Elizora die blinkste ster
Hof eis antwoord Mike van Rooyen DIE munisipale bestuurder van die Matjhabeng-munisipaliteit moet nou in die Vrystaatse hooggeregshof kom verduidelik hoekom hy nie aan minagting van die hof skuldig bevind moet word nie. Die munisipale bestuurder van dié Goudveldse munisipaliteit is gelas om op 6 November in die hof in Bloemfontein te wees wanneer sy verduideliking oor hoekom sy munisipaliteit ’n hofbevel oor die betalinggeskil met Eskom verontagsaam het, voor die hof sal dien. Die munisipaliteit is deur regter Albert Kruger gelas om sy agterstallige skuld van byna R372 miljoen aan Eskom van Junie verlede jaar tot Julie vanjaar te betaal. Die waarnemende munisipale bestuurder, adv. Mothusi Lepheane, moet ook verduidelik hoekom die munisipaliteit nie sy lopende rekening vir elektrisiteit betaal het nie, soos op 31 Julie beveel is. Van die R56 miljoen wat in Julie aan Eskom daarvoor betaal moes word, is net R20 miljoen betaal. Hy moet ook verduidelik wat die munisipaliteit gedoen het om sy probleme, soos uitgestippel in twee verslae in sy besit, op te los. Uit ’n hofverklaring van Lona Manzana van Eskom blyk dit die munisipaliteit het hom nie veel aan die hofbevel van 31 Julie gesteur het nie. Inligting wat aan Eskom gegee moes word, is onvolledig en laat gegee. In die eerste onderhandelings met Eskom, soos die hof beveel het, kon geen dispute opgelos word nie en het die munisipaliteit met nuwe dispute na vore gekom om die aandag af te trek van die sake wat bespreek moes

In 2012, toe sy net 12 jaar oud was, was sy 15de in die wêreld in haar danskategorie gekom. “Om vir die wêreld-kampoenskapsbyeenkoms te kwalifiseer moes Elizora reeds verlede jaar punte bymekaarmaak,” sê haar trotse ma, Natasha. Vanjaar het dié dans-ster reeds haar spoor in Suid-Afrika gelaat toe sy al agt haar afdelings op die Vrystaatse danskampioenskapsbyeenkoms in die ouderdomsgroep 14 en 15 jaar gewen het. Smokkelaars weer in hof DIE polisiemanne en burgerlikes wat op 10 September in Welkom en Thabong deur die Valke in hegtenis geneem is, verskyn weer vandag en môre in Hof B in Welkom. Hulle staan tereg op aanklagte wat wissel van goudsmokkelary en geldwassery tot korrupsie en regsverydeling. Hulle is almal op borgtog van tussen R5 000 en R30 000 vrygelaat. Die beskuldig-
des, wat ’n vrou insluit, is in een van die grootste veldtog te nog teen polisiekorrupsie in hegtenis geneem. Die openbare vervolger sal nou besluit of die sake in die Welkomse landdroshof verhoor sal word en of dit na die streekshof verskuif gaan word. Die meeste klagte hou verband met oortredings van die Wet op Edelmetale.

White reageer op bewerings CJ WHITE, Moments Club, Welkom: EERSTENS wil ek die vraag wat volgens berigte gevra is, of ek land uit gevlug het, beantwoord. Die antwoord is nee. Ek was ten tyde van die voorval en die saak wat ondersoek word in die buiteland om my man, wat met kanker gediagnoseer is, by te staan. Ek kan dus geen kommentaar daarop lewer nie, behalwe dat ek glo die beskuldigdes is onskuldig. Ek glo nie een oomblik dat een van hulle so ’n gruweldaad kon pleeg nie. Die berigte dat daar dwelms op die perseel vervaardig word of dat

