’n VENTERSBURGSE boer, Bozzie Relling, se gedagte om ’n biddag vir boere te hou, het Woensdag (12/08) landwyd uitgekring en mense van oor die land heen op hul knieë gehad. Noord-Vrystaatse boere en inwoners van dorpe in die streek het 6 km buite Ventersburg byeengekom om God vir ’n oplossing vir die land se probleme te vra. Ds. Cornis Botha van die NG kerk Ventersburg het die biduur gelei waarna van die boere ook gebid het. Om in vrede vir ’n oplossing te vra en eerstens as gelowiges voor God te staan en dan as boere, was die kernboodskap. Botha het ook gesê sagmoedigheid, en nie radikalisme nie, moet as oplossing vir die land se probleme gesien word. Boere van Worcester, Tzaneen en Bloemfontein sou ook Woensdag in gebed byeenkom. Kwelvrae oor ontslag Alet van der Walt

DOODSDREIGEMENTE, armoede en werkloosheid het die lot van skofbaas Ben Coetzee geword nadat hy in 2012 op omstrede wyse by die Tshepong-myn afgedank is. Coetzee sê hy is in Januarie 2012 afgedank nadat hy 500 ml se energiekoeldrank by hom gehad het. Hy is daarvan aangekla dat hy in goud handel dryf en hulp aan onwettige myners verleen. Die klagte is ingedien ongeag daarvan dat Coetzee volgens ’n ooreenkoms tussen die United Association of South Africa-vakbond (Uasa) en die Kamer van Mynwese wel 500 g kos en twee bottels koeldrank ondergronds kon neem. Volgens hom was die kosverbod nie van toepassing op Uasa-lede nie. Boonop kon daar duidelik op kringtelevisie gesien word dat hy nog nie verby die punt was waar ’n moontlike kosverbod kon geld nie. Coetzee is daarvan aangekla dat hy onwettige myners sou help en die wet op die besit van edele metale oortree het. Dit is strafregtelike klagte en moet volgens wet deur die polisie ondersoek word. Die sekuriteit en bestuur van die Harmony-myn

het egter nooit ’n klag by die polisie ingedien nie. Coetzee is afgedank, maar het onmiddellik geappelleer en is in April 2012 heraangestel. In September 2012 is hy per brief deur die mynbestuurder, ATL Sobreiro, in kennis gestel dat sy appèl hersien is en hy wel afgedank word. Nie Coetzee of sy vakbond, Uasa, is ooit oor die hersiening in kennis gestel nie. Daar is nie weer ’n verhoor gehou nie en vyf maande nadat hy suksesvol geappelleer het, is hy afgedank sonder dat hy kans gekry het om homself te verdedig. Volgens die myn se eie dissiplinêre kode mag ’n werknemer wat in ’n appèlsaak onskuldig bevind is, nie weer op dieselfde klagte verhoor word nie. Verder was die verbod op die neem van kos ondergronds net op lede van die Nasionale Unie van Mynwerkers (NUM) van toepassing. Coetzee het sy saak by die Kommissie vir Versoening, Bemiddeling en Arbitrasie (KVBA) verloor. “Van die begin af wou ek net my werk terughê, ek het nooit geld van die myn geëis nie,” sê Coetzee, wat nou ’n sukkelbestaan voer. Verskeie stemopnames van gesprekke tussen Jacobs en Coetzee se raadgewer is in Vista se besit. Jacobs maak in die opnames geen geheim daarvan dat hy vrees vir almal in die saak se lewe nie. ) Harmony Gold kon nie bevredigende antwoorde op Vista se navrae gee nie. Op ’n vraag waarom daar nooit ’n strafregtelike klag teen Coetzee ingedien is nie en of dit so is dat Harmony sy eie dissiplinêre kode oortree het, het Harmony Gold geweier om verder kommentaar te lewer. Die myngroep se verweer by monde van Henrika Ninham is dat die saak al jare aangaan en Harmony nie verder kommentaar wil lewer nie.

