Die vrou, wat deur die klubbestuur as kroegmeisie aangestel is, is waarskynlik só “ingelyf” as sekswerker omdat sy onwillig was om teen betaling met mans seks te hê.

Weens die erns van die klag en omdat sy reeds doodsdreigemente ontvang het, woon sy tans in ’n plek van veiligheid.

Volgens ’n verklaring van die vrou is sy na Welkom gelok om by die Moments-klub as kroegmeisie diens te doen. Kort nadat

sy hier begin werk het, het die bestuur van die klub glo druk op haar begin uitoefen om ook as sekswerker afsprake met mans te maak.

Sy het nie kans gesien nie, maar ál meer druk is glo op haar geplaas. Omdat sy sonder heenkome is, het sy in ’n stadium wel ingestem om “te probeer”. Vir dié vrou was dit egter ’n moeilike stap om te doen.

Die bestuur het haar na bewering ongeveer twee weke gelede so erg bedwelm dat sy haar nie kon teësit nie. Terwyl sy so bedwelm was, is SMS’e glo uitgestuur wat van die klub se gewaardeerde kliënte nooi om seks met haar te hê. Die vrou is die volgende dag deur ’n ander werknemer by

die klub gehelp om die polisie te bel. Die klubbestuur het agtergekom sy het die polisie gebel en het haar na bewering met klere en al uitgeboender waarna die polisie haar kom oplaai en sy ’n verklaring afgelê het.

Vier mense, ’n man en drie vroue, is kort hierna in hegtenis geneem en is sedertdien in aanhouding.

Die staat staan borgtog teen omdat die ondersoek in ’n baie sensitiewe stadium is. Geldwassery word saam met die seksuele klagte ondersoek.

THE Matjhabeng Local Municipality continues to ignore the will of the people and is stubbornly resisting the implementation of the legally approved electricity tariff.

On Tuesday the DA in Matjhabeng officially started legal action against the municipality in the Supreme Court. They approached the court for an order declaring the current step-up electricity tariffs to be not approved or implemented.

This follows the delivery of a lawyer’s letter last week to the acting municipal manager of Matjhabeng, Mothusi Lepheane, ordering the municipality to refrain from further introducing the new electricity step-up tariff which was not approved on the 2014-’15 budget. In the meanwhile Evyn Thorne, president of the Matjhabeng Ratepayers’ Association (MRPA), has issued a hard-hitting statement.

“Our letters dated 9 September declaring a dispute with the Matjhabeng Municipality against incorrect electricity tariffs has fallen on deaf ears. Letters to the mayor, the chief financial officer and the acting municipal manager, Nersa, Eskom, Cogta, the provincial and the national government have attracted no reaction or acknowledgement. This is just another tactic by the municipality to disregard the needs and aspirations of the ratepayers and consumers. The MRPA has been in contact with Eskom and Nersa at the highest level and await reply to the request to place Matjhabeng under administration,” says Thorne.

He says as far as is known, nobody at the municipality has made arrangements to adjust or correct the electricity tariff.

“The MRPA sees this as just another shortfall and another nail in the coffin of local authority unable and incapable of competent administration. Dispute forms have been hand-delivered to the municipal manager’s office with no official acceptance.

The MRPA sees no light at the end of the tunnel. Wasteful expenditure continues and nobody seems to want to take serious responsibility for the bureaucratic crisis.

Do the honourable thing, Mr Mayor, resign and hand over the Matjhabeng Local Municipality to a qualified administrator,” says Thorne.

Claws facing closure CLAWS ANIMAL WELFARE in Welkom is facing closure. This society is driven and managed by donations from the public. It receives no grants or subsidies.

“The society currently cares for in excess of 130 animals that have no homes and no place to go should Claws shut their doors. Although we have some wonderful supporters who regularly help us, we do not have enough continuous funds coming in. We need urgent support from businesses and members of the public in order to stay open,” says Rochelle Tonks of Claws.

She says the personnel have not been paid in the last three months.

“They are, however, still committed to the animals they care for and have stayed on,” says Rochelle.

Claws staff members use their own vehicles, fuel and cellphones in order to respond to call outs.

“The cost of this is all funded by the staff themselves. The number of animals coming in is astounding and each animal is extensively advertised on Facebook and in the newspaper in order to find homes

Remains sent home A BANGLADESHI MAN was killed in Theunissen last week.

