Natural Beauty? I recently picked up your magazine for the first time about a week ago and sat down straight away and read it from cover to cover. I think it’s brilliant: with real-life spiritual experiences and how you can practise these yourself. It also inspired me to look up different spiritual practices, such as Hawaiian, featured in issue 14. Thank you so much for opening my mind, and expanding my own awareness. PS: Is there any hope of you including a feature on natural beauty? Laura Moss-Ennis, Darlington (Laura, you’ll be pleased to know that Natural Beauty will be covered in Vision 18, out on 17th August. Ed.)

Could Vision talk Ouija? I am wondering if you could write about how to use the Ouija Board safely for the next issue of Vision magazine? I have used the Ouija board before, so I know a few tips on how to use it. I thought it would help others to use the Ouija Board safely as most people I know who have got a Ouija Board don’t use it. Jaymie Thomas Smith, Wirral (We were so impressed with Jaymie’s techniques, he has been included in our article on P17 and gets a CD for his letter and efforts – Ed.).

Spiritual ConneXtions goes paranormal A year has literally whistled by since Spiritual ConneXtions was launched and in that year, this spiritually-based website has pulled in over 7.5 million visitors! A new area has now been created on the website: the “Paranormal Directory”. This is a section designed in response to the growing number of individuals looking for their nearest investigation groups. The site will also feature some new radio shows, these will be mainly talkorientated, featuring both brand new and familiar named presenters (see below).

Vision goes live! We are delighted to announce that Diana Jarvis, Editor of Vision, will have her own hour-long show, called Vision Quest, on Spiritual ConneXtions radio every Wednesday at 8pm, starting from June 19th. Judge’s rulings are dwarfed by the mystic

Stunned police officers called to the scene of what they thought was a break-in were told that the disturbance was a ghost! The shaken Landlord of The Low Valley Arms pub, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, greeted the attending officers: as white as the woman he had just seen in the ladies toilets! Pub landlord Roger Froggat said: “I heard the alarm go off for a second time, went into the pub and all the television screens had turned on. “I went to check the rest of the pub and standing in the women’s lavatories was a woman with half her face missing. I was petrified.” Officers arrived, but instead of finding any signs of a robbery, they were faced with the shaken landlord. Although they didn’t see any ghost, or any mysterious woman, officers were shocked

One day, when my youngest son was about two years old, I was at the kitchen sink, washing up. I wasn’t thinking of anything in particular, but all of a sudden something compelled me to turn around. I saw what I thought was my son, standing behind me. “How on earth have you got out…” I began; but as I spoke he faded away. Bewildered, I turned to the safety gate and looked into the adjoining room. There sat my son playing happily, exactly where I had left him. My next visitor materialised at work a few years later. I worked a night-shift in a care home, the home was reputedly haunted but apart from sensing negative energies in some areas I hadn’t actually seen anything. However, one night, I was sat on a sofa filling in a report and again something compelled me to look up. In the doorway stood a girl, about eight years old, but it just did not register. I looked down at the report on my lap.

A judge was sacked and fined for his court room behaviour, which was investigated over a three-year period. Florentino Floro from Manila, was fined 40,000 pesos (around $780) and dismissed when it was discovered that he “claimed he could see into the future and admitted consulting imaginary mystic dwarves”. Investigators were told that “three mystic dwarfs - Armand, Luis and Angel - helped him carry out healing sessions during breaks in his chambers”. This was the final straw for Floro’s career, the Supreme Court’s clinic declared that he was suffering from psychosis, but didn’t elaborate much further. Floro has now filed an appeal saying “they should not have dismissed me for what I believed.”

Then I heard a voice say “there’s a little girl standing there.” I looked up at the girl and she slowly faded away. At this point I put the report down and began to realise I had just seen a spirit. With the little boy I had been confused more than anything else, with the girl I went through a range of emotions from shock, wonder and then anger at myself for not speaking or acknowledging her . I discovered that the thought of seeing Spirit was far more frightening than actually seeing one. I’ve often wondered about the voice I heard, initially I thought it was me talking to myself inside my head, but now I believe it was one of my guides. I feel I failed a test that night and it was quite some time before they reached out to me again. Peace always,

Jay

Infusion of love Take 5g of rosemary, 10g of mint and 10g of orange blossom. Boil 1 litre of mineral water and then pour over the herbs in a bowl. Leave to infuse for five minutes. Add 3 teaspoons of honey. Drink a cup of this infusion every morning and evening for 4 days and think positive and loving thoughts. Not only will it be better for you than a caffeine-laden drink, the herbs are aligned with ‘love energies’ and can help you to feel loving … which is the most ‘attractive’ attitude you can have! If you’re troubled by bad dreams then you can try hanging a dream-catcher in your window or above your bed. If you hang it above your bed then the dreamcatcher should be directly above your head. The dream-catcher will filter out bad dreams and stop them entering your Dream Lodge but allow the good ones through. If the dream-catcher doesn’t do the trick, then rub sage on the four corners of your pillow and then tie the sage bundle to the dream-catcher. As an added protection, before you go to sleep call upon the spirit of Bear to guard the entrance to your Dream Lodge. Michael Standing Wolf, www.goodspirits.goldenkipper.com

Want to spice up your sex life? Use spices! You can make yourself a magick pouch for increased libido and attraction by combining the following (all easily available) on a new moon, preferably on a Tuesday. Fresh chilli, ginger, cinnamon and a bit of rose oil, the latter to ensure that you attract loving sex. When you mix them, get your emotions going, recite clearly what you want when you mix them and imagine the best possible result! Do be responsible with what you ask for, the law of three applies! Then put the spices in a piece of red material, gather it at the corners and tie the top with red ribbon. Place under your bed and hold on!

Having trouble with difficult workmates? Feeling that everyone is getting at you? It may not be them, it may simply be the Feng Shui of your workspace, creating negative energy. Here are a couple of things to avoid if you can: Working with your back to an open office can make you feel vulnerable. Move a plant behind you or move yourself if you can, so that your back is covered! Ensure that you are not facing any sharp corners or pointed objects, such as the corner of a desk, or a pylon in front of your window. If you are, you will be subjected to ‘Shar Chi’ or ‘killing arrows’ of energy. Minimise their effects with a well-placed plant or piece of material. Clear up clutter too, it creates negative energy.

In July, Mars is opposed to the constellation of Gemini and as such there are likely to be a few arguments with work colleagues and all kinds of communications problems. Therefore you need to be very direct and open in your conversations with people, make sure there are no misunderstandings in dealings with business associates and also personal relationships with members of the opposite sex. It is not a time to be coy with your words, but rather extremely frank and candid. If important business deals are coming down at this time, for God’s sake check the small print and don’t sign up for anything unless you are totally satisfied that it is going to give you what you want. James Christie, www.magepublishing.co.uk

I’m sure you’ve heard of the law of threefold return (what you ‘give out’ comes back three times)? This means that you have to give out in order to get back. Here’s your chance to help others and increase your own cashflow! Next time someone rattles a charity tin in front of you, or you see someone homeless and helpless, toss a few coins at them, it only needs to be what you can spare (but don’t be mean, you’ll defeat the object and feel almost as rotten as if you hadn’t given anything!). When you have given some coins away, recite quietly to yourself three times: “I invoke the law of threefold return for my gift – thank you, thank you, thank you!” Say it with feeling and belief. Get the added bonus is the nice warm feeling you get for your kindness. Everyone wins!

M

okele-mbembe is a giant reptile said to inhabit the swamps of the Congo, perhaps the most formidable jungle on Earth. Its name means ‘he who dams the river’ on account of its size. Brown in colour with a long neck and tail, the beast is said to be aggressive and to destroy canoes that come too close. There have been many accounts of the monster, too many to repeat here so I will only give you a couple of the more dramatic accounts. James Powell, member of the crocodile specialist group of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, investigated reports. One of these reports was from Pascal Moteka, a pygmy who lived near Lake Tele (infamous for sightings). He recalled a tale of the killing of a Mokele-mbembe shortly before his birth (around 1950). The fishermen were too afraid of going out onto Lake Tele because of the monsters which entered it via waterways or molibos. The tribe’s men cut down some trees of about fifteen centimetres in diameter and trimmed off the branches. Then they sharpened one end of each and rammed the blunt ends into the mud at the bottom of one of the waterways, to form a barrier against the monster. One of the creatures tried to smash its way through and while entangled on the spikes, the pygmies managed to spear it to death. There was a great celebration and the animal’s carcass was butchered and eaten. However, all who ate the flesh of the Mokele-mbembe were poisoned and died soon afterwards. This brings to mind the almost universal belief of the toxicity of dragon blood. In many British dragon legends so much as a drop may be lethal and many victorious heroes met their end by spilling the blood of their terrible foes. This tale was latter confirmed by other fishermen in the area.

Africa is so large that much of it is still a mystery. Richard Freeman investigates the monsters said to inhabit its less accessible regions

Pascal had seen the animals himself, mainly in mid-morning. He related seeing their long necks rise two metres from the water and on occasion a rounded back surfaced like a buoy. His intense fear of the creatures prevented him from approaching them and consequently he only observed them from a distance. Other witnesses saw the animal at much closer range. Nicolas Mondogo said his father had seen a massive animal with a long neck come out of the river and onto a sandbank. It left dinner platesized tracks and a great furrow where its

ten metres long. It stood two metres high and possessed a neck of a similar length, giving a height of approximately four metres, quite comparable to a giraffe. The tail seemed longer than the neck. David Mambamlo, a schoolteacher, saw it even closer. Only three years ago, he had been canoeing upstream from Epena. At about three p.m. a two metre head and neck broke the surface only ten metres from his vessel. He was mesmerised with horror as it rose further out of the river exposing its upper breast. The monster was grey in colour with no visible scales. David

tail had dragged in the wet sand. This occurred between the villages of Mokengi and Bandeko on the upper Likouala-auxHerbes River. Close to this spot Nicolas had his own sighting when aged seventeen. It was seven a.m. and he was on his way to a Catholic mission at Bandeko. He had paused to hunt some monkeys when a huge animal rose from the river. The water in the area was only one metre deep so he could observe the underbelly and legs of the animal. The beast stayed in view for three minutes. It had a long neck as thick as a man’s thigh, a head that bore a comb like a rooster, and was reddish brown in colour. It was a mere twelve metres away and was some

picked out a picture of an Apatasaurus from a book and said that the animal most resembled that. He subsequently showed the expedition the location of his sighting; a cave in the riverbank one kilometre from the village. The water level had dropped, revealing the cave but no occupant was spied. The Congo dragon is believed by some to be a surviving descendent of the sauropod dinosaurs. I think it is much more likely to be a gigantic semi-aquatic monitor lizard. We know from the fossil record that a giant monitor called Megalania prisca stalked the Australian outback until as recently as 10,000 years ago. It was 30 feet long. Today persistent

reports of titanic monitors come from the jungles of New Guinea. Some monitors are semi-aquatic and these tend to have long necks. I think the Congo monster is an undiscovered giant species. Many other monsters are said to stalk the dark continent, Indeed, a whole book could be written on them. The following is one of the strangest. In the West, a ghostly, ethereal globe of light bobbing and flitting in the inky night sky would doubtless be called a UFO; some would even deem it an alien craft. To the Namaqua people of Namibia this light would mean something infinitely more terrifying, namely a latter-day dragon. The Namaqua have been reporting such creatures for decades. Their flying snake is described as being the size of a large python, yellow in colour and speckled with brown. From its cranium two horns sprout and a pair of bat-like wings grow from behind the head. Strangest of all, a glowing ball of light is said to shine on its forehead. This is strikingly reminiscent of

the magical pearls or jewels that were said to be embedded in the heads of Asian dragons. It would be easy to dismiss this as native folklore, but white settlers have seen them as well. In January 1942, sixteen-year old Michael Esteruise was tending sheep when something emerged from a cave on top of a nearby hill and launched an attack. “I heard a sound like wind blowing through a pipe, and suddenly the snake came flying through the air at me… it landed with a thud and I threw myself out of its path. The snake skidded, throwing gravel in all directions. Then it shot up in the air again, passing right over a small tree, and returned to a hilltop close by.” Michael had been sent out by his father, the owner of a vast farm in Keetmanshoop, to dispel the native mumbo-jumbo that had been costing him men and money. All of his farm workers had left after he ignored their stories of a giant flying snake that laired in the

mountains where his sheep grazed. He finally deputised his boy to show the ignorant savages the folly of such beliefs. The boy did not return. He was later found unconscious and when he came to, related his dramatic tale. Oddly he said that the snake smelt of ‘burned brass’. Police and farmers investigated, in time to see the winged serpent crawl back into its cave. Lighted sticks of dynamite were hurled in after it. After the explosions they heard a low moaning for a while that gradually died away. This incident was investigated by no less an authority than Dr Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer, a woman forever immortalised in the annals of cryptozoology as the discoverer of the coelacanth (Latimeria chalumnae), an archaic fish believed extinct for 65 million years. She interviewed the boy who took her to the spot of the attack. She did not see the beast, but observed the great furrow it had made in the dust. She also noticed the lack of small animals such as birds and rats. In 1988 Professor Roy Mackal, better known for his Congo excursions, investigated fantastic claims on a remote property owned by German settlers. Locals described a massive featherless creature with a nine metre wingspan that glided between two hills nearly two kilometres apart at dusk. The thing seemed to have lairs in crevices in the hills. Team members discovered the remains of ostrich carcasses in highly inaccessible areas and believed that the creatures had preyed on them, taking their kills back to the nest area. Mackal returned to the USA without having spied the animal but shortly afterwards one of his team members got lucky. James Kosi, who had stayed on in Namibia for a while saw the monster from a distance of around 300 metres. He described it as a giant glider, black with white markings. So are these monsters real, or just the products of superstition and over-active imaginations? I’ll leave it for you to decide …

The time: A pleasant but cold night in April The Place: The Loredo home, Stockton on Tees The Visionaries: Nance Turner-Collings, Dean Balance and Diana Jarvis

H

ello my friends! Welcome once again to another vigil. This month we were invited to Stockton on Tees to visit the house of Mr and Mrs Brad Loredo, their children and, in particular, their son Joel. You may remember that they featured in Vision 14 where Brad told his own story of the hive of activity that surrounds Joel at night. Brad had asked if we could try to explain what and why these things happen, and if possible shed some light on the situation? Well, we aren’t ones to turn down a challenge, so off we went, and here’s what we found out. Nance Turner-Collings

11 Vision 16

The Loredo House As we were already aware from Brad, the majority of the activity experienced centred around his youngest son, Joel. Joel is 8 and autisic, with the most amazing friendly and loving personality, but the inability to speak coherent sentences. Other phenomena had been witnessed elsewhere in the house, but not so often. Brad had set up an infra-red camera linked to a TV so that we could all see what was going on in Joel’s bedroom if we weren’t actually in there at the time. It was fantastic to see orbs moving on screen, we can’t capture the movement for you here, but we have got a great screen shot for you! Joel’s Room When Di entered the room, she said that the room temperature was cooling down, and she felt the presence of a woman in the room with her. She described her as having long hair, which was parted in the middle, but the woman didn’t want to get to close and moved away. Di picked up on lots of

children, playing games like hide and seek, and felt them to be quite mischievous. She felt strongly that Joel could communicate easily with all the spirits and see them, too. She said that Joel was a very smart boy, but talks on a different level, i.e. directly to Spirit. Di felt that Joel is an ‘old soul’: someone

12 Vision 16

I felt that there were problems with electricity and that Spirit just want the family to know that they are there, Lots of Spirit pass through Joel’s room. Kitchen In the kitchen Dean could sense two girls, one about 4 years old and the other 7 years. The 4 year old had blonde, curly hair and Joel asleep while orb watches over him was very cheeky, always giggling. She who had lived many times before in many was dressed in pyjamas and had a teddy. different lives. Di also said that the The 7 year old had dark hair and a women in his room is looking after him nightdress. Dean was told that the and the other family members, and she felt very strong emotions, Di thought that children like to play with Joel, and thought it was great that no one else the woman may have lost a child. knew, they were happy that it was Joel’s secret. The girls also liked to play in the sink, Dean could clearly see them bending over the sink, standing on a step that was in the kitchen. As I entered the kitchen I picked up on a gentleman with a bicycle, who had a dry cough. He was wearing bicycle clips and I felt some connection to Scotland. He keep pointing at his watch and keep shaking his head. I felt that there was something wrong with his hands, and said that he liked to physically touch the Loredos as well as appear to them. He said the 1970s were Di with dowsing rods in the kitchen important. He was dressed in a shirt with the sleeves rolled up and trousers. He As Dean entered the room he started to feel dizzy and short of breath, he had a strong feeling of being watched from every direction, and could feel lots of children in the room, he also said that they can be very mischievous. As I entered the room I also felt dizzy, and very emotional, I nearly burst into tears. I picked up on a strong female presence, and felt that she was extremely protective. I could also see a gentleman walking up and down the corridor, he and the lady were connected in some way. I also picked up thatJoel finds it frustrating that he can’t communicate through speech, and that he tries to do it in other ways, maybe through drawing and colours. However, I felt that Joel finds it easy to talk to Spirit as they Dean in the kitchen with orb understand him, as he does them.

