Star Letter Orb showcase! I was browsing through some back issues when I spotted myself in a photo taken at the showcase held in Leeds earlier this year. There appears to be an orb floating next to me. I realise that this may be a flaw caused during the printing process, so it would be interesting to see if it on the original photo. Ghost Hunt for Children in Need Children in Need is the latest charity to benefit from the spare pennies of ghost hunters, when Derby Paranormal Hunters bagged the amazing Elvaston Castle for their phenomenally successful event. A total of £11,521 was raised, helped along by a number of celebrities, including Phil Whyman (Most Haunted) and Mark Webb (Haunted Homes). They take on criminal cases forgotten by the police and press, and attempt to contact the dead victims for clues. At the heart of each one-hour episode is a detective story, with families searching for answers to the untimely deaths of their loved ones. Says Colin Fry: “The people we’re reading for have already had the worst happen to them. editation was always very difficult for me and with a young family to care for, it was rare I even got the chance. Later, I joined a group run by the spiritualist church and discovered I could meditate pretty well. I could go very deep, very quickly, and occasionally I would go so deep I would have to be quite forcefully commanded to ‘return to the room’. My favourite experience from this time was a guided meditation, drifting up on a cloud until the cloud stopped at a cloud landscape, then we were guided to go forwards and into this landscape. I remember sailing through these clouds on my own cloud and all around me were Spirits. I couldn’t see them, but I could feel them, they seemed as excited as me that I was amongst them, I was euphoric and laughing. Far too soon, I could hear a dim voice in the distance requesting my return, but I just didn’t want to leave. I was eventually made to return to the room, still laughing and on a high. Meditation is a
key part of spiritual work, but can be extremely difficult. I think I was only meant to be in that group to learn to meditate properly as shortly after the above experience I began to feel really out of sorts, which had nothing to do with the group, so I left. You may attend many groups before you find the one that is right for you, but if you only learn one thing from each, it’s still worthwhile. As for meditation, please stick at it, try different methods and music, if you can’t clear or still your mind (virtually impossible) visualise pushing your everyday thoughts to the back of your mind. I find this works quite well. I’ve also learned from my experiences that when you set up a routine to meditate regularly, you are making a series of appointments with Spirit. If you don’t bother to keep these ‘appointments’ why should they? Above all, enjoy your meditations. Peace always,
Jay

Would you like to deepen a friendship? Make someone sweeter towards you with this spell. Choose your words carefully, and don’t forget to add ‘An it harm none’!
Sweeten with honey spell You will need: Some honey Some clean paper A red pen A pink candle 1. Take your paper and write your friend’s full name across it. 2. Turn it around once and write your own name right through your friend’s name. 3. Write “Let friendship deepen”and repeat right around the edge of the paper. 4. Fold the paper in half and keep folding until small. Dip in the honey. 6. Burn the candle and visualise what you want happening right now. 7. Bury the paper in the earth and allow the candle to safely burn down.
In previous issues of Vision, we have covered the magical sounds of singing bowls. Popular in many ancient Asian spiritualities (particularly Tibetan), they can be used to improve the self in a number of ways. Meditation is, in itself, a healing practice and the singing bowl is perfect for this as it is said that it produces the sacred sound of ‘Aum’. The bowl is also a great way to start and end a healing session as it makes concentration more effective. Your bowl can be used during healing, too. How to use your bowl: Strike the wooden mallet against the bowl to create a lingering resonance. Another method it to rub the mallet around the outside of the top ridge of the bowl. Increase the movement while the bowl begins to vibrate. A third method is to combine the two: strike the mallet against the bowl and then rub the mallet around the top edge to keep the vibration going and purify the note. Want a singing bowl? Would you like to have a baby? Although the obvious means of conception cannot be shortcut, there are magical ways that you can enhance your chances, including crystals. Both moonstone and rose quartz connect strongly with love and the feminine and, combined, they can work very well to increase fertility. An ancient spell actually suggests that you put a small piece of each in a used nappy (yuk!) and wear it yourself. We suggest that you charge each piece of crystal and carry them together, as well as put them under the mattress at night, it’s much nicer!

In our Feng Shui Luck article (P36) you can read about how to enhance your work area. Did you know, though, that many people think that working with computers can create negativity and some say they emit harmful rays? Whether this is true or not we are not sure – but we do know the cure for negativity! Apart from positive thinking and a bright aura, you can also get some help from crystals. Get a small piece of quartz (rock crystal) and cleanse it as usual. Charge it by saying: “Deva of quartz, protect my PC, Keep me happy and worry free! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!” Then put it near your PC. You can also use hematite in conjunction with quartz as hematite reflects negativity. All Vision staff have a crystal by their computers!
Gardening can be a positive thing to do, with that fresh air and sun as well as getting close to nature. However, you can do even more with your garden by planting wisely to encourage well-being. The Three-Legged Money toad is not really traditionally Chinese, contrary to popular belief. However, you can use him to attract money. To get your toad going, put him inside your home, facing towards the front door. Every morning, place the coin in his mouth to draw prosperity towards you. Every evening remove the coin and turn him inwards, so he doesn’t get worn out! If you want to go the whole hog (or toad!) get nine toads and place them all in your lounge facing different compass directions, as well as the one by your door. iane Lazarus has been a working medium for years, but it was the hit Channel 5 show Britain’s Psychic Challenge that really brought Diane to the public’s attention. We spoke to Diane about fame and her gifts. How did you first discover you had psychic gifts? “From the age of four, I was always talking to Spirits! One spirit in particular would always come at night. I called him ‘The Line Man’, because he had such a lined face. He completely petrified me! I would wake up screaming when I’d heard him. My mum thought I was ill and the doctors thought I had fluid on the brain! I scared my sister, too. We had bunks in the same bedroom: I’d be in the top bunk and she’d be below. I would tell her that The Line Man was with me and she would say I was just trying to scare her. “When I got older I used to play games with the Line Man to test him. One day I asked him what I would wear the next day. My mother always chose my clothes and laid them out on the bed. My favourite item of clothing was an expensive navy dress which I had worn so often it was coming apart at the seams. When The Line Man told me I’d be wearing a navy dress, I thought he was wrong as it was in bits. In fact, I was wrong, as the next day my mother said we would be going out and presented me with my navy 8 Vision 23

Britain’s Psychic Challenge? “My daughter saw the programme on the internet and she applied on my behalf. She’s had a taste of fame herself when she was second in Miss Wales and 12th in Miss Great Britain. “I had already been on Granada Breeze with Derek Acorah and I’d had some success . “When I was auditioning for Britain’s Psychic Challenge I was very blasé. I had always wondered how I can do what I do and I was willing to challenge my ability. I don’t normally eat before I am going to do psychic work, but this time I had a big roll on the way. Then when I was told what I would have to do, I was really struggling. “I was required to read jewellery (psychometry) and I ended up reading for the MD. Using the jewellery, I went inside his house psychically and walked around it. Apparently he was shocked at what I picked up. Later, when I was leaving, I turned around to the producer and said ‘I’ll see you next time in a car park’ – and wondered why I said it! True enough, I next saw him in a car park – when we were trying to find the ‘body in the boot’ which was part of the show!” Do you think that the programme was fair towards mediums? “On the whole, yes. However, I thought some of the tests were ridiculous. If you have to read an envelope and three people have held the envelope, it is really

The Time: A freezing cold December night The Place: The Tower of London The Visionaries: Nance Turner-Collings, Dean Ballance, Diana Jarvis

H
ello my friends and welcome to this special vigil! This month we are at the fabulous Tower of London! Yes, I know, they actually let us in and (shockingly) out again ‌ but what a time we had! I like to think that us Visionaries are a humble lot and always grateful for help (from the living and the dead!). But just this once, I would like to be a bit smug, too. The Tower of London was a top 5 location on our wish list and knowing that you guys are able to almost be there with us is what we are about. So once again: sit back, put up your feet, grab your brew and read on. The tower is an imposing place and if you have ever been, you will know that it has a unique atmosphere. So imagine, if you will, what it is like in the dark (well not all dark, there were some lights on in the grounds) and to feel the hundreds of years of history that survives within its walls? Amazing! I hope you feel the same way as you follow us around... Nance Turner-Collings

drinking and laughing (no change there in a couple of centuries!). When I went downstairs I felt almost sick, and had such a bad pain in the left side of my neck - it really hurt! Next up was Di, (who bless her, was on top form) who tuned in to a man with his left leg amputated from mid thigh down – but had a wooden leg replacement! He wasn’t used to it and Di said it felt odd. He used to carry bags of some type of food, but his leg meant that he couldn’t any more. She also picked up on the name Richard Blakeney or Blakeby and felt that he was important. As she was stood in the tower, she could hear the sound of air raid sirens and picked up a strong connection to the blitz, she could see the sky lit up with searchlights, and saw a man with a tin helmet riding a bike with a white strip of leather across his long black coat. As she walked downstairs she had a strong smell of lavender, and picked up the name Thomas, and felt that he was a traitor, and also that he might have had his head chopped off, as she developed a bad headache! What was odd though, was that as we were taking pictures, a man exclaimed in Di’s ear “What manner of witchcraft is this!” It seems that some Spirits are still stuck in the past - check out the purple mist behind Di in the picture on the left! Dean is one brave soul! Off he went on his own into the tower, and immediately saw a female figure looking out of the window, wearing Above: Di dowsing with purple mist following - it’s behind you! an all black dress. He
The Salt Tower First of all we found ourselves in The Salt Tower. It is a forbidding place (well they all are, but I’m trying to get some atmosphere going here!) and on entering we all split up and went off separately to tune in. The first thing I picked up was the surname Percival and the name Charlotte. I did get a strong link to Charles 1, and saw men in blue uniforms and picked up the 1700s. As I looked outside the tower, I could see men fighting outside in the grounds, but as in training, not a battle, and near them I could see men lounging around inside
Traitor’s Gate / The Bloody Tower Walking out of the tower, we were then taken to Traitor’s Gate and The Bloody Tower. It was a very cold night, and standing next to Traitor’s Gate, you almost feel like you have done something wrong, (like when you see a nun and feel guilty?). You get a shudder run through you when you stand by the side of the gate, and feel the place starting to creep up on you, just like Sir Walter Raleigh, who wouldn’t seem to leave me alone! He seemed a sad and angry man, muttering to himself that “I was not supposed to be here, it was wrong”. I felt
Above: Nance with orb ... too close for comfort?
that he had some unfinished business and he needed to lay some demons to rest. As I was looking at the Bloody Tower I suddenly tuned in to the gunpowder plot! I could also see gangs of prisoners chained in long rows walking off a boat, and walking up through the gates. Some were battered and bruised before they got here, but some were respected and treated with less brutality. All were terrified. I also picked up lots of animals! I felt that the Tower was a prime target in the battle of Britain, and felt a strong connection to William the Conqueror. As you walk to the left of the gate there is a doorway, where you would probably feel like we did – like you were standing in jelly! It was 11 Vision 23
worse than that for me though - I felt that I should have been facing the door, as someone was being flogged! Dean felt the same at the door, he sensed that there would have
to prove his innocence for a crime he said he didn’t commit (don’t they all), and he could see the exit out, but was stuck. From Traitor’s Gate, we walked under the Bloody Tower. Tucked away in the corner is the entrance. Now if ever there was an apt name for a building, the Bloody Tower is the one that has it! I challenge anyone to stand in the doorway and look me in the eyes and tell me they don’t know why it’s called The Bloody Tower! The feeling is horrendous, like Di said, it’s all the nasty emotions, all the horrible torture all rolled into one and the smell! I dare you to visit!
The Scaffold and the White Tower After the unsettling feeling that we felt at the Tower, we were Above: Caron and Di investigating the Salt Tower (thankfully) taken up been a Dungeon behind the door – where the steps towards the Scaffold Site and The White Tower. Walking up the steps, they kept the prisoners. He said that he in the semi-darkness and the cold wind could see someone throwing dead bodies blowing, the White Tower is an down there, but he couldn’t tell if they impressive building. She felt dizzy, sick, and got a glory … no such ‘luck’ I’m afraid. As I headache, she said that it was a heavy walked round the site I started to get pressure around her head, and picked up confused (oh nothing new there then) as a slightly disfigured man. The man made I felt that the scaffold wasn’t there it clear that he didn’t want her to go, and originally, it was like it had been moved was sad and lonely, but he said that “it there later on. Walking down to the wasn’t him”. Di felt that this man wanted

White Tower, I saw a tiger! Following us slowly, it was huge and scary looking! I was so glad it was only in Spirit. As Dean stood on the grassed area around the Scaffold site, he could feel that there was a burial ground here, he was sure it was only the people that lived here that got buried here, though. Standing in the entrance to the Tower, he felt a real sense of fear. Now Dean is a man’s man and nothing phases him: but even he had to admit that the feeling was quite intense! He could see that this was where the guards lived, and could see the dirty cells where prisoners were held. As Di was stood at the top of the stairs, she saw a figure in a black cloak rushing past , he stopped, turned in front of the Bloody Tower and disappeared (no not in a puff of smoke, how dramatic do you think we are?). Di could feel a Guy Fawkes’ connection, and she could see someone being tortured on the rack, though luckily couldn’t feel it. The Casemates
Above: View towards the Salt Tower
As we finished our walk, we were taken down past the Casemates (the private houses of the Yeoman Warders – the Beefeaters). Di picked up a fire in the area, and could sense a strong connection to dogs. I, however, was just thinking of getting a nice brew, but I did pick up a connection to woodworks, ironworks and coal. After our hot drink and managing to warm up while listening to the wind outside, we started to work on Caron’s home in the Bastion Casemates: an impressive row of houses set in the grounds of the Tower. We kept getting freaked (yes it does happen) because Caron’s windows were opening by themselves. Probably the wind but …. maybe not?
Above: Site of the Scaffold
Although I didn’t pick up much in the house, I could see men lowering things on pulleys and had a conversation with a spirit called Thomas Mitchell. He was cheeky, aged about 20/21, blonde hair, a few teeth missing and a lisp. He told me that he was not good enough to be a guard, so he buffed shoes. He said the year 1296 was important. His parting words to me were “By God, does some of ‘em squeal!”.... Dean heard a young boy laughing as he went into one of the bedrooms. He suddenly felt very cold and could see a boy called Robert (who was about 15) in 15th century clothing. Later on he picked up a little girl, with a scruffy, mucky face. She was wearing a short grey dress and had straggly brown
hair and was aged about 8. Dean then became aware of an older female presence. She said that she looks after the girl, but that she isn’t her mother. Then she showed Dean a bunch of flowers. Di said the atmosphere was like being trapped in a time wrap, and sensed some sort of leyline. When we went round with the dowsing rods, we did pick up energy crossing through the house, and it was always in the same place. Though the house was quiet, Di heard people running and shouting, and felt something really drastic happened, and could sense a lot of damage. She could also see men lowering things on pulleys. It was sad when the night came to an

end, there is so much more to be unearthed at the Tower! Hopefully one day we can go back. We would like to say a big thank you to Caron Sanders-Crook, who made the visit possible, and for her kind hospitality. Next month we will be at Naturally Gifted in Lincoln.