He was shot by an unknown assailant. At the time of his death Muzibar Rahman, a shopkeeper, was involved in a property dispute. The case went to court and the magistrate found in favour of Rahman.

The Bangladeshi community collected money to send his body to Bangladesh.

Man nearly killed TWO men were stabbed, one almost fatally, when they were attacked by six armed men and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money.

On 16 September at 17:15 six unknown men entered Fashion City situated at Manny’s in Power Road, Welkom. Four of them blocked the entrance to the shop and two attacked the two men managing the shop.

They forcefully took an undisclosed amount of cash

from the till. Both victims aged 52 and 26 were stabbed.

The 26-year-old sustained stab wounds to the lungs and head and was admitted to hospital.

The suspects are still at large. A case of business robbery and attempted murder is being investigated.

DIE hartseerverhaal van Alice, ’n sekswerker, is die verhaal van baie an­ der vroue in Suid­Afrika wat hul brood en botter in die oudste beroep verdien. Aanranding deur mans en uitbuiting deur private klubs is deel van hul daaglikse bestaan.

“DIT het gevoel of dit ek was.”

So vertel ’n sekswerker nadat sy verlede week in Vista oor die verkragting van ’n vrou in die Moments-klub gelees het. Alice, ’n voormalige sekswerker, vertel van uitbuiting, mishandeling, seksuele misbruik en dwelmmisbruik.

Haar verhaal is die verhaal van die working girls van sogenaamde private klubs oral in Suid-Afrika.

Sy steek ’n sigaret op, haar hande bewe en in haar oë sien jy die seerkry wat sy saamdra.

Jare as sekswerker het sy merk gelaat, Alice het duur betaal.

Haar stem is skor as sy vertel hoe ’n dag in die lewe van ’n working girl verloop. En al klink die geld goed, die prys is hoog. Die boetes, heffings en kommissie aan die klubs maak boonop dat daar nie veel geld oorbly nie.

Die pyn van die werk eis sy tol en sonder dwelms en drank om jou siel te verdoof sal ’n vrou moeilik ’n enkele dag as sekswerker oorleef.

Om aangerand te word, verwurg te word en soms vir jou lewe te vlug is vir die working girls deel van hul werk.

Maar hoekom dan?

Alice vertel hoe ’n man van Virginia haar een aand as metgesel bespreek het. Hy en sy vriend het haar om 01:30 kom oplaai en saam is hulle na die man se huis. Die bespreking was vir een man, maar kort nadat hulle by die man se huis gekom het, het dinge handuit geruk. Dié twee mans en ’n derde man het Alice gegryp en om die beurt verkrag.

Sy vertel hoe die huis met sy Bloubulvlag en -kroeg haar sal bybly. Tot vandag toe spook dit by haar dat sy ook daardie nag ’n vrou en kind in die huis gesien het. “ ‘Ons moes nog ’n girl gekry het,’ het een van die mans ná ’n ruk gesê.”

Alice het gesê een van haar vriendinne sal belang stel. Dit was duidelik dat sy in gevaar was en sy kon hulle ompraat om terug te ry Welkom toe. Hulle is terug na die klub waar sy weer buite die klub gewelddadig verkrag is. Een van die klub se werknemers het die

mans verdryf en die klub verbied.

Iemand het haar hospitaal toe geneem.

Sy het die volgende dag in die Bongani-hospitaal wakker geword.

Sy was so erg gesodomiseer dat sy steke moes kry en een van haar eierstokke is verwyder. Terwyl sy nog in die hospitaal was en skaars kon praat, het van die klub se bestuurslede haar gedreig om nie klagte by die polisie in te dien nie.

Sy is aangesê om stil te bly oor die voorval aangesien sy haar blyplek en werk kwyt sou wees.

Haar geld vir die vreeslike afspraak wat byna haar dood veroorsaak het, het sy nooit gesien nie. Dit is gebruik om vir “koste” te betaal terwyl sy ’n ruk lank nie kon werk nie. Vir haar was dit ’n laagtepunt in haar lewe.

Kort hierna het dinge vir haar verander en vandag lei sy ’n lewe ver weg van seks vir geld, dwelms om die pyn weg te hou en die vernederings wat elke sekswerker moet verduur wanneer mans met vreemde behoeftes geld op die tafel sit. Vreemde mans, byna altyd getroud. Mans met geld en aansien.

Mans wat dikwels in skole se beheerrade, kerkrade en myne se direksies dien.