History of the Loredo’s House

Nance tuning in to “Harry”

was stocky but lean. He seemed lonely, as he spent a lot of time on his own in the latter part of his life, and was set in his ways. I got the names Robert and Harry, and a little Jack Russell dog. He asked that the Loredos look up their family tree as there was something more to be known, and he than gave me a party hat and talked of a celebration that was coming up. I felt this was connected to babies. Phenomena Quite a few strange things happened while we were in Stockton. A button on my cardigan was pulled off in front of me; Dean’s quartz wand crystal was broken in half without any apparent

The Loredo’s house is fairly new and doesn’t have much history. The history of paranormal phenomena is a different story, though: the Loredos have had happenings from day one! If you missed Brad’s story in Vision 14, a quick recap. Hundreds upon hundreds of orbs have been witnessed in Joel’s bedroom , many of them coming out of the toybox (a link with the children sensed, perhaps). Most of the orbs would leave the room if Joel was not in there. There has been phenomena in the kitchen, in particular some spoons that danced in the sink. Dean picked up two little girls that said they liked to play there – he couldn’t have been more accurate and he had no prior knowledge of this happening! While we were at the house, there was little that we picked up that the Loredos could definitely confirm as true. However, a call from Brad a few days later confirmed that the Visionaries had done it again! Nance picked up ‘Harry’, said he had a Jack Russell dog with him,

cause and our dowsing rods were bent out of shape whilst kept securely in a case. None of these happenings could be rationally explained by circumstances

that the 1970s were important and that he wore bicycle clips. The Loredos didn’t know who he was at the time, but a few days later they were recalling the Visionaries visit and recounting it to a relative. Apparently, their relative nearly keeled over when he heard what Nance had said! Everything that Nance had said was true, and not even the Loredos had known! Harry was Brad’s Father-in-Law’s relative. Harry died in 1970. He was known for always wearing bicycle clips, even when he didn’t have his cycle with him! He had a Jack Russell, which had jumped up one day and hung himself by his lead! There was also a Scottish link with Harry. The Visionaries as a whole picked up on a lady who was not very ‘forward’ – Di actually said that this lady moved away from her, shortly after Di picked her up. This lady was believed to be Harry’s wife, Alice. It is heartening to know that our relatives stay around us and that some ‘hauntings’ are simply their way of saying ‘Hi’!

or timing. There is no mistaking that there is a lot of energy in the house, and we all felt honoured to be there. It is unusual to get real phenomena, but in this house we certainly did! Photos As you can see from these pages, we did get a couple of really interesting ‘orbs’. The screen shot is spectacular when moving and is just one of the many orbs that we witnessed in real-time via the night shot while we were there. It is quite something to actually be in a room when phenomena is happening and we are grateful to the Loredos for the effort they put in to let us get a real feel for the disturbances that they had experienced. We would like to thank Mr and Mrs Loredo and all their children for their hospitality and fantastic coffee (the best I’ve had for a long time!) as well as their efforts to let us get a real taste of what life is like when you live in a haunted house!

13 Vision 16

In 1760 London was rocked by alleged supernatural happenings in Cock Lane. Paul Chambers tells us about his investigation into one of the most astounding poltergeist cases in British history!

R

eports of Cock Lane were plastered in every newspaper in London. The city was in uproar, gangs of people were waiting every night outside a small terraced house in this down-and-out part of town, anticipating a spectacle that they had read about. What could possibly create such interest? A poltergeist. Allegedly. Every night knocks would sound out from the house and the crowd would wait, both terrified and excited. Hordes would try to get in to see what was happening and notables would investigate on a regular basis, not least of these being Dr Samuel Johnson. Sounds like the stuff of a movie? Not so. In his book The Cock Lane Ghost, Paul Chambers, ex-TV producer, Paleontologist and author, reveals the conclusions of his thorough and exhaustive research into the most astounding true ‘ghost’ story, which also has a good dose of scandal and an alleged murder bound up in the plot. We asked Paul what prompted him to look into the shenanigans? “I’ve always had an obsession with ghosts and the supernatural. I don’t know were it came from, but it started in early childhood. I grew up in Jersey which is quite a parochial place. When I got to England with its fantastic libraries I started researching some cases and got into writing. I have written for the Fortean Times, but in general my writing career steered away from the supernatural – it has been mostly science and history. “When I first stumbled upon the Cock Lane story, it was new to me. I actually found out about it whilst I was waiting for a friend at Charing Cross Road, we were due to attend a Fortean Times convention. I was early to meet my friend so I took a look in a second–hand bookshop nearby. I found a copy of Charles McKays’ Extraordinary Popular Delusions. I picked through it and started

14 Vision 16

reading about the Cock Lane ghost. I started looking into the case and then realised that the summary in the book had a huge story beneath it. I just kept on going and reached a point where I thought the story was so good I wanted to write a book.” Did Paul find it difficult to recreate the whole story from existing records? “It was actually very difficult in places. The main scandal was in London and was well-detailed at the time – 100 different newspaper articles. What was

We wondered if Paul had come to any conclusion about why so many people from all walks of life would be so intrigued and involved in a ghost story? “I think that there are two things happening. To some people the ghost was immaterial. These were “the London Mob”, which is a term for the working-class population, who liked a good riot and any excuse would do. If I feel I am becoming too sceptical I pull down Phantasms of the Living (Society of Psychical Research), where the weight of evidence for ghosts is quite astounding. Diana Jarvis explains your weird experiences. Are these spirit people? I am a spiritual sensitive and I take fantastic pictures of spirit people and energies etc. Please see attached photo. I’d like to know what you think? Mark Bucknell Diana says: Mark has sent in a few photos, which are certainly very interesting. I am always wary of photos taken outside, because of the likelihood that any ‘orbs’ are, in fact, moisture or insects. It is extremely difficult to know for sure what is creating the white spheres, but flash photography does have a habit of picking up everything and bleaching raindrops to make them exceptionally bright. There is a strong possibility that the ‘orbs’ below(1.) were created by moisture droplets. I can’t be sure, they could very well be Spirit making its presence felt. I have included a picture that the Visionaries took when it was raining (2.), here you can see the effect on a digital photograph. You will know yourself the conditions prevalent when you took the photo, Mark, and as a sensitive, even if these are not ‘orbs’, you will be aware if Spirit was present.

Beam me up? I was sitting with my boyfriend. Suddenly my boyfriend turned round as if he’d seen something and, as he did this, I saw a bright white light on the side of his face, like a reflection from a brilliant light source. My boyfriend looked ashen as he turned back round and said “Did you see that?”. He said that he had seen a sparkling beam of white and gold light that had just appeared in front of him and then disappeared. Do you know what it could be? Mary Clarkenwell, Chester Diana says: This is a very unusual description of phenomena. There are a couple of possibilities: that it was the reflection of something in the room or outside, or that it was paranormal. You told me that you very carefully checked for any possible light source; so I must assume something out of the ordinary, for I was not there and have to trust your judgement. It may sound a bit sensational, but I believe that this was probably a ‘higher being’ – perhaps a spirit guide, or even an ‘angel’. Mary, I think you can assume that this visitation was positive and know that you and your boyfriend are being watched over!

Sub Rosa When I lived in a house on my own I always felt there was a presence there. One day I had cleaned my living room and then locked up the house to go out. My living room didn’t have much furniture and the centre of the room was carpet only. When I came back from my trip out, there was a red silk rose in the centre of the room! I did not own a silk rose of any colour, the house had been locked and the windows were closed. There was no way this rose could get there. Where did it come from … and why was it there? Ellen Hall, Swansea Diana says: There are many accounts of this strange supernatural phenomenon: known as an ‘apport’. Sai Baba is a well-known holy man from India, he is credited with being able to produce items from thin air. There are also reports of objects appearing during séances … when all the sitters have their hands joined. If there really was no way this rose could get there by ‘normal’ means, I would say that you can assume the rose is a gift from Spirit (an apport) and that someone on the other side loves you very much. Treasure it.

Jaymie Thomas Smith, 15 year old Vision reader, gives us his sensible and spiritually-aware technique for safe Ouija board practice: as we investigate whether the Ouija is a good idea at all ...

I

’m sure that you, like I, have heard the horror stories surrounding use of the ‘talking board’, otherwise known as the Ouija board. ‘Ouija’ is derived from ‘Oui’ and ‘Ja’; the French and German words for ‘Yes’, respectively. The Ouija first became popular in the UK as a children’s board game in the 1970s and was manufactured in the UK and marketed as a family game. The origins of the board are believed to be much older than this, though. There is evidence that the Ouija board was used in

civilisations as far apart as the Roman Empire and China, but the 1970s in the UK was when all the publicity really began. Many children found the ‘game’ appealing when they tried it and, if the press reports are to be believed, were scarred for life by their paranormal contact with malevolent entities. The game was removed from the market. Please don’t think I am doubting these children with my comments, for I have had many experiences with the board of which some (although few) were not particularly pleasant. I do believe

that there was a degree of mass hysteria involved in the Ouija sensation in the 70s, and parents are naturally protective of their children, and quite rightly so. I can really only write accurately about my own experiences with the board, so that is what I’m going to do. What exactly is a Ouija board? Let’s start from the beginning. Made of strengthened card, plastic, wood or even slate, the board will normally have the letters of the alphabet; the numerals 0 to 9 and the words ‘Yes’ and ‘No’. There may also be symbols on the board, most

17 Vision 16

commonly a sun and a moon as well as the word “goodbye”. Often the board will be sold with a ‘planchette’ which is a small pointer. Sometimes the pointer has a hole in the middle. The original use for the hole was to hold a pencil to act as an indicator; nowadays the hole will sometimes be large enough to take a glass. Usually, participants put a finger lightly on the planchette and start to ask questions. The invention of the Ouija board is commonly attributed to William Fuld, who was granted a patent for a Ouija board in 1892 in the US. Why would you use a Ouija board? There are not many good reasons, really. Much of what a board will give you can

they will have some understanding of how to protect themselves; and so will you. See the comments from Jaymie, one of our young readers who does use the Ouija board. He is living proof that some children are very spiritually aware these days and sets a sensible example! How do you use a Ouija board? The Ouija board is not a solo activity. You will need a group of like-minded people to operate it. In general, the group would sit around a table (round tables are perfect) and the board would be placed in the middle. One person would be delegated to take notes and would not touch the board, or, an electronic recording device would be used. The group would then place their fingers on the planchette and start to ask questions of the board.

stunned by the spirituallyaware approach to Ouija from one of them that I really wanted to use his fantastic example to show you one way you can protect yourself; if you decide to use the board. I would not recommend or encourage the board to anyone, let alone children. However, we all know that children will find a way to ‘dabble’ if they really want to and if they are going to do that, it is so much better that they take an intelligent and informed attitude. Jaymie Thomas Smith is a child who has done just that: Jaymie’s tips: “I would like to share my experience with everyone on how to conduct a safe Ouija Board Session. “I bought a Glow In The Dark Ouija Board, and the very next day I put the board under the light for 10 minutes and then I turned out the lights and the board glowed green. I then told myself and the rest of us to think positive. I then lit a circle of candles around myself and family members. Once I had done that I visualised a white circle around us all, protecting us, and a separate one around the Ouija Board.

be obtained by tuning in mediumstically. The board does tend to invite ‘anyone’ … if you tune in you are more likely to know if you have genuine contact, and it is much safer. Some people try the Ouija for curiosity and sometimes as some kind of party game. I would not recommend either of these two reasons as any excuse to get out a board! If you are in any doubt – don’t. Also, do not use it if you are intoxicated, in a negative frame of mind or ‘for a laugh’. It is not funny. Children should not be encouraged to use it, it really is not a game. However, it is hard to stop a child from doing things they ‘shouldn’t’. The purpose of this article is to inform, not encourage, so that if your children do get hold of one,

How do you use a Ouija safely? Did you spot what was missing from the above description of using the Ouija? Protection. Whether you believe in Spirits or not, if you are going to play with an item which is alleged to put you in touch with an alternative reality, don’t you think it’s worth the effort to try to protect yourself against negative energies, even if you don’t believe in them? A strange set of coincidences led me to write this article, which I have avoided like the plague since I’ve been with Vision. One of these coincidences was contact from a couple of very young Vision readers. Both of them seemed to be very aware of Ouija use, and I was so

”I then asked for protection from our Angels, Spirit Guides and God. I called forth a Higher Evolved Spirit by saying the following, “Is there a higher evolved spirit that are here to help us with the highest of good, let yourself be known”. As soon as I said that the pointer moved to ‘Yes’, and we all took it in turns asking questions to the Spirit, all the answers were positive and enlighting. “We all had a really good time but after a while of using the board, we all agreed it was time to end the session and I closed the session down. I asked the evolved spirit to leave in this positive and loving way; “Michael (that was the name we all got from the board) thank you for tonight, it has been a pleasure having you communicate with us, but it’s time to go, so could you please leave

our circle of love, and with our love and respect, ‘goodbye’. We got a response back saying,

“Goodbye”. I then asked my guides and angels to help close the session down and send the higher spirit back to the place it came from. Once the spirit had been sent back, I closed the circle of protection by visualising the white circle around the board, myself and the family members disappearing. I then blew out the candles When everything was packed away, I noticed a small broken up feather, so I knew we had contacted a positive spirit!” Jaymie Thomas Smith, age 15

Absolutely nothing Complete gobbledegook A name and then gobbledegook Conversation & gobbledegook Intelligent, helpful and insightful conversation Swearing. As you can see, most of the time the

Ouija has not been that helpful. However, on one occasion I was amazed to receive information that no-one could possibly have known from a Spirit claiming to be my father. The Spirit went on to answer a question about my future and was proved 100% right the very next day. Although the Spirit claimed to be my father, I am healthily sceptical, but I was amazed at what happend, even if not entirely convinced!

Negative communication: So, if you find that you are in communication with a Spirit that swears, threatens or claims to be demonic, what do you do? The answer is fairly obvious, really. Stop talking to them! Offer them love and light and ask for your guides and angels to help them – then say goodbye and cut contact! You do not have to tolerate negative behaviour from anybody either here or in the other world. So don’t! I think that one of the ways that you might unconsciously invite in the ‘flotsam and jetsam of the universe’ is to ask ‘Is anybody there?’. Use Jaymie’s example and be specific. Make sure you test spirits too – never assume that a spirit is who it says it is! Ouija Junkies: In my own opinion, the worst side-effect of using the Ouija is the desire to use it again and again. As with dowsing and other forms of divination, some people start to rely on it and use it constantly. It is very hard to determine genuine spirit contact, but people still get drawn in. If you find that you are using the Ouija regularly, you should definitely stop. Use your own common-sense to get answers to problems and don’t rely on a talking board. Too much Ouija, dowsing, Tarot or Runes is an addiction. Avoid it! In conclusion and to answer the question “should you”, I would say “no”! If you must use it, be sensible, protect yourself psychically and don’t do it often. It is a piece of board, but if used unwisely it can become so much more!

Michael Standing Wolf investigates the littleknown culture of the Bush People of Africa – nomadic tribesmen reputed to be the race from which we all came!

T

he first difficulty one comes across when studying the Bush People of Africa is just what to call them. Sometimes called the Kwhe, the San, the Khoe or Basarwa, they are a large, indigenous group of people who live in the Kalahari Desert of Southern Africa. The terms Kwhe, Kwankhala, Khoe and Basarwa are actually generic titles used throughout the country for anyone who, in times past, lived a “hunter-gatherer” or nomadic lifestyle. However, even the Bush People themselves cannot agree whether these names are appropriate. Many Bush People have a violent dislike of the word San, which one anthropologist actually equated with “the N-word” in terms of its unpopularity. Others seem quite happy for it to be used, but only by people outside of their own community. The terms “Bush People” and “Bushmen” are also problematical. Some San people feel that they are derogatory, whilst others feel it is merely descriptive of their origins and lifestyle and are quite comfortable with it. Ultimately the term “Bush People” seems to be the one that causes the least offence so we’ll use it throughout this feature.

Just who are the Bush People? This is also a difficult question to answer. The Bush People are to be found in a number of African countries, but every Bush community seems to have a slightly different perspective concerning who

21 Vision 16

they are related to culturally, spiritually or biologically. The number of Bush People to be found in Botswana, for example, may be given as 50,000 or 100,000 depending upon whom you ask. Generally speaking it isn’t so much ethnicity that determines whether someone is “Bush” or not, but rather how they live their life. Efforts are continually being made to “draw lines” around the Bush People in an attempt to gain some consensus as to how they can be identified as a distinct cultural or ethnic group, but none of them have been successful. Another problem is that the Bush People have no collective name for themselves and do not speak a universally-recognised language. However, there is much that we do know. The Bush People have inhabited the Kalahari for at least 25,000 years and it has been suggested that they may carry that “holy grail” of the ethnologist – the root DNA of the “Mitochondrial Eve” to which all humanity can allegedly be traced back. Thousands of years ago the Bush People could be found from the Southern Cape of Africa right across to the Indian Ocean and the very size of their traditional homelands did away completely with the need to compete with anyone for resources. In fact, the Bush People were peaceful, civilised and gentle. When they weren’t taking care of their immediate needs they excelled in the arts and were some of the most skilled cave and rock-painters ever to have lived.

history stretching back over the centuries, and it seems likely that they came together because of trade, cultural similarities and marriage ties. When times are hard or resources are scarce these groups may split up temporarily until things get better. Despite being geographically dislocated from other communities the Bush People are not averse to “adopting and adapting” when it comes to their lifestyle. Many Bush People communities have embraced the ways of their neighbours quite happily when to do so made sense. The Bush People have proven themselves to be remarkably multiskilled when it comes to making a living. They will still employ ancient foraging and hunting techniques whenever they can, but they also supplement their income by raising cattle, farming and even starting small-scale businesses. The production of arts and crafts for sale to tourists is very popular, for example. Despite their best efforts, the Bush People are not wealthy. Most live “below the PDL” or Poverty Datum Line and rely on some form of government assistance. The Bush People also have great difficulty in accessing many state services such as health care. One of the notable features of the life of the Bush People was their skill at hunting. The young men of each village

Bush women were also adept at foraging for sub-surface roots and tubers. They could “smell” water under the ground and went about their task with an almost paranormal instinct when looking for sustenance. Because they were nomads, the traditional dwelling of the Bush People was an artfully-constructed demountable wooden shack that could be easily transported. Another unique feature of the Bush People is the “vocal click”; a sharp clicking noise repeatedly interjected into their speech. In written form it is usually illustrated by an exclamation mark thus;”!”.

The Future of the Bush People The Bush People, wherever they live, have never made great appearances in the political arena. Their lifestyle and geographical seclusion have often made it difficult for them to have a say when it comes to shaping their own destiny. Governments have also been neglectful when it comes to involving them in community decision-making. The natural home of the Bush People is the wild. In recent decades, however, an increasing percentage of their traditional homelands have fallen within the province of game reserves, prompting the authorities to remove them on the grounds that their presence may actually be damaging to the environment and/or the ecology. This is a difficult argument to sustain when one considers that they have lived in perfect harmony with the earth for untold millennia. Many Bush People have been forced to live in resettlement reservations where the amenities are, to put it mildly, extremely basic. Some have returned to the wild surreptitiously, determined to preserve their noble heritage and lifestyle. The instinctively gregarious Bush People of South Africa have made ties with other indigenous peoples. Many of them have intermarried with groups officially designated as “Coloured”, such as the Griqua, an Afrikaans-speaking

The Bush People ... were some of “the most skilled cave and rockpainters ever to have lived. ”

The Lifestyle of the Bush People Due to their nomadic lifestyle the Bush People tend to live in small groups of between 6 – 8 families, each group consisting of 40 -60 people. In times past these groups were smaller, but the influences of modern civilisation have changed things somewhat. Many of these groups have a

would use tracking and trapping techniques that had been perfected over thousands of years and even today they have been the subject of numerous TV documentaries and even movies. The poison arrow was the hunting weapon of choice, but animals were never killed wantonly. In Bush culture the animal being hunted had as much right to live as the hunter did, and the Bush People only killed enough for their needs and no more, in much the same way as the Native American.

people of Khoisan descent. Their acceptance has been seen by many as a positive step, but others worry that their absorption will inevitably lead to the extinction of some or all of their cultural distinction.

