Munisipale swembad in ‘haglike toestand’ Molly Green

DIE munisipale swembad in Welkom is grasgroen, vervalle en vrot. Daarby is die kleedkamers en toilette in ’n haglike toestand. Die swembad moes reeds op 1 September sy deure oopgemaak het. Soos die geriewe egter nou lyk, kan geen galas daar aangebied word nie. Alida Calitz van die Welkom-onderwaterklub sê praktiese opleiding moes gestaak word omdat die swembad in ’n “haglike toestand” is. Die klub het 41 lede. “Verlede jaar was dit omtrent sweet om die munisipaliteit sover te kry om die swembad skoon te kry.” Sy sê lede van ’n swemklub moes self apparate aankoop om die swembad skoon te maak. Christo Jansen, ’n sweminstrukteur, sê die eerste groot gala is veronderstel om in November in Welkom plaas te vind. “Soos die swembad nóú lyk, sal die gala na Kroonstad of Sasolburg verskuif moet word. “Dit is tragies, want Welkom is veronderstel om oor van die beste geriewe in die Vrystaat te beskik.” Hy sê van die ouers het al die wegspringblokke reggemaak. “Ek het al briewe aan die burgemeester én die premier van die Vrystaat geskryf, asook aan die afdeling: sport en rekreasie, maar tot dusver was daar geen reaksie nie.” Jansen sê ’n kind het onlangs in

Lede van die polisie se duikklub, wat ook daar oefen, help soms om die swembad skoon te maak. Hulle kon egter die afgelope week nie daarby uitkom nie. Dié eens Olimpiesestandaardswembad is vir die jeug van Welkom verlore. Die stemme van kinders word oor naweke nie meer daar gehoor nie.

Inwoners woon in riool KOBUS PRINSLOO, Welkom: WAT ’n plek van veiligheid moet wees, my huis met groen gras, ’n speelplek en met my honde, is ’n doodsakker. Moet ons dit aanvaar? Dít het al drie keer die afgelope nege maande gebeur en is elke keer eers ná ongeveer ’n week herstel. ’n Eenmalige probleem is verstaanbaar, maar die houding en reaksie van die owerheid maak dié ’n strafregtelike oortreding. Finchstraat in Welkom is egter iets anders. Met respek, ek glo nie mense besef dié lewensgevaarlike situasie nie. Sekere patogene sal teenwoordig wees en mens en dier se dood veroorsaak. By omtrent ses van die huise het riool by toilette uitgeloop. Die erwe is ’n moeras van riool! Gevolglik is die hele huis en erf besmet met rou riool. Voertuie ry teen hoë snelheid deur die water en vorm riool-miswolke. Die voertuie word self ook besmet en ook waar daardie voertuig dan stop. Die owerheid is gekontak, maar is ongeerg omtrent die situasie. Daar is ander soortgelyke situasies in Welkom – dit kan as “poging tot manslag of moord” geag word indien enige van die mense sou sterf weens dié situasie. As wetsgehoorsame burger van die land is dit dan my plig om ’n amptelike strafregtelike klag namens die inwoners by die polisie in te dien. Ek sal daarop aandring vir ’n afskrif van die lêer sodat dit nie kan “wegraak” nie. Met respek gesê, onkundige mense is onbewus van die fatale nagevolge. Die hele straat is besmet omdat voertuie deur die ongeveer 100 mm diep water ry tot in hul erwe waar dit staan en drup. Troeteldiere, veral honde, kry die water in – ek het een hond van die water sien drink. Verder loop mense kaalvoet in hul erwe en kinders ry met hul fietse deur die water, salig onbewus van die gevare. Dit raak spesifiek nommer 10

Die feit dat die owerheid nie die inwoners inlig en verwyder van die blootstelling nie, is ’n strafregtelike oortreding opsigself. Die munisipale bestuurder kan persoonlik aanspreeklik gehou en aangekla word. Die situasie het omtrent al vyf keer oor die afgelope nege maande tot ’n jaar gebeur, en gewoonlik verloop ’n week tot twee weke voordat iets daaraan gedoen word. My familie bly in nommer 3 en besoek gereeld mekaar. Hulle moet noodgedwonge deur die riool ry. Indien enigeen van hulle iets sou oorkom weens die situasie sal ek die wet ten volle gebruik – dit is reeds ’n strafregtelike oortreding. Die reaksie van ’n chemiese wapen is dieselfde, die simptome van riool-blootstelling neem soms net langer om te manifesteer – soms jare. ) Die Matjhabeng-munisipaliteit het Maandag aan die probleem aandag gegee. Blykbaar was dit kabeldiefstal wat dit veroorsaak het.

