’n Man van Virginia (46) is op ’n reeks aanklagte skuldig bevind en is kort voor Kersfees met 60 jaar tronkstraf gevonnis. Hy is nou effektief vir 18 jaar tronk toe. Dié man het twee van sy drie kinders van 2002 tot 2012 (die kinders was toe minderjarig) aan pornografie blootgestel, fisies en emosioneel wreed mishandel en aangerand, herhaaldelik verkrag en die seun en dogter aan verskillende seksuele misdade blootgestel. Hy was ook in besit van ’n onwettige vuurwapen en ammunisie waarmee hy hul ma gedreig het. Die kinders is vir ongeveer tien jaar erg met verskeie voorwerpe aangerand en is op die uiterste, mees vreesaanjaende maniere mishandel en verkrag. Die pa het gereeld hul koppe teen die muur of toiletbak geslaan. Op een só ’n geleentheid het die pa die dogter met die vuis bygedam en geskop terwyl sy gelê het. Die seun is met ’n tuinslang gewurg en is onder meer met ’n asbak gegooi wanneer sy pa woede-uitbarstings gehad het. Die pa was altyd neerhalend en beledigend en het die kinders name genoem wat onvanpas was. Hy het sy dogter op agtjarige ouderdom leer rook en sy is met sigarette vir seksuele gunsies beloon. Al twee kinders is gedwing om gereeld pornografie saam met hom te kyk. Die dogter is vandat sy tien jaar oud was deur haar pa verkrag. Die seun is ook deur sy pa verkrag en moes op aandrang van sy pa met die familie se boerboel-teef seksueel verkeer terwyl sy pa toegekyk het. Die skuldige het ook sy vrou met die onwettige vuurwapen gedreig wat vererger is wanneer hy onder die invloed van drank was. Hy het die ma ook gereeld aangerand en sy het hom verskeie kere saam met ander vroue

Hier kom ons! in hul bed betrap. Die dogter is intussen getroud en het ’n seun. Uit vrees dat haar pa dieselfde aan haar kind sou doen, het sy die moed bymekaar geskraap en in 2014 ’n klag by die polisie ingedien. Die dogter woon tans twee huise van die gru-huis in Virginia waar alles gebeur het.

Een van die winkeleienaars, Iqbal Uddin, sê verkeerspolisie van Matjhabeng en ’n man “wat belangrik lyk” het om 16:30 by sy winkel in Sylvania opgedaag en gesê hy moet onmiddellik sy winkel sluit, want dit is ’n vakansiedag. Uddin sê die man het aan hom gesê winkeleienaars moet ’n lisensie hê om op vakansiedae sake te doen. Hy is glo ook gedreig dat die kragtoevoer afgeskakel sou word as hy nie sy deure sluit nie. Van die winkeleienaars sê hulle is al meer as 20 jaar lank in Welkom en het nog nooit van só ’n wet of munisipale verordening gehoor nie. Geen van die groter winkels is aangesê om te sluit nie en kettinggroepe in die Goldfields Mall en groter kitskosrestaurante het soos gewoonlik sake gedoen.

Sy is as die koningin van die dag gekroon. En koningin Sarie Rossouw hét Maandag (09/01) op haar honderdste verjaardag die septer geswaai. ’n Kroon, ’n lyfband, ’n verjaardagkoek (wat nie vir die mooiste troukoek hoef terug te staan nie), ballonne en talle gaste was deel van die vieringe. Daarby het die tafels onder die eetgoed gekreun. Tante Sarie is ’n inwoner van Huis Rus vir my Siel in Riebeeckstad, Welkom. Sy is in Namakwaland gebore en sy en haar man, Piet, het in Porterville, waar hy in 1988 oorlede is, gewoon. Die egpaar het vier kinders gehad. Ná haar man se dood het Tante Sarie na Hennenman verhuis. Haar enigste seun, Michael, het in die Boegoebergdam verdrink toe hy 18 jaar oud was.

