and hollerin’ and stuff like that, but really that’s about the extent of it. Most of them come here to have fun you know get away get away from school for a little while,” Dismuke said. But she too is concerned for the missing student’s safety. “I hope everything works out well and i wish the best for this young man’s family,” she said. Police have contacted family members who say it’s not like Reny to disappear without letting someone know where he is. Those family members say they are planning to travel to Panama City Beach tomorrow to help out with the search.

ANAMA CITY BEACH (WJHG.com/ News Channel 7) Friends and family of a missing spring breaker are sending out pictures of Reny Jose, hoping someone has information that could help find him. Bay County sheriff’s investigators have searched up and down Panama City Beach for traces of the 21- year -old Rice University student. Investigators are very concerned about Reny Jose. They found his clothes and other belongings in a garbage can near the home he was renting on the west end of the beach. Reny Jose arrived in Panama City Beach Saturday with a group of friends to have a little spring break fun. They rented a home on Front Beach Road. But the vacation took a frightening turn when they realized Reny was missing. The last time friends saw him was Monday about 7 p.m. When he hadn’t made it home by 11:30, they called police. BCSO Captain Ricky Ramie said, “Basically what we did is we called the investigations out as well as other patrol and marked units and we have searched the beach up and down and underneath some of the high standing beach houses as well as with the air unit we’ve searched very thoroughly in that area for him.” Carolyn Dismuke lives close to the area where the group was staying. Having lived on the beach for 15 years she’s seen her fair share of spring breakers. “I’ve see you know the typical riding in the back of the trucks and hoopin’

Obama and the large crowd at the State Department auditorium was moved and touched when Laxmi, a standard-bearer of the movement to end acid attacks, recited a poem recounting her experience on the occasion yesterday. “You haven’t thrown acid on my face; you threw it on my dreams. You didn’t have love in your heart; you had acid in it,” Laxmi recited soon after receiving the prestigious award along with several other women from different parts of the world including Afghanistan and Fiji. The original poem was in Hindi. Laxmi was 16 when an acquaintance

But Ashirwad, - A Blessing, a non-profit organization in Houston has not only achieved this but has taken it to the next level by teaching the simple art of vedic learning, both for the children as well as the adults. For three consecutive years, Ashirwad has been holding the Vedic Fair in the city drawing crowds in thousands. This year was equally exceptional and elaborate.

Recognition for her effort through this award, is a great encouragement and motivation for the girls and women of India, many of whom still are not able to speak out against the atrocities inflicted upon them, Laxmi said soon after receiving the award. “After this award, girls of India would think, if Laxmi can do this, I can also raise my voice against injustice,” Laxmi told a news agency in an interview.

Co-owner can force the sale of a house Q. My brother and I inherited our family home after my Mom died in 2010. He wants to sell the house to retire, but I do not. I would rather have the monthly rent that we both get. He wants to take me to court to FORCE me to sell the house. Can he legally do this? A. When two people jointly own a house and cannot agree on what to do with the property, either can ask a court to order the sale of the house and divide the proceeds. Because this will be a forced sale, involving attorneys and a legal proceeding, it is likely to produce less money than if you and your brother simply arrange the sale. My suggestion is to try to work this out, but if you brother insists on selling the house consider buying his interest yourself, or take steps to insure you get the highest possible price. Q. Can I name my husband as executor of my will if he also is going to be the beneficiary? A. Almost anyone may serve as the executor of a will, including a beneficiary. Basically, the only people who may not serve as executors are minors, incompetents, convicted felons, or others a court finds unsuitable. Q. My daughter was injured at the playground area of our apartment complex by a child throwing construction debris at her. The injury required sutures and no one wants to take responsibility. The parent hasn’t offered to help with the medical bills and the complex manager only asked if my daughter fell on the debris.

