[VALUES]

[WORSHIP]

Waldon Studio Architects (WSA) partners with faith organizations to share the gospel through the stories communicated by the built environment, with a belief that your building should exemplify your culture. Worship and community organizations touch the lives of others through a multitude of services and practices. WSA helps to extend that reach, designing a wide variety of facility types, including churches, family-life centers, housing, daycare, educational, multi-purpose, and sports facilities. We frequently work with faith and community-based organizations in the early stages of growthplanning, to provide master planning, feasibility studies, and concept designs that cultivate your vision and generate excitement within your congregation for fundraising or capital campaigns. We have created a design exploration process, inclusive of your key ministry leaders, helping you build consensus and increase your relevance to all generations, from toddlers to millennials to baby boomers to seniors. We rejoice in working with faith communities, designing beautiful, functional environments where members can worship together in community, engage in fellowship, and honor God.

Principal RAVI WALDON is a National Association of Church Design Builders (NACDB) Certified Church Consultant. This certification is awarded to individuals who demonstrate leadership in stewardship, facilities management, architecture, construction and project management.

[EDUC ATION]

There are no “typical” learning spaces WSA recognizes that there are no standard solutions for learning, as there is no standard student. As educational architects and planners, it is critical that we embrace the challenges of 21st Century learning. The world is in a state of change and learning environments must accommodate this transformation. At Waldon Studio Architects, we believe in a holistic, multifaceted approach. Engagement and teamwork amongst students and teachers is essential to the learning process. WSA embraces a like practice of collaboration and active listening. We support and adopt our clients’ visions by conducting research, asking questions, and providing a solution-based partnership. WSA values education. We are committed to the enhancement of learning opportunities across the company. Within WSA, all office staff serve on one of the following Knowledge Communities: Sustainability, Design, Project Management, Outreach, and Technical Standards. We seek to grow in our knowledge and understanding, not only of the design industry, but in our community and beyond.

Today’s learning environments come in many shapes and sizes WSA has in-depth experience designing educational specialty spaces for 21st century learning that require technical expertise for optimum performance. School environments must foster and encourage critical thinking, visual learning, communication development, scientific reasoning, creativity and active play.

Changes in learning environments are inevitable. This means designing for flexibility and adaptability. Environments must be able to accommodate a range of uses and educational scenarios, including: portable technology; active, independent, or self-directed learning; maker spaces; and specialty courses. WSA practices human-centric design; we care about people. Understanding the purpose life cycle for the space and how to serve future users helps us determine the tools, proportion of space, and composition necessary to fulfill learning needs. We customize the design to accommodate the specific technological and ergonomic requirements of our school clients.

[COMMUNIT Y CENTERS]

Community centers serve many important functions within communities and meet the needs of multiple generations of users. They need to be comfortable spaces where residents can gather and make important decisions, athletes hone their skills, and seniors find support and cameraderie.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

These types of facilities require a holistic approach to design that encompasses decisions relating to the volume of space within the facility, how the space is illuminated, the art on the walls, and even how residents flow from one space to another and interact with others along the way promotes order, harmony and community. Creating spaces that can be used in a multitude of ways to expand program offerings, making the best use of time throughout the day and designing with durability in mind to reduce maintenance and operation costs are at the heart of design discussions. WSA is passionate about community center design. We collaborate with the stakeholders to create the very best solutions to meet all needs and expectations of the end users.

[INTERIORS]

Office environments spur creativity, innovation, and collaboration. Community centers give voice to residents and strengthen interpersonal bonds. In sports and recreation environments it’s where athletes experience victory and defeat. Restaurants allow families and couples to reconnect and enjoy one another. Churches provide a place for personal and spiritual wellbeing.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

These environments, and more, are crafted through a careful sculpting of light, color, sound, texture, and technology. This is reinforced by the things we see and feel and hear. It is the furniture we use, the art we experience, the sense of identity we have when we are in a space that strengthens us. How we flow from one space to another and interact with others along the way promotes order and harmony. It’s about how privacy and collaboration must coexist so that both are valued and achieved. Created in the context of a brand and corporate identity we reinforce communications on a different level. It reveals the purpose behind what we do each and every day. It provides a sense of security and belonging. WSA leads a highly collaborative design effort that embraces the ideas of stakeholders and designers alike. We bring leaders together to create the very best solutions to meet the challenges and needs within an organization and exceed the expectations of users. We help to unify a common vision that embraces and meets the challenges faced within organizations to keep realestate costs low and attract top workforce talent. We wrap this in physical design solutions that reinforce mission and culture and sing of creativity and innovation. We deliver on time, on budget, and, we know our designs work. [SUSTAINABLE DESIGN]

Sustainable design can be attributed to all of our projects. WSA has in-depth experience with the USGBC LEED Certification process and expertise in sustainable and energy code jurisdictional requirements across Maryland, the District of Columbia, and beyond. However, regardless of the certifications required, WSA applies “green thinking,” and sustainable solutions to all of our projects. Whether we’re working on a renovation, addition, or new construction, our school buildings must be able to provide a safe environment while furnishing the community with a tool for environmental stewardship. Students, teachers, staff and community members belong in healthy facilities that encourage well-being and a connection with the environment.

[BIM–BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING]

Our team knows that in order to produce a great project, the design team must thoroughly cultivate and foster the vision. Building Information Modeling [BIM], laser scanning, 3D programming, fly-through animations and renderings are some of the many tools we use to develop a collaborative process between our client, consultants, designers and construction professionals.
