Klagtes van oor die Goudveld heen oor waterlekke, rioollekke, stukkende straatligte, slaggate en swak dienslewering stroom daagliks in na Vista se kantoor. Met die aanbreek van die winter kan dae sonder water, krag of behoorlike rioolafvoer chaos in huishoudings veroorsaak. Gedeeltes van Riebeeckstad was sedert Saterdag (27/05) van omstreeks 17:00 tot Maandag (29/05) omstreeks 20:30 sonder water. Vista is met honderde ontstoke inwoners se oproepe oorval, nie weens die doen van herstelwerk nie, maar omdat daar nie genoegsame kennisgewing rakende die herstelwerk gegee is nie. Inwoners kon nie voorberei vir die bykans drie dae sonder water nie. Ingevolge wet mag inwoners wel sonder krag gelaat word, maar onder geen omstandighede sonder water, wat ’n lewensnoodsaaklikheid is, nie, veral nie vir lang tydperke nie. Die munisipaliteit het wel Saterdag ’n kort kennisgewing aan drie radiostasies, Lesedi FM, OFM en die plaaslike stasie Gold FM 104.3, gestuur. “Doen asseblief die herstelwerk, want die hele Matjhabeng het dit nodig, maar gee inwoners vroegtydig kennis om rondom die herstelwerk te beplan,” het ’n inwoner van Riebeeckstad, Chimo Atolo, gesê. Rioolklagtes is amper net soveel soos klagtes oor waterlekke. Inwoners van veral Thabong en Kutlwanong, Odendaalsrus, word hierdeur geraak. Die kwessies word onsuksesvol aan die Matjhabeng-munisipaliteit gerapporteer. Vullis word die afgelope twee maande al teen ’n slakkepas verwyder. By navraag is gesê dat daar nie genoeg vragmotors is om vullis te verwyder nie. ’n Inwoner van Allanridge sê dat hul vullis die afgelope vyf weke nog nie verwyder is nie. “Vir die afgelope drie weke is ons vullis in Flamingo Park nie verwyder

An armed robbery and an attempted robbery within 24 hours in Langeberg Road, St Helena, have left residents nervous and anxious. On Sunday (28/05) at 21:00, four young men, one armed with a gun, forcefully entered the home of a middle-aged couple. Before they entered the house, the electricity supply in the house was cut off and the woman, who was already in bed, stumbled down the passage to check the electricity distribution box at the front door. Her husband, who was still awake, also went to the box. Everything seemed in order, but they could see that the street lights were still on. Her husband decided to go outside to find the cause of the problem. Just as he opened the door, the four men, who had disabled the electricity at the outside box, burst into the house. They immediately demanded money and guns. “I told them we do not have money or guns, but that they were welcome to look,” says the homeowner who does not want to be named. “My husband and I were forced to sit in chairs. They said they would not hurt us if we did not offer resistance.” The men took eight guitars, two

amplifiers, a flat screen television, watches and a small amount of money. The couple was not hurt. The homeowners are offering a R2 000 reward for the recovery of a Takamine Acoustic Electric guitar, 50 Year Edition EF341C. “We confirm that a house robbery was registered after four unknown males entered a house in St Helena,” says Const. Kethabile Mofokeng. “No injuries were reported and the suspects managed to get away with two cellphones, money and bank cards. The suspects gained entrance after they tripped the electricity. One of the four suspects was armed.” Anyone with information about this guitar or the other stolen instruments and equipment can dial 073-178-14353. The second incident happened just after 00:00 on Tuesday (30/05). Robbers attempted to enter another address in Langeberg Road. The residents alerted the security firms and the policing forum on WhatsApp. The robbers’ attempts to gain access were unsuccessful. At a meeting on Tuesday evening, residents in the area were warned to be on the alert. “Do not exit your homes when you notice something suspicious outside. Check that the interior of your home is secure. Let assistance come from outside. Do not exit your home,” said Capt. Andries Coetzee of the St Helena Police Forum.

Vullissakke net daar gelos M. Agrella, Bedelia: ’n Voorval wat ek graag met ander wil deel, het op Sondag 14 Mei in Bedelia plaasgevind toe ons vullissakke deur die munisipaliteit opgelaai moes word. Ek woon in Montaquestraat. My man was buite besig toe een van die werkers wat die sakke oplaai, na hom roep en vir vleis en brood vra. My man het haar geantwoord dat hy nie het nie. Ons het gehoor dié werker sê vir een van die ander werkers iets. Ek het my man gevra wat fout was en hy het geantwoord dat hy nie weet wat aangaan nie. Dié spesifieke werker vra toe hoekom daar so baie sakke is. Ek het haar geantwoord dat dit is omdat hulle drie weke laas vullis by my huis kom oplaai het. Ek het vir haar gesê ek betaal my tariewe, hulle moet die sakke maar laai. Sy het iets gesê, maar ek kon nie hoor wat nie.

