Carolina Care Bullies is a 501(c)3 tax exempt non-profit organization, comprised of multiple foster homes that exist throughout the state of North Carolina. Andy is a 3 year old Pit Bull/Boxer mix. He is a very friendly, eager to please dog. Andy seems to enjoy kids, because his tail goes a mile a minute anytime he sees one! He enjoys playing tug and loves to snuggle up with anyone willing. He is very food motivated, well behaved on a leash, housetrained and crate trained. Andy gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home. He came to CCB with a lot of medical needs but made a complete recovery thanks to his veterinarian and foster home. Today, he is a healthy, bright-eyed boy, hopeful for a loving forever family. Andy is neutered and up-to-date on his vaccines. Hope is a petite pitty girl weighing in around 30 pounds. She is getting settled into her foster home and learning to enjoy life as a family dog. Hope had been in a local rural shelter since October and was released along with several others into the care of rescue for a second chance at living the good life. Seized in a dog fighting bust the life of Hope and her fellow survivors can only be guessed at but Hope is ready to put all that behind her and let her inner lap dog out!! If you are interesting in adoption please email Rae@carebullies.org !
If you're looking for a lot of free kisses and a dog with major smarts, Minnie is your girl! She loves to learn and already knows how to sit, lie down, shake, stay, go to her crate, and "leave it". She would thrive with an owner that will continue her training. The only thing Minnie enjoys more than training time is snuggle time, and she wants nothing more than to be by your side. Rough physical play can scare her, so she'd prefer a home without young children while she continues to build her confidence. Because she had a difficult start to life, Minnie is hoping for a home that will provide gentle, positive reinforcement and that will let her explore new things at her own pace. In return she will be the most loyal and loving companion you could ask for. Giovanni is an adorable 29lb little boy! He loves to cuddle with his foster family as much he loves to play with his siblings. He is a very fast learner and already knows sit, down, come, crate and outside. He ALSO has perfect leash manners. Giovanni gets along perfectly with dogs, children and EVEN cats! He is crate trained and working on being house trained. He is doing great! He truly is the perfect family dog! He only needs one thing- a family of his very own!!!! Could that be you?
Dog/Puppy adoption $100 (includes: spay/neuter, rabies vaccine, parvo/distemper vaccine, heartworm or parvo testing, and deworming.) Cat/Kitten adoption $85 (includes: spay/neuter, rabies vaccine, feline combo vaccine, and deworming.)
Ellie is a very sweet adult female Chihuahua mix. She is around 2 years old. Ellie has nice manners and will be an excellent companion. She gets along well with other dogs and plays politely in a group. Barkley is a young female black Lab mix. She is very loving and active. She would prefer a home with a fenced yard and someone to play with. She loves everyone and has good leash manners.

Zeus is a male mixed breed, around 6 months old. This fella is a precious young man! He has a short tails and likes to wiggle, which means he is a very happy boy! We would anticipate Zeus to be a large dog when he is fully grown.
Kasey is a very sweet girl who is learning the ropes (literally! - we are working on her leash training!) She enjoys her play group, being outside and “owning her kennel. She is a young female wired-haired terrier mix weighing around 25 pounds.

She has some joint issues; her hips have unbelievable range of motion, although she does have dysplasia in one elbow for which she takes meds. This is one incredibly resilient and loving pup who would do really well with a family with another laid back dog with whom she can chill. She is current on all vaccines, heartworm prevention and is spayed.