Moordenaar se briewe te koop BRIEWE en getekende foto’s van Chané van Heerden, wat op die webwerf Serial Killers Ink as “gedenkwaardighede van ’n okkultiese moordenares” te koop aangebied word, het weer talle ou wonde oopgekrap. Chané en haar verloofde, Maartens van der Merwe, is weens die moord in 2011 op Michael van Eck lank tronk toe gestuur. Van Eck is volgens beskrywings by die briewe op die webwerf deur die twee by die Welkomse begraafplaas vermoor, sy ledemate is afgesny en sy oë is verwyder. Sy gesigvel is daarna afgeskil deur gebruik te maak van ’n tegniek wat Chané by haar stiefpa geleer het toe hulle gejag het. Chané se ouers het ná die berig in Volksblad (Vista se moederkoerant) hul ontsteltenis oor dié briewe en foto’s op die internet uitgespreek. Uit die inhoud daarvan blyk dit dat sy die briewe aan iemand geskryf het voordat die moorde gepleeg is. Volgens haar pa lyk dit soos bewysstukke waarop die polisie tydens die ondersoek beslag gelê het en uit die dossier verwyder is. Hy het aan Volksblad bevestig dat dit haar briewe is, maar dat die handtekening op die foto, wat vir R1 500 verkoop is, vervals is. Vrae word nou gevra oor hoe dié dokumente in die eienaar van die webwerf se besit beland het. Volksblad het bevestiging gekry dat die hulp van die polisie se kubermisdaad-ondersoekeenheid nou ingeroep gaan word. Chané se ouers, Michael se ouers en verskeie polisiebeamptes wat by die moordondersoek betrokke was, het intussen geweier om enige hulp te gee aan twee voornemende skrywers

In een van die briewe skryf sy dat niks ooit tussen haar en Maartens sal kom nie. Die briewe se pryse wissel tussen R350 en R650.

SERIAL KILLERS INK, die webwerf waarop briewe en foto’s van Chané van Heerden verkoop word, behoort aan Eric Holler (Eric Gein) van Amerika. Dit word beskryf as ’n webwerf wat gedenkwaardighede en kuns van veroordeelde reeksmoordenaars verkoop en as ’n ontmoetingsplek dien vir mense wat daarin belang stel. Die webwerf is geskep nadat Gein begin het om aan berugte aangehoudenes te skryf. Hy het hul kunswerke en ander handwerk-artikels versamel. ’n Vriend van hom het voorgestel dat hy dit op eBay begin verkoop, maar die verkope van dié artikels is in 2001 verbied. Tussen 2002 en 2006 was Gein stil totdat hy in 2006 weer aan aangehoudenes begin skryf het. Die webwerf is in Desember 2008 geskep. In Februarie 2009 is dit herskep en sedertdien word artikels soos kunswerke, kledingstukke en selfs haarlokke van berugte en nuuswaardige misdadigers te koop aangebied. ) ’n Groep wat hom daartoe verbind het om die Facebookblad van Maartens van der Merwe, Chané se verloofde wat saam met haar aan Michael van Eck se moord skuldig bevind is, te sluit is intussen gestig. Maartens is in ’n gevangenis in Bloemfontein.

Die straatlig voor my huis was drie jaar buite werking. Ek het die mense by die munisipale kantoor gaan spreek (elektrisiteitsafdeling), ek het briewe geskryf en tot die DA-raadslid in daardie stadium gaan spreek. Eindelik is die lig reggemaak en nou brand dit al amper vier jaar. Dit is nog niks nie. Ek bly al van 1970 af

op Odendaalsrus en elke maand het ek my munisipale rekening ontvang. Die afgelope vier jaar ontvang ek nie meer ’n rekening nie. Ek meld kort-kort aan dat ek nie ’n rekening ontvang nie, maar niks gebeur nie. Nadat ek weer die DA-raadslid gaan spreek het, het ek twee maande weer my rekening ontvang. Dit is nou al weer meer as twee jaar dat ek nie weer nie meer ’n rekening ontvang nie. Ek het die einde van Mei vanjaar aan drie mense van die Odendaalsrus-munisipaliteit my nuwe adres gegee en tot nou het ek nog geen rekening ontvang nie. So gaan dit maar op die ou trant aan. Sterkte met jul kerk se dooie lig.