The Bush People in Popular Culture Despite the fact that the Bush People are finding life in the 21st century difficult, they have endeared themselves to many. The South African writer and naturalist Laurens van der Post exercised a great influence over the thinking of Prince Charles and it is widely recognised that, right up to his death in 1996 at the age of 90, he was largely responsible for the future Monarch’s passionate views about the environment. Back in the 1950s, van der Post wrote a definitive work on the Bush People called The Lost World of the Kalahari, which was later turned into a TV series. In 1980 Jamie Uys directed the movie The Gods Must be Crazy starring Marius Weyers. The plot involves a bushman who finds a discarded cola bottle and introduces it to his people – their first contact with Western civilisation. This cultural landmark causes all sorts of problems which ends in the principal character, Xixo, attempting to throw the bottle off the end of the earth. Even then it was almost impossible to make such a movie without committing an unintentional faux pas. A schoolteacher is shown being welcomed into the village, but the song dubbed over the soundtrack was actually the traditional farewell chant Shosholoza, which means “Depart in Peace”! I’m sure even the Bush People would find this funny, but it does illustrate the difficulties in portraying accurately cultures that are radically different to our own. The Bush People have sustained one of the oldest and most noble cultures in the world. It is to be hoped that future generations will not only help them to preserve this culture for ages to come, but also restore to them that which has been lost. The Bush People are our window into an ancient world. If we let the culture of the Bush People die, then we are ultimately harming ourselves for they have much to teach us.

Did Aliens contact the ancient Africans? Clint Denyer investigates.

T

he Sahara, a warm subtropical desert, occupies almost 3 million square miles. Its relative humidity can go as low as twenty percent, with strong dry winds. Such inhospitable conditions make survival an almost insuperable barrier for animals such as gazelles, antelope, jackals and the varieties of reptiles and insects that can be found there. However, humans have clung to life in this environment, and appear to have done so, far back in history when the climate wasn’t so harsh. These human cultures, now lost to us, nonetheless left behind a number of beautiful and disturbing drawings that have created controversy since their discovery. Almost nine thousand years ago, one of these cultures flourished on Djebel Zenkekra in the Tassili-n-Ajjer Massif, a natural, fortress-shaped mountain formation that provided relief from the unforgiving desert sun during the day and shelter against the animals that roamed the Neolithic swamps which would later turn to desert. The Tassili Culture, for want of a better name, left a collection of 4000 images, painted in a variety of colours using flints for brushes. Dark reds, yellows, and even shades of green supplemented the basic reds and whites available to the prehistoric cave artists. Everyday life was their subject matter— the endless cycle of hunting, battle, and domestic life was captured in stone, along with a gallery of figures which stand out in stark contrast to humans in their workaday poses. While there are many such examples of cave art in other rock shelters and ledges throughout the

Vision 16

upper reaches of the Sahara, the ones on Djebel Zenkekra hold a special fascination. Discovered by the 19th century French explorer Henri Lhote, these figures were so unusual he dubbed them “Martians,” explaining “their contour is simple, unartistic, and with rounded heads; their only detail is the double oval at the figure’s centre, which evokes the image we currently have of Martians.” Lhote’s round-headed Martians of the Red Planet were depicted by the primitive cave artists as wearing suits strongly reminiscent of those worn by our own astronauts on the Moon, down to the

over their heads. The problem with this rational approach is that the agricultural know-how and resources to grow pumpkins were nonexistent in North Africa at the time the Tassili drawings were created, and would probably not have been available for another thousand years. Could extraterrestrial visitors include the then-lush Tassili region among their forays in ancient human history? Dozens of books in an equal number of languages have provided circumstantial evidence of non-human intervention in earthly affairs. Biblical texts speak of the “sons of God” attracted

A graphic rendition of one of the famous paintings at Tassili, from the “roundhead” period

detail of the boots. Several hundred such drawings exist, scattered over many miles of desert: strange helmeted and antennae figures, often floating in weightlessness as if the artist had been able to witness one of our modern spacewalks. Other images are of a technological bent, showing what could be taken as solar panels, space stations and floating spheres containing humanoid figures. Unwilling to be caught up in the ancient astronaut craze, anthropologists have suggested that the Tassili “roundheads” are merely ceremonial dancers or priests wearing empty gourds

by the “daughters of Men,” Mayan basreliefs depict what could be a space traveller, and so forth. However, it is this forsaken complex of African drawings that provides a graphic illustration of a similar nature. In 1976, braving desert sands, Polisario terrorists and suspicious Algerian security forces; the Spanish researchers Jorge Blaschke, Rafael Brancas and Julio Martinez reached the Tassili Massif to conduct a systematic study of the enigmatic cave drawings. In the course of their research, they were stunned to find a clear depiction of a

helmeted and suited figure, linked by a tether to the interior of a large, spherical object, leading three human females toward it. Dr. Martinez noticed that the artist had taken great care in showing the women: one of them an adolescent, the other a mother carrying a child, and the third a visibly pregnant woman. Could this be representative of the genetic experiments which are allegedly still being conducted in our days by largeheaded Greys? UFOs still make their presence felt in the modern Sahara. a sighting was made at Ouallen, some 250 miles west of the Tassili-N-Ajjer, in 1942. A group of meteorologists spotted an object at an altitude of 18,000 ft. which they described as a revolving “planet.” The object remained above them for two days before disappearing. Cigar-shaped objects were reported on numerous occasions throughout Algeria in the 1950s—the French air base at Tessalit (Algeria) mistook a low-flying UFO for a DC-3 about to land. The mysterious light made a characteristic 90o turn, and climbed into the night sky, vanishing from sight. Even the 1976 Spanish expedition was treated to a UFO sighting near the desert air-strip of In Salah on its way to Tassili. The Tassili cave paintings in northern Africa are just one small unusual part of a huge picture of a history and knowledge that would have been forgotten altogether, if it wasn’t for the evidence on the cave walls. These were created by people who witnessed events that were so incredible, that they felt they had to document them in pictures for future generations to see. This is not the only evidence for visitations in Africa from a race from another world and dimension. Perhaps the most famous is the story of the Dogon tribe who still exist in Africa today. The Dogon Here is a story told by the Elders of the ancient Dogon tribe of Mali, West Africa. A spaceship spiralled down from the sky. (Spirals reference the golden

ratio, which is Phi, a constant that appears in Nature with regularity, or the movement of consciousness from higher frequency into physical reality). The ship landed somewhere to the northeast of the Dogon’s present homeland. There was a great noise and wind. The ship landed on three legs, skidded to a stop, scoring the ground. Four legs appeared and dragged the vessel to a hollow, which filled with water until the vessel floated. At the same time a new star was seen in the sky, which was possibly a large space ship. The star was described by the Dogon as having a circle of reddish rays around it. This circle of rays was like a spreading spot, yet it still remained the same size. There is a Dogon drawing of the spaceship hovering in the sky, waiting

proven to exist, though some people have called it Sirius C. Sirius C, translated from the Dogon language into English, is called the “Sun of Women”. It is described by the Dogon as “the seat of the female souls of living or future beings”. Its symbol contains two pair of lines that are relevant features of a Dogon legend. The Dogon believe that Sirius C sends out two pairs of beams and that the beams represent a feminine figure. Within the Dogon tradition, those pairs of feminine figures beamed down from the Star/Sun/Planet of Women to their original home near the Hoggar mountains bring many aspects of civilization to the ancestors of their tribes. for the Nommo, the race they say landed on the Earth. It represents three stages of ‘Pelu Tolo’ when it is spurting different amounts of blood or flames [as if it crash landed]. They called the Nommo ‘Masters of the Water’, ‘The Monitors’, ‘The Teachers or Instructors’, ‘Saviours’, and ‘Spiritual Guardians’. The word ‘Nommo’ means ‘No More’ - ‘No Longer’. Dogon art shows grids, perhaps depicting an understanding of the nature of our reality, based on grid programs. The Dogons have described perfectly the DNA pattern made by an elliptical orbit created by the two stars of Sirius as they rotate around each other. They believe Sirius to be the axis of the universe, and from it all matter and all souls are produced in a great spiral motion. The Dogon also claimed that a third star Emme Ya - sorghum female exists in the Sirius system. Larger and lighter than Sirius B, this star revolves around Sirius A as well. It has not been

These four moons of Jupiter are called Galilean, because Galileo was the first to see them when he pointed his telescope at Jupiter. The moons of Jupiter and Saturn’s rings are only visible through a telescope. The Nommo that the Dogon talk of, were extraterrestrials who came to Earth from a planet in the Sirius system. They visited the Dogon, the Babylonians, and possibly the Egyptians, and the astronomical knowledge of the Dogon came from this contact. So – did an alien race visit Africa? What do you think?

Mike Webster recalls his experiences with the Chitedzi tribe of Malawi: the warm heart of Africa

E

arlier this year, my wife Stella and I travelled to Malawi, in Central Africa. We had come to teach Waveform, an energy skill, which enhances healing skills and increases awareness. Our hosts were Reiki Master Vikki Keelan, and her husband Mike. As we settled into our third day, Vikki informed us that a local tribal Chief was critically ill. Glenn, husband of a Waveform student, was taking the Chief to hospital for tests and “was there anything we could do for the chief?” Subsistence farming; extreme poverty; AIDS; mobile phones and computer technology are all a part of modern Malawi. Glenn emailed us a photo taken that morning of the Chief on his way to hospital in the back of a truck. Using Waveform, we scanned the photo and detected energetic disruption in his chest and left arm, more specifically the Lung meridian, and also in the shiatsu hara diagnostic area for large intestine and liver. I called Glenn who was taking the chief to the hospital and asked if the chief had breathing or other chest problems. Glenn confirmed that the Chief did indeed have breathing problems. Having used the photograph to identify the chief’s individual ‘fingerprint’ we treated the area using Waveform techniques. On the following day it was confirmed that the chief’s breathing had improved greatly overnight. Two days later there was further good news. The Chief had asked for me to come and treat him in his village. Glenn and Colleen had paved the way for my visit to the village, and I had been briefed about the protocol that was expected in the presence of the chief. Glenn and I entered the Chief’s compound where we found him lying on a mattress on the ground. The village

elders surrounded Chief Chitedzi, whilst children played and women sat grouped together on mats with their babies. The Chief had been ill for at least two and a half months and had kept this from Glenn and Colleen, and the prognosis from the hospital was far from good. The Chief was in a great deal of pain, he could not rise to a sitting position unaided, and I chose to disturb him as little as possible. Although the first language of the tribe is Chichewa, many members, including the Chief, speak English. The chief explained his symptoms, primarily that his legs had ceased to work and his back was in constant pain, keeping him awake at night.

by energetic interaction and potential change. There was little doubt in my mind that an experienced healer had treated the Chief recently. Having been supplied with hot water and a towel to wash, I began my treatment. I soon became acutely aware that the elders were watching my every move intently, and someone had moved to a position just behind my right shoulder. The treatment was mainly focussed on the Bladder meridian, which is located on either side of the spine. The treatment was deliberately short, as the Chief was uncomfortable and in great pain. I asked for water and washed my hands, discussing briefly

Mike Webster with Chief Chitedzi

An examination of his back revealed areas where a sticky, treacle like substance had been placed, which to me indicated signs of traditional healing; although the Chief and his elders said that the village didn’t have a traditional Doctor or healer. What was more interesting was the precise location of the sticky patches. They were in an area where I had chosen to work, as indicated

with the chief what I had found. I asked the chief if he wished me to come back again the next day. He expressed his thanks for what I had done and said “yes”. Glenn and I said our formal and polite goodbyes and left for home; both of us deep in thought. The following day Chief Chitedzi had not had a good night. He had been awake in pain once again. This

Sunset over Malawi

time my treatment was deeper. I realised that the chief was in less pain as I worked on him. He was greatly improved compared to the previous day when even the lightest touch was painful. During the treatment the Chief’s wife came into the hut and sat down quietly. I had pointed out that I could do only so much, and the Chief would have to make an effort to move his legs by himself. At this point the Chief sat up and said that he was feeling better! I had an opportunity to talk to the chief and also his elders. I asked if there were any questions about what I had been doing. I responded to the questions as simply as I could and explained that the ‘physical’ treatment was, like their own traditional medicine, an ancient form of treatment but it had originated in China. However the supplements we had provided for the Chief, and the nutritional advice were important parts of modern clinical nutrition. Someone asked “how do you know where to work?” I explained that I could sense the areas that were energetically ready for change. This is the basis of Waveform. The mood became lighter. The Chief started to smile, and a sense of relief spread throughout the room. Celestina, the chief’s wife, and the

assembled men laughed as we discussed peanuts. I said I would continue to believe that they come in plastic packets until I saw the evidence with my own eyes that they actually grew in the ground. Aided by Arnold, one of his brothers, and another man, the Chief moved himself into a position so that he could be carried outside. A chair was now waiting for him under a tree in the shade. A conversation about football, the national sport of Malawi, turned to banter between Glenn and the Chief, as

I soon became “ acutely aware that the elders were watching my every move.

they joked about the desperate need for the chief to play Centre Forward for the next village game. Sitting in his chair, the Chief moved his legs, kicking an imaginary ball, with a smile on his face, children playing around him. As we departed, the man who had asked me questions about Waveform emerged from the assembled villagers.

He carried a large bundle of peanuts, fresh from the ground. This was a gift of great magnitude from people who had nothing. They would be close to starvation by the end of the year. I received it with respect and gratitude. Turning towards the gate in the compound, Celestina caught my eye and signalled, through hand gestures, her thanks from her heart, for what I was doing for her husband. It was on the second day of our trip to the lake that we heard the news. The chief had died. It had been decided to take him to a traditional healer in another area. He died on the border of his land. More than a thousand people, including Glenn and Colleen, attended the funeral. Glenn was invited to join the family in a privileged position with the coffin on the open pickup. After a funeral lasting five hours in the baking sun, the chief was finally laid to rest in the village graveyard. I felt that I didn’t want to leave Malawi without paying my respects. On our last day I returned to find the village was deserted; so was the chief’s compound except for Celestina and the Chief’s Mother who were sitting together on a reed mat, under the same tree where we had last seen the chief. We exchanged formal greetings, and I spoke first to Celestina about her husband and how I felt about him. I appreciated the trust he had in me, which had built a bridge between our two cultures. I added that I would like to return to the village to learn, and also to contribute further. The Chief’s mother, dignified in her grief, acknowledged me and accepted my words of sadness at her son’s death. Glenn and I said polite goodbyes to the two ladies and left the compound, leaving them to their solitary mourning. With crop failures and famine in Africa featuring in our news on a daily basis, Malawi and the warmth of the people who smile through their poverty are with us each day in our hearts. We will never forget the smile of a Chief who, just days from death, built bridges between cultures. For further information about Waveform please visit www.waveformenergetics.com

Michael Standing Wolf

Do you have a problem which you lack intuition to solve? Do you have any questions about the future to which you seek answers? Native American Michael Standing Wolf will use his Spirit Stones and psychic Dave Brennan will consult the Twist of Fate cards to offer a fresh view on matters.

I’m standing still I feel like my life has been standing still for the past few years. Sometimes I lack confidence to go for things, but when I do try and change my situation things seem to come to a dead end. Is it something that I am supposed to go through, or do I need to try harder? Tracy,Liverpool

Am I ‘cut out’ as a Stonemason? I am a 20 year old Libran female, and recently I’ve been thinking about quitting Art college and becoming a stone cutter’s apprentice. I’m not sure if it’s the right choice for me, perhaps I just want to do it to help out my family. Things aren’t going too well financially and I’m the eldest of three children. Please help? Lesley, Ireland.

Michael Standing Wolf's Spirit Stone reading: The Rabbit, the Ant. Rabbit medicine is about having a negative outlook and thereby making bad things happen because we never had any confidence anyway. Indians sometimes call this “fear-calling”. Okay, so that’s the problem - Ant is the solution. It’s an industrious and determined insect that knows what it wants and goes for it. What you need to do, Tracy, is ditch the Rabbit for the Ant. Failure is not an option: good things WILL come. You won’t always succeed, but believe the best will happen and it will! David Brennan’s Twist of Fate: 8 of Spades; 9 of Diamonds; 2 of Diamonds; Queen of Hearts; Jack of Clubs; 7 of Clubs; Jack of Hearts. Tracy, it is important that you don’t set yourself a timetable. Yes, you will have to work hard, but we all have to! I can see some advice coming your way regarding a promise that was made some time ago. I can also see a gift from a mother figure. You have a lot of earthly and spiritual support! I don’t believe you are destined to be unhappy, but I think that you do: creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. Move forward in your life with confidence and things will work out.

Michael Standing Wolf's Spirit Stone reading: The Tipi, the Eagle You have three priorities now; your love of art, your desire to help your family and your option to become a stone-cutter. Do you really need to sacrifice one to succeed at the others? The Tipi is indicating that your desire to help family finances is laudable. However, the Eagle wants you to see the bigger picture. What type of stone-cutting is it? Is it artistic enough? Can you rearrange times you attend college? Take a deep breath, decide what you want and then let the eagle take you there.

Dave Brennan’s Twist of Fate: 2 of Spades; King of Hearts; Ace of Diamonds; 9 of Clubs; 8 of Spades; 9 of Spades; Queen of Spades; 10 of Hearts. This is a real conundrum: self or family? From the cards, I suspect you may be able to satisfy both! How is Art college? I think you may be feeling dissatisfied, which is part of the reason you are asking for help. You need to look at this problem in a different light: ask yourself how you can study and help your family too. I suspect that the situation may not be as black and white as you perceive. I also think that you have support from a male member of the family regardless. Take a deep breath before you make a choice as the situation may not be the way you think it is.