History of The Tower of London There is so much history attached to the Tower of London! Here’s a breakdown of what the Visionaries linked in with. Sir Walter Raleigh Sir Walter Raleigh was picked up by Nance and Di. He was a frequent ‘visitor’ to the Tower. He was held at the Tower in 1604, 1616 and finally executed in 1618. It is likely he was innocent of the charges brought against him, as he kept saying! The Tower Garrison / Salt Tower Nance saw men fighting and training. The Tower was a Garrison from the 13th to 20th Century. The comment “By God does some of ‘em squeal” from Thomas Mitchell is likely to refer to a pig farm which was part of the Tower Garrison! Di’s lavender smell in the Salt Tower, probably comes from the Tower’s Herb garden which used to be nearby. When Dean picked up the name Francis in the Salt Tower he was connecting to Francis Arden, who had helped a priest to escape there. He was also right that prisoners were kept in the Salt Tower. Guy Fawkes Guy Fawkes was brought into the Tower by Traitor’s Gate and was held nearby.
The Royal Menagerie Nance’s tiger was probably part of The Royal Menagerie that was kept in the Tower until 1835, when it was finally moved to Regent’s Park and was the first beginnings of London Zoo! Scaffold Site Nance was right that the scaffold site was not necessarily where people were beheaded. Some were executed at Trinity Gardens, across the road. Dean was convinced about bodies under the scaffold site and he was correct, there are lots of people buried there. Casemates Nance’s significant date of 1296 was the date of the Battle of Dunbar, whose many prisoners of war were held at the Tower. Di’s fire could have been one of many at the Tower, and there were also dogs which were housed near the front gate. Di’s tunnels are also real, as is her tug boat full of fish. Billingsgate Fish market is right next door to the tower, towards London Bridge. Both Nance and Di independently picked up men lowering things on pulleys and ropes. This would have been a common occurrance when ammunition would have been moved in
the area, which became known as Gun Alley. Dean’s female Spirit in the Casemates with her basket of flowers is significant: there were flower sellers that lived at the tower. Second World War The Tower of London and the whole of London were targets during the Battle of Britain. Di’s air raid sirens were in the Tower itself during the Blitz and Di’s fire and collapse of a building links with a successful bombing there. William the Conqueror When Dean picked up a French invasion he was linking with the Tower as it is French-Norman and built after the Battle of Hastings and the French invasion! Nance was right about William the Conqueror too, he actually built the Tower, although then he was known as William I. ision are lucku enough to frequently have the opportunity to attend spiritual and paranormal events all over the UK. However, it’s not often that we get the chance to attend an event such as Parafest! Parafest is the brainchild of David and Fran Wharmby (plus their spirit guide, Breen). The event aims to bring together people from all over the country with an interest in the paranormal, in order to meet, greet, learn and grow. Not only that, but the attendees are also be given the opportunity to come to Parafest and experience a live ghost investigation and also work for a ‘higher purpose’ … that of helping pass over as many lost souls and trapped Spirits as possible. Vision were the only magazine officially reporting at Parafest. Represented by The Visionaries, Vision arrived at Chilford Hall in some glorious Cambridgeshire countryside, keen to get started and to meet as many people (both living and dead) as possible. 14 Vision 23
The evening kicked off with a welcome talk by Phil Whyman (Scream Team, Most Haunted), who also acted as Master of Ceremonies. After an introduction to the event by David Wharmby, there was a demonstration of mediumship and a fascinating insight into the art of transfiguration. For those of you that haven’t seen this remarkable ‘skill’, it involves the face of loved ones in Spirit appearing over the medium transfiguring, looking much like holograms. There were many Spirits that were recognised and there were a few people in the audience that couldn’t hold back the tears when their loved ones came through …
After the demonstrations, Diana Jarvis (Vision Editor and Visionary) gave a talk about the paranormal which prompted some really thought-provoking questioning from a paranormallyexperienced audience. Then it was time for the highlight of the evening – the investigation of the ghosts of Chilford Hall. As you will have seen from last month’s Vision, the Visionaries had a very interesting investigation with a lot of Spirit contact, but also discovered that many Spirits were waiting for the main séance the following night, in order to pass on. There were many members of the public within other teams on their own investigations, and we could tell from the noise they made that they were having really genuine experiences too! The Spirits at Chilford certainly made the evening go with a bump! The next day there was a very full programme, including the opening of the trade hall. Vision were delighted to have a stand at Parafest and were even more delighted to meet many readers and talk to the public in general. The hall was buzzing with atmosphere and was an exciting place to be. Spiritual ConneXtions radio were also at the event and Diana (whose own show is broadcast on Spiritual ConneXtions every Wednesday) was interviewed for their

Before the big event (the En Masse Passing Over), some superb contributors to the paranormal field were recognised for their achievements. Phil Whyman and Diana Jarvis presented awards to ‘The Best Paranormal Website’; ‘The best EVP’ and ‘The best paranormal photograph’, as judged by Parafest and Vision. It was felt that these people were contributing in a major way to raising awareness of the paranormal genre; and that they both helped and informed the public about what is really going on ‘out there’. Then David Wharmby explained the background and motivation for the En Masse Passing Over, and how his

All the family were catered for at Parafest, which makes a refreshing change, as most events tend to forget that adults have families! For the children, there was a fun fair, as well as a really unusual musical organ that did the most ‘interesting’ rendition of In the Navy! Parafest also offered plenty for the paranormal enthusiast – enabling them to meet like-minded people and make friends; get ‘hands-on’ in a real investigation; see demonstrations and talks; buy gifts and paranormal gadgets and watch some truly talented people … all this and the opportunity to show compassion for those trapped as Spirits and help them to pass over to the Other
“The paranormal investigation of Chilford Hall was my favourite part of the event, and I'm happy to report that quite a few of those taking part experienced something that they would class as being paranormal in origin.” Phil Whyman Spirit Guide had led him towards the event that was now taking place. After Dave’s talk, 12 trance mediums were seated in an inner circle and the rest of the attendees made up a large outer circle. There was then a meditation where everyone attempted to contact and help Vision with Spiritual ConneXtions Radio and orb! pass over as many spirits as possible. demonstration of Native American It was an extremely uplifting experience, dancing was really worth watching, the and very few eyes were dry by the end of beautiful music played by the string the evening. quartet (Oreos) was both uplifting and To sum up – Parafest was really inspiring and the demonstrations and unique. We met some truly amazing talks were well-attended and successful. people, including Jim - ‘The Candyman’

t sounds too incredible to believe that the earth we stand on is not what we know or imagine it is! At school we are taught that the Earth is a solid object with a molten core. Within the framework of the Hollow Earth Theory, however, the Earth is not solid at all! Allegedly, there are races that exist in subterranean cities beneath planet Earth and very often, these dwellers of the world beneath are more technologically advanced than we are on the surface. Many people believe that UFOs are not just from other planets, but are manufactured by strange beings in the interior of the Earth, too. Let us begin with some interesting history on the Hollow earth theory: …
Who believes in a Hollow Earth? Since the scientific revolution, a small number of notable scientists have proposed the possibility of a Hollow Earth. One of the first was the famous English astronomer and mathematician, Sir Edmond Halley (1656-1742). He held that the earth had an outer crust, 500 miles thick, and a hollow interior containing three smaller spheres, one within the other, approximately the size of Venus, Mars, and Mercury; each sphere being separated from the next by 500 miles of atmosphere. The smallest sphere was thought to form a hot, solid core. Halley speculated that the inner spheres might be inhabited, and that light might be produced in a number of ways: the atmosphere might be luminous, or the inner sides of the spheres might emit light, or there might be small suns within the earth. Halley’s theory of concentric spheres largely stemmed from his efforts to explain why the earth’s magnetic poles 16 Vision 23
Clint Denyer introduces us to the ‘Hollow Earth’ theory – an amazing belief system that suggests aliens are living within the earth right now! appeared to be wandering. He believed that each sphere had its own set of magnetic poles, and that the outer sphere moved slightly faster than the rest, causing magnetic variations. Halley presented his theory to the Royal Society in 1692; it attracted a great deal of attention and was reprinted several times, though not many scientists took it seriously. Leonhard Euler (1707-1783), the noted Swiss mathematician and physicist, also speculated about a Hollow Earth. In 1767 he proposed that the Earth’s hollow interior contained, at its centre, a small glowing core which served as a miniature sun for the inner world’s hypothetical inhabitants. Sir John Leslie (1766-1832), a Scottish physicist and mathematician, proposed that the earth had a hollow interior containing two suns, Pluto and Proserpine [3]. Jules Verne’s classic tale Journey to the Centre of the Earth (1864) was partly inspired by Leslie’s ideas. A name often mentioned in connection with the hollow-earth theory usually in order to ridicule it - is Captain John Cleves Symmes (1779-1829). He believed that the earth’s interior was hollow, containing another four hollow, concentric spheres, with space between each, and habitable on both their concave
and convex surfaces. He held that all celestial bodies had a similar structure. He estimated that the earth’s outer shell was 1000 miles thick. Unlike Halley, he believed that there were enormous holes at the poles: 4000 miles across (12°) at the north, and 6000 miles (16°) across at the south. The most outlandish theory, however, came also in the late 1800’s, Cyrus Teed stated that rather than the outside, we in fact live on the inside of the planet, and in the centre hovers the sun. One side dark, the other light. As it spins, it gives an appearance of sunrise and sunset.
Journey to the centre of the Earth And now for someone that actually went to the Hollow Earth! Admiral Richard E. Byrd, of the United States Navy, flew to the North Pole in 1926 and over the South Pole in 1929. In his diary, he tells of entering the hollow interior of the Earth, along with others. He says he travelled 17 miles over mountains, lakes, rivers, green vegetation, and animal life. He tells of seeing tremendous animals - resembling the mammoths of antiquity – moving through the brush. He eventually found cities and a thriving
How do ‘they’ get out of the Hollow Earth? What I find most interesting about the Hollow Earth theory is that for the past 50 years, the North and South poles have become ‘no fly zones’. Apart from the Poles, some other places where there are alleged to be entry points are:
civilization. The external temperature was 74oF! His airplane was greeted by flying machines of a type he had never seen before. They escorted him to a safe landing area, where he was graciously greeted by emissaries from Agartha. After resting, he and his crew were taken to meet the King and Queen of Agartha. They told him that he had been allowed to enter Agartha because of his high moral and ethical character. They went on to say that they worried about the safety of planet, due to the bombs and other testing done above the surface by governments. After the visit, Byrd and his crew were guided back to the surface of the planet. In January of 1956 Admiral Byrd led an expedition to the South Pole. On that expedition he and his crew penetrated down 2,300 miles into the centre of the earth. Admiral Byrd stated that the North and South Poles are only two of many openings into the centre of the Earth. He wrote about seeing a sun below the Earth, too. Admiral Byrd did manage to write about his journeys to the Hollow Earth in the “Secret Diaries of Admiral Byrd” of which there are still copies around in Libraries and second hand bookshops.
Manaus and Mato Grosso, Brazil Igua Falls, border of Brazil/ Argentina Mount Epomeo, Italy Himalayan Mountains, Tibet Mongolia Rama, India Great Pyramid of Giza King Solomon’s Mines Mount Shasta, California - the Agharthean city of Telos allegedly exists within and beneath this mountain
How Nature supports the Hollow Earth Theory: All planets are hollow, with central suns Everything in nature is hollow: geodes, stones, plants, bones The weather gets warmer the closer you get to the North Pole Dust at the North Pole causes the snow to go black Dust from the Artic has been tested and found to be composed of carbon and iron, like in volcanoes … but there are no volcanoes in the Artic Coloured snow has been analysed and found to contain vegetable matter, blossom, and pollen from the inner earth If no rivers exist in an inner earth, why are icebergs composed of fresh water? Magnetic compasses and gyro compasses do not work over the whole of the Artic area - we have to wonder why?
In fact, all ancient civilizations knew of the Hollow Earth via knowledge passed down by elders and teachers: from the Native American Indians to the monks of Tibet! They all knew that worlds existed within our Earth and that instead of the earth being a solid sphere, it is a doughnut shape with dimensional vortex worlds within. We can see by the monuments and sacred areas left on earth that these civilizations knew that the world they lived upon is completely different to the way we view it today. It is also said that the Eskimo and Aborigine were originally inner Earth people. Whatever your view is on a Hollow Earth, it is opening a can of worms to think about it! We would need to look at our world with a different perspective, which can be difficult, but maybe it is time to do so. There is now a growing tide of thought that the Earth has many secrets, that are only just unfolding. As for a Hollow Earth, watch this space … 17 Vision 23
David Wharmby visits the saloons and hotels of the Wild West to find out why they are really called ‘ghost towns’ …
Gold Hill Hotel and Saloon, Virginia City
A
s the sun reached its zenith at ‘High Noon’ and the streets looked deserted, the two lonesome gunslingers prepared to face one another in a duel to the death … Well, that’s how it always seems to appear in the movies we see on television! However, although many a shoot-out did occur in the days of the old Wild West, there was a lot less drama and a lot more
18 Vision 23
ruthlessness involved than we see on the silver screen. My name is David Wharmby and I am an International Paranormal Researcher (Ghost Hunter). On a recent trip to the old Wild West I was able to see first-hand where ghosts still roam as free today as perhaps they once did so long ago. My trip took me to two of the old towns of the West. The first was Virginia City (made famous by the popular TV series of the 60s and 70s Bonanza). Although it is called a city, it
really is only one long street, which was the bustling hub of a Gold Mining town. The street is a real eclectic mix of buildings: bars, hotels, casinos, bordellos, a theatre, a school-house and a jail house are all squashed together with grocery and livery stores and small homes. There was also a very big cemetery, known locally as Boot Hill. When I first arrived in Virginia City, I went straight to Gold Hill Hotel and Saloon, reputed to be haunted by a saloon girl who had been murdered by
one of the prospectors in an upper rooms. Her apparition has been seen many times on the upper levels and in the bar area, as has a man dressed in a long dark coat. There are echoes of music and laughter that are often heard throughout the building in the winter months, but one room stands out as a

very sinister place! Many people have claimed to have witnessed the replay of the fateful night this young woman was strangled to death by a figure in black – and the sightings are still coming in! Virginia City was also famous for author and newspaper writer Mark Twain, who was educated in the old school house. You can still visit the old newspaper office and printing house where Twain worked. The printers is alleged to house his Spirit, which has been seen by many a visitor. Those prospectors fortunate enough to strike it rich, were often allowed prestige entrance to a more refined Hotel. This was the Millionaires Club of the Washoe. Even here in such a refined location, death was close at hand and so are the Spirits of those who met it quickly. Other Saloons were not so refined, and many shootouts and murders took place over a card table. One such saloon was called the Bucket of Blood, which houses a famous table known as the suicide table. However, many of
the townsfolk preferred a different form of entertainment and went to Pipers Opera House. Even this was tarnished with an unsavoury owner, known (not surprisingly) as Mr Piper. The arguments, trouble and murder here were the result of his opera house being burned to the ground twice before it stood as it now still stands. Of all the locations I visited on my trip, this proved
Mark Twain’s old school
to be the most active of them all. Not only is it haunted by Mr. Piper himself, but several dancing girls’ Spirits are there too. Apparently they had died in one of the fires. Two prospectors still haunt the building too, and make a nuisance of themselves, as they always did! Beneath the foundations of the Opera House was once a deep storeroom in which many a body was allegedly hurled. A recent University excavation of the cellar area did indeed reveal many skeletons, so perhaps the legends are true, after all! The whole location was alive and active with the ghosts of this bygone area, as you can see from the accompanying pictures! The next mining town I was able to visit, was a location known as Old Auburn. This was a real old prospectors’ location. Although the name may seem unfamiliar to many, this was the location where John Travolta filmed Phenomena. This quaint little town still houses many of its original features and one location, (now an antique shop, but once a tea room) is, according to its owners, still very alive with a former spirit of its past. A woman dressed in what could only be described as a tea maid uniform is still very often seen. Many a morning upon opening the shop, the owners find objects have been rearranged and they have smelt hot food and coffee when no-one is around. However, they don’t mind her presence, they say she is a loving part of the fixtures and fittings. My trip to the USA was not long enough by far, for me. There are many locations still untouched by Paranormal Researchers, whom I’m sure will one day bring us proof positive of the existence of Spirits of the Past. 19 Vision 23