Tante Sarie se dogter Mariana van Staden, van Odendaalsrus, sê haar ma het onlangs gesê sy sien uit daarna om haar seun weer te sien en by hom te wees. Die honderdjarige, wat daarvan hou om te gesels, kan nie meer loop nie. Sy hoor en sien ook nie meer te goed nie, maar kan kommunikeer. Sy dra ’n gehoorapparaat. Op ’n vraag oor hoe dit voel om honderd jaar oud te wees, het sy effens verbaas uitgeroep: “Honderd? Dis baie oud!” Mariana sê haar ma was deur die jare ’n huisvrou. Sy was lief vir naaldwerk en was ’n uithaler beskuit- en broodbakker. “Sy was haar hele lewe lank gesond en skraal. Sy eet nog goed en het, soos die meeste bejaardes, ’n soet tand.” Linda Huyser, eienaar van die versorgingsplek vir verswakte bejaardes, sê dit is die eerste keer dat sy ’n ’n Waardige koningin, Sarie Rossouw, wat haar honderdste verhonderdjarige onder haar jaardag gevier het. Kersfees is verby en die geskenkpapier en partytjiehoedjies het hul weg na die vullisblikke gekry. Nuwejaar het aangebreek en alles is terug na normaal. Wat normaal ookal vir ons elkeen in sy of haar eie hoedanigheid beteken. Elke jaar maak ’n mens planne vir die Desembervakansie om weg te breek, maar verlede jaar het ek soos ’n foksterriër vasgebyt en gesê ek het ander goete om te breek. By die huis, in my kamer – die mat moet uit en houtvloere moet in. Die jonge dogter het Kersfees by haar jongetjie en sy ouers gaan deurbring en ek en Pappa alleen gelos om te bou en te breek. Ook maar goed so. ’n Mens raak soms tale kwyt wanneer ’n mens sukkel, veral as die kwik ver oor die 30 grade styg. Ewenwel, ná die vloerinsittery het ek toe nou baie tyd gehad om net onder die lapa van vroeg tot laat te ontspan. Ons tuin is ’n paradys vir ’n groot verskeidenheid van voëlsoorte met dié dat daar altyd voerbakkies orals vir hulle uitgesit word. ’n Mens het mos nou die wêreld se tyd om na die verskillende geluide te luister wat die voëls maak en dan hoor ’n mens dat elkeen eintlik iets te sê het! Vat nou maar vir die Rooioogtiptol met sy botterkol onder sy magie. Hy roep: “Wake up Gregory,

wake up Gregory!” Die kransduif roep weer: “Dit is “freeeaking” hoog!” Dan val die Diederik in met: “Die-die-diediererik!” Die kuifkophoutkapper se “Krrrrrr” klink kompleet soos ’n wekker waarvan die klokkie uitgehaal is, of soos ’n boorhamer wat ’n onderdeel kort. Ons almal ken die piet-myvrou se geroep, daarmee het ons grootgeword. Wanneer die rooibekkakelaars hul snawels oopmaak, klink hulle kompleet soos ’n klomp laggende vrouens op ’n henneparty. Die Indiesespreeu roep sy maat: “Rasheet, Rasheet!” Dit het my ’n rukkie gevat om die geelbeklyster te eien, maar toe hoor ek: “Peter, Peter sweet potato.” Dan sluit die ringnekduif af met: ”Voorspoed vir die nuwe jaar, voorspoed vir die nuwe jaar!”

The world-renowned international rugby star Seabelo Senatla, who grew up in Welkom, extended a hand of goodwill to underprivileged children in Thabong during his visit to his parents in December. Senatla (23), international sevens player of the year, visited the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Thabong, where he met children in need to whom he donated sets of new clothing. He had requested Col Pule Solo, SAPS visible policing commander in Thabong, to arrange the meeting with the children and underprivileged children were identified. Senatla said his heart went out to those who were not as fortunate as he was. “I did it out of kindness, because I will never forget my roots. If you forget where you come from, you will probably lose yourself. I am blessed with all of my achievements

Hy is in ’n Volkswagen Citi Golf ingedwing. Van die aanvallers het saam met die man in die een voertuig gery terwyl ander met die koerierdiens se voertuig weggery het. Hulle het met die twee voertuie naby Jan Cellierspark stilgehou. Hier het hulle van die pakkies in die Volkswagen Golf oorgelaai. Thakeng sê dit lyk asof die rowers net sekere pakkies uitgesoek het en van die pakkies met medisyne is net so gelaat. Die groep het in hul eie voertuig van die toneel gevlug, waarna die slagoffer hulp kon ontbied. Hy is erg aangerand en moes mediese behandeling ontvang. Thakeng sê die polisie ondersoek ’n klag van ontvoering, gewapende roof en diefstal. Mense wat die polisie met die ondersoek kan help, kan Welkom se polisie by die Jan Hofmeyr-polisiekantoor kontak.