Murderers jailed THE murderers and rapists who killed a man and raped his female friend in October 2014, were sentenced on Wednesday, 5, and Thursday, 6 August, in the Virginia High Court. The four accused, Bokang Hendrik Tota (22), Thabang Joseph Motjope (18), Sele Samuel Mahamo (22) and Thebe Martin Mahapa (32), pleaded guilty as charged. They were sentenced over two days. Their crimes include one count of robbery with aggravating circumstances, kidnapping, murder and rape. The crimes were committed on Sunday, 26 October 2014, in Virginia. Tota was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment and Motjope received a 13-year jail term on Wednesday for their involvement in the commissioning of the crimes on the said date. Thursday was the turn of Mahamo and Mahapa. The accused were both sentenced to ten years imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances which involved

hijacking a motor vehicle and stealing other expensive items, three years each on each count of kidnapping, 25 years each for murder, while Mahapa was also slapped with an additional ten years in jail for rape. The case was successfully investigated by WO Lesole Monye of the Virginia SAPS Detective Unit. ) During the incident in 2014 the male victim was attacked and stabbed several times. He was then forced into the boot of the vehicle. The suspects drove to a secluded area in the vicinity of the Bambanani Mine. The 24-year-old woman was taken to a nearby bush by two of the suspects where she was raped. The stab victim remained in the boot while the woman was being raped. The suspects then returned to the first scene with the rape victim and the man in the boot. He was taken out of the boot and again stabbed several times. They left his body with the rape victim.

I make a plea for assistance in finding him. Na aanleiding van hierdie inskrywing op Facebook het ’n Vista-leser die volgende brief vir publikasie gestuur. ONTSTELDE HONDE-EIENAAR, Odendaalsrus: MY opregte weimaraner is verlede week uit my erf gesteel. Ek wil dringend die publiek (eienaars van opregte honde) waarsku oor die nuwe vorm van misdaad wat kop uitsteek. Die man wat hom gesteel het, het erken dat hy my en die hond dopgehou het. Ek neem dus aan hy het beplan om my hond te

steel. Hy het ’n R5 000-losprys by my gesoek. Ek kon dit nie vir hom gee nie. Hy het toe afgekom na R1 500 waarna die polisie met hom onderhandel het. Hy het toe sy prys afgebring na R1 000. Ek het met die hulp van TC Bothma en die polisie my hond teruggekry. Die polisie sê hulle kan glo nie die man in hegtenis neem nie, want hulle het nie genoeg inligting teen hom nie. Ek is net bly ek het my hond teruggekry. Ek wil graag ander mense waarsku oor wat aangaan. ’n Nuwe manier van geldmaak is om waardevolle honde te “dognap” en te hou vir ’n losprys. Mense moet hul hondekinders veilig hou en bewus wees van dié nuwe misdaadneiging. Volgens Carolina Sorrentino van die diere-welsynsgroep Saving Angels in Odendaalsrus is daar oor die afgelope twee weke sewe pekinees-hondjies weg.

GRAAG reageer ek op die skrywe van “Sê maar net” in die Vista van 6 Augustus. Gelukkig is ek nie bang om onder my eie naam te skryf nie. Ek plaas graag die feite op die tafel om die onkorrektheid van die inligting in die genoemde brief reg te stel. ’n Groep rugbyspelers van die Virginiasportakademie is begin 2015 by Goudveld en HTS Welkom geplaas. ’n Groep van die sportakademie se seuns het toe besluit om hulle by Welkom-Gimnasium in te skryf. Hulle het ook in die skoolkoshuis gewoon en sodoende onmiddellik by skoolbedrywighede ingeskakel. Die afrigter wat in die brief genoem word, is nie in amptelike diens nie en ontvang geen betaling van Gimnasium nie, maar het aangebied om saam met die Cravenweekafrigter met afrigting te help. Die skrywer is stil daaroor dat vyf seuns van dieselfde akademie laas jaar in Goudveld se eerste span ingesluit is – geen klagtes in anonieme briewe is toe deur Gimnasiumondersteuners aangevoer nie. Goudveld het ook vanjaar ses seuns van die akademie in die eerste span. Dit word egter nie in die anonieme brief genoem nie. Nege van die 15 spelers wat teen Goudveld uitgedraf het, is sedert gr. 8 in Gimnasium. Vyf van die huidige Cravenweekspelers is sedert gr. 8 in Gimnasium. Dat Gimnasium 13 spelers in die Cravenweekspan het, dui slegs op goeie afrigting by Gimnasium. Dit is jammer dat die briewekolom gebruik moet word om modder te gooi. Ek sê maar net: Hou op kla en vat die pak slae teen die ken soos ’n man. ) Hiermee sien Vista dié saak as afgehandel. Geen verdere korrespondensie hieroor word dus verder geplaas nie.

