Have you ever joined a gym, worked hard at it and then seen the results of your commitment, or have you joined a gym, not gone, and then wondered why you’re not seeing any results? Joining the Chamber is lot like a gym membership, you will receive more benefit based on your level of participation. Each year I like to dedicate at least one of my articles to getting the most out of your membership and I encourage you to talk with us about how you can maximize your investment.
So what exactly is a Chamber? The Redmond Chamber of Commerce & CVB is first and foremost a business membership organization that provides business advocacy, networking and referrals of its member businesses. The clubwomen from GFWC of Center Oregon are proud to announce our 20th year of existence in Central Oregon! The membership is sponsoring the Coffee Clatter on March 10th at Initiative Brewing in Redmond 8:30-9:30am and we are hoping to see many of our community members and businesses there. GFWC will be celebrating our first “Friendsgiving Event”, which is our opportunity to reach out to the many partnerships we have formed in the community and thank
everyone for their support. Without the giving attitude we share in Central Oregon, this volunteerism we offer would not be as successful. Looking forward to sharing time with the community and individuals we love on March 10th.

2022 REDMOND CHAMBER AWARD WINNERS
BUSINESS OF THE YEAR - Kona Ice of Bend
This year’s Business of the Year recipient personifies the entrepreneurial spirit. This woman-owned business brings a smile and inspiration in the heat of the summer. This company gives back to the community by supporting local schools and other organizations by donating time and product to various groups and activities and helping with many fundraising events throughout our region. This company is mobile, is seen at countless summer events around Central Oregon, is a kid (and adult) favorite, it’s cool, colorful, refreshing and affordable. If Mom is not behind the counter, you most likely will find her daughter, or one of the other handful of friendly employees.
CITIZEN OF THE YEAR - Laura Garcia
Over the past few years, we have seen an unprecedented number of people step up in the community to serve those in need. Some did it publicly with a great deal of community support, while others acted quietly behind the scenes, making a significant impact on numerous lives. This year’s Citizen of the Year is one of those who is quietly working in the background and making things happen. She has a strong record of community involvement as a quiet, humble leader who never wants praise for her actions. During the forest fires that pushed fire crews to the breaking point, this individual stepped up with her team and fed them. Supporting local organizations with fundraisers, serving on Boards and Commissions and always giving back to the community is what she does best.
NEW BUSINESS OF THE YEAR - Arome
This Husband and wife owned company opened its physical doors in Redmond last year after a traumatic weather event and new roof shattered their hopes for a December 2021 Grand Opening. Taking the delay in stride with determination and preservice, this company took up the opportunity to take advantage of the Holiday Village Market to sell their products and wares to the public and to get their name out to the community. Opening their doors in an iconic downtown Redmond location, at the Redmond Archway, they were finally able to welcome the public into their store in spring of last year and the Chamber held an official ribbon cutting in August. It has been a pleasure to have them as a Chamber member, to welcome them into the community and to support them during their time of need.
CUSTOMER SERVICE AWARD - Strive Workplace Solutions
This year’s Customer Service Award goes to a business whose name is newer to Central Oregon but not to the business they operate. In the fast-paced world of online ordering and free delivery, excellent customer service is key to succeeding in this business - and our winner of course does all this. If you are in the market for a desk chair, copier paper, that favorite roller ball silky smooth pen, or any business office supply - then hopefully you have experienced what we are talking about. Of course, Customer Service comes down to the leadership team and those who meet, greet answers the calls and delivers the products to your door. This business is truly the embodiment of excellence, which you experience from the moment you connect with them.
PRESIDENT'S CHOICE AWARD - Art & Music
From Sip and Paint nights, to refurbishing musical instruments, to offering one on music lessons tailored to the individual student - one could say their magic recipe for success is more art than science. This business offers products and services that are scarce in Central Oregon and their level of customer service, quality of product and commitment to the community earns them this recognition. A recent customer brough her young child into the store. Terry showed him different musical instruments, played them so he could learn what they sound like and let him explore. The owners are truly in business for the love of the arts and sharing their love with others. We are blessed to have them as part of our business community.
AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR - Molly Schluckebier
Our Ambassadors are the essence of the Chamber and they are the reason we can accomplish all that we do each year. They are our strength and their many hands make even the most challenging of tasks, easier. Their positive attitudes, can do spirit and the endless laughter, breathes life and joy into the mission of the Chamber and Redmond Community. Our Ambassadors attend Coffee Clatters, Business After Hours and Ribbon Cuttings, they distribute our monthly newsletters and they meet and greet our new members, and help them become engaged in the Chamber and community.
MEMBERSHIPupdate
By: Evelina DavidsonGreetings To All Of Our Amazing Members!
Well, here we are…in the 3rd month of 2023 already! Time sure does fly by fast. We have talked a lot about capitalizing on membership recently and as we wrap up the first quarter, let’s take a moment to recap on a few membership highlights from the year so far.
Online Member Profile & Access
Membership Directory
Chamber Member Decal
Redmond Chamber of Commerce Member Logo
There are so many more ways that our members can benefit from and take advantage of their memberships and we will discuss more of these highlights each month, but these are probably the fastest and easiest ways to gain some additional exposure and credibility in the Redmond community.
Every membership automatically comes with a Member Profile that is displayed on and is accessible through the Redmond Chamber of Commerce’s website. These profiles are what non-members and other members see on our website when your business is clicked on in the Member Directory. For this reason, I can’t stress enough how important it is to keep existing data not only updated with the most current information for your business, but to add content such as bio’s, logos, taglines, pictures, social networking links, etc. to your profile. Not only does this give our audiences more content when they perform a member search, but it also makes your profile more personable and unique with that customized flair. These profiles tend to stand out more and capture the attention of our users more so than not.
This is also a good time to update your office, building or website with Redmond Chamber of Commerce signage. Do you have a Chamber Member Decal displayed in the window or door of your business? If not, come by and pick one up at the office. Did you also know that you can request our member logo and display this on your website or social media pages? Utilizing Chamber signage adds familiarity and credibility to any business and these are free for our members to use. If anyone would like our member logo, feel free to email me at membership@visitredmondoregon.com and I will be happy to get that sent over.
There you have it, a few very simple ways that your business can gain exposure and credibility with very minimal effort. You don’t have to attend events to benefit from a Chamber Membership and this year, we will be spending more time talking about what membership brings to the table with or without event attendance. Don’t forget that we are here to support your business in any way that we can and would love to hear from you as to how we can do better and on what we have been doing well. As always, it is an absolute pleasure to be working with such an amazing community!

MARKETING tips
By: Connor CubicPivoting in 2023
Marketing has always been an essential part of any business, and in today's fastpaced and ever-changing world, it has become even more crucial. With the rapid growth of technology and the internet, marketing strategies have undergone a significant transformation. In 2023, it is crucial for businesses to rethink their marketing strategies and adapt to the changing landscape in order to stay relevant and competitive.
One of the key aspects of modern marketing is the shift towards a customer-centric approach. With so many options available to consumers, it is no longer enough to simply create products or services and hope that customers will buy them. Instead, businesses must focus on understanding their target audience and their needs and preferences. This involves gathering data through various channels and using AI and data analytics to gain insights into consumer behavior. By leveraging this information, businesses can create tailored marketing campaigns that resonate with their audience and drive engagement and sales.
Another important element of modern marketing is personalized and interactive content. In the age of social media and instant gratification, customers expect to be engaged in a meaningful way. Businesses must create content that speaks directly to their audience, rather than relying on generic messaging. This can be achieved through personalized emails, targeted social media ads, and interactive content such as quizzes and surveys. By creating content that is both informative and engaging, businesses can build trust with their customers and increase brand loyalty.
Social media and influencer marketing have also become integral components of modern marketing strategies. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter offer businesses a cost-effective way to reach a large audience and build brand awareness. Influencer marketing has also gained popularity in recent years, with businesses partnering with social media influencers to promote their products or services to their followers. By working with influencers, businesses can tap into their followers' trust and credibility, and leverage their reach to increase visibility and drive sales.
It is essential for businesses to stay abreast of the latest marketing trends and technologies in order to succeed in the competitive marketplace. This involves investing in ongoing training and education for marketing teams, and keeping up to date with new marketing tools and platforms. By staying ahead of the curve, businesses can adapt quickly to changes in the market and take advantage of emerging opportunities.
