cover story
Jayman’s innovative Courtyard homes wowing buyers INSPIRED BY ITS STUNNING courtyards,
Jayman BUILT’s latest Courtyard showhomes in Cornerstone are wowing buyers with their innovative design and fabulous features. “The Courtyard models are a new product line for the northeast quadrant featuring a very unique design and the response has been phenomenal,” says Jason Perri, coarea manager, with Jeff Mitchell, for Jayman’s Courtyard homes. “I’d say 90 per cent of the people coming into our showhomes tell us that based on how they looked from the outside, they just had to see inside and they are wowed by layouts because they are unlike any double front attached garage home.” In fact, the Courtyard homes are made distinct not only due to the 10 YPNEXTHOME.CA
fabulous courtyards, but also because of their rear attached garages, which places a mudroom with built-in bench, hooks, walk-in closet and a half-bath at the back of the house, and provides a wider space for the front entry and living room. Jayman’s design also provides a separate entrance to the basement from the garage. “Without the garage in the front, these homes present more character and great curb appeal,” Mitchell says. “There are six elevations to choose from, so there are several variations on the exteriors from a very modern look to more traditional with nice detailing and front veranda options creating a dynamic streetscape. It also ensures a wider front yard and more windows that let in more natural light on the main floor.”
The design sees the elimination of the side yard on one side of the house, but this allows for a much wider side yard on the other side to create a private setting for the courtyards, Perri notes. “This is a completely private area where no one looks in from the next house, and it’s an incredible outdoor space that can be used any way the buyer chooses from a simple patio with an outdoor fire pit to an elaborate garden.” There are 40 Courtyard homes in total with three models to choose from: the two showhomes, Carrara and Istoria, both 2,138 sq. ft., and the Perth at 1,671 sq. ft., which starts at an affordable price in the $440,000s. Perri says the homes have been so well received by buyers that they’re already about 50 per cent sold.

“People really love the unique layout and the genuine feel of the homes,” he adds. “They like how they have a wider entry to greet guests, the wide open floorplan that provides great space for entertaining and having easy access to the courtyard that expands the living space to the outdoors.” The Carrara showhome is highlighted by its upgraded chef’s kitchen with built-in stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, an expansive island with breakfast bar seating and large walk-in pantry with a convenient desk around the corner. As well, there is an upstairs balcony that overlooks the courtyard and is accessed from both the master bedroom and bonus room. In the Istoria showhome, an elegant rear dining room is situated across from the courtyard providing a fabulous view, while the kitchen features both a pantry and separate spice kitchen, which can also be designed as additional storage or even a small office. The upstairs in both homes feature spacious master bedrooms with inviting ensuites that include walk-in showers, separate tubs, dual sinks and huge walk-in closets, as well as two generous-sized bedrooms, laundry room and bonus room. Showhome Review | SHANE HOMES
FROM ITS FRESH AND STYLISH DESIGN
to its stunning features there are plenty of reasons why buyers have fallen in love with Shane Homes’ Andorra II showhome in King’s Heights in Airdrie. The 2,078-sq.-ft. Andorra II continues to garner “rave reviews from people who love the design because it’s so refreshing and spacious with a huge dining nook and kitchen in the middle of the home and the living room in the back; it’s not your typical design so it really stands out,” says Area Manager Karen Kotchar. “The kitchen is amazing; it’s a chef’s kitchen – I don’t cook, but I’d look like I do in there,” Kotchar says with a laugh. “The island is so impressive, it’s about 35 sq. ft., so 14 YPNEXTHOME.CA
that’s huge, and people are wowed by it. It’s sure to be the hub of the party when entertaining. “Buyers love the open layout and the size of this model and are impressed that we are able to customize the floorplan to suit their needs.” The Andorra II presents a dynamic foyer with a richly toned hardwood floor that spans much of the main floor and the open to above staircase providing a view of the second floor. Adjacent to the foyer, the mud room, laundry room and garage entry have a gorgeous marble-look tile floor, and the mud room flows into a large walk-through pantry loaded with built-in shelves providing substantial storage. concept with a large dining nook, kitchen and living room. The kitchen is a chef’s dream with a large island highlighted by columns, an overhead arch and a curved breakfast bar at its focal point with seating for four. The kitchen offers a contemporary feel with cream-coloured quartz countertops and a hexagon-shaped mosaic tile backsplash that contrasts nicely with the dark cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. The counters along with the cabinetry also extend to the rear of the home providing additional space and storage. Double french doors off the kitchen provide easy access to the rear deck, expanding your entertaining outdoors. Across from the kitchen, the dining