Leeto – uitvoerende burgemeester van Lejweleputwa se projek aangaande die regte van vroue. Leeto maak sterk en kragtige stellings – “Wathint abafazi, wathint imbokodo” – as jy ’n vrou slaan, slaan jy ’n rots. Viva, me. Leeto – ek salueer u siening en mening. Die maand vier ons Vrouemaand. ’n Wonderlike viering, want ’n ma en vrou is tog die spil waarom haar gesin draai. Ek is seker elke vrou hou haar hoop helder, want verkragting, aanranding, molestering en die handel in vroue en jong meisies is sake waarvan ons daagliks lees. In ons eie stad is verkragting en die handel dryf met bloedjong meisies ’n groot probleem. Dit is deur statistieke bewys en ons kan nie toelaat dat dit so voortgaan nie. Iets sal indringend gedoen moet word. Mense wat suksesvol in die lewe is, het geleer dat dit nooit die regte tyd is om op te hou hoop nie. Hoewel ons al-

Kom ons ondersteun haar in die projek – ten minste wil sy iets aan die slegte dinge doen. Ek stem saam dit is nie ’n geveg vir die ANC-vroueliga nie, maar vir elke vrou, swart, bruin, wit, ongeag geloof of beroep. Dankie, me. Leeto, ek glo en vertrou elke vrou gaan u ondersteun en soos rotse bymekaarstaan om die euwel van mishandeling en verkragting met wortel en tak uit te roei – wees verseker van my ondersteuning. Gaan die positiewe gedagte van me. Leeto weer realiseer? Me. Leeto, reik uit na die minder bevoorregte vroue, God se dogterkinders. Ons kyk op na jou en ons almal verdien net die beste, want ons is ekstra spesiaal. Ek, jy en die ander vroue oor die wêreld heen is God se edelgesteentes. Ek glo en vertrou u gaan wel iets positiefs doen.

LT. GEN. SIMON MPEMBE, provincial commissioner of the Free State Police, praised all who had played a role in the peace in Bronville. This after five men, who had been arrested for public violence in Bronville, were sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for five. These men were among 26 suspects arrested

Members praised for peace in January 2013 for gang-related incidents in Bronville. The other 21 suspects were acquitted by the Welkom Magistrate’s Court.

They were arrested following incidents in Bronville where chaos erupted after a gang leader called “General” had been killed by members of another gang. In a second incident a man was attacked with sharp instruments, but later recovered at a hospital in Bloemfontein.

The accused are Isaacs Louw (24), Sikhona Mafumane (25), Elias Ncontsa (24), Shaun Pieterson (20) and Nataniel Darries (23).

THE Moremaphofu Intermediate School in Thabong identified learners who shared their birthday with Madiba and one learner by the name of Bongane Mantjiane, who is doing gr. 1, was identified. FRANSE SEBOLOKI, a Welkom sushi chef, came second in the national Sushi Masters competition. The competistion was held as part of the Good Food and Wine Show in the Coca-Cola Dome this year. Franse, the sushi chef at Ocean Basket in Welkom, competed against 146 sushi chefs from all over South Africa. His presentation, Goldfields platter, placed him second in the country. “We had three challenges on stage in the Celebrity Chefs Theatre. The first two rounds were knock-out rounds, a mystery basket and a speed test – nobody lost fingers but two of the five contestants were eliminated. “In the final round the ultimate winner was announced,” says Casper Bosman of Ocean Basket. Franse says the entire experience was very overwhelming, but an excellent learning curve and he is very proud of his accomplishment. He came second to a Chinese sushi chef

