Craft Lab is an open-ended, creative space that invites kids to express their imagination in crafting and making. What better way to welcome spring than with your favorite magical fairies? For fans of the series Rainbow Magic, or for anyone who loves a tea party, we invite you to create a fairy craft, play games, and dance as only fairies can. Guests are welcome to come dressed as their favorite fairy from the rainbow. Light snacks will be served.

Disney Fan Trivia Fundraiser Saturday, February 2 | 2:00 p.m. For All Ages TICKETS $10

Team up with your friends and family to prove who is the biggest Disney fan! Visit the library’s website as the event draws near to see trivia categories. This event is for Disney fans of all ages. Attendees 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets may be purchased with cash in the library or online beginning January 2. Tickets are non-refundable. In-case of inclement weather, the trivia event will be held on February 16, at 1:00pm. This event is provided by our Teen Advisory Board (TAB). Proceeds benefit teen programs at the library.

Grown-up Egg Hunt

Saturday, April 13 | 7:30 p.m. & 8:30 p.m. For Ages 13+ TICKETS $10 in advance | $15 at the door

Don’t let kids have all the fun! Teens and adults are invited to bring a flashlight and go on an egg hunt at the library. Lucky egg hunters may win cash, chocolate, gift certificates to local businesses, and other great prizes. Cookies will be served while participants wait for the hunt to begin. In case of inclement weather, the hunt will take place inside the library (still via flashlight). The hunt doesn’t last long, so you will want to make sure to arrive on time! This event is a fundraiser for teen programs at the library. Tickets will be available at the library or online starting March 15. Tickets are non-refundable. This event is provided by our Teen Advisory Board (TAB). Proceeds benefit teen programs at the library.

Lessons of the Holocaust

Sunday, January 27 | 1:00 p.m. Join us this Holocaust Remembrance Day for a special presentation by educator Brad Wilkening of the Iowa Holocaust Council. Wilkening will examine how the Nazi party rose to power in Germany, share stories from survivors, and discuss the valuable lessons to be learned from one of the darkest times in human history.

You may have heard of Buxton, Iowa, the coal mining town established in 1900 where five thousand African Americans and Caucasians lived, worked, and attended school together. But do you know how and why the town was created? Author Rachelle Chase will share the fascinating events that created this unique community, its notable residents, and what made it disappear. Rachelle Chase is the author of Lost Buxton (2017) and Creating the Black Utopia of Buxton, Iowa (coming January 2019).

City of Waukee Stormwater Inspector Jenny Corkrean will teach you the basics and benefits of rainwater harvesting and the effects storm water has on the environment. Participants will learn how to prevent storm water runoff and how to collect and conserve water with rain barrels. Rain barrel selection, use, and maintenance will be discussed.