ons dwelms voorsien, ontken ek ten sterkste. Volgens inligting het die polisie die perseel met ’n hond deurgesoek tydens die inhegtenisneming van die beskuldigdes en geen dwelms is op die perseel gevind nie. Tog was daar ’n week later die sogenaamde berigte van dwelms in die koerant. Wat het daarvan geword dat ’n persoon onskuldig is totdat jy skuldig bevind word?
Meer as net ’n dansklub DIE Moments-klub is amptelik net ’n dansklub, maar inwoners en gereelde kliënte van die klub weet waaruit die klub sy geld maak. Nadat Aby van Heerden geskiet is en Volksblad se verslaggewer Tom de Wet by die klub opgedaag het, het van die besoekers geen geheim gemaak oor wat die klub se hoofinkomste is nie. ’n Besoeker het aan De Wet gesê: “Ek het ’n keer ’n vriend, wat nog nét met sy
eie vrou seks gehad het, daarheen geneem omdat hy nuuskierig was. Hy het die eerste vrou wat hy daarbinne raakgeloop het, betaal en hulle is na ’n kamer. Die tweede keer is ek saam met ’n groep sakemanne daarheen. “Een van hulle het die meisies elk R50 betaal om hul bostukke uit te trek. Van die mans kon toe drank oor die meisies uitgooi en dit van hul borste aflek.”

Die voormalige sekswerker, wat as Alice bekend staan, het aan Vista gesê dat dwelms vrylik op die perseel beskikbaar is en dat sy per geleentheid by White self van die dwelm CAT gekry het. White het dit uit haar handsak gehaal. In ’n onderhoud met Vista het Alice vertel hoe sekswerkers dikwels uitgebuit word en op min beskerming van die klub kan staatmaak. Sy is deur mans verkrag wat haar by die klub opgelaai het. Klubbestuur het egter druk op haar geplaas om nie ’n klag by die polisie in te dien nie. Die nuutste drama rondom die klub het begin toe ’n kroegmeisie na bewering bedwelm is en deur verskeie mans verkrag is. Sy het daarin geslaag om die polisie te kontak en het ’n verklaring afgelê.

Na aanleiding van haar verklaring is vier lede van die klub in hegtenis geneem. Hulle was teen druktyd steeds agter tralies omdat die staat borgtog teenstaan. Dit is die
vierde week dat hulle agter tralies is. Die vier, wie se name aan Vista bekend is, word van verskeie misdrywe beskuldig. Van die klagtes sluit sameswering tot verkragting, verkragting en geldwassery in. White sê sy glo in die vier se onskuld. (Sien brief hiernaas.) Die klub is oor die jare heen in omstredenheid gehul. In 2011 is Aby van Heerden (51) in die klub doodgeskiet terwyl hy in die kroeg gesit het. Die voorval is destyds as ’n rooftog ondersoek, maar volgens bronne kon dit verband hou met onwettige goudhandel. Christine van Wyk, wat ook tydens die rooftog gewond is, is later oorlede. Mense na aan haar glo sy het nooit ten volle van haar skietwonde herstel nie. In ’n ander voorval is ’n vrou deur Dieter Joubert oorval en verkrag terwyl sy in een van die kamers geslaap het. Die vrou het as kroegmeisie by die klub gewerk. Joubert is in 2012 op die aanklag en verskeie ander seksuele oortredings gevonnis en dien tronkstraf uit.

Welgedaan, HTS NICO EN ANNA DU BUISSON, HTS Louis Botha, Bloemfontein: EK en my vrou het onlangs die Primêre Skool Dagbreek in Welkom se konsert bygewoon. Ons het dié “andersoortige” kultuurkonsert terdeë geniet. Daar was nie feë, kabouters of hekse nie. Ook nie die tradisionele dekor wat gedurig verskuif moet word nie. Moderne tegnieke en hulpmiddels soos klank en beligting het die werk gedoen en so ruimte geskep om die klem op die leerlinge se ontwikkeling te plaas. Dink maar aan die getal
leerlinge wat in hul pragtige kostuums kon deelneem. Hulle het gedans, gesing, gelag en was vrolik. Ons het heerlik vir die mimiek van Ray Dylan en die Pampoenboer gelag. Geluk ook aan die personeellede. Julle is die sout van die aarde en verdien ’n pluimpie. Laastens, soos my oorlede vader altyd gesê het: “Dit sit nie in enigeen se broek” om hoof van ’n groot skool soos die Primêre Skool Dagbreek te wees nie. ) Vista het verskeie briewe ontvang wat Dagbreek met die gehalte van hul konsert geluk wens. – Red.
Politicians need to debate with humility MOETI MOLELEKOA, Thabong:
EARLIER this year I mentioned in my letter to you that the rise of more opposition political parties would be a boost to our democracy – how wrong I was. My argument was at the time based on the fact that we expected robust debates in parliament, with the EFF and DA contributing immensely to the deliberations. In contrast we see the mudslinging and derogative language used by the MP’s in the house. Violent language has turned the parliament into a circus. Humility, not arrogance, is needed regardless of how strong one’s point of view in the debate is. Politicians should be debating how they can best create an environment in which foreign businesses can be attracted to our shores. Their mandate is to hold the ruling party accountable. Instead of making headlines
with policy alternatives, as is expected of them, they waste time in anarchic behaviour, scolding one another. Substance is key. Even 20 years into a new dispensation, our people still think that they should wait for the government to create jobs for them. The government’s responsibility should not be to create jobs, but to generate an environment conducive for the private sector to create employment for the people. The government’s obligation is to solicit tax money from the employed and their employers to benefit the poor. The government is overburdened with the supply of free houses, free water, free electricity, free medication and free education to the majority of its citizens. The latest statistics from Statistics SA shows that 5,2 million people are unemployed in this country. The government can be able to create 6 million jobs if corruption by officials can be minimized.

