Wrestlers claim eighth national title Buoyed by individual national titles from Byron Tate and John Helgerson and a national finals’ appearance from Bradley Banks, Wartburg won its eighth national title since 1996. Coach Jim Miller’s program also added seven All-American honors to its already large historical total. The 2010-11 team claimed the NWCA/ Cliff Keen Division III National Duals title, too.

Women’s track and field is runner-up indoors and outdoors Coach Marcus Newsom’s women’s program placed second at both the NCAA Division III indoor and outdoor meets. The Knights, winners of four NCAA team titles (two each indoors and outdoors), have finished in the top four in both meets the past four years. Nevada Morrison ’12 won the 400-meter dash at the national outdoor championships. The Knights won the 4x400-meter relay for the

fifth consecutive time outdoors and the third straight time indoors.

In addition, they set the NCAA Division III 4x400-meter record at the Drake Relays.

Women’s golfers place among top 15 After winning its sixth Iowa Conference title in the last seven years, Wartburg finished 13th at the 2011 national meet. Paige Klostermann ’12 and Kelsi Sawatzky ’13 placed among the top 30 individuals.

Women’s soccer earns NCAA berth Wartburg returned to NCAA Division III tournament play for the second time, reaching the second round at Loras College’s Rock Bowl in Dubuque in November. The Knights earned an at-large bid after finishing second in the Iowa Conference’s regular season and postseason tournament.

Wartburg athletes gain academic honors Wrestling standout Adam Weber ’11 became the eighth Wartburg student-athlete in eight years and 24th overall to gain an NCAA postgraduate scholarship. Wartburg also had two CoSida/Capital One collegiate division academic All-Americans. All told, 75 Wartburg student-athletes have earned academic All-American honors since 1970 – 34 since 2000.

Extraordinary facilities The $31 million, three-acre Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center (The W) elicited “wows” when it opened in 2007-08, becoming the crown jewel among the first-class facilities housing Knights’ athletic programs.

Levick Arena, a state-of-the-art showcase seating nearly 1,800 fans for basketball, volleyball, and wrestling.

Walker Wrestling Room, the envy of many NCAA Division I schools, and a magnificent home for the seven-time Division III champions.

Hoover Field House and Track, the indoor home of the powerhouse track and field teams and a practice and competition facility for tennis. It also handles practice dates for baseball and softball during bad weather.

Walston-Hoover Stadium, the host site of the 2005 NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships (won by the Wartburg women) and two NCAA Division III football playoff games, features a FieldTurf football playing surface and an eight-lane all-weather track.

Centennial Oaks Golf Course in Waverly, hosted the 2008 NCAA Division III women’s golf championships and is the home course for the Knights men’s and women’s golf programs.

The Waverly Soccer Complex and two newly renovated fields on campus accomodate the men’s and women’s soccer teams. The main on-campus field added lights in 2009.

Newly refurbished tennis courts north of Walston-Hoover Stadium provide outdoor facilities for the men’s and women’s tennis teams.