Music Box Mystery I got a little cottage musical box recently from a car boot fair. I left it for some time and forgot it. Then one day I went into the room and noticed it had cracked across the roof, so I was going to throw it away. Imagine my surprise when it started playing “When Irish Eyes are Smiling”! I listened until it wound down, but then, as I got up to leave, it started again! This has happened a few times. What do you think? Janet Worthington, Doncaster Diana says: Obviously we have to look at the possibility that it is just old and there could be some fault or rational explanation – maybe someone was winding it up and hadn’t told you? If you are sure that the mechanism is ok and can’t be doing this itself and you are also sure that no-one is winding it, then perhaps there is another reason. It is said that spirits use any kind of energy they can to get messages across, although clockwork is a new one to me! However, if they are trying to get a message through to you, it seems quite clear that they want you to know that they are watching over you and smiling!
Artistic Orbs I am an artist and while photographing my work, I noticed lots of orbs appearing. I have been keeping an orb diary for the last eight weeks, every day they come, mostly they seem drawn to my work and my bed. I paint astral dreaming and moon pictures seem to be the best for drawing them down. They seem to mimic my moons, sometimes adding more to my work. Amanda Joy Pardoe, Stourbridge

Dream Angel Messages I had a really strange dream recently that has made a deep impression on me. I was in a very dark and empty place. A tall hooded figure comes over to me. He opens a door and I am greeted by an angel. We walk along a corridor and finally stop in front of a door. I open the door and I’m on a dark and blowy heath. I see a small girl sat by a fire, about 15 or 16. She is crying. Then another woman appears, they have a short conversation and the older woman gives the girl a small packet. The girl opens the packet, which contains some powdery stuff, which she tips into her hand and eats. Almost immediately she starts vomiting. Then the angel is back. He says: ‘She is not you’ and ‘She has to go now’. When I turn back to the girl, she is obviously dead. Penny Aston, Berkshire Diana says: I get an impression with this dream that there is more to it than meets the eye and a whole layer that I’m missing. I’d strongly suggest you check every dream directory you can find, but I’m still not sure that ‘the answer’ will be there – probably more likely found in a meditation alone. However, I can give you one layer of an answer … I believe that the Angel is your higher self, showing you a version of yourself in symbolic terms (the girl). The statement ‘She is not you’ refers to the need to rid yourself of a younger self that took a whole host of problems and swallowed them, so much so that it made her sick and killed a small part of her emotions. The Angel tells you that it is time to move on and allow the child to be reborn: as an adult that doesn’t take any of that sort of poisonous rubbish any more! Look at your past and see what is still hurting you that you can look at and deal with once and for all. The time to do so is now.
Diana says: I have to say that in my experience, when there are this many orbs there is usually a rational explanation. The commonest for this type of display is moisture. Is there any source of moisture in the air of your room? The orb next to you is quite something, although I can never give positive proof of either a logical or spiritual reason for orbs without having complex software and more knowledge of the picture. I do know that if you can count out moisture or other rational
explanations, Spirit are certainly drawn to your work as they are any spiritual pursuits. Your style of art would certainly appeal to them…
If you would like to share your experiences, send them to Diana Jarvis at the Vision address or email: experiencesexplained@visionmagazine.uk.com Please give as many details as possible: tell us what you saw, how you felt, and what you sensed etc. The most interesting letter (with or without picture) will win a Haunting Break. Carole Chui looks at the elements that are recognised in the Chinese spiritual tradition. Find your element and learn out more about yourself!
I
n the West we have a tradition of four elements, Earth, Water, Fire and Air, whose origins date as far back as Aristotle. A fifth, Ether (or Spirit) is added in esoteric circles to complete the system. China has a different system of five elements. The Chinese Elements are Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. Metal is sometimes translated as Gold, but the generalised term, Metal, is better and more accurate in my opinion. The Chinese elements are not building blocks, but forces, and they have a relationship with each other and interact in certain ways that explain this relationship. Each element also has a colour that is associated with it. Water is black, or dark blue. Wood is green. Fire is Red. Earth is yellow. Metal is white.
Elements working together There are 2 cycles with the elements: the creative cycle and the controlling cycle.
1. Look at our Chinese Astrology chart on P58, where you can find out your Chinese ‘Animal’ as well as the Chinese Year in which you were born.
Example
The Creative Cycle Each Element is necessary to create balance. If we put the elements in a circle clockwise, Water creates Wood. Wood is about growing things, trees and flowers, and the connection is obvious, as water is needed for living things to grow. Wood then feeds Fire. Fire then creates Earth (the ash left behind) and Earth creates Metal (ores are found in the Earth). Closing the circle, Metal then creates Water. Many theories suggest the condensation on a cold metal jug is where this connection comes from, but springs often emerge from mineral deposits, coloured by metal and I think this connection makes more sense.
1. A person was born on 3rd February 1972.
2. When you have found your year, look at when that particular ‘Chinese Year’ begins. It may be the same year that you were born in, or the year before. Don’t go back to the beginning of the chart, though!
2. The Chinese year they were born in started on 27th January 1971 (and ran until 15th February 1972), and their sign is the pig.
3. Then take the last digit of the year in which your Chinese Year began.
4. Their number would be 1 and their element would be Metal. (see next).
22 Vision 23
3. Their Chinese Year began in 1971.
The Controlling Cycle For the controlling series, we note that each element controls the element next but one along the circle. Draw these connections and you get a five-pointed star or pentagram (see diagram opposite). Water controls Fire. (it can quench the flames) Fire controls Metal (as in smelting), Metal controls Wood (it chops it down), Wood controls Earth (a wooden spade would dig it) and Earth controls Water (it turns it into mud, or dams it up). The Elements go through the Chinese years in the creative cycle, and your element modifies your animal and will affect your characteristics, so for a fuller picture of how you fare in Chinese Astrology, it is useful to know both your animal and your element.
Your number and the elements Metal Water Wood Fire Earth
0 and 1 2 and 3 4 and 5 6 and 7 8 and 9
Now you know your element. And if you know your partner’s element, you know who controls whom and who nurtures whom! You also know which years will suit you more than others.
2007 is a Fire year, and as well as Fire people, Earth people find it congenial. Metal people will have to go with the flow (which they don’t do well) or find themselves thwarted. Water people will
feel in control. Wood people will be working hard (feeding the flames). Your Zodiac animal characteristics are modified by the element of the year you were born.
Wood People
Animals do have their own element, but there is no agreement on what it is. It is there in their nature, and the year element modifies the character.
Fire People
Wood people are ruled by the Wood Star (Jupiter), and have a strong moral sense and are compassionate and honest. They like to branch out – but may overextend.
Fire people are ruled by the Fire Star (Mars). They are excitable, enthusiastic and intuitive. They are born leaders, and need their energies channelled if they are not to become destructive.
Water People
Earth People
Water people are ruled by the Water Star (Mercury) and are communicative, creative, prefer to infiltrate and not dominate, and can be passive.
Earth people are ruled by the Earth Star (Saturn) and are planners: solid, reliable and hard working. They can be plodders, though.
Metal People Metal people are ruled by the Metal Star (Venus) and are drawn to money and war (both metal-dominated matters). They can be harsh and domineering. They are fine instruments, but can break if they do not maintain flexibility.

Carole Chui introduces us to the three protective gods of China – Health, Wealth and Happiness!
T
o understand many Chinese good luck items involving gods and spirits, we have to look at the spiritual background of the Chinese. Fortunately, the old traditions were kept alive in Hong Kong, Tai Wan, and a multitude of Chinatowns in western cities throughout the cultural revolution, keeping continuity. The roots of spirituality in China are tangled. In very early days, there were nature gods and animal spirits, and from those early times the veneration of ancestors marked a typically Chinese approach to spiritual matters, but as the years went by, 3 major beliefs appeared in China: Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism.
Ancient Chinese Beliefs Kong Fu Zi, born in the 6th century BC, was Latinized into Confucius for the West and is in essence about respect – for ancestors, social order and one another. At much the same time Daoism, based on the writing of Lao Zi also gathered followers. “Dao” means simply road or way, and brings the concept of going with the flow and not against it. The 3rd great spirituality was not native, but soon became acclimatised. From the 1st century AD, Buddhism came to China along the Silk Road, and achieved a dominant position from the 4th to the 7th centuries. Chinese Buddhism, however, is very different from the Indian original and in its popular form, is mixed with a lot of ancient Chinese traditions and the other two main religions to produce a multitude of Chinese gods, spirits and helpers.
Hero God of China On first arriving at Kai Tak airport, Hong Kong, in 1981, I noticed an open door with ‘airport police’ over it. I peered inside, and saw on the wall an altar on a shelf with an ornate frame around it … and inside it the figure of a god (somewhat obscured by tangerines and the smoke of joss sticks). I inquired about it later and learned that in any police station one would expect the figure to be the famous hero Guan Di (also known as Guan Yu). In the 3rd century AD, probably after an argument, he left home seeking adventure. Horrified to hear an old man was being forced 24 Vision 23
to offer his granddaughter as concubine to a government official, Guan Di took action. Being a hero, he solved the problem by simply killing the official. Not everyone was pleased and he was forced to flee, pursued by soldiers. As he rested during his flight, he washed his face in a river and found it had become, and remained, bright red. Now unrecognisable, he was able to evade his pursuers. Two others
joined him as the Brotherhood of the Peach Orchard and great deeds were done. Now his red-faced statue makes him the patron of men of action everywhere.
Goddess of Mercy My mother-in-law was a Buddhist and had an altar on her sideboard. Her deity
was much warmer and gentler than that of the police – the Goddess of Mercy, Guan Yin. There was a small pottery statue of a beautiful and graceful woman, and in front of it the usual offerings of tangerines and joss sticks. She would also be offered a cup of tea (Guan Di was more likely to demand a cup of wine for his offering).
Health, Wealth and Happiness Most popular of all deities though, are a trio of figures found in almost every Chinese home, and in businesses too. They are not exactly gods, nor are they in quite the same class as, say, the Eight
Immortals. They are spirits, but their qualities were probably based on living people. In Mandarin they are known collectively as Fu, Lu, and Shou, and could be roughly said to symbolise
health, wealth and happiness. That is why they are so welcome in the home. They don’t seem to need the tangerinesand-joss-sticks treatment. They are there to symbolise our aspirations.
Fu – Happiness
Lu – Wealth
Fu is usually the most imposing figure. He is dressed as a court official, he carries a jade sceptre and his hat has long ribbon ‘wings’ to each side. He is variously described as meaning ‘happiness’, ‘good luck’ and ‘good fortune.’ Perhaps this means he represents the happiness that being fortunate in life can bring. He is good for business because he makes things go smoothly. There is full agreement that he always stands in the centre. There is no agreement as to which side of him the other two should stand. Needless to say, there are people who will fight to the death to uphold their own views on that!
Lu is more modestly dressed as a scholar, yet has the meaning of prosperity. If you think that odd, then think back to an earlier time, when to get into grammar school, let alone university, meant that a working class boy or girl was going up in the world, and taking the family along, and when a civil service job was a job for life. China had an empire, but also a civil service and became a meritocracy when the Sui dynasty established the Imperial Examinations. A common person, if clever enough, could join the civil service on passing these exams. Thus Lu comes to signify prosperity through one’s own achievements. He holds a scroll, but sometimes this is replaced by a baby boy. That is because if you fail your exams prosperity may still come through your son.
Shou - Health The third member of the trio, Shou, symbolises longevity. He has a huge forehead, so that his head looks rather like a peach. He also carries a peach and a peachwood staff. The peach symbolises longevity in China. The one he carries is special and comes from the Queen of Heaven’s own tree. This tree takes 3,000 years to bloom and a further 3,000 years for the fruit to ripen. He may sometimes be depicted riding a deer, as this also symbolises longevity. He is the only one of the 3 who may be depicted alone. Without longevity to enjoy the other blessings, happiness and prosperity bring only fleeting joy.