nook is ideal for entertaining large gatherings with room for an expansive table and a hutch, and the space flows nicely into the great room that features a vaulted ceiling and a gorgeous wallcentred fireplace surrounded in marble tile from floor to ceiling. Upstairs is a spacious owners’ suite with room for king-size furniture and a beautiful ensuite featuring a large vanity, corner soaker tub, walk-in shower and huge walk-in closet. Down the hall are two generoussized secondary bedrooms and a full
bathroom with a privacy pocket door separating the vanity area from the tub and toilet allowing multiple family members to use the room at one time. At the end of the hall, a convenient wet bar is located adjacent to the large bonus room that is highlighted by a vaulted ceiling and an amazing built-in, wall-to-wall entertainment centre, which “really pops, and the wet bar is popular with families because they can grab drinks and snacks for movie nights without having to go downstairs; it’s really a convenient, functional space,” Kotchar says. Shane Homes has only a few lots remaining in Phase 19 of King’s Heights, but Kotchar notes there are “some really nice walk-out lots and lots backing or siding onto greenspace still available.” Visit the Andorra II or the 2,010-sq.ft. Budget 2017 short on measures to address affordability issues By Wayne Karl BUDGET 2017 MAKES HOUSING a
priority, proposing to spend more than $11 billion over 11 years in a variety of initiatives, but so far fails to address key market related issues – again. “The housing-related allocations in this budget are principally for affordable and social housing, so the key challenge of affordability for market-rate housing, and especially for first-time homebuyers, remains an issue,” Kevin Lee, CEO of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA), told New Home Guide. To help address immediate housing needs, Budget 2016 committed to invest $2.2 billion over two years, to give more Canadians access to more affordable housing. To supplement these investments, Budget 2016 also provided funding for low-cost loans and new financing tools to encourage municipalities, housing developers and non-profit housing providers to develop more affordable rental housing units. To build on these efforts, Budget 2017 proposes to invest more than $11.2 billion over 11 years in a variety of initiatives designed to build, renew and repair Canada’s stock of affordable housing, and help ensure that Canadians have affordable housing that meets their needs. These investments will be made as part of a new National Housing Strategy, to be released later this year. A Renewed Federal-ProvincialTerritorial Partnership in Housing Budget 2017 proposes to provide approximately $3.2 billion over the next 11 years to provinces and territories to support key priorities for affordable housing. These priorities may include the construction of new affordable housing units; the 16 YPNEXTHOME.CA
MORE TRENDING ONLINE ypnexthome.ca/news
renovation and repair of existing housing; rent subsidies and other measures to make housing more affordable; and other initiatives to support safe, independent living for Canada’s seniors, persons with disabilities and other individuals requiring accessibility modifications. Housing Statistics Framework As part of the National Housing Strategy, Budget 2017 proposes to provide $241 million over the next 11 years to CMHC to improve data collection and analytics. To address data gaps in nationwide housing data, Budget 2017 also proposes to provide $39.9 million over five years, and $6.6 million per year thereafter, to Statistics Canada to develop and implement a new Housing Statistics Framework. This investment is over and above investments under the National Housing Strategy. Statistics Canada will begin publishing Housing Statistics Framework data in the fall of 2017. New National Housing Fund Budget 2017 proposes to establish a National Housing Fund to address critical housing issues and prioritize support for vulnerable citizens, including: seniors; Indigenous Peoples; survivors fleeing situations of domestic violence; persons with disabilities; those dealing with mental health and addiction issues; and veterans. Administered through CMHC, the Fund will receive an investment of $5
billion over the next 11 years. “As expected, this budget allocates social infrastructure money to priorities that the government has identified to help those in housing need, but it also wisely holds some back for the complete National Housing Strategy later this year,” says Lee. “This will allow for more innovative solutions, which are needed to make public dollars go the furthest, for the most people, in the most effective ways.” Given the challenges facing firsttime homebuyers, more mechanisms to support well-qualified buyers are still needed, to ensure young families are not locked out of homeownership. “CHBA will continue to make recommendations through the National Housing Strategy process, and other initiatives, that can get to the root problems of housing affordability and fix them,” says Lee. Examples would include addressing housing supply issues, and curbing the excessive regulation and red-tape that keep family-oriented housing from being developed at sufficient pace, in sufficient numbers, at a price people can afford. Despite that affordability for market-rate housing wasn’t addressed in Budget 2017, there has been a gross lack of data in Canada on key aspects of the housing market, Lee says. “More data gathering and analysis that can support sound policy decisionmaking to best address affordability challenges are welcomed by CHBA, and were a specific recommendation from our association.”