Although I love summer, the one thing that bothers me about it is that so many animals are left outside to endure the heat. Please, if you see an animal that does not have proper shade and water, report them to your local Animal Control Department. Don’t let them suffer. We have the ability to escape into an air conditioned home or vehicle, the animals that are forced to live their lives on the end of a chain, in a pen or those left in a hot car with cracked windows do not have this luxury. We must be their voice! And PLEASE report animal abuse! Thank you to all our local shelters, humane societies, rescue organizations and volunteers for your hard work and dedication to help animals! I hope you enjoy the cover story of Susie, the movie. I am anxiously awaiting its release! Thanks Burgess, Emmanuelle and Susie for posing for the cover of Wag! Magazine after a hard days work on the set! Thanks again to all of those involved in the movie, the cast, crew, extras and everyone behind the scenes for working so hard to bring it to the big screen. And to my friend Donna, (Susie’s mom) thanks for all you do! You and Susie are making such a positive impact in this world by sharing your story. Please stop by to see our advertisers and thank them for supporting this publication - without them, Wag! Magazine would not have been possible. Now, it is with a heavy heart (and after MUCH prayer) that I must announce that this will be the final issue of Wag! Magazine. I have poured my heart and soul into this publication and it is hard to see it go, but it is time to say goodbye. To those of you who have advertised your business or sponsored an animal in Wag!, I give you my heartfelt thanks
for all of your support. I also thank the staff and volunteers at our animal shelters, humane societies and animal welfare organizations. They work tirelessly to provide for the needs of homeless animals - please support them and become a volunteer or a foster home for them. They are doing God’s work and they have my deepest respect. Please remember, the most responsible and important thing that you can do as a pet owner is to have your pets spayed and neutered. Thank you to my readers - I will miss you all! God Bless,
I just had to share this gorgeous portrait by Todd Belcher with Jimmydog Design Group of my sweet boy Sebastian. The photo on the left is the one I sent to Todd and requested the St. Patty’s Day bandanna be replaced with a red one. And yes, that’s his favorite bone between his paws! This portrait is something that I will treasure forever!

A locally owned and operated family business, all A.C.E. employees are long-term, loyal, well-trained and dedicated people who have over 100 years of combined industry experience to provide the best service in North Carolina. The monitoring station, Loss Prevention Services of Clemmons is UL listed, Fire Marshal approved, and IQ certified by the Electronic Security Association and is a CSAA Five Diamond Certified Central station - the highest ranking in the industry. In addition to Security, Advanced Consumer Electronics designs, installs and services the following systems: Fire Alarm, Access Control, Camera, Home Theater, Whole House Audio, Intercom, Home Automation & Wiring, Central Vacuum and Commerical Sound and Data Communications. A.C.E also re-keys residential, commercial, and high security doors and deadbolt locks as well as sells and installs monitored gun & personal safes. Our Company Dog, Samantha is 7 years old and is a loyal employee! Samantha can be found in most meetings and customer consultations - making sure everything goes smooth from underneath the conference room table. Home owners can ensure their pets safety at home with monitored smoke detectors as a main feature of their home security & fire protection system. If you are not home at the time of smoke detection or if you are in too deep of a sleep to hear noise, you and your pets will be in danger. With monitored smoke detectors, when smoke is detected, we dispatch the fire department and are able to communicate to authorities how many pets are in the home and where they may be located (especially if they are being crate trained or not visible like in a basement). A.C.E. also has special motion sensors that can allow your pet to move about in the home while the system is armed without setting it off. Monitored home security systems with fire protection are a key to the safety of you and your beloved pet(s).
Unlike conventional vacuums that just re-circulate dust, our systems remove dirt, dust mites, pollen, animal hair, animal dander and other allergens completely from living areas, creating a healthier environment. For those that have pets and wish to maintain the cleanest air and home possible, central vacuum systems are a great way to achieve the perfect pet karma! The best time to install a central vacuum system is during the construction or renovation of a home but in most cases we can retro-fit systems in existing homes. The staff of Advanced Consumer Electronics, Samantha and the rest of our canine family have been happy to serve you over the last 30 years and we look forward to serving the western North Carolina for the next 30 years.
Stop by our office located at 5103 US Hwy. 158, just west of Highway 801 in Advance and bring Samantha a treat and you will qualify for a free Security System with Fire Protection - drawing to be held September 15th - See you soon!