THE Free State Mining Communities Unemployment Forum will march to the Department of Minerals and Energy at 10:00 today to hand over a memorandum of their grievances. The march conveyor, Paseka Ramatisa, says the way in which the mines, especially Harmony Gold and
Forum wants mines to invest more Sibanye Gold, act, is a huge problem for the forum. The forum feels that the mining companies should help unemployed people with student bursaries
and in-house training. Although the mines this year employed around 200 previously unemployed people more can be done to alleviate poverty.

Ou gevaar oorbrug BRONVILLE se berugte brug is danksy samewerking tussen die polisie, die gemeenskap en verskeie ander belangegroepe in ’n netjiese, veilige voetoorgang omskep. Skoolkinders van Bronville moet oor die bruggie stap om by die Polokong-skool in Welkom uit te kom. Kinders het gereeld in die erg besoedelde water geval toe hulle
oor die ou, saamgeflansde bruggie moes loop. Lede van die polisie en gemeenskap het elke dag gehelp om kinders veilig oor die stroom te help. Die polisie, onder leiding van adjudant-offisiere Smanga Dlakisa en Dennis Wranga, het na vennote gesoek sodat ’n beter brug gebou kon word. Die Vrystaatse Raad van Kerke, Edric, BESA Engineering
en sakelui van Bronville het hande gevat om die gevaarlike ou brug met ’n nuwe brug te vervang. Die nuwe brug sal ook daartoe bydra dat die polisie nou daarop kan konsentreer om misdaad in die omgewing te bekamp. Sodoende kan hulle dit nog veiliger vir die kinders maak, het kapt. Veteran educator receives PhD Rangskikkers sit hul beste voet voor
MADITSANE JOHANNES NKONOANE, popularly known as “Dicks”, has joined the long list of Thabong achievers by being conferred with a PhD in Education, by the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT). The title of his thesis was Capacity Building among Student Affairs Practitioners in Higher Education Institutions in South Africa with regard to Student Governance. Dr D.K Selaledi and Dr A.M Rambuda were his promoter and co-promoter respectively. Nkonoane started his school career at the Hlolohelo Primary School and matriculated from the Thotagauta Secondary School in Thabong, Welkom. He then proceeded to the University of Zululand where he obtained the Senior Secondary Teachers Diploma (SSTD) and the B. Paed degree. He further obtained the B Ed and M Ed degrees through the erstwhile Vista University, as well as the Certificate in Higher Education Leadership and Management (HELM) through Wits
University. Nkonoane started his career as a History and English teacher at the Lephola Secondary School in Thabong between 1990 and 1994. He joined the Vista University in 1995 as a lecturer in the Faculty of Education until October 2001. From November 2001 to December 2003, he served as an Academic Development Practitioner in the Department of Student Affairs at the Welkom Campus of the Vista University. With the incorporation of the Welkom Campus of the Vista University to the newly created Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) in 2004, Nkonoane was appointed as Manager: Student Services, at the Welkom Campus of the CUT. As of February 2010 to date, he has served as the deputy campus manager at the Welkom Campus of the CUT. He is married to Kelebogile who holds a BA and BA (Hons) degrees in Psychology, as well as a Higher Diploma in Education (HDE) from the former Vista University, and the couple is blessed with a son, Kabelo.

DIE HTS Welkom se personeellede het SuidAfrika se nasionale braaidag ter harte geneem en hul deeltjie tot die sukses van Erfenisdag bygedra. Hulle het in die Camp Discovery net buite Pretoria nie net ‘n vleisie oor die kole gebraai nie, maar het sommer die hindernis baan aangedurf en kafgedraf. Daarna is wild besigtig, voordat hulle die lang pad terug aangevat het.