ragons are known the world over, and make their appearance in numerous indigenous cultures. Some are fearsome, reptilian and firebreathing, whereas others are almost cute in appearance and trouble no one. Regardless of where you travel upon the face of the planet, you won’t have to look far to find a dragon of some sort. In the West, dragons are often seen as aggressive and hostile. In the Orient, however, the dragon has a far more positive connotation, although it certainly isn’t a beast to be ‘messed with’! Pay a visit to any Chinese New Year celebrations, and it won’t be long before you realise that the Oriental dragon, or Lóng, is different in appearance to its Western counterparts. Whereas the Western dragon is often given the torso of a lion, the Oriental or Eastern dragon is more like a snake, possessing a long, serpentine body with fearsome-looking claws. Over the millennia, the Chinese have enjoyed something of a love-hate relationship with dragons. In past ages, the dragon was often seen as a symbol of royalty, and used as a totem of the current emperor. Some, like the rulers of the Quing Dynasty, even had dragon emblems on their flag. After the Cultural Revolution, of course, such ideas didn’t sit too well with the government. The dragon was also seen as a symbol of warfare and power, and there was a worry that monarchists might be tempted to rally behind the dragon motif and create an insurgency! In the main, however, the Chinese people have an affinity with dragons that surpasses all other cultures. The dragon is often seen as the embodiment of yang, the principle of positivity, masculinity, light and heat. The dragon is also connected to the water element, however, and is believed to be the bringer of rain.
26 Vision 23
Chinese people feel a sense of pride in the fact that the dragon has such an integral part to play in their cultural heritage. Indeed, they will often refer to themselves as the ‘Descendants of the Dragon’ or ‘Dragon Children’. In some parts of China, newborn babies will be blessed by the proverbs, ‘May he live a dragon life’, or ‘May he grow to be a dragon’, which is really a poetic way of praying that one’s child will be successful and influential in later life. The dragon is so tied up with the culture and folklore of China that many foreigners see it as the symbol or mascot of the
Chinese people. In fact, its use in China as an official symbol is uncommon. The government prefers to use other, less emotive icons such as the panda. Despite the fact that the overall concept of dragons in China is extremely positive, they are also treated with great respect. Chinese people go to great lengths to avoid displeasing dragons on the basis that it may bring them bad fortune. Although the government doesn’t use the dragon as an official symbol, it takes a dim view of films, novels or plays that cheapen the dragon’s image or cause it insult.
Dragons, perhaps more than any other Chinese icon, possess positive characteristics that can, if embraced, cause a person to succeed in almost any field of endeavour. Dragon people are full of selfconfidence, enthusiastic and eternally optimistic. They are filled with dynamic energy and never give up. Dragon people do not tactfully sidestep problems, they devour them and then move on. They are leaders, not followers, and generally like their own way. However, dragon people are
extremely honest and virtuous. Although they like to be in control, they will never bully others into submission and the word “lying” simply isn’t in their vocabulary. A true dragon person couldn’t tell a fib to save their life. They also enjoy being the centre of attention, and have a great sense of humour. They are wise, make good counsellors and are the most trustworthy confidantes. On the “down side”, they can also be a little rash and impulsive and may sometimes set the bar too high when trying to achieve their goals. With such positive traits, no wonder the Chinese love dragons so much!
I
n Chinese tradition there are five elemental dragons, all of whom have good qualities worth emulating. Knowing about these qualities may lead you to recognise yourself as one of them, but be sure you are realistic and not idealistic when you decide! We all have the ability to be anything that we want to be, if you already know who you are now, you will have a fair idea of who you could become. Embrace your dragon qualities and call upon that dragon within, to help you and guide you using the skills that he has and avoiding his natural weaknesses. If you look at the Chinese Elements (P22) you will also be able to work out which dragons you will work with best, and which ones it is best to avoid. Employ your dragon power and be lucky ... and like a dragon, never give up.
Like iron, the Metal Dragon just can’t be bent. He is set in his ways and really doesn’t care whether others agree with him or not. The Metal Dragon is happy to work as part of a team – if it suits him. If it doesn’t suit him, then he’ll quite happily forge ahead on his own. On a positive note, the Metal Dragon never fails because he simply doesn’t know how to.
The Wood Dragon is a thinker. He can ‘think outside the box’, and has no trouble in coming up with ingenious ways of surmounting problems. Wood Dragons are kind, thoughtful, fearless and intelligent.
Fire Dragons are hard work. They don’t know how to take “no” for an answer, and can be extremely demanding. However, they are quite persuasive and find it easy to get people on their side.
The Water Dragon is the least ambitious of the five, and doesn’t possess a burning desire to ‘climb to the top’. As long as he’s comfortable, he’s content. The Water Dragon always looks for the good in others. When things go wrong, his optimism shines through and he’ll simply try harder tomorrow.
The Earth Dragon is the pragmatist and the arbitrator. He has fixed views, but will always listen patiently to what others have to say. Unlike other dragons, he is not given to outbursts of impetuosity, and will spend much time in reflection and consideration.

oo Dogs (sometimes called Fu Dogs) are the Great Protectors in Chinese mythology. Since the Han Dynasty, they have featured in art and sculpture and are beloved the length and breadth of the Orient. For a while though, Foo Dogs fell out of favour. Then, during the T’ang Dynasty they underwent a great revival. Since then, they have enjoyed an unrivalled reputation amongst Chinese people of all spiritual and cultural persuasions. The Foo Dog is seen as the protector of all sacred edifices. They are routinely seen standing outside temples, business offices and even family homes,
standing guard over the occupants. Typically, the Foo Dog will scare away everything from burglars to malign spirits. Here in the UK, they are popular too and are usually placed as protective guard-dogs either side of the front door (mouth facing towards the door is best) . The Foo Dog wields great influence in China. Even Buddha was depicted as sitting on the back of a Foo Dog in popular Chinese art. Sometimes they are seen holding a spear in their paw; not as a sign of aggression, but as a symbol of the peace and 28 Vision 23
Michael Standing Wolf looks at the guardian protectors of Chinese homes – Foo Dogs harmony they maintain within the building they protect. Also to deter any would-be invaders, their faces were often given a rather fearsome countenance; staring eyes and robust jaws.
As well as protecting the property of their charges, Foo Dogs are also believed to engender positive feelings such as happiness and contentment. They are often seen in pairs, thus representing the Chinese concept of ‘balance’. Male Foo Dogs are often seen with a sphere between their paws. This represents the earth and the dog’s guardianship over it. The female will typically be holding a young cub, again illustrating its role as guardian and protector. Like dragons, Foo Dogs are to be treated with respect. Their images are not to be defaced, and it is not wise to engage in unseemly behaviour in their presence. Of course, in this industrial, mechanised, bureaucratic world in which we live, it is easy to dismiss dragons and Foo Dogs as quaint cultural leftovers from a bygone age. However, we shouldn’t be so quick to judge. These powerful totems exert a very positive influence on Chinese people even today, and act as reminders that help is always available from spiritual sources should we seek it – provided we do our best to help others when we can.
Next time you visit Chinatown, take note of the number of Foo Dogs that present themselves to you. There’ll be more than you might imagine. They have a prestigious place in Oriental culture, and
have survived for a very good reason; they remind people that there is more to this mysterious universe than meets the eye. Outwardly they may look fearsome, but their appearance belies generations of accumulated wisdom and lore. By studying the meaning behind Foo Dogs, we can learn much about the importance of protecting the vulnerable and making the best of our opportunities. The dragon and the Foo Dog teach us that, no matter how bad things get in this life, tomorrow there will always be another dawn. Want your own set of Foo Dogs? Chinese coins are popular symbols of prosperity. Use our Lucky Coin Oracle to see what your future holds in the coming Chinese New Year
I
n most cultures, coins are symbols of wealth and comfort. The accompanying benefits of happiness that most people associate with wealth go hand-in-hand with coins. Chinese Coins, or I Ching coins, have been used for centuries as amulets (charms to dispel something negative), particularly to ward of evil and disease. Often they were worn by children, the
child being given one coin for each year until they reached the age of 15. The coins would normally be blessed first, before being given to the child. In Feng Shui, coins represent the element metal, which is (not surprisingly) connected with wealth.
There are many ways of using Chinese coins to bring luck: String three coins together on red thread and place in the Fortunate Blessings corner of your home (see article on P36-37 to find it). Coins are sometimes bound together with red thread to form a ball, often with a specially-shaped tassel at the end. These are also hung in appropriate places to encourage wealth and prosperity. Put a Chinese coin in your purse or wallet. It will ensure that the money never entirely runs out!
1. Concentrate hard on what you would most like to know about the future, with emphasis on those areas of your life affected by your finances. 2. When you think you have a question formulated and clear in your mind, hold your hand over the next page, with the pictures of coins.

Intuitive astrologer, psychic and dream interpreter Samantha Hamilton continues Vision’s monthly alphabet round-up of the most common dream scenarios.
Common dreams beginning with the letter
‘X’
X (Gyfu Rune) To see an X in a dream connects us with the ancient runic tradition and can indicate a gift given by the gods to do with fellowship, loyalty, partnerships and a loving relationship. It symbolises the respect that we give to one another, which is naturally built upon in our lifetime together. It talks about faithfulness of the heart and commitment to one another. This sign also encourages support, but does warn you not to put yourself completely at the mercy of someone else, for it takes two individuals in harmony to make a balanced partnership - not one amalgam of the two. In order to have a balance in your relationships and partnerships, you must remember not to collapse yourself in to one another. So, it is important to be mindful of what you do when you desire commitment, as too much intensity while striving to achieve the perfect relationship can only cause possessiveness, jealousy and domination. On the whole, though, the gyfu rune (X) is a positive sign.
X (marks the spot) Remember the exciting stories that we once read as children, in which X marks the spot of the pirate’s treasure? Dreaming of an X can symbolise something similar. This letter is obviously trying to draw your focus to what lies below the surface of your emotions, but because the X shape also makes the sign of a crucifix or cross it can indicate sacrifice … that suggests you let go of painful situations. This is mentally stimulating and at the same time exhausting, but everything must come to an end so you can be reborn in your outlook and emotional life. Where this dream symbol is involved, it usually includes a treasure map. A treasure map is an indication that your ambitions are achievable and will be of great benefit to you in the future. The size of the X is also important; if it was small and you felt it should have looked bigger this foretells a loss of income unless you handle the situation immediately. A large X is an excellent indication of future happiness.
even being aware of it. This dream could be encouraging you to try and bring these influences in to the light. X rays are often associated with an illness and healing, but they can also represent your fears about your health, possibly even anxieties of some illness that has not yet come to the surface. If you dream of having an Xray taken of your teeth (or any other part of your body) this can indicate you are being deceived by one of your friends, as they are (even if not obvious) the ones taking the image of what is hidden to plain view. To see yourself looking at your own X-ray suggests you will be held responsible for mistakes you have made.
X (Kiss) If you see a letter or some paper which has a kiss on it, it is likely that you have strong feelings of warmth, affection and happiness that you find it difficult to express in your waking world and are bottling up inside of yourself. The dream can also be prophetic, in that it might predict a warm association with someone in the near future, that could develop into something more. If you felt uncomfortable in the dream, it is likely that you are compensating for your daily life and that you currently don’t receive enough love and affection.
X-rated Any dream that includes symbols of lust, eroticism, and sexual curiosity or involves any kind of pornography, suggest a desire for increased sex and exploration. However, if you dream of your spouse or partner looking at pornography, it is likely that you have some subconscious fear of being second best to someone else, either literally or metaphorically.
Xylophone To hear a xylophone being played out of tune, foretells conflict in your life that needs to be worked through as soon as possible, such as difficulties in business, or with a personal relationship. If you were listening to beautifully played music by an expert, this predicts good fortune and recognition for achieving your best ambitions in life. To play a xylophone can also indicate a historical interest. A broken xylophone is warning you to protect your health; carrying a musical instrument such as a xylophone can symbolise success with the opposite sex.
X Ray This dream is all about your hidden authority. Because X rays are invisible, they can have an effect on us without us
X-ray Vision If you dream of having X-ray vision, you should use your intuition to look carefully at your life and see what is really happening – you may be missing the bigger picture! X-ray vision also indicates something which is not available through normal vision, so the dreamer may hope to see something hidden from everyone else in his or her waking life.

he Priest-Christie Tarot was created in 1987 in a remarkable collaboration between psychic artist Robert Priest and Tarotmaster James Christie.
In this, the third part of a five part series, James Christie lifts the lid and explores some of the sexual aspects of the Tarot that you’re not likely to discover when you consult your local psychic or
Although masculine in its artistic depiction, the sexual energies associated with The Hermit are applicable to both sexes. Here we see the person with a vast store of sexual knowledge and experience, who has learnt everything there is to know about every sexual technique, but who realises that desire and eroticism are of equal, if not greater, importance than sex itself. If sex is taking place without these other ingredients in place, it becomes mindless and mechanical. Rather than indulge in this pointless exercise, The Hermit archetype will frequently choose abstinence and celibacy. There is great spiritual power bequeathed to any man or woman who has learned to control their sexual urges. But there are other gifts of equal importance which are very sexual in their nature. Oscar Wilde is quoted as saying “the difference between real sex and imagined sex is that one if infinitely better than the other”, and for the person with little or no imagination, real sex wins hands down. However, if you are attuned to The Hermit’s vibration, your imagination is as vivid as it is three dimensionally real. There is no man or woman than you cannot possess, no lover that you cannot satisfy, no fantasy that cannot be fulfilled. In a reading, The Tarotmaster might be tempted to talk about solitude, but he should be aware of the fact that dreams and fantasies frequently do come true but they have to start somewhere, and in this case, they start in the imagination. 34 Vision 23
favourite fortune teller. Here we continue the journey of the Major Arcana with cards IX to XIII – The Hermit to Death and find out what sexual secrets they hold for you.
We live in an ever-changing world and nowhere is this more apparent than within the gamut of emotional relationships, and The Wheel card should be an ardent reminder of this fact. The sexual desires you experience when you are 19 years old are not the same as those that you experience when you’re 39 … or 99. The values you would find attractive in a partner when you’re starting out on your journey through life, may well become repellent later. Traditional western philosophy says that you get married and make the best of it with one partner, but that is in an old world that we have long since left behind. During the span of our lives, many of us have a number of different partners that satisfy different needs at different times. True, we are all searching for that one perfect partner, but very few of us ever find such a super-being. Thus, in a reading scenario, The Wheel denotes not only the necessity of, but also the inevitability of change. Perhaps these are small changes in the way a relationship is conducted, or possibly it alludes to something more Draconian: in the words of my Grandmother “You’ll never find the right person for yer sen while you’re messin’ around with the wrong ‘un!” Either way, for the querent looking for change, The Wheel has got to be good news. It promises that there are changes coming, - which may be worrisome for the querent who does not want to accept the need for change in the structure of their emotional life.
If there is one card in the Priest-Christie Major Arcana that speaks of marital infidelity, law courts and divorces, then that card is Justice! However, if there was a divorce for every time Justice fell in a Tarot spread, then the whole British judicial system would collapse overnight! Therefore, there have to be other interpretations to this symbol; and these are the ongoing feelings of frustration and injustice that one comes across in the day-to-day conduct of a relationship. ‘She’ is longing for sex but ‘he’ is too tired after a long week in the office. ‘He’ really wants to make love, but ‘she’s’ got a head ache, a back ache, or it’s the wrong time of her cycle. These situations (and thousands like
them) build up a steam of resentment and the Justice card asks us to recognise this and do something about it. Sadly, justice can sometimes become confused with revenge and nobody who has ‘been there’ needs to be reminded how painful it is to be on the receiving end of betrayal. Justice speaks encouragingly of transcending these bitter memories and promises a re-balancing of the scales that will allow us to get on with our lives without constantly looking back over our emotional shoulders at the grief and carnage of our past – and then, just to cover every eventuality, it slyly promises the opportunity of revenge to those few souls who cannot move forward without first tasting this sweet and bitter wine.
Traditional interpretations of The Hanged Man (Odin hanging from the tree of knowledge) will speak of sacrifice in all its myriad forms, but as far as a sexual interpretation is concerned, the key words are “self imposed restraint”. The Hanged Man archetype would rather ‘go it alone’ sexually, than give his seed to someone deemed as unworthy to be the recipient of his (or her) sexual favours. Before delving into the dark side of this scenario, let us at least give credit where credit is due and acknowledge that The Hanged Man is capable of great restraint in the realms of celibacy and chastity and will not settle for anything that might even hint at accepting “second best” when it comes to a union with a sexual partner. But there is the dark side. Frequently, The Hanged Man archetype will fall into the trap of becoming nothing more than someone who ‘does their own thing’ sexually, in the belief that imagined sex is better than the real thing. No one can reject you and there are no messy goodbyes in the morning after the night before. In a reading, both for a male or a female querent, there is no ambiguity in the meaning of this card. They prefer sexual self-gratification rather than going through the messy business of building relationships. There are no enforced “I love you’s”, no unmade beds, no commitments – and no restraints to the power of the imagination.
If there was to be a funeral for every time the Death card turned up in a reading, undertakers would be out of business in a fortnight because they’d run out of coffins for all the corpses! Therefore, let’s forget about death and instead talk about change and transition – the ending of a relationship, perhaps, or the transition from puberty and adolescence to manhood or womanhood - and therefore the death of one’s virginity. Logically then, in a reading situation, any young person anxious to enter the sexual world can take heart if the Death card is present, and indeed anyone who is longing for change in their sexual circumstances can breathe a sigh of a relief, as that change will surely come. On the subject of ‘relief’ this card signifies the ‘little death’ of orgasm and as such speaks of the release from all manner of sexual frustrations too. However, on a warning note, this symbol bodes ill for those who are resistant to change, and the more the individual resists, the more likely they are to be pressed into perverted and deviational sexual enterprises - for change is necessary and stagnation in one’s sex life can lead to a complete rejection of it - or worse! Thus, Death’s message is clear. Let it flow and let it go, embrace the concept of change within the framework of your sex life and benefit from the new sense of freedom that this process of transition inevitably brings with it and th greater joys to follow. 35 Vision 23

