DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

SEPTEMBER 2023

Summer Smoke

Well, this was a first in the 33 years of the Redmond Chamber Golf Tournament; we actually had to reschedule the tournament, due to the Air Quality Index (AQI) numbers from smoke. It was bad enough to have smoke, but what was so unusual was the absolute complete lack of air movement of any kind. With no breeze driving the AQI numbers up over 400, we had to reschedule. With the professional team at Juniper Golf Course helping us navigate this unusual occurrence, we are now rescheduled for September 22. We have been coordinating with everyone who had planned to play with us and we have reopened the tournament for new players too. Be sure to check your calendar and come play golf with us! We have amazing prizes and we will spoil you throughout the tournament. The Gary Gruner Annual Redmond Chamber Golf Tournament is available to sign up online at www. visitredmondoregon.com and click on the Chamber tab.

Wow, where did summer go? August was over before it began, Labor Day has passed us by already and our final Music on the Green summer concert was held Wednesday September 5. Did you make it to any of our concerts? We have so much fun hosting these concerts throughout the summer, and I would like to give a huge shout-out to our title sponsors First Interstate Bank and Eberhard’s Dairy. We could not do this event without them and all the rest of our sponsors and vendors.

Summer was full of unique and exciting events, which help delight locals, entice visitors and makes Redmond a fun place to live, work and play. Events are an important part of a community’s destination development. The Redmond Chamber of Commerce & CVB is pleased to have packed the summer full of unique experiences, starting with the Music on the Green summer concert series, offering six free concerts throughout summer. We were excited to survey each concert with a quick impromptu question to see how many in attendance were from outside the area, and there were many. The Chamber also hosted the Fourth of July Parade and of course, there were lots of flags and fireworks. Another of our big events was the continued partnership with the ReMax, Balloons Over Bend, balloon weekend, where we offered the Redmond Brewfest and Night Glow, at the Deschutes Fair and Expo Center.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

They say “time flies when you are having fun, so we hope your summer flew buy!

Leadership

With fall fast approaching, it is time to start the next class of Leadership Redmond. Leadership Redmond is one day a month, for nine months, running from September through May and held on the third Thursday of the month. This exciting program exposes participants to the many community leaders and organizations which keep Redmond running every day. Each year I am excited to get the program started with another group of eager participants who are ready to learn more about the inner workings of the Redmond community. The program will start on Thursday, September 15. The Leadership Redmond program is a partnership of the Redmond Executive Association (REA) and the Redmond Chamber and is now in its 18th year. I’ll keep you up to date on how the class progresses throughout the year.

Chamber Board Elections

September is also the month when we elect new board members to serve on the Redmond Chamber Board of Directors. Board candidates are selected by a nominating committee made up of current board members and presented to the full Board for approval at the September Board meeting. The committee reviews all candidate qualifications and looks at the various sectors of the community they represent. The goal is to have a diverse representation of the Redmond community. All candidates must have expressed a willingness to serve on the Board and have an understanding of the duties and responsibilities expected of a board member. Ballots will be mailed out by September 19 and must be returned by noon, October 3, 2023. If you are interested in serving on the Board, please notify any Chamber Board member or myself anytime throughout the year.

Have a great Fall!

A Smile For Kids

Donate Someone Else's Money

Supporting A Smile for Kids (ASK) through Fred Meyer Community Rewards: A Small Gesture with a Big Impact

Imagine a world where every smile radiates with confidence, where children are free from the ridicule that comes with severely crooked teeth, and where every young person feels valued, cherished, and connected to their community. For many children, a confident smile seems out of reach, but with the collective effort of our community, we can transform these dreams into reality.

A Smile for Kids (ASK), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is on a mission to change the trajectory of underserved youth's lives. These are young individuals who have severe needs for orthodontic treatment, but due to various circumstances, find it unattainable. The children in the ASK program don't just get a smile; they receive an opportunity. An opportunity to break free from the torment of bullying, to restore their self-esteem, and to actively participate in their community. By setting grade and volunteer requirements, ASK ensures these children not only achieve a radiant smile but also a brighter future by graduating high school and becoming integral parts of their community.

Now, imagine if there was a way for you to contribute to this noble cause without actually taking any money out of your pocket. Sounds too good to be true, right? Thanks to the Fred Meyer Community

Rewards program, this isn't just a pipe dream. Fred Meyer has devised an innovative way to allow its customers to donate to the charities of their choice without affecting their rewards, points, or savings. It's a win-win scenario: you continue to earn your rewards, and simultaneously, you make a valuable contribution to a child's future.

Currently, 42 families across Oregon have linked their Fred Meyer rewards card with ASK. We are appealing to your sense of community and charity to help us reach our goal of 100 families. Achieving this milestone would make a considerable difference to the number of lives we can touch and transform.

Why Choose “A Smile for Kids”?

There are undoubtedly numerous deserving charities out there. But the tangible, immediate, and lasting change that ASK facilitates is unmatched. A child's smile is more than just a set of straight teeth. It's a manifestation of their self-worth, their confidence, and their potential. By supporting ASK, you're not only funding orthodontic treatments but investing in a brighter future for these children. In addition, ASK has also been awarded the GuideStar 2023 Gold Seal of Transparency as well as the BBB Charity Accreditation.

How Does It Work?

The process is simple:

1) If you already have a Fred Meyer rewards card (or use your phone number), all you need to do is log into your Fred Meyer loyalty card account and select “Community Rewards” https://www.fredmeyer.com/ account/communityrewards/

2) Select “A Smile for Kids” (LU052) as your community organization when you use your loyalty card

3) If you're new to Fred Meyer, getting a rewards card is easy and free. Once you have it, follow the above link to attach your rewards to ASK.