Social cohesion needed GIDEON VAN DEVENTER, Nehemiaprojek: HOW often have you read or heard these words also echoed in Vista: “We are appealing to the business sector and potential employers to assist in the employment of these people to enable them and their families to live better lives. As a result South Africa will grow to be a much better society”.

In my younger years I was trained in the power of the “Repeat, repeat, repeat” concept. If you listen very carefully, you will start realising how certain slogans regularly echo throughout South Africa and form part of an organisation’s driving force mechanisms for certain actions.

In my previous comments and I quote: “It is not only government that is at fault, it is also the structured church, we as believers, non-profit organisations, good Samaritans, businesses, the corporate community, civilians and the unemployed who are guilty of participating in the culture of creating a dependency on subsidies. We are also to blame for cultivating poverty that leads to new generations born into greater poverty.

Poverty is the result of relationships that do not work.”

An appeal made to businesses and employers to create work opportunities is mostly falling on deaf ears.

The more we get organisations mobilising and shouting for irresponsible increases, the more jobs need to be cut, leading to more people being added to the estimated 42% of unemployed South Africans.

If you are fortunate enough to be employed with a reasonable remuneration, but by demanding to be paid according to your bills and for your undisciplined lifestyle for living on credit, you are actually part of the poverty problem and not the solution. That is why some of the poorest of the poor are scratching rubbish dumps all over our country where they try to make a living.

Time is overdue that we turn back to God and learn what God has taught us on how poverty and remuneration for work done should be addressed.

Teach children healthy habits MOETI MOLELEKOA, Thabong: GROWING up in the Thabong township, we used to travel to places such as Polokong Mine Married quarters (skomplass) to access facilities such as swimming pools, tennis courts and athletics’ tracks which were very rare locally. Whether we travelled in alone or in group of fives we were safe. Child abuse, molesting, kidnappings and trafficking were unheard of.

Today it is risky for children to play in the streets or in a nearby veld.

Children have been forced to play games that keep them indoors. Games on gaming consoles, chess and a host of other board games that keep them indoors under the supervision of their parents.

Walking over 5 km a day to the nearest mine villages kept us fit.

Today’s children are suffering from diseases such as diabetics, cancer, heart diseases and stress due to lack of exercise. Even the foods that our children eat are not nutritious. Instead of eating vegetables like spinach, cucumber and cabbage they prefer to eat fatty foods like red meat products.

These fats, coupled with the fact that their bodies do not get assisted by exercising to digest the food properly, complications caused by opportunistic diseases take an advantage of lack of immune system in our bodies.

The latest research has shown that diabetics equals Aids as one of the leading causes of death in our country today. The above scenario is the main cause of congestion at our clinics and hospitals. People complain of long queues that are being caused as a result of lifestyle diseases that can be avoided.

Gangs work together A YOUTH REHABILITATION PROGRAMME was initiated in Hennenman after two gangs had established a demarcation within Phomolong baying for each other’s blood. To rehabilitate them a jamboree was held in the township. The event was aimed at establishing peace between the groups.

According to the police, the criminal groups had reached a consensus that they would stop the fights and would work together to bring peace to Phomolong.

They even agreed to surrender their weapons during a Youth Day event in the presence of Sebenzile Ngangelizwe, the mayor of the Matjhabeng Local Municipality.

Some of the gangsters without birth certificates were assisted but due to technical problems those without identity documents could not be helped.

Officials of Home Affairs said the equipment they used to make new smart card IDs could not be brought to the hall. It was arranged that Sgt Ngaka and Const. Molotsoane would take five of the youngsters to Home Affairs in Welkom twice per month until they had their IDs. The jamboree was held in a packed community hall in the presence of representatives of the Hennenman SAPS, Community Policing Forum, Department of Correctional Services, Department of Home Affairs, South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), the National Prosecuting Authority and (NGOs).

Capitec client conned A THABONG man became a victim of fraud when he was about to go on leave last week.

J.M Ntsane told Vista he was phoned by a woman who identified herself as Ayanda.

She said she works for Capitec Bank and that they wanted to process his debit order for an insurance company. The insurers denied that they wanted to process a debit order. Ntsane then went to town and tried to withdraw money but the ATM said he had insufficient funds. When Ntsane went into Capitec Bank he discovered that R3 000 was withdrawn from his account. His phone showed “no network” since earlier the day after the woman named Ayanda had first call him.