behind burners on the stove, to make it seem as if there are twice as much food and so double your wealth. You can do the same with the dining table. In businesses, a mirror can be placed next to the cash register to double the takings. Improve your position The best position is further back in the room, facing the door. The person closest to the door will be the first to leave the job. If in your office you are too junior to insist on facing the door, place a mirror on your desk so that you can see it reflected. In restaurants and pubs – just note the favourite seats. Back to the wall, facing the door. It is caveman instinct! At home, your bed should allow you to see the door (but ideally should not be directly opposite it). If you can’t see the door, use a mirror to reflect it to you, but
be careful you can’t see yourself in it from the bed. Sleep without spirits Don’t have too many mirrors in the bedroom as you want the energy calm there. Particularly, don’t have one at the foot of your bed (if you do, cover it at night). Feng shui says that as you drop off to sleep, your emerging spirit will see itself in the mirror, take fright and wake you up. And if you were thinking of having them on the ceiling – then sleep was never on your mind, so I suppose it is alright! The Feng Shui Masters don’t mention it for some reason …
Keep them alive and choose well! Use living or silk ones. If the former, keep them alive, and if the latter, keep them dusted! Spiky plants like cacti are fine on the windowsill at the front to deter burglars, but round leafed and lush plants are better for encouraging luck within the home.
In the Feng Shui system, the Fortunate Blessings corner (also known as the Wealth Corner) is found by standing in your room with your back to the door. If it has two doors, use the one nearest the front door. Point with your left hand forwards and left, to the far left corner of the room. That is your Fortunate Blessings corner.
Calm your house If you have an irregular room, with angles facing in, the layout will disturb the qi and could cause problems to a person in the path of the disturbed energy (or Sha Qi), which bounces off that inner corner. A plant in front of the corner, or trailing down over it (it needn’t go the whole way) will calm things down. Ward off negativity Plants are used to encourage good luck and avert bad. A friend of mine in Hong Kong was surprised to find on her first day at work she was shown to the best
Make sure plants put there are round leafed. Things that are made of wood, or green, purple or red are good here and four is the number. Take a red envelope (I use a Chinese lucky packet, but any will do) and place three identical coins in it. £1 coins will do. Leave the envelope unsealed and put it into that corner. Tuck it under a plant or put it in a drawer, depending what is there.
As above, stand with your back to the door, but this time point to the far right corner. This is the Relationships Corner. The colours are yellow, red and pink and the number is two. Here you can put two pink candles or cushions – the choice is yours. This is an earth corner, so crystals can be used and rose quartz is ideal. Be careful that pictures here reflect the kind of relationship you would wish to have.
desk in a shared room. Near a window, commanding the door – and surrounded by plants! “All right” she said, in her broad Bolton accent “oo’s died!”. She impressed her new Chinese colleagues, because she was right. The last occupant had indeed died and the plants were to ward off bad luck. She, however, took the desk and prospered.
Then, if the universe wants to help you, it will. A big lottery win is unlikely, but anything that is due to you will arrive. Why three? To bring the 4th!
Water represents money (certainly my Hong Kong students would say they had no water, meaning no cash). Toilets are thought dangerous, as they let the water (money luck) run away. In the bathroom, the Chinese say you should keep the toilet lid closed when not in use, to avert bad luck. Some will put a small mirror on the outside of the door – to reflect the opposite wall and pretend the smallest room isn’t there. Does it work? Try it. At least it will make the men put the seat down after them …

“But there was something else in the room too, something that had kept hidden until I was alone. It wasn’t until I was a developing Medium that Mum admitted she knew it was there too.
“However, this was minor when compared to the next 13 years. These were to be some of the most harrowing times ever, which lead to an innocent family having to leave their home!
“Like many children, I would often chatter away to my (so called) imaginary friends that I could see. They were very real to me, but they were dismissed as make believe by all the grown-ups. 38 Vision 23
“It wasn’t long after, that I started to tell my Mum about the old lady and the solider that were in my room who come to talk to me. My Mum was just dismissive, believing that I was recalling my Nan’s ramblings. However, I would describe my visitors in great detail, and from those descriptions my Mum knew exactly who they were!
“something that had kept hidden until I was alone.”
“I could recall events that had happened before I was born.”
“When I was a couple of years old and able to speak, my Mum started to realise that I could recall events that had happened before I was born and even while I was in her womb. Certainly she was fascinated by all of this, yet there was another part of her that was very afraid.
it! Eventually, my Nan moved into a nursing home and that’s when my parents decided to give me my Nan’s old room.
“I would find myself being woken up at night. Firstly I would hear someone slowly walking up the stairs and across the landing. My Mum would try to tell me that it was just the hot water making the floor boards creak, but I knew it wasn’t.
would reply angrily that it was them and could she continue her conversations in peace?
“... tell my Mum about the old lady and the solider ...” “Apart from the conversations, items would go missing from my Nan’s room too. Sometimes, her handbag would have incomprehensible writing appear all over
“I would feel breath, a presence, a touch ...” “Then I would start to feel a cold on my face, I would feel breath, a presence, a touch and a pushing feeling. I lost count of the times that I would scream and cry in the presence of these intruders (there was more than one of them!). “Thankfully, my Great Grand Mother was looking after me in Spirit and I would feel
her presence around too. When she came, the intruders would go. I later in life discovered that she worked as a Clairvoyant, and taught my Nan to be one too.
happy that they had found a nice house to live in, with everything they wanted. The problem was, this house was never going to be the loving home that they expected it to be!
“Part of my frustration was that I felt no one would believe me, so when I was about 10 years old, I finally spoke to two of my mum’s sisters, not knowing that they themselves had been going to spiritualist churches for years. They suggested I had training, but my Mum wouldn’t have it!
“... house always felt cold, even with the heating on.”
“... my other ‘visitors’, who didn’t seem scary any more ...” “As the years went on, I got so used to my uncle’s and Great Grandmother’s visits that they became part of my everyday life. So did my other ‘visitors’, who didn’t seem scary any more, in fact I enjoyed having them all around.
“... if ever we moved home I wanted them all to come and haunt the new owners ...”
“My mum stayed in contact with some of our previous neighbours, so over a three year period, she heard about the things that went on in that house. One of the first things was that the house always felt cold, even with the heating on. The family had difficulty in keeping the coal fire alight too. “Their eldest daughter had been given my bedroom. She complained that it didn’t feel right and that she was uncomfortable, so it wasn’t long before she moved out. Then, shortly after that, the family cat was run over and killed.
“Finally … they moved out!” “After the elder daughter left, the younger daughter moved into my room.
She quickly became ill, and apparently, the doctors were unable to find the cause of her illness. The next problem was with the father, who had a serious accident and was forced to give up his career because of it. Then the mother developed a life threatening tumour in her brain. Finally … they moved out! “So what really happened in that house? Were they just unlucky? Did malevolent spirits drive them out? Or did I think them away? Perhaps it was all three? All I know is … I think very carefully before I ask the ‘Powers that Be’ for anything, now!” Paul Cissell is a professional medium and has his own show on Spiritual Connextions radio.

“Over the years I kept a number of pet animals, mainly mice and fish. Every time one died, I would take it to the bottom of the garden and bury it. Eventually I had my own little pet cemetery. Every day I used to go down to my pet cemetery before school and say ‘hello’ to my pets and tell them how I enjoyed living in this house and never wanted to leave. I also said that if ever we moved home I wanted them all to come and haunt the new owners and scare them off so I could move back in. Little did I know that these requests I made as a 10 year old child were about to come true! “When I was 13, my parents decided to move. Just take the day you were born and if it is above 10 then add the two digits together, or if it is under ten then this is your luck number. 2, For example: I was born on the 21st of August 1968 so my luck number is 2+1 (21st) =3 (LUCK NUMBER 3) 3. If I had been born on 1st August, my luck number would be 1. ALL NUMBERS MUST BE BETWEEN 1-9 SO IF IT IS ABOVE THIS, ADD THOSE NUMBERS TOGETHER .

Rosalind Collier looks at the superstitions and customs of traditional Chinese communities
C
hinese culture is rich in customs, traditions and superstitions. The Chinese are widely viewed as deeply spiritual and many aspects of this spirituality have spread to western societies.
In Chinese culture there are three central colours: red, black and white. Red is the colour of blood, which symbolises the positive aspects of life such as happiness and wealth and is often associated with good luck. Black represents sadness and bad luck, and is frequently coupled with a lack of civilisation and backwardness. White symbolises a mother’s milk and acts as an intermediary between red and black, balancing the two colours. White is often used at funerals as it is believed to harmonise all elements as it is essentially neutral.
At funerals there are numerous practices and customs that must be adhered to. For the Chinese, an improper funeral will bring ill fortune and disaster. All statues of deities should be covered with red cloth and all mirrors must be hidden. It was believed that for a person to see the reflection of the coffin would result in a death in the family. The Chinese are not the only ones to cover mirrors during a funeral, mirrors have long been associated with magic and the spirit world.
Certain numbers are considered lucky in Chinese society. In particular, the number eight is believed to be the luckiest number out of them all. This is because the Chinese word for eight sounds very similar to the word for ‘lucky’ or ‘prospers’. The most unlucky number is the number four, as it sounds very similar to the Chinese word for ‘death’.
There are many superstitions surrounding the New Year in Chinese culture. At the stroke of midnight, it is the tradition to open all doors and windows in the house to allow the old year to go out. It is also the custom to ensure the entire house is clean before New Year’s Day. On New Years Eve, all brooms, brushes, dusters, dust pans and other cleaning equipment are put away and any sweeping or dusting should not
Vision 23
During New Year it is often the tradition to wear red clothing as it is considered a bright happy colour and is sure to bring the wearer a bright and sunny future. Red envelopes with crisp one dollar bills inserted are given out to children and unmarried friends to ensure good fortune for the coming year.
There are also several superstitions surrounding weddings. In particular, wedding clothes should be red, yellow and /or white and never black, blue or grey as these colours will bring bad luck. Couples with the same surname are forbidden to marry even if they are not related. Numbers also play a role in marriage: it is considered bad luck to marry anyone who is older or younger by three of six years.
Some popular Chinese Superstitions If you’re pregnant, don’t use glue. It is supposed to cause a difficult birth If you strike an animal during pregnancy, the newborn child will look like the animal you struck You should never praise a newborn baby because it will invite evil spirits and ghosts Cutting your fingernails at night will attract ghosts A dog howling all night is an omen of death

f you’ve read our articles on Qi Gong and Feng Shui, you will know that the Chinese attribute much of their luck and misfortune to the flow of qi (chi). In addition to qi, the Chinese also recognize an energy system by which the qi flows and is circulated around the body. This energy system is known as the meridian system (jing-luo), or channels. There are twelve main meridians in the body and two major ‘vessels’. Six of the twelve meridians are ‘yin’ and six ‘yang’, which together produce balance. The Yang channels flow from the sun and run from the fingers to the face or from the face to the feet. The Yin channels flow from the earth, from the feet to the torso, and from the torso along the inside of the arms to the fingertips.
Chinese systems of healing are legendary and many work with the meridian system. So what are the meridians? Meridians are acknowledged and worked with in a number of therapies, the best known being acupuncture. Sources do vary on their location. They are also used in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), Reflexology and Acupressure.
1
Yang Meridians Bladder (K), Stomach (D), Gall Bladder (L) Triple Warmer (B), Large Intestine (C), Small intestine (A),
1. Clear your sinuses by running your fingers firmly from the sinus area to the temples.
Yin Meridians Heart (H), Lung (J), Pericardium, Kidney (G), Spleen (F), Liver (E)
2. Ease eyestrain simply, by locating the tsubo that is at the point where your skin meets between the first and second toe on the top of the foot. Massage gently and apply some pressure. Also good for insomnia.
The two vessels Governor vessel (I) Conception vessel (M)
Each meridian is connected to a Zangfu, or organ, and has a collection of acupressure points (tsubo) running along it, as illustrated. The meridians can be likened to the circulatory system, where the qi flows through the body and nourishes the organs in the same way that the blood does in actuality. Like the circulatory system, it is essential that the flow of qi is not blocked in any way. It is said that it is blockages of the energy flow that result in illnesses and disease. 48 Vision 23
Knowing how the meridians flow around the body means that you can help yourself to clear blockages of qi, and so aid health and vitality. You can invigorate your meridians by tracing their path (in the direction indicated above, depending on Yin or Yang) and gently thumping or rubbing along them to stimulate the flow. You can also rub or massage the tsubo to clear any blockage that you may find. Where there is a blockage in a meridian, one or more of the tsubos may feel tender, so you will know where to work.
3. Suffering from indigestion? There is a tsubo on the outer side of your calf, about four widths of your index finger below the knee. Putting some pressure here is excellent to help digestion and is also alleged to encourage a long and healthy life!
3
4. Ease backache, headache and dizziness by stimulating the tsubo that is found immediately to the rear side of the outer ankle. 4 2

