IT’S THE SEASON OF THE SHOWHOME
You know what gets me excited for spring? Not the weather, which can be finicky at times in Alberta. It’s the opening of new residential communities and showhomes! I can’t wait to tour the many new ones that have opened up in the Edmonton region to see the new styles and lifestyles they offer.
We start with a good one this issue, as we have the new community of Élan on the cover. This new development by Dream in Beaumont hews close to the Francophone heritage of this small city just south of Edmonton. It is designed to fit a modern, active lifestyle with plenty of amenities and a location that merges the charm of an idyllic French countryside and a dynamic urban centre. Check it out today!
Spring also marks awards season for the local new home industry and we have the winners of this year’s CHBA Edmonton Region’s Awards of Excellence in Housing. Cantiro won big at the gala awards night and our in-depth company profile details what’s next for this multi-award-winning homebuilder and developer – and buyers should get excited.
We also tour some of the newest showhomes and communities in and around the city in our special features that offer to guide you on your own homebuying journey.
The year promises to be quite a ride for homebuyers and builders so join us monthly as we continue to chart the growth of Edmonton’s new home sector.

ÉLAN:
DREAM BRINGS BEAUMONT’S FRENCH-INSPIRED CONNECTION TO YOUR DOORSTEP
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “elan” as having “vigorous spirit or enthusiasm” and the new community of Élan in Beaumont certainly embodies this characteristic as it brings new, stylishly affordable opportunities for new home living to this vibrant small town.
With its rich Francophone heritage, Beaumont is the perfect setting for a community like Élan. But don’t let its small-town nature fool you, as Beaumont is one of the fastest growing communities in Alberta, and Élan brings the joy and energy of people-first home designs to the milieu.
“Élan is the culmination of over half a decade of active engagement with the local community,” says Jonathan Chan, general manager of Dream’s Edmonton Land division, the developers behind Élan.
“Beaumont has such a strong identity, and it was important to us to live up to the potential of that and not just bring more Edmonton to communities outside its borders,” says Chan. “Everything from the emphasis on inviting porches to the quality of the public spaces is
purpose-built for bringing residents together. We wanted to get it right.”
CLOSE TO EVERYTHING
Conveniently located just below Edmonton’s south border, Beaumont is close to the international airport in Leduc, employment hubs in Nisku,

and everything else you would need close to home. This compelling mix of a suburban pace of life with urban accessibility has made it a favourite among new homebuyers looking for a place to set roots in.
The 2021 Statistics Canada Census reports Beaumont’s population at 20,888, a 19.7 per cent increase over last federal census result of 17,457 in 2016. Élan now provides ample opportunities for these newcomers to find a new home in any size.
Officially designated a city, Beaumont has successfully preserved their rich spirit and a touch of French charm in the architecture, except
in their homes. That’s where Élan comes in, says Jen McDonald, Dream Marketing Manager – Alberta.
“Dream is driven to build communities that truly benefit its residents’ lives,” McDonald says. “People are seeking a sense of belonging,” and Élan achieves this with porch-front living, humanoriented architecture, and incredible parks in the community.
“Inspiring and accessible public spaces encourage residents to stay and mingle,” she adds. “And in a town that already boasts its own charm and appeal, it’s win-win.”
INSPIRED DESIGN
Élan checks all the boxes that these buyers are looking for with stylishly affordable homes from its founding builders that include Crystal Creek Homes, Homes by Avi, and Morrison Homes. Available are semi-detached (duplex), laned, and front-drive garage homes.
“Élan’s streets will be filled with a vibrant, diverse, and dynamic array of homes,” McDonald says. “Styles stay true to Beaumont’s unique prairie-meets-FrenchCanadian spin and include Prairie,
Farmhouse, Craftsman, French Country, and novel Quaint Quebecois architectures.”
Homes vary in width and detailing along a single street to help avoid a cookie-cutter look - allowing simple, timeless styles to breath and more complex architectures to truly shine. But, as in all other Dream communities, the cohesive vision for Élan is about connections.
