MARGARET BOYLE ACCESSORIES Owner Margaret Boyle retired from TWA after 23 years of flying the world. She had been sewing her whole life and was eager to begin the next phase of her business life, as the family moved to the Dominican Republic. Boyle tested the commercial sewing waters in the DR and had the perfect opportunity to stretch as a designer and seamstress when the Boyle family moved to Lima, Peru. “When I moved to Peru, I found fabric like I had never found before in my life,” Boyle said. She shopped in districts well known as “sketchy” but full of exceptional fabric. “I knew it was the perfect time to open a shop, and I learned more in those three years than I could have imagined.” Today Boyle is in business in Leesburg, VA bringing her passion and self professed perfectionism to her clients. Boyle tries to return to Peru on a yearly basis to indulge her love of the Peuvian fabric. Boyle’s designs are original and described as ageless and always thoughtful of functionality. While the accessories are available in multiples, the purses are all stylishly unique, “I never duplicate a bag unless our customer specifically requests it.” Margaret Boyle markets her creations on her website (www.margaretboyle.com), at various sales trade shows and most of all, through recommendations of satisfied customers. She sells directly to local upscale shops and is proud to list The Textile Museum in Washington DC as one of her customers. They also sell and ship to customers all over the United States, Canada, Europe and South America.

“THE MAJORITY OF OUR SALES ARE CUSTOM REQUESTS FROM RETURNING CUSTOMERS. WE NEVER CHARGE EXTRA FOR CUSTOM, IT IS OUR SINCERE PLEASURE TO CREATE A BAG THAT IS SPECIAL FOR EVERY CLIENT. I HAVE HAD SO MANY CUSTOMERS ORDER A BAG TO GIVE AS A GIFT AND THEY END UP NOT BEING ABLE TO PART WITH IT. I TRULY UNDERSTAND THAT. I MAKE THE BEST BAG POSSIBLE, EVERY ORDER. I USE THE HIGHEST QUALITY FABRIC, LININGS AND THE BEST HARDWARE I CAN FIND.” Prices are defined as affordable, ranging from $20.00 for a wristlet to $75.00 for a purse trimmed in Italian leather. In addition to donations to worthy causes, Boyle donates 10% of her retail sales to The Resourceful Woman, a local Thrift Shop that supports abused women and children. “Beautiful fabric is one of the great pleasures in life, I am so fortunate to be able to work at what I love, this could never, ever ever be boring!”

fashion design. After high school Michael attended various real estate schools quickly advancing in this field and by the young age of 24 he opened his own company. During this time of growth he started a rock band with former school mates and passionately excelled as the front man. In 2008 Michael’s dreams of musical bliss were shattered as his band fell apart. Down on his luck and not receiving the fulfillment he desired through real estate he decided to go back to school for fashion design. In the fall of 2008 Michael enrolled at the International Academy of Design and Technology and quickly excelled in his studies. Intrigued by the construction, quality and design of high fashion houses such as Lanvin, Oscar de la Renta and Burberry, Michael vowed to create women’s clothing that could stand alongside these famous names. As a current student Michael plans to move to New York City upon completion of his Bachelor of Fine Arts in the summer of 2011.

He’s a dreamer that maintains relentless dedication and a strict work ethic to achieve the goals he’s set forth. Although Michael Wayne has only touched the surface of his potential in the fashion arena, he is already proving his taste and vision to be worthy. He is without a doubt a name you will hear of in the future.

Michael Wayne

The Michael Wayne Collection is a manifestation of the spirit and imagination of its designer Michael Wayne. The sophisticated sensibility combined with the modern edge of his clothes shows a unique style that women are sure to fall in love with. Showing his first collection of women’s clothing in the fall of 2010, he received great response with many opportunities to follow. Michael Wayne was born in Tampa, Florida on June 17th, 1981. Predominantly raised by his mother he gained great admiration and respect for women. Throughout his childhood Michael expressed his creative soul through art and music.

As a high school student Michael took a keen interest in architecture and design; however it wouldn’t be until years later that he found a sincere passion for

ETRO - 720 MADISON AVE., NEW YORK, NY Etro makes clothes for those who want to stand out in a crowd. Founder Giacomo Etro spent years in the textile business perfecting intricate prints, but the retail flame burned bright, and Etro launched his clothing line. Bright, bold, and visually daring, the Italian company’s clothes are luxurious, well-tailored and meant for those who relish mixing colors and patterns. Step into the boutique and you’ll know whether you have the panache to wear the brand; take a look at the sales associates’ outfits for a clue. A typical ensemble: red corduroy trousers, a rainbow-striped shirt, and a paisley tie. The women’s line mixes conservative cuts with dazzling prints. A similarly eclectic vibe animates Etro’s accessories. With fragrance and accessories on the first floor, men’s wear on the second, women’s on the third and fifth, and custom tailoring on the fourth, it’s easy to get lost in the vast, librarylike establishment. But the trail of brightly colored clothes and accessories should help lead the way to the cash register. — Jeannette Park.