Two rapists behind bars

The body of an unknown Lesotho national was found with multiple gunshot wounds at a house in Reitzpark last week. On 4 January at about 15:15 several gunshots were heard at house number 18, Cloete Street, Rheederspark, Welkom. On inspection, the owner of the house found the body of a Lesotho national with gunshot wounds. Four to five people were seen running

towards the nearby bushes. The deceased could be between 30 and 35 years old. The police were alerted and a case of murder was registered for further investigation. The suspects are still at large and residents are requested to assist in finding the suspects. Should anyone have information which will lead to the arrest of the suspects, they must contact Det.WO Dylan Saayman of Welkom Detective Services on 084-687-3014.

On Saturday (07/01) three members of one family were killed in a head-on collision on the road between Ventersburg and Hennenman. Two motor vehicles, a white VW Polo Vivo and a grey Renault Megane, was involved in the collision. The white Polo had five passengers, who sustained serious injuries. They were all taken to hospitals in Welkom. The male passenger of the Megane, the female driver and a two year-old child had died instantly. Two rapists from Odendaalsrus and one from Welkom were given a total of 42 years imprisonment following guilty verdicts for their crimes in December 2016. The first conviction in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court follows an incident on 14 February 2016 when a 19-yearold girl was raped and assaulted by two men. The victim was walking with her boyfriend when they were approached by four African men who attacked them. The boyfriend was pepper sprayed, robbed and then chased and thrown with stones. The other two then dragged the victim to Impucuko School where she was raped. A case of rape was registered and three suspects were arrested. The first suspect, Thamsanqa Mzini (19), received one year for theft and fifteen years for rape, the second suspect, Teboho Ishmael Radebe (24), received fifteen years for rape and the third suspect, Ledimo Donald Phogole (21), received one year for assault. Det.Const. Victoria Chauque was assigned the case and she arrested the three suspects. During the second incident, which occurred on 17 April 2016, Bete Alfred Ntamo (29) raped a 24-year-old victim in an open piece of veld in Dagbreek, Welkom. He was found guilty in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court and sentenced to ten years in jail. Capt. Yolanda Hulme was the investigating officer. “I am very happy and proud of these two investigators who ensured that thorough investigations were conducted and which subsequently led to these heavy sentences for the three rapists. I would like to applaud the overall performance of all the members throughout 2016. We will continue to work together with the Justice Department to ensure that these people, committing heinous crimes in our societies, are removed and put in jail, where they belong,” says Welkom Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS) commander Capt. Bizzah Ntsiane.

Groot ontevredenheid onder inwoners van Hennenman oor die sonering van erwe in die dorp wat eensydig verander is, het daartoe gelei dat die inwoners nou met ’n regsaksie teen die Matjhabeng-munisipaliteit begin het. Die erwe in Steynstraat wat voorheen as sakepersele gesoneer was, word tans vir mediumgrootte industriële doeleindes gebruik. Die onderneming Tombco sny graniet vir grafstene op die erwe. Die eienaars het aansoek gedoen om die erwe te laat hersoneer en spesiale toestemming is in Augustus verlede jaar aan die maatskappy verleen. Die stadsbeplanner Koos Duvenage het toestemming gegee dat die erwe vir industriële doeleindes gebruik mag word. Hy het intussen afgetree. Die inwoners van Havengaville, ’n klein woonbuurt van Hennenman, sê egter niemand het hulle in die aansoek geken nie. Geen omgewingsimpakstudie, soos deur die wet vereis, is gedoen nie en geen vergaderings is met inwoners van omliggende erwe belê nie. Sover vasgestel kon word, is die aansoek ook nooit op ’n raadsvergadering, soos deur die wet vereis, bespreek nie. Die stof en geraas is volgens inwoners onuithoudbaar en verlaag hul lewensgehalte. Die firma Neumann en Van Rooyen het Dinsdag (10/01) ’n brief aan die kantore van die munisipale bestuurder en ruimtelike beplanning oorhan-

In 2016, St Andrew’s School in Welkom again celebrated a 100% IEB National Senior Certificate pass. The school has enjoyed a 100% pass rate since its first ever matriculants in 1994. The school’s top individual results were Kobus Matthee who achieved eight distinctions, followed by Reitumetse Sefo who achieved seven distinctions. Another outstanding result was Tracy Clarke who achieved three distinctions. The school also made history as two of its matric pupils wrote Sotho as their first additional language. Both learners achieved a distinction. Kobus Matthee was in the top 1% of all IEB results in the country for Life Science.