Advice | CALGARYISM
Calgary new-home Buyers’ Guide: 5 tips to help you decide By Cody Battershill
MORE ADVICE ONLINE ypnexthome.ca/news/advice
ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT BUYING
a new home in Calgary some time soon? Whether you’re building from the ground up or are buying an existing residence, you’ll want to make sure that you choose the right house and end up 100 per cent satisfied with your purchase. So, how do you know if the house you’re considering is good for you? Here are steps you can take to ensure that you end up choosing the right one.
1 Building a new house The starting point when building from the ground up is lot choice. There are three main things you need to know about your lot: Price, lot coverage and what (if any) architectural controls there are in place. A lot with wider dimensions and away from a main highway is likely to cost more than a narrower one with a sound-barrier as its back fence, for example. A bigger lot may be ideal if you’re looking for more backyard space for the kids or to entertain guests. It also may give you more options when it comes to floorplans. Lot coverage is determined by the lot developer (usually a different company than the home builder) and dictates how long and wide your home can be. New suburban home builders typically have pre-existing builds which already comply with the lot coverage for a specified lot. Keep in mind that the allowable length and 20 YPNEXTHOME.CA
Architectural controls are a set of rules made by the developer that determine the design details of new homes.
width can restrict which floorplans there are to choose from, as some of these require the homes dimensions to be expanded. Architectural controls are a set of rules made by the developer that determine the design details of new homes. Some examples include the type of exterior, allowable colours, type of roofs and architectural style all together. New home builders will be familiar with all architectural controls in new suburban communities and provide several design options if you choose to build from the ground up. It’s important you choose a community with architectural controls that you like!
2 Selecting from floorplans Some new-home buyers prefer to browse floorplans before considering the lot. Builders always have a vast selection of plans to choose from; it’s important that you take your time and really consider what features will fit your lifestyle best – not just now, but in two, five and even 10 years down the road. Some important questions to ask: » How long do you plan to stay in your home? » Do you plan on having kids in the future? » Do you plan on having pets in the future? » Do you enjoy entertaining guests on a regular basis? » Do you like to play sports such as billiards or darts at home? Answering these questions and any others you can think of will help guide you to picking a space that has the size necessary to grow into and layout that’s compatible with your life. The amount of additional rooms and other functional spaces you end up getting will also affect your resale value down the road. Changing the floorplan can sometimes change the exterior look of the home. I recommend you determine what inside features you want first before considering exterior aesthetics, as the living space is much more important. MAY 19 - JUN 16, 2017 | NEW HOME GUIDE 21
New home builders will typically have a few show suites to give you an idea of the floorplan and interior features. Make sure to visit them all as well as many inventory homes if possible. If the floorplan you’re considering is different from the showhome, try to imagine what the space would look like.
3 Finishings One of the most exciting parts about buying a new home is getting to have 22 YPNEXTHOME.CA
a say in the finishings. While most floorplans are pre-determined and customization is somewhat limited, there’s typically much more leeway when it comes selection of finishings. Some considerations: » Granite, quartz or stone countertops » Kitchen, bathroom and lighting fixtures » Wood, tile, carpet or stone flooring » Doors and trim

Visiting all the model homes available will give you an idea of how upgrades look in actual spaces and can help you determine exactly which ones you want in your home. An experienced real estate agent will have your best interests at heart and help guide you through every step of the way, not to mention that they are paid by the home builder for their services – not by you! Ask your agent of choice for more information on how they can help you traverse a new home purchase with success. Wishing you much success on your next new home hunt in Calgary!

Road tripping: 10 scenic places to visit in Alberta Den of Antiquity PO Box 1192, Redwater Just like Canadian Pickers, you can hit up the Den of Antiquity and shop antiques in hopes of a rare find. You’re also welcome to appreciate the 1910 single-room Amelia schoolhouse where the Den is situated, though the drive up the Victorian Trail is easily one of the best parts of this trip with aweinspiring history and natural vistas.