A. Suing for the acts of children can be difficult. It will depend on the age of the child and whether the parent was properly supervising. I assume this was a young child, under the age of ten. If the child is ten or older, the parent is liable if it was an intentional act of the child. If the child is under 10, the parents are liable only if they were negligently supervising the child. If the parent sat by and saw what the child was doing and let the child continue, the parent could be responsible. The child could also be liable if the child was old enough to understand someone would get hurt and tried to hurt your daughter, or knew you shouldn’t throw debris and still did. On the other hand, if the children were all just playing, and this was a case of “kids will be kids,” the child probably has no liability. If you think the child or the parent fit these standards of liability and no one will help pay of your bills, consider filing a claim in justice court. Based on what you say, the only way the apartment would be responsible is if it was negligent in leaving debris around the complex that children could play in and toss. The standard would be whether the complex acted reasonably with respect to cleaning-up the debris. Q. Do you still publish a free consumer newsletter? How do I subscribe? How often is it published? A. I continue to publish a consumer alert newsletter, and it is distributed three times a week by email. WATCH Committee members Colony Meadows 5th grade Choir performing at the Sugar Land Town Square
SUGARLAND – The annual WATCH Children’s Fair in Sugar Land Town Center gathered record crowds on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Over 3,000 people were drawn to the “Ready, Set, Go” event for the free health and dental screenings, immunizations, games, prizes, helmet giveaways, interactive games and fun at WATCH Health Fair. WATCH an acronym to ‘watch’ for weight, activity,
tobacco, cholesterol and hypertension is an initiative of the Ft. Bend Medical Society Alliance, in collaboration with Ft. Bend Independent School District. Since the year 2000, the physician spouses of FBMSA have organized the program and worked with FBISD schools to instill preventive healthcare in early childhood. Over the years, the program expanded to a children’s health fair and is now a commu-
nity collaborative program. “We are now beginning to see results in our students,” said FBMSA president, Nomita Bajwa. “Now, after 14 years, we know we are making a difference!” The WATCH program as part of the FBISD curriculum has been awarded by the Texas Medical Association Alliance for three consecutive years as an outstanding and innovative program. In addition to the partnership between FBMSA and
FBISD, local business and non-profit organizations have been instrumental in making the event possible each year. Methodist Hospital Sugar Land, Memorial Hermann, Kelsey Seybold, United Healthcare, Ft. Bend County Prevention Coalition, KBRZ Sports Radio, MetLife, along with Oliver Foundation, American Diabetes Association and others provided funding or in-kind donations for the event. UT School of Dentistry, UH School of Nursing, UH School of Pharmacy, UT Physicians Bone
Density and Blue Cross Blue Shield Van provided the screenings and immunizations. Children of all ages flocked to over 60 partner booths which were fun and interactive. Whether it was food demos or learning about tobacco risks or the proper use of sunscreen the crowd enjoyed the beautiful, sunny day, the fun and the exciting performances. WATCH Fair included student groups from schools throughout FBISD who entertained the crowd with
music, dance, yoga, roping, tinikling (performance art form from Philippines) kung fu, drill, color guard and other more. Mo of Sugar Land Skeeters Baseball and HEB Buddy kept everyone entertained by mingling with the crowd and joining the student performers on stage! Kejriwal apologises for clashes between AAP, BJP; FIR ďŹ led in Delhi by Priyanka Dube, Shreya Dhoundial, Rupashree Nanda, CNN-IBN
N
ew Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has apologised for the violence and street clashes between AAP and Bharatiya Janata Party workers in Delhi, Lucknow and many other places and appealed for calm. The detention of Kejriwal in Gujarat on Wednesday sparked off street clashes between AAP and BJP workers. An FIR has also been ďŹ led in connection with the clashes in the Parliament Street police station in Delhi on charges of rioting, damaging public property and obstructing public servants. 33 people from both parties have been detained at the Parliament Street police station. “Our workers were protesting peacefully. But they may have thrown one or two stones at the BJP workers after they
were attacked. I don’t think this is right and I apologise on behalf of my party. I also appeal for calm and ask my supporters to not protest further,â€? Kejriwal said. Americans would give up Russia, US seek solution to Ukraine TV before Internet: survey crisis at talks by Katherine Haddon

IEV, (AFP) - The US and Russia stepped up diplomatic efforts to defuse the Ukraine crisis Wednesday amid heightened tensions on the ground in the flashpoint area of Crimea as gunmen threatened the UN envoy. US Secretary of State John Kerry held the first direct talks with his Russian counterpart as Washington warned Moscow it risked losing its coveted G8 place over the worst East-West crisis since the end of the Cold War.