THE Queen of Africa Fashion Show, annually presented by the Yvette Basel School of Modelling, will take an exciting turn this year, incorporating the national crowning of the Commonwealth 2013-’14 South African Queen of Friends and South African King of Africa. Alida Pretorius, a finalist for the Queen of Friends, said she was surprised after she had been selected for the prestigious pageant. When she heard that the organisers had decided to bring the coronation event to Welkom it took her breath away. “I was stunned when the organiser of the national pageant, Tina-Bella van der Merwe, told me she had decided to bring the pageant to the Goldfields,” said Alida. The fashion show and pageant will take place at the Goldfields Casino on 19 October, and the dress code is formal. Tickets cost R150 and include light snacks. A cash bar will be available. “We have decided to donate a percentage of the ticket sales to the title winners to cover some of their travelling expenses when they have to attend the international finals in London. We’ll also be donating money to Claws and the Welriedal Youth Centre in Riebeeckstad.” Fabulous fashionistas and socialites from all over South Africa will be attending the gala event in Welkom, firmly placing the city on the country’s social map. THE Riebeeckstad Primary School went out of their way to support the Goldfields Hospice Dare to Donate initiative. This campaign forms part of the hospice’s income generation, where clothing is collected to be resold in their secondhand shop. The funds are used to care for the 320 patients who receive palliative care in the Goldfields area. The second hand shop, that is on the hospice’s premises, is open every Tuesday morning, and is run by kindhearted volunteers. Bejaardes bederf ONDER die bekwame leiding van die Van den Berg-gesin van Hennenman het die plaaslike ATKV-tak die afgelope week ’n musiek-vasvra-oggend by die Rushof-ouetehuis gehou. Die inwoners van Rushof is boonop met koek en tee bederf. Nie een van hulle het sonder ’n geskenkie huis toe gegaan nie. Die groot pryswenner van die vasvra, Tom Paich, het weggestap met iets wat hom na aan die hart lê – ’n driemaand-inskrywing tot Volksblad! Oom Tom, wat maar ’n ernstige outjie is, het breed geglimlag toe hy die prys wen. Marius en Marinda Davis, wat ook op Hennenman woon, is baie lief vir hul musiek. Hulle het begeleiding gedoen en musiekraaisels gespeel. Marius se lekker sin vir humor het almal daar se lagspiere behoorlik geprikkel en die bejaardes het heerlik saamgesing met Ou Ryperd, Sarie Marais en ’n paar ander goue oues. “Dis vir die ATKV-tak heerlik om van tyd tot tyd vir Hennenman se bejaardes so ’n lekker kuiergeleentheid te reël. “Hulle moet weet hulle is kosbaar vir die gemeenskap. En dit is op die stewige fondasie wat hulle vir die jonges gelê het, dat ons op ons kultuur kan trots wees en dit kan uitleef,”

‘Skilder verhoog geestelike lewe’

EEN van die Goudveld se vooraanstaande kunstenaars, Marie de Wet, hou Saterdag ’n uitstalling by die Ladybird-kwekery op Odendaalsrus. De Wet skilder met olieverf en haar temas sluit in groot natuurtonele, mense en landskappe. Sy skilder nou al meer as 20 jaar heeltyds. Elkeen van haar skilderye het ’n storie daaraan verbonde. De Wet doen deeglik navorsing oor die agtergrond en geskiedenis van haar werke, en sluit dit soms by haar handtekening in. Haar skilderye is groot en indrukwekkend. “Ek sien skilder as terapie. Dit was my redding ná die dood van my twee kinders. Hulle het ’n jaar en sewe maande uitmekaar gesterf. Skilder verhoog my geestelike lewe,” sê De Wet. Sy woon nou al nege jaar op Allanridge en dit is haar eerste groot uitstalling in die Goudveld.

NEIL NACHTREIN is ’n kunstenaar wie se musiek en lirieke baie eerlik is. Hierdie boorling van die Vrystaatse Goudveld woon die afgelope jare in die 2013-Kwêla-dorpvan-die-Jaar-wenner, Fouriesburg in die Oos-Vrystaat. Hy en sy familie besit en bedryf die Model-slaghuis op die dorp. Neil Nachtrein tree op Vrydag 11 Oktober om 19:30 in die Bekfluitjieteater in Welkom op. Die deure open om 18:00. Behalwe vir musiek is Chris ook geen vreemdeling op die kassie nie. Hy is ’n aanbieder in die nuwe De Kat-televisiereeks op kykNET en sal ook in die nuwe reeks Rugby Motors verskyn. Hy was ook ’n spesiale aanbieder van die kykNET-dokumentêr Kyk hoe lyk ons Nou. Die veelsydige Chameleon het ook as die gewilde karakter Liam in Suid-Afrika se gunstelingsepie, 7de Laan, verskyn en ook sy verskyning gemaak in die MNet-program Binnelanders waar hy die rol van prokureur Thomas Badenhorst vertolk het. NEIL NACHTREIN