Stony Plain Farmers’ Market 4905 51 Ave., Stony Plain There’s nothing better than the farmer’s market on a Sunday morning. Stony Plain has more than 70 vendors on the upper and lower levels of the community centre. You can get fresh veggies and flowers, but you’ll keep coming back for the cheesecakes, pet accessories, books, leather-work and jewelry.
Jurassic Forest If you loved Jurassic Park, then there’s an entire forest of dinosaurs waiting for you north of Gibbons. It’s a great place to take the kids or youngat-heart dino-lovers. They’ve got dinosaur replicas sprawled throughout the forest, searching for food as you dodge their feet and teeth. The kids can even dig up bones and take a ride on the mighty Triceratops!
Devonian Botanic Garden 51227 Hwy. 60, Parkland County This huge botanical garden is part of the University of Alberta and features a Kurimoto Japanese Garden, extremely beautiful to stroll in as it unfolds before you. For botanists, this is a must-see place with a diverse and native plant collection. And, for the average visitor, they have numerous events such as their Pyjama Party and Opera al Fresco that must be booked early. 24 YPNEXTHOME.CA
Barr Estate Winery If you’re open to trying unconventional wines made without grapes, you’ll want to check out Rick and Amy’s winery in Sherwood Park, located in the middle of their farm, amongst the sheep. You can take a tour of the estate for a small fee and learn how their raspberry and rhubarb wines have made a name for themselves.
Alberta Pioneer Railway Association 24215 34 St. NW, Edmonton A truly historic place, the Alberta Railway Museum is a non-profit completely run by volunteers whose aim is to preserve these vintage trains. They have more than 75 rail cars and locomotives from the Canadian National and Northern Alberta Railways. The museum itself is a tiny replica train terminal with a station and shops, where you can catch your train to the past.
Canadian Badlands Ltd. 181 Railway Ave. E., Drumheller The Badlands on its own is pretty fantastic for prehistoric geography and dinosaurs. But, there’s also the Royal Tyrrell Museum with dino
skeletons on display, or precision golf on the challenging course at the Dinosaur Trail Golf & Country Club. With so much history here, you might just be the next paleontologist to discover a prized fossil!
Edmonton Corn Maze With a new maze each year, you can’t opt out because you’ve “been there, done that.” The time to beat is 30 minutes if you’re a whiz at directions. If not, you’re free to wander about more than five kilometres of mazes. And, it includes the full farm experience, with barnyard animals, old-timey snacks and a spud gun to shoot old potatoes from a cannon.
Elk Island This is the perfect place to get back in touch with nature, with roaming bison and elk. Camp out under the stars or go canoing on Astotin Lake. Canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards are available for rental on site (on weekends and holidays). For day trippers in the winter, snowshoeing is a transcendental experience with elk wandering around as you explore the grounds.

Ask An Expert
Q&A
By Heather Ryan
Factors to consider before your start a deck project Q: What tips can you share for building a deck? A: “There are a number of things to consider before you start to build a new deck,” says Ron Heggs, director of special projects for Shane Homes. “First you should take the time to plan your deck with regards to its function, design and budget.” For example, do you want room for a barbecue, a patio heater, a table and chairs and/or any other outdoor furniture? Do you want an outdoor kitchen, a covered deck or pergola or a privacy screen? And, what materials do you want to use – pressure treated wood, cedar, vinyl, aluminum or composite material? What type of railing? What type of fastener choice for the decking? Are you building it close to the ground or up high or maybe more than one level? What about lighting or a gas line for your barbecue and patio heater?
“The type of deck you want to build, the type of materials and design all factor into the budget and are things you need to consider before you start the project,” Heggs says. Determining a size is important. “You may think a 10ft. by 10ft. or a 12ft. by 12ft. deck is big enough, but you don’t want to build it and find out that once you put a barbecue, a table and chairs and patio heater on it; it’s crowded with little room for family and friends.” A simple way to help you determine the appropriate size for your deck is to mark out the dimensions on the ground with stakes and ASK ANor EXPERT: by HEATHER string spray paint and then RYAN place or mark where all the items you want on the deck will go. “You can see right away how much room is available or if you have to make it larger.” Before starting construction, you need to check building codes and city bylaws, as this could limit the deck size, obtain the necessary permits and call to locate underground utilities before you dig. Also be aware that with a new home the ground will settle around it so make sure you have the grade built up under the deck to drain water away from the house. The size of the deck will also determine the number of support piers and spacing of joists, so it’s important to have a detailed design before you start.