by Rob Lever WASHINGTON, February 27, 2014 (AFP) - Americans have become so enamored of the Internet, they would more readily forgo television than online access, a survey showed Thursday. The Pew Research Center survey released ahead of the 25th anniversary of the World Wide Web found 53 percent of US Internet users would find it “very hard” to give up Web access, up from 38 percent in 2006. Even when counting those who don’t go online, Pew said 46 percent of all adults would find it hard to give up the Internet. By contrast, Pew’s survey showed 35 percent of all US adults television would be very hard to give up, compared with 44 percent in 2006. Women were more likely than men to be attached to the Internet, as were people with higher levels of income and education, Pew said in the report issued ahead of the March 12 anniversary. - Cell phone second on list The cell phone comes in a close second to the Internet: 49 percent of mobile phone owners said it would be difficult to give up their handset, up from 43 percent in 2006. That amounts to 44 percent of all adults who say now that their cell phone would be very hard to live without. Meanwhile landline telephones are losing favor. Just 28 percent of landline telephone owners said it would be a hardship to live without this, a big drop from 48 percent in 2006. Because many people have already dropped their landlines, the finding means that just 17 percent of all adults would find their landline very hard to give up. Pew noted the spectacular growth in use of the Web, especially since 1995. Some 87 percent of American adults use the Internet, either from a PC or mobile device, up from 14 percent in 1995. Pew also found that Americans are using the Web more often: 71 percent go online on a typical day, compared with 29 percent in 2000. In 1995, 42 percent of US adults had never heard of the Internet and another 21 percent had only a vague notion of what it was. The rise of mobile device use represents the biggest shift in access in recent years: 68 percent of US adults now access the Internet on a cell phone, tablet, or other mobile device, at least occasionally, Pew found. Pew found that 90 percent of US adults have a cell phone and twothirds of those use their device to go online. A third of cell phone owners say that their primary online access point is their phone. Mobile access took a huge leap forward with the introduction of the iPhone in 2007, and some 58 percent of adults have a smartphone now. - Web is ‘a good thing’ The report found 90 percent of Internet users say the World Wide Web has been a good thing for them personally and only six percent say it has been a bad thing. Three out of four said it been a good thing for society, while 15 percent say it has been negative. “Using the Web -- browsing it, searching it, sharing on it -- has become the main activity for hundreds of millions of people around the globe,” Pew said. “Its birthday offers an occasion to revisit the ways it has made the internet a part of Americans’ social lives.” “Today the market for fitness bands is growing well and this segment will be exploited over the next years,” said Annette Zimermann, analyst at technology consultants Gartner Inc. His arrival at Balenciaga in late 2012 followed the departure of Nicolas Ghesquiere, considered to have made the house very much his own during his 15-year tenure. India’s Arora, meanwhile, laid on the sporty youthfulness with a shovel in a collection characterised by colour overload. Hooded puffa capes came in printed waterproof techno fabric while other capes showcased Arora’s signature embroidery.

PARIS, February 27, 2014 (AFP) Balenciaga designer Alexander Wang on Thursday served up knitwear with a dash of colour at Paris fashion while Manish Arora simply took psychedelic and turned it up several notches.
The designer said he noticed that knitwear was “quite absent” while going through the archives at the fashion house and decided to try and bring some of that “vocabulary” to his collection.
A year after making his debut for Balenciaga, one of the most illustrious names in fashion, New York wonder boy Wang, 30, said he had delved into his own knitwear background for his latest collection, continuing the process he began last season of stamping his own mark on the house.
For autumn/winter 2014/15, Wang went for knit dresses with big stripes in orange and navy or purple and black, while asymmetrical jackets and coats came in mottled lilac and crimson or black and yellow with black trims.
“It started with the idea of the sweater... almost every look has an element of knitwear, whether embroidered, whether printed or laminated,” Wang
In other looks, leg-elongating slim fitted trousers with a slight flare were teamed with jackets with wide faux fur collars and strips down the front. Considered a prodigious talent by the fashion world, the designer who
Laplandic pom-pom hats, Peruvian circle skirts, dropwaisted Chinese workers’ trousers and dangly multi-chain gold jewellery all made an appearance and Arora’s LED-lit flashing sneakers teamed with striped leg warmers were almost a show in themselves. Elsewhere on Thursday, Frenchman Guillaume Henry also brightened up his Carven collection with plenty of winterwarming colour -- with looks in peach, light blue, crimson and burgundy. Coats and jackets came with wide belts, zip fronts and highnecked collars; skirts were short with thigh boots or long but split at the front to well above the knee. The Paris collections move towards their mid-point on Friday with shows by Dior, Isabel Marant and Issey Miyake. Nine days of ready-to-wear collections for autumn/winter 2014/15 -- featuring some 90 shows -- are due to wrap up on Wednesday. thought of the ultimate response to Dr. Robert Ivany’s question. “What makes a leader?” he asked. In my head, I had a jumble of words and sentences ready to blurt out my complex definition of a leader. It was an intricate description that probably only I out of the many people in the room would have understood. As the son of Hungarian refugees from World War 2 who moved to Ohio to escape the “evil empire” of communism, Dr. Ivany changed my definition of a leader. setting from his Army life, both require the qualities of a leader: a person who has faith and character. Dr. Ivany changed the ambiance in the room with his perfect definition of a leader- someone who not only has a stellar and confident personality, but also devotion. As a high school student, sometimes my faith gets pushed to the corner, as I have college applications and after-

There’s not a day where my faith is not tested, but it gives me a greater opportunity to stay true to my own values and build my own characterthe person I want to become. Dr. Ivany reminded us that our beliefs make us the leader that we want to become. Besides, if a leader does not have their own faith in hand, how can one expect them to lead others to the top?