Help me to help I've been in the same job in the finance industry for 12 years. Over the last few years I had 2 extremely bad experiences with managers at work, which led to a major episode of depression. I have since taken exams in depression & stress management, counselling and healing, but don't know what to do next. I'm still in the same job but would love to change careers to help others, is there any chance of this happening in the near future, or anything else I can do? Caroline Jones, Fife

I want to share my life Hi, my name is Helene, and I’m 40 years old. For the last 10 years I have been single, with no romantic or physical situations whatsoever during that time. I’m lively and outgoing, have lots of interests and hobbies, but the loneliness of not having someone special is crushing, and breaking my heart. I don’t want to be alone...I want to find my soul mate. Can you see if there will be someone for me? Someone where I’m not 2nd choice …? Helene, Harrogate

Is there someone special for me? Will I ever find that special person to love me, because of my life style? Ryan Tomlin, area not given

Michael Standing Wolf’s Spirit Stone reading: The Coyote, the Feather Coyote wants you to examine your motives for involving yourself in the subjects you’ve studied. It is no coincidence that they all touch upon your own experiences, and your studies reflect the negative experiences you’ve endured. Feather indicates that you may have genuine healing abilities and you may well be able to help others who’ve gone through hard times too. Someone once told me that when a person asks whether they should change careers they’ve already answered their own question in the affirmative. Finance is all about figures and is unlikely to provide an environment in which your spirit can breathe. Can you change? Yes, but only you can make it happen. Go for it. Even if it doesn’t work out then you can live content in the knowledge that you gave it your best shot.

Dave Brennan’s Twist of Fate Reading: Cards Chosen: 2 of Clubs; 9 of Clubs; King of Clubs; 10 of Spades; 9 of Hearts; Ace of Diamonds; Jack of Damonds; 9 of Diamonds. The first thing that I see for you is success! It is clear to me from the cards that you have everything on your side to move forward. I can see a friend who may help you or even work with you and I believe you may do well if you start your own centre. The cards have clearly illustrated the unhappy situation in your present job, where you do not seem to be valued. However, it does look as if any injustice will be rectified one way or the other. I can see money coming towards you and this may well be a help with your ambitions so use it well. Go for it, I believe you have everything working for you. Michael Standing Wolf’s Spirit Stone reading: The Snake, the Woodpecker Snake paints you as a person who loves to join groups, but does things your own way. Woodpecker portrays you as industrious and able to take guidance, but only from those you admire. I am told that a world-renowned teacher is looking down upon you and urges you to return to the path he once showed you. This means little to me, but I believe it may mean something to you. Yes, it may very well be that motherhood is unlikely now, but there is no reason why you can’t find a loving partner and enjoy a long-lasting relationship. Like the woodpecker, work hard. Actively pursue a loving relationship instead of waiting for one to turn up on the doorstep. Walk in peace, and allow your life to follow its natural course. Dave Brennan’s Twist of Fate Reading Cards Chosen: 2 of Hearts; 8 of Diamonds; Jack of Spades; King of Hearts; 7 of Clubs; 10 of Clubs; 8 of Hearts; Ace of Clubs; Jack of Clubs When I first look at the cards that have come up for you I can clearly see the disappointment and hurt that is in your past. I can also see a father-figure here, I believe it is a man in spirit that is around you and supporting you, so you do have someone there who cares, even if you are not aware of him. When I look at the future I can see a friend bringing information to you that may well lead you towards a special person. I can also see a man in your future, he is slightly younger, trustworthy and friendly. You may have to make the first move to get this relationship going, but he is worth the effort, so please do! Michael Standing Wolf's Spirit Stone reading: The Coyote, the Magpie Let me turn the question around: “Because of your lifestyle you will find someone to love you”. Coyote tells me that you are unconventional in some ways but maybe a little stubborn. To be honest, I don’t think becoming more “ordinary” would help you find a partner and I’m not sure you could pretend to be someone you’re not. The Magpie asks you to turn things around by seeing your lifestyle as an advantage. Someone out there sees the world through eyes very similar to yours. Go find them and let the good times roll. Magpie also gives a warning: some aspects of your life seem to have a hefty “shockability quotient”, so don’t be different just for the sake of it. You may end up frightening off the person who would make you an ideal partner! David Brennan’s Twist of Fate Reading: Cards Chosen: 2 of Hearts; 7 of Spades; 10 of Diamonds; Jack of Spades; 2 of Diamonds; Queen of Diamonds; 2 of Hearts; 10 of Hearts; 9 of Hearts. From the cards that indicate your past, I see frustration in a previous relationship, where the person concerned may still be in the background. There is also the suggestion that you have your eye on somebody now, this lady would be smart: wellgroomed. I think that the lesson here is not to judge a book by its cover, that applies to people who meet you, as well as people you meet. The right people are drawn to us if we are true to who we are. I do see success for you, so bear in mind that you will attract the right relationship when you are comfortable with yourself.

Carol Stirling guides us through Phrenology … the art of reading heads!

W

hen working with people’s heads, I have noticed that everyone has a different bump or lump and certainly everyone has a different head. Phrenology, the Greek word for the mind, is also the name given to the study of heads. From reading the bumps and lumps on people’s heads, you can get to know the character of a person. I feel that body shapes tell our “story of life” and the body’s “vibrations” show what we are and when we are lying. It is only when you look to see it that you will notice. Understanding the mind is not as easy as it seems, as the influences of the mind will always vary. We all know, for instance, that a man shaking could be that he is cold. However, it could be that he is be nervous because he is in a room filled with women! It can be fun to experiment with this technique with your friends and partners to see what you get from it. Remember to see it purely as fun until you feel your intuition guides you with the meanings. You will probably find, as I have, that it will help you to get to know a person a lot better! How to read the head Ask you client to sit on a chair and stand behind them, explaining to them that you are going to be touching them only on their head. Making sure you have their consent and ask them to tell you to stop if they feel uncomfortable. Place your hands at the base of the head and at the top of the neck. Using the palms of your fingers, slide them slowly towards the top of crown and

spread them out slightly, so that you are covering as much of the scalp as possible. As you move around the scalp number the areas in your mind so you know the position and meaning of an area. Closing your eyes allows you to feel more. When you feel dips or hollow parts, you know this area is lacking in the area covered by the number chart. For instance, they may have a natural dip in position 13. From the number chart, you

suggest that the number indicated on the chart is likely to have been affected emotionally in the past. Like all scars, we learn to live with it, deal with it and accept. It may take lots of practice to become a master at this unusual character analysis technique, I was lucky to be working with heads and massaging them through my chosen career at the time.

can see that this section related to selfesteem, so you would know that the person needs more confidence in themselves. If they had a lump in the same position it would also mean that they would have a lack of self-esteem, but would overcompensate, so may come across as arrogant. Sometimes people have scars, which creates a bump on the scalp. Scars

Try out head reading using the chart above and the meanings listed opposite. You may find it easiest to take notes of what you find and then compare them to the chart. Allow your own intuition to guide you and practise often a sure way of becoming adept at any divination technique or spiritual skill. Have fun and get to know your friends, it will help you in your relationships!

Vision 16

Staring into a fire is an almost primeval desire. It is also a method for divining the future. Natasha Koncewicz tells us how

W

ho doesn’t get mesmerised by a campfire or candle flame? Fire calls to that timeless part of ourselves and reminds us of strength, vitality and passion. Some people even define the human soul as a divine ‘spark’ or ‘flame’. It is no wonder then that we are so attracted to this element! The art of pyromancy is one of the oldest forms of divination, and has been practised down the ages by priests, priestesses, witches, and lay people alike as a serious form of divination, as well as entertainment. The word itself comes from the Greek ‘Pyros’ meaning ‘fire’ and ‘Manteia’ meaning divination. The commonest form of pyromancy in ancient times was extispicy, which involved the burning of a sacrifice. If the sacrifice burnt quickly, the omens were good. If it burnt with black smoke then the future was black! With pyromancy, unlike Tarot or Runes, there is little structure, there are no ‘spreads’ or detailed rules and meanings to learn first. As such, it can be practised relatively quickly. However, because it is often difficult for us in this day and age to trust our intuition, it can seem harder than it actually is. In modern times, pyromancy is often mistaken as being a rather basic

32 Vision 16

form of divination, useful only for ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions at best. This is not true as it can be as versatile as a Tarot reading. While pyromancy can be done using a number of methods, perhaps the most convenient is a simple candle. Any type of candle will do, although beeswax gives the best results. Also bear in mind that a candle should only be used once. In order to use a candle for divination, you should first ‘charge’ the candle with your question. You will find that a charged candle will be more ‘talkative’ than a blank one, so it pays to spend some time on this process. It is also possible to use specific coloured candles, multiple candles or other tools (such as cards, pendulums or crystals) as part of your reading.

Pyromancy in Magic In candle magic we choose an appropriate coloured candle, inscribe relevant symbols on it, maybe even use significant herbs and then charge it with the right energy for the purpose intended. When we light that candle we are releasing that energy to do its work and more often than not, we consider the magic (or at least our part in it) to be complete when we have done this. Considering that most magic users are encouraged to record a scientific account of their spell work in their Book of Shadows, including what they used, when they did it and the result, it seems logical that pyromancy should be part of that process. By taking some time to study your spell candle not only can you use the experience to gain useful insights into the effectiveness of your magic, the flame can also give clues as to any further magic that might be required.

One final note. Fire, and the Salamanders that live within it, should be respected. Fire is a creative force but it can also be destructive.

Forms of Pyromancy Causinomancy: Interpreting the reaction of objects placed in fire. Lychnomancy: Interpreting drops of candle wax as it cools in water. Lampadomancy: Reading candles, lamps and torches by focusing on the flame. Capnomancy: Interpretation of smoke; especially from sacred fires. Libanomancy: Reading burning incense.

Beginning Pyromancy You will need: 2 Candles Pen and paper Leave one candle ‘blank’ while charging the other with some simple intention, such as healing. (To charge the candle, simply hold it in your dominant hand while concentrating on the intention you want to place in the candle). First, light the blank candle and watch it for up to ten minutes. Then make some notes on what you saw and try to make some interpretation. (Don’t worry if you can’t think of anything!) Next, do the same with the charged candle, keeping in mind the energy you put into it. Again, make some notes and compare your findings. 1) How do your notes differ or match? 2) How do your interpretations compare to the meanings below/overleaf? Don’t forget to practice and you will soon see how the flames speak to you. Be careful and respectful of fire and it will serve you well …

Here are some of the basic meanings to get you started but you can also develop your own:

Split Tip: This shows that two possible choices are available. Usually one part of the flame will overreach the other and this will be the best or most successful course of action.

Thin Flame: This shows a period of introversion and a reluctance to interact with the world around us.

Green: Green usually appears in the inner flame and indicates growth, healing, illness, envy or money.

Pulsing/Swaying: Horizontal swaying means indecision or hard choices. Vertical means ambition, vision and tenacity.

Energy Waves: These look like heat haze wafting through the flame from one side to the other and represent change and renewal.

Blue: Blue usually appears at the base near the wick. It reflects Protection, Communication, Peace, Knowledge, Coldness and containment.

Twin Flame/Shadow: This represents partnerships and support, a need for healing or relevant past lives.

Foreign Objects: These can appear within the flame or in the aura that surrounds it and indicate the presence of angels or spirit guides.

Purple: Purple is indicative of spiritual wisdom and psychic abilities. Where the colours appear on the flame can also important. If they appear at the tip this shows thoughts, at the base near the wick shows actions. To the left is future to the right is past.

I sit and wait Does an angel contemplate my fate? And do they know the places where we go when we´re grey and old? Cos I´ve been told that salvation lets their wings unfold So when I’m lying in my bed, Thoughts running through my head And I feel the love is dead I’m loving Angels instead Excerpt from Angels Robbie Williams/Guy Chambers

I

’m sure that everyone must have heard Robbie Williams singing Angels, a haunting and touching song that combines sadness and hope in an oh-so-human way. It is hard to imagine that he could write such a truly magical song without having some interest in the spiritual. Little surprise, therefore, to find out that Robbie Williams does indeed have another dimension to his famous personality. Angels he may well believe in, but Robbie is also a spectre-spotter! Did you know that Robbie has lived in a house that he claims was haunted and that he has seen the Spirit in question? While living in Beatle Ringo Starr’s old house in Los Angeles, Robbie had a brush with the supernatural. “When I moved out, the removal men wouldn’t go in because of the old lady sitting in the chair. “Ringo’s son, Zak Starkey, said to me: ‘I hear you’re in my old place,’ because his dad used to own it. “And he asked if I’d seen the children in the garden and the old lady.

34 Vision 16

Angel or devil, Robbie Williams is perhaps a bit of both. Take a walk on the spiritual side of the Robbie phenomenon!

“Well, I never saw the kids, but the old lady certainly kept cropping up.” This is not the only time that Robbie has met with Spirit, though. Apparently, he has a bit of a gift himself and has seen things before. “I think I have powers. I’ve seen things my sister’s dog jumping up at her feet when it had passed away years before. And I’m also quite spiritual, which helps me look after myself. I meditate every day, and I pray every morning and evening.” Rob says that he could also have become “a holistic man of medicine and spirituality” and his fascination with ghosts and the afterlife is a further extension of this. Apparently, one of his dreams is to be a TV psychic and possibly Needless to say, the Visionaries have his own TV channel, although he’d are happy to extend an invite to Robbie be happy to start on an established show to join them if he fancies investigating (the rumour mill says he’s a Most the paranormal from the sharp end of Haunted fan). the wedge! “I want to do a whole TV series Robbie also seems to be blessed on paranormal things. The good thing is, I’ve got a purpose now, whereas before my purpose was to go out and party.” So what is this purpose? Robbie has spoken to so many of the press for so many years, it is difficult to know where the truth starts and the quotes end. One thing that does seem to be on Robbie’s mind is women. Well, yes, but in this case “the” woman. “I’m currently in the mode of looking for Mrs. Williams, not Mrs. Right Now…” So form an orderly queue, ladies! There is yet another side to Robbie which doesn’t get as much publicity as it deserves. Vision thinks it’s about time that was rectified. Without doubt, Robbie is a very rich man. Rich does not automatically mean generous though, and it is easy enough to have a lot of money and sit on it. Not so with Robbie. He is firmly committed to his Stoke-on-Trent roots and has created his own charity called “Give it Sum”, where he helps all sorts of causes over North Staffordshire. The charity aims to improve local conditions and strengthen community life by giving money to the disadvantaged. Robbie has auctioned some of his own items (including platinum discs from his Take That days) and the handwritten lyrics to Angels raised over £27,000! Without doubt, there is more to Robbie than meets the eye. Uncovering the truth about him is not so easy. He says himself that he has not really ‘let anyone in’. “ ... I’m always having to justify why I haven’t kept in touch with anyone from the old days in Stoke-on-Trent, but I’m like that with anybody. I don’t let anybody in. I just rely on myself.” We do hope that if Robbie ever wants to let anyone in, he’ll consider Vision. Don’t forget our competition to win a fabulous luxury night out at Robbie’s Leeds concert! Who can you turn to when your pet goes missing? Pea Horsley believes that animal communicators are the new ‘last resort’. Find out how to communicate yourself!

A

nyone who has ever shared their life with an animal knows the special bond that exists between owner (guardian) and pet. The level of loving care offered to animals sometimes exceeds that given to people. Animals understand us and our feelings often better than ourselves, seeing the real person, both good and bad, but never judging. When a pet goes missing the helplessness felt can be overwhelming. Our minds prepare us for the worst and our focus is always on worst case scenarios. Who can you turn to when you find your animal friend missing? Once you have exhausted all the practical aspects of locating your companion, what is left? Animal lovers are discovering an alternative way to track down their missing pet and are turning to animal communicators to help. Animal communicators like myself connect with animals on a telepathic level using all our senses, including our intuition or gut feelings. Communication is experienced in the form of pictures, sensations and words. When I am attempting to locate a lost pet, I start by asking the guardian to stay calm and to focus on feeling positive. Animals are connected with us all the time and pick up on our feelings, so it is important that the guardian expresses emotions which can help the animal feel calm and loved. I often send the guardian my Heart2Heart visualization and ask them to do it every evening. A communicator will be able to say what they feel has happened to the animal and sometimes they can bring them home or locate where they are, so they can be found. Sometimes they know that an animal has passed over. It is hard to give someone this sort of upsetting news, but equally very rewarding to be able to pass on a message from their loved one. Animals are extremely

generous souls and like to reassure that they are safe in their new world. When I have received the animals’ photograph from the guardian I look into their eyes. I begin by visualizing a soft beam of white light from my heart to their heart. I also ask permission to speak with them. The animal is asked how they are feeling and if they are still in their physical body. I also ask if they can show me a picture of where they are and what they can see. Sometimes, they are able to play a video of their journey; from where they went missing to where they are now. Within the body it is sometimes possible to pick up physical feelings from the animal, which helps me understand whether they are injured or trapped. I will also sense how they are

feeling emotionally, such as whether they are scared or content. When an animal is content and happy it is quite often a sign that they have passed over. Before this sort of sad news is passed on to a client, an animal communicator must make sure that the guardian is certain they are connected with their animal. This is achieved by asking some practical questions which they can then validate. For instance, what do they like to eat? What’s their favourite toy? Where do they like to sleep? Who is their best friend? Once the information is confirmed by the guardian I gently explain why I feel their animal has passed over, along with any messages the animal wants to pass on. These messages are often a huge comfort to the owner.

Case Study 1: Hugo - the missing cat Hugo went missing 5 days before his guardian contacted me. When I began communication with Hugo, my body felt cold and I received a picture of him in a dark, empty, basement-type space. He showed me a dark green metal door and above his head, at the top of a wall, was a closed window with horizontal bars. Hugo explained that he had come into this basement from his own basement, but he couldn't get back. He said he was very close to home and that his guardian lived next door. The guardian explained the block next door was uninhabitated, so the basement was probably empty. She also recognized the description of the window. It took 4 more days to convince

the local authorities to allow this lady to have access to the basement next door and during this time I continued to reassure Hugo we knew where he was and would be coming to get him out. Finally, Hugo's guardian gained access to

the basement and was delighted to find him there, still alive, although somewhat dehydrated and grumpy. The basement was exactly as Hugo had described.

Case Study 2: Miniyo, the stolen dog Miniyo was stolen from his front garden and had already been missing a week when his guardians contacted me. They had never heard of animal communication, but were feeling so desperate they were willing to give anything a go. I needed them to calm down, so I asked them to focus on feelings of positivity and love for Hugo. Hugo played me a video of the route from his house to the place he was being kept, while his guardian on the other end of the phone walked it. He also gave me a picture of black metal railings. Hugo was able to let me know that the man who stole him wanted to give him back, but would hurt him rather than be found with him. There were posters up around the town and the theif was worried he would be caught. I felt I had to advise his guardians to ignore their desire to knock on the door to ask for Hugo. By now they believed in animal communication and trusted what I was saying. I advised them to poster the area with the message ‘No questions asked, simply return the dog or release him in to the street’. That evening they placed posters up at 7pm. By 9pm they had received a phone call, had collected Miniyo and he was safely back home.

