You may remember them from the Bridgeton Market and Deli in New Smyrna Beach. They closed that location to open 30th Street a year ago. The restaurant’s namesake is 30th Street aka Roberts Road at the Publix Plaza in Edgewater. The Dolbows are no strangers to the restaurant business, they had very successful restaurants in New Jersey before coming to Florida nine years ago. They have over 27 years of ownership experience in the industry. They completely remodeled the restaurant to give it a warm feel, kind of a Cheers like feel. You know, where everybody knows your name. The seating is plentiful with high tops and intimate booths. They have live music Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The menu has a vast array of items to choose from, it is an all American family style theme. The menu changes two times a year. Dennis comprised the menu from all the popular items they have served over the 27 years that they have owned restaurants. If you have a favorite that is not on their menu, mention it to Dennis. If it becomes popular, he will add it to the menu. As we noted before, they have great steaks, chops, pasta entrees, gourmet sandwiches, salads, chicken and more, including an all you can eat soup and salad bar. Every item is prepared and plated to order. From the Black & Bleu Chicken Salad, New York Pastrami & Rye to the Chicken Marsala, each plate is made fresh when the order is placed. This is not pub or bar food, this is fantastic food. Don’t expect fast food here, they need to have time to prepare your dinner. So when you come, enjoy your experience, relax and have one of their delicious appetizers and a drink. You will find the staff friendly and

courteous. Dennis and Debbie are there almost all of the time. Dennis heads up the kitchen, while Debbie runs the front of the house. They are open 7 days a week from 11 am to 9 pm Sunday through Wednesday and 11 am to 10 pm Thursday through Saturday. Catering is available for any occasion, your place or theirs. This is a great spot to have your private party or celebration. Happy Hour starts at 2 pm to 6 pm daily and Monday all day. They have 1/2 price draft beer, $3.00 wells, $4.00 house wines. Daily specials for lunch and dinner are always a great value. Monday is their Burger Day with $5.00 1/2 pound burgers served with Fries and slaw. Tuesday is Ladies Night with 2- 4-1 drinks. Wednesday you can enjoy a $7.00 1/2 carafe of wine and $.75 cent wings. Thursday they have Basket Day, where you can order a shrimp, clam strip of chicken tender basket with fries and slaw for just $5.00, also they have $1.50 Bud Light pints. These specials are available in the bar area only. Speaking of the bar, they feature a beautiful full liquor bar with all of your favorite libations. Dennis, Debbie and the staff, invite you come experience casual, fun dining at its best. Come dine with the the locals, it will surly become one of your favorite spots to dine. he Local Legend is how Chef Pete Marzo is often referred to. He has been providing culinary delights for over 30 years in our area and the northeast. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Pete started his pathway to becoming Chef at the young age of 11 working at the family restaurant. His mother was his mentor, showing him how to prep and prepare old family recipes that were handed down from generation to generation, most all from Italy. Pete continued to work at the restaurant while attending high school and culinary school at the same time. After graduating both schools, he continued to Chef at the family restaurant until he turned twenty. Members of his family had started moving to Florida, soon all of his relatives lived there. After some coaxing from his family, he to decided to move also. Orlando was his new home and Alfredo’s of Rome at Disney’s Epcot Village was his new employer. He started as Sous Chef for Alfredo’s, but he was not satisfied with that position. He became Chef at Antonio’s La Fiamma Italian Restaurant of Maitland but Pete longed for his own restaurant, much like the family restaurant in New York. A short time later he opened Chef Pete’s Italian Delight. He was a success at running his own restaurant, but tired of the rat race in Orlando. He just wanted to be a Chef in a smaller, quieter environment. That is just what New Smyrna Beach offered. Chases on the Beach became his new employer where he started as Head Chef. Pete was the longest running Chef Chases had ever had. His tenure was seven years. During that time, he trained many young people to become successful Chefs, even restaurant owners like Chef Eric of Flip Flops in New Smyrna Beach. Eric was mentored by Pete at Chases and later became Executive Chef and Owner of Flip

Flops. Pete and Eric are best friends to this day. Chef Pete was fortunate to work beside some of the finest Chefs in New York and Orlando. This experience taught him well, as he has attained over 40 awards for his excellence. Chef Pete is the only Chef to win all three categories of chowders in the same event at the Pub 44 Chowder Cook-off. A separation from his wife and ultimate divorce forced him to leave Chases to care for his two young Daughters. The court had awarded him custody and he needed a slower paced restaurant. Something less than the 70 hours a week that he was spending at Chases. His daughters Deanna and Crystal had to come first. A friend had opened a small Italian restaurant called Dolce Vita. That is where he met Chef Vittorio Tiano, another aspiring Chef wanting to start his own restaurant. Soon Vittorio did that very thing. He left Dolce Vita to start Tiano’s Italian Restaurant. Six months later, Chef Pete became part of Tiano’s. The two Chefs are fantastic together. The restaurant is doing a wonderful business. It seems the family tradition is going to live on, as Chef Pete tells us that his daughter Deanna has been working at Tiano’s for two years now. She has helped buss tables and works as a hostess. She loves working with her dad and who knows, she may become the next chef in the Marzo family. Chef Pete has a Sous Chef on staff who is also one of his best friends, Chef Jaica Canaca. Chef Jaica has been working at Pete side for 2 years and has been a great addition to the restaurant bringing his 10 years of experience. Chef Pete has been Head Chef for 5 years and has loved working with Chef Vittorio’s and his family recipes. Every item including the soups and specials are made fresh daily. Chef Pete even has his own herb garden where he grows his own herbs. It doesn’t get any fresher than that. Tiano’s Italian restaurant has recently remodeled their bar and dining room to a new level. The renovation has updated and given the restaurant a whole new look. Make your Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner Reservations early, as they always fill up quickly. Their Holiday dinners have become a tradition in the community. Call for their info on their New Years Eve party as well. Brittany Behage This month’s bartender we love is none other than Brittany Behage of Buffington’s Bar & Grill. She, like many, is a transplant from Michigan. She moved here five years ago and loves it. Brittany learned her trade the best way, from an old seasoned bartender that taught her the “old school” way of mixology. She began her bar tending career seven years ago at St. Joseph River Yacht Club in Michigan. She is quite skilled, and loves being able to make you just about any kind of drink you can name. Her favorite part of the job, is conjuring up fantastic tasting new drinks by combining all sorts of ingredients that you might not necessarily think to combine otherwise. “It’s all about being creative.” Buffington’s Bar & Grill was recently awarded “ Best Martini Hometown News “ thanks to Brittany’s love for the job. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her boyfriend, her dog, and going to the beach. During the snow months, Brittany likes to get in some Snowboarding back home in Michigan. One of her favorite drinks to prepare is her version of a classic... “The Cosmo.” Start with a shaker full of ice and a chilled Martini glass. Add to the shaker 2 oz. of vodka, 1/2 oz of Triple Sec, 3/4 oz of cranberry juice, 1/2 oz of lime juice or squeeze a fresh one in, same with an orange slice. Shake well and pour into the Martini Glass. Garnish with the orange slice’s rind, curl and enjoy. Better yet, come over to Buffington’s and have her make you one. See if you can stump her. She’s pretty darn good with her knowledge of drinks. Many have tried, many have failed. Also, while you are there, delight yourself with some of Buffington’s fantastic food. Azteca D’ Oro is a wonderful, authentic Mexican restaurant located in the Publix Plaza on SR. 44. The food is terrific, the atmosphere is warm and inviting.