A promising alternative to fish oil source of Omega 3 production: Role of algal biofactories
Prof. Meenakshi Bhattacharjee by Prof. Meenakshi Bhattacharjee, Rice University, Houston TX. lobal fish stocks are declining and cannot provide a sustainable source of omega-3 fatty acids. An alternate source of this valuable product thus is a necessity to bridge the gap between production and demand. Worldwide, consumption of omega-3 PUFAs, estimated at 123.8 thousand metric tons worth US$2.3 billion in 2013, is forecast to be 134.7 thousand metric tons valued at US$2.5 billion in 2014. By 2020, it is projected that demand for omega-3 PUFAs globally will reach 241 thousand metric tons with a value of US$4.96 billion, thereby posting a volume CAGR of almost 10% and a value CAGR of 11.6% between 2013 and 2020. Omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) provide significant health benefits like prevention of atherosclerosis, thrombosis, arthritis, cancers, etc. and this has led to an increased consumption as dietary supplements. Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are found in animals, transgenic plants, fungi and many microorganisms but are typically extracted from fatty fish, putting
G
additional pressures on global fish stocks. Although the conventional source of EPA and DHA is marine fish oil, however, recent research have proved that higher amount of EPA and DHA can be produced by algae. When produced from algae, is a vegetarian source of docosahexaenoic acid, DHA that is a long-chain polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acid and is important for brain, eye and heart health throughout the lifecycle. Other applications include infant formulas, products for pregnant and nursing women, food and beverage products and dietary supplements. EPA is a polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) that acts as a precursor for prostaglandin-3 (which inhibits platelet aggregation), thromboxane-3, and leukotriene-5 groups. Health benefits of Algae produced Omega-3 fatty acids: Omega-3 fatty acids represent an important structural component of human cell membranes, particularly neuronal cells. The consumption of EPA and DHA supplements has been shown to prevent cardiovascular, nervous system and inflammatory conditions Regular consumption of ω-3 fatty acids can help reduce the risk of hypertension, thrombosis, myocardial infarction and cardiac arrhythmias. This occurs because ω-3 fatty acids increase the high-density lipoprotein/low-density lipoprotein (HDL/LDL) ratio and decrease the total cholesterol/HDL ratio. Omega-3 fatty acids have also demonstrated positive effects on brain function and the nervous system. In pregnant women, the adequate intake of EPA and DHA is crucial for healthy development of the fetal brain. In infants, arachidonic acid (ARA), an omega-6 fatty acid, and DHA are also required for normal growth and functional
development. Interestingly, increased consumption of DHA may also diminish the severity of depression and schizophrenia. Immuno modulatory effects have been observed when ω-3 fatty acids were used in the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, psoriasis, asthma, lupus and cystic fibrosis. Children ingesting Omega 3 more than once a week had a lower probability of suffering from asthma. Increasing the levels of DHA and EPA in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis has also been found to reduce pain and improve conditions. There is currently therefore a large demand for microalgae in the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industry due to their healthpromoting effects. Microalgalderived PUFA, such as ARA and DHA are added as fortifications to infant formulae-an industry that is worth $10 billion per annum alone. To date, microalgal extracts can be found in many face and skin care products, e.g. anti-aging cream, refreshing or regenerative care products, sun cream, emollient and anti-irritant in peelers. Dermochlorella is actually extracted from Chlorella vulgaris, which can stimulate collagen synthesis in skin supporting tissue regeneration and wrinkle reduction. Protulines is a protein-rich extract from Arthrospira (Spirulina), which helps combat early skin aging, exerting a tightening effect and preventing wrinkle formation. Algal strains rich in Omega-3 fatty acids: Microalgae can supply omega-3 fatty acids at high concentrations. Species of Crypthecodinium, Thraustochytrium, Ulkenia and Schizochytrium are rich the omega-3 fatty acid DHA, while species of Phaeodactylum, Chlorella, Monodus,
and Nannochloropsis are rich in EPA. Crypthecodinium cohnii is a heterotrophic algal species that is currently used to produce the DHA used in many infant formulas. Research efforts have revealed that approximately 50% Thraustochytrium aureum’s total fatty acids are DHA. Phaeodactylum tricornutum is a high EPA-producing algal species with EPA comprising 3040% of its total fatty acids when grown using optimum culture conditions. Monodus species are photoautotrophic algae that can produce high levels of EPA, but the dependence on light results in low cell densities making them unfavorable species to use in the industrial production of EPA. The microalga Pavlova lutheri is a potential source of economically valuable docosahexaenoic and eicosapentaenoic acids. Over the past decade, algae biotechnology has grown steadily into a global industry with increasing numbers of entrepreneurs attempting to utilize its biochemical diversity for a wide array of applications. There are approximately 40,000 algal species, only a few thousand strains are kept in collections, a few hundred are investigated for chemical content and approximately half a dozen are cultivated in industrial quantities. Therefore, continued isolation and screening of microalgae is required, as well as more in depth studies into algal physiology, biochemistry and genetics. Meanwhile the processes for algae cultivation, harvesting and oil extraction need to be further improved in efficiency and costs. As omega-3 fatty acids are one of the most valuable products from microalgae, they are likely to be the “game-changer” towards large-scale economical microalgae cultivation that will catalyze the production of other important algal bioproducts.