PORCH-FRONT LIVING
Key is the porch-front ideal that Dream has instituted for many of its communities. Having front porches with big front windows and front yards, brings out the neighbourliness of the streetscape, and a friendlier outlook for the whole community.
“Élan is driven to bring that closeknit community feel right to your front door,” she says. “Re-introducing the benefits of porch-front living, offering a variety of architecturally unique homes, and creating incredible parks and greenspaces are the foundations of Élan’s vision. Nearly every home in Elan is steps from a community amenity, whether it’s a pathway, park, playground, sports courts, or more.”
To heighten the sense of connectivity, Élan’s central Parc Réunis at the heart of the community offers incredible, imaginative wood-built playgrounds designed to offer physical challenge and beneficial play.
Park benches and picnic tables empower people to linger and enjoy being out in the community under the shade of the pergolas. Sports courts and outdoor exercise equipment give adults more to do while kids run around and play. And on hotter summer days, venture over to Beaumont’s Four Seasons Park, just a 6-minute drive away, and take in an afternoon at the splash park.
“Dream set out to bring something to Beaumont that celebrates its roots and small-town charm in a more authentic, character-rich way. Something that makes people want to live there because of the lifestyle, not just because of the better home value,” McDonald says.
DREAM IN EDMONTON
Dream, of course, has a long history of developing some of the most livable communities in the Edmonton area. These include Tamarack, a 620-acre community with 67 acres of greenspace; Laurel, a masterplanned community centrally located in southeast Edmonton surrounded
by four major shopping centres, the Grey Nuns Hospital and Mill Woods Golf Course; and Maple Crest, a tranquil neighbourhood featuring water side paths, parks, and social connection opportunities.
Dream knows it has something special in Beaumont. “Beaumont offers an escape to the hustle and bustle of city life, where you can slow down and make the most of every moment. Exceptional trails, parks, and recreation facilities plus a charming downtown with shops, restaurants and breweries offer places for people to connect, have fun, and contribute to the positive impact in their local community,” McDonald says.

TAKE A TOUR OF EDMONTON’S
NEW SHOWHOMES
by PEPPER RODRIGUEZIt’s spring, the season of rebirth, and the air is filled with anticipation. And for many new homebuyers, it’s the anticipation of touring new showhomes. Edmonton does not disappoint as homebuilders launch their latest and greatest with an eye on innovation and catching the visitor’s eye. In many of them, “wow!” comes standard.
Showhomes have always been the best tool for homebuilders to attract buyers. It allows them to not only show off their skill and expertise in homebuilding but gives buyers an aspirational glimpse of the lifestyle that is possible for them.
All the new communities in Edmonton and region have exciting showhome parades to go through, a good tip is to go through the winners of the CHBA Edmonton Region that we have in this issue to pick out a list of showhomes to visit. In an effort to further “guide” the readers, Edmonton New Home + Condo Guide picks a few of the newest in town.
ANTHEM
Renowned real estate developer, Anthem, has a new homebuilding division of, and it makes a splashy debut in Edmonton’s new home scene. The builder, also called Anthem, is introducing several new showhomes in and around Edmonton this year.
“Anthem opened our first showhome in Edmonton in Glenridding Ravine in March. We will be opening eight more this year. Two in McConachie in May and remaining by the end of 2023 in Kinglet, Trumpeter and Dansereau Meadows in Beaumont,” says Megan Starke, Anthem’s Senior Manager, Marketing.
The 2,257-square-foot front-drive garage home has three bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths, an upper floor bonus room and a main floor den.
“We are proud of the homes we have designed as a team and every thoughtful detail we have planned. Homeowners can expect to see extra storage, oversized windows, soft
close drawers and cabinets as standard and much more.”
Following intensive research, Anthem has come out with home designs that are sure to resound with buyers. This has surely enriched the experience in their front-drive garage showhome in Glenridding Ravine.
“The showhome in Glenridding Ravine is incredibly well built. We have received comments from guests on the value of the construction quality. “We also took time to ensure this showhome was designed for the practical real-life use with our buyers top of mind. We want our showhomes to look clean and elevated like you see on Pinterest
but with a hint of real life added throughout.”