THABONG POLICE are investigating the possession of counterfeit money after notes with a face value of R900 000 were confiscated in July. The money was found after the police had chased a car which the driver abandoned in Thabong. The driver then fled on foot with a bag containing the notes. Police officers dismissed POLICE OFFICERS who were arrested last year on charges relating to the illegal possession of gold-bearing materials, corruption, theft and defeating the ends of justice were all dismissed from the South African Police Service (SAPS). Col. Motantsi Makhele, police spokesperson, said the officers were dismissed internally on 30 July. The criminal cases against these members will start in September and they will appear in court individually. The dismissals follow huge clampdowns on illegal mining activities after the Hawks did months of intensive investigation last year.

“A total of one captain, four warrant officers, two sergeants, 12 constables, one reservist constable and one Public Service Act employee (messenger) were dismissed from the SAPS after their involvement in offences ranging from the contravening of the Precious Metals Act, defeating the ends of justice, theft, corruption and money laundering in Welkom,” Makhele said. The police officers were part of different units in Welkom and Thabong and were dismissed after disciplinary hearings. They were charged with departmental and criminal offences, as they did not honour the prescribed code of conduct.

MOB justice claimed the life of a Thabong man last week after he had died in hospital due to injuries he had sustained when residents attacked him. On 2 August a 27-year-old man, Ditaba Elias Maphephe, was severely beaten by community members in Senokoane Street, Thabong. It is alleged that the community suspected that he had committed a robbery in the area. Thabong police members were summoned to the hospital on 5 August after Maphephe had died due to injuries he had sustained during the beating. The Thabong Police Station’s commander, Brig. Cois Muller, has issued a serious warning to people who apply mob justice that such actions are against the law and would not be tolerated. A case of murder was registered at the Thabong SAPS for further investigation. Woman shot, dies IN July the police were called out to a scene after the public had reported a shooting incident. The shooting took place in the vicinity of the Phakisa residence in Alma Road. When the police arrived at the scene they found a woman lying in a pool of blood. She was already deceased and lay about 50 metres from the entrance of the Phakisa residence. She was identified as Makhauta Mokhele (30) who is a Lesotho national. She was residing at the Paballong Village in Welkom. The police discovered that the brother and father of the deceased had been fatally shot in Lesotho three and four weeks before she had been killed. Should anyone have information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects, Det. Local beauty in top 16 WHEN 22-year-old Andricia Hinckemann entered the Miss Earth South Africa programme in April, the thought of making it to the top 16 in the country barely crossed her mind. She initially entered this woman and leadership programme, because of her love for people, leadership and a great desire to be a catalyst of change in her community. Andricia, who is from Welkom and is currently a final-year LLB student at the University of the Free State, has seen the need to develop herself holistically and not only academically by striving for excellence in various areas of her life. Being part of numerous leadership programmes at the university and having served on the Student Representative Council (SRC) has inspired her to continue on her journey of leadership in ploughing seeds not only in her life but in the lives of many other people. The Miss Earth South Africa programme serves as a unique and prestigious tool to allow her to be the difference she would like to see in her country and surrounding communities by giving more of herself as a change agent to those around her. Prior to her nomination as a national finalist, Andricia, a former learner at St Andrew’s, ran various projects in the Free State, some of which included a food garden at an intermediary farm school, stationery drives, donations of non-perishable foods to different organisations, planting of trees and numerous visits to schools encouraging a culture of environmental awareness and leadership. Besides the projects she ran, she also attended a few functions that allowed her to share her message of environmental awareness with those around her.