Alltogether 72% of the school’s matriculants achieved the standard required for degree study at a university and 69% of all subject results were C symbols or better. The school’s 25 candidates achieved 24 A’s, (13% of all symbols), 48 B’s (27%) and 51 C’s (28%). The principal of St Andrew’s, Werner Grobbelaar, said he is satisfied with the results. “I am very proud of these results. They show once again why we have such a strong academic reputation in the region. St Andrew’s has never had a matric failure and we are now consistently achieving more than 70% university entrance passes,” he said. Grobbelaar says that although the 2016 class had a relatively long “tail”, each candidate achieved either a diploma or a bachelor degree pass.

The St Dominic’s College in Welkom has recorded a 100% matric pass rate for the 2016 academic year. Of the candidates who completed the IEB examination, 93% (41) achieved a bachelor degree pass, with a further 7% (3) achieving a diploma pass. Jessica Tonks was the outstanding performer, achieving seven distinctions, whilst Daniella Freitas (listed amongst the IEBs top 1% in Business Studies) and Aqeel Hatia both achieved five distinctions.

Die leerlinge, wat albei in die skool se koshuis tuisgegaan het, was op die dag dat hulle die tweede Sotho-vraestel moes skryf, met waterpokkies siek. Volgens Christelle Ferreira, die skool se skakelpersoneellid, het hulle verkies om steeds die vraestel te voltooi. “Hulle was baie siek. Ek was veral bekommerd oor Thembiso se hoë koors. Hy moes boonop die volgende dag fisiese wetenskap skryf en kon die nag skaars ’n oog toemaak. “ ’n Paar ander leerlinge het ook intussen waterpokkies opgedoen. Die kinders met waterpokkies het met gesigmaskers aan geskryf om te voorkom dat die ander by hulle aansteek,” sê sy. Met die skryf van die eerste Sotho-vraestel was daar ’n kragonderbreking en moes die kragopwekker eers aan die gang gekry word. Thembiso wil vanjaar ingenieurswese studeer en Karabo inligtingstegnologie.

Een van die sentrale streek se voorste presteerders in die onafhanklike eksamen gaan sy akademiese loopbaan in Amerika voortsit. Kobus Matthee van Riebeeckstad, wat sy skoolloopbaan aan die St. Andrew-skool in Welkom voltooi het, het agt onderskeidings behaal. Hy het keuring van die Universiteit van Texas-Arlington gekry om meganiese ingenieurswese te studeer. Sy suster, Yolandé (20), studeer medies daar en was in 2014 een van St. Andrew se toppresteerders. Kobus het onderskeidings in Afrikaans (huistaal), Engels (huistaal), wiskunde, gevorderde wiskunde, geskiedenis, lewensoriëntering, fisiese wetenskap en lewenswetenskap ingeryg. Sy beste vak was lewenswetenskap en sy gunstelingvak wiskunde. “Ek het Donderdagaand net voor middernag my uitslae elektronies ontvang. My ouers (drs. Pieter en Elsabé Matthee, albei veeartse) het al geslaap, maar ek het hulle met die goeie nuus wakker gemaak. “Ek het die aand besonder lekker geslaap. Dit was ’n groot verligting,” het dié skrander leerling gesê. Hy moet hom eers in Augustus in Amerika aanmeld, wanneer die universiteit se akademiese jaar begin. Tot dan beplan Kobus om geld as

Ek wou boonop nog altyd Amerika toe gaan en dit is dus ’n goeie geleentheid dié. “My ouers voel tegelyk bly en hartseer dat albei hul kinders nou in die buiteland gaan wees. “Ons gaan ver van die huis wees, maar hulle wil ook net die beste vir ons hê.” Kobus was op skool by ’n goeie mengsel van kultuur en sport betrokke. Hy het hokkie gespeel, geswem, viool en klavier geneem en perd gery.

Reahola residents are stuggling with houses that lost roofing due to a storm. On Wednesday (04/12) there was a powerful storm in Welkom

and eight houses in block F at Reahola Housing in Bedelia were left roofless. These families cannot stay in their houses. Due to heavy rain lately, it has also been a struggle to make sure that their belongings are not destroyed.

