Dear friends, For 22 years Walton Arts Center has been a special place in our community. Sitting amidst the eclectic vibrancy of Dickson Street, it’s a gathering place for families and friends and a cornerstone for tourism in our region. Last year alone, over 200,000 people visited the arts center! As we move into the new season, I am excited, not just for the diverse line-up of programming, but because we have officially launched our $20+ million campaign to expand and renovate this great facility.

A concept rendering of a new plaza connecting our expanded lobby to the Dickson streetscape.

During the coming years, you will likely begin to see changes around the WAC campus as we start construction on the administrative offices and the main lobby. This facility is a jewel on Dickson Street and this expansion project will continue that legacy. I encourage you to follow updates about the expansion on our website throughout the season. Inside the theater, arts and entertainment abound! From Jersey Boys and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s brand new production of The Wizard of Oz, to dance groups like the Trey McIntyre Project, music from the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and The Doobie Brothers, to Beauty and the Beast and Ron White, there is something for everyone. Bring a friend, bring a date, bring the family…make it a special night on Dickson Street! See you at Walton Arts Center. Enjoy the show!

“A jazz harpist of imposing talent” (The New York Times), Colombian-born Edmar Castañeda has turned the New York jazz scene on its ear, transforming the harp into a percussive lead instrument by producing cross-rhythms like a drummer and choral flourishes like a flamenco guitarist. Now in his mid-30s, he combines Colombian music, Latin jazz, and bebop with ease, strumming bass lines with his left hand while simultaneously plucking melodies with his right.

Enjoy a hilarious evening with a comedy legend! Jim Belushi, who starred in the ABC hit comedy “According to Jim” and is an alumnus of “Saturday Night Live” and Chicago’s famed Second City, will have you roaring with laughter with an improvised sketch comedy show featuring members of the Chicago Board of Comedy.

Vocalist Catherine Russell makes her WAC debut with her signature blend of jazz, blues, R&B, and soul in the intimate setting of Starr Theater. From the influence of her father, who played with Louis Armstrong in the ‘40s, she brings an emotional depth to swing-era classics, blues tunes, and jazz ballads.

Mature audiences only. * Supporting cast subject to availability Part of the Coca-Cola Night Out Series

The Improvised Shakespeare Company Wednesday, Apr. 23 | Tickets $10-25 Based on audience suggestion, the Company creates a fully improvised play in Elizabethan style. Ramsey Lewis & John Pizzarelli: Straighten Up & Fly Right - The Nat King Cole Tribute Friday, Apr. 25 | Tickets $26-52 Nat King Cole broke the pop barrier with his smoky, smooth vocals, stringing along a huge number of hits right after his first “Straighten Up And Fly Right” soared up the charts in 1943. As a singer, he was called “the best friend a song ever had,” but he was essentially a jazz performer at heart. Ramsey Lewis and John Pizzarelli have crafted a tribute to the titan of fifties vocal pop, including jazz numbers that have influenced their careers.