Projek bestaan steeds Alet van der Walt DIE Sonskyn-projek onder leiding van Alet Viljoen is steeds aan die gang en al het Alet ’n beroerte gehad, staan sy Welkom se armes daagliks moedig by. Alet en haar seun Jan Engelbrecht help om honderde mense wat dikwels honger ly, koud gaan slaap en dakloos is, weer hoop te gee. Ná haar beroerte het baie mense gedink die Sonskyn-projek het ophou bestaan, sê Alet. Dit is glad nie waar nie en sy help elke dag om armes te voed, klee en versorg. Die beroerte het Alet se spraak erg aangetas,

ALET VILJOEN het ’n terugslag beleef toe sy onlangs ’n beroer te gehad het. maar steeds staan haar hande vir niks verkeerd nie. Daagliks word kospakkies aan 20 gesinne uitgedeel. Van Maandag tot Vrydag besoek die projek 100 gesinne wat van kospakkes

afhanklik is. Skenkings het weens die misverstand rondom haar siekte verminder, sê Alet. Die projek het dringend kos, klere, beddegoed en toiletware nodig. Om iemand te help om vir werk aansoek te doen moet ’n mens verseker dat so ’n mens gevoed en netjies geklee is. Niemand stel ’n verhongerde, verwaarloosde mens aan nie. Daarom help die projek ook mense om netjies aan te trek en goed versorg te wees. Die projek maak ook Kersgeskenke vir die 90 kinders in sy sorg bymekaar. Die brandweer was vinnig op die toneel en het gehelp om die vasgekeerdes uit die gebou te neem. Enkele polisiemanne, twee onwettige immigrante en Ernst Grobler, ’n werknemer van binnelandse sake, is in die hospitaal opgeneem. Grobler was glo die langste in die rookgevulde tronkgebou vasgekeer en was teen druktyd steeds in die Mediclinic Welkom waar hy vir rookinaseming behandel word. Hy was besig om onwettige immigrante te dokumenteer toe die verdeelkas ’n paar meter van hom ontplof het. Volgens brig. Mzondi Mojafi van die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens is die kombuis waar kos vir aangehoudenes voorberei word erg beskadig. Die aanhoudingselle was Woensdag (12/08) nog met rook gevul, maar is nie andersins beskadig nie. Mojafi het aan Vista gesê onwettige immigrante van Lesotho sal onmiddellik gedeporteer word, terwyl ander immigrante na Gauteng gestuur is vir deportasie. van Johannesburg na Phakisa laat bring vir die dapperdag. Daar was ook ’n brandweerwa en die seuntjies het eerstehands geleer hoe om ’n brand te blus. Tafelrondes 40 en 204 was betrokke, asook sake-ondernemings soos Nashua, Goldco Midas, Divine Signs, Party Tyre Kwik Fit en die Goldfields-casino.

Min dinge in die lewe is so traumaties soos om te beseer te word tydens 'n ongeluk. Het jy geweet … Indien jy of 'n geliefde beseer is in 'n motorongeluk (behalwe wanneer die bestuurder die oorsaak van die ongeluk was), of indien jy 'n afhanklike is van 'n oorlede padongelukslaggoffer, kan jy moontlik 'n eis teen die Padongelukkefonds indien. Die Padongelukkefonds is 'n openbare entiteit wat befonds word deur 'n brandstofheffing wat by die prys van petrol en diesel ingesluit is. Die doel van die Padongelukkefonds is om te vergoed vir verlies of skade as gevolg van ligaamlike beserings weens die nalatige bestuur van 'n voertuig op Suid-Afrikaanse paaie.

