BÉLA FLECK & ABIGAIL WASHBURN
Feb. 19, 2016, 8pm | Tickets $25-45 Banjoists Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn have mastered the deceptively intricate art of the duet. Their performances embrace a diversity that is almost unthinkable coming from just two banjos and one voice. She with the earthy sophistication of a postmodern, old-time singer-songwriter; he with the virtuosic, jazz-to-classical ingenuity of an iconic instrumentalist and composer with bluegrass roots; together, the married couple employs the relatively rare three-finger and clawhammer banjo duet to create an explosion of musical white heat that you won’t soon forget. It’s a one-ofa-kind pairing, with one-of-a-kind possibilities!
Stay tuned for more exciting concerts on the Popcorn Indiana American Music Series!

Mavis Staples & Nick Lowe
A Night with Janis Joplin
MAVIS STAPLES & NICK LOWE
A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN
For six decades, Mavis Staples has been the solid rock of American music. A Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy® Lifetime Achievement Award winner, she has carved a distinctive and unmistakable path in popular music. Nick Lowe made his mark in music as a producer (Elvis Costello, Graham Parker, The Pretenders) and legendary English singer-songwriter whose own compositions include “Cruel to Be Kind” and “What's So Funny About Peace, Love And Understanding.” He brings a wit and understated excellence to every performance that led The New York Times to describe his live shows as “elegant and nearly devastating.” It’s no surprise that after an impromptu performance at a show in 2011, the two became fast friends and decided to pair up. Be one of the first to see these two musical giants perform together (and separately) in a concert that’s guaranteed to make rock ‘n’ roll history!
Like a comet that burns far too brightly to last, Janis Joplin exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the queen of rock ‘n’ roll. The unmistakable voice, filled with raw emotion and tinged with Southern Comfort, made her a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock. Now, you’re invited to share an evening with the woman and her influences in the new Broadway musical, A Night with Janis Joplin.
Mar. 12, 2016, 8pm | Tickets $23-53
Mar. 17-18, 2016, 8pm | Tickets $30-70 2 shows!

CLASSIC ALBUMS LIVE PRESENTS THE BEATLES’ ABBEY ROAD
KEB’ MO’

His music is a living link to the seminal Delta blues that traveled up the Mississippi River and across the expanse of America. It blends the acoustic framework of blues with pop, R&B, rock, jazz and soul music, culminating in a purely postmodern expression of the artistic and cultural journey that has transformed the blues - and his own point of view - over time. Don’t miss the return of the threetime Grammy Award®-winner and visionary roots-music storyteller as he celebrates the release of his twelfth fulllength album BLUESAmericana, featuring some of the most poignant and joyfully melodic numbers he’s ever recorded.

CYRILLE AIMÉE
Since playing his first notes while still in his pre-teen years, Martino has been recognized as one of the most exciting and virtuosic guitarists in jazz. With a distinctive, fat sound and gut-wrenching performances, he represents the best not just in jazz, but in music at large. Martino and his organ trio look back to his early-sixties roots, but the group’s combustible improvisation transcends nostalgia. After suffering from a severe brain aneurysm in 1980 and losing nearly all dexterity, Martino made a remarkable recovery, returning to form on his instrument through an intensive study of his own early recordings. He has since re-emerged as a veteran presence on the jazz scene, playing his signature instrument as fiery and technically brilliant as ever.

Named “one of the most promising jazz singers of her generation” by The Wall Street Journal, Cyrille Aimée is a French-Dominican vocalist and actress who fell in love at an early age with the gypsy way of life, especially the foot-tapping, swinging sounds of their music. Her hybrid of influences has resulted in a sound that’s both fresh and enlivening, which is to say nothing of her voice – destined to enthrall audiences for decades to come. Winner of the Montreux Jazz Voice Competition and the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, Cyrille explores a range of musical styles, eras, continents and moods in her performances, with her unique musical vision: bass, drums, two guitars and a singular voice.

Born in Kyrgyzstan, Eldar Djangirov’s musical interest began at age 3. He was widely considered to be a child prodigy, appearing on Marian McPartland’s award-winning NPR show “Piano Jazz” when he was only 12 years old. Djangirov has been variously compared to Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson and Herbie Hancock, though the Grammy®-nominated artist’s own accolades are far-reaching. His performances display brilliancy, complexity and discipline, as he takes sparkling command of the piano, using a combination of approaches that create new horizons for music. Performing alongside longtime band mates Armando Gola (bass) and Ludwig Afonso (drums), Djangirov’s unparalleled virtuosity and thrilling compositions make this a performance not to be missed.