Do you need a
LANDSCAPE CONSULTATION? By Brad Jackman
WITH THE WARMTH OF SUMMER just around the corner,
and enjoying the outdoors increasingly on your mind, is it the right time to be thinking about a landscape consultation? Hiring a landscape contractor can be a very discouraging time for some homeowners. Are you unsure of where to begin? What you want it to look like? Not sure who to contact? Here are a few tips to get you started on your landscape construction project. Have a plan. You can never call a company too early to plan for dream project. 34 YPNEXTHOME.CA
Many landscape companies are limited in the number of jobs they can do in a season. Having a plan and beginning the process early, can allow for your project to be started in your desired time frame. A consultation with a reputable landscaper is the best place to start when planning your outdoor project. Here, you can essentially interview your landscape contractor and become familiar with their ideas, company procedures and overall vibe. Hiring the right professional landscaper
is the most important step of your project. It is beneficial to do your research. Ask to see their portfolio, view their website, and look into some of the products yourself. Most importantly, ask lots of questions. Landscape construction can be done very differently. Hire a company which uses quality equipment, utilizes the best products available and installs everything professionally. It is important to hire someone who has extensive experience in the industry, and is a full service landscape company. Once a professional is selected a conceptual landscape design can be established. This will allow the homeowner to help visualize their yard before construction begins. It is important to understand that quality landscaping requires substantial investments of time and money. Thus, having a budget and planning around that budget will be crucial. One should also consider what kind of space is desired. Must it be safe for children? How much entertaining do you do? Are you a gardening green thumb? Or would you prefer no maintenance at all? These are the types of important questions you should have answered in order to create a landscape concept that works for you. Landscape 360 is a full-service landscape construction company. Our philosophy is based upon professionalism, quality, trust and respect. A locally owned and operated Calgary based company, Landscape 360 specializes in residential, estate and acreage landscape construction.

Advice | MORTGAGE MOGUL
Why you should use a mortgage broker By Jason Eldridge FOR YEARS, people wishing to purchase or refinance a home have always gone to the same place… their bank. Is this the best option for everyone? Not necessarily, but it is the one alternative that most people have been aware of, or felt obligated to use... perhaps until now. In the past, mortgage brokers were often called upon in cases where the client(s) did not qualify under traditional criteria, or they needed money quickly, and hence had to borrow from alternate sources. While mortgage brokers still assist clients with bruised credit or other qualifying challenges, the vast majority of our clientele is made up of clients with good job stability, and excellent credit history. So what are the advantages of working with a dedicated mortgage professional? Firstly (and perhaps the biggest reason for most clients), is the interest rate that can obtained. When you go to your bank, more often than not, you will be put into the uncomfortable situation of having to negotiate with your banker for a better rate. When you work with a broker, if you qualify for the best rates (based on your credit history), you automatically get the best rates. No tied selling. No moving all of your other banking and investments to the new lender to get the better rate. And the best part…it doesn’t cost you a thing. There is no charge for our service (when working with a chartered bank or regular financial institution. Even a 0.25-percent reduction in your interest rate, can save you thousands of dollars in unnecessary interest costs. Secondly, you have more lenders and options to choose from. When you go to your own bank, you only have access to their mortgage products. Mortgage brokers have access to over 30 lenders, including many of the chartered banks, so 42 YPNEXTHOME.CA
MORE ADVICE ONLINE ypnexthome.ca/news/advice
we have access to a vast array of mortgage options to suit your particular needs and goals. While there can be subtle differences, something as simple as better prepayment privileges may be a reason for choosing one institution over another. Thirdly, mortgage brokers cater to your schedule, not the other way around. Don’t you enjoy the process of calling your bank and then you are told that they can’t see you for a week or so because they are already “booked up” with appointments? Mortgage brokers will meet with you where and when you prefer, or at the very least offer you the convenience of arranging your financing via phone, fax and email. Generally speaking, you can be pre-approved for mortgage financing the same day you apply. Finally, mortgage specialists are able to offer their clients a more relaxed qualifying process. If you don’t happen to meet all of your banks’ criteria, they will often turn you