Ná hoe lank moet ek 'n eis indien? Indien die identiteit van die oortrede bestuurder of eienaar van die voertuig bekend is, moet die eis binne drie jaar vavaf die datum van die ongeluk ingedien word. Dít is nie van toepassing by die eis van 'n minderjarige nie. Indien die identiteit van die persoon onbekend is, moet die eis binne twee jaar ingedien word.

Young musician making waves

DJ DECKO is a born and bred Welkom musician. He wanted to study Information Technology, but then disaster struck and thwarted his plans. He was in matric in 2014 at the Unitas High School and had already received a bursary to study IT when he became so ill that he couldn’t complete his matric year. Contaminated food caused him to lose five months of his final school year. When life hands you lemons, you need to make lemonade and DJ Decko decided to make a living by making music. He began to distribute his house music to local radio stations and music venues. He also participated in a voluntary campaign for the police. DJ Decko and the police partnered to do crime awareness campaigns. The police went with him to local townships into areas which were considered crime hot spots and made music.

The police did crime prevention in these areas while DJ Decko played house music. He still plans to complete his matric, however. “Without school there is no future,” he says. “I would also like to go back to school, but now I am busy marketing other companies, so it is not so easy to go back.” He started his own company for musicians and rappers called Buru Natives. “The name means to form a team to produce and share resources. “The company will be able to help local upcoming musicians,” the young man says. DJ Decko says he wants to invite musicians to join him to make music in the area. Musicians who want to join forces can phone DJ Decko on 084-228-1387.

Brink, Jonker se liefdesbriewe gepubliseer IN November vanjaar publiseer Umuzi die briewe wat die ontslape skrywer André P. Brink en die digter Ingrid Jonker aan mekaar geskryf het toe hulle in die vroeë 1960’s ’n liefdesverhouding gehad het. Brink, wat voor sy dood aan ’n roman met die titel Goudstof gewerk het, het die korrespondensie tussen hom en Jonker drie maande voor sy dood vir publikasie aangebied. Jonker se oorspronklike briewe, saam met afskrifte van Brink se briewe aan haar, is vir meer as 50 jaar in bruin koeverte in die skrywer se studeerkamer bewaar. Die versameling dokumente sluit onder meer telegramme en weergawes van Jonker se gedigte in en sal in die toekoms aan navorsers beskikbaar gestel word.

Karina Brink, letterkundige en weduwee van Brink, het die briewe in chronologiese volgorde gerangskik en geskandeer, waarna dit deur ’n huisvriend en voormalige student van Brink, Erika Viljoen, oorgetik is. Die boekhistorikus en redakteur van die joernaal LitNet Akademies se geesteswetenskappe-afdeling, Francis Galloway, het die oorgetikte tekste teen die oorspronklike dokumente geproeflees en kontekstuele leiding vir die Umuzi-publikasie verskaf. Die briewe is nie geredigeer en van verklarende aantekeninge voorsien nie. Leon de Kock – skrywer, akademikus en bekroonde vertaler – is vir die vertaling van Brink se brieweverantwoordelik in Engels, terwyl die joernalis en digter Karin Schimke die briewe van Jonker

vertaal het. Die publikasie bevat ’n inleiding deur Willie Burger, professor in letterkunde aan die Universiteit van Pretoria. Oordrukreg vir materiaal wat deur kopiereg beskerm word, is onderskeidelik deur Karina Brink en Greg Marsh, namens die Ingrid Jonker-trust, toegestaan. Die skrywersaandeel van die publikasie sal gelykop tussen die bestorwe boedel van Brink en die Ingrid Jonker-trust verdeel word. Beperkte oplae van ’n spesiale uitgawe, waarvan elke eksemplaar genommer is, word ook in Afrikaans en in Engels gepubliseer.