W

ould you like to be able to connect with your animal and find him/her when lost? Here is a visualization to re-establish the loving connection between you and your animal friend.

Step 1

calm. Just like the beam of light from a lighthouse visualize a beam of white light, a beam of love, extending out from your heart to your animal’s heart. The animal will love you for this reassuring, calming gesture of love and feel stronger knowing you are still there for them.

Make sure you can have some undisturbed silence for the next 10 minutes. Get yourself comfortable in a chair with your feet on the floor, place your hands in your lap and close your eyes. Focus your attention on your breath. Don’t force it, breathe gently until you feel your breath slowing and your body becoming more relaxed.

Step 2 Imagine two doors in the top of your head. Open them, and allow a golden ray of light to enter the top of your head and feel it tingling down your spine, then down your legs and through your feet and into the earth. Feel this wonderful ray of warm golden light as it glides through your body. Repeat this slowly three times.

Step 3 Now drop your attention down to your heart and feel the huge amount of love you have for your animal. What does this love feel like? Think of some words to describe it. If it has a colour or a smell describe these too.

Step 4 Now shine a beacon of your love as a homing signal for your animal to connect to and use to feel loved and

Step 5 After a few minutes, slowly bring your attention back into the room. Gently open your eyes and wriggle your hands until you feel back in the present moment. This visualization can be repeated every evening last thing at night.

A final word Finally, should all of these ways fail to re-unite you with your pet; take heart that they felt your love for them whether in their physical body or now in Spirit. Animals, like people, do not die. Their soul continues and they also reincarnate. They may even choose to be with you again. Remember the time you had together and above all the truest emotion you share – love. You can find out more about Pea at her website on www.animalthoughts.com

What is Psychic Protection?

I What is Psychic Protection, how do we know if we need it - and how can we take steps to protect ourselves? Michelle Jones tells us how

n these enlightened days, lots of us are reaching out to develop our psychic potential; meditate; perform readings; therapies and healing; – the list is endless! However, with all this reaching out, we also need to consider how we protect ourselves from any negative or unwanted energy that may be floating about in the ether.

Psychic Attack and Psychic Vampires Malicious attack is thankfully rare, (see P41) but the ‘Psychic Vampire’ is relatively common. Before you reach for the garlic and crucifix however, this has nothing to do with thin, gothic types wearing big swirly cloaks!

We have all helped friends through the various ups and downs in their lives, by offering a sympathetic ear but how often have you felt utterly drained afterwards? There are many examples of people who may subconsciously drain your energy, from the overbearing boss or playground bully to friends and relatives experiencing hard times or even strangers that we may deal with in our daily lives. At this stage I want to shout don’t panic! Although this all may sound a bit Star Trek, you must remember that you have been dealing with all these energies since the day you were born. We all have inbuilt filters which enable us to deal with most of it. If you carry out a basic protection routine which need not be complicated - after all who has time for that - you can help to keep out the unwanted stuff and concentrate on encouraging the good stuff.

Protection Exercise – The Bubble Shield This is most effective if you take time to ‘set it up’ properly the first time you do it. I tend to think in terms of computers – any new software must be installed properly in order for it to work properly. Once this has been set up, you can just ‘boot up’ the bubble! In your mind’s eye, visualise yourself standing still with a beautiful light above your head. This light will then spread down towards you, rolling down over your body, forming a bubble of protective light. The leading edge is sparkling with rainbow energy as it covers your head, neck, chest, thighs, knees, ankles and feet. As it passes your feet, it will go underground, joining up with itself to form a perfect egg shaped bubble of rainbow light.

40 Vision 16

Stay within the light for as long as you feel you need to, then when you come back to the room, sit quietly for a moment and have a glass of water to ground yourself. Once you are comfortable with the idea of a basic shield, you can tweak it in all sorts of imaginative ways to find what works best for you, changing the colour of the light, or the shape of the shield. One of my favourites is a hooded cloak of deep, night-sky velvet, covered in stars…

Angels, Guardians and Guides

Mirrors

We can also use a variety of objects to enhance our efforts. Whatever the object you choose, you need to ‘programme’ it by holding it in your hands and mentally

Visualising mirrors to reflect negative energy away from you is another effective method of protection – however, I also

The Astral Beings and Spirit People who watch over us can boost our protection at a higher spiritual level – but we do need to ask them! It does not matter if you do not know who your guides are; and you do not need to use any flowery language, just a heartfelt request for them to keep you safe is all that is needed.

Talismans, Amulets, Lucky Charms and Crystals

Psychic Protection is a useful tool that ... “can enhance your psychic development ” ask the angels to safely neutralize and dispose of the energy; ensuring that it cannot affect anyone else – including the sender. I do not believe that we should direct negative energy at anyone – even if they sent it to you first!

The Importance of Grounding Grounding ourselves is a vital part of protection that sometimes gets missed. Think of it like this; if you are ‘out of your head’ floating somewhere in the astral realms, your body may be vulnerable to other energies! Two effective methods of grounding are: 1. When meditating, visualise roots growing from the soles of your feet, reaching deep into the earth. 2. For all other ‘Psychic’ activities and for day to day grounding, you could use an infinitely long electric lead that plugs in to the earth’s core. Mine has a three pin plug on the end, and sometimes an offshoot with a vacuum cleaner nozzle for sucking up and safely earthing any negative energy!

asking it to protect you. It is essential to be focussed when you do this, and in order for it to be most effective, keep that object just for protection and do not use it for anything else. There are many Psychic Protection Crystals including Obsidian (all types), Turquoise, Black Tourmaline, Rutilated and Smoky Quartz, Amethyst and Tiger’s Eye.

Therapists, Healers and Readers Anyone performing a service designed to increase well-being, will be interacting directly with the aura and energy of the person receiving the therapy or treatment. Tarot, Angel, Rune and other types of reader are linking in with the spiritual and psychic energy of the client in order to perform an accurate and relevant reading. All Therapists and Readers should prepare themselves by grounding and protecting themselves. When the session is finished, it is also important to ‘cut the ties’ between you and the client. Even with protection in place, you may still form ties or cords to your clients. By physically making a chopping motion

across your body, whilst asking that any cords between yourself and the client be cut, you ensure that you do not hold onto any of their energy. If you are doing treatments or readings at a fayre or other public place, this can be done very discreetly!

Paranormal Investigations and Spooky Stuff Since Most Haunted hit our screens a few years ago, there has been a huge increase in the number of groups offering Ghost Walks, Paranormal Investigations and all manner of other spooky services! If you are going on one of these – or if you are somewhere that feels uncomfortable, then you may want to protect yourself using the steps outlined above.

Psychic Attack If you feel that you are under some form of Psychic Attack, then in addition to the basic protection exercise and enlisting the help of your angels and guides, I would also suggest the following exercise. The ‘Rule of Three’ applies here – that on the third time of asking the request MUST be complied with. In a firm voice, either mentally or aloud state clearly – “Any energy, entities, spirits and astral beings within or interacting with any of my energies that are not working for my highest and best interests must leave now!” State this three times and on the third time be especially forceful. Then, ask Archangel Michael to ensure that you remain closed to these energies forever and for all time.

In Conclusion Psychic Protection is a useful tool that may improve your sense of well-being and focus, and can enhance your psychic development by helping you to stay grounded whilst reaching out for the stars…and that has to be a good thing surely! As a result, the superstitious beliefs of Africa are equally as diverse. Many of the superstitions still practiced around the world today are also present in modern day African society, as are many superstitions that are specific to Africa itself. As with many superstitions , African superstitions tend to ward off bad luck, or bring good fortune to the person affected by the omen. It is widely believed, both in Africa and several other countries, that an itchy right palm means that you will receive money while an itchy left palm means you will have to give money. Right and left have always had connections with right and wrong, good or evil: in fact the word sinister originates from the Latin word meaning left and as a result has been repeatedly connected with misfortune and evil in many superstitions.

It is believed that wizards created tokoloshes by taking a corpse, gouging out its eyes, cutting out its tongue and driving a hot rod down through its skull whereupon it shrinks to the size of a young child. By blowing magic powder into its mouth, it comes to life to serve its master. As a result of this folktale, beds in Africa are raised on bricks so that they are out of reach of the tokoloshe and knocks on the door during the night are never answered.

Intuitive astrologer, psychic and dream interpreter Samantha Hamilton continues Vision’s monthly alphabet round-up of the most common dream scenarios.

Common dreams beginning with the letter Quail A dream of eating quail or any game bird (pheasant, duck, pigeon) foretells an improvement in your living conditions. If you dream of hunting a quail, then you are in for a surprise. This will be favourable or unfavourable, depending on the success of your hunt - a good hunt suggests success, a poor hunt means failure. Quality To have a dream in which you worry about the quality of anything, suggests you are wasting time and avoiding making an important decision or change in your life. The dream is telling you to get on with it; further delay could lead to failure. Quantity A very large quantity of anything, such as a swarm of bees or a herd of antelope suggests you are feeling overwhelmed by your responsibilities. This is particularly true if the swarm is coming towards you or surrounding you. If a swarm is moving across your line of sight, it suggests that you feel frustrated and that life is passing you by. Quarrel In general, if you quarrel in a dream it suggests that you have been hiding your feelings about something. Often in a dream, your ‘opponent’ will voice opinions that your subconscious has developed, but that you haven’t picked up yet. It need not be a negative thing,

however. It can often signify love and romance. If you dream of quarreling with a stranger, it is more than likely that you will move house in a very short space of time. Quartz A lovely piece of quartz in a dream is, against all logic, a warning to be extra cautious concerning any business with friends. Quartz is a reminder of the fragility of friendship and that all that glisters may not be gold, so think carefully before mixing business with pleasure if quartz appears in your dream. Question To ask questions in a dream is an omen of general good luck and a positive outlook. It reflects the basic optimism that you will be feeling. On the other hand, to be questioned by another, particularly if you feel that your answers are not believed or even that you do not know the answers, forecasts health problems and a general lack of confidence in the future. Quicksand Falling into quicksand and sinking further, no matter how you struggle, is unfortunately a very strong warning. Prying into the personal affairs of others could very well end up giving you the same feeling you had when you dreamt you were in that quicksand. Rescuing a person from quicksand suggests that you have important information and must use it for the good of others.

‘Q’ Quiet It can be very serious if you dream without sound. It suggests that you are suppressing something that you have heard and are refusing to face a situation that you find too daunting to deal with. It may even suggest that you are suffering from mild shock. A silent dream is a wake up call and a recommendation that you should seek help, if you cannot face this issue on your own. Quilt To dream of relaxing, safe and warm in a luxurious down quilt, is a good omen, promising material success in the very near future. If you dream of a traditional patchwork quilt, then your future holds great happiness at home and in your domestic arrangements. If you dream of making a quilt, then a business venture will go well and you should move ahead with renewed confidence. Quiver A dream in which you were aware of the quivering or shaking of a person or animal, tells me that you are subconsciously worried by some form of obsessive overindulgance, such as alcohol, shopping, or gambling. This situation is even more serious if it is you who is quivering. If you can’t kick the habit on your own, get professional help. To dream of a quiver full of arrows is an indication that closer attention to detail will ensure that your aim is true and you meet your goals. Look out for things that you may have missed first time around.

Niki Senior remembers dramatic and disturbing happenings ... created by a dead bigamist!

W

hen Niki Senior and her partner Lewis bought an old Victorian cottage with the dream of restoring it to its former glory, they had no idea that their dream would become a nightmare. It was not until they started to work on the restoration that they realised that sudden strange happenings were more than just coincidence.

were dozens of orbs in the photographs. We didn’t think much more of it, but when we tried to relax in the evening, we could see with our own eyes little spheres in the corners of the living room. We could see them bouncing off doors and dancing around. We also noticed that our cats often seemed to be ‘chatting’ to someone at the top of the stairs. “Neither of us are strangers to this sort of thing. However, we did try to explain things away, rather than assume they were supernatural. I believe that there is an explanation (for strange happenings) 99% of the time.”

Niki takes up the story:

Needless to say, the story didn’t end with an odd atmosphere and a few photographs (see right). Niki and her partner ran the gamut of ghostly goings-on before they really acted.

“In March 2002 my Fiancé and I purchased a Victorian cottage in a friendly Sheffield village. The property was part of a deceased estate and in need of full renovation. We were on a budget, so we decided to do most of the work ourselves. “As a kitchen is essential and the cottage didn’t have one, we decided to start on that and to photograph each stage of our work. In some ways, it was a good thing that we did! “Things were going well until we began to knock down a wall in the space that would be our kitchen. We both started to feel as if we were being watched, but we couldn’t explain our uneasiness. The atmosphere started to change and it became very humid. “We downloaded the photos we had been taking and noticed that there

“The odd occurrences in the house started to get progressively worse. On numerous occasions we could hear footsteps and a heavy breathing sound. This was then followed by a wailing sound of “nooooooooooo!” in a deep male voice. If we went to investigate where the noises came from, we couldn’t see anything except a thick fog-like mist that was ‘sticky’ and visible to the eye. We felt cold spots everywhere and

44 Vision 16

came down to the kitchen many mornings only to find broken mirrors and smashed drinking glasses on the floor, just like the stories I’ve read about poltergeist activity. “One night we were woken to find that the kitchen ceiling had fallen in – all lath and plaster had just totally collapsed and we couldn’t understand why. The lights and electricity failed despite the house having been rewired and the electricity supplier couldn’t explain it. “On another occasion we went to hang a picture on the living room wall. The whole wall collapsed to the floor in once piece, complete with wallpaper! We had two major floods in the kitchen and the plumber and his mate couldn’t

understand them. They were becoming a bit nervous as well! “The plumbers got to a stage where they wouldn’t let me leave them alone in the house. Their tools had been

We could hear footsteps and a heavy breathing sound.

going missing all the time – on one occasion we found a monkey wrench on the top of my car which was parked down the lane! When they made tea and put down the cups ready to drink, they would turn around and the tea and cups would be gone!”

So what finally tipped the balance and made Niki act? “We did try to pass things off at the beginning, but when the occurrences started to interfere with visits from friends and parents, I had had enough. I decided to look into why these things were happening from a spiritual perspective, to see what I could uncover.

“Some friends had come for dinner and I noticed that they became very uneasy and wanted to make a quick exit after the lady had been to the loo. It was when I rang her the day after to ask her if she was ok, that she admitted she had had an ‘horrible experience’ on my landing. “Strange as it was I could have lived with the problems, they were disturbing, but I believe we are more powerful than Spirit as we are still within the body, Spirits are just spirits and we can deal with them if they are troublesome. After my friends were scared off I was angry and upset. Not only that, but the inexplicable disasters to our renovation was severely upsetting our budget. “ I did a little digging and found out that the lady who died in our house had an estranged husband with a ‘shady’ past. He was living a double life and was married to two women at the same time. He was a bigamist! “We are both adept at space clearing so worked to find out who the spirit was and why they were here. It transpired that it was the husband that had been haunting us. He had come looking for his wife to say sorry for his actions in the past. He couldn’t understand why ‘we’ were in his house! “We explained that his wife was safely in Spirit and we helped him to pass over and find peace.” Niki and Lewis found that their budget had been entirely blown by the activities of the distraught husband. The increased renovation costs more than doubled their original estimations. The house was certainly settled and peaceful after they had helped the spirit move on; and they are still doing spirit clearings for others. Niki told us of a recent case that proved to be very interesting, as well as a bit harder than most! “Last October (2005) we went to Wales to do a clearance at an old farm

house. The people were ex-police, but had decided that they wanted to live a holistic life. They were also vegetarian. “They had been experiencing considerable paranormal disturbance and wanted our help to sort it out. When we got there we discovered that the Spirit that was troubling them was a farmer

who had lived there. He really did not like them … because they didn’t eat meat! “Pans would fly out of the cupboard and across the room. One pan actually flew at their dog’s head and left a dint. He had to have stitches. I saw bags of flour and cous cous empty themselves in front of me. “It took us three attempts in total to persuade the farmer to go. He actually slaughtered his animals on the spot that was their kitchen, which explains the huge amount of activity there, as he could not understand vegetarians!” Niki and Lewis now live in another house which does not have any paranormal problems. However, it is unlikely they will ever forget the happenings in Sheffield for a long time to come! In the fourth of our collectible series, Andy Norman demonstrates ‘ball holding’ Qi Gong 1. Assume the Standing Pole position, stand naturally, feet shoulder width apart with your arms down by your sides, leave a slight gap under your armpits. Relax your ankles and your knees, hips, spine and neck, keeping you head vertical. Curl your tongue back and touch the roof of your mouth to produce saliva, which should be swallowed on the out breath. This will keep your throat moist.

2. Breathe in and out smoothly and naturally: in through the nose, out through the mouth.

3. After your next breath out, breathe in and raise your arms from your sides out and up to shoulder height, palms down. Keep your shoulders relaxed and your knees bent naturally as you raise your arms. Your upper body should be relaxed onto your waist.

4. Breathe out, turn your palms forward and bring your palms together in front of you at shoulder height, gently reaching forward.

5. Breathe in, bring your palms towards your body with slight pressure and push your palms together concentrating on the centre of your palms. (The Laogong point).

6. Breathe out, keeping your middle fingers touching, push your palms out and extend your palms away from you at the front.

7. Separate your arms and let them come back at shoulder height completing your out breath. Palms should be facing back.

8. Breathe in, draw your palms in towards you in front of your shoulders turn palms facing away from you. Breathe out and extend your palms out in front of you until they are nearly fully extended. Keep soft joints at the elbows.

9. Breathe in, drop your elbows, let your palms turn in, position them as if holding a pot or a tree.

10. Breathe out, keeping your feet in the same position. Turn your body to the left rotating your waist, not just your upper body. Try not to let the shape of your arms distort as you turn.

11. Breathe in. Turn back round to face front as before and settle.

12. Breathe out. Turn your body to the right rotating your waist, not just your upper body.

13. Breathe in and turn back round to face the front and settle.

14. Breathe out, let your palms bend back at your wrists, fingers pointing down. Thumbs should be forward with the palm centres on your kidneys. Gently massage downwards. Continue the downward movement rotating your thumbs outward and backward, letting your thumb separate from your index finger. Feel the gentle stretch of the web of skin between as you open the Fu Jow (Tiger’s mouth) point.

15. Breathe in raising your arms by your sides and stretching back and up (keep your knees bent) bringing palms above crown (Bei Huei)

16. Remember those poles we spoke about in a previous issue, breathe out and push these imaginary poles down through the crown, body, legs and feet through the Yong Quan point into the ground. Relax and let your palms return to your sides. Repeat another 7 times.

