Verkragting ondersoek Vrou glo bedwelm, toegesluit

Municipality ordered not to introduce unapproved tariffs Marti Will ON Wednesday morning the DA in Matjhabeng delivered a lawyer’s letter to the Matjhabeng Local Municipality ordering them to refrain from further introducing the new electricity step-up tariffs which were not approved.
“The approved electricity tariff increase of 7,39% will be effected retrospectively with effect from 1 July 2014,” states the letter. “The step-up tariffs were invented by officials of the municipality and not by the municipal council, which render these tariffs unenforceable by law.”
The municipal manager’s failure to provide an answer by Friday (tomorrow) with confirmation that the illegal step-up tariff will be discarded, and the legally-approved 7,39% tariff reinstated retrospectively from 1 July, will result in the DA approaching the Supreme Court for an order declaring the
current electricity tariffs to be not approved. The municipality and/or the municipal manager (in his personal capacity) will be held liable for such unnecessary litigation costs, states the letter. ) Read more about the tariffs and other municipal issues on p 9.