She adds that Anthem “prides ourselves in providing a top-quality home and experience and we are excited to bring our home standard to Alberta now. We are very excited to have this showhome open in the award-winning community of Glenridding Ravine.” Please register to learn more at anthemproperties.com.
COVENTRY HOMES
Coventry Homes’ showhomes are synonymous to “wow!” but they also inform visitors on the lifestyle that fits.
“For our showhomes, we love to show the same model in different
communities with different options to show clients how they can make different models work for their lifestyle,” says Tara Van Horn, Director, Marketing & Design. “While the showhomes may be the same model, they are completely different in interior design, layout and function.”
Coventry has opened two new showhomes since the start of 2023, with two more scheduled to open in Summer and Fall. “In January we opened one of our most popular models, the Dione, in the new St. Albert community of Nouveau,” Van Horn says.
The 2,105-square-foot front-drive garage home features a Nordic design influence, with a bright and simple colour palette with accents of black and warm, light natural wood.
Also new is the Lyra in the southwest community of Rivers Edge that opened in February. The showhome features earthy green accents with warm wood in the hardwood flooring, beams and cabinetry.
The Lyra showhome is 2,271 square-feet with four bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths. It features a central great room and rear kitchen with separate dining nook off the main floor living space.
The first thing visitors will notice in the Lyra is the abundance of natural light. The large windows in the foyer, stairwell, dining room and kitchen and open floor plan create a welcoming atmosphere that feels immediately comfortable and inviting, she says. “The light colour palette used throughout the home helps to accentuate the natural light, creating a sense of calm and tranquility.”
Her advice to visitors looking to buy a home while touring a showhome is to do a walk-through twice.
“When you walk through a showhome do an initial walkthrough to take in all of the beautiful finishes and design.
Coventry HomesThen walk through again thinking about how the floorplan would work for your lifestyle – and note what you would change!” she says.
“The great thing about our floorplans, is that they are just starting points- everything can be changed to better fit your lifestyle. From adding rooms to moving walls, Coventry Homes is known for our industryleading approach to flexibility – you can build your home, your way.”
Coventry Homes will be opening two more showhomes in the new northeast communities of Marquis and Marquis West in early Summer and Fall ’23.
Find out more at Coventry-homes.com.
MORRISON HOMES
Morrison Homes is becoming a bigger presence in Edmonton’s showhome game and their new front-drive and townhome models in Tonewood in Spruce Grove bring a panache that an ever-widening range of buyers are looking for.
“Close to schools, shops and across from Jubilee Park, Tonewood is a
perfect Spruce Grove community of multi-family and single-family homes and a lifestyle that’s in tune with the needs of your family,” says Dara Wyton, Morrison Homes’ Selection Studio Manager in Edmonton.
Morrison Homes’ front-drive garage and townhome showhomes here exemplify the stylishly suburban verve that the community strives for.
The 2,100-square-foot Webster II front-drive home has a very familyfriendly vibe with an open concept main floor and three bedrooms plus a bonus room upstairs.
“This Webster model has great flexibility for many model options, to help customize exactly what our clients are looking for. It is also our most popular model so we really thought it would benefit this community,” Wyton says.
“Since we have walk-out lots backing onto the pond we wanted a home that would showcase a family atmosphere at its best. Then we look at the elevation that would work perfectly with the exterior requirements. This Westcoast feel in tonewood works really well with many of our models.”
Morrison Homes is debuting its townhome models in Edmonton in Tonewood, and they have three showhomes to tour that display the full range of design variations and feature options.
“We are new to townhomes, and we wanted to show all our models we offer so we decided to showcase all three potential options!” Wyton adds.
The townhomes range in size from 1,280 to 1,426 square-feet and come with upgraded standards, including a detached double car garage.
“The wow feature in these townhomes is the space itself. Each model has a very open feeling with a neutral color palette that really will work with anyone’s design style and taste. Biggest wow factor for the townhomes by far is that not only do you get this wonderful interior space, you receive a fully landscaped yard, a wood deck and completed detached garage without Condo Fees. These are 100 percent move in ready!”