So is hulle verby om die volgende sakke op te tel en ons het agter gekom hulle het nie ons vullissakke gelaai nie. My man ry toe na die lorrie toe en hy vra vir die bestuurder hoekom hulle nie ons sakke gelaai het nie. Hy het geantwoord dat dit te veel sakke was, en dat daar nie plek vir dié sakke was nie. My man los toe die saak, en hulle het aangegaan om sakke te laai. Soos die dag verloop het, het ons gery en ek het agtergekom dat hulle al die mense in ons straat se sakke gelaai het, net nie myne nie. Ek meen dit is nie reg nie. Ek betaal my diensterekening, maar gaan dit nou oor of jy bereid is om brood en vleis te gee of nie? Dus wil hulle hê ’n mens moet hulle betaal om jou vullis te verwyder. As jy nie iets gee nie, los hulle jou vullissakke net daar. Ek wil graag hierdie ondervinding met ander deel sodat ander ook hiervan weet.

het met dié raad. Ek is ’n pyn wat ’n onopgemaakte katel betref. Voor ek nog mooi wakker is, is my katel met al die fraaie kussinkies en beddegoed opgemaak. Ek sal tien dode sterf as ek in ’n deurmekaarspul van beddegoed my nagrus moet geniet. Dit is toe dat ek vir hom vertel van die artikel en verduidelik wat alles verkeerd kan gaan met die Tarragoempies as slaapmaatjies toe die ligte gesnork my laat besef hy het vrede met die Tarragoempies. Hy is in elk geval nie een vir lees nie . . .

Het jy geweet … Indien jy of 'n geliefde beseer is in 'n motorongeluk (behalwe wanneer die bestuurder die oorsaak van die ongeluk was), of indien jy 'n afhanklike is van 'n oorlede padongelukslaggoffer, kan jy moontlik 'n eis teen die Padongelukkefonds indien. Die Padongelukkefonds is 'n openbare entiteit wat befonds word deur 'n brandstofheffing wat by die prys van petrol en diesel ingesluit is. Die doel van die Padongelukkefonds is om te vergoed vir verlies of skade as gevolg van ligaamlike beserings weens die nalatige bestuur van 'n voertuig op Suid-Afrikaanse paaie.

The Deo Doxa AFM Church in Welkom is 65 years old. The church, now known as AFM Deo Doxa, was founded in 1952. Various pastors have had the privilege to minister as leaders of this church. “We want to take this opportunity to salute and thank all our predecessors who played a part, each writing a chapter in God’s book for this church. We’ve celebrated a wonderful birthday month. We are thankful to God for His goodness and mercy that He so richly bestowed on us throughout all these years,”

George Mahlobo, on 21 May during their 65th birthday celebration. “He gave a powerful message with regard to the involvement and relevance of the church, not only in relation to its members, but also in relation to the community. His message emphasised that we as assemblies must be channels of change,” says Botes. AFM Deo Doxa’s vision focuses on empowering each

member to bring hope and healing in their communities and that each member may be healed, taught and sent to make a difference. “We believe this is the chapter God has called us to write in His book for this church. Members must be in a discipleship process so that they may grow to resemble the character of Jesus in their daily living. “We believe true change is possible if the members of various churches and the community take hands to become channels of change wherever they find themselves,” says Botes.

Meters tampered with Marti Will

A suspect has been arrested for large-scale meter tampering in the Bothaville and Viljoenskroon region. After an investigation of nearly 18 months, an employee of an Eskom contractor has been arrested on charges of suspected corruption. The suspect, who presented himself as an Eskom employee, is suspected of bypassing electricity meters on

farms in the Bothaville and Viljoenskroon area. The suspect allegedly offered to â&#x20AC;&#x153;calibrate metersâ&#x20AC;?, which would supposedly result in lower electricity usage, and charged the customers between R2 300 and R10 000 per meter. After a tip-off, Eskom approached the Hawks, who investigated the matter and eventually caught him red-handed on Friday (26/05). As a result, Eskom will be auditing all electricity

meters on farms in the Bothaville and Viljoenskroon area. Customers whose meters have been tampered with face tampering fees of up to R35 000, arrear consumption as calculated and possible prosecution. Anyone with information that might benefit the investigation can call Eskom on 051-404-2277 during office hours. Electricity theft can be reported anonymously by sending an SMS to 32211 (R1 per SMS).

Public assistance needed to find two rape suspects The police are investigating a case of rape after two girls (14 and 15) were raped in an open veld in Riebeeckstad while they were on their way to buy airtime. According to one of the victims, she and her cousin were on their way to a shop near the Koppie Alleen Primary School in Blenheim Street on 6 April at around 20:10. Two African men, unknown to the girls, approached them and asked them where they were coming from. Both men had knives in their possession. They demanded money and cellphones from the girls.

