Matrics of ’13 shine Matjhabeng has best matriculant in Science, Maths Refilwe Mochoari THE Matjhabeng Region this year boasts the best-performing Mathematics and Physical Science matriculant in the country. With a pass rate of 86,6% in the Lejweleputswa District (from 82,6% last year), 29% of the learners in the district will qualify for a bachelor’s degree and 38% for a national diploma. This is according to statistics regarding Free State matriculants released by die Department of Education in Bloemfontein this week. A learner who performed extremely well in the region is Wilsan Xubuzani of the Teto Secondary School in Thabong. He was declared the best-performing Maths and Science learner in South Africa. Wilsan received six distinctions in Sotho (home language), English (additional language), Geography, Life Orientation and obtained 100% in Mathematics and Physical Science. Eben Vorster of the Goudveld-Hoërskool received nine distinctions. Eben is the matriculant with the most distinctions in the region. Sias Conradie of the Theunissen High School received eight distinctions, Liesha Stevens of the Riebeeckstad High School eight, Buela Vermaak of the Bothaville High School seven, Walt Janse van Rensburg of the Riebeeckstad High School seven, Arne van Zyl of Welkom-Gimnasium seven, Hermien Coetzee of the Goudveld-Hoërskool six, Petrus Classen of the Bothaville High School six, Louis Janse van Rensburg of HTS Welkom six, Thato Letsie of the Leseding High School six, Dimakatso Mosheshe of the Leseding High School six, Aisha Kajee of Welkom-Gimnasium six and Karabo Makoetlane of the Iketsetseng High School six. Also in the region, the Bultfontein Combined School is amongst the eight schools in the province with a 100% matric pass rate over the past five years. The Taiwe Secondary School in Theunissen is amongst the eight schools in the province from previously disadvantaged communities with a 100% pass rate for this year. ) See p 3 for more matriculants who performed well in the region.
