On July 19, a team comprising five intrepid Romanian alpinists managed in a national premiere to climb Nanga Parbat peak in the Himalayas ( 8,126 m), using the Schell route. The first four members of the team planted the Romanian flag on Nanga Parbat without using oxygen masks, while the fifth member of the team - Bruno Adamcsek - has been forced to stop at 7,300 m, for medical reasons. Conquest of the ninth eight-thousand mountain of the world was made on a route that took more than a month after their departure from Bucharest to Pakistan. On July 28, just 12 hours after their return home, I met the team of Romanian alpinists in the foyer of the Mihail Jora concert hall of Radio Romania, during the first press conference of the five braves Romanians. The team, consisting of Zsolt Török, Teo Vlad, Marius Gane, Aurel Salasan and Bruno Adamcsek, accompanied by the project manager, Eugen Popescu and Paul Popescu, media relations manager, offered us exclusive details and photos of the expedition. According to the statement of the team leader, Zsolt Török, the result of the expedition organized in 2013 on Nanga Parbat is the “largest Romanian climbing performance considering the difficult ascent on Rupal slope, the number of team members who have reached the top (4 of 5 ) and the fact that they haven’t used sherpas or oxygen masks. It was a 100% Romanian expedition, both in terms of the team and the management.” Nanga Parbat , also known as “the Mountain of Destiny” or “the Mountain of Dath”, is located in the western Himalayan chain, in Pakistan. that climbed by the Romanian alpinists, is the most difficult climbing route to the Nanga Parbat peak, with the particularity that from the base camp to the peak is a difference of over 4,500 meters. Of the 200 climbers who have reached this peak over times, less than 20 chosed to go on this spectacular side of the mountain. Two other earlier Romanian expedition tried climbing this slope, but none of them managed to reach the top until the team led by Zsolt Török did it. With the primarily objective the climbing of an entirely Romanian team of alpinists on Nanga Parbat, the expedition which ended Saturday, July 20, 2013, is a performance of the utmost importance for Romania and is one first step to reintegrate it among the countries with a tradition in alpinism. This project brought together in a single team experienced alpinists with performances at high altitudes and created a link between different generations of Romanian climbers. The five climbers have received medals from Radio Romania, as a first recognition of their performance.

Snagov City Hall together with the Foundation for Democracy, Culture and Liberty, organize during September 6 to 8, White Days and Nights Festival in Snagov .The project aims to revive the Snagov area, which Theatre, National University of Theatre and Film and Hyperion University, started in July and will end on September 15 the second edition of the “Caragiale’s Bucharest”. Every day, in the Historic Center, the Lumea Copiilor Park and at La Conu’ Iancu restaurant from Hala Traian, there will be comedy, classical and modern theater, cabaret, music-hall and stand-up comedy, and music of all genres, from neighborhood fanfare and the music of Maria Tanase to operetta and classical music. One of the places where the festival will be followed is on the stage from the Historic Center (Franceza St. – Postei St. intersection, behind the National History Museum of Romania). The sixteenth edition of the Young Actor Gala -HOP , scheduled for September 4 to 8, is a permanent UNITER program and singular in the landscape of local festivals, that aims to promote and launch artistic higher education graduates. This year the HOP Gala changes its outfit! To a spectacular wear, going casually into a new stage, with the help of director Radu Afrim. In such an outfit the location changes also. The event is back where it has been founded, in Costinesti, Vox Maris Grand Resort. For a special atmosphere, there are surprise guests. Famous actors, rock, disco, pop stars, or cartoon characters - Johnny Depp, Woody Harrelson, Rene Zellweger, Jim Carrey, Liza Minnelli, Amy Winehouse, Margareta Paslaru, Charlie Chaplin, Tom Hanks, Alan Cumming and many others. The 47 contestants will break the barriers of the theater and will get inside their idols. That’s only for 3 minutes! Three minutes of fame.