The girls told them that they only have one cellphone. The suspects took the cellphone and raped both girls. No suspects have been arrested, and the police are appealing to the community to assist in this matter. An identikit of the suspects was compiled. One suspect is light in

complexion, slender and approximately 1,8 m in height. He has short hair and a moustache and was wearing a black jacket and black pants. The second suspect is dark in complexion, slender and approximately 1,7 m in height. He was wearing a black sports hat, black jacket, black pants and black sneakers. Should anyone have information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of the suspects, call Det.Const. Een van die oudste, indien nie dié oudste, inwoners van die Goudveld het Dinsdag (30/05) haar 105de verjaardag in Odendaalsrus gevier. Ouma Jane Mothabi is sedert 7 Mei 2010 ’n inwoner van die Mevrou President Steyn-tehuis vir verswakte bejaardes in die dorp. Sy sien en hoor nie meer te goed nie, maar met haar eetlus skort daar niks nie. Sy eet elke dag haar kos en soos die meeste oues van dae, het sy ’n voorliefde vir soetgoed. Sy eet self en dit is nie nodig om haar te voer nie, sê Marinda du Plooy, bestuurder van die tehuis. Op haar verjaardag wou sy kort-kort weet waar die koek is.

Marinda sê ouma Jane is ’n toonbeeld van goeie gesondheid. Sy word nooit siek nie. Al medikasie wat sy kry, is vitamien-aanvullings. “Haar bloeddruk is normaal en sy kry nooit verkoue of griep nie.” Lede van die vroue-liga van die Metodistekerk het vir haar ’n partytjie gereël. ’n Spesiale koek is hiervoor gebak. Die sowat 20 vroue het sakke vol snoepery gebring en vir ouma Jane gesing. Lede van die vroue-liga besoek die tehuis een of twee keer ’n maand en bring dan lekkernye en sakkies lemoene vir al die bejaardes. Ouma Jane het twee dogters, ses kleinkinders en drie agterkleinkinders. Haar oudste dogter is 82 jaar oud en haar oudste kleindogter 37.

Die nood is groot. Ons het veral skoolskoene en winterklere soos truie nodig. “Ek wil die organisasie graag registreer, maar dit gaan R1 450 kos. Ek het hulp nodig om die registrasie te bewerkstellig.” Sy wil ook graag die klere en ander skenkings in ’n veilige plek stoor, maar hiervoor is ’n sentrale gebou of stoorkamer nodig. “Omdat ou klere geskenk word, is baie daarvan vuil. The musician Petronella Worship Warrior has finally received her big break. She has started working with the local TK Ntsepe and Afom Beats Productions. Her dream of becoming a successful artist from the North-West is now being realised after record label owner TK Ntsepe noticed her talent. Petronella and her family lived in Bothaville. Coming from a poverty-stricken

background, Petronella says her latest achievement was proof that anything is possible with God. After years of singing at her church, Petronella said she was excited about working on her debut album, moving forward from a long time of struggling. “I have never lost hope. Even when other people told me I could not make it, I kept on believing. “Now, with dedication and trust, I have

made it,” says Petronella. “This means that I have achieved one of my dreams and I will make South Africa proud. “It is not only an opportunity for me – through my success, other artists will also be exposed,” she says. You must have passed a Blasting Certificate and area-specific training modules for the logistics role at a Crew Captain level in mining. NIGHT SHIFT CLEANER Band C2 In this role, you will fulfil a shift role in an underground area and will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of persons in his/her team and for persons entering his/her area of responsibility and the planning and ordering of tools, material and equipment. You will also effectively clean and tram the working area. For this role you need Standard 8/Grade 10 Numeracy or Literacy (ABET 4), a Blasting Certificate, Certificate of Fitness and relevant experience as a Night Shift Cleaner or equivalent. SHIFT SUPERVISORS Band C5 The Shift Supervisor Mining has the legal accountability with a 2.15.1 appointment in terms of the Minerals Act and Regulations and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with legal requirements and management specifics, and the completion of records pertaining to his/her area of responsibility, as stipulated by the regulations. A Grade 10, valid Blasting Certificate and 3 years’ experience as a Stoping Miner/ Crew Captain are required. Christina Schonken, ’n leerling aan die Laerskool Odensia, het ’n tiende plek in Suid-Afrika behaal op die geslote skaakkampioenskapsbyeenkoms wat in Johannesburg in die April-skoolvakansie gehou is.

The team of biathletes of the St Dominic’s College High did well at the South African Championship event held in the Paarl on 8 April. Neil Marais and Joshua Potgieter both participated in the u.17 age group, with Neil being placed eighth overall in South Africa. He did his personal best times in both the running and swimming legs of the race. Joshua finished 23rd and did his personal best time in the 2 000 m run. Neil and Joshua ran a splendid 2 000 m race and ended first and second respectively. Jarrett van den Berg took part in the u.15 age group and finished 39th. Alessio Salvado, Declan Mansill (both u.9) and Ayden de Beer (u.13) also participated in the championship event.