CANTIRO
WINS BIG AT CHBA-EDMONTON REGION AWARDS
by PEPPER RODRIGUEZWhen Cantiro’s CEO and Founder, George Cantalini, announced the rebrand of the homebuilding and land development company in October 2020, it was to establish a unified brand and a stronger market presence. Less than three years later, you can say that mission is accomplished. And how!
Cantiro marked a historic achievement at the 2023 Canada Home Builders’ AssociationEdmonton Region (CHBA-ER) Awards of Excellence in Housing by winning four of the top awards. It took home awards for Builder of the Year-Large Volume, Builder of the Year MultiFamily, Industry Leadership, and Best Community for The Hills at Charlesworth in Southeast Edmonton.
It brought home a total of 16 trophies, the biggest haul at this year’s annual gala event that celebrates the best of the local new home industry.
“The timing was a ‘perfect storm’ of projects and opportunities,” Cantiro
Homes President, Ryan Smith, tells Edmonton New Home + Condo Guide.
“With this accomplishment being the first in the industry, it shows a culmination of several years of hard work and transformation across our company. We want to thank our staff and trade partners for their commitment and dedication.”
In a way, the awards underlines Cantiro’s strengths as a company and its overall vision. It is the third straight year that Cantiro has won Builder of the Year-Multi-Family, showing its strength in multi-family design. This was also the first time that Cantiro won for Best Net Zero Home, which marks its path to the future.
“The wall in our main boardroom says, ‘Never been done has never stopped us’, and we will use these awards as motivation to continue striving for excellence,” Smith says.
Never one to sit on its laurels, Cantiro already has several developments in the works that
not only further strengthens their presence in the market but gives new homebuyers all the opportunity to own their dream home in a lifestyle and budget that fits them.
Smith says Cantiro has some new communities being developed for late 2023/early 2024: Riverstead in the southwest and Alces in the southeast. “Both communities will feature townhomes, single-family front drive, single family rear lane and three-storey single family homes by Cantiro,” Smith says.
There will also be new developments in Sherwood Park and St. Albert, including a new collection of townhomes. Interested parties can sign up for upcoming news and announcements on their website at cantiro.ca/contact-us.
As far as ongoing new homes and developments, Cantiro is selling across Edmonton with communities in Sherwood Park and Spruce Grove. These include:
• West Edmonton: Rosenthal – Front Drive Single Family and ThreeStorey Single Family Homes (New to this community)
• SW Edmonton: ONE at Keswick – Townhomes, Front Drive Single Family and Three-Storey Single Family Homes (New to this community)
• SE Edmonton: The Hills at Charlesworth - Front Drive Single Family and Three-Storey Single Family Homes
• North Edmonton: CastlebrookFront Drive Single Family Homes (just opened last summer – offering new homes within a mature community)
• Spruce Grove: Greenbury –Duplexes and Front Drive Single Family Homes
The enormous success of its Life Collection™ line of homes shows how Cantiro’s focus on the livability of home design has resonated with buyers.
“The Cantiro Life CollectionTM with homes designed for how you live at the centre of every decision, with each home created to support your family’s lifestyle,” Smith says. Check out how it fits various lifestyles at cantiro.ca/life-collection.
“We continue to grow and innovate not only through designing new home models and interiors, expanding our product line of home offerings, but also across divisions in our organization. With new communities to further create environments for amazing lives to happen, we are also working on new rental and commercial opportunities, and geographical expansion across Canada with new projects in Ontario and British Columbia.”

ACTIVE, CONNECTED LIFESTYLE PROMOTED IN EDMONTON’S
NEW COMMUNITIES
by PEPPER RODRIGUEZAccessibility, affordability, and amenities – not necessarily in that order – are what new home buyers are looking for in a place to settle down. But a sense of connectivity is just as important.
Communities with a sense of connection to nature, a connection between neighbours, a connection to the world around it – those are as important in choosing the neighbourhood to buy a home in.
Developers have taken pains to knit this kind of relationship between homebuyers and the communities they design and bringing in more and better amenities is one way of connecting life to the community lifestyle.