80 years ago was conceived as a recreational space for Bucharest and Prahova inhabitants. This year marks 80 years since Dem Dobrescu, Mayor of Bucharest in 1933, announced the entry of Snagov into the tourist circuit of Bucharest. The event enjoys the support of the business community in the area, where perhaps not coincidentally, most companies in Snagov have their activity just in entertainment. Organizers propose that the event should become a traditional one, this year being only the first edition of a long series of annual editions. The event will last three days and two nights and will be held in various locations in Snagov. Friday, September 6, the first day of the festival is devoted to grandparents and grandchildren, but also to motorcyclists! Saturday and Sunday, September 7 and 8, are dedicated to the public. Sports events will be held both on Lake Snagov - Old Boys and Girls Regatta, of the former glories of the Romanian rowing - and contests between ad hoc crews. The Snagov stadium will hold “old boys” match - members of the national football team of Romania against townships, and games of youth teams. There will be fishing contests, and also a cooking contest joined by mayors from different localities. Also cyclists will be invited to participate, for them being organized trails and competitions, and also camping areas. Outdoor activities - golf, horseback riding for children, other sports events, will be held in various locations of the partners, as well as a traditional fair and a book fair. On this occasion will be launched the conferences “Barefoot in the grass” - a series of meetings with people from diverse backgrounds who will talk about areas of great interest, every morning between 07:00 and 8:30. Lectors for these conferences will be personalities,
but also successful anonymous with atypical occupations. Evenings are devoted to hard rock concerts - Friday and a concert with artists of all genres - Saturday. Of course, there will not be missing the traditional fireworks and laser games .The festival will end with a parade of boats on Lake Snagov where local residents will participate with their craft. Considering Romania an important destination, Qatar Airways increases its frequency of flights by entering its fifth weekly flight from Bucharest to Doha and return. Since September 17, the flight on Tuesday will be added to the Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday flights (Doha - Bucharest 08:35 - 13:30, Bucharest - Doha 18:25 - 22:55). Bucharest - Doha is operated with an Airbus A320 aircraft with a two-class configuration, including up to 12 seats in Business Class and up to 132 seats in Economy. The aircraft offers “next generation interactive onboard entertainment system” with seatback TV screens and over 1,000 audio and video options. The second good news is that since September 1, Qatar Airways passengers are entitled to heavier luggage! Economy class allowed weight increase from 23 kg to 30 kg
and in Business and First Class permissible weight increases from 30 to 40 kg, respective from 40 kg to 50 kg. Number of luggage allowed in each class remains unchanged! Exceptions to the increase in weight are destinations where there are strict regulations regarding the weight of each bag. Qatar Airways stated that travelers flying before the introduction of the new regulations, but returning after September 1, enjoy for their return flight of the increase of the allowed weight! At the initiative of Maria Grapini, Minister for SMEs, Business and Tourism, on August 19, has been organized at Phoenicia Hotel the first edition of the Awards Gala of the Romanian Tourism Ambassadors for personalities of Romanian culture and sport: Iolanda Balas Soter, Grigore Lese, Elisabeta Lipa, Ilie Nastase, Ivan Patzaichin, Stefan Popa Popa’s, Gabriela Szabo and Gheorghe Zamfir. These are only the first eight ambassadors from a larger group. The awards event for the title of Romanian Tourism Ambassador is part of the minister’s launched program “Romania promoted by values,” a concept that will incorporate many unique actions to promote the authentic Romanian. “Within the project Romania Promoted by Values we intend to award 30 titles of Ambassadors to personalities from Romania in areas such as art, sport, culture etc. Thus, the individuals will be involved in various campaigns to promote Romania, which will be promoted internally and internationally. The aim of this work is to materialize the proven strengths in tourism that Romania has,” Maria Grapini told us. The Awards Gala of the Romanian Tourism Ambassadors was honored by the presence of Titus Corlatean, Foreign Affairs Minister, Varujan Vosganian Economy’s Minister, Lucia Varga, Delegate Minister for Water, Forests and Fisheries, Doina Adriana Pana, Delegate Minister for Social Dialogue, Prime Minister of Romania counselors Dante Stein and Vasile Cepoi, Maricel Popa, Secretary of State at the Department of Energy, members of the Tourism Federations and Associations, and numerous journalists. Mamaia – Summer’s Capital of Entertainment The Romanian coast, now linked with Bucharest by a highway which shortens significantly the way to the Black Sea, is taking off from year to year. This year there were no hotel owners to complain about lack of tourists, we have witnessed far fewer complaints from tourists and foreigners started again to visit the Romanian resorts.

