A Purposed Creation
BY KERRI BRIDGES
“Torn apart, day to day, Circumstances overtaking me. Tossed about by things I can’t control, Doubt and fear are my dwelling place.”
This was the place I found myself many years ago. In the face of things outside of our control and with our greatest efforts at “fixing” things futile, I was overwhelmed and losing faith. My soul was downcast.
“Then I’m reminded of Your promises, I remember all the times You showed Your face. You gently whisper to me, ‘Peace be still,’ And I let my feelings go, And I let my feelings go.”
On an overcast Saturday morning, I had the rare occasion of having the house to myself. All six of my children and my husband were away, engaged in various activities or events. I got a phone call from my mother-in-law, Terry. She was well aware of our situation. I told her of the emotions that were overwhelming me. Her advice was: put it in a song.
“I am overwhelmed, I am overtaken, Swept away by Your love. Crashing down on me like the waves of the sea, Your love is taking my breath away, You’re taking my breath away.”
I sat down at the piano and breathed in. I closed my eyes and said, “Father, You know me. You know my heart. I’m releasing all my fears and anxieties into Your hands.”
“You are near, day to day, Your grace and mercy overtaking me. My hope’s secure for You are in control, Your presence is my dwelling place.”
I felt something in me breaking. Releasing. Liberating me from my mental chains. Quieting the disquiet of my soul. Restoring my peace. I stopped dwelling on my doubt and fear, and started dwelling in His presence.
“I’m reminded of Your promises, I remember all the times You showed Your face. You gently whisper to me, ‘Peace be still,’ And I let my feelings go, And I let my feelings go.”
Ten minutes later, this song was born. Lyrics written, melody sung, chords played. Victory won. Worship was and is a place of breakthrough. It is a place to surrender anything that does not line up with God’s promises. Let His love take your breath away, and allow His Spirit to breathe new life into your soul!
“I am overwhelmed, I am overtaken, Swept away by Your love. Crashing down on me like the waves of the sea, Your love is taking my breath away, You’re taking my breath away.”