“Susie the movie will warm hearts, awaken hope and inspire people to change laws in their own states,” says Director Jerry Rees. “As a Writer/Director, I strive to tell compelling stories that touch the hearts of as many people as possible. So I jumped at the chance to tell the true story of Donna and Susie.” Rees plans to start “Susie” the movie on theater screens and then spread across all media formats in order to spread the message to stamp out animal abuse and make the world a better place. “Our stars, Emmanuelle Vaugier, Burgess Jenkins and Andrea Powell gave stunning performances. They are what I would describe as ‘game changing’ performances, revealing fresh layers of emotional depth that will delight fans and bring new fans,” says Rees. “I can’t wait to share their compelling performances with audiences worldwide.” Everyone that comes in contact with Susie is touched by her gentle spirit, including two of the star actors, Emmanuelle Vaugier and Burgess Jenkins. Both being animal lovers, each knew they wanted to be a part of this movie. Emmanuelle’s first thought when she read the script was “Wow - this couldn’t be more perfect for me!” Animal welfare is very close to her heart. She is the founder and spokesperson for Fluffball, Canada’s largest animal welfare benefit and she is very involved in Best Friends Animal Society in Utah. Her love of dogs and all animals made her a perfect fit for the role. “Susie's story is so powerful and moving. It was such a treat to be able to meet and work with the real Susie, as well as get to know her mom and dad.....Donna and Roy,” says Vaugier. She grew up with a poodle named Zookie. “ She was my best friend, she lived to be 15 years old - I was 19 when she passed, I was devastated.” Today, she shares her life with her two dogs, a silver toy poodle named Isabelle.... “She's 5 pounds and 13 years old.” And her adopted black Malti-poo, Jack. “He just turned 2, he weighs about 7 pounds. They travel everywhere with me!” When Vaugier is back in Los Angeles, you can most likely find her at the barn riding horses. When asked what her favorite scene is in the movie, she replies, “I have several favorites, but one of the most memorable moments was when we were shooting puppy Susie and Baby Girl eating breakfast at the table in the kitchen. During the first few takes, puppy Susie was so excited, she dove into the food bowl and everything went flying.....it was great, I couldn't stop laughing!” Visit www.EmmanuelleVaugier.com to learn more about Emmanuelle and her charity.
Burgess Jenkins has has been an animal lover since he was a kid, in fact, for a long time he considered becoming a veterinarian, so the story appealed to him immediately. “Equally, I loved the character of Roy; it's not often that I get to play a character who has true southern roots, is a gentleman and maintains strong values. Characters like that are quickly leaving our landscape as actors and it's a shame,” says Jenkins of his role. “Also, though I've been blessed to play a number of real people, it's always a thrill to get to actually meet the people you're playing and become a part of their lives. The real "Roy" is so dynamic and kind spirited - the moment I met him, I felt a sense of ease but also excitement to play him. It was a real honor to play someone so genuine.” When asked about his thoughts of Susie, Jenkins replies “She is an amazing animal. To have been through so much and still be so kind, gentle and trusting. It's also a testament to Donna's love for her. Really, she is a perfect example of what God can do with any of us if we're willing to listen and follow.” Jenkins continues to have a great film career. When asked about his favorite roles, he says, “Remember The Titans will always be dear to me because so many people have been moved by it and still tell me so regularly. It's very cool to be a part of a true story that's not just entertaining but also changes people for the better. I have to say though that Susie is way up there. The experience was second to none in terms of the cast, crew and the real Donna and Roy. It’s inspiring. Its story is much the same as "Titans" in that it's a true story that will more than just entertain - it will change peoples’ lives. Growing up in Winston-Salem, Jenkins and his family shared their home with a German Shepherd named Blitz and a cat named Mittens. “The irony of that relationship is that Mittens bailed our 100 pound German Shepherd out of more than a couple fights. She was like his mother and lets’ just say "you don't mess with Mittens!"”recalls Jenkins. When Burgess has some time off, at the top of his list is spending time with his family - his wife, actress Ashlee Payne and five year old daughter, Lila Harper, who keeps him constantly on his toes. “There is always something new to teach her (or for her to teach me). Currently we're taking drum lessons together. I asked "Drums? would you like to try guitar or piano first?" "No thank you Daddy. I really like the drums!" So despite the inescapable noise, drums it is. What can I say, I'm a sucker for her. I also like to build "stuff" in my free time. I built our deck and covered porch a couple summers ago and I'm always looking for the next thing to construct. My wife jokes that I'm going to be Mayor of Winston (-Salem) one day because I love the city so much. There’s something a bit idealistic about it. The people are fantastic and kindly and it's large enough to have a lot to do but small enough to maintain its sense of charm and history. That's an aspect I love, there are a lot of people who still know and appreciate the history of the city. Something you just don't see much anymore.”