Tell us more about Premier Palace Group and the way you want to go through with this concept? How did the Premier Palace Hotel & Spa project started and where from such a business idea? The project began in 2008 as a five star Restaurant, motivated by the inexistence of such a product in the area and latter developed into our first hotel building. Due to our passion for beauty and health, Premier Spa was born. The result was a complex with 82 accommodation rooms, a main restaurant, three bar-lounges, a conference hall and Premier Spa, of course. The Premier Spa concept is a fusion between Wellness and Medical Spa, providing both beauty services and treatments or procedures that maintain, restore and improve health. Under the same roof, an area exceeding 3,000 square meters, are the swimming pool, hydropool floor, Thermarium, multiple saunas and showers, 21 cabinets and appliances, art therapy that deserves to be mentioned - Yiashi Dome, Vacu Styler, Slide Styler, multifunctional medical Vichy showers and tubs. The motto is trying to capture the essence of what we offer to our guests, not just that five-star accommodation and services of the highest quality, but a general well-being state. We wish that, when somebody enters the complex, to be able to really feel like in an oasis of tranquility, relaxation and pampering, forgetting the bustle of the office or everyday problems. The main element that would bring our guests back every time is how they feel here, because our entire philosophy is based on the balance between body and spirit. Premier Palace hosts different events. Tell us about one of the most beautiful moments! Events were many and certainly will be more. One in particular, which we remember with great pleasure, was the after-party of the Michael Bolton concert. We were glad to see how many people appreciate quality products and the very good music of the artist. It was a beautiful party that ended at sunrise. We want to emphasize that we’ve been honored to host
a star like him. But let’s not forget the group Ricchi e Poveri, or Gianni Morandi, who also, were guests of our hotel with the occasion of their concerts in Bucharest. How do you see the evolution of this complex and what expectations do you have? We look forward to the increasing of the business, we want to become a benchmark for the highest quality services although we do not consider that we are in direct competition with any other hotel in Bucharest. 15 % of Bucharesters use Netcity Bucharest Municipality disposed the air cables in the Mircea Voda neighborhood, on the night of August 30 to 31, so ending the first phase of the project Netcity. The completion of the first phase of the project involved the construction of 880 km of sewer built on 1,382 streets, a total of 11,230 buildings connected to the network and over 330,000 people receiving services through Netcity network. The public works concession contract “fiber optic metropolitan networks for telecommunications Bucharest - Netcity” was signed on
June 2, 2008. Works concession to the network, in a public-private partnership meant an investment of the investor of approximately Euro 40 million. The Cotroceni Palace
It is a part of the Cotroceni National Museum. The Cotroceni Palace, church and monastery reflect a three-century old history that interweaves political, military, diplomatic, religious and cultural aspects, with the general evolution of Romanian society. The palace was built in the 17th century by the Prince Serban Cantacuzino. The Cotroceni National Museum exhibits a rich range of objects of art, illustrative of the Romanian decorative art. The Cantacuzino space is most suitable for organizing presentations of old art objects that can only outline the exceptional artistic accomplishments of a distant epoch.
It is the second largest administrative building in the world (after the Pentagon) in terms of all-out surface: 330,000 m2. It was built between 1984 and 1989 by a team of architects led by Anca Petrescu. and was destined for the members of the Communist Party; Besides offices, Ceausescu planned to make personal living places, so the Palace’s surface would have been bigger. The museum is a component of the European family of Museums of Popular Art and Traditions. A national museum, under the Ministry of Culture’s patronage, it has an especially rich collection of objects, hosted in a Neo-Romanian style historical monumentbuilding close to Victoria Square. The museum developed a highly original museography honored in 1996 by receiving the EMYA – the European Museum of the Year Award. The originality of the exhibiting style is continued in the Museum’s publications, in actions such as the Missionary Museum, the Village School, concerts, conferences and exhibition openings. The muscular, skeletal, circulatory, nervous and respiratory systems can be positively affected by massage. The theory behind massage is the relief of muscle tension, and that relaxation of the body will allow for a faster healing process. Massage can increase and improve circulation to damaged tissue areas. People who play sports know that it is important to stretch and relax muscles for peak performance, and the same idea underlies the massage process. Perhaps the greatest benefit of massage, as any amateur can confirm, is the relaxing effect it can have on tense muscles. The smooth stroking motions and the kneading of muscles relieves tension, loosens joints and improves circulation, all of which are beneficial for good health. Of course it is recommended that people not replace necessary medical treatment with a massage. Sometimes medical conditions that could easily be cured by a simple medical treatment are identified as a simple tight muscle or something similar.