Capitec Bank has opened a case of fraud and said they suspect that people in the bank are involved. Ntsane also went to Vodacom where he learnt that an unauthorised sim swop was done. It is now believed that bank personnel and employees from the cellphone companies are working together to defraud people. The bank said he would be reimbursed but the process would take 30 days.

Director of CUT receives awards DR SOLOMON OUPA MAKOLA, the director of the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, in Welkom, who is also a psychologist in private practice, received two awards at the 20th congress of the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA) held in Durban recently.

The first award was for practice. This prize is awarded to a practitioner who has made a significant impact in his or her practice and community through the facilitation of healthy people and communities.

Makola was commended for his significant impact on practice and community engagement. His psycho-educational work conducted, over the radio and social media, for the purpose of making psychological knowledge accessible to wider South African audiences, was particularly notable.

The second award was presented by the Counselling Division of PsySSA for being an outstanding psychologist. This award is presented to a counselling psychologist who has set himself or herself apart from his or her peers.

Besides receiving the awards Makola chaired a conference slot on community

DR SOLOMON OUPA MAKOLA psychology and he also presented a research paper titled Sense of Meaning and Study Persistence and Perseverance in an Institution of Higher Learning in South Africa.

Ná skool is Griessel weermag toe en het sy militêre opleiding in Oudtshoorn ontvang voordat hy vier maande na die Caprivi-strook gestuur is.

Nadat Griessel sy diensplig voltooi het, het hy onderwys aan die Bloemfonteinse Onderwyskollege (BOK) gestudeer voordat hy in Vrede aan die Primêre Skool Fred Wentzel begin skoolhou het.

In 1978 is hy en Esther van Zyl getroud. Hulle het hulle in Welkom gevestig waar hy aan die Primêre Skool Dagbreek begin skoolhou het. In 1997 is hy tot skoolhoof bevorder.

Ná 34 jaar het die Griessels behoorlik in Welkom wortel geskiet. Hulle het vier kinders hier grootgemaak en dien vandag steeds met toewyding en ywer die skool.

Om 20 Comrades-ultramarathons te kon voltooi, saam met sy gesin te kon kampeer en kuier en as deel van ’n geldinsamelingsprojek op die skool se dak te kon slaap is van die vele hoogtepunte van sy loopbaan.

Kasi inspired opera

THE singing sensation the Bravura Ensemble will be hosting its first concert this Saturday at the Oppenheimer Theatre, starting at 18:00.

The Bravura Ensemble is a male quartet which sings classical music and opera music with a township heritage and influence.

According to the group’s manager, Thabo Taje, the group offers renditions from the masters such as The Three Tenors which will blow your mind, coupled with the scintillating vibrations of melodies in their divine voices.

“We promise a night filled with music that the audience can participate in and other new tracks that will definitely have you at the edge of your seat.”

Taje says the purpose of the evening is to introduce the group to Welkom in order to create a support system for the debut album which they intend to release soon.

The group is a non-profitable organisation and has made remarkable strides in the field of pop classic and opera music.

The group is also involved in many community and social events, raising funds for schools and charity organisations, performing at the provincial government activities, weddings and also performing at funerals as per-requested.

THE Bravura Ensemble members are from the left Dalibhunga Taliwe, Tshidiso Morabe, Bongani Mokoena and Moshe Olifant.

The group participated in the Champions Easter Competition organised by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture in 2012, as well as in this year’s Welkom’s

Got Talent competition.

The show will start at 18:00.

Making a splash BRILLIANT VOICE ENSEMBLE is a pop­opera group formed by three young men in January 2013. Lyric tenor Thobei Molahlehi, dramatic tenor Tebello Segoete and baritone bass Mzukisi Dukisa form part of the group. They first tested the waters of the enter­ tainment industry when they took part in the Welkom’s Got Talent Competition. They came third in the competition. After Welkom’s Got Talent they participated in the X­Factor South Africa competi­ tion. They were chosen to represent the Free State in the national competition and are now one of the top 100 finalists in the country.

Perform well in music exams LEARNERS entered for the Trinity Exams by the St Dominic’s College School of the Arts achieved excel­ lent results. A total of 14 candidates were entered for violin, piano, classical guitar, recorder and vocal exams ranging from Initial to gr. 6 of which three passed with distinction (above 85%) and four passed with merit (above 75%). Welkom choir through to finals A TOTAL of 16 choirs from the Free State and Lesotho took part in the prestigious annual Old Mutual Na­ tional Choir Festival’s regional championships in Bloemfontein.