The Jenkins home is currently pet-less. “We had a Black Labrador named Jake for 14 years. I got him when I was 21 and he was a part of every major event in my adult life. From graduating college, to moving to LA, to meeting my wife, to being the ring bearer in our wedding, etc. But we're looking into getting a new dog soon. After Susie, he or she will likely be a rescue. Changing lives... see what I mean!” When asked about his favorite scene, Jenkins says, “It's difficult to choose a single scene. Because the story is about Susie - I love the scene where Emmanuelle is leaving the courtroom and she's making her statement to the press. It is so harrowing and at the same time reminds us for the need to do more for these animals. I was just standing there listening and though I've read the scene 50 times, it got me...gave me chills. She did a wonderful job. As far as personal moments go, I'm partial to the hospital scene where Donna is waking up. That scene shows Roy's vulnerability as well as the depth of their love for each other. It lets the audience know that they will always be there for one another.” Jenkins also starred in “Red Dirt Rising,” another true story filmed locally about the old days of hauling moonshine and stockcar racing. Catch clips of Jenkins in action in various films and television series on his website at www.BurgessJenkins.com and learn more about this talented actor. An impressive amount of hard work from the cast and crew went into the making of this movie. “From the time John McKinny brought this project into our company, Stone’s Throw Films, the story of Donna and Susie stole everyone’s hearts,” states Laura Hart McKinny. At first I wasn’t sure this was the right project for us, then I met Donna and Susie. I remember John’s cheshire grin, “See. What did I tell you?” We worked on the legal behind the scenes groundwork in the fall and we signed Donna’s rights in December. The executive producers and producers worked tirelessly to raise donations for the film and met with private investors.” The movie is still in need of donations and investors to help with postproduction. “So much of this story is about reaching out to help each other through difficult times. Donna and Susie heal each other, and everyone involved in this story, every crew member, investor, donor is inspired by their palpable connection and thus reminded of our significant connection to each other,” says McKinny.

Donna and Roy Lawrence were on set throughout the filming of the movie. “Everyone did an excellent job, including Susie. I am so proud of her!”exclaims Donna. “Emmanuelle and Burgess really got into their characters. I was extremely touched by how gentle and caring Emmanuelle was with Susie.” The first two weeks of production were centered around the home of the Lawrences. The house used in the movie was located on Clover Street in Winston-Salem and beamed with a delightful charm and uniqueness. The courtroom scenes were filmed in Winston-Salem’s Millennium Center. These scenes were full of excitement as they portrayed the community coming together to bring justice for Susie during the trial. The shooting of the heartwarming vigil scene took place at the set of the Guilford County Animal Shelter which was located off of Coliseum Drive. From the hair-raising scene of Donna’s brutal dog attack, through her journey of healing and the devastating find of a burned puppy in the park to standing up for the voiceless Susie and other abused animals, to bonding and finding forgiveness together, this inspiring movie of two damaged souls will be life changing for all those who see it. Look for more about Susie the movie in upcoming issues of Wag! Magazine...

