As the calendar changes from fall to winter, Lackawanna County’s premier winter attraction comes to life. Located in Scranton, Montage Mountain Resorts offers the most diverse terrain in Pennsylvania. With 26 trails, 1,000 vertical feet, and picturesque views, skiers and snowboarders of all abilities will find the winter adventure they are looking for. For the advanced crowd, Montage boasts 140 acres of black diamond and double black diamond slopes, with the resort’s marquee trail, White Lightning, claiming the title of “2nd steepest in the east”. Or you can test your skills and grab some air at the Terrain Park. Don’t ski? Don’t worry! Montage has something for everyone, including the longest and fastest snow tubing lanes in Pennsylvania. For ages 3 and up, the 10 tubing lanes and magic carpet lift promise hours of thrilling fun for the whole family. If you want to try something new, Montage Mountain has the largest airboarding program in the country. Available on the Mainline and Highball beginner slopes, airboarding allows you to fly down the mountain headfirst on an inflatable, bodyboard style sled. Montage Mountain is definitely the place to be in winter, and LED lighting on every trail keeps the fun going after dark. 2
When it is time to warm up, you can enjoy a hot chocolate while sitting by one of the fire pits or go inside and visit the Slocum Hollow Bar & Restaurant, where they have a delicious American Bistro cuisine and over 20 draft beers, wine, and more. Enjoy a quick snack at Johnny Rockets Tubing Area Shack, or check out the lodge’s food court where you can choose from an assortment of pizza, burgers, ice cream, and coffee— then get back on the slopes! Montage Mountain hosts several special events throughout the winter, including the annual Winter Holiday Party, Splashin’ with Compassion Polar Plunge, and the phenomenal Torchlight Parade & Fireworks.