The African Pastors Conference (APC), established in 2008, is an international organisation. It reaches out and has a vision to equip, train and encourage primarily pastors on the African continent. The APC is, however, also accessible to anyone who is in the ministry. The organisation hosts around 50 conferences in the Southern Africa region. It now reaches further afield to East Africa (Kenya) and West Africa (Lagos and Abuja in Nigeria). The conferences are usually over the course of two days. Each year there is a different theme with speakers from the continent and further afield (the United Kingdom and America). Priority is to ensure safety The old St Helena Shaft 3, an incline vent shaft which is guarded by Bidvest Protea Coin on a 24/7 basis, appears to be of strategic importance to the illegal miners and they are clearly getting more aggressive in trying to secure their access to the underground areas. So says Marian van der Walt, executive: corporate and investor relations Harmony Gold Mine, after an aggressive attack by zama-zamas (illegal miners) on the security at the vent shaft on 23 November. One security guard was killed in the attack and one guard was lightly injured. No arrests were made after a group of between 60 and 80 illegal miners attacked the handful of security guards with a variety of assault rifles, 9 mm pistols and petrol bombs. No arrests were made. The day after the attack, fourteen illegal miners were arrested as they came to the surface at this shaft. “Harmony has done very well in the last couple of years rehabilitating the areas and mines we no longer use. We have taken down close to 30 head gear. In terms of our environmental responsibilities, we are continuing with our good work, which includes the St Helena mines. We continue to fix up the areas we have operated in responsibly,” says Van der Walt. She says illegal mining has become more acute since 1999. Illegal immigrants, former and existing mine employees are involved in this crime. A criminal miner is a trespasser who enters a shaft illegally, in contravention of health and safety legislation, with the intent of mining and removing gold-bearing material. “The external threats we are faced with as mining

Harmony Gold Mine’s key priority is to ensure the safety of its employees. Harmony also has to ensure adherence to all legislation pertaining to mining and extracting the country’s minerals. Van der Walt says the safety of Harmony’s employees comes first. “We continue implementing reasonably practicable measures to combat illegal mining; mining companies have done so in the past and will continue doing so in future, but government intervention is key to solving this problem. “We continue our participation in illegal mining stakeholder forums and ongoing stakeholder participation and actions required.” Illegal mining is an organised crime and should be acknowledged by all stakeholders as such.

Illegal mining global problem The costs of fighting criminal mining are substantial and will differ from one company to the next. “Having said that though, the loss of life cannot be measured in monetary terms,” says Marian van der Walt, executive: corporate and investor relations at Harmony Gold Mine. The risks which need to be managed include loss of life, unsafe workplaces, illegal use of explosives, fire, ventilation and flooding, the loss of prime product (gold bearing material), the loss of other assets (equipment/copper cable/explosives), financial losses (fraud and corruption), the closure of mines as a result of explosive violations and fatalities resulting and the financial losses (gold bearing material being stolen). Illegal mining is a global problem involving local and international syndicates. Harmony Gold Mine has various initiatives in place to deal with illegal mining. “Over and above rehabilitating the areas, we also concentrate on access

controls at our operations. Harmony has introduced biometrics (hand scanners) at most of our mines and clocking systems have been inspected, tested and upgraded where necessary to prevent mine employees selling their access control cards,” says Van der Walt. Harmony Gold Mine has introduced numerous checks and balances to combat illegal mining and to secure its operations. These include cautionary notices affixed to all closedoff areas identifying relevant hazards and risks. Turnstile gates leading to shaft areas, bank areas and crush clocking areas were upgraded in order to prevent illegal miners from entering. “Mothballed shafts which are plugged or closed by rock dump material are regularly inspected to ensure seals are still effective and shaft entrances are guarded,” she says. The latest applicable technology in access control is applied, explosives control audits are conducted by the police, all money found on miners surfacing

or going underground is seized pending departmental and criminal action, daily inspections of material cars on shaft heads for food parcels and illegal entries are done, food and money quantities for underground mine employees are defined, searches are done, excess food and money are confiscated, disciplinary code applied and guilty parties are criminally charged. Harmony Gold Mine is building up an online intelligence database of illegals and accomplices to prevent access to its operations. In its on-going fight against illegal mining, Harmony Gold Mine deployed additional security guards at all shafts. Several successful operations have been carried out with the co-operation of the SAPS and security forces. Security personnel investigate all incidents and apprehended miners are encouraged to identify their contacts inside and outside the mine. Plea bargaining is alsoconsidered.