During a Thanksgiving trip in 2010 as Karen Wilson was traveling through Asheville, NC she stopped in at an outdoor store in Black Mountain. Karen was intrigued by a flyer about a program combining her two passions - hiking and dogs. The flyer contained information on how to contact the Hiking Hounds group and so she did. Last summer, Karen made another trip to Asheville to participate in one of their hikes so that she could learn about the program first-hand. Karen so much enjoyed the experience that she decided to try to replicate it where she has volunteered the last year and a half, at the Forsyth County Animal Shelter. Karen had spent a lot of Sunday afternoons at the animal shelter where she would walk dogs. “I could see what a difference these brief walks made in the lives of these dogs that must feel so confined”. She contacted Matt Smith, the Shelter Manager and met with him to discuss the possibility. “Matt was incredibly supportive and enthusiastic, and the Asheville group kindly let us adapt their training manual and application, so we didn’t have to re-create the wheel” said Karen. Matt contacted the media and during the first part of August, Fox 8 came out and did an interview which touched a lot of people and during the August volunteer training, a surprising sixty people showed up. “We began our hikes in September and do one hike per month. The dogs become so calm and social after their walks, so being given more time outdoors, exercising and being with people will increase the quality of their lives and their chances for being adopted. I also want the public to see what great dogs are available for adoption at the Forsyth County Animal Shelter many people aren’t familiar with the shelter and don’t realize what a wonderful place it is to find a forever companion. Karen says that her own three rescue dogs have transformed her life (as we all know rescue dogs do so well). “One of my dogs, Buddy, is a great hiking companion and we can be found hiking in the mountains most Saturdays. Buddy is a true hiking hound and jumps for joy when
he sees my backpack coming out on Saturday mornings. I want the dogs at the shelter to experience this same joy.”

Volunteers Jason and Jill Harper comment, “It’s great exercise for us and the dogs!” as they hike with Coco and Cocunut, two friendly mix breeds who were very much enjoying the hike through Horizons Park on this beautiful day. Rambo, an Alaskan Malamute was the hiking hound partner of Brooke Dodson. Brooke has adopted two dogs from the Forsyth County Animal Shelter and recently decided to volunteer with Hiking Hounds. “Great!” was her comment when asked about her first Hiking Hound experience, “I loved it and I loved all the dogs, this (the hike) is something I am going to continue!” The Hiking Hounds allow the adoptable dogs at the Forsyth County Animal Shelter something special that most shelter dogs don’t have the pleasure of enjoying... fresh air, an enriching activity, positive reinforced obedience and more exposure to the public. The shelter benefits as well, as the program attracts new volunteers. So, if you love the outdoors and dogs, come hit the trails with the Hiking Hounds. It warms your heart to see these wonderful canines get out of their kennels and enjoy the fresh air,, sunshine and socialization that they all need. For more information, call Karen Wilson at (336) 671-3921 or visit Hiking Hounds on Facebook®. Hikes take place the second Sunday of each month from 1-4pm. Hikes are a moderate 2 to 4 mile hike and take place at various parks like Reynolda Village and Horizons Park. If you would like to become a Hiking Hounds participant, volunteering is easy. Volunteer Orientation is held on the third Tuesday of each month at 6pm at the Forsyth County Animal Shelter and you must be sixteen years of age to participate. The Forsyth County Animal Shelter is located at 5570 Sturmer Park Circle at the corner of University Parkway and Shattalon Drive in Winston-Salem where many wonderful companion animals await adoption.

Gavi is a female 10 month old Shepherd mix who is fully grown at 50 lbs. She has never met a stranger and she really loves kids! She loves to play with other dogs in her foster hom and is extremely submissive. She is housetrained and crate trained and would do well with a moderately active family who can give her lots of love! Hansel can’t wait to find a family to call his own and would be best placed in a home with a fenced yard to keep him safe when he uses his little Beagle nose!