away, whereas a broker will continue to source your application to as many lenders as required to find you the financing you require based on your personal situation. If you are looking for a change, and would like to experience the convenience and value of working with a dedicated mortgage professional, please ensure that they have their proper accreditation. BLINDS: SEEING THE LIGHT… OR NOT! By Jane Lockhart
THE TOPIC OF BLINDS (hey, stop
snoring!) may not sound exciting, but window coverings and blinds, in particular, are an important part of the function and decor of our homes. Blinds may not be sexy, animated or extreme but they are exciting. We’ve been covering our windows for centuries. Before the 1600s, tapestries were used to cover both walls and windows to maintain heat within and to limit dampness in stone castles or palaces. Interior window shutters were used later through the 1700s, paired with glamorous drapery – again, not really for privacy but to maintain heat inside. 46 YPNEXTHOME.CA
Glass windows as we know them today are a relatively new invention, and having natural light within homes wasn’t really a “thing” until Victorian times with the popularity of architectural structures such as the Crystal Palace at London’s World Fair. From this the idea of having a lot of windows took off, as did the need for privacy from the teeming streets of burgeoning industrial cities. But maybe history holds no interest for you as far as it relates to blinds, so let’s get personal. Remember that first apartment you rented that had no blinds at all? To avoid your creepy neighbor, you either ended up
covering the window with garbage bags, or yes, even the Canadian Flag. See? You notice blinds when you don’t have them. So, here is a quick, blind checklist of what to look for, depending on what window you need to cover. I can promise you that every option has personality and will contribute to your space. For large windows in condos where you need sun and UV reduction, consider roller screens. These are modern and slick and come in lots of colours. For more texture on a window or to warm up the feel of a room, select a Mandalay style or
Silhouette by Hunter Douglas. It features horizontal veins or lines within the blind mixed with a sheer fabric. These veins move like a shutter, but the look is much lighter. Blackout blinds do exactly what the name implies: no light can penetrate their surface. This is good in bedrooms where darkness is required at any time of day. Matchstick or bamboo blinds are made of thin wood or woven grasses and add texture to the blind and can add pattern to a room. Shutters are still popular and make an excellent choice in bathrooms or places that you want good privacy and easy operation. An alternative to shutters is wood slat blinds. They look like shutters, only they are operated on a pull string. Less durable than shutters, these blinds are cost effective. Still not convinced? Check out a few websites such as merablinds.com, alluredecor.ca or hunterdouglas.ca to see how blinds can add to the look and comfort of a room. And this is the mastery of blinds: They provide that elusive concept of comfort by altering heat and light, texture and sound. All this in one simple product, and yet we don’t celebrate the simplicity and power of the blind. Fascinating, right? Now the next time your home is baking in the hot sun and you wonder why your electrical bill is so high, maybe you will reach for the blind rather than the thermostat.

MCKENZIE TOWNE is a picturesque
neighbourhood in the deep southeast of Calgary. It was one of the first newer developments to introduce the concept of a “new urbanist” community. A hub for young professionals and families, McKenzie Towne is a great community not only because of its affordable prices but also thanks to its variety of homes available. Lifestyle McKenzie Towne has a great visual presence with the picturesque High Street and wide open park spaces. The neighbourhoods have beautiful variations – one of the most popular spots is rows and rows of Brownstone townhouses complete with a scenic gazebo in the park in the middle. A beautiful neighbourhood that functions as its own tiny small town.
Vibe Just brimming with youth, McKenzie Towne has been known as a great place to raise a family since its inception in 2000. Plenty of wide open spaces and playgrounds, this is the perfect neighbourhood for anyone who has craved more space and their own backyard. An active community, it is not unusual to see residents jogging, cycling and walking dogs at all hours of the day. In the area Mckenzie Town presents average suburban living expenses and features the typical array of chain stores such as Starbucks, pubs that are affordable, easy to access and very friendly. You can expect to pay average prices for drop-in at gyms and yoga studios which give an added benefit to living in this community.
Planes, trains & automobiles Accessed via Deerfoot Trail, commuting from downtown will leave you with a quite a drive to and from work. There are also rapid transit commuter buses leaving downtown during rush hour, affording McKenzie Towne residents a swift route home. The neighbourhood also has quick access to Calgary’s bike trail system to ride to Fish Creek Park and beyond. The good, the bad & the rest An almost entirely self-sufficient neighbourhood, this main street shopping area contains multiple dental and medical offices, banks, grocery stores among many other amenities that help to keep residents satisfied. It is only a quick 11-minute drive to the new hospital in Auburn Bay. Plenty of schools in this area, too.
