New owner must also pay arrears THE future of the orphans at the Boitelo Orphanage in Odendaalsrus remains a mystery. The house, situated at 3 Willem Street, Odendaalsrus, was sold at a public auction for R3 000. This because of a bond repayment default. The municipal account was also in arrears. Last week Vista reported that the buyer was Francois Blom, the owner and proprietor of the Blommie Pawn Shop in town. He is known in the town as Mr Blommie, or Blommie. Vista received notice from the law firm TC Bothma Inc that the actual purchaser of the property is Francois Smith, who is an employee of Blom. Smith currently lives in the Blommeland Flats in Odendaalsrus. According to Bothma Attorneys, Blom is not the purchaser of the property. According to the conditions of sale in execution of immovable

property of the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein, Smith is liable to pay an amount of R3 000 for the purchase price of the property as well as an estimated R84 000 for arrears rates and taxes. These amounts must be paid by Smith to Symington and De Kok, the attorneys attending to the transfer. The orphanage, which accommodates 16 children between the ages of 2 and 17 years and 5 adults, has been in existence for 5 years. Most of the children here were found on the streets, they do not have parents and they have no family to go to when they are evicted from the house. The Boitelo Home is known for the Teddy Bear Project that was launched by Sebenzile Ngangelizwe, mayor of Matjhabeng, where children were given toys.

THE Thabong South African Police Service (SAPS) last Thursday hosted its first annual Thabong Cluster prestige excellence awards in Welkom. The cluster includes the Thabong, Bronville, Meloding and Ventersburg Police Stations. The event, which was attended by guests including Moeketsi Sempe, Free State deputy provincial commissioner for operations, and Cluster Commander Lerato Molale, was a great success. In his speech Molale said the purpose of these awards was to encourage and thank all the police officers in the Thabong Cluster for their hard work.

“The members who received these awards are members who are always optimistic. They are not complainers. “They are people who have put service before self; they understand that they are here to serve and protect the community of South Africa,” he said. The 22 police officers who were awarded each received a cash prize of R500, a certificate and a trophy. The award for the best performing police station was given to Lt Col Elias Uys, station commander of the Meloding Police Station. “I am very happy to be receiving this award on behalf of my team. It is a great privilege to be recognised in such a manner. We’ll continue to do good work,” Uys said.

THE Lejweleputswa District Municipality finally has a municipal manager. This comes after the position has been vacant for seven months now. Palesa Kaota resumed her position on 1 July. Khaya Mqeke, municipal spokesperson, said Kaota is rest assured on giving the community of Lejweleputswa the best service. In every African election, people are constantly reminded of colonisation and apartheid. Our corrupt activities, human desire for power, ethnicity and factional fighting are totally ignored. It’s a self-destructive strategy, because the entire nation becomes blind and mentally handicapped. As Africans, we need to take some measure of responsibility for our own actions and stop blaming the west, even for cholera. In South Africa, our people are made to believe that by voting for any other party except the ANC they will be giving up their hard-earned freedom. I totally disagree. As much as we try to deny it, since 1994, for both black and white, our lives are inter-related and our destiny is in-

separable. We all yearn for economic freedom in the new South-Africa, but I strongly believe that in our quest to correct the economic injustices of the past, we should also avoid turning this country into another Zimbabwe, precisely because of our race-based policies on the one hand and rampant tribalism within the ruling party on the other. Experience has taught me that white people are not over-protective of their economic accomplishment out of racism or because black people are incompetent, to put it bluntly. It is out of concern or fears that our black struggle heroes continue to have some form of grudge or scores to settle. Their continued reluctance to appreciate diversity, their failure to apply merit-based policies, their pursuit for socialist principles and their inability to deal with political intolerance, will eventually lead to ruin. Those sentiments are shared by everybody across all

racial divides. I was just wondering if for some reason Pres. Jacob Zuma can be recalled, how about Trevor Manuel becoming the president of the country in the near future? He has earned respect, he was the world’s longestserving minister of Finance and national executive committee member of the ruling party for many years. But guess what? There is no way, because he is not black enough. Therefore as we approach the 2014 elections, I feel as a nation we should get our priorities right and honestly ask ourselves, do we need a black leader or capable one irrespective of colour? I find it strange, that when people are charged with fraud, corruption and drunken driving, their legal counsel is white, but we can’t entrust them with the responsibility of mapping out trade and financial policies for this beloved country, why? It’s the same old story of Animal Farm.