Neil loop sedert hy in 2002 gematrikuleer het die pad van rock-’n-roll, hoewel daar ook elemente van blues en ander invloede in sy liedjies voorkom. Hy skryf al sy musiek en lirieke self. Om nie die hoofstroommusiekroete in Suid-Afrika te volg nie is beslis nie die maklike paadjie om te kies nie. Maar hierop is Neil goed voorberei en dit wys in sy harde werk en deursettingsvermoë die afgelope 11 jaar in die bedryf. Soos dit gewoonlik is, werp harde werk vrugte af, en dit is te sien in die groei wat hierdie kunstenaar die afgelope paar jaar getoon het. In 2010 het Neil ook ’n volwaardige album, Gisters en Blisters, saam met die hoog aangeskrewe vervaardiger John Buckley opgeneem, wat onder andere ook saam met Jan Blohm gewerk het. Die album is op sy optredes te koop. Neil is ook al hoe meer in aanvraag om in van die bekendste en gewildste teaters in die land op te tree. Hy het al onder meer opgetree in die Aasvoëlklub in Bloemfontein, Asbos-teater in Pretoria, Shinkshack op Bronkhorstspruit, Firkin in Centurion, op die Vryfees in Bloemfontein, Kersiefees op Ficksburg, die Bloemfontein-skou en verskeie ander feeste en geleenthede. Hy tree soms solo op, maar ook saam met sy orkes. Neil se loopbaan bou voortdurend meer momentum op en hy is besig om al hoe dieper spore te laat in die opwaartse kurwe waarin hy hom tans bevind. Dit is daarom die moeite werd om sy vertonings by te woon. The successful candidate will manage the manufacture, control and distribution of explosives according to legal requirements and relevant legislation. This will involve establishing and maintaining a management and control system to ensure legal compliance, continuous improvement and effectiveness of explosives. Additional areas of focus include ensuring that transportation permits are valid, up to date and legally compliant, adhering to legal requirements in terms of destruction of old/used explosives or material, conducting periodic full discipline audits and reviewing all relevant protocols. Planning explosive production targets, ensuring maximum availability according to mining requirements, interpreting blasting requirements and ensuring that the explosives are manufactured according to required ratios will also be necessary. Candidates must have a Blasting Certificate issued by the DMR or National Rock Breaker Certificate – Level 3 issued by the MQA, with at least 5 years’ relevant experience or alternatively SAPS Explosives Unit training and certification with a minimum of 5 years’ experience. Hy was ’n jaar in die Hoërskool Hentie Cilliers voordat hy by sy ma in Johannesburg gaan woon het. Hy en sy vrou, Grizelda, het drie kinders, Mondré (7), Marnu (6) en

Maroné, wat in November 2 jaar oud word. Grizelda (Henning) is ’n oudleerling van die Hoërskool Riebeeckstad in Welkom. “My vrou wil baie graag terugkom Welkom toe. Ons kom elke tweede of derde naweek Goudveld toe om vir Grizelda se ma te kom kuier en ons het al ’n paar keer na huise in Welkom gekyk, maar het nog nie ’n finale besluit geneem nie.” Morné speel ses dae ’n week gholf. “Dit is harde werk, maar ek geniet dit.” Hy wil baie graag oorsee gaan deelneem, maar “dit is baie duur.” Morné sê hy is baie gelukkig. Twee sakemanne van Virginia, Bernard en Nikki Norman, maak dit vir hom moontlik om professioneel gholf te speel. Die voorloper in die IGT-uitdaagreeks by die Sonskynreeks in 2014 sal ’n borgskap van R100 000 ontvang. Dit sal oor tien maande uitbetaal word. Die afgelope drie jaar het meer as 500 gholfspelers aan sowat 150 toernooie in die reeks deelgeneem. Prysgeld van meer as R4 miljoen was op die spel.
