Currency

The currency is Norwegian krone (NOK). Norway is mainly a cashless country and all major credit and debit cards are widely accepted. Exchanging foreign currency for local cash may be challenging, but you will find ATM machines in many places. It’s a good idea to have some Norwegian money when you arrive in the country.

Tide table

"Se havnivå" shows observed and forecasted water levels, and tide tables for almost any place along the Norwegian coast. If you are interested in water level information for within the next five days, we recommend that you use the water level forecast.

A Sustainable Destination

The Narvik region is a part of the national labelling scheme Sustainable Destination. It is a tool for businesses and destinations that are working systematically to become more sustainable when it comes to the environment, local communities, cultural heritage, and the economy. Our destination was labelled in 2022, and the labelling scheme is approved by Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). Norway is one of few countries that has an internationally approved national standard for sustainability in the tourism sector.

North Norwegians love to talk about the weather.

But, despite the location well above the Arctic Circle, The Narvik Region will not leave your bones frozen 24/7. The warm waters of the Gulfstream provide quite some respite for the Ofot Fjord, including Narvik, and keep the ports ice free all year, and may surprise you with summer temperatures up to 30°C. From late May until late July the sun does not set, leaving the clouds to decide whether you will experience the midnight sun or just a bright night. In mid-November the sun disappears until late January.

Winter temperatures are usually somewhere between +5°C to –15°C, though some days can be much colder - especially when you travel further inland.

Are you planning to hike or ski in the region? Always check the weather forecast! In the northern part of Norway, the weather can change quickly. Prepare well and get updates on the weather at www.yr.no. If you are going skiing or hiking in the snow, check www.varsom.no (varsom means cautious) for information about the snow conditions.