The Marvellous Chorus from Wel­ kom took the top spot, earning a place in the Standard Category finals, which will take place in Dur­ ban in December. The new league format works on a strict point sy­ stem, which means only the ten top­scoring choirs from all the re­ gions will qualify for the finals.

Thabong Serenade took first posi­ tion in the Large Category. This choir is now waiting for the other provincial finals to see whether it qualifies for the category finals.

THE Hoopstad Social Reintegration Office (SRI) of the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) held a special monitoring action in the Boitumelong township in Bloemhof. Dirkie Kotze, Shadrack Khunou and members of Kroonstad Community Corrections were part of this project. The aim of this exercise was to ensure that probationers and parolees adhe­ re to their parole conditions. Thabong girl honoured

THE Spelling Bee champion of the Free State, Lerato Sesdinyana, was recently honoured in Bloemfontein. CHILDREN from the Thokoza Day­care Centre in Thabong were involved in the Child Protec­ tion Week programmes and events which was held at the Lejweleputswa Arts and Culture Centre. The programmes were organised by Ziyaduma Promotions in partnership with the Arts Development Initiative. With the children are from the left, back: Makahlolo Maku­ roane (parent), Amelia Motseane (Social Development officer), Thembile Nqcobo (matron), and Regina Remaketsi (teacher).

THE staff of Thabong Library 1 and Hlolohelo Primary School have a programme in place through which they help learners after school to achieve different educational goals.

Lerato Sesdinyana, a learner of the Hlolohelo Primary School, is one of the learners who get assistance to develop their spelling bee skills.

Lerato was also recently honoured at a special function in Bloemfontein where she was honoured as the Spelling Bee Champion of the Free State.

Ntsoaki Moroka and Piny Taje accompanied Lerato to the prize-giving ceremony in Bloemfontein.

Vyf van die Laerskool Odensia se skaakspelers is in die Lejweleputswa­skaakspan ingesluit wat aan die Suid­Afri­ kaanse kampioenskapsbyeenkoms in Kimberley gaan deelneem. ALIZMA PRINSLOO (left) was chosen as junior member and Karabo Khakhau as floating member of the Matjhabeng Ju­ nior Council for 2014­’ 15. Both are learners at Welkom­Gim­ nasium.

THE gr. 11 Life Orientation learners of the Wessel Maree High School in Odendaalsrus did not wait for change to happen, but brought about the change they wanted to see in their community.

They took the streets of Odendaalsrus by storm by cleaning up around the local library, city hall and municipal offices. They took it a step further by employing Abel Moghothu as their personal “landscape planner” to tend to the gardens around the local clinic.

In the words of one of the learners, Melody Sithole: “Each person should use their power of one to make a difference. It doesn’t mat­ ter if you are only one, what matters is that you are making a diffe­ rence.” Skeries Scheurkogel hopes that the learners learned that life is not just about receiving, but that people should also give back and make their community a loving and caring place to live in. AGT leerlinge aan die Laerskool St. Helena het aan Senekal se redenaarsfees deelgeneem en goed gevaar. Hier is Carné Zietsman (links, wat die beste aanbieding in gr. 6 gelewer het) en Lara van der Merwe (wat die beste aanbieding in gr. 7 gelewer het). Ses leerlinge het goue diplomas verwerf en twee silwerdiplomas.

VIR Nico Pretorius, hoof van die Hoërskool Hennenman, is dit belangrik om te weet wat kinders dink en voel en daarom geniet hy dit om ook sport af te rig en buite die klaskamer tussen die kinders te wees. Van links is van verlede jaar se matriekleerlinge Pieter du Plooy, Handré Kritzinger, Marco Pretori­ us, Charles Strydom, Rickus Stander en Herman Louw met hul skoolhoof. Marco is Nico se seun.

Pretorius glo in betrokkenheid NICO PRETORIUS is in Natal gebore, maar sy wortels lê in die Vrystaat waar hy eintlik grootgeword het. Hy het skoolgegaan in Frankfort, Koppies en Hennenman en matriek aan die Hoërskool Wessel Maree in Odendaalsrus voltooi.

Soos alle seuns van daardie jare het hy hom ná skool vir militêre diensplig aangemeld.

Pretorius het ’n BSc-graad, asook ’n HOD, aan die Universiteit van die Vrystaat verwerf.