Nigel Hobbs looks at the celebrity phenomenon of Power Bracelets … and tells you how they can work for you
H
ave you seen those little bracelets that many celebrities were wearing not so long ago? Power Bracelets became the latest fashion accessory, as news of the celebrity endorsements for them hit the media. Just why were they so popular and can we get any benefit from them now? Let’s look at the origins of Power Bracelets and their potential healing properties!
Mala Beads Power Bracelets are an offshoot from the ancient (but still used) Mala Beads, or to give them their full name, Japa Mala beads. They originated in the Orient around 800BC and consisted of 108
beads. Tradition has it that they were made out of bone, wood, or Bodhi seeds, although the poorest used sandalwood and the richest have them made from gold or silver. They were used in a very similar way as the modern day rosary, for saying mantras.
Mantras Mantras are religious or spiritual statements of intention or devotion and are used to focus the practitioner on their aspirations. The main uses for the beads were to count mantra, which could be used either to appease the Gods, or to overcome adversity. A mantra is similar to a prayer that is repeated over and over again, this can be just the once, or many times around the Mala. The Mala was normally held in the right hand between
the thumb and the ring (third) finger and after each mantra the bead is moved forward by one. The string for the beads was traditionally made up of nine threads; these represented Buddha Vajradhara and the eight Bodhisattvas.
Ancient Power Bracelets The Chinese Buddhist (Su Zhu) malas also had 108 beads, but they were divided into four sections, each of 27 beads, with each section being a different colour or size. It is from here that we get the modern equivalent. This is the Power Bracelet, which have been worn by many celebrities from the fashion and film world. They can be found for sale in many New Age shops and even some mainstream jewellers. You can also find a selection in Vision Shop (see page 78).
The Power in the Bracelet How to cleanse bracelets Whereas Mala Beads are meant to be used as an aid to prayer, Power Bracelets are, as the name suggests meant to be worn for empowerment, as often as possible. Ideally, once you have bought your bracelet, you should cleanse it. To do this is quite simple. Simply wash your bracelet by placing it under running water if you can. A stream is perfect, but we
50 Vision 23
don’t all have one nearby, so you can use a tap or immerse in spring water. Then, just leave it on a windowsill to dry naturally.
Wearing your bracelets You can, of course, wear more than one bracelet at a time, each one with a different stone. This way, the power from them will combine. For instance, if you wear Aventurine and Lapis Lazuli together and work in sales, you should (hopefully) increase your sales. Fluorite and Carnelian should remove stress from your life and also energise you at the same time. The only thing you shouldn’t do is wear two or more bracelets for opposing problems, as that means they will cancel each other out. Try them! They look great and can really help to empower and heal! If you can affirm what it is you want to achieve when you wear them, you increase their efficacy.
Stone types and uses There are many types of stones used in modern day Power Bracelets, with each stone bestowing different powers and healing qualities. They look good to wear, but the real bonus is that they are affordable for most pockets, as the stones are usually semi-precious and readily available. There would not be space in the magazine to cover all the different varieties of power bracelets you can buy off the shelf, but I have compiled a list of the commoner ones which you can obtain easily. If you can’t find what you want to buy, you can always make your own. Stringing beads is not complex and you can find all the materials you would need, including beads in the appropriate stones, from a lot of hobby Lapidary companies. You can then make up your own combinations!
Amethyst This calms the mind and reduces anxiety. It also can help with spiritual awareness and healing as well as insomnia. Some say it is good for maintaining sobriety, drinkers please note!
Turquoise: This stone is known as the Master Healer. Mind, Body, Soul … you name it, this is the stone to heal it! A favourite with Native Americans, it is an incredibly spiritual stone.
Aventurine: This is the one to wear for prosperity and success. It also is good for intuition, helping you to tune in to the right vibration. It promotes creativity in all things.
Fluorite: If you want to get rid of any stress or negativity in your life, then this is the ultimate bracelet to wear. It works like a mirror by reflecting all the negativity back to the source.
Jade Known as the “stone of fidelity”. It brings stability and harmony into our lives and helps with relationships. It is also considered very lucky for both love and money with the Chinese.
Unakite: This unusual pink and green stone is believed to help depression and makes you able to see beauty in everything. It also helps you to see when you are being deceived.
Hematite: This should enhance personal magnetism, will and courage. It is also supposed to be beneficial for blood flow, and hopefully reduce pain, especially in joints.
Goldstone: Wear this for vitality, you should feel glad to be alive … and it looks great too! Stories say that monks put in the gold flecks that you can see in the stone - it will make you feel great, anyway!
Rose Quartz These beads will promote love and passion. They will also ease stress and bring peacefulness into your life. If you’d like to give and receive a little unconditional love, choose Rose Quartz.
Lapis Lazuli: This is great for communication of all types. All sales people and people who have difficulty expressing themselves should wear this bracelet.
Carnelian: This is a must for me as it energizes and motivates! If you are lethargic and need a jump start every day, this works better than coffee. It also increases sexual desire (you have been warned)!
Tiger’s Eye: This always seems to be a popular. It is great for creativity and should help you bring your ideas to the fore, while keeping you focused on your goals.

When did you first become interested in healing and spiritual matters? “When I was 5 years old I became very ill with a serious allergy to penicillin. I was taken to see an acupuncturist, who I believe saved my life. His work made a deep impression on me and when I was six, I started to learn Tai Chi. “When I was about ten I had to watch a relative of mine suffer a great deal of pain. I saw the suffering of people around and that affected my heart. I decided then, that I would really like to be a doctor or healer so I could help people. So I started Qi Gong, Kung Fu and Wu

Dr Zhi Gang Sha has become a worldwide phenomenon with his simple and effective techniques for holistic healing. Dr Sha spoke to Vision and revealed some of his techniques. Shu and studied the I Ching and Feng Shui. Later I followed my original desire and studied Western Medicine so that I could become an Acupuncturist and Herbalist (Chinese Medicine).” How did you discover the healing techniques in your book? “In 1986 I started to study with my current spiritual father and mentor: Master Zhi Chen Guo. He is the founder of Zhi Neng medicine – this literally means the intelligence and capabilities of the mind and soul. I studied with him and from his book and then in 1993 I finally went to China to start to learn from him in person. “When I’d finished my studies I went back to Canada to start to teach. In China I have witnessed 1,000s of people with incredible results from life-threatening conditions. I was so touched with the results, I committed to
healing for humanity. I summarised all the healing wisdom from Tai Chi, Qui Gong and Wu Shu and also Western and Chinese Medicine, and then combined them with Zhi Neng: a combination born of 5,000 years of wisdom.” You talk about healing with the soul, mind and body. How do you define the soul? “The soul is the Spirit. In China and India people talk about the soul, in other countries people talk about the Spirit. Spirit and Soul are the same thing. Some people talk about the essence of life, some talk of the Inner Being, but I can see the soul is the essence of your life, your soul can be your intuitive healing.” Can you give us an example of a healing that took place using your methods? “A lady fell down in her garden and both her knees were in excruciating pain. She
couldn’t move and thought maybe she had a fracture. Suddenly she remembered that her son had told her about Soul Healing and she repeated the phrases. Within two minutes her pain had disappeared and she got up and walked. “There are thousands of cases that I have heard about. In my last 20 years of teaching people, I have seen remarkable self-healing results. It has proved that we have the power to heal ourselves and the world.” Does it matter if you believe you will be healed or not – do you need faith in a God? “If people do not have a faith, but practice Soul, Mind, Body medicine it still works. If you want to know if an apple is sweet, taste it. If you want to know if the healing technique of soul, mind, body medicine works – experience it.” Do you believe in a higher power/God? “I believe totally in a higher power, the Divine and I dedicate myself to this higher power and to humanity. I truly want to help.”
Can soul, mind, body medicine work with Western medicine? “Soul, mind, body medicine is a universal servant and supports and works with Western medicine, Chinese medicine, in fact all medicines and therapies. It does not have any conflict with any types of healing modalities.” Do you ever get sick yourself? “I very seldom get sick. When I am overtired and work very hard, I get a cold, but I do not let the sickness develop. When I have symptoms, I practice the techniques, and also every morning and every night.” What are your plans for the future? “My new book, Living Divine, is shortly to be published. It talks about how everyone can communicate with the divine and can receive direct healing and blessings. I have some other books to
come and some available already on my website. I will also continue to give seminars around the world about Soul, Mind, Body medicine. My total mission is to transform the consciousness of humanity and the souls in the universe by teaching about universal love and healing. Millions are suffering, but people can literally self-heal and I’d like to show them how they can.”
Soul, Mind and Body healing techniques Soul Power “This is the simplest technique. You may have a problem with your knees. So you would say: “Hello, Dear Soul of my knees, I love you! You have the power to heal yourself. Do a good job! Thank You.” Repeat this a few times and you will receive soul healing for your knee. The results can be beyond comprehension!”
Mind Power “Mind Power is a ‘mind over matter’ technique that uses creative visualisation to help heal. It involves visualising a beam of light, your ancestors or your deity blessing you. “Over the last few decades, there has been lots of research and books on the
teachings of mind power. Mind over matter is powerful and as far as results go - millions of people have received great benefits from mind power.” Try it and see for yourself. You have nothing to lose at all, except ill-health.
Body Power “This uses special hand positions for healing. The technique ‘One Hand Near, One Hand Far’, involves holding one hand 4 to 7 inches from the area of illness while the other hand is placed 12 to 20 inches from the lower abdomen. “This technique moves energy from the area of illness to the lower abdomen, a storehouse of energy, and so aids healing.”
Sound Power “Here the person chants vibrational mantras to stimulate cell expansion and contraction (One of Dr Sha’s suggestions is to use the numbers 3396815 in Mandarin – pronounced “sahn sahn jow lew bah yow woo” which clears energy blockages). The mantra is a spiritual calling out– when you chant a mantra you gather high level spirits – high level spiritual ancestors etc.” If you’d like to find out more about Dr Sha and Soul, Mind, Body Medicine, you can visit his websites: www.drsha.com and www.sharesearchfoundation.org where you can also order his books and find out more about his courses and seminars. 53 Vision 23

elcome once again to Coven Corner. Now that the seasons are feeling the brunt of the coldest weather and Yule has passed, it’s time to pick up our tools. Now is a good time to start keeping a record of your magical workings and ritual work. This can take the form of a journal, (called The Book of Shadows). A Book of Shadows can include a section for spells; recipes for incense and magical oils; colour association charts and astrological information for the year ahead, amongst other things. There is usually a section for your own reflections and mystical experiences, which are very important for your future progress, This book is usually kept private and for your own eyes only, until the time when you might pass it on to a younger coven member or apprentice. If you would like a book especially designed for the purpose, you can get one from Vision Shop (see page 78).
The bell is often part of the altar kit of a practitioner. It is used to welcome in, or banish, spirits from within a ritual circle. It is kept on the altar in the western or female side. The bell is also rung to unleash vibrations of a feminine nature and is therefore connected strongly with the goddess. The bell is ideal as a
signal, both to you and to the Goddess, that you would like to have an audience with her. If you can get one with a nice, sweet, clear tone, it will also work very well on you psychologically and help you to get into the right frame of mind. It is very important to have a signal, both for yourself and your deity(ies) to open and close a ceremony, and a bell works very well in this capacity. Another excellent use for the bell is to drive ‘evil spirits’ out of the walls of a property, but ringing it (after a blessing) around all four walls of any room you feel needs cleansing.
Bright Blessings,
Andrea Tu Di Gong is a local earth god who is worshipped in China by followers of the Chinese folk religion and by Taoists (Daoists). He is typically depicted as an elderly man with a long white beard, a black or gold hat, and a red or yellow robe. He carries a big wooden staff in his right hand and a golden ingot in his left. He has shrines in most Chinese villages, where he is said to be responsible for governing

their local affairs. He was not seen as all-powerful, but was seen as some sort of bureaucrat to whom local folk would turn to in times of hardship or drought.
Legends are full of descriptions of mystics working over boiling cauldrons in far off glades in deep forests, yelling and chanting various forgotten words. In actual fact, no modern practitioner would be without a collection of magical recipes, but they might omit the yelling! In reality, brews and potions tend to be no more than herbal teas and infusions of various herbs and spices
A brew to accelerate healing This brew can be used in the bath, or as an ointment applied directly to the body. When using, visualise yourself returning to full health and vigour. 1 blue glass bottle (you can buy these from aromatherapy suppliers if you don’t have one around) fresh spring water 1 part rosemary 1 part sage 1 part thyme 1 part cinnamon
Grind the herbs, and allow them to sit and absorb the sun's rays for a day. Add them to the water in the bottle. Allow the bottle to sit and soak up the sun's rays for a further day. As soon as the water is coloured by the herbs, it can then be used.
mixed to a particular recipe. These can be used in a whole variety of ways. Some are drunk; some are put into baths; whilst others are used to simply infuse the atmosphere in an area with their scent – causing the air to feel uplifting and charged with energy (or to drive something negative away with the stench). Below are a couple of recipes which I have come across in my workings.
A brew to enhance your psychic abilities This brew can either be drunk as a tea (sweeten with sugar from sugar cane if desired), or used as an atmosphere enhancer. 3 parts rose petals (you can get these dried from most home brew shops) 1 part cinnamon 1 part nutmeg 1 part bay very small pinch of saffron threads
Place all the ingredients in a tea pot and fill with boiling water. Let it brew (covered) for around 5 minutes, whilst meditating on the purpose of the brew – this will empower it. Remove the cover and allow the vapour to be released into the air – then breathe deeply. If you wish to drink it, let it cool slightly, pour into cups and then sip slowly, allowing it to open up your psychic centres.
Witches Kitchen: Rice Gender: Male Planet: Sun Element: Air Properties: Protection, rain and fertility. Ritual use: Rice can be sprinkled on the roof of a dwelling house to protect those within from all misfortune. It is often carried to ward off all evil. If placed in a small jar then it can be used to protect the house against the entry of evil forces. When thrown into the air it can be used to encourage rain to fall. It is traditionally thrown as confetti after newly married couples. Many have forgotten that this is to encourage fertility …

he Year of the Pig marks the 4,704th year since the start of the Chinese Calendar. Chinese New Year is lunar and usually begins on the 2nd new moon after the Winter Solstice. This year begins on 18th February 2007. As the 12 animals progress through the years, the Pig marks the end of a cycle. Next year begins the cycle again with the Rat. Are you Yin or Yang? Within the 12 year cycle, there is an alternation of Yang and Yin. An animal is either Yang or Yin. There are 5 elements, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. This year is a Fire Year and so was last year. Each element stays for 2 years through the Yang/Yin pairing and Fire Pig follows Fire Dog. A baby born in the Year of the Fire Pig will go through many pig years and fire years but will not see a Year of the Fire Pig until their 60th birthday. Global effects of Yin and Yang Last year was a Yang year, in which

You love flamboyant dress, even if it is just a bright tie or scarf on work days. Beware of being always right and of over-extending yourself.
action is taken and matters are initiated. It is left to the Yin year that follows to deal with the details – and even pick up the pieces. Certainly, last year’s Dog saw the nation debating what it meant to be British in the 21st century, and the Yin Pig now has the task of discovering a peaceful and constructive way of reassessing the way we live together. What makes a Pig? The Chinese Pig is generous, intelligent and well mannered, delighting in helping others. Pigs are pleasure loving and capable of taking the best and richest out of everything offered. A Pig year is one in which we will find ourselves drawn to little luxuries, food, finery, and friendships will all be important and entertainment becomes fun again. Famous Pigs include Elton John, Julie Andrews, both Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Emma Thompson.

You’re honest, straightforward and faithful. You’re friendly and good company. You’re valued for your plain talking and a mixture of realism and idealism. You never betray a friend or a confidence. Beware of becoming overcritical of others and falling into cynicism in your old age.

A Pig year suits you well. You will be ill at ease. Pig years are a mystery to you. Not enough money and luxury in a pig year for you! Rat You plan in a Pig year. Dog You will be contemplating your year last year. Ox Hard work for you this year. Rooster Hard work too (“so what’s new”?). Dragon: Will enjoy the luxury, but not the hard work. Horse A year to realise secret ambitions. Trends are like a weather forecast. If rain is forecast, make sure you have your umbrella. If sunshine, take care not to over indulge. In the Year of the Pig, the problem lies in managing abundance rather than husbanding scarce resources.