Talentaand sal bekoor Molly Green ’n FEES van musiek, sang, drama en dans wag op Goudvelders wat die talentaand van die Goudveld-Hoërskool in Welkom gaan bywoon. Dié spoggeleentheid word op 15 en 16 Oktober in die Ernest Oppenheimer-teater in Welkom gehou. Die Afrikaanse sanger Mathys Roets sal een van die beoordelaars op die talentaand wees. Hy gaan ook saam met die massakoor van 180 lede optree en sal die gehoor vir ’n halfuur met sy fluweelstem bekoor. Gerda Koekemoer, hoof van die Goudveld-musiekskool van die GoudveldHoërskool, sê daar was sowat 100 inskrywings, waaruit 40 gekies is. Uit dié 40 sal die beste 18 as deelnemers gekies word. Armand Moolman, ’n oud-leerling van die Goudveld-Hoërskool, is ook een van die beoordelaars. Dié begaafde pianis studeer vir sy B Mus-honeursgraad aan die Noordwes-Universiteit. Hy het ’n beurs ontvang om in 2015 vir sy meestersgraad in Swede te gaan studeer. Die derde beoordelaar is Pieter Venter, wat ook aan Goudveld verbonde was en nou as sanger naam maak. Armand gaan die Donderdagoggend in die Ernest Oppenheimer-teater Goudveldse musiekleerlinge touwys maak oor hoe ’n

As dertienjarige seun het hy vir sy stiefma, Cora Marie, die liedjie Ek kan lewe geskryf. Hy het al meer as 200 liedjies geskryf wat deur van Suid-Afrika se bekendste sangers opgeneem is. Blood needed THE South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is making an urgent plea for donations of blood. “Our blood stock is at a critical level, with between 1,5 and 1,9 days’ stock available as opposed to the required five days,” explains Vanessa Raju, brand and communications manager of the SANBS. She says there has been an unexpected poor turnout of donors over the recent weeks, which has had a great impact on blood collections. “The upcoming holidays and examination period will further impact the number of donors
who turn out to donate blood and the SANBS is therefore calling on all eligible and current donors to make blood donation their highest priority. “You will never know when you or your loved ones may need this precious life resource.” This critical blood shortage has resulted in the SANBS requesting all hospitals and medical staff to cut back on planned operations. Outreach programme helps assist women THE Zoe Life Care Centre has a weekly outreach programme in the central business district (CBD) of Welkom. This is a step towards the awareness, support and education of women and girls to prevent crisis pregnancies or support during a crisis pregnancy. The Zoe Life Care Centre’s services include pregnancy testing, confidential advice, explaining options and consequences, post-abortion support and adoption referral. They do not perform abortions. The centre is situated in 226 Stateway,
Bedelia, Welkom. Counselling hours are from 09:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday. The 24/7 crisis number to dial is 072-882-3198. “The aim of the Zoe Life Care Centre is to be available to pregnant women and support them with counselling and also educate the community on teenage pregnancy, abortion and other options, STIs and sexual integrity,” says Jackie Botes, project manager. Marc Fourie van Grey-kollege is as die Vrystaat se junior kampioen gekroon. Sy wentyd was 1:04:24. Sy naaste teenstander was Cobus van den Berg van die Afrikaanse Hoërskool Sasolburg. Albei het die Vrystaatspan gehaal wat aan die nasionale eindronde in Magaliesburg gaan deelneem. Die Spur-hoërskolebergfietsliga is in 2009 as ’n gesamentlike projek tussen Spur Steak Ranches en Amarider bekend gestel. Dié liga eindig Saterdag met die nasionale eindronde by die Hoërskool Bekker in Magaliesburg. Piet du Toit was tweede en Mark Palin derde. Anthony Brown was eerste in die afdeling vir veterane (70 jaar en ouer), Calli Groenewalt was tweede en Fanie Swanepoel derde.