In this issue, we tour some of Edmonton and area’s new amenitycentric communities and see how connectivity influences lifestyles.
SOUTHFORK IN LEDUC
For the Showhomes Opened last spring – can we actually say New front attached garage and laned showhomes are opening May 13th for both Jayman BUILT and Homes by Avi and the Townhome showhomes opening this past winter.
Please change waterfall feature to just water feature.
Small town living never looked so grand! Southfork in Leduc offers the solitude and serenity of the prairies with the lifestyle and amenities that today’s modern world demands. And right now, it is growing –offering even more opportunities for homebuyers to live in this small-town haven with a grand design.
Southfork by Jayman Living offers plenty of room to breathe, space to stretch and a glorious place
to unwind. It is a neighbourhood designed to create stories with family and friends.
Southfork reflects a clean, bold, and decidedly modern interpretation of four tried and true traditional home styles. A high-contrast colour palette adds an element that’s nothing short of striking.
Connecting neighbours is important to its design and McKinley Park at the heart of the community brings residents together. With winding paths, two large BBQ pits, picnic tables and an abundance of green space it is there for the family to enjoy.
There are also three playgrounds, one area includes a BBQ area and a water feature. Children can enjoy a vast amount of playground equipment including swings, slides, monkey bars and even a climbing wall.
Walking trails and pathways surrounding the 12+ acre pond area. Beautifully landscaped, with a bridge over the natural vegetation and foliage. Watch the two water fountains while sitting on the benches at the lookout points.
There are more than 4 kilometres of pathways to walk, run, cycle or blade along throughout the community connecting you to community amenities.
Father Leduc Catholic School is a new Kindergarten to Grade 8 school located in the community of Southfork and is currently serving nearly 500 students. Located on Sheppard Boulevard, students in the community can take advantage of Southfork’s pathway system and walk or ride bikes to school.
Jayman BUILT offers townhomes, laned, front-drive, and estate homes in Southfork. While Homes by Avi has laned and front-drive homes. New front attached garage and laned showhomes are opening May 13th for both Jayman BUILT and Homes by Av. The Townhome showhomes opened this past winter.
But no matter which home type you build, living in Southfork is its own reward. The setting may seem to remind some of the Little House on the Prairie series, although the homes are certainly anything but little, but the life that can be found here can be just as quaint and fulfilling.

THE HILLS AT CHARLESWORTH Cantiro endeavours to create environments where amazing lives can happen, and nowhere is this sentiment made clearer than in their southeast community of The Hills at Charlesworth.
One of Edmonton’s most awarded communities, The Hills at Charlesworth shines again as it won Best Community at the 2023 Canadian Home Builders Association (CHBA) Edmonton Region Awards of Excellence in Housing.
It’s the second straight year that The Hills at Charlesworth won this notable award. The community has also received international acclaim
after recently winning the prestigious Royal Town Planning Institute’s International Award for Planning Excellence for its Sustainability Plaza.
The Sustainability Plaza not only brings to life The Hills at Charlesworth’s vision for a lowimpact development based on sustainable building principles, but more importantly, provides a safe environment where residents can connect. Children can play at the solar powered playground while parents sit back sheltered from the elements in the repurposed sea can containers with solar and wind powered Wi-Fi.
Natural areas abound in the community with plenty of walking trails for residents to explore. “While The Hills is a leading community in environmental development,” Young says, “it also features year-round outdoor activities, with a 9-hole championship disc golf course, skating ribbon, and toboggan hill.” Adding to the outdoor amenities, are three retail commercial centres, providing residents utmost convenience in shopping, dining and other essential services, like childcare.
“We strive to create environments for amazing lives to happen, and The Hills at Charlesworth embodies this sentiment. As a community that pioneered development east of 50th Street and south of Anthony Henday Drive, it is home to architecturally pleasing streetscapes and has ample amenities in a great location. The community is considered one of the most desirable places to live for residents and those looking to buy a home in a Cantiro community,” says Cantiro Senior Development Manager, Nick Young.