Nestled on the shore of the Herastrau Lake, the museum displays 85 peasant homes, barns, churches and mills relocated there from all over Romania. Tall-roofed Transylvanian houses with beautifully crafted shingles sit alongside rustic wooden churches to form a unique neighborhood. The overall impression is that Romanian peasants take great pride in their work and homes. Everyday accessories: tools, butter-churns, hay forks, beer kegs and clothes are displayed inside the house. This museum can take a whole day to explore and, in fine weather, families settle down for picnics in the scenic grounds. The museum is hosted by the former Royal Palace and is the most representative art gallery in Romania. The Royal Palace was the official residence of the Romanian kings. Its current facade was given the finishing touches in 1937 when Carol II was King of Romania. The National Art Museum Palace is located in downtown Bucharest (in the so-called Revolution Square). The Palace displays an extensive collection of European and Romanian fine art. The European Art Gallery offers an overview of teh most important artistic movements that marked art history from the early Rennaissance till the first decades of teh 20th century. The Romanian Modern Art Gallery illustrates the development of Romanian fine arts from the first decades of the 19th century till the second half of the 20th century. During the early Middle Ages, Bucharest became a commercial center; important enough to enable the XIV century princes to build the Princely Court – nowadays known as “The Old Court” - which formed the development core of the medieval town. The first written mention of the name of “Bucharest” dates back to September 20, 1459: it appears on a document issued from the chancellery of the famous Prince Vlad Tepes (the Impaler). By the year 1599, a new Princely Court was built. Matei Basarab (1632-1654) renovated the Old Court. By 1640, because the prince’s relations with the Turks worsened, Matei Basarab moved his Capital back to the town of Targoviste. Bucharest still remained a princely residence. In May 1654, Prince Constantin Serban Basarab (1654-1658), Matei Basarab’s successor, left for Targoviste after a rebellion of his mercenary troops, and he ordered the Old Court to be set of fire. The Old Royal Court is an outdoor site that can be visited any time. The Romanian Athenaeum
Is a concert hall in the center of Bucharest and a landmark of the Romanian capital city. Opened in 1888, the ornate, domed, circular building is the city’s main concert hall and home of the “George Enescu” Philarmonic and of the George Enescu annual international music festival. It has the aspect of a Greek temple with Ionic columns at the entrance. The wonderful interior with round frescoes depicts important events in Romania’s history. Extensive reconstruction and restoration work has been conducted in 1992 by a Romanian construction company and restoration painter Silviu Petrescu, saving the building from collapse. Visiting hours: every day, unless concerts or rehearsals are held.

PIATA OBOR 5D : A huge covered market located behind the Bucur Obor Department Store at the intersection of Calea Mosilor and Calea Stefan cel Mare. Although the selection of goods is big, the market is crowded and appears dirty. Watch your pockets and bags. If you’re looking for a truly Romanian market experience, this is your spot. Pets, including aquarium supplies, are available, as are fishing needs (including live worms, poles, lures). Wooden and woolen goods, ceramics, clothing, as well as plants cut and growing, are available. A large pedigree dog and cat market at least once a month on the street nearest Mosilor is a fun experience. PIATA 1 MAI 5D : Located near La Fourmi on Ion Mihalache Blvd. It is a small market but has a good selection of fruit, vegetables and flowers. As with all the above markets, clothing, shoes, and household items for cleaning and cooking may also be found. Honey and other bee byproducts are a national pride of Romania and are found at all of these outdoor markets. PIATA DOROBANTILOR 5D : Located indoors on Calea Dorobantilor north of Calea Stefan cel Mare. It offers produce and flowers. The quality is better than Amzei, but the prices are olso higher. Out of season exotic fruits and vegetables can be found here. There are several other stores in this area. The meat market inside is particularly good.

Dear Reader, After a long hot summer, fall and more comfortable weather are in sight. As the fall “season” begins, Bucharest will have a whole range of cultural offerings for you. The most important of course is the Enescu Music Festival, which we enthusiastically wait every two years, in the fall. Besides the regular theater and opera seasons, this fall Bucharest will play host to a number of International Stars who have made Bucharest a regular stop on their “world tours”. Despite the economic malaise, which continues with no end in sight, we seem to have thousands and tens of thousands of people who are able and willing to spend from 100 to 1,000 Lei for a ticket to see and hear their favorite entertainers. But do not limit yourself to city events. Fall is the perfect season for an excursion to scenic Prahova Valley. Not only can you take nature walks along uncrowded mountain paths, but you can arrange a visit and lunch at a vineyard, where you can taste the young wines, and pick-up some bargains to take home.
I now want to turn to another side of Bucharest life, which may be unknown to you if you do not speak the language. It is probably because world and domestic economic news are so dismal, but our media, whether it be newspapers TV or ‘on-line’ seem to be preoccupied with scandals surrounding the personal lives of prominent people. Whether it’s a wedding, a birth, or a divorce, plastic surgery, or legal problems, or some natural calamity, this is what they feature, and this is what the viewers/readers seem to want. Yet, in my view, Romania is still in severe economic difficulties, exacerbated by the woes of the European Union, which we worked so hard to join. I have seen only a few serious solutions advanced, as our politicians continue to muddle through crisis after crisis, looking for a ‘bail-out’ or a ‘hand-out’ to help us survive. Us, I mean the small and medium enterprises – SMEs – which everywhere in the real world are the real engine of the economy. It seems that our future still depends on the economic recovery and growth of the “big three” Germany, France and the UK, and we count on the “trickle down” economic theory, which has not really worked in the past. I do not want to end this on a depressing note. So keep in mind Christmas is just around the corner, with parties, gifts and ski weekends, and of course the New Year is sure to bring good news. So be full of optimism and enjoy your visit!