Do I Have to Get Obama Care by March End? Despite what you may have heard, you can’t be arrested or thrown in jail if you don’t have health insurance in Texas. You can, however, be forced to pay a tax penalty if you aren’t enrolled in a health insurance plan by March 31, 2014. To avoid the penalty, you must either obtain qualified health coverage or prove your eligibility for an exception. What Qualifies as Coverage? If you have any of the following types of health coverage, you won’t have to pay a penalty: • An individual insurance plan, whether purchased on your own or through HealthCare.gov, the exchange serving Texas • A plan (including COBRA or a retiree plan) provided by your employer • Medicare, Medicaid, or coverage under the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) • TRICARE (coverage from the U.S. military) • Coverage under a veterans health care program • Coverage through the Peace Corps If you aren’t sure whether your current plan qualifies, talk to the plan provider. What Doesn’t Qualify as Coverage? Some types of health plans don’t meet the requirements for coverage under the Affordable Care Act (Obama Care). These include vision insurance, dental insurance, workers’ compensation, coverage that is limited to a specific condition, and plans
that offer only discounted medical services. Are You Exempt From the Obama Care Penalty? Even if you don’t have insurance, you won’t have to pay the penalty if you qualify for one of the following exemptions: • You are uninsured for fewer than three months of the year. • You prove that you can’t afford coverage -- that is, premiums for a “bronze” policy cost more than 8% of your earnings. • You don’t have to file a federal income tax return because your income is too low. • You qualify for Medicaid under the new income limits established by the Affordable Care Act but, because Texas has not expanded Medicaid eligibility, you cannot take advantage of these rules. • You are a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe. • You are a member of a health care sharing ministry. • You are a member of a recognized religion that objects to health insurance. • You are in the United States illegally. • You are incarcerated. You may be eligible for an exemption under other circumstances, as well -- for instance, if you can show that obtaining coverage would subject you to serious financial hardship. Qualifying financial difficulties may include homelessness, eviction, domestic violence, death of a loved one, a medical emergency, or a natural disaster. In addition, on December 19, 2013, the Obama administration decided that people whose insurance plans were canceled in 2013 qualify for a hardship exemption from the law, for the year 2014 only. You can apply for a financial hardship exemption at HealthCare.gov. For the right advice and prompt enrollment call Sudhir Mathuria at 713-771-2900.