Carole Chui introduces us to the Solar Plexus Chakra and its correspondences in the third part of our collectible series The Solar Plexus Chakra (sometimes called the Manipura Chakra)

Position and function The third chakra is found just below the naval, between the 12th thoracic and the first lumbar vertebrae. As with the heart chakra, it deals with emotion. The solar plexus chakra is the key to our feelings of personal power. It is the key to our self worth and the engine that drives our will.

Colour The colour is Yellow, and although yellow is often thought of as intellectual, it is perhaps better to think of the blazing yellow of the sun. It is the colour of your personal sun, your centre, your solar system.

Glands and Organs The liver, spleen, gall bladder, stomach, small intestine and pancreas are connected with this chakra. The pancreas secretes hormones that regulate blood sugar in the body and deals with enzymes to break down food.

Crystals Crystals in sympathy with this chakra are citrine, yellow topaz, amber and malachite. Citrine is a balancing stone, good for confidence as well as digestion. Yellow Topaz brings optimism and renews faith in oneself. Amber, is a fossilised resin. Amber brings healing and assists the throat chakra. Malachite strengthens the liver and aids travel sickness.

50 Vision 16

Is your Chakra Healthy? When this chakra is open and balanced, we are empowered and confident. With my aura video station I have noticed that when the solar plexus chakra is closed and low in energy the person feels powerless. This may be because over a period of time an uninspiring job or a nagging partner or parent has worn them down. However, it may be traumatic. The chakra may still be closed because of that. Problems with this chakra may emerge on the physical level. Various short term digestive upsets may be caused, but there are also long term imbalances, such as liver problems, gall stones, diabetes or eating disorders. One theory of anorexia is that it is, in its own way, taking control over the only part of life available. It is a destructive form of asserting one’s personal power.

Helping your Solar Plexus Chakra It is better to work within the balanced framework of all 7 chakras. If you have been following this series, you can continue the meditation given earlier in the series, just move up to the Solar Plexus to include it as well. The colour to visualise is a clear sunny yellow and if

you want to use an affirmation, the affirmation is “I assert my personal power”. If you know this chakra really needs special attention, then I have some suggestions for you. Find somewhere safe and quiet, where you won’t be disturbed, and sit or lie comfortably. Concentrate on the area just below your navel. If it helps, place one of the appropriate crystals there. Allow a picture of your personal power to come to you in golden light. Is it a golden lion, or lioness? Is it simply a glowing sun? Let us suppose it is a lion. Envisage your lion. Is it like lions we used to see in the zoos and even circuses understandably a bit sorry for itself, a bit moth-eaten? If so, bathe it in golden light and speak to it words of encouragement. Reach out to it in any way you can. See it grow in confidence and begin to radiate its own light. Let it roar – it won’t harm you because it is part of you. It is your glorious true will. So use as your affirmation “I recognise my true will” and let the lion’s golden glow warm and comfort you. Make your lion comfortable as it becomes small enough – without losing power – to fit within your solar plexus. Keep your lion healthy so you will be too!

Can you work with energy and heal? Can you feel the aura and sense the chakras? Here are some simple techniques to get you started.

I

n many of the articles we cover in Vision, you will hear about chakras and will read about ‘working with energy’. For those of you that have yet to be able to sense the auric field (the aura, our bioelectric energy field), we’d like to show you some techniques for being able to do so. The more adept you are at energy work, the better you will be at healing (of all types).

Sensing Energy

hand. Take it slowly. If you have got this right, you should feel as if your hand is passing through a curtain, or through treacle! You will naturally feel a warmth, you would do as a matter of course; we all generate body heat. However, you may feel that the warmth becomes pins and needles. This is your friend’s energy field. Once you are successful at being able to do this, swap. Work on this until your friend can feel you ‘send’ too! These

are the first steps in sensing energy. Learning to place your concentration in one area is also an excellent way of exercising your ability to ‘become aware’ – which means that you can shut out other distractions and concentrate on the less tangible – the psychic world. Learning to be able to focus your concentration is one of the first and most important steps to any psychic or spiritual development.

It is a scientific fact that our bodies create an energy field around us. Psychics call this field the Aura, which they say has more functions than science admits! Sensing energy around people is not that difficult: after all, the majority of us can tell if someone has had a blazing row without having heard them … the atmosphere is thick with it and this energy is projected out of the people having the argument. Try this simple experiment to see if you can feel energy. You will need a friend to help you. 1. Get your friend to stand facing you, with their hands out in front of them, comfortably apart. 2. Ask your friend to imagine that, within their hands, they have a reserve of energy. This energy looks like white fire and will come out of their hands in lines from fingertip to fingertip and palm to palm. Ask them to concentrate strongly, and to increase their visualisation by imagining a pillar of this energy entering their body through the top of their head and running down their neck and shoulders and into their hands and fingers, finally coming out of their fingertips and palms. 3. When your friend believes that they have got the image strongly in their minds, tell them to ‘send’ the energy. 4. When they have done this, pass your hand vertically between theirs, concentrating fully on the feelings in your

51 Vision 16

Sensing the Aura Now you’ve learnt the basic technique for sensing energy in a localised area, you can extend your new skills to the whole aura. This can be an invaluable technique if you would like to learn any type of healing. Most complementary healing techniques will incorporate touch, although, contrary to popular belief, you do not have to physically touch your client to get a sense of how they feel! 1. Get your friend to help you with this experiment. Ask them to stand in front of you and relax as much as possible. 2. Stand in front of them and slowly move your hands toward them, concentrating on the feeling in your hands as you go. Do this a couple of times. Do you notice a point when the energy you are sensing, changes? You may feel a greater warmth, you may feel pins and needles start, or you may feel as if you are passing through some kind of invisible shield. It is at that crossover point that your friend’s aura begins: this technique will show you how far their aura extends. 3. Now ask your friend to imagine that there is a bright white beam of light coming in through their head. Tell them to imagine that this energy is cascading around them and creating a shield. Then tell them to imagine that the shield is growing. Get them to do this until they can clearly see the shield in their mind.

52 Vision 16

4. Now sense their aura. Has the crossover point extended out: is their aura bigger? Keep working on this until you can feel the change. Swap and see if you can do it too!

The Chakras Now you have practiced at sensing energy, you can work on sensing the chakras. If you are a regular reader, you will know that we are currently running a series on chakras, so you will have

reading material. Basically, there are said to be seven main chakras (sources vary, some will quote other numbers, but seven is generally accepted for starters). These are placed at your genitals; your spleen; your solar plexus; your heart; your throat; between your eyes and the crown of your head. It is believed that if you have a problem in mind, body or spirit; this will be reflected in your aura and particularly in your chakras.

This technique can help you to determine if any chakras are out of balance. See photo on P51. 1. You will need a pendulum, if you don’t have one you can use a ring suspended from a piece of cotton. You will also need either: some lighting gels (plastic brightly coloured square sheets) or some tissue paper, one gel or tissue for each of the seven chakra colours, which are: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and white. Ensure that the colours you get are really clear, do not use pastels or muddy colours.

2. Have your client sit in front of you and take some time ‘tuning’ in to them by concentrating on them and sensing their aura with your hand. Use your weakest hand for this.

strong swing, or does it fluctuate? If you find that the swing of the pendulum does not make a good strong circle, you can try to help your client regain the energy in that chakra.

3. Take your pendulum in your strongest hand and hold it over the red gel/tissue. While still ‘tuning in’ with your weakest hand, ask the pendulum to show you the swing and it’s trajectory with the pendulum. You will find that the pendulum will swing around. You need to look closely at the swing. Is it a full circle, or is it elliptical? Is it a good

4. As you tune in to your friend, imagine that you can see their chakra as a bright wheel in the colour it should be. Don’t imagine it muddy or pastel, make the colour strong. Now look at the swing of the pendulum and imagine that the chakra is moving in a good strong circle. Now ‘know’ that the pendulum will mirror the chakra as it improves. Watch as it adjusts and corrects. Once you can see a good strong swing on your pendulum, you will know that you have helped to correct the chakra. This technique really works at the simplest of levels – try it! Once you have mastered these techniques you will find that they will be invaluable to most types of psychic and spiritual working. Using and moving energy is a building-block technique that can help you progress in all types of healing too. Believe in the power that you have inherent within. Develop compassion for others, genuine kindness and caring will enhance your natural abilities when you deal with others. I am not aware of any healer that can operate without a genuine concern for their patients. Just remember that we are all connected in one way or the other. The bigger spiritual picture suggests that the connection is much closer than we think! Help another ... and help yourself!

hrough the ages, food has been tantalising particular senses with an array of sensuous reactions. Food has been thought to affect us by increasing sexual desire and been responsible for changing moods. The visual sight of appetising fare, the texture, the aroma and the taste have brought us to a state of ecstasy conducive to sexual expression. Food aphrodisiacs are agents that arouse sexual desire and stimulate sexual organs. In earlier times, perpetuation of life was an important

Bring out the Casanova in you Casanova consumed a combination of oysters, champagne and chocolate before his many conquests. Oysters have a high level of zinc, which is essential for the production of testosterone. Champagne expands the blood vessels which encourages amorous behaviour. Biochemists state that champagne acts upon certain areas of the brain by freeing inhibitions. Chocolate contains Phenylethylamine (PEA), a chemical the body produces when we fall in love. Chocolate contains central nervous system stimulants that increase ardour.

issue, stemming from religious and moral beliefs. Food aphrodisiacs were first sought out as a remedy for various sexual problems. Aphrodisiacs date back to at least 5000 years and are named after the ancient Greek Goddess of sexual love and beauty, Aphrodite. According to Greek mythology, Aphrodite emerged from the sea on an oyster shell. As the Goddess was born from sea foam, it was a belief that all types of seafood are aphrodisiac in nature. Appearance, attributes and elusiveness influenced ancient

civilisations’ perception of what foods could enhance desire The ancients were very astute in deducing the fundamental link between food and sex. Pistachio nuts, anise, basil, river snails, carrots, orchid bulbs, rocket, sage and sea fennel were some of the common ingredients used in their concoctions to increase libido. Chillies and spices were considered for their propensity to ‘heat’ the blood and other parts. A fancied resemblance to reproductive organs influenced the ancient’s perception of which foods were

Pesto sauce for pasta

A hearty soup

Combine equal quantities of fresh basil leaves, pine nuts and olive oil and grind to a paste. Add to your favourite sauce or serve on its own on top of pasta. Basil is considered a token of love by the Italians and dates back to Roman and Greek times. It also smells absolutely wonderful and is an instant reminder of heady, warm, Mediterranean nights. Pine nuts have been said to stimulate the libido since medieval times as they are very rich in zinc. They are linked to male potency, but will also work very well for women, too. Pasta itself is sexy to eat ... so you have all the ingredients you need!

This soup dates back to early Egyptian days of people using certain foods to attract someone to them. Stew for two hours the meat from the leg bone of a cow, thyme, garlic, onions, cayenne powder and greens of your choice. The effect on men were supposed to be immediate and long lasting. Cayenne is purported to be a stimulant, beef is known to increase libido. The humble onion is written about in ancient texts in Asia of being the supreme aphrodisiac in vegetables. Cooked garlic entices the food flavours and helps fire the flames of passion.

aphrodisiacs. The Aztecs called the avocado tree ‘Ahuacuati’ meaning the ‘testicle’ tree. The banana’s phallic shape gave rise to it being popular. Figs, oysters, clams, ginseng, celery and asparagus also joined that list for their appearance. Women in some tribes in Africa would rub a paste of red chillies on their breasts in the hope of attracting a man. Aphrodite was supposed to have included sparrows in her aphrodisiac brews because of their amorous nature. The Romans and Greeks used sparrows, the Chinese used snake blood and the English used potatoes. Montezuma, emperor of ancient Peru,

birthplace of the cocoa bean, drank 50 cups of chocolate a day in the hope of satisfying his huge harem of 600 women. The Aztecs associated their fertility Goddess, Xochiquetzal with chocolate. Legendary lover Casanova started his day

with four dozen oysters to keep his strength up. There was an underlying view that natural substances that were expensive or not easily available had

aphrodisiac properties: magickal produce only meant for the gods. Cleopatra seduced Mark Anthony by giving him a potion of pearls dissolved in vinegar. Lovers in ancient Persia favoured cocktails of crushed rubies, agate and gold dust. Modern sciences dictates that specific foods in specific quantities boost health. Some foods lower inhibitions, some get the blood flowing directly to the sex organs and some foods release feel good hormones. Try out the following food aphrodisiacs which have stood the test of time, and create your own stimulating combinations.

Strengthening porridge and honey

Fish forever

Almonds

Fish are natural aphrodisiac foods as they contain good fish oils that help with dilation and supply good fatty acids to the organs. Seafood is also very sexy, many seafoods have a great history of being used as aphrodisiacs (see ‘Bring out the Casanova in You on P54).

Almonds have been a symbol of fertility throughout the ages. The aroma is thought to induce passion in a woman but there are many men who are passionate about marzipan. Serve marzipan as an after dinner treat and wait … Amaretto is a liquer with an almond flavour, it will also work well as a romantic aperitif. The stomach certainly has a way with the heart. Whip up some exciting food fantasies in your own kitchen for flirtation and seduction, they will put you in the mood for love. Do let me know if you’ve found a favourite?

Food aphrodisiacs are agents that arouse sexual desire and stimulate sexual organs.

Oats are helpful for men as they have the right nutrients to ensure healthy reproductive organs. They are also good for overall stamina, which will work well for men and women. The ancient Egyptians used honey as a base ingredient in medicines to cure a flagging sex life. Honey gives an instant source of energy to working muscles and it’s stickysweet flavour and texture is both naughty and nice. Porridge does not have a sexy history - but it will give you the strength and stamina you need to create your own sexy history.

Mustard Mustard is believed to increase desire. Pour a mustard and peppercorn sauce over a veggie or meat cutlet and wait! Peppercorns are also linked with desire most spices are well-named: they make you feel spicy!

The Crystals and Minerals of Africa are equally diverse in their colours and type. In the north of Africa, in Morocco, you can find Gypsum, Desert Rose, Agate and many fossils. The mines of the Congo are often referred to as the Copper belt, where you can find such treasures as Malachite, Azurite, Cuprite and Chrysocolla. Madagascar is home to Celestite, Danburite, Spinels and Quartz Clusters. South Africa is home to the Kimberley mine, where the finest Diamonds in the world are found.

South Africa is built upon some of the richest mineral deposits in the whole world. In particular, South Africa has the largest deposit of Tiger’s Eye on the planet. Tiger’s Eye is formed through the oxidation of Crocidolite ( also known as blue Asbestos). Once oxidised, the Crocodilite becomes the very safe and friendly Limonite. It is the layers of Limonite with its distinctive colours that produce Tiger’s Eye. The silky sheen produced by the fibres of Limonite play with light and, when polished, Tiger’s

Eye’s true beauty becomes evident. The effect of light (also known as chatoyancy) upon the polished stone appears like an eye, which is where the name comes from. It is mainly because of Tiger’s Eye’s appearance that people thought that Tiger’s Eye could heal problems with the eyes and improve vision. In the middle Ages it was often used to make amulets that protect the wearer against spells, demons and the evil eye. This makes a lot of sense when we begin to learn about the properties of this wonderful mineral. As we become more confident we are less likely to be affected by outside influences. Everybody can do with a friendly word of encouragement, a nurturing hug or just some support from time to time. Like any good friend, Tiger’s Eye imparts all these gifts effortlessly. Tiger’s Eye is one of those stones that are invaluable when dealing with the surprises of life. Whatever the situation, Tiger’s Eye helps us to maintain a healthy detachment and a positive attitude. Tiger’s Eye combines the energies of the Sun and the Earth. Mentally, Tiger’s Eye brings clarity to our thought processes and inspires us to be more creative with our choices. Emotionally, Tiger’s Eye brings stability and creates a nurturing environment. Physically, Tiger’s Eye strengthens our bodies and allows energy to flow more efficiently. Tiger’s Eye works on the Root, Sacral and Solar Plexus Chakras. When these chakras are balanced we naturally feel more confident, grounded and centered. There are three different types of Tiger’s Eye. The golden Tiger’s Eye is the most common and is great for the solar plexus and promoting confidence and creating

mental clarity. Bull’s Eye is the red variety which creates stability and enhances our creativity. Falcon’s Eye is the blue variety and helps us to communicate in a confident manner. Tiger’s Eye is a very common mineral and is very easy to use and find. Tumbled stones are very easy to work with and can be carried around in your pockets or placed on the solar plexus, sacral and root chakras. Wearing Tiger’s Eye is an excellent way to work with its uplifting and supportive energies. It is

The Summerlands

H

ello Vision readers, we are now into the month of July, when the sun is warm and we all long to be outdoors rather than working inside. This is a good time to get outdoors and get to know the element of the south, which is fire. At this time of year the fire element is at its strongest, which is not surprising as fire is embodied by the Sun. The sun represents the qualities of destruction, masculinity and sexuality and is symbolic of the God. The element of fire can be used for purification, sex magick, healing, candle magick and hearth magick. Animals ruled by the fire element are the salamander, lion, snake, fire breathing dragons and the serpent. When thinking of doing spell work at this time of year, think about key words such as energy, activity, motivation, purification, heat, flames, lust, life, enthusiasm, passion, inspiration, transformation, vitality, leadership and willpower. If you are able to work with the times and tides of Nature you will find that your spells are even more effective. Good luck with your spell work!

58 Vision 16

At this time of year we really start to see the beauty of summer; verdant green pastures and lush leafy lanes; crops ripening in the fields; and hedgerows and gardens full of floral colour and aroma. If you read more about the Wiccan belief structure you will, without doubt, come across a reference to the Summerlands. The Summerlands is the name given to the afterlife as seen from a Wiccan point of view and is aptly named. Wiccans often perceive the Summerland as a wide and eternal field of rolling green hills and lush grass where we can reunite with our deceased loved ones that have gone before us (if you’ve seen the final scenes from the movie Gladiator, you’ll have a fair idea!). We can also reflect on the life we’ve just led and review the lessons we have learnt … and then try again! The lessons that we wish to learn are ours to choose. So, as you wander along paths dappled by the sun and the leaves of the trees, when you smell the flowers in the hedgerows and see life burgeoning and developing all around … spend a moment to reflect on those before you as you are likely to be closer to them in the summer of Nature than you will be in a graveyard. You may wish to leave an offering in their honour and memory at the base of the roots of a tree, or buried in the soft life-giving earth. Summer is the time and the place to remember with joy the lives of those you’ve loved and at Samhain in October, they will come to you.