This community features a variety of product types from three of the city’s top builders (Bedrock Homes, Cantiro Homes & Jayman BUILT) including townhomes, duplexes, rear lane, and front drive single family homes, as well as brand-new threestorey single family homes. The final phase in The Hills at Charlesworth is now selling. It’s your last chance to buy a new home in this sought after, family-friendly community in Southeast Edmonton. Learn more at HillsAtCharlesworth.com.
The Hills at Charlesworth is only one of Cantiro’s award-winning communities. ONE at Keswick, Greenbury and Castlebrook are a few of their other prominent developments. Cantiro won big at at this year’s CHBA-Edmonton Region Awards of Excellence in Housing, taking Builder of the Year-Large Volume and Builder of the Year –Multi-Family.
Several of their other developments also won, including ONE at Keswick townhomes which won for Best Townhouse/Duplex Project. Cantiro Townhomes in Emerald Hills also finalized in the category.

ÉLAN IN BEAUMONT
The rich Francophone heritage of this young city just south of Edmonton comes through in its newest residential community: Élan.
Developed by Dream, Élan brings the front yard back to life and connecting community.
While Élan offers front garage homes backing onto beautiful green spaces for residents seeking the convenience of stepping right into the home from the car, one of Élan’s defining differences is its celebration of the front porch.
Charming, human-oriented architecture frames each side of Parc Réunis, and with porch-front options ranging from modest to as large as you might find from an equivalent front drive, homeowners can enjoy added outdoor living space, more plentiful natural light front and back, larger, and more flexible garage options, and greater connection to the community around them.
At the heart of the community, Élan’s central Parc Réunis offers incredible, imaginative wood-built playgrounds designed to offer physical challenge and beneficial play. Park benches and picnic tables empower people to linger and enjoy being out in the community under the shade of the pergolas. Sports courts and outdoor exercise equipment give adults more to do while kids run around and play. And on hotter
summer days, venture over to Four Seasons Park and take in an afternoon at the splash park.
Élan checks all the boxes that these buyers are looking for with stylishly affordable homes from its founding builders that include Crystal Creek Homes, Homes by Avi, and Morrison Homes. Available are semi-detached (duplex), laned, and front-drive garage homes.
“Élan’s streets will be filled with a vibrant, diverse, and dynamic array of homes,” says Jen McDonald, Dream Marketing Manager – Alberta. “Styles stay true to Beaumont’s unique prairie-meets-French-Canadian spin and include Prairie, Farmhouse, Craftsman, French Country, and novel Quaint Quebecois architectures.”
Homes vary in width and detailing along a single street to help avoid a cookie-cutter look - allowing simple, timeless styles to breath and more complex architectures to truly shine. But, as in all other Dream communities, the cohesive vision for Élan is about connections.

kitchen clutter Master the
by PEPPER RODRIGUEZAlberta’s leading home organizing guru, Megan Golightly, has long advocated for living without clutter to achieve a healthy lifestyle. She preaches the gospel of an organized lifestyle at home trade shows across Canada. Through her business, Go Simplified, she has clients throughout North America.
The cost of clutter is a frequent subject Golightly talks about in her trade show appearances, most recently at the March 23 Edmonton Home+ Garden Show. She gets into
the psychology behind letting go of things and offers tools, awareness and the questions to ask to change the way people deal with clutter in daily life.
She spoke with Reno + Decor about how letting go in the kitchen is the key to functioning smoothly in this essential room in your home.
The cost of clutter
Clutter can be costly – not just financially, but also in the way we live. “Clutter takes a toll in our time and energy. You lose money when you buy things that you end up not needing. Clutter adds stress, so it negatively affects our physical health. And when it gets out of hand, it can also put pressure on relationships,” says Golightly.
The kitchen is a likely ground-zero for clutter, especially for busy families with young children. That’s why Golightly says it’s absolutely essential to get a handle on the matter before it becomes a problem.
Sentimentality may be the biggest obstacle in getting rid of clutter or keeping things long after they have outlived their usefulness. “You have to get rid of things to stay organized. Duplicate items, old appliances, things that you haven’t used in the last year; those are all good candidates for the donation bin,” she says.