Hy het in 1991 by die Hoërskool Hendrik Potgieter in Reddersburg begin skoolhou. In 1996 het hy departementshoof aan die Hoërskool Ladybrand geword en in 2001 is hy tot adjunkhoof by die Hoërskool Staatspresident Swart in Brandfort bevorder.

In 2008 is Pretorius as hoof by die Hoërskool Hennenman aangestel. Hy beskou hom nie as ’n “kantoorhoof” nie. Sport en ander buitemuurse aktiwiteite is ook belangrik om kinders te ontwikkel en hy is by tennis-,

‘Een van my lewensfilosofieë is dat positiwiteit die sleutel tot sukses is. Jou ingesteldheid teenoor ’n situasie bepaal dikwels die uitkoms daarvan.’

– Nico Pretorius rugby- en atletiekafrigting betrokke. Hy meen deur sportafrigting bly hy in voeling met die kinders. Hy rig ook die GriffonsGrant Khomo-o.16-rugbyspan af.

Hy spesialiseer in lewenswetenskap en wiskunde tot op gr. 12-vlak, maar kan ook fisiologie, lewensoriëntering, natuurwetenskap en liggaamlike opvoeding aanbied.

Pretorius is getroud met Marna, wat fisiese wetenskap by die Hoërskool Hennenman aanbied. Die Pretoriusse het twee kinders. Marco is ’n eerstejaarstudent aan die NWU en Nicolé is ’n gr. 10-leerling aan die Hoërskool Hennenman.

In sy vrye tyd kyk hy sport en lees biografieë van bekende sportlui. Rugby is sy gunstelingsport, maar vir hom is enige sport wat iemand beoefen en dit goed doen ’n plesier om na te kyk. Hy bring soveel tyd moontlik saam met sy gesin deur.

“Een van my lewensfilosofieë is dat positiwiteit die sleutel tot sukses is. Jou ingesteldheid teenoor ’n situasie bepaal dikwels die uitkoms daarvan,” sê Pretorius.

“Ek glo vas God het ’n plan met elkeen van ons se lewe en dat ons nie toevallig op ’n spesifieke tyd op ’n spesifieke plek deur Hom geplaas is nie.

Ons moet net naby genoeg aan Hom leef om Sy stem te hoor.”

Mining Department – Mototolo, Limpopo Ref. No. HRM0192 The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and evaluating HSEC hazards associated with mine surface and underground working environment and events which impact on the Mine’s ventilations system and occupational hygiene programmes. The incumbent will also conduct routine ventilation and occupational hygiene measurements and inspections to verify correctness and compliance with statutory and ventilation management system specifications.

He/she will be expected to schedule the occupational hygiene monitoring programme and prepare and allocate monitoring equipment for on-site sampling purposes. Troubleshooting will also be expected, such as evaluating the efficiency of the mine ventilation system, determining and locating any nonconformances, deficiencies, root cause analysis and efficiently correcting those occupational-related issues applying hygiene techniques.

Candidates must have a Grade 12 Senior Certificate (with Mathematics and Physical Science), together with a Practical and Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control or equivalent qualification and registration as an Occupational Hygienist with DOL and SAIOH. Experience in underground metalliferous mining is essential, while underground trackless mining experience will be advantageous. Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is important, together with the ability to conduct plant inspections, compile accurate reports on ventilation and occupational hygiene and present such, and to perform routine operational mathematical calculations (quantity, pressure, prediction). Applicants must be enthusiastic, passionate about compliance with HSEC requirements, medically fit, and able to plan, organise, monitor, control, problem solve and report on work progress to optimise output within the operational function. Further requirements include a valid driver’s licence and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels in the workplace.

Golf day a great success THE annual Flamingo Rotary/Goldfields Hospice Golf Day was held at Oppenheimer Park Golf Club.

Once again this proved to be a very successful day which was well supported by local businesses and players.

Funds were raised for the Goldfields Hospice to be able to continue their free service in the Goldfields area.

“We strive to improve quality in life, dignity in death and support in bereavement to all those suffering from a terminal illness.

“It is only through the generosity and unselfishness of people in our community that we are able to continue to provide a valuable service to the patients within our own communities,” says Marli Young, general manager of the hospice.

“There was a good turn-out and our thanks go to all the players and sponsors who supported the day, and especially to Old Mutual who is our main sponsor.”

BERGFIETSRYERS is slaggereed vir die laaste been van die gewilde Spur-skolebergfietsreeks wat dié naweek op Stonepark in Riebeeckstad gehou word.