Goddess of the month

Oshun also known as Oxum, Osun, Oshoun, Ochum. Oshum is the Yoruban Orisha (deity) of the fresh waters; she is well known and much loved. Oshun is known for healing the sick and bringing fertility and prosperity. She also watches over the poor and brings them what they need. She is represented as a beautiful and charming woman and is especially worshiped in Nigerian river towns. The number five is associated with Oshun as is the colour yellow or amber and the metals gold or bronze. The peacock and vulture are sacred to her. When asking for help from Oshun, offerings of sweet things like honey, sweets, pumpkins, white wine, oranges and perfume should be given. One of her titles is “the Goddess of luxury and love”.

This spell is to bless a new house or to remove negative energy. It can be used at any time of the month or year.

Ingredients: 1 x bottle spring water 1 x cup 1 x white candle 1 x stick of frankincense incense Pinch of salt 1.Pour the spring water into the cup until it is full; add the pinch of salt to the water. 2. Light your stick of incense. Place your hand, palm down just above the cup of water and repeat the following words “O, great Goddess Isis, I ask you to bless and consecrate this water and to fill it with your positive energy and vibration so that I may use this water to cleanse and bless this house. I thank you great Goddess”. 3. Now light the white candle and imagine the room filling with an intense bright light that shines in every corner dispelling any negativity and stale energy. 4. Take the cup and lightly sprinkle some of the consecrated water around the room being aware that as you do this you are spreading the Goddesses protective energy everywhere. Now say “I bless this room and free it of any negative energy, so it is done”.

Here are two recipes that you can use to create your very own protection incense. As well as incorporating ingredients that increase your psychic protection they smell wonderful and will enhance any spiritual work room.

Recipe 1: Ingredients 2 parts frankincense 1 part sandalwood 1 part rosemary 1. Crush the ingredients together in a mortar and pestle then ignite a charcoal block 2. Place in a fireproof container and sprinkle some of the incense onto the ignited charcoal block and allow to smoulder.

Recipe 2: Ingredients

6. When this is complete, take the candle back to the room you started in and allow it to burn down in a safe place.

4 parts frankincense 3 parts myrrh 2 parts juniper berries 1 part rosemary

7. If there is any water left, take it outside and sprinkle it onto Mother Earth, whilst thanking the Goddess Isis for her help.

Follow the instructions as above.

Witches’ Kitchen Chilli pepper. Gender: Masculine. Planet: Mars. Element: Fire. Powers: Fidelity, Love and Hex-Breaking. Magickal uses: If you feel your partner may be straying, purchase two large dried chilli peppers. Place one over the other making a cross, tie into place with a red ribbon, place this inside your pillow case to effect a result. Chilli pepper is also used in love charms or powders to ensure that your lovelife will be spicy. If you think you have been hexed, scatter chilli powder around your house to break the spell.

Paula Garton takes a look at the effect of the planets in July

L

ittle Mercury turns backwards again on the 4thJuly, creating communication problems. It does this three times a year, so it is an advantage if you know when this is happening. The reason is that during the retrograde phase we are supposed to take in information, digest it, think about it and formulate our plans and ideas, NOT tell others or act on our ideas and plans until it goes direct on the 29th. It can be very annoying when people don’t return your calls and emails get lost, letters disappear and your car breaks down, your shoes rebel and lose themselves, your teeth ache and you can’t get your words out properly. All good fun, just don’t buy a car, computer, printer, fax, shoes, go to the dentist or sign contracts when

62 Vision 16

Mercury is doing his thing. If you do, the goods won’t work properly and will have to be returned; your teeth will need filling again and contract details will be changed. This is a good time if you lose something as it will come back to you on the direct phase, so there’s always a positive if you look for it! Mercury starts going retrograde in Leo but by the 11th hops back into Cancer, so Cancerians wont be able to make a decision. This is a global problem: not just the UK that suffers. Leos are a bit tetchy this month with Mars in their sign until the 23rd. They will be all gusto and bravado wanting things done yesterday and spoiling for a fight. On the 25th the new Moon and Sun will move into Leo so they will need lots of paw-

stroking and attention to keep the them happy, especially in the family circle where they want security and comforts to allow a new beginning to unfold. With the asteroid/planet Chiron in Aquarius from March 2005 till February 2011 in opposition to the Leo sign, Leos will also act awkward and domineering, opening their mouth at the wrong time and saying how it is, without diplomacy! No change there then (she says, tongue firmly in cheek!), just more so. Aquarians will be know-it-alls during this period as well as awkward, self righteous softies. They may well come to realise that this way of acting is pressing the self destruct button; if they do become aware, they can change their lives and use their immense ESP and psychic potential to overcome obstacles and unlock doors to their future success. Jolly old Jupiter turns direct on the 6th in Scorpio, so hopefully you haven’t offended a Scorpio during the last 4 months, otherwise vengeance will follow in subtle (but still quite obvious) ways! Scorpios will have felt that their confidence has been knocked out of them and no one has been very helpful, they will have been at odds with their family’s ideas too, thinking that the world has gone on holiday and left them alone. On the 7th they can use the benefits of confidence, knowledge, and the ability to dig out information that has been hidden in the depths, to allow them to move forward. Globally there should be more optimism and confidence in trade and industry where sales are improved and public relations are better. Just a shame that Pluto is still going backwards, as it incites war and conflict between nations. Hopefully the world trade will be allowed to carry on and people will ignore the negative aspects of Pluto and aim towards peace and an end to conflict.

epending upon what kind of Crab you are, July gets off to either a calm or a turgid start; but around the 9th things start hotting up when you are presented with a couple of opportunities that you will want to make the most of, but which other people around you are dead set against. Careful negotiation and compromise will be called for if a major confrontation is to be avoided, and do please be warned that to go behind somebody’s back is a very dangerous tactic indeed. A lightening of moods around the 20th brings a greater degree of harmony to affairs of the heart and although you’ll be on your best behaviour, doing as much as you can to sooth some of the ruffled feathers around you, you’ll still feel as though you’re walking on egg shells. Financial interests take precedent from the 23rd onwards and if you find you are having to concentrate more on business matters and career pathways this is no bad thing if it diverts your attention away from domestic and emotional tensions.

Your July Forecast Cash & Career: Some frustration around the 8th, 9th and 10th when you may have to decline an opportunity that is handed to you on a plate. Just remember though, that there is no such thing as a free lunch and if you were to say yes to that opportunity you might subsequently come to regret it! In any case, as one door closes another usually opens, and the events around the 23rd – 26th do much to boost both your ego and your finances. If you’d said yes to that opportunity earlier in the month then you would not have been able to say yes to the opportunity presented later in the month and this late month opportunity has an awful lot more to offer in the long term. So, you are on course towards your goals and ambitions, albeit by a slightly different route. Short journeys in connection with business are relevant throughout July and I get the impression of sales seminars and intensive one day courses dealing with very specialist subjects, so have your bags packed and ready to go.

22 June – 22 July

Relationships: Honestly, I really do hope that I’m wrong, but July looks like being another tough and tense month for the majority of Cancerians, and especially Cancerian females who are trying to juggle too many balls at the same time and be all things to all people; while at the same time retaining some individuality and independence. Cancerian males fare little better and on more than one occasion will feel that they are not getting the support and back-up that they need from their partners. Emotional situations are complicated by the presence of a new and exciting personality making his/her presence felt around the 9th or 10th and this is a period where the Cancerian flirtatious streak could cause a lot of damage. Between the 1st and 21st whatever you do is going to be scrutinised and criticised but (thank God) planetary influences do change on the 21st-22nd giving you a more enjoyable last week to the month in which wounds can be healed and a more balanced approach will be found within relationships.

Your July Forecast

A

mood of smug self-satisfaction permeates through Leo during the month of July and there is a very powerful feeling here of things falling into place just the way you want them to! Having said that, this isn’t anything that is happening by accident, but rather it is the result of a lot of hard work over the last half dozen months or so. The period between the 1st and the 10th sees you taking stock of your achievements thus far and planning your next moves accordingly. It would be no bad thing to trust your instincts and intuition at this time and also to acknowledge the spiritual side of your nature which, if nothing else, will do much to lift you above the mundane routines of everyday life. From the 10th through until the end of the month, much of your time will be focused on helping other people with some of their problems and worries. You do this from a position of power and confidence and will be very successful in your quest. Therefore, your standing in the eyes of those “other people” goes right off the Richter scale. Watch for a

64 Vision 16

23 July – 22 Aug hiccup on the 13th or 14th when something may have to be re-arranged in a great hurry. Cash & Careers: Rather a thoughtful start to the month – you’ll be doing your sums, both financial and emotional, arriving at the conclusion that although things are good, they could be better. This pushes you into making some quiet little decisions around the 10th and I say “quiet” because you’ll be keeping them to yourself. This way, if you have to change your mind later on, nobody will know, will they? A rather more noisy side to your nature comes to the fore around the 20th, and this could be time for pushing the boat out and where one specific business venture is concerned, putting your money where your mouth is. All aspects appertaining to a business partnership are brilliantly well starred on the 23rd and 24th even if only in connection with a one off deal. The 26th and 27th see you juggling with money and possibly switching bank accounts to accommodate some new financial commitment.

Relationships: July looks like being a calm and controlled month in affairs of the heart – calm because you are controlling the pace, the tempo and the levels of commitment. There are some lovely moments of pure romance for Leos this month, especially between the 1st and the 10th, where late night conversations lead to early morning promises, and there is a feeling of actually getting somewhere in levels of understanding between two disparate identities. Between the 18th and 22nd something will occur that will bring you into contact with old memories and maybe even an old flame, and if handled properly this can do much to clarify your current mental attitude and emotional agenda. If nothing else, it may help you throw some caution to the wind when you realise that you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by being just a little more impulsive and free-spirited. Your sexual agenda from the 24th onwards looks promising, as your libido should get nicely scratched just where it itches most.

Your July Forecast

J

uly looks like it’s going to be a “holding pattern” kind of month for you as you attend to routine matters on a daily basis, and if there are some interesting plans in the wind, then they’re still in the wind and not quite on your door step just yet. The 4th to the 11th sees a small flurry of social activity and this could be a time for meeting some stimulating new people if you can get over your natural shyness and Virgoan reserve. There will be a boost to your popularity around the 18th and 19th and while you should be much in demand, you’ll still worry about just how sincere other people are being. It sounds like you need to take a reality check – you’re as good as anyone else and better than most – and anything that can boost your personal confidence right now should be welcomed with open arms. That boost might just be there for you around the 22nd when you are on the receiving end of some special thanks or are in receipt of an award for services rendered. You deserve it ... and don’t forget that!

23 Aug – 22 Sept

Cash & Careers: Even if you’re

Relationships: This is a month

one of the back room boys (or girls) you will still be given your chance to shine this month, especially towards the very end of the month, when a boss or business partner will be going out of their way to prove just how important you are to them. Over the month as a whole you will gradually be taking on more and more responsibility and with that responsibility there comes a greater degree of control over your work routines – and also your working environment! Transport may become an issue around the 15th,16th and 17th and some of you will be investing in new motor cars while others will find they are having to fork out for some heavy repair and maintenance bills. If travelling by air, check all timetables and be prepared for a few delays. The 27th and 28th could see you getting cold feet about one particular idea or project, but you really do need to press on with it, if only to see where it takes you and what it might lead to around the next corner.

wherein the practical aspects of running a relationship take precedence over the romantic and emotional connotations. We’ll be looking at who does the cooking and who pays the rent, and although couples may be deeply in love, there’s a big problem in the bedroom if she snores and he farts a lot! The actual business of sleeping together is not quite the same as sleeping together, is it? Ummm, how do we resolve this one, I wonder? Either way, these are the kind of issues that do need resolving and provided they are tackled with good will and some humour, there really shouldn’t be a problem here. I think it’s quite important that couples should be very open with each other about their respective needs, and this is not a time for holding back or being fearful of mentioning contentious subjects. Emotional relationships are very strong in the House of Virgo at this time and you should find the confidence to capitalise on this strength whenever and however you can.

Your July Forecast

T

he hedonistic emotional whirl of June calms down a wee bit in July and necessarily so, as there are other practical issues queuing up for attention. There is no real reason why you can’t enjoy the best of both worlds, but in the period between the 7th and 12th you will find yourself having to concentrate on professional matters, especially if there are new work routines and regimes being put in place at this time. Also, bosses and employers will be looking at you closely throughout the whole of the month, deciding whether or not you are suitable material for promotion, so be aware that your moves are being monitored. Even self-employed Librans will be working hard to consolidate their positions; and contracts signed on the 3rd or 4th may well set the trend for the rest of the summer. Travel aspects auger well between the 19th and 31st, but as it’s holiday season and there’s a travel agent on every street corner, let’s not read more into this than meets the eye.

66 Vision 16

Cash & Careers: Something

Relationships: You may resent

important is arranged, promised or committed to on the 3rd or 4th and after that you need to leave it alone for a while to mature and concentrate on purely financial and career targets, with the 10th of July being very significant for all work related matters that require signatures on contracts. Expect some setback around the 16th, when something simply doesn’t work out the way you thought it would. If a partner or colleague seems to be doing very well at this time, keep your envy in check and your mouth shut, because there is a reversal of fortune back into your favour on or close to the 21st – but it is worth mentioning that this is a time to see yourself as one of a team rather than some lone wolf. It is probably the very last days of the month that are your most productive, but I also suspect that by then (the 30th and 31st) your attentions will have switched back to your personal life, and as far as you’re concerned this will be more important than any work related issues.

having to put certain aspects of your love life on hold during the first few days of the month, but while man does not live by bread alone, he does need to eat occasionally, and for that he needs some hard cash. Also, it’s worth remembering that when money goes out the window love goes out the door, so for relationships to thrive and survive there has got to be some kind of financial foundation stone, which is why July needs to be a bit of a brick-laying month – if you see what I mean. Lay a few bricks in terms of good, solid hard work between the 1st and the 21st and then you can relax and enjoy getting laid yourself between the 22nd and the 31st. Seems fair to me! On a slightly different note, a business relationship with a workmate or colleague may come to a sticky and messy end somewhere in the middle of the month. It’s important you keep this in perspective, maintain your dignity and if necessary just walk away with your pride intact.

Your July Forecast

A

sweet smell of victory and success permeates through the House of Scorpio this month, both in affairs of business and affairs of the heart. Because your foundations are secure and your back is well protected, this will be a marvellous time for raising your sights and elevating your horizons – you’ve got the moon so let’s go for the stars! You need also be aware that you have got other people around you who are very much on your side and who are prepared to prove their friendship by deed as well as by word, and therefore do not at any time take this support for granted. It is the glue of your power base! Mid-month onwards may provide a lot more quality time for R&R and as travel aspects are high on the cards from the 15th onwards, I suppose we could put two and two together and come up with the notion of some well deserved holiday. Where you go might not be all that important really, but if you’re under thirty or over sixty who you go with could be very important indeed.

24 Oct – 23 Nov

Cash & Careers: Some changes

Relationships: There is a greater

of plan or financial priority between the 4th and the 8th will have an ongoing influence throughout the rest of the month, and it does seem very important that in all career aspects and matters of business that you trust your own judgement and lead from the front. Other people will be more than willing to follow your leadership, but if you yourself are waiting to take your lead from other people, this must inevitably lead to some confusion and delay. The 11th to the 19th July sees you making a lot of progress and you can expect to hit a few key targets and score a couple of spectacular goals. However, around the 20th or 21st a mood of restlessness sets in and you will find your thoughts straying from professional agendas to far more personal dreams and ambitions. A big chunk of money is being spent between the 23rd and 30th on a purely selfish acquisition, so prepare your bank balance or prepare for the long-term cost of your outlay.

degree of emotional and romantic stability in the wind throughout July – you’ll have a much clearer idea of where you’re going and who you’re going there with – but make no mistake, there is still a wild and passionate streak deeply embedded in the Scorpio agenda and there won’t be many nights sat in front of the telly being bored out of your tree by the caricatures on Corrie or Eastenders. Exciting nights out in nightclubs or theatres and sampling the fayre of new and unusual restaurants is much more likely, and the idea of sleeping on a warm beach beneath fronds of swaying palm trees will be a dream for some but reality for others. There is a glorious sense of freedom marching through the Scorpio psyche at this time which will affect all Scorpios regardless of age or sex. If cash is being spent on holidays, new cars, new clothes etc., this is great because it is a clear indication of investment in self – and from an astrological point of view, not before time!

Your July Forecast

T

his is going to be quite a tricky month for a lot of Sagittarians as they constantly sway between trying to do what is right for other people and doing what is right for themselves. Certainly there are times when these two agendas coincide, but there are other occasions when they are going to be poles apart. Between the 8th and the 11th your confidence may be shaken a little by the fact that the support you thought you had from third parties simply isn’t there ... and you’ll end up having to do something yourself that you thought had been taken care of by someone else. There may be a tendency to hold everything inside, but there is help on hand around the 18th in the form of a good friend; who can provide you with a sounding board as well as some very good advice. The 23rd brings a boost of fresh confidence and determination, but your newly found assertiveness may come as a surprise to other people who will not have understood how you’ve been feeling during these past few weeks.

68 Vision 16

Cash & Careers: The second

Relationships: We have a three-

week of July is a very auspicious time for trying out some new ideas and making some very definite changes to work routines that have caused you some distress and dissatisfaction over the past few months. Rather than being tactful and timid, you’re going to be more inclined to speak your mind, and although this may raise a few eyebrows in some quarters, it will gain you no end of support and applause in others. One way or another, if you are to carry on along your current work pathway you are going to do so much more on your own terms rather than following the party line. If other people don’t like this, your attitude will be one of “well if they don’t like it, they can stuff it” – or sentiments to that effect. Your confidence may slip towards the end of the month: if you find this happening, fight against it. You will have made much headway and this advantage should not be given up just because you’ve grown weary of fighting for something you passionately believe in.

way section of astrological energy this month which works out something like this: middle-yeared Sagittarians, say 30 to 50 – plod on in their usual routine way making the best of what they’ve got and avoiding any circumstances that might rock emotional boats. Younger members of the sign, however, say 16 through 29 will be on the move both in the nature of their relationships and their daily domestic routines. A bedsit shared in great intimacy with a loved one will be far more enjoyable than a palace shared with a family of restrictive relatives, so many youngsters will be making that move! Older members of the sign, let’s says fifty upwards, will now find both the courage and the opportunity to extricate themselves from boring and untenable relationships, and although this will be a scary situation it is also one that is full of promise and the heady scent of freedom. If the relationship has become stagnant and unfulfilling, age will not restrict a Sagittarian from moving on this month!