4) Every time you shop at Fred Meyer or any Kroger Store and use your rewards card, a donation is made to A Smile for Kids. Remember, this doesn't affect your rewards or savings in any way.

Calling All Redmond Chamber of Commerce and CVB Members!

Join us in supporting A Smile for Kids. Let us unite and make a monumental difference in the lives of these young individuals. By merely shopping as you normally would, you can bring joy and hope to countless children. Let's ensure that every child in our community has the chance to beam with pride and confidence. Support A Smile for Kids through the Fred Meyer Community Rewards program. Let's aim to reach, if not exceed, our goal of 100 families. Together, we can make Redmond not just a place of commerce and business but a beacon of hope, kindness, and generosity.

Thank you for considering this appeal. Here's to brighter smiles and brighter futures! Find us at asmileforkids.org.

the ranch NEWS FROM

Crooked River Ranch Committees, Keeping Crooked River Ranch Running…

The Crooked River Ranch (CRR) Home Owners Association (HOA) has many working parts. Sometimes even those who reside on the ranch are not aware of all the committees that keep the wheels running out here on the ranch. In all there are 8 different committees. All of them are seated with volunteers from the community. The Architectural Review Committee is the only one in which the committee members are elected.

We’ll begin with the Architectural Review Committee [ARC]. The purpose of this group is to approve applications from owners for new buildings or lot improvements. To provide review of all property improvements as defined in the CC&Rs and County Codes. The term of this committee is one year, with members being elected in August of each year. The committee prides themselves on educating and assisting property owners as they make improvements to their property.

The CC&R Review Committee has the role of investigating CC&R violation complaints submitted. They adjudicate whether claims are valid or don’t meet violation standards. This committee works closely with county code enforcement on problems that represent county code violations. This is all in addition to educating homeowners and renters regarding CC&Rs and county code requirements.

One of the summer season’s most popular committees is Parks and Recreation. They provide two fun filled sessions in July for kids from kindergarten through grade 6. Activities include crafts, swimming lessons,

pickleball, golf, soccer, and snacks. They end each session with a picnic in Mac Park. The other responsibility of this committee is to provide advisory input to the Board concerning issues related to park improvement and use.

CRR Events Planning Committee [EPC] is responsible for the planning, coordination, and production of Board-sanctioned events on CRR.

The EPC will promote participation in community events by residents and guests and will ensure all events are organized and conducted in a manner that reflects well on CRR. The committee will procure vendors, entertainers, and special interest groups for events. They will coordinate with local businesses, sponsors, and volunteers to facilitate including the Independence Day Celebration & Barn Dance, Western Holiday Village Christmas, Annual Yard Sale, Art Events, and more.

The distribution of information between the Board of Directors and the Ranch members and renters is the role of the Neighborhood Phase Rep Committee [NPRC]. Residents subscribe to the system in order to receive important emails that provide notices of emergencies, events, meetings and more. Residents will have one or more representatives with approximately 24 total if positions can be filled.

Ranch Enhancements Committee utilizes the profits from the Steel Stampede event and other funding sources such as donations, for projects that benefit the Ranch as a whole, separate from the operating funds of the Ranch. Any CRR member in good standing can sponsor a Ranch project

by submitting a Project Proposal Form. After the committee reviews the request, they will present the selected projects to the BOD for the Board’s approval.

The mission of the Alternative Funding Committee is to create reliable non-revenue funding streams to be used for programs and services that promote the preservation and betterment of the Ranch and its residents. This committee has been successful in assisting the Lions Club in obtaining a grant to purchase fire abatement equipment which will be used on the Ranch.

The final committee would be The Budget Audit Committee [BAC]. This committee works with Ranch staff to create both an Operating and a Capital Reserve Plan budget. The process begins in October and the committee

review and adoption in March of the following year. In addition, the BAC makes recommendations concerning the funding of the Capital Reserve Plan [CRP] from operating funds to the Board for review and implementation during the next fiscal year.

Crooked River Ranch committees make it possible to provide events and activities that engage our community and foster a sense of belonging. They ensure compliance with the CC&Rs, rules and regulations that help to maintain property values and quality of life. Volunteers are vitally important to the Ranch community as we rely on their time and efforts to continue to move forward. Grateful for those who choose to contribute is an understatement.

Who Visits the Chamber of Commerce & CVB?

Recently we began tracking our phone calls and walk-in visitors to the Redmond Chamber of Commerce & CVB to provide stakeholders with a better picture of all that we do here in our office at 446 SW 7th Street. Our tracking consists of denoting if a we have a guest walk in, or inquiry over the phone. To provide more useful data than simply a number count on walk-ins and phone calls, we have also been tracking the topic of inquiry, and making notes if anything out of the ordinary was requested or discussed. We try our best to log every interaction. That being said, we are growing into this new routine, and are starting to collect some data to share with you on a monthly/annual basis!

Since we began tracking this information at the end of June, we have logged 395 inquiries. Of the nearly 400 inquireis, 67% are tourism related. In the bar chart below, we can also see the distribtuion of calls/walk-ins split between the topics of tourism and chamber. Th is data is showing what we generally expected. Many of our calls (27.4%) are inquiries related to events. Recreation activities and business information each are nearly 13% of overall subjects of discussion, with hotels being 5.2% of total inquires and restaurants (our smallest topic category so far) at 3.4%. One interesting piece of information to note is the duration of some visits from guests seeking to learn more about our area. We began tracking visits with lengths of over 10 minutes, and of those visits with a minimum time of 10 minutes, we have tracked a total of 220 minutes spent assisting guests in our visitor center lobby. Again, this is not surprising to us, but it is a great representation of our utility as a visitor center and we are lucky to have the ability to serve guests and provide them with valuable information about Redmond, Oregon!