Harmony has zero tolerance against crime Harmony Gold Mine has a zero tolerance policy. “Harmony’s Asset Management Forum (AMF) monitors all security alarms and operational issues at the closed shafts in the region. Mine employees arrested for illegal mining activities are criminally charged,” says Marian van der Walt, executive: corporate and investor relations Harmony Gold Mine. Harmony has regular discussions with the various stakeholders. These include awareness programmes presented to employees on ethics, honesty and integrity, economic impact and loss of job opportunities.

“Several visits to other mines and mining groups were done. We will continue to evaluate the best practices in access control. There were meetings with the Minister of Mineral Resources confirming that illegal mining is an organised crime,” Van der Walt says. “Harmony has held meetings with the Economic Development Committee, the various communities, businesses and local council committed to participate in combating illegal mining. “A local stakeholder forum was formed to address illegal mining. Several meetings were held with the Department of Justice, the National

Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the South African Police Service (SAPS). The police’s Forfeiture Unit cooperates with us,” says Van der Walt. “There are regular discussions with organised labour with the aim to inform them of the dangers of illegal mining, why it threatens the existence of the company and to get their buy-in to encourage their members not to participate in dealing and assisting illicit mining activities.” Vista readers are encouraged to contact Harmony Gold Mine’s anonymous ethics hotline to report illegal mining activities on 0800-2123-39.

Daarby gaan instrukteurs aangestel word om hulle te help om leerwerk, naaldwerk en die maak van skoene onder die knie te kry. Die lokaal, waarin 20 pasiënte op ’n slag opgelei sal kan word, is byna voltooi. Die tafels is hoog genoeg sodat mense in rolstoele maklik daar oor die weg sal kan kom. Die opleiding sal hulle in staat stel om tot die arbeidsmark toe te tree. Dit sal gestemdes ook inspireer om ’n pad na sukses te stap en om sosio-ekonomiese probleme te oorbrug, sê Marissa Nel,

Die oudste marathon in die Vrystaat, die AEL-mieliemarathon, word op 21 Januarie vir die 39ste keer in Welkom aangebied. Dit sal ook die 36ste keer wees wat die legendariese langasem Louis Massyn dié 42 km aandurf. Die marathon, wat deur Goudveld-Multisport aangebied word, dien as kwalifiseerder vir die moordende Comrades-ultramarathon, asook die Twee Oseane-ultramarathon. Atlete kan ook aan die 21 km- en 10 km-wedlope deelneem. Die wegspring en eindstreep is op die sportterrein van die Hoër Tegniese Skool in Volksweg, Welkom, langs die brandweerstasie. Deelnemers aan die marathon spring om 05:30 weg. Die 21 km- en 10 km-wed-

lope begin om 06:00. Vanjaar is daar ook ’n 5 km-pretloop. Die wedlope word onder die reëls van Atletiek SuidAfrika (ASA) en die Internasionale Vereniging van Atletiekfederasies (IAAF) aangebied. Atlete kan Vrydag 20 Januarie by die wegspringpunt hulself inskryf, asook die dag van die byeenkoms van 04:00 af. Daar sal voldoende verversingspunte op die roete deur Odendaalsrus wees. Die eerste Mieliemarathon is in 1979 aangebied. Die roete wat gevolg is, was van Wesselsbron na Odendaalsrus. Altesaam 99 atlete het daardie dag die marathon voltooi. Vanjaar word sowat 750 atlete verwag. Alle voltooiers sal ’n medalje ontvang en daar is ook T-hemde vir die eerste 100 atlete beskikbaar.

Verskeie kontantpryse kan ook in die verskillende ouderdomsgroepe gewen word. Stappers en rolstoelatlete is welkom om deel te neem. Atlete kom van oor die land heen om aan dié wedlope deel te neem. Die langasem Buks van Heerden het hom reeds ingeskryf. Hy behoort aan die Born to Run-hardloopklub van Meyerton. Atlete kan by sy vyf-urehardloopbus aansluit, waarvoor hy bekend is. AEL borg die wedloop vanjaar vir die 11de keer. Leerlinge aan die Laerskool Brandwag in Odendaalsrus gaan die roete deur die dorp aanwys.
