Presidentʼs Report Hello to all and we hope you enjoy the September edition of the VW Club of Victoria newsletter. As Brian our vice president reported last month I was swanning around the UK and France on holidays for the month of September. Thanks to Brian for holding the fort while I was away. And also congratulations to the editor and contributors of the August club Wagensville Deluxe newsletter. Great job all.

There was a couple of club events enjoyed by the membership during the month of August. I understand that theTeddy Bears picnic was a great day started out cold, but the clouds cleared, (no rain) and everyone enjoyed a great cruise to Eildon. There was 20 club vehicles in attendance.

This car club, like most, runs on volunteers. To make it great and keep it great, has and will rely on a core of individuals who keep things humming along. We are constantly looking for new blood on the committee who will bring a new perspective to way this club is run. If you are contemplating nominating for the committee but have some questions about the role or time commitment or any thing please contact my myself or any other committee member and have a chat about it.

We also held our monthly general meeting at the premises of Bayford VW at Epping. Apparently the weather was bit wild with heavy rain, cold, windy, but a test runs in a few choice VW's on the night made it well worth the trip to Epping for those in attendance. Our membership secretary Andrew Mengyel was particularly impressed with the R Golf (0 - 120km/h in 8 seconds after doing a "Launching Start" was fun!)

Day of the VW is rapidly approaching. At the time of writing this presidents report the counter on the club web site tells me only 62 days to go. Good news is that the planning and organization for our big day is well and truly on track. Major sponsors are all on board and we thank VW Group Australia, Shannons, VW Magazine Australia and Volkwerke for their support of the DotVW Vic 2010. More details regarding show and shine entry etc will be added to the web site and sent out in the October newsletter.

We have a lot on the social calendar coming up from late September thru to the end of 2010 (yes we can see the end of the year already).

Note, that we are still talking submissions for all years VW Golf's to be part of the Cavalcade of Golfs. There are a few years let to fill.

We have the annual club VW swap meet at Williamstown on the 26th Sept.

Great opportunity to collect up those unwanted treasures and turn them into cash, or find that elusive VW part or accessory that you have been searching for.

Look forward to seeing you all the AGM at Bells Hotel on the 28th September.

F GOL W V HE OF T S R A 5 YE NG 3 I T A BR Day of the Volkswagen 2010 – CE LE Call for Volunteers The Day of the Volkswagen is on again on The Day of the Volkswagen – Sunday 21st November at Yarra Valley Raceway.

Cavalcade of the Golfs The DOVW is the Club’s premier event and it’s on The DOVW is the Club’s premier event and the Club needs your help to run the day. In the past again this year on 21 November at a new venue, we have had 60 plus members contributing their the Yarra Glen Racecourse.

The theme for 2010 celebrates 35 years of the Golf time on the day to help make the day the great event that it is. so the day will feature a cavalcade of Golfs.

Cavalcade entrants do not have to be fully restored vehicles, daily drivers are most welcome.

If you would like to include your Golf in the cavalcade the Club will give you a limited edition cavalcade car badge as a thank you.

Dominic D'acri is organizing the cavalcade so to submit your Golf please email your details including your Golf’s year of manufacture to farlowj@internex.net.au and your information will be passed on to Dominic. If you have an interesting story or some facts about you car please include them.

We reached Eildon around 12:00 or so, set up immediately in the sheltered area, next to the Dam poundage, some Members commenting who were there last year, how the water levels in the Poundage had changed from nearly empty to almost full in one year.

Picnic baskets then came out from the various VW's parked around the car park, with food then set on the tables, as well as all the Teddy Bears set out on display, ready for Judging.Some of the group wandered into the Township, all the while soaking up the warm sun of the day.

After Lunch, the Judging began, which was challenging, as the displays were all of a high standard, the mix and variety making it all the more interesting as the day wore on.

Finally, the Judging was complete, the prizes given out (names here unfortunately escape me- I apologize, but you know who you are), and then at around 2:00 pm the day began to wind up, and one by one, the various VW's and their Families, left to make their way back home.

After some final chatting and catching up, we all left to make our way back to Melbourne.

In conclusion, I'm sure that all had a great day, and we all gratefully acknowledge our Thanks to the organizers of the day, John and Jan Stevens, for without their efforts and display, this event would not have been as enjoyable as it was.

Technical Training @ Kangan Institute If you would like to learn more about how your car works, and perhaps even be able to get it going again after a breakdown then have a think about attending a customised car maintenance course offered to the VW Club by Kangan Institute.

The course can be based on either 8, 2 hour sessions (from 6.00 – 8.00pm one evening a week), or 16 hours spread over two or three Saturdays. The venue would be the Coburg or Richmond campus depending on numbers.

The training will be classroom style and we can provide a VW for use in any practical sessions. The course training notes will be a Haynes Manual, covering the vehicle of your choice.

If you are interested in completing future courses either ring me on 0418 357416 or email farlowj@internex.net.au. Please let me know the session preference, either weeknights over 8 weeks or spread over 2-3 Saturdays and the preferred vehicle for the Haynes Manual.

John Farlow Late Breaking News The first course has been organised to commence on Tuesday 12 October and run for 8 weeks ending on Tuesday 30 November, starting at 6.00pm and ending at 8.00pm.

The campus will be the Richmond campus. There may be spaces open on this course so it you want to join in get your application in quick.

We had a good contingency of about 15-18 vehicles- a few of which joined the Cruise enroute. There were about 20 -25 people and Families which made up the entire group for the run. After joining up at the Croydon Hotel, and a short briefing by the organizers, John and Jan Stevens, we all started our vehicles and formed a VW convoy, to leave at 9:30am for the drive to Eildon. We had an uneventful run to Eildon, joined by a Type 3 from Shepparton, and pointing out along the way evidence of the recent rains the area had as we drive through the various small hamlets and townships along the way.

" On Sunday 29th, the Club has the annual Teddy bears' Picnic Cruise. This year the cruise was headed for Eildon, about an hours and half north of Melbourne.

The cost of the course is $3,605.80 catering for 12-14 students. If we have 14 students the cost per student would be $258. If the course is held on Saturdays there will be an extra charge to cover weekend rates.