DIE Goudveldruiterklub in Riebeeck stad spog met agt ruiters wat vir die Vrystaatse ruiterspan gekies is. Hulle gaan van 9 tot 11 Oktober aan die na sionale kampioenskapsbyeenkoms op Misty Meadows naby Bronkhorst spruit deelneem. Gill McGowan en haar dogter, Jo, is die instrukteurs van die groep. Hier is van links, voor (sittende): Sarah Salvage (St Domi nic’s College High School), Rozelle Greyling (Hoërskool Wessel Maree) en Tailin Leech (Welkomakademie); agter (ook sittende): Nateska Kretz mann (Hoër Meisieskool Eunice), Cla risse Fourie (GoudveldHoërskool) en Megan Meyer (Hoërskool Hennen man). VIRGINIA kry ’n nuwe gevegskunsklub. Die Goudvelder sempai Gerrie Martin, ’n skop bokskampioen en student van die hoog aangeskrewe meester Joe Viljoen, open Maandag sy nuwe klub in Virginia en nooi belangstellendes om hulle te kom aansluit. Gerrie sê die ringkontakvegkuns het al agt professionele skopbokskampioene opgele wer. Dié vorm van gevegskuns word al sedert 1984 internasionaal erken. Wyle Boeta Austen van Welkom is een van die wêreldkampioene wat in die vorm van skop boks uitgeblink het. Afrigting sal elke Maan dag en Woensdag van 18:00 tot 20:00 by die Harmonyklub plaasvind. PHEKO MOLETSANE (13), headboy of the St Dominic’s College in Welkom, was chosen as September’s SuperSport Let’s Play Sport of the Month for Vista for his various achievements in hockey, cricket, tennis, swimming, athletics and soccer. This versatile young sportsman boasts a variety of sports achievements: 2012: Formed part of the St. Dominic’s College first cricket team and played for the u.11 Free State cricket team. 2013: He was a team member of the first hockey, soccer and cricket teams. He was also named the cricket player of the year at the St. Dominic’s College. Furthermore Pheko was selected to join the u.13 Free State cricket team and u.13 Northern Free State hockey team. Pheko was also part of the cricket team who competed at the Cricket South Africa National Week. 2014: He was chosen for the first hockey, tennis, soccer and cricket teams. He also forms part of the u.13 Northern Free State hockey team and was the
captain of that team and the Goud/Sand North u.14 tennis team. Pheko was part of the u.13 Lejwelephutswa district team and will play in the Free State trials this coming weekend. Slaggereed vir halfeind Molly Green
DIE Griffons is slaggereed om die SWD-Arende Vrydag ’n rugbyles in Welkom te leer. Die Perstruie sal vir die herontmoeting in die halfeindstryd op vol sterkte wees. Die Noord-Vrystaters het verlede Saterdag op die Noordwes-stadion sonder verskeie van hul staatmakers klaargekom. Manne soos
DIE plaasvervangende losskakel, Ossie Nortje, het uitstekende werk vir die Griffons verrig.
Japie Nel, Norman Nelson, Vuju Mboto, Elandré Huggett en Erik le Roux het onder andere ’n welverdiende ruskansie gehad. Vir die Griffons was ’n oorwinning in dié wedstryd nie belangrik nie, want hulle het toe reeds hul plek in die halfeindstryd bespreek. Die Arende moes egter wen, aangesien hulle ’n enkele ligapunt benodig het om vir die eersteligahalfeindstryd te kwalifiseer. Hulle het eindelik derde geëindig deur met 42-27 te wen. Die wedstryd is deur ’n minuut van stilte voorafgegaan uit meegevoel vir die dood van die oud-senter Barnie Britz wat van 1990 tot 1997 in 67 wedstryde vir die Noord-Vrystaat gespeel het. Oersond Gorgonzola, Griffons-afrigter, sê dit gaan kopkrap kos om ’n span vir Vrydag te kies. Hy was tevrede met die vertoning van die flank Frans Sisita wat ná ’n kniebesering teruggekeer het. Die Griffons se puntemakers was Tertius Maarman wat twee drieë gedruk het en Wynand Pienaar en Chris Elhlers wat elkeen een keer agter die doellyn gaan kuier het. Franna du Toit het met twee doelskoppe en ’n strafdoel geslaag.
Die rustydtelling was 21-8 in die guns van die Arende. Die Luiperds en die Valke sal ook Vrydag in die ander halfeindstryd in Potchefstroom herontmoet nadat die Luiperds die afgelope Saterdag met 50-29 in die spanne se kragmeting in Kemptonpark aan die wenkant was. Die Griffons en die Arende se halfeindwedstryd word om 13:30 op televisie uitgesaai, terwyl die ander halfeindstryd later die middag deur Supersport gebeeldsend word. Toegang is gratis.