He’s a very energetic boy and loves nothing more than running and playing. When he goes out to play in the fencedin play area he runs wide open for about five minutes and then comes and sits by you wanting to play and be loved. He’s not quite a year old so he will need basic puppy training and the time needed for a puppy, neutered, up-to-date on shots with an estimated birthdate of 5/13/11. He would make a great addition into an active family. Looking for a gorgeous black-and-white Border Collie mix? Then meet “HARMONY”... a loving girl rescued by the Humane Society of Davie County from the countyoperated animal shelter. She’s a little shy when first meeting folks… but once you pet her… she just melts with love and quickly turns over on her back for a nice belly rub! She gets along well with other dogs, spayed, already kennel trained which usually makes it easy to transition her to being housebroken, up-to-date on shots, with an estimated birthdate of 5/31/11 and would make a wonderful addition to an active household.

How hot is too hot for my dogs to be outside? Great question and very timely for the crazy weather patterns we are experiencing. Unfortunately there is not just one right answer because there are so many different breads of dogs. The thick double coated nordic breeds would obviously struggle more than a lean bodied, short coated hound. The simple answer is to use common sense if you are going to leave a pet outside. If your dog is accustomed to being out, has adequate shade and access to water you should be fine. If your pet is not kept outside, is older, obese or a "flat-nosed" breed (pug, bulldogs, boxers, etc) you must be very careful not to let them overheat. Heat stroke happens very quickly and could be fatal.
Osteoarthritis or joint inflammation can effect all mammals at any age. We usually think of this as an “old” pet problem but because animals are so good at hiding their pain it is sometimes difficult to recognize the signs at any age. Recognizing pain can be difficult. Limping, reluctance to jump, licking a sore area or vocalization are obvious signs but, subtle things like sleeping more, being more reclusive, behavior changes even changes in eating habits can indicate discomfort. Many people think their pet is just “getting old” and this is possible but age is not a disease and assuring our pets a good comfortable life well into its senior years is possible for most. If you think your pet is in pain or has arthritis, answer these simple questions: Does your pet sleep more than usual? • Is your pet slow to rise or sit or having trouble with stairs? • Any limping or lameness? • Any excessive licking around joints? • Has there been any new behavior changes, like growling, when approached? • Any unusual vocalization, pacing or hiding? If you answered yes to any of these questions: read on.... Treatment options for pain and arthritis include: DIET: Proper quality and quantity of food to assure and maintain lean body mass. Many diets contain glucosamine and other joint supplements which can be helpful. EXERCISE: Low impact exercise especially swimming will help maintain muscle mass without increasing wear on the joints. PHYSICAL THERAPY: Several professional/certified physical therapy facilities exist in the Triad. These places can help design a safe program to increase joint flexibility and increase muscle mass. NEUTRACEUTICAL: Many over-the-counter products exist that make claims of helping to alleviate pain and support the joints. Products include: glucosamine, creatine, avocado extract, chondroitin sulfate and many others are available. Although there is little scientific evidence that these products work, most are safe and have wide spread support. PAIN MEDICATIONS: Medications from aspirin and narcotics to steroids are used to decrease pain and inflammation. If used properly they can be very helpful and allow your pet to move better and enjoy a better quality of life. LASER THERAPY: Cold laser is a fairly new technology that is showing some interesting results. By increasing blood flow to a problem/painful area we can reduce inflammation and help heal damaged cells. CHIROPRACTICS/ACUPUNTURE: It has been slow in coming to Veterinary Medicine but it is becoming more common and available and is also a very viable option when dealing with acute and chronic pain. SURGERY: In some cases surgical options should be considered. When acute injury or recognition of a congenital problem is going to cause long term problems there may be very effective surgeries to treat this. STEM CELL: Injecting stem cells into affected joints is starting to gain acceptance in the medical community. Although it is still a very new technology results have been showing some promise. Prevention is always the best option. Like all of us, this requires maintaining an optimal body weight and getting exercise to keep the joints healthy. Recognizing the signs of pain and getting medical help early can often improve the outcome and your pet’s quality of life. If you feel that your pet is experiencing discomfort you should consult your Veterinarian and discuss the underlying cause and treatment options.