THE Welkom Police are looking for an African male who has been using a false ID document to commit fraud. Capt. Stephen Thakeng, police spokesperson, said: “On 15 January the 23-year-old complainant saw an advertisement for a bakkie on OLX and called the seller. The phone was answered by a man calling himself Mike Kabelani. The complainant was

Man wanted by SAPS given an account number to deposit the money. On 16 January he deposited the money, called the seller and was given an address to which he drove. On his arrival he discovered that the address was shared by two

houses. He called Kabelani and was told to meet him, but he did not pitch. He tried to call him again, but to no avail. “The complainant registered a case and it was discovered that the seller

was not using his real name. He had taken the ID photo of Ntsizi Michael Kabelani and replaced it with his own photo. Kabelani lost his ID in 2010 during a robbery in Johannesburg. That stolen ID was used to open a bank account into which the money was deposited,” he said. ) The man in this photo can assist the police with their investigation.

THE golf day that was hosted in aid of Stephanie du Toit (16) at the Sandrivier Golf Course was a great success. Stephanie was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour on 19 December 2011. An amount of R55 000 was raised on the golf day to cover her medical expenses. Chantel van den Berg, organiser, said she was very happy with the outcome of the day. “I would like to thank all the sponsors and everybody who took part. Altogether there were 132 people who took part on this day,” she said. Stephanie has undergone several operations, but the tumour cannot be removed. Stephanie has also received chemotherapy and radiation on the maximum levels that are allowed. She was released from hospital on 13 June, because her medical aid is exhausted. Monthly fundraisers are held by Stephanie’s family to raise money for her medical expenses and other needs. A trust account was opened and is administered by Absa Virginia.

Hulle het met die liedere Can’t help falling in love, Ain’t she sweet en Were you there? hul veelsydigheid beklemtoon. Hier is die koor onder leiding van Malinda Anderson. Die koorhoofseuns is Paul Oliver (links, voor) en Nceba Mboya (vyfde van links).

Die moddergat gaan volgende jaar weer herleef en sal ekstra opwinding bied. ERNESTINE SAFAR (17) of the Riebeeckstad High School in Welkom has been chosen as June’s winner for the Vista SuperSport Let’s Play Sports Star of the Month. This young sports lover excels in athletics, cross-country and netball. She is an adamant athlete, participating in the 2 000 m and 1 500 m steeple chase. Ernestine won silver in the 2 000 m steeple chase at the Free State Championships and was chosen as Lejweleputswa’s best female steeple chase athlete for 2013. She’s also part of the Free State u.19 girls’ cross-country team. Ernestine also currently forms part of the Free State Lynx netball team that will be competing at the South African championships in Margate in July. She is also the captain of her school’s first netball team and is part of the

Lejweleputswa netball team. Ernestine is not only a very dedicated and talented athlete, but also an all-round sportswoman who excels in mountain-biking, tennis, quad-biking and motorcycling. Die man wat egter verseker het dat die Griffons gelykop eindig, was die losskakel Louis Strydom wat in die

doodsnikke van die wedstryd met ’n strafdoel geslaag het. Die Griffons-afrigter, Oersond Gorgonzola, sê die begeesterde Valke het hulle in die tweede helfte in hul halfgebied gehou. Die Griffons het nietemin ná ’n uur met 27-23 die eerste keer voorgeloop nadat hul heelagter, Tertius Maarman, ’n pragdrie gedruk het. Die Valke-skrumskakel, Anrich Richter, se verdoelde drie, met net meer as tien minute oor, het die tuisspan tot net voor die einde van die wedstryd laat voorloop. Dit het gelyk of die tuisspan die seisoen op ’n wennoot gaan begin toe ’n strafskop aan die Perses toegeken is. Die ervare Strydom het vroeër in die tweede helfte van net binne sy halfgebied ’n poging – sy enigste in die wedstryd – verbrou. Hy het egter met die skuinspoging van sowat 40 m aan die einde van die wedstryd geen fout gemaak nie. Sy direkte teenstander, Wesley Roberts, het, net soos hy, ook 15 punte

aangeteken. Vir die Griffons het Werner Griesel, Nicky Steyn en Tertius Maarman drieë gedruk, terwyl Strydom met drie strafdoele en drie doelskoppe geslaag het. Die Valke se puntemakers was Jongi Nokwe, Willie Odendaal en Anrich Richter, wat elkeen ’n drie gedruk het, en Wesley Roberts wat met drie strafdoele en drie doelskoppe geslaag het. Die Griffons kom Saterdag teen die Kings van die Oostelike Provinsie te staan. Die wedstryd begin om 15:00 in die Noordwes-stadion in Welkom.
