Awards Dinner
It is so nice to be back on a familiar schedule and being able to hold our first event of the year, the Annual Awards Dinner, in January. The Annual Awards Banquet was held on January 27, at the Deschutes County Fair and Expo, celebrating the best of 2022. This is a great way to recognize those who help make the year a successes and to get us all motivated for the year ahead.
The banquet is always a memorable event and this year we handed out six awards to those who made 2022 outstanding. The Ambassador of the Year went to Molly Schluckebier, her positive can do attitude, made her truly deserving of this award. Strive Workplace Solutions was recognized for their outstanding Customer Service. If you haven’t called Sharon for all of your office needs you owe it to yourself to give her a call. New Business of the Year, went to Arome’ in downtown, located right at the Redmond arch. Not only do they have amazing kitchen products, cooking oils and balsamic vinegars, they also have a wine bar! Be sure to stop in and say hello and congratulate owners, Janice and Nathan Bell. Business of the Year went to Kona Ice and owner Julie Sha . Who doesn’t love shaved ice on a hot day, and if there is a summer event in Central Oregon, Kona Ice is sure to be there. Each year, our President also has the opportunity to select an outstanding business or individual in the community. We were all thrilled
when President Sean Neary recognized Art and Music for their amazing business and being the “go to” place for all your art and music needs. The final award of the evening was the Citizen of the Year Award, which was presented by last year’s recipient, Don Deland. Don Deland presented the award to Laura Garcia of Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant. Laura is one amazing individual and has dedicated countless hours giving back to her community, serving on a number of boards and commissions and always being willing to serve outstanding hot authentic Mexican food at a moment’s notice for those in need, whether it be during the pandemic or to hungry firefighters during fire season. Laura works tirelessly and quietly in the background, but her actions are felt far and wide, she is truly deserving to be recognized Redmond’s Citizen of the Year.
Thank you to all of our Ambassadors, event sponsors, Chamber sponsor members, Board members, the City of Redmond, the outstanding table decorators and all the award recipients for making 2022 a great success.
Legislative Session Begins
The 2023 Oregon Legislative session opened on January 17 and will run until June 30. This full session will last 160 days, and already the first round of 1,800 bills and resolutions are released
for lawmakers to consider during this session. An interesting note mentioned by the Oregon State Chamber of Commerce is that the November 2022 election brought significant change to Salem with 22 new members of the Oregon House of Representatives, the turnover of nearly 1/4 of the Oregon Senate, and a new Governor. Additionally, over 50% of the members in the legislative assembly have never served during a session that was open to the Oregon public (or lobbyists), and they will be navigating an “in-person” Capitol for the first time. We will continue to work with the Oregon State Chamber of Commerce (OSCC) throughout the Legislative Session and posting their Updates on the Chamber Website under “News and Updates. I encourage everyone to get engaged in what’s happening both locally and in Salem.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Did you know, Oregon was signed into Statehood on February 14, 1859 and is known as the Valentine State. From all of us at the Redmond Chamber Happy Valentine’s Day!

As an entrepreneur for most of my life, I have found the confidence communication, and public speaking skills I gained from years in Toastmasters, to have been invaluable. After 1-2 years in Toastmasters, my gross sales increased almost 30%! This not to say that all entrepreneurs will necessarily experience these same results, but an increase in sales is to be expected.
The group is very supportive, community minded, and fun.

ECONOMIC update
A YEAR OF MOMENTUM FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

As we ease our way into 2023, Redmond Economic Development Inc. wanted to take a moment and reflect on 2022.
ity to transportation routes, and the positive economic environment created by the community from its diverse industry network.
Nationally and locally businesses and consumers were finding their footing again coming out of the pandemic. Reeling from regulations of masking and not masking, help wanted signs littered across the region, and trying to come to a new normal. We saw interest rates increase at a rapid rate in the latter half of the year, fears of inflation, and a continued rise of homelessness.
Through all of the upheaval and headwinds, the Redmond community has banded together and shown its resiliency. Local businesses, leaders, and citizens came together to create solutions and opportunities.
Let’s talk numbers. In Redmond, several companies finished their expansion projects including BASX and Medline. We also saw other entities move into our region because of the availability of land, proxim-
In 2022 alone, REDI closed six done deals. Surprised? REDI has been working hard behind the scenes throughout the pandemic to help businesses of all shapes and sizes move into the area, expand, and make use of the enterprise zones and more.
All told, these done deals translates into 263 jobs in Redmond and a capital investment of $32,422,000! Consider how this ripple effect falls into the local economy with goods and services like restaurants, insurance, personal needs, luxuries, groceries etc. It has been said one dollar of capital investment multiplies itself five times within a community.
So, what is in store for 2023? Plans are to continue the momentum of success from the past year to help businesses expand, building infrastructure to bring shovel-ready locations for new business recruitment, as well as continue to advocate for business friendly policies such as the Enterprise Zone renewal.

MARKETING tips
By: Connor CubicSo what about AI?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly becoming a crucial tool for businesses to improve their marketing efforts. By automating repetitive tasks, AI allows businesses to focus on creating more effective marketing strategies and reaching their target audience more efficiently.
One example of how AI can be used in marketing is through personalization. AI-powered tools can analyze customer data and create personalized content and recommendations, increasing the likelihood of conversion. For example, an e-commerce website can use AI to recommend products to customers based on their browsing and purchase history. This personalized approach can lead to higher conversion rates and customer retention.
Another benefit of using AI for marketing automation is the ability to analyze large amounts of data quickly and accurately. This allows businesses to identify patterns and trends, and make data-driven decisions about their marketing strategies. For example, an AI-powered tool can analyze customer feedback and social media mentions to identify popular products or common complaints. This can help businesses make informed decisions about product development and customer service.
One of the most popular AI programs for marketing automation is Adobe Experience Cloud. This suite of tools allows businesses to personalize customer interactions, analyze data, and automate marketing tasks. Another popular program is Hootsuite Insights, which uses AI to analyze social media data and provide insights on audience engagement and sentiment.
There are also AI marketing automation platforms like Marketo, Hubspot, Pardot which are popular among the businesses. These platforms offer features like lead scoring, email marketing, CRM integration and other features to help businesses automate their marketing efforts.
In conclusion, AI automation can bring significant benefits to businesses by improving personalization, data analysis, and marketing automation. Businesses that want to stay competitive and reach their target audience more effectively should consider incorporating AI into their marketing strategies.

WORK IN REDMOND
It’s no secret there’s a labor shortage in Central Oregon, and Redmond is not immune. In an effort to assist Redmond Businesses, the Redmond Chamber of Commerce offers a Job Posting site called “Work in Redmond,” which is a place for our Chamber Members to post any and all positions for which they’re seeking candidates.
However, this isn’t just a plain, stale site with the same old listings. As an integrated part of your existing Member Profile, candidates will have the opportunity to learn about your business as they browse listings, which gives them the context and confidence that they are making the right decision by applying for your job.
Posting your open position couldn't be easier. Simply login to your Member Portal Profile on the home page of visitredmondoregon.com, then click on the jobs tab, put in your information, and click
Create. Your job will be visible from both your Member Directory page as well as from the main workinredmond.com page. If you need help logging in, feel free to either email: info@visitredmondoregon.com, or call the office at 541-923-5191. We encourage everyone needing employees to add their job posting as soon as possible.