The importance of rethinking marketing strategies in 2023 cannot be overstated. In today's digital age, businesses must take a customer-centric approach, utilize AI and data analytics, and create personalized and interactive content in order to engage with their audience and build brand loyalty. Social media and influencer marketing should also be a key part of any marketing strategy, and businesses must stay up to date with the latest marketing trends and technologies in order to remain competitive. By doing so, businesses can create powerful marketing campaigns that resonate with their audience and drive growth and success.

Data For Business
When putting together business and marketing plans you always need to determine if your product or service has a market. Th is is where information about your customers and competition is so important.
So where do you go to locate this information? Many turn to Google and type in some keywords and hope for the best. That works, but how do you know the data is credible? How old is the data? Th is is when you have to carefully review who is producing the information. There are thousands of places to look for data – trade associations, state and federal governments, market research sites, and more. The shear amount can be overwhelming.
Libraries can help. How do we do that? One way is by providing access to subscription resources that pull data from reputable sources and package them together on an easy to use website. We also seek out authoritative websites and include them on the research and learning pages of our website (https://www. deschuteslibrary.org/research/business). Finally, we take questions and do individualized research when asked.
If you need help wading through the ocean of data sources, contact us through the Deschutes Public Library’s Book-a-Librarian service (https://www. deschuteslibrary.org/services/book-a-librarian). We do the research and then send it to you via email. We can also meet with you for up to 60 minutes to talk about the data points that were discovered. Call for an appointment at 541-617-7080 or fi ll out the form online at www.deschuteslibrary.org/ask.
DemographicsNow
Want to know how much households in Redmond spend on coffee annually? How about the number of households with families in Deschutes County? DemographicsNow (https://bit.ly/DPLDemoNow) provides access demographic reports and maps on any geography for information including income, housing, race, age, education, retail spending, consumer expenditures, businesses and
more. It helps start-ups and business owners, size market potential for goods and services, uncover household buying patterns, and identify new business locations. For more information and details about this rich resource see the resource guide at https://bit.ly/DemoNowGuide.
Novel Idea
When the A Novel Idea community read program first started 20 years ago it was with a simple question in mind: What would happen if everyone in Deschutes County read the same book? The goal was to engage with the community through thought-provoking and relevant programming and wrap it all up with a free and accessible visit from the author. That first year, a small committee of five readers looked for a book with regional roots and selected David James Duncan’s The River Why. The weeklong A Novel Idea event coincided with National Library Week and ended with a capstone presentation by Duncan; 400 people took part in seven programs.
As we came to the end of our second decade of A Novel Idea, we knew a celebration was in order. Picking just one book to mark this tremendous milestone was a daunting task. We began to consider the possibility of bringing back authors from past years, and to our delight, David James Duncan, María Amparo Escandón, Peter Heller, and Anne Griffin all said yes. We are excited and honored to bring all four authors to Central Oregon on April 29 for the main event, and to offer you more than two dozen engaging programs in the month before their visit.
For more information about A Novel Idea check out the “A Novel Idea” website at www.deschuteslibrary.org/novelidea for author information and event listings.
Redmond Library News

WORK IN REDMOND
It’s no secret there’s a labor shortage in Central Oregon, and Redmond is not immune. In an effort to assist Redmond Businesses, the Redmond Chamber of Commerce offers a Job Posting site called “Work in Redmond,” which is a place for our Chamber Members to post any and all positions for which they’re seeking candidates.
However, this isn’t just a plain, stale site with the same old listings. As an integrated part of your existing Member Profile, candidates will have the opportunity to learn about your business as they browse listings, which gives them the context and confidence that they are making the right decision by applying for your job.
Posting your open position couldn't be easier. Simply login to your Member Portal Profile on the home page of visitredmondoregon.com, then click on the jobs tab, put in your information, and click
Create. Your job will be visible from both your Member Directory page as well as from the main workinredmond.com page. If you need help logging in, feel free to either email: info@visitredmondoregon.com, or call the office at 541-923-5191.
We encourage everyone needing employees to add their job posting as soon as possible.