FLIRT - 754 FIFTH AVE., NEW YORK, NY This sophisticated midtown mainstay—relocated to the elegant Vanderbilt mansion in 1928—is the ne plus ultra ladies-who-lunch shopping destination, complete with its own restaurant and an accomodating café. The stately building features eight floors of pure designer bliss, including spacious in-store boutiques from couture stars like Narciso Rodriquez, Chloe, and Jean Paul Gaultier on floors two through four—all furnished with swank, wellappointed dressing rooms complete with Central Park views. On five, younger fashion sybarites gravitate toward excellent selections of mid-priced lines like Marc by Marc Jacobs, DKNY, and Theory, and rack after rack of shoes. On the main floor, celebrity divas in dark glasses—and soon-to-be well-coiffed Upper East Side ladies en route to John Barrett’s ninth floor salon—browse the extensive accessories department, with buttery leather bag upon bag from designers like Nancy Gonzalez, Chanel, and Prada. — Carolyn Murnick.

SLANG BETTY - 172 FIFTH AVE., BROOKLYN, NY Slang Betty’s collection of sexy, confidently feminine apparel more than lives up to the promise of its purple-onpurple, girl-power décor. Owner and Park Slope local Donna Marie Rose opened her shop in 1996 as a neighborhood solution to those last-minute going-out fashion emergencies, selling what she describes as “fashion for the financially impaired.” This translates into moderately priced, good-quality non-label goods, fashion-forward but eminently wearable looks that borrow directly from the runways of New York, Milan and Paris. Not for the girly-averse, the clothes are also big on fun femme frills: Any combination of lace, rhinestones, ribbon, beads and sequins embellish the variety of clingy tanks, and hemlines on many of the cocktail dresses and skirts leave lots of room to show off those gams. Slang Betty also stocks more daytime-appropriate—though plenty pretty— apparel, like bright Ts and tanks (many from the Boy Beater line), leggings, stockings and lingerie. Accessories abound, with Tokyo Bay watches, cloth cloche hats, tiny purses, and jewelry, ranging from the chunkily beaded to simple sterling varieties. — Andrew Sessa.

She has performed with Cheryl Crow and the Go Gos. Her songs carry a message of dreaming big, one that this sweet teen has taken to heart. Held in the elegant Spa at the Viceroy Miami, the insider only event presented by Suave Professionals and prepared by Fashion Box Studio Inc. and Leonardo Rocco, CEO and founder of Rocco Donna and international renowned leader in the hair design industry was a complete success. Prior to the event, Leonardo Rocco, co-creator of the Miami Hair Beauty & Fashion stated “This beauty platform will become the place where beauty industry leaders come to launch and showcase their products to the US Hispanic market and Latin America.” “There is not quite another platform like this that pulls together the most sought after Hispanic celebrities, industry insiders, and global brands invested in this category and market in South Florida. We are proud to be the first to launch this one-of-a-kind event.” From beginning to end, guests felt as if they were part of a celebrity gala with backstage access. Starting with the pink carpet supporting Susan G. Komen for the Cure which replaces the traditionally red carpet in the spirit of Breast Cancer awareness, to the pristine, elegant spa setting designed by Philippe Stark and behind the scenes access, Rocco Donna and the participating brands have pulled out all the stops. Participating brands included: presenting sponsor Suave Professionals®, Babyliss PRO, Marcia Teixeira BKT, SO.CAP Hair Extensions, BECCA, Decléor Paris, and Taca Airlines. Furthermore, guests will be served Latino-inspired hors d’oeuvres during the cocktail courtesy of Morena Restaurant and they will be enchanted by elegant house music by Claudio Holze. A unique part of the show, included models being styled in glass suites so that guests and media could witness the models transform from natural to glamorous. The glass suites were divided by category that included the “Suave Professionals® Hair Lounge,” where the celebrities and models had their locks primped to achieve sensational red carpet and runway looks. Elias Maida, co-creator of Miami Hair Beauty & Fashion 2010 by Rocco Donna and Fashion Box Studio President, believes that Miami showcases some of the latest trends and attitudes in the world of beauty and fashion. “Miami‘s unique position as a multicultural city, coupled with the dynamic interaction of cultures, make for women from all over the world share their beauty secrets resulting in vast beauty options and a highly educated audience in this category,” said Maida. This classy, unique, prestigious affair has been named “Fashion event of the Year”, by Vocess Magazine. “It has been a long time since we have covered something so elegant and well put together.” “Hair, Beauty & Fashion 2010 sets a new standard for Miami fashion showcases” Vocess Magazine staff.