Paula Garton gives us an overview of the planet’s movements for February
Mercury is retrograde again, this time in Pisces from the 14th February to the 8th of March. When Mercury is in a water sign, he affects emotional balance. You will need to be forthright in your relationships, allowing problems to surface and be discussed instead of allowing them to fester and cause complications later. You will need to take in information and think about things until Mercury changes direction. See this period as a time to allow your mind to assess and assimilate information ready to be acted upon in March. Mercury in retrograde is not the best time to buy anything that relates to the conveyance of information: this includes signing contracts to having your teeth done! Dreams should be more easily interpreted during this period though, and journal writing more effective. However, spiritual contacts could be a bit hair-raising! Dreams will be more realistic and vivid, and are also likely to be more prophetic: trying to show you which path to follow and who to avoid.
60 Vision 23
Saturn and Neptune come closer to opposition as the month ends, bringing depressive thoughts and difficulties in achieving success. You can avoid depression by letting go of impatience and waiting until these energies pass in March. They may return again in June, but should be gone completely by the middle of July - so our lives can start to look more positive!
Aquarian mind, although usually well camouflaged by their wit and friendliness, but this month it will be highlighted and emphasised more overtly.
Capricorns will be more diligent and exacting this month, making hard task masters as they expect people to work
The sun is alone in Aquarius from the 3rd, apart from Neptune, which is resident till 2011. The sun will connect with Neptune’s influence on the 9th, giving Aquarians brilliant ESP and insight into the future, but negatively there will be a need to avoid problems and responsibilities by watching DVDs and TV. Jupiter shines favourably on Aquarians helping travel and fact finding, confidence and new ideas to solve long standing problems. It will highlight the need to get away to the wide beyond for some freedom to try out unusual pastimes, or join a social club and make new friends. Travel agencies will be pleased with the extra business as will solicitors and tutors all giving out extra information and help. The Asteroid Chiron in Aquarius will give Aquarians the need to gain their freedom through unorthodox behaviour: not following protocol or adhering to structure or tradition. This will appear shocking to most people, who will not understand the Aquarian’s logic or thinking pattern. This is the normal behaviour of an
hard for their pennies, especially if they are the employers. With Mars in occupancy they will be more aggressive and confrontational than usual, speaking up for themselves instead of being aloof. If you work for a Capricorn you will be expected to be committed and responsible, not taking any time off for frivolous pastimes. With Venus in Pisces, love will be idealistic until April, social activities will be creative, but Alcoholics Anonymous will be flooded with people who can’t take the pace … and have sunk into the bottle for relief. Try swimming, that’s a hobby that works with this conjunction: it’s water based! Altogether another complicated month to enjoy, so I hope you do, whatever sign you are!
Lots of new ideas and ambitions come on line this month, and these next few weeks may well turn out to be an effective period for impressing other people around you with your determination and dedication. This mood is enhanced by the fact that some of last year’s plans should now
be bearing fruit and boosting your selfconfidence no end. Social aspects are very bright in the middle of the month and the period between the 12th and 18th will see you mixing business with pleasure in a very effective and productive way. A financial boost around the 20th is a bit of extra evidence to indicate that you’re on
the right pathway now and during the very last days of the month there will be important conversations with lawyers and tax inspectors. Altogether, this is a fantastic month for moving forward with all your future plans as you really will have the planetary winds behind your sails, just ensure you make the most of key dates and go with the flow created by the stars that are most surely working in your favour!
21st Jan - 19 Feb
The early days of February are looking very good for all business and money-making projects and plans. You will have the ear and confidence of other people around you and doors of opportunity that have been closed for far too long should now start opening up for you. Independent business people in the House of Aquarius will be re-investing some of their capital and doing deals to increase their fluidity, while people on regular salaries may be exploring new financial deals with banks and building societies, or consolidating their credit cards, loans and other miscellaneous debts. There will be a frustrating delay around the 4th and 5th though, when something does not fall into place quite the way you hoped or expected. However, by the 24th and 25th you should be gliding high on the thermals of new opportunities again with the problem solved. Important contracts will be signed on the 27th so don’t say I didn’t tell you!
Let Vision’s no-nonsense astrologer James Christie guide you through the month ahead ...
The accent this month is strongly on business acumen and personal endeavour, and therefore it’s little wonder that emotions and affairs of the heart are somewhat more subdued than normal– until around the 12th or 13th when some emotional highs start hitting your fan with the velocity of a V2 rocket! The romantic connotations associated with St. Valentine’s Day are going to take you by surprise this February, although how you deal with this situation is interesting and will be your choice. Whichever way you decide to go, your choices now won’t just dictate the mood of the rest of the month, it may well end up dictating the mood of the rest of your emotional year! Therefore, long before you get to February 14th, have a long hard think about what it is you really want out of a key relationship at this stage in your life, as you may have to make some major decisions when Cupid dusts of his bow and arrows ready for the 14th!
Cash & Career
Love & Sex
Delays: 4th & 5th Sign Contracts: 27th
Emotional High: 12th - 13th Surprises: 14th

61 Vision 23
Quite a fluid month, with highs and lows, ups and downs – but the highs are higher than the lows and even the lows can be productive if they give you some time for quiet thought and reflection. In many ways, February could be seen as a planning month for Pisceans and a time wherein
you are happy to explore new ideas and redefine some long term priorities. It is also a month for physical movement, so while some of you will be going through the process of house moves, others will be enjoying mid-winter holidays and allied travel aspects, from Brighton to Barbados! Travel aspects are particularly
strong on the 4th, 5th and 6th of February - and again around the 21st and 22nd. On a totally different note, this month is not the best of times for looking to other people to provide you with your emotional security. This part of your life is in your own hands.
20 Feb - 20 Mar
Apart from some quite nice emotional highs around the 4th and again on the 22nd, February seems like it is going to be a rather low-key and quiet month for love affairs and the romantic idyll. On the other hand, friendships and partnerships flourish like a weed in a flower bed – although this is a period wherein you’re going to feel the need for some head space and just a little bit of solitude. You’ll be under some considerable pressure to make an important decision on or immediately around the 13th, but as this pressure comes from third parties rather than from within yourself, you should be brave enough to back down from this responsibility unless you know exactly what you want. If there are Valentine’s nights out, they will go by the numbers and unsurprising. Although your conversation might be quite scintillating, your heart and imagination will be elsewhere.
There will be very few worries where day-to-day finances are concerned this month, but you may well find yourself looking to the longer term future in February and playing around with stocks and shares or other investments. Also on a business note, an investment opportunity comes your way between the 11th and the 17th and if nothing else, this opportunity should be considered and discussed, even if you decide not to act upon it. It is worth looking into carefully instead of being dismissed out of hand. Anything associated with overseas property looks relevant too, so if you are thinking of investing abroad, now might be the time to take your ideas a step further. Career minded Pisceans who are climbing the ladder of success rung by painful rung can expect a nice little boost on the 24th, 25th or 26th.

This February looks like being a bit of a frustrating month for many Arians, for while there are no major pitfalls or disasters heading in your direction, things do not fall into place quite how you would expect or hope for them to, and there are likely to be all kinds of delays and frustrations to
trip you up and try to make you fall down! This is applicable across the board and especially in connection with travel plans, house moves, and dates with desirable members of the opposite sex. Look on the bright side – nothing is being cancelled – it’s just being delayed, postponed or re-scheduled, so take it on
the chin and look forward to the rescheduling! The 4th and 5th sees you in an aggressive ‘let’s do it now’ mood, but by the 15th or 16th it may even be you yourself who is doing some rapid backpeddling, especially in affairs of the heart if you’ve made some hasty promises on Valentine’s Day. Think carefully before you make commitments and be sure it is you that is doing so and not the bottom of a bottle!
21 Mar - 20 Apr
This year you will be using February’s income to pay off Christmas debts and to straighten out quite a bit of bent plastic that bought some really nice presents for friends and family! On the one hand, it should be nice to know that you can do this without too many problems, but on the other hand, you’ll resent having to do it, especially when you cast an eye forwards to the spring and early summer and see the possibility of some very pleasurable but expensive adventures. It is always hard to save for the rainy day when you’re having to fork out right now for last year’s flood! Other people, partners in particular, will try appealing to the practical side of your nature to deal with this situation, and while your own common sense tells you this is the way to go, you’ll not be too happy about having to conform to society’s expectations of you. I can already see a few sulky rams with crossed arms and a steely determination to look put upon!

The first week of the month sees you feeling pretty good about the emotional side of your life, but around the 12th and 13th there is a spot of tension creeping to the surface caused by lack of communication and lack of commitment – but as for who’s not communicating and who’s not committing, well maybe it’s six of one and half a dozen of the other! Communication is key, so if it’s you with the tight lips, perhaps you should consider opening up to your nearest and dearest! If there is a big romantic row it will probably occur on or very close to the 16th, and even though you may be upset and angry, choose your words carefully because you might not have the chance to take them back afterwards. The last week of the month promises to be a little calmer with some kind of bribe or peace offering landing in your lap on the 23rd or 24th.

All things considered, February should be quite an easy, but at the same time a rather exciting month, as new plans and ideas are put into action, new work routines fall into place without too many hiccups, and some new money starts finding its way into your bank accounts and
back pocket at last. It is absolutely vital that you pay maximum attention to all aspects of communication, and if you are in any way reliant on computers, make sure you’ve got a back-up in the cupboard in case your 2007 Blue Widget Mk III suddenly decides to blow a fuse, which it may very well do this month. Telephone
links must also be secure, especially if you’re regularly talking to people in other countries. Professional relationships should flourish for Taureans in this period, but make a point of not taking other people for granted as February is the month they’ll notice!
21 Apr - 21 May
A harmonious month for affairs of the heart with some very nice romantic vibes peaking around the 14th (as you might expect) and then again around the 22nd right the way through until month’s end. February is a great period for proving just how much can be achieved by two people who find themselves pushing forwards towards common goals … and if you can do this with a bit of fun and laughter (yes … and maybe a bit of slap and tickle as well!) then a good time should be had by all. In any relationship, however, there are always a few niggles and tensions, and in your case you might find them creeping to the surface around the 3rd and 4th and again on the 27th. Hold these in check and don’t let them get blown out of proportion. February is a lovely month for you and I wouldn’t want to see it spoiled.
In many respects, February is a month of challenges – but these are the kind of challenges you’ll welcome and should be well prepared for. Your mood should be very bright and confident now, but do please be aware of the fact that you cannot do everything all by yourself no matter how hard you try: you need the good will and co-operation of other people around you, so try not to alienate them with that “I’m in charge” attitude that sometimes gets the better of you when your confidence turns to cockiness. There is high activity connected with banks and building societies and the transfer of funds around the 20th, 21st and 22nd. This is also a time when you will take steps to streamline some of your business operations … which is fine, but just make sure you keep other people in the loop and let them know what you’re doing or they may not be so supportive.

February promises to be quite a gentle month for the vast majority of Geminis – gentle in the sense that there are very few bumps, lumps or sharp edges in it and things that are allowed to go with the flow bring the higher rewards for you. Thus, if you’re tempted to rush and push,
just slow down a little and let things fall into place in their own time, as they surely will do. This may be hard for some Geminis (ok, an awful lot of Geminis!), but it will be well worth the wait. Travel aspects (within the UK) are relevant around the 2nd, 3rd and 4th February and for out-of-towners, trips to London or the
Greater London area seem probable for you at this time. Overseas travel aspects have some influence around the 19th and 20th too. Social aspects and all kinds of get-togethers are positively highlighted throughout the whole of February, but the 15th and the 24th are particularly auspicious for making important new contacts, which are likely to serve you well later in 2007. All in all, Geminis fare well this month.
22 May - 21 Jun
A fairly predictable and routine month for most career related situations, although you might find yourself coming under just a little bit of pressure between the 7th and the 10th. Social and romantic distractions in the last half dozen days seem to be a dead certainty, but to all intents and purposes there’s no harm done and everything will come out in the wash. Cash aspects are steady, with a minor boost to finances putting a smile on your face around the 20th, but whatever is gained at that time will probably be spent long before the 28th, unfortunately! Talking of the 28th, this is an important date for business deals and celebrations – held out of your usual working environment and well worth attending, whether you are ready or not!

No major earth-shattering events in this month’s diary for the House of Gemini and, across the board, it seems that the status quo is destined to preserved for you this month. Now, if you’re reasonably happy with your lot, this can be seen as good news; but if you’re not quite so happy with your current domestic and emotional situations, the message is crystal clear …. bide your time, don’t rock any boats, and exercise some self discipline and patience. My Grand-Mother taught me that one of the most difficult things to do in life is to sit back, wait patiently and do nothing until the time is right– and she also pointed out that this can be one of the most productive things that you can do in life as well. So, as I say love, bide your time, bide your time.

Perhaps a bit of a stodgy start to the month of February, when nothing seems to happen according to plan or schedule, but the energy shifts around the 11th at which time travel aspects come on line – as does anything else that can broaden your mind and raise your sights and
horizons. Low moods of the first few days of the month are elevated by the second week and offer an introduction to a brighter social life from the middle of the month onwards. Your concentration (and judgement) may become a bit erratic between the 20th and the 28th if you allow intensely emotional affairs to
overwhelm your common sense and good judgement. There isn’t actually a division of loyalties between the personal and professional aspects of your life, but there are events falling into place this month that may very well lead towards that situation a little later in the year.
22 June - 22 July
There is a distinct mood of tension in all close personal relationships that will flare to the surface on or around the 18th and then, fortunately, simmer down for the rest of the month. Sexual and romantic aspects are interesting, but they are likely to force compromises in your career ambitions and your desires to be seen and regarded as who and what you think you are, even if that does not coincide with other peoples’ opinions of who and what you are! In your quest for recognition you will inevitably tread on someone else’s toes, but the way you see it, that will be their fault and not your responsibility. Maybe putting some physical distance between yourself and your critics would alleviate some of the undercurrents of tension this month, but do be warned that ultimately what is good for the trifle is also good for the spotted dick.
All professional aspects for Cancerians are highlighted around the 6th, 7th and 8th of February and they will set the pattern for the rest of the month to come. There will be a promotion of some sort for you and an improvement in finances in the wind (well overdue!) long before the 28th, and you’ll feel highly confident that you are on the right path and are making the right decisions for your future wellbeing and longer term prospects. A lover or partner may not agree with you at all on this point (no surprises there!), but the way you will see it is that this is their problem ... and not yours. Education has a role to play in this month’s events too, so look out for those evening classes you’ve been promising yourself and don’t be afraid to give that course on Simple Car Mechanics a try! There must also be some involvement with bureaucracy with regard to children and the welfare of younger people.