‘Tribo-electric,’ the buzzword of the future? by Richard INGHAM
O
ut at sea, gentle waves provide power for thousands of homes. In cities, dancefloor moves generate electricity for nightclubs. In the countryside, hikers use leg power to recharge their phones. It is an alluring goal of clean, reliable power free from geo-political risks -- and scientists in the United States said Tuesday it lies within reach, thanks to a smart way to harvest energy called tribo-electricity. Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology said they had built a simple prototype device that converts stop-start movement into power. Waves, walking and dancing -- even rainfall, computer keys or urban traffic -- could one day be harnessed to drive sensors, mobile gadgets or even electricity plants, they contend. Zhong Lin Wang, a professor of materials science and engineering, described the invention a “breakthrough.” “Our technology can be used for large-scale energy harvesting, so that the energy we have wasted for centuries will be useful,” he told AFP by email. “Tribo-electric” is a modern term with ancient roots -- from the Greek word for “rub.” Its electricity is created from friction between two substances causing a charge of electrons to be transferred from one to the other. It commonly happens, for instance, when plastic-soled shoes are in contact with a nylon carpet, causing the snap of static discharge when one’s hand touches a metal doorknob. Because tribo-electric is so unpredictable, it has been generally shunned as a power source. The preferred method has been magnetic induction -- a turbine driven by nuclear- or fossil-powered steam or water. But, in a new study published in the journal Nature Communications, Wang’s team said they had overcome key hurdles to converting a haphazardly-generated electrical charge into current. Their prototype comprises a disc about 10 centimetres (four inches) across, designed to show the potential from a small, portable generator moved by ambient energy. Inside are two circular sheets of material, one an electron “donor” and the other an electron “receiver,” brought together through rotary movement. If the sheets are separated, one then holds an electrical charge isolated by the gap between them. Sandwiched between the two discs is a third disc with electrodes, which bridges the gap and helps a small current to flow. At a top speed of 3,000 revolutions per minute, the device generated 1.5 watts. This gave it an energy efficiency of 24 percent, three times greater than piezoelectric, the previously best source of mechanical electricity harvesting -- and as efficient as magnetic-induction turbines.
10) When do I take my daughter to her first OBGYN appointment?
Sabina K. Cherian, MD was born in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Houston Texas. She did her residency in Brooklyn, NY and resided on the east coast for the last 9 years. She practices obstetrics and gynecological surgery at Center for Women’s Health’s four office locations in southwest Houston. She can be reached at 281342-6962 private consultation or appointment.

Severe winter weather hurts US growth: Fed Beige Book
W
ASHINGTON — Severe winter weather hit US economic activity in January and early February, but the outlook in most areas “remained optimistic”, the Federal Reserve’s Beige Book survey said Wednesday. The regional review, which is used by Fed officials to set monetary policy, confirmed that unusually harsh winter
storms had hit manufacturing, retail and auto sales and construction in a number of areas, contributing to sluggish growth data. Growth was just “modest to moderate” across eight of the 12 Fed regions, while stable in one and slower in three: New York, Philadelphia and Chicago -- all of which were battered with intense snowstorms during the

and other large oil companies have invested record amounts on exploration and production projects to boost oil and gas output. Last year, Exxon spent $42.5 billion, an amount the Irving, Texas company describes as a peak. Tensions between Russia and Ukraine have not yet disrupted Exxon’s activity in Russia, where it is prospecting for oil and gas in Arctic waters, Tillerson told investors. “We don’t see any new challenges out of the current situations,” said Tillerson, noting this would change if there was government action such as sanctions. Still, the company has put on hold its pursuit of the Ukraine Skifska block in the Black Sea, it said. For 2014, oil and gas production is expected to be 4 million barrels oil equivalent per day (boed), little changed from last year.

period. Employment levels continued to increase in most areas, while price and wage pressures were mostly subdued. As in recent months, the report highlighted the existence of shortages of specialized skilled labor. Even so, the report concluded, “The outlook among most districts remained optimistic.”
Exxon expects flat output in 2014, spending to drop 6 pct xxon Mobil Corp, the world’s largest publicly traded energy company, said on Wednesday it expects oil and natural gas production to be flat this year as overall spending falls 6 percent to about $39.8 billion. Investors who had expected production growth sent shares down 3 percent in earlier trading. The company’s current outlook for output, provided at an annual meeting with investors, was adjusted from a year-earlier to exclude some volume from Iraq and Abu Dhabi, the company said. “We took a set of low margin barrels off the base,” Exxon Chief Executive Officer Rex Tillerson told investors. Evan Calio, an analyst with Morgan Stanley, noted at the meeting that oil and gas production growth has been “elusive” for Exxon. In recent years, Exxon