Jimmydog Design Group, a family-owned portrait and graphic design studio, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Since its founding in January 2002, portrait artist Todd Belcher and creative director Stephanie Belcher have collaborated to create a company that reflects their love of animals through custom pet portraits, volunteer efforts to promote the care and welfare of homeless animals, and even the Company name. The husband-and-wife team chose the name Jimmydog Design Group after their beloved dog Jimmy, who they rescued as a puppy. For 12 years, he filled their lives with joy. (Sadly, he passed away in 2003.) Over the past decade, as the Jimmydog Design Group grew, Todd quickly gained recognition for his colorful, stylistic interpretations and his ability to create a composite portrait from multiple photographs. He draws and paints every custom portrait by hand, taking advantage of his exceptional artistic gift to convey the unique spirit and likeness of his subjects. The Jimmydog Design Group also comprises a fullservice graphic design studio, which specializes in design, redesign and art direction for market-savvy business and consumer magazines.
Todd credits his most important influences as not only his past teachers and other artists, but also to his parents as they provided him with a pet-friendly environment to grow in. “Sometimes my clients want subjects from multiple photos combined into one scene or an entirely different background. After taking all this into consideration, I do a preliminary sketch to present to the client, usually via email. It is obviously important that the client be satisfied with the final product; one way to ensure this is to view a working plan before the actual painting is begun,” says Todd. Todd and Stephanie share their home with their two rescue dogs, Freddie and Joey whom Todd takes for a walk in a local park each and every day. They are also very involved in the Forsyth Humane Society and Unchain Forsyth. For more information about the Jimmydog Design Group and custom pet portriats, contact Stephanie Belcher at 336-201-7475 or stephanie@jimmydog.com.
As an award-winning graphic artist, Stephanie has more than 20 years of experience in designing trade and custom publications with timeliness, creative quality and precision. “Stephanie’s designs rank right up there with the best and brightest magazine designs on the newsstands today,” says Nancy Butler, editor and publisher of Sleep Savvy magazine. She captured our vision perfectly.” A native of Georgia, Stephanie earned a degree in Media Journalism from Appalachian State University. She has served as an art director for a number of publishing companies, including the world’s largest trade publisher and the country’s largest privately owned custom publisher. Todd is also a graduate of Appalachian with a B.S. and M.A. in Art Education. He has worked as an art instructor in various settings, including public schools, community colleges and universities.
Todd Belcher combines his great gift as a painter with his natural empathy for animals and creates distinctively meaningful works of art. Whether it is a custom portrait of a beloved pet or that of a human, Todd magically captures the personality of the subject. He stays inspired knowing that his art will be deeply treasured by the recipient. His custom pet portraits have been featured in many national magazines and his work can been seen in many Southeastern galleries and exhibitions.

CGPR is a non-profit based out of Winston-Salem, NC that rescues and rehomes abandoned and abused Pyrs in North and South Carolina. We also serve as a resource for Pyr owners in our region. Find us on Facebook as Carolina Pyr Rescue or on the web at www.carolinapyrrescue.com. You can email us at general@carolinapyrrescue.com. Bella is a three-year-old Pyr who came into rescue several months ago. Because she had been confined indoors in her previous home, she was frightened to go outside. Lots of encouragement from the humans at the rescue and the positive examples of the other Pyrs, with whom she is very social and likes to play, have made a world of difference. Inside, she's a calm, happy girl who has the comportment of a show dog in the ring. She is crate trained and house broken. She would be a great addition to a family with another confident dog, and her new family should be willing to continue building on the good work done in rescue by rewarding her for being outside with love, walks, fun, and treats. Lennix is a three-year-old male who came into rescue from a shelter along with his sister, Lexie. Both dogs are beautiful, sweet, and very affectionate. Neither can get enough love. In their previous home, they worked as livestock guardian dogs, but they are so eager to be around people that we've decided to adopt them out as "couch guardians," or pets. We are especially interested in families who would provide a home for both siblings.
All dogs from CGPR are spayed/neutered and up to date on shots and vet care. Please go to our web page (www.carolinapyrrescue.com), Facebook page (Carolina Pyr Rescue), or Youtube Channel (Carolina Great Pyrs), to see videos of the dogs.
