WHAT’S HAPPENING Hello, summer! The sunny season feels extra special this year, with news that enjoying this warmer weather with family and friends may be a reality. As I write this, Alberta is on track for lifting the COVID-19 restrictions that have been with us for over a year. There is definitely a sense of optimism in the air, and plenty of excitement, with the the return of the some of the fantastic outdoor festivals our city is known for, as well as the easing of capacity limits in venues. Now, let’s enjoy Edmonton and all the things we’ve missed – I’ll get you started with a list of fabulous events highlighted below! Back at its original home in Churchill Square, the largest outdoor food festival in Canada is set to fill downtown with the delicious aromas of local restaurants sharing their delicious dishes. Enjoy the treats and eats of 51 restaurants and food trucks from July 22- August 1. More tasty details at tasteofedm.ca
The Edmonton Folk Music Festival has been reimagined with their Taking it to the Streets concert series. 40+ street concerts will take place throughout Edmonton each weekend from July 16 to August 8. To apply to host a free concert for your neighbourhood (talent included!) visit edmontonfolkfest.org
After rescheduling, the immersive experience of the celebrated work by artist, Vincent Van Gogh, is set to open its doors at the Edmonton Expo Centre on July 6th. The imaginative exhibition features innovative techniques of multi-projection and immersive audio that are sure to inspire. Tickets at imagine-vangogh.com
On July 31-August 2, Heritage Festival is back in Hawerlak Park. This fantastic event features a collection of cultural groups that come together each year to share their history, song, dance, food and more! New for 2021: Visitors will need a Time-Entry Pass – they’re free and available via heritagefest.ca.