But how likely is such a state of being? Chipotle doesn’t actually expect avocados to become so difficult to grow that they’re unaffordable. Instead, the chain likely mentioned the effect of climate change to cover its bases with investors. An employee prepares to make fresh guacamole at a Chipotle restaurant in Hollywood, Calif. (Patrick T. Fallon/Bloomberg) by Tiffany Hsu March 5, 2014, 10:32 a.m.
Growth is expected to pick up from 2015 to 2017, when production is expected to grow 2 percent to 3 percent as major projects add an additional 1 million boed. “Production has been down for a few years. It explains why this stock is a weak performer. They are spending a lot of money, but they are spending to tread water,” said Phil Weiss, chief investment analyst at BaltimoreWashington Financial Advisors. This year, Exxon said it expects to bring 10 major projects into production, most of them targeting more profitable crude oil or other liquids. “This is going to be a big year,” Mark Albers, Exxon senior vice president told investors. Shares of Exxon were down 2.75 percent at $93.88 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Courtesy: (Reuters) -
Chipotle fans – and there are many – are in a near panic over a recent report from the company which seems to suggest that climate change could cause guacamole to disappear from the chain’s menu. The reality may be much less dramatic. The hullaballoo started earlier this week when the Thinkprogress.org blog drew attention to Chipotle’s annual report, filed last month with the Securities and Exchange Commission. In a section of the report covering “risks related to operating in the restaurant industry,” the Mexican-style chain mentioned that “changes in food and supply costs could adversely affect our results of operations.” Factors for such changes include “general economic conditions, seasonal fluctuations, weather conditions, global demand, food safety concerns, generalized infectious diseases, fluctuations of the U.S. dollar, product recalls and government regulations,” according to Chipotle.
The company went on to describe how prices for many ingredients “escalated markedly” during 2013 and will likely continue to rise during 2014, especially for avocados and meat. Recent drought conditions haven’t helped. The chain also explained that its focus on sustainable and responsible sourcing forces it to operate in “generally smaller and more concentrated” markets, where pricing fluctuations are often more deeply felt. But the passage that seems to have resonated most with Americans notes that “increasing weather volatility or other long-term changes in global weather patterns, including any changes associated with global climate change” might impact the price or availability of Chipotle’s ingredients. One possible outcome could lead Chipotle to “choose to temporarily suspend serving menu items, such as guacamole or one or more of our salsas, rather than paying the increased cost for the ingredients,” the report notes. The Denver chain acknowledges that such a change could cause restaurant traffic and sales to take a hit and even
Other alerts from Chipotle in the same report caution that revenue could suffer if the company has trouble renewing existing leases or that some restaurants may close temporarily if an outbreak of food-borne illness occurs. Such warnings are par for the course for public companies filing regulatory documents. As Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold wrote in an email, the warning “is nothing more than routine and required disclosure. The sky is not falling.” “We have seen similar conditions with regard to avocados before – and incurred higher prices because of that – but we have never stopped serving guac and don’t anticipate that now,” he wrote. It’s a “non-issue,” he said. Chipotle makes an awful lot of guacamole, and 70 avocados are required for each batch. The company uses 97,000 pounds of the fruit on an average day, or 35.4 million pounds a year. But the avocado industry appears equipped to handle the demand, at least for now. Last year, nearly 1.7 billion pounds of avocados entered the U.S. market, 460 million pounds of the total originating from California, according to the Hass Avocado Board. (SOURCE: LA Times)

As per Indian Vedic Astrology the Moon sign is considered, in which every Rashi has control over certain letters, which are initials of your name. Whereas in Western system of Sun Sign, all the people born in one month belong to the same sign. For example, every year approximately around 21 of March to 20th April, the Sun is moving in the Aries Constellation. So all the people born in that month belong to the Sign of Aries. If you were born in between those two dates then you are a Aries born.
Aries (A,L,E) 21 March to 20 April Passion, excitement and the start of new ventures. The warmth you feel inside will spark your professional life. Get out there and enjoy all that life has to give. Look past others misgivings in order to take advantage of their expertise. You may not understand all the workings of a new technology, but you can figure out how to use it for your own purpose. Check your list and make sure you cover all the bases. Others will be ready to open up to you and to share all of what they have, both spiritually and physically.

