Having previously held positions such as operations manager of Spring Street Grocer (where he designed and helped build Australia’s first underground cheese cellar), Anthony’s appreciation for cheese runs deep. It’s what, in 2015, brought him to open Maker & Monger at Prahran Market. Envisioning an all-encompassing cheese shop that embraced the people who both make and sell cheese, the store has become something of a Melbourne institution, where cheese lovers are spoiled for choice. + makerandmonger.com.au
For husband and wife duo Dereck and Diti, Bad Shepherd Brewing Co is all about temptation in the form of fine craft beer and a menu of slow-cooked American barbecue and comfort food. This is a place to enjoy the pleasures of life. Despite failed attempts with the home-brew kit, the Hales launched the Cheltenham brewpub in 2015 with the determination to make better brews. They certainly achieved that, and the venue is now a local favourite. + badshepherd.com.au
A favourite for many at the South Melbourne Market, Azalea Flowers, the brainchild of industry veteran Michael, showcases a verdant variety of stunning flowers and foliage. Michael began his career working at his stepmother’s florist shop, building connections so he could source the best blooms directly from growers. Now, this is the place to go if you love Australian native flowers, but there’s also a variety of unusual indoor plants for sale. + azaleaflowers.com.au
