LIMIT Every year, there comes a time when you have to push it to the limit to get a crop in or out. It’s a high pressure time when every minute counts. You can’t take shortcuts when it comes to safety. No matter what the rush, you can’t sacrifice good judgement when it comes to operating farm equipment. Nothing is that important. Be safe!

Bethany Anderson of Norseland earned the senior class rabbit showmanship award. She said the judge asks lots of questions, and she has to know not only a lot about her animal but about the other breeds as well. “It’s about how you present your animal, but it’s also about how your present yourself. After 14 years in 4H, this is the last fair as a 4H member for Anderson, who will be a sophomore at St. Scholastica in Duluth this year. She also showed market goats and swine. “It’s sad to say goodbye to 4H,” she said. (Richard Rohlfing photo)

In addition, such opponents say the potentially harmful could exacerbate allergies and increase cancer risk. environmental and medical impact of laboratory-built crops warrants concern. Foods containing GMOs are largely crops that are modified using the latest molecular biology techniques. In the laboratory, In 2000, a study published in the journal Nature found that polcertain traits, such as increased resistance to herbicides or im- len from a genetically modified corn crop called B.t. corn caused proved nutritional content, are enhanced. Such plants may become disease- and herbicide-resistant, thusly choking out the intended crops. Another area of concern is the health implications of introducing foreign genes into foods. The effect of such practices on the human body are largely unknown. Unexpected allergic reactions or even physical changes in the body may occur. Evidence as to the safety of GMOs is insufficient. Many European nations have backed away from growing crops containing GMOs. Things in North America aren't as cut and dry. Efforts are ongoing to have GMO ingredients listed on the labels of packaged foods produced in the United States, but no such labeling is presently required. That's disconcerting to some, as there is a high likelihood that many of the packaged foods sold in the U.S. contain some GMOs. The debate about foods containing GMOs figures to continue. Shoppers must determine whether they want to consume foods that contain genetically modified ingredients or they prefer natural alternatives. TF138414