Your July Forecast

J

uly promises to be an easy going month for the majority of Capricorns. If there are a few lows they won’t be very low (look for them around the 22nd - 25th ) but there are likely to be some deliciously high highs, especially around the 13th when relationships and partnerships enter a very positive chapter and again around the 19th when there is a special degree of support and reassurance forthcoming from a partner, who will be doing all they can to help you achieve some of your aims and ambitions. The 22nd onwards may be a period for decluttering your life and redefining your priorities, but here again this is not something you have to do all by yourself. Nor is it something you have to do in a hurry. You can afford to take your time and relax into the process. Towards the very end of the month you are likely to become a bit pre-occupied with the problems of other people, especially parents and older people in the family circle, and at this time you can be an angel and a godsend to those in need.

22 Dec - 20 Jan

Cash & Careers: Not a

Relationships: Again, not a

particularly dramatic month where careers and businesses are concerned. Steady cash flow seems to confirm that you’re on track with your finances, and if long term future plans are being made, then they are long term, looking at least a year ahead. There will be plenty of time to hone and streamline as and when the need arises. Some special effort will be made this month to clear up any old and outstanding debts – I think of credit card balances in particular, and there will be a voluntary tightening of belts towards this end. An injection of fresh money falling into place around the 20th should be more than welcome and although some of it can be used as treasure for pleasure, the bigger lump needs to be banked and put to one side to finance future expenses and adventures. The 22nd to the 27th looks like being a very busy and tiring time, but it is also a good time for making profits and consolidating business plans, so make the most of the extra effort required.

contentious month for relationships and affairs of the heart – rather a routine and predictable period wherein things fall into place almost by number, and there shouldn’t be any nasty surprises. Overall there is a feeling of pulling together with a partner towards common goals and this process seems to tighten the bond of established relationships. For single members of the sign this energy is evident, albeit with a slightly different emphasis, and this is a period where long standing friendships between members of the opposite sex move into a more intimate and romantic union. A gradual and gentle process, but nevertheless quite wonderful and deliciously rewarding. The 13th of the month may well be a key date for making promises and commitments and from the 20th onwards you’ll be in a powerful position to put some negative aspects of your past behind you as your future looks increasingly rosy. There should be some news this month of a new addition to the family.

Your July Forecast

I

think that July is going to be a very practical and pragmatic month in which most of your attention will be diverted towards career and job scenarios. While nobody’s going to deny you your powers of perception and intuition, it’s a timespan wherein the head rules the heart and logic and calculation are your strongest allies, especially if you are trying to change and improve all things appertaining to business and money. There are opportunities in July but they do not come without some risk – look to a couple of periods in the month, namely the 9th to the 12th and 19th to the 23rd at which times you can afford to go out on a limb. The 13th and 14th is a period in which the emotional and personal side of your life gets drawn into the professional domain, but there is no threat or danger here – rather some excitingly high highs and a couple of very late nights. There will probably be some high stress levels making their presence felt, so just back off a wee bit and go with the flow into August.

70 Vision 16

21 Jan – 19 Feb

Cash & Careers: July will be a

Relationships: There are much

favourable month for money and revenue, but I suspect it may be coming to you from a number of different sources rather than being the contents of a single pay packet or company cheque. Also, if one door closes around the 6th or 7th don’t worry or panic as there is another door opening around the 10th or 11th and if nothing else, this does indicate that you need to be flexible in your thinking and quick on your feet to take advantage of changing circumstances around you. Travel aspects look logical for mid-late July and although this could just be a holiday (well, it is the season!), I rather think that there might be an overseas business link tied in with these travel plans. A bit of an oddity here, but if there are opportunities to launch new business ventures and plans with other people in your immediate family, this is getting flashing green “go” lights across the board astrologically speaking - so go for it in the knowledge that it has a lot of planetary support and if there was ever going to be a good time - it’s now.

deeper degrees of harmony and trust manifesting themselves this month within relationships, and if there have been a few squalls and upheavals earlier in the summer, July could turn out to be a powerful healing period for you, where you will be able to recover from past problems. Sexual and romantic agendas are at their most provocative around the 12th and there is a sense of fun and excitement in the wind at this time and also around the 23rd of the month; when temptation crosses swords with opportunity. In simple terms, this is astrological gobbledegook for “do I sleep with this person or don’t I?”. I do not want to be irresponsible with my advice, but there is so much seriousness and restriction abroad in our lives. I would say that if you are presented with the opportunity to have a little bit of fun and laughter – and it harms none – then for goodness sake do something positive to put a smile on your face and the face of that possibly significant other. The decision, as always, is yours ...

Your July Forecast

A

lthough your entry into July may be on a bit of a downer – certainly the first 36 or 48 hours – the pace of the month soon picks up and I think there are some important dates ahead that are destined to make July 2006 a very memorable and important month in the great scheme of things. Important decisions are discussed and are made between the 10th and 14th and as these decisions affect other people, you’ll be pleased to know that they are on your side and are backing you up all the way. Having said that, there are a couple of people who will insist on giving you the benefit of their advice, and like it or not, you may well have to listen to what they’ve got to say. It might be hard to separate the professional from the personal at this time, so don’t even try! Just accept that one affects the other, and vice versa. Between the 18th and 21st a new understanding is found within the framework of committed emotional relationships, and for young single Pisceans (16-24) new sexual and romantic connections are made. Indeed,

20 Feb – 20 Mar perhaps the greater Piscean energy in this period is more focused on affairs of the heart than business aspects and careers. Cash & Careers: You will be reviewing accounts and budgets and by and large will be quite pleased with what you find. To be sure, 2006 may have been a very expensive year so far, but for heaven’s sake, just look at what you’ve got for your money! Anyway, the point is that as you now move into the late summer/autumn/ winter of the year, finances and financial reserves improve steadily and gradually and it could be said that you are reaping what you have sown – and please, this is in a very positive sense, not a negative one. Financial decisions (among others) are made during the second week of the month and you should be able to make these choices with great confidence. On the downside, there is a little pocket around the 24th where communications get cocked-up and something gets lost in translation. Anyone involved in direct sales should have a huge smile on their

face around the 28th and 29th when a very important cheque finds its way into their bank account. Relationships: Some sort of petty squabble gets the month off to a low key start around the 1st or 2nd, but this trend is quickly reversed by the 7th at which time some very exciting social engagement(s) provide obvious opportunities to put more into – and get more out of – your love life. There is a lot more quality time being dedicated to relationships and those relationships will tend to gain in importance. It is around the 19th that you will become aware of just how important one particular relationship is and there is a marvellous feeling of pulling together with a partner. Younger members of the sign could find themselves in trouble with parents for staying out all night, and if you’re 14 or 15, please recognise that your parents might have a point… 16, 17 or 18 – well you might have a wee battle on your hands persuading those authority figures that you’re not a kid any more and have a right to live your life the way you see fit.

Your July Forecast

O

n the face of it this should be a busy and productive month, but beneath the surface you’ll be reviewing some recently made decisions and wondering whether or not you’ve made a dreadful mistake. I get the definite feeling that the die has been cast and that it might now be a bit too late to change your mind, so go with the flow, if only to see where it takes you. The first week of July could see you in quite an assertive mood that could develop into being quite an aggressive attitude if other people disagree with you, but there are some calmer energies coming in around the 10th that seem bless you with a greater degree of patience and diplomacy. Quite a lot of nostalgia in the wind around the 20th, when it’s time to embrace change and let something go that has had a huge influence in your past. Throughout the month, property and house sales have an influence and money spent on property is a sound enough investment – although middle aged male Arians may find they have an entirely different agenda of priorities.

72 Vision 16

21 Mar – 20 Apr

Cash & Careers: On the one hand there are no major problems facing you this month even though you may have to balance the books related to excessive spending in June, but there could be a clash of wills with a partner who may have a different set of fiscal priorities. Certainly an argument over money and how it is spent will be relevant between the 3rd and the 5th of July and this is an argument that nobody can win unless a few compromises are made on both sides. The problem is how do you compromise when he wants a sports car and she wants a mink coat? While this may be seen as a major issue at the time, some resolution will be found by the 16th or 17th, which in many respects could turn out to be the highpoint of the month: when you seem to get a second wind of confidence that enables you to put a few plans into action. Certainly there is a greater degree of support and co-operation around from the 17th onwards. Relationships: The beginning of the month will see you being a little bit

too sensitive and you could quite easily take offence where none is intended, becoming rather aggressive in your defensive stance. Just because you’re paranoid it doesn’t mean that the guys from MI5 don’t want to talk to you, but come on, you do need to find a sense of balance and proportion and just because your boyfriend says he doesn’t like the dress you’re wearing it doesn’t mean he’s going to dash off and have a passionate affair with Angelina Jolie – much as he might like to in his dreams (and if he does then part of this is your responsibility!) The boot may well be on the other foot too - so guys watch out for making assumptions over little things! Your fragile emotional state starts getting better and brighter around the 11th or 12th and by the 17th everything should be back on an even keel, especially if there is a key anniversary around this time and/or there are some travel aspects in the wind. Arian males could make fools of themselves with younger females towards the end of the month, and really gentlemen, you ought to know better!

Your July Forecast

T

his is going to be a funny month for a lot of Taureans out there – and I don’t mean ‘funny ha ha’ but more probably a case of ‘funny weird and peculiar’. A lot of it comes down to your personal perception of who and what you are, for while you might see yourself as the gregarious soul of the party others could well see you as the party bore. In affairs of the heart you could see yourself acting with gentleness and restraint while the object of your affections will see you as a raging bull hell bent on conquest at all costs. Older Taurean males who might want to help younger females in their working environment are likely to be seen as dirty old men with sexual agendas. The message here then is to take stock, do a reality check, and always err on the side of caution. When in doubt, say nowt, and keep your head down. It means pretending to be something and someone that you’re not, but you’ve done this countless times before when you’ve had to, so you can do it again – and in July of 2006, take it from me, you do have to!

21 Apr – 21 May

Cash & Career: There is some safety and security for the Taureans who concentrate on all work projects this month. You can’t get into too much trouble while you’re in the business of making money – it’s only when you try to make friends and influence people that you are likely to come a cropper! The 1st to the 10th will see you concentrating on one particular project that needs 100% of your attention anyway, so it would be a good thing to avoid distractions and dalliances at this time. The 19th through until the 23rd is a potentially dangerous period when skeletons from the past could pop out of the closet without warning, and if this doesn’t cost you something in financial terms it’ll cost you something in another currency. From the 25th though until the end of the month you’ll find it increasingly hard to concentrate on work issues, so this might be a good time to let your hair down a bit, but make sure that you do show a modicum of decorum as if you don’t, it is likely to be noticed.

Relationships: Whoah, do I really want to go there this month? Well I suppose I’ve got to, so let me try to get it right! For Taureans of both sexes, beware of winter-spring relationships, and especially if it’s you that’s got frost in your hair! The period between the 2nd and the 9th is one of excitement and high romantic hopes, and it has to be said that you’ll be getting more than a few buying signs from members of the opposite sex at this time. Raising your expectations too high and assuming that all promises made are going to be kept will, I’m afraid, lead to some sense of let down and disappointment long before the 18th or 19th. To add insult to injury, you’re likely to be on the receiving end of some suspicion and jealousy during the latter couple of weeks and some of your motives will be questioned by people who really ought to know better than make assumptions. This is going to push you into being extremely impulsive on the 28th 29th and 30th – and let’s see what happens in August!

Your July Forecast

J

uly is an excellent month for Gemini born people to improve their financial situations quite significantly, and although there must certainly be a lot of other stuff going on with families and relationships etc., I suspect that the accent may well be on businesses and careers with some notable stepping stones put in place for anyone who is self employed or who is working in the communications industries. The 10th to the 14th in particular would be a great time to innovate with new plans and ideas and also to take a calculated financial risk where personal finances are concerned. An opportunity will come knocking on your door at this time which may well involve some sort of business link-up with an old friend or an emotional partner. Something very “good” drops into place between the 19th and 24th which will have a beneficial on both your professional and your personal life and any Gemini out there looking for some new adventure won’t leave July feeling disappointed.

74 Vision 16

22 May – 21 June

Cash & Career: As I have already indicated, July is going to be a very powerful month for all business affairs and career ambitions and you really must make a point of reacting positively when presented with some unexpected opportunities as you may miss the boat if you do not. When somebody does make you an offer between the 9th and the 13th for goodness’ sake, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth or do your ‘Oliver Twist thing’: “please sir, can I have some more?”. Just grab what is being offered with both hands and see where it takes you. I somehow don’t think you’re going to be disappointed. On a cautionary note, those of you who work in design or the fashion industry should make a point of keeping your ideas and designs to yourself, and if you find someone looking over your shoulder, shove your finger in their eye! Business security may become more of an issue as the month progresses so it is wise to watch out for these things now: forewarned is forearmed. Be aware that not everyone is as honest as you are!

Relationships: Probably a calmer month than some you have known so far this year and if there is some excitement in the wind, it is of a positive and exhilarating nature rather than anything that causes problems. Existing relationships enjoy some nice highs on the 10th, 20th and 28th and these should also be seen as key dates for embarking upon new romantic pathways, especially if you’re in the 16-23 age group. Social aspects look good all month and there should be more than one occasion where you can really go to town in a new gown or (gentlemen) with that black vampire bat attached to your throat! Cinemas and theatres may cause you to bend the plastic, but at least you’ll have a good time doing it. Travel weekends away link in with strong romantic aspects and the accent here is on pure romance rather than just a sexual agenda. Late nights and early mornings, holding hands on the beach in the moonlight and talking about the rest of your lives together. Yeah, slushy … but good.

Recommended: The Cock Lane Ghost by Paul Chambers (Hardback, Sutton Publishing, £14.99) Vision have published a number of reallife stories demonstrating the amazing happenings in the world of the paranormal, both fact and fiction. The Cock Lane Ghost is one such remarkable journey that pieces together the facts surrounding a ghost story that gripped the whole of London - and most of the nation. Not only does the author recreate the sights and sounds of the 1800s in such fantastic detail in this book, but he goes to great lengths to reproduce the story as accurately as he can from historical records. The research that has

How to Create a Magical Home by Marie Bruce (Foulsham, £8.99) Marie Bruce is a witch and her books are hugely popular, doubtless because of her easy-to-understand style and because she makes magic without the need for complicated tools and arcane ritual. This book is another delightful read, I personally love her poems and ritual dedications, they are charming and very ‘today’. If you’d like to make your home a magical space, with everything in it working for you and yours, Marie’s book won’t fail to please. Cooking; bathing; putting the children to bed and even avoiding debt, all of these are looked at and dealt with via Marie’s simple,

been put into this book is astounding, it shows the power of the paranormal and the belief structures of the general public, including the differences between the poor and those better off. If you are expecting a plethora of paranormal poltergeist activity you won’t be disappointed. If you are hoping for a bit of sex and murder thrown in, you’re ok there too. However, if you are expecting proof of life hereafter you’re going to be sorely disappointed! However, don’t miss reading the Epilogue ...! This is a wellwritten and absorbing book recreating FACT as accurately as possible. Believer or sceptic, I think this book is well worth a read and I would recommend it highly. Diana Jarvis

Power Animals Cards by Steve Farmer, PhD, (Hay House, £11.99) In last month’s issue Kylie Holmes took us on a tour of the benefits of connecting with Power Animals, especially for children. Here is a grown-up deck of power animals cards intended for use as an oracle. The deck includes 44 cards, each one with a picture of the power animal and a brief affirmation which connects with the power of the card. There is also a guidebook included to help you connect with the animals and understand what they offer, as well as packaging that makes it easy to transport the cards. Unless you wanted to, there would be no need to get another box or

bag to put them in. These cards are unlike tarot, they do not give you clearcut answers to predictive problems, they are meant to be used intuitively and if you do use them in this way they offer a great deal. I did try this deck out on someone I had just met and was delighted to find that the cards chosen did help me to understand what I needed to know about the person. They also affirmed that the meanings of the cards were accurate. I think this deck would work very well if you want to disover more about your own personality as well as others’. I would also suggest them as a meditation tool and for all inner work. Diana Jarvis

sensible rituals. This is a book that anyone can pick up and use and is full of useful techniques that you can take outside your home too. Bring a little magic into your life and where you live with How to Create a Magical Home – not only will the book tell you how to do it magically but by doing so, you will look at your home as something sacred and loved, which will be good for everyone who enters it. The Manga Tarot by Selina Lin (Connections Publishing, £14.99) Before you even look at the cards, the presentation box this pack comes in is outstanding. It’s highly attractive with an innovative design, which stores both cards and book neatly and safely. It could be proudly displayed rather than pushed onto a shelf or put in a cupboard! The cards themselves are beautiful; the Manga artwork is quite breathtaking. It is a full deck of 78 cards, which includes both the Major and the Minor Arcana. The cards are a good size, being neither too big nor too small; they are just right! They fit comfortably in the hand and shuffle very easily. The accompanying book is clear and concise, with a word from the artist, a brief overview of the tarot, sample layouts and then the meanings of each card. The meanings are well written and easy to understand. I did

a reading with the cards, they were an absolute pleasure to use and the

The Penguin Guide to Superstitions of Britain and Ireland by Steve Roud (Penguin, £10.99) If you’ve been following our regular feature on superstitions with interest, you will absolutely love this book! Covering the commonest superstitions and delving into the really obscure and downright weird, this book is all you need to ensure that you have covered your back and encouraged good luck to come your way every day! Sources, dates and personal quotes enhance the clear and easy-to-read descriptions making this the perfect book for browsers! It seems that if something even slightly out of the ordinary has happened to you, it

will have a superstition associated with it, the book is jam-packed! There are methods for divining your future partner; ways of averting the bad luck you will doubtless get if you see a solitary magpies (one superstition I do follow, goodness knows why!); how to cure everything from corns to nosebleeds … in fact there’s a superstition for just about everything. I found this book absolutely fascinating, Some superstitions are so bizarre one wonders not only where they came from, but also why anyone would believe them; others give a real feel of where we came from and who we are as Britons. I would definitely recommend this book as an invaluable reference to

Classics for Meditation (Various, New World Music, £7.95) Classics for Meditation has to be the most delightfully relaxing music I've heard for

a very long time! We all know that classical music has been proven to enhance the mind and this album truly does that! There are many of my favourite classicals included, such as Morning from the Peer Gynt Suite; Pavane by Fauré and everybody’s childhood favourite: Lullaby by Brahms. There is such a difference to each track but they all work so well together you will definitely not get bored. The tracks take you to from soul-soothing relaxation to deep inspiration. I have to be honest in my review, so I hold my hands up to