emale sadhus, or holy Hindu women, have broken away from tradition and formed a new all-female group in India. Female “sadhus,” or holy Hindu women, have broken away from tradition and formed a new all-female group in Indiathat they hope will end male domination of spiritual practices. In the northern city of Allahabad a group of women sadhus formally established their group or “akhada,” holding ceremonies on the banks of the River Ganges which is considered sacred by Hindus. Mahant Trikal Bhavanta, a leading woman sadhu, told AFP late Friday that the allwomen akhada was believed to be the first in the history of Hinduism in India. An akhada is a group of sadhus — reclusive ascetics
or wandering monks who renounce normal life and are often widely respected for their holiness. India has more than a dozen such groups, all male-dominated. According to some Hindu lore, it is believed the first akhada was formed by Hindu philosopher Adi Shankaracharya in the eighth century with the aim of safeguarding the religion’s interests. Bhavanta said the all-women group was facing criticism from male sadhus, who claim the move goes against age-old customs. “Nowhere in the Hindu scriptures is it mentioned that women cannot have an akhada of their own,” she told AFP. “We are facing criticism from men because the move ensures that from now on, sanyasins (women sadhus) will also stand to rise in the
seers’ hierarchy, and the subjugation of women in the akhada system run by men will end,” Bhavanta added. Those who become women sadhus and renounce possessions in a quest for enlightenment are often widows. Every 12 years, the Kumbh Mela religious festival is held in Allahabad, drawing legions of wandering holy men and women. Smaller, similar events are held every three years in other locations around India. The event has its origins in Hindu mythology, which describes how a few drops of the nectar of immortality fell on the four places that host the festival – Allahabad, Nasik, Ujjain and Haridwar. Bhavanta said her akhada would participate with its own flag in the Maha Kumbh to be held in Nasik next year.

Leo (M) 23 July to 22 August Get back to your basic needs and wants. Your dilemma is that everybody wants a piece of you. There’s usually a reason for everything that you do, but your creativity may be driven more out of necessity than talent. If you want to try to turn this situation around, you’d better start now. Use the raw materials you have on hand to demonstrate your idea of art and beauty. You’ll have no choice but to be yourself when you journey on this new adventure. The mysteries will start to wear thin and expose the harsh reality that really exists.
Virgo (P) 23 August to 22 September Recent events have put your emotional and physical well being out of whack. Static energy will only cause you to short out your battery. Simple pleasures will be needed in order to help you to relax. Strong words will only bring strong re-actions. Realize that tempers may be short in those sensitive areas. You need a break from away from extreme solutions to dealing with simple problems. Stay confident in who you are and you’ll be ensured a smoother ride. A compromise on your part will restart stalled talks.
Libra (R,T) 23 Sept to 22 Oct Partnerships, which will bring you more resources than if you try to go it alone. Listen to reason rather than emotion. If you start to promote your own ideas others will find it hard to deny your requests. By week’s end, you should try to slow down your pace a little so you don’t forget certain details that are important to you. You’ll need a cool and level head while others are losing theirs. A secret will be revealed in time, so you’d better learn to wait. Know your limits and try to work within them.
Scorpio (N,Y)23 Oct to 21 Nov Put your ideas into motion. In order to accomplish your immediate goals, you must reach out and try new ways to get the job done. If you want to see results, you should know who can help. Maybe there really is a way to benefit from this power surge you feel. You have a great network of allies that can provide you with some solid support. Several unreasonable requests may be brought to you. Try to hide any displeasure or disapproval. The week appears dotted with demands and duties, especially expense and emotional needs.
Sagittarius (BH,F,DH,TH) 22 Nov to 21 Dec Someone who you’ve recently pushed away will try to return into your life. Everybody will want to be your friend, but your words may hurt your cause. You’ll have to work on being more understanding without losing your winning edge. The week end’s activities will provide you with food, friends and good conversations. The rest you get will help you to replenish your energy and improve your perspective. Get as much done early in the week as you can since cooperation is poor.
Capricorn (KH,J) 22 Dec to 20 Jan Your positive flow has actually put you in a better position than you were before. You may have to act before you think you are ready to do so. Trust your intuition and don’t allow others to intimidate you. Friendships and love relationships will flourish once you decide to speak strongly from your heart. Your wishes and dreams will thrive on the new secure place you’ve found within yourself. We may SEE the Archer shell out ‘like it or not’ and then “normal expense” would be the ‘mean line’.
Aquarius (G,S,SH) 21 Jan to 19 Feb Act on your emotions. Sometimes, you may be too quick to re-act, but this week, you’re right to take a stance. Others are the same as always, but your perception of them will change radically. Be aware that your words and your actions will affect them greatly. You can probably talk your way out it, but everybody is watching to see the outcome. Stay calm and your confidence level will rise. Everybody wants security, but their concepts may be different than yours.
Pisces (D,CH,Z) 20 Feb to 20 March Your need to find new ways to succeed. Before moving ahead on your own, think about ways to unite others. Human emotions cannot rule you, this time. You must try to look at things on an a more intellectual plane. Try your best to stay clear of those who try to bring you down to their level. You need to look beyond the immediate to understand how the bigger picture works. Everyone needs to feel secure, some may rely on luck but you have your own strategy in place. Making your family comfortable, secure and ‘harmonious’ is very important to you for several reasons and they may have to do with a deeply personal reason/s, possibly ‘new members’.