A fairly brisk February 2007 for Leoborn folk, with quite a lot happening in both the professional and domestic aspects of your life. There are high levels of energy and enthusiasm, which make this month a bit of a breeze and you should be very well placed to please and impress both
bosses and significant others. The 6th and 7th is a period of planning important social events which are likely to take place around the 14th and 15th, but do be warned there is a tiny frissance of sexual tension creeping into your love life around the 20th. This is especially true if a partner seems to expect a little too
much at this time. Nothing really dramatic here though, and by the 25th February, things should be on an even keel. Some travel plans are being put together for the 27th 28th, but there are no long journeys across the water. I’m afraid, my astrological crystal ball suggests to me that it’s more of a mucky weekend in Scunthorpe!
23 July - 22 Aug
Although you’re not going to be breaking the bank in Monte Carlo, cash aspects for this month are really rather encouraging. Those born in the House of Leo can look forward to some kind of bonus around the 25th or 26th February and this may also be a time when someone puts some extra cash in your hand or your bank, in settlement of an old debt that is well overdue. The beginning of the month (say the first ten days) is a great time for trying out some new ideas and plans and opening the envelope of your influence to those around you, so take advantage of the beneficent influences of the planets at this time and give those ideas a go. If you’re prepared to talk to people without fear or inhibition of how they might react, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the way in which others are eager to listen to you and all you have to say, especially if you’re solving some of their problems for them along the way, which you may very well do.
Cash & Career Bonus: 25th or 26th New ideas: 1st - 10th
Overall February looks like being a calm but very eventful month for Leos in all affairs of the heart. Of course, there are always a few issues that raise their ugly heads, and these are likely to come to the surface between the 8th and the 15th . It is very possible that they might involve an uneasy reunion with someone from your past, but the situation is calmed down by the 18th and 19th and indeed the 19th could be a very significant date for making a new sexual/romantic contact and enjoying yourself. Those of you in established relationships might benefit from doing something to stoke up your winter fires around the 19th and 20th. Even if your method for doing so does spark a bit of jealousy or possessiveness in a partner, it may well be that you will feel that any reaction is better than no reaction. Honestly though, if you’re at that point in a partnership, I think it may be a case of who the hell cares anyway?

February is a very safe and satisfying month for the majority of Virgoans, and especially for those members of the sign who know the value of what they’ve got right now and who have worked very hard over the last couple of years to get it (that will be most of you!). It’s not going to be a
case of sitting on your laurels, exactly, but February is a time for taking stock of your achievements and for feeling pretty damn pleased with yourself and all that you have achieved! Career and business aspects are quite healthy too and although you may be very busy in the first couple of weeks of February, there is
some pressure coming off for you around the 15th, and the second two weeks of the month should provide you with a smooth and easy ride (famous last words!) ... while someone else does all the humping and running around for a change. Delegate and enjoy the break!
23 Aug - 22 Sept
Echoing some of the above sentiments, you’ll spend the first half of the month thinking that if something’s got to be done properly only you can do it, but as you cruise into the second fortnight, you’re far more likely to take your head off the block and delegate responsibility to a third party(ies) and let them take over the reigns for a while. About time too in my humble opinion, so when the time comes, make sure that you do give someone else a turn to deal with problems. Throughout the month there is a good feeling of team spirit and camaraderie, and rather than any kind of opposition, you’ll find a rewarding degree of cooperation forthcoming from colleagues and bosses alike. Finances are good and solid throughout the whole 28 day period but the 26th, 27th and 28th should be especially rewarding, with some bank balances and cash flow increasing.

This will be a pleasant and productive month for all relationships, both the business and the personal, and there will be an ongoing energy of situations where the one aspect influences the other. Business links with romantic partners should work extremely well for you, providing both parties give themselves a little personal space and don’t try living in each others pockets all the time. For those of you that don’t yet have a relationship, the very beginning and the very end of the month are the most likely times for finding new romances and are also the most exciting periods for a few sexual adventures of the most enjoyable sort. Therefore, when you think about it, these are also the most high-risk times when it comes to rocking the boat of existing relationships and unions. A word of advice from Uncle James - be very careful that you know exactly (and in advance) if you are biting off more than you can comfortably chew.

A rather lazy start to the month for a lot of Librans, where you’ll feel happy enough to chug along at a nice steady pace without rocking the boat at all – but then a letter, fax or phone call around the 8th or 9th changes your mood almost overnight and you’ll be filled with a sense of urgency, that
says everything has suddenly got to be done ... and it has got to be done right now! This event may have something to do with an important reunion or new romantic contact that is coming on to the scence, but there are also some exciting changes in the wind on the job front too, which occur in the middle of the month.
You can expect these changes to put a few more pounds in your pocket and a bit more black in your bank by month’s end! February is also well-aspected for all family affairs, social engagement and the relationships they create, in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if there will be news regarding a pregnancy between the 24th and the 28th.
23 Sept - 23 Oct
A calm start to the month for Libras in all affairs of the heart, but I’d expect something to come along to shake things up a bit between the 8th and the 10th, which should lead to some very sexy energies coming on line around St. Valentine’s day. Even better news is that these energies are likely to be around for quite a while afterwards! The whole second half of the month is a time for relationships to make quantum leaps forwards, and if you’re not in anything sexy and serious at the beginning of the month, I rather think the chances are very high that you will be by the end of the month! Don’t say I didn’t warn you! Across the board, personal and sexual confidence is very high for all members of the sign, and ladies should not be afraid to take the initiative in all romantic liaisons.
February is quite an optimistic month financially and this fact will be well reflected in your spending pattern. New clothes seem to be the order of the day between the 4th and the 12th (and a little bit of investment in self never did anyone any harm, in my humble opition), whereas around the 23rd and 24th you should be booking travel tickets or, if nothing else, putting some money to one side for this purpose to use later in the year. Some mid-month changes to work situations are almost certainly likely to be to your advantage and this is a good time to be noticed by important and influential people around you, so take advantage of every opportunity. All business communications during the second week should be of great (and long term) significance, and need to be paid close attention to.

This could be a bit of a spooky month for a lot of Scorpios out there – and, of course you’re going to ask me what I mean by ‘spooky’ ... and the fact of the matter is I’m not quite sure! Put it this way, there will be a pattern of rather weird coincidences, of bumping into people you haven’t seen
for years and yet were thinking about only the day before yesterday, phone calls from people you’ve just thought about to name just a few ‘spooky’ things. Some old fashioned ‘luck’ money will fall into place between the 15th and the 19th and you might find yourself having some very odd waking thoughts and some even odder
dreams. Forewarned it forearmed, at least you will know it’s planetary energies and that you’re (probably) not going mad! One thing’s for sure, and that is that your subconscious will be working overtime in Feburary and in all things you should trust your gut feelings and instincts.
24 Oct - 23 Nov
February will probably be a very sexy month for Scorpios, but also quite a dangerous time as well, especially if you can’t keep your flirtatious streak in check, and even more especially (girls) if you’re going to share secrets with girl friends. Tuesday’s secret will be Wednesday’s gossip and Thursday’s scandal if you indulge in a little tale-telling, so if you ask me, better play your sexual and romantic cards very close to your chest and tell no-one about anything you get up to - not this month anyway. They’ve even installed CCTV cameras behind the bike sheds now you know, so be careful not only of what you do, but just as importantly, where you do it and who you do it with! Valentine’s Day should bring some very high romantic highs, but I’ll bet you a pint of something frothy and cold that it all gets a bit steamy by the 17th or 18th.
I don’t like the open concept of ‘luck’ at all, but for want of a better word, it would seem that luck is very much on your side over the next 28 days, steering you away from disasters and directing you into some very pleasurable and advantageous situations in both the board room and the bedroom! On the flip side of the coin, watch out for problems with cars and transport timetables mid-month, and if you suddenly get a few warning vibes about getting into one particular car or taking one particular train, for God’s sake, trust your instincts and catch a bus or stay at home! Cash aspects are a little volatile between the 10th and 20th and this would not be a good time to go out on any financial limb, but all in all, this is a good month for those born in the House of Scorpio and there’s nothing here you can’t handle in your own inimitable and effective fashion.

A new found feeling of confidence permeates throughout the House of Sagittarius this month, bringing a happy combination of cash and love working together. Although I’m not sure which comes first (the chicken or the egg?), either your sexual confidence boosts your professional
attitude ... or some good things fall into place in the financial aspects of your life, which enable you to relax a lot more in affairs of the heart. Whichever way round it all works - this is an excellent month for all you Saggies out there! This is not a sudden tidal wave of change, but more a gentle lapping that builds with potency
throughout the month, until by February’s end it reaches a climax and you are feeling more positive and focused than you have been for the better part of eighteen months or more! There is also some good advice from friends and family coming your way (watch for this around week three) and you’d be daft not to listen.
24 Nov - 21 Dec
Single Sagittarians score big hits with members of the opposite sex throughout February and it could well be said that this month is a bit of a breakthrough period for affairs of the heart. Old flames ask for forgiveness, new admirers make their pitch, boring old routines become a little more kinky and adventurous – and there will be a tendency to take a few risks and gambles that you wouldn’t have considered for thirty seconds, thirty odd weeks ago, but that now seem worth trying. Even if the 14th is a bit of a damp squib for Sagittarians, be not dismayed by this … for by the 20th you should be really rocking and rolling around the bedroom, with much more interesting and sexy influences from the planets targeting your sign and putting you right in the mood!
There are quite possibly a few shake ups and realignments on the work scene for you this month, but your position seems safe anyway and these changes that I am alluding to will almost certainly work to your advantage in both the short and long term. There may not be wads of extra cash for Sagittarians floating about at this time (shame), but some financial pressures and anxieties are likely to be eased and you’ll become steadily more up-beat about things when you examine your long term career prospects and see just what possibilities are opening up to you. An older member of the opposite sex will be of significant help to you around the 17th to the 20th, but this person is more likely to come from the family circle than, say, from your circle of colleagues and workmates. Just be aware of this when help is offered, it is worth accepting.

Capricorns may get conned into some false sense of security during the first days of the month, believing that things will all go smoothly and you’ll get some breathing space. However, as February unfolds you’re likely to become busier and busier by the day,
until by the 28th you’re working flat out and returning to some of those stressful moods that have been such frequent visitors over the last few years. Take a big breath, step back, stay calm, and don’t tackle more than three or four things at once, even though you know that you can. This time, you need to save on the
stress rather than try to impress (as you normally do)! There is lot of support from family and professional associations this month, but do listen to the advice that’s being given – learn how to delegate and take a leaf out of someone else’s book for a change.
22 Dec - 20 Jan
Business and pleasure should mix very well at this time and this is a great period for any kind of partnership or joint venture, so don’t be afraid to work with someone this month to reach mutual goals and ambitions. Some new ideas will be put into practise too, and whether this means swinging from a chandelier in your bedroom or working the night shift down at the factory, it should have an extremely productive result regardless of which you choose, both emotionally and financially. A special “I love you” gift on Valentine’s Day should be accepted at its face value. Although it is quite possible that it’s being given to you by someone who wants to say sorry for something they’ve said and done – or more probably in this instance, something they haven’t said and haven’t done - it is worth keeping quiet and accepting it with grace and thanks as there is still meaning behind it.
The agenda for February runs thus: laid back moods and some peace for you in week one; replaced by some mounting tensions and frustrations building up in week two; which open the gates to some panic attacks and acute anxieties in weeks three and four! As I’ve said in the overview, take one step back and keep your lid on tight, as this is going to be the only workable strategy! Also, do recognise that this month is a very productive period for making a lot of money, and so if you do find yourself working long hours and if you are spending a lot of cash on phone calls, texts and emails, it’s all very well worthwhile in the end. Keeping calm and going with this rather frantic flow will pay dividends for you. On a cautionary note, make sure all your channels of communication are open and secure.

After losing her beloved and extremely talented daughter, Jill and her husband Roger turned to spiritualism to try and make some sort of sense out of their unimaginable loss. A unique and very special relationship then developed between the couple and well-known medium Stephen Holbrook. Jill shares with us their grief and the strength they found with this new friendship, within the churches and spending many Sunday nights discussing the workings of Spirit with Steve. The couple were soon arranging larger venues for Steve and

This book aims to explain in full detail how he came to discover the best ways of selfhealing and exactly how you can practice Soul Mind, Body Medicine at home. Dr Sha is a very passionate believer in the Divine and this comes through clearly in the book. He not only teaches you his techniques in detail (including clear pictures to demonstrate Body Power techniques), but he includes more information for spiritual growth,

This book describes the roller coaster of emotion, Jill’s experiences as she observed many demonstrations of mediumship by Steve and others, and of her husband’s own developing healing ability. Jill talks openly and honestly about how she longed for a message from her daughter and you really want to hug her with joy when she finds the ‘writing in the snow’. This is a truly inspiring book. I felt a deep and loving respect for Jill as I followed her journey, the couples’ progression and their tireless work for Spirit. This book is for anyone who has the slightest interest in angels, especially ‘beginners’, as this was created specifically for you. That said, I feel this book would be useful to those further along with angel work too. The informative introduction is light-hearted, pleasant to read and gives tips on asking angels for assistance. The Angelic Realms chapter explains the difference between our guardian angels (or spirit guides) and archangels and also contains a comprehensive list of archangels and
their characteristics. The chapter on Earth Angels particularly fascinated me, and it includes some real life stories of how people have been assisted by these special beings. The angels can also assist us with healing, both humans and animals. The book closes with a ‘frequently asked questions’ section, these are always good as you may have some questions yourself. Doreen is a wellrespected author and this is another valuable and inspirational addition to her collection. A ‘must buy’ for all! Jay Want this book? Call Vision shop: 0113 286 3939
Gentle Karma by Simon Lovelock (MG Music, £10.99) This CD is, for me, the perfect meditation CD. It seems to create a space where you can really feel uplifted and safe, lulling you into that special space where you can find inspiration. Some music that is gentle and meditational can also make you feel a bit sad if you are having a rough time in your life. For some reason, this CD just doesn’t, I felt uplifted and comforted by listening to it, instead of maudlin and wistful. There is an oriental feel to the music, which is not surprising as it is full of Eastern instruments, but this ‘theme’ is not overpowering. However, the
Eastern influence does make the CD perfect for Reiki and it also lends itself to all types of therapies and massage. Even if you don’t meditate, I think that as background music Gentle Karma will help you create an atmosphere that is welcoming, relaxing, healing and even sensual. I think both sexes would feel romantic listening to this – if you’ve got a date coming up, please note … Gentle Karma is quite sensual! I really can’t imagine that anyone would not like this CD, I would highly recommend it as a staple for your meditational and ambient music needs. Diana

The Feng Shui Box by Jo Russell (Connections Book Publishing, £5.99) This is another of those nifty little boxes, presented very smartly in black, red and gold. Please be assured, the author really does know her subject having been introduced to Taoism as a child. The box
contains all you need to successfully ‘Feng Shui’ your home, business and even your garden. It includes a Bagua template and compass, eight trigram cards, four animal cards, a red ribbon and an extremely informative book. The book, though small, is crammed with masses of information. It explains how you can minimise negative effects from outside your home such as being ‘overshadowed’ by any taller buildings in your area and how you can Feng Shui your garden. The book then leads you around the inside of your home describing step-by-step how to get the most from it, and covers every room you could possibly have in your home. It even includes the garage! A segment follows this on how to apply the
five elements to increase the effectiveness of Feng Shui for maximum success. This is so much more than a ‘quick fix’ box; though I have picked up many handy tips just from this review. Anyone who has an interest in Feng Shui will love it, and experienced practitioners will too. Jay Want this book?