DIE amptelike opening van Nu Metro se vyf teaters in Welkom was ’n glansgeleentheid. Sowat 300 uitgesoekte gaste is met heerlike eet- en drinkgoed, asook geskenkpakkies, bederf. VACANCIES FOR POLICE TRAINEES: SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE SERVICE FREE STATE The South African Police Service invites applications from all races and gender for Enlistment in the Basic Police Development Learning Programme from young, energetic, intelligent, physically and mentally fit individuals, dedicated to serving their country by pursuing a career in policing. Basic enlistment requirements: Young South African men and women who apply to be appointed as a member in terms of the South African Police Service Act, 1995 (Act no 68 of 1995) must: • Apply on the form determined by the National Commissioner and affirm under oath or by way of a solemn declaration that the particulars furnished in the application, are the truth and correct; • Be a South African citizen of which documentary proof must be furnished; • Be at least eighteen (18) and under thirty (30) years of age of which documentary proof must be furnished • Be in possession of a Grade 12 school certificate or National Certificate (Vocational) Safety in Society of which documentary proof must be furnished (2015 matriculates are welcome to apply and before enlistment proof of successful completion of Grade 12 (Senior Certificate) must be submitted. As an interim arrangement kindly submit proof of last school report); Preference will be given to applicants who are in possession of at least a light vehicle driver's licence; • Submit himself or herself to a physical medical examination as determined by the National Commissioner and must be found to be physically and mentally fit for appointment in the post for which he or she applies; • Undergo a psychological assessment as determined by the National Commissioner and be found to comply with the profile of a police official; • Proficient in at least two of the official languages, of which one must be English; • Be prepared to take the oath of office; • Be prepared to undergo such training as determined by the National Commissioner; • Not have any tattoo marks of which will be visible when wearing the SAPS summer uniform; • Have no previous criminal convictions and/or pending criminal, civil, disciplinary cases and such person shall allow his or her fingerprints to be taken and allow background enquiries to be made; Not have been declared unfit to possess a firearm and • Be prepared to serve anywhere in the Republic. Body Mass Index of less than 30 / Waist circumference ≤ 102 cm (males) and ≤ 88 cm (females) All applicants will be subjected to a fitness, psychometric and integrity testing as well as medical evaluation and will be interviewed during the recruitment, selection and enlistment process. The SAPS will also verify the criminal record, qualifications, driver's license, citizenship and residential address of each applicant. Applicants in possession of valid driver's license for at least a light motor vehicle will have an added advantage. Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening and fingerprint verification. Applicants who previously served in a Government Department and who were dismissed as a result of misconduct are excluded. The SAPS will also publish the names of applicants on the SAPS Website and in the newspapers for public comments. Applicants will undergo a Final Selection Phase (“Grooming Phase”) at a venue and period as determined by the National Commissioner, to select the successful applicants. In view of the physical demands of the Basic Police Development Learning Programme, applicants with chronic diseases, physical impairments or any other health condition that may lead to interruption of the training programme, will be excluded from participation in the programme. Such applicants' failure to disclose the conditions will result in their withdrawal from the programme on the determination thereof. st

The Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Amendment Act, Act 37 of 2013 requires that all new appointments in the South African Police Service as from 31 of January 2015 provide a buccal (inside cheek) sample in order to determine their forensic DNA proﬁle. The forensic DNA proﬁle derived from the sample will be loaded to the Elimination Index of the National Forensic DNA Database. Basic Police Development Learning Programme Selected applicants shall participate in a Basic Police Development Learning Programme (hereafter referred to as the PROGRAMME) for a period of 24 (twenty four) months. The PROGRAMME shall consist of three phases: •

Academy Phase Ten months training at a designated SAPS Academy;

Field Police Development Phase Twelve months training at a designated Field Police Development police station;

•

Integrated Assessment Phase Two months assessment at a designated SAPS Academy.