Take coffee mugs. These can overrun a kitchen cabinet in no time. Most are kept for sentimental reasons or for nostalgia’s sake, even when they are hardly used. Golightly’s rule of thumb for mugs is for each family member to have three, so a family of five will have only 15 mugs.
“Take a picture of the mugs that mean something to you, then put them in a box for donation.”
An organized life
Another key hack is to group similar things; keep utensils together, knives should be arranged neatly in a knife block, food containers in one spot. The old adage “everything has a place and there’s a place for everything” works best in the kitchen.
Getting started can seem like the biggest hurdle, but don’t think it is insurmountable. “Don’t be overwhelmed by the mess, just get started. Get a garbage bag and go through the kitchen – the pantry, the drawers and cabinets – and pick out stuff that is no longer useful or is just taking up space.”
Small appliances used every day stay on the kitchen counter for ease of use, but other ones can be kept out of sight. Coffee makers are a good example of small appliances that need to be on the counter, but clunky appliances such as a toaster oven and food processor are best put away until needed.
For families with young children, Golightly says to designate a kitchen drawer for lunch boxes. Arrange similar food containers in the pantry for a pleasing esthetic and to know where to find items when you need them.
“In my experience, most people are not disorganized, just overwhelmed by having too much stuff.”
Check out Golightly’s decluttering hacks and other tips for an organized life at go-simplified.com.
If the kitchen is the heart of the home, kitchen clutter may be considered the blockage that leads to heart disease. Taking the analogy further, sometimes the cure is all about exercise and good habits.
pro-tip
If you really want to live with less but just cannot let go, put a few of the “rarely used” pots and pans in a box in the basement and mark the date on the top. If you don’t need to retrieve them from the box in six months, take the box to a donation centre and don’t look back. Don’t get in your own way; there is freedom in less clutter.
KITCHEN ORGANIZATION TIPS
Quick steps from Megan Golightly to help you go through and declutter what you’re not using.
POTS AND PANS
1 2 3 4 5
Pull out all your pots and pans
Match lids with pots
Place a pot or pan on each burner. Notice how many extra you have
Ask yourself three questions (Do I like it? Do I use it? Would I buy it again if it broke?)
Donate the remaining pots and pans that don’t have a matching lid or are rarely used
UTENSILS
1 2 3 4 5
Take it all out of the drawer and place similar items together; I call this process putting things into ‘towns’
Toss out broken tools. Kitchen space is prime real estate.
Take a look at what you have versus what you use
If you have any gadgets that are rarely used and only do one specific job, it’s a good indicator that you don’t need them.
Put back only what you USE
But first,
coffee
by SALINA YARA HALABITrendy local coffee shops have a special place in our java-loving hearts. Not only do they serve delicious sips, but they also offer a relaxed yet hip environment where we connect with friends… or escape on our own. Recreating this coffee sanctuary in your kitchen can completely elevate your daily routine, and even create a new ritual that will add intention to your day. Forget the days of rushed coffee as you run out the door – this kitchen edit is all about that lingering café experience. So, it’s time to give some extra attention to that forgotten kitchen corner or cluttered countertop and create a fabulous coffee retreat you can enjoy every day.
When it comes to enhancing the coffee vibe in your kitchen, consider creating a dedicated area where you can enjoy a cup of coffee with friends or family. Use neutral colours such as white, cream, black or brown to add a coffee-approved foundation in the space, then add unexpected accessories such as an ornate cart to showcase your updated coffee bar. Place all the coffee extras on display — flavoured creamers, small bites, or even a martini shaker and spirit of choice for the espresso martini fans.
Tight on space? A countertop coffee experience can feel just as elevated with an update to your appliances. A beautiful pour-over coffee maker, a stylish espresso machine, or a classic French press will not only look good, but also have you deliciously sipping in your kitchen. Create a dedicated shelf or cabinet to store your coffee cups and small accessories such as a frother (a must!). And don’t forget about the beans. Whether it’s local roasts or your favourite blend, bring in flavours you love or try new beans to make a specialty crafted pour every time. Of course, teas and cocoa are also welcome. Add some coffee shop tunes and your kitchen is about to become a barista’s paradise.