Dié reeks word oor die land heen vir skole aangebied.

Dié reeks is vir skoolkinders, seuns en meisies, wat tussen 10 en 19 jaar oud is.

Die deelnemers sal in rondtes van 5 km ry afhangend van hul ouderdomme.

Die byeenkoms begin Saterdag om 10:00 vir laerskoolkinders. Die inskryfgeld is R40 en R50. Die afdeling vir hoërskoolkinders begin om 11:15 en die inskryfgeld is R60 en R70.

Van 13:00 af kan bergfietsryers in alle ouderdomsgroepe mekaar die stryd aansê.

Deelnemers in elke ouderdomsgroep sal rondtes ry. Die inskryfgeld hiervoor wissel tussen R60 en R70.

Stonepark is ’n bergfietsbaan wat spesifiek vir die soort byeenkoms gebou is. Daar is verskeie tegniese dele. Daar is egter ’n gedeelte vir beginners ook.

Verskeie afstande van tussen 5 km en 40 km kan op die baan afgelê word. Die baan is ook vir drawwers beskikbaar.

Fietsryers van klub oral in aksie Molly Green TALLE lede van die Welkom-fietsryklub het onlangs aan groot wedrenne deelgeneem.

Francois du Toit was eerste in sy ouderdomsgroep in die Kumba Iron Ore-padfietswedloop oor 100 km in Kathu. Dr. Piet du Toit was sesde, Pierre Beukes derde en Koos Duvenhage 11de in hul onderskeie ouderdomsgroepe. Van die vroue was Erna du Toit eerste in haar ouderdomsgroep. In die 50 km-padfietswedren was Tony Brown tweede, Annelene Brown eerste, Ronel Duvenhage tweede en Gerda du Toit eerste in hul onderskeie ouderdomsgroepe.

Louwna Slabbert en Eugene Naudé het die Karoo to Coast-bergfietswedren oor 100 km van Uniondale na Knysna voltooi, terwyl Jonathan Odendaal, Jared Tilley, Vicky Tilley, David Tilley, Cordel Buys, Riaan Nell, Juan de Meillon en Raymond Odendaal aan die 2 Rivers-bergfietsren in Bothaville deelgeneem het. Jonathan was algeheel tweede.

THE South African round of the FIM Superbike World Championship, which was provisionally scheduled to be held at Phakisa Freeway on 19 October, will now no longer form part of the 2014 series.

However, it could be included in the 2015 calendar and possibly take place as early as March.

GAS Sports, the official promoters of the South African leg of the FIM Superbike World Championship event, says in a media release that the South African event is still on the cards, however, it will be moved to 2015 and might possibly be held as early as

March next year.

According to Gas Sports, the Free State Tourism Authority had to formalise additional funding requirements to enable the hosting of this prestigious event and this caused Gas Sports to reschedule.

The Free State Tourism Authority is the official custodians of the Phakisa Raceway.

Sivile Mabandla, GAS Sports chairperson, says: “GAS Sports will continue to work with FSTA and other invested stakeholders in an effort to secure an early date with Dorna, the WSBK rights holders, in the 2015 Superbike World Championship.”

Halfeind kom Molly Green

DIE Griffons het hul plek in die halfeindstryd van die eerste liga van die Curriebekerreeks bespreek.

Dié wedstryd sal die eerste naweek van Oktober in Welkom beslis word.

Oersond Gorgonzola, afrigter van die Noord-Vrystaters, doen ’n beroep op rugby-ondersteuners in die streek om die span op 4 Oktober in Welkom te kom ondersteun.

Die Griffons het die afgelope

naweek teen alle verwagtinge in hul wedstryd in Kemptonpark teen ’n begeesterde Valke-span met 27-36 verloor. Die rustydtelling was 13-10 in die guns van die Valke.

Gorgonzola sê die Valke het hul bes gedoen. Die Valke het ’n oorwinning nodig gehad om te kan kwalifiseer. Die Valke en die SWD-Arende beklee die derde en vierde plekke op die punteleer.

Die Griffons kom Saterdag teen die SWD-Arende in Welkom te staan. Die wedstryd skop om 15:00 in die Noordwes-stadion af.

DIE Noord­Vrystaatse kampioenskapsbyeen­ koms is pas in Welkom gehou. Stoeiers van Wel­ kom het hul staal getoon en met heelwat medaljes weggestap.