During the Academy Phase of the PROGRAMME the Service shall provide free training gear, meals and accommodation to the police trainee. During the Field Police Development Phase of the PROGRAMME the police trainee shall be responsible for his/her own meals and accommodation; Trainees will also receive medical aid benefits for the duration of the 24-month Basic Training Learning Programme. Upon successful completion of the Basic Training Learning Programme trainees will be considered for permanent appointment as members of the SAPS. Remuneration (on completion of the training period) will be on the first notch of Band A (currently R142 140 per annum). In addition to this, appointees will receive the applicable service benefits. Core Functions: Successful candidates will serve as functional police officials. As such, they will be deployed to carry out one or more of the following functions: * Prevent, combat and investigate crime, * Maintain public order, * Protect and secure the inhabitants of the Republic and their property, * Uphold and enforce the law •

Branch invites women to hone shooting skills IN celebration of Women’s Month, Sandrivier 58, a branch of the South African Hunters and Game Conservation Association, will be hosting their first annual All Pink Ladies Day on Saturday (15/08) at the Excalibur Firearms Range. “A large percentage of women are never exposed to firearms in their lifetime. This may lead to assumptions and fears. “The event will focus on

bridging that gap by providing a friendly, knowledgeable and supportive instruction environment,” says Monique Potgieter of Sandrivier 58. The day’s activities will include a self-defence demonstration and a firearms safety talk by local experts. As introduction to sport shooting, a practical shooting demonstration will be done. Time running out to enter ONLY two weeks are left for athletes to enter this year’s 13th annual Mediclinic Women’s Race. The race is jointly presented with the Eskom Athletic’s Club in the Free State. Residents of the city can now also win with this year’s lucky draw in the women’s race. Let the organisers know where you have seen the Life in Action advertising board on 21 August and stand a change to win a prize. Competition forms are available at all participating businesses or you can phone 057-916-5325. Schools and other groups may enter and stand a change to win the prize money for the biggest female group to enter the race. There is also a big lucky draw for schools entering eight or more athletes. A total of 13 water points will form part of this year’s annual Women’s Race in Welkom. These water points will be manned by Cansa, Ricoh Goldfields, John Williams Motors, PKF Auditors, Sydney Cars, Doves, Round Table 204 and 40, Van Riebeeck Cycle House, Vista, Ampath, Buildmat, Virgin Active, Ooba and Twizza Softdrinks.

Hier is vanjaar se borge en begunstigdes. Van links is Marti Wil, redakteur van Vista, die mediaborg, Landi Kahts van die Suid-Afrikaanse Nasionale Bloeddiens, Marion Morrison van Welkom High, Yolandè Cronje, Kansa, en hooforganiseerder, Hilde du Plessis, en Cathy Pretorius van Charlotte Moll Haven. Die Charlotte Moll Haven is dringend op soek na ’n goeie digitale kamera.

Vrouewedloop groot pret

KOM wees deel van die Goudveld se grootste sportgebeurtenis vir oud en jonk, fiks en onfiks, man, vrou en kind. Die inskryfgeld is R30 vir die vroue se groot stap. Die ope 10 km-wedloop kos R40 per deelnemer en die kinderwedloop kos R10, terwyl mense wat aan die rolstoelwedloop deelneem, hulle gratis kan inskryf. Die eerste 1 000 inskrywings ontvang ’n nuut-ontwerpte tou-sakkie. Almal wat deelneem en die wedloop voltooi, sal ’n

medalje ontvang wat die 13de wedloop gedenk. Die tien topdeelnemers in al die wedlope ontvang ’n ekstra prys. Al die wedlope begin en eindig by die Welkom Mediclinic en die publiek moet kennis neem dat strate in die omgewing vir die duur van die wedloop gesluit sal wees. Die eerste wedloop begin reeds om 16:30 wanneer die kinders vir die 1,5 km-kinderwedloop wegspring. Kinders van 6 tot 14 jaar mag hulle hiervoor inskryf.

Om 17:00 is die 100 m-kleuterresies vir drie- tot vyfjariges. Om 18:00 spring die vroue vir die 5 km wedloop weg en om 19:00 is dit tyd vir die 10 km-ope wedloop vir mans en vroue. Mense kan hulle by albei die Tekkie Town-takke in Welkom inskryf, die MediCafé in Mediclinic, Neuman van RooyenProkureurs en Lezmin Computers, vir groepe en spanne wat hulle wil inskryf.
