BACK ON TRACK September it seems is turning a little bit back to the usual busy fall new homebuying season that we’ve come to expect. There are more show home opening events in and around the city now – of course with all necessary health precautions – and even more new communities are coming online. Take our cover feature - Bri-mor Developments is launching the latest phase of its hit West Grove Estates community, and Encore picks up exactly where The Rise at West Grove Estates left off. Cedarglen Homes is the exclusive builder in this phase and they are now open for business, and you heard it here first. You’ll notice there are even more Property Profiles in this issue than over the last few months (five, including the cover feature), which tells us that there is more confidence in the industry now and builders want to talk about their many projects. We also have the full list of winners in the recently held BILD Alberta awards. Kudos to Edmonton builders who took home the lion’s share of awards, although Calgary builders also did well in winning in eight categories. Congratulations to all the winners! On a bit of a sad note. We mourn one of our own; our intrepid sales rep, Anita Van Breevoort, passed away suddenly last month. I’ve only worked with Anita a short time, just over six months, but I’ve grown to love her sparkling, bubbly personality over that brief span. That’s our Calgary team in the picture (Anita on the right, with our digital expert, Rachel Feddema, and me) during happier times. I am sure her clients feel the same way, and she will be terribly missed. There is a GoFundMe page for her (Anita Van Breevoort Memorial Fund), and I am sure her husband and three daughters she left behind will appreciate any help.

The laned homes have often been referred to as the Goldilocks of homes. They’re not too small, they’re not too big – they are just right. No wonder it’s the home type that many first-time homebuyers, young families and even those with changing lifestyles choose. Calgary’s modern villages (Part 1) by PePPer rodriguez The success of many residential developments can greatly hinge on their proximity to amenities, especially commercial amenities. There is a natural synergy between them that sees these shops, restaurants, and services provide much-needed convenience to homeowners, at the same time these commercial entities benefit from the readymade customer base. This is why many high-density multi-family developments choose locations close to commercial centres and establishments, some high-rise condo towers even adopt the mixed-use design that bring these sought-after conveniences to the base of their buildings.
