WHITE POLE ROAD SUNDAY, JANUARY 7 - 1:00 p.m. Presented by Rod Stanley

In the early 1900s, Iowa roads were in terrible shape and at times impassable for weeks due to snow and mud. A modern road with white painted poles was built and touted as the quickest way accross Iowa. In 1931, sections of the White Pole Road officially became U.S. Highway 6.

ONE ROOM COUNTRY SCHOOLS IN DALLAS COUNTY SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 4 - 1:00 p.m.

One room schoolhouses, where teachers taught grades 1-8, were the core of Iowa's education system from the 1850s until the 1950s. At one time, there were 144 one room schoolhouses in Dallas Co.; today there are only 4 left.

IOWA'S MISBEHAVING WOMEN SUNDAY, MARCH 25 - 1:00 p.m.

It's been said that well-behaved women rarely make history. As it turns out, Iowa has plenty of women who made history by behaving in uncommon ways. Learn more about these heroic, amusing, imaginative and nervy individuals.

ALL AMERICAN GIRLS PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL LEAGUE SUNDAY, APRIL 8 - 1:00 p.m.

Presented by Richard Chapman President of AAGPBL

Richard Chapman, president of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League, will speak about his late mother, Hall of Fame catcher Dorothy "Mickey" Maguire Chapman and the league, which existed from 1943 to 1954.


HELPING HANDS: VALENTINE'S DAY CARDS JANUARY 2ND THROUGH FEBRUARY 12TH

Drop by the library to make a Valentine's Card for residents of an area senior living center . Help us make enough cards so that each resident receives a one-of-a-kind handmade card to show that their community loves them. All supplies will be provided.

BIRD WATCHING BASICS SUNDAY, JANUARY 14 - 1:00 p.m.

Are you looking for a new and exciting way to connect with nature? Come learn the basics to identifying birds. Dallas County Board naturalist Mike Havlik will guide you through field marks, behavior, and calls to help take the mystery out of backyard birds. We will also take a trip outdoors to look for live birds at the library as well.

YOGA& FRIDAY, JANUARY 19 - 10:00 a.m.

Take time to breath, move, stretch, and relax in this beginners' yoga class. This class is scheduled on the same day and time as our Snow Much Yoga Fun kids' event with parents' needs in mind! (However, any adult may attend.) Bring a yoga mat and water bottle. Registration is required and will open three weeks before the event.

No matter what you're planning for Valentine's Day this year, nothing says "I Love You" like delicious and decadent desserts. We've rounded up 3 sweet treats that will make your heart melt! Whether you are single or taken, enjoy ďż˝ these easy-to-make desserts with your sweetheart or gal pals this Valentine's Day. Samples will be served! CRAFT WORKSHOP: HEART-FELT NEEDLE FELTING SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 11 - 1:30 p.m.

Discover the pure MAGIC of needle-felting! In this beginner's class, we will make a sweet little penguin holding a heart. You won't believe how easy felting really is -- no sewing or patterns involved! No prior experience required. Registration is required and will open three weeks before the event.

A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 17 - 2:00 p.m.

Come learn the ins and outs of wildlife photography! Dallas county resident and national magazine editor Marlen Kemmet has worked for years photographing Central Iowa and several national parks. Get tips and techniques aimed at making you a better wildlife photographer. Afterwards, attendees are encouraged to practice their new skills on library grounds and around the Waukee area, for a chance to have their pictures featured on the library's Facebook page! NATIVE PLANTS SATURDAY, MARCH 3 - 2:00 p.m.

Do you want to know how to reduce the amount of work you put into your landscaping? Want plants that will come back year after year and perform well in your yard? Come to learn from horticulturist Derek McKay about native plants, cultivars of native plants, and why you should be planting them. Placement, light requirements, water requirements and care will be discussed.

BUTTERFLY GARDENING: PLANT. GROW. FLY. SUNDAY, MARCH 11 - 2:00 p.m.

Butterflies are not only beautiful, they are also a huge benefit to our environment! Join wildlife conservationist Jessie Lowry from the Blank Park Zoo as she shows you how to attract important pollinators-bees and butterflies-to your garden.

PROHIBITION IN IOWA WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21 - 10:00 a.m.

Prohibition was a period of time when it was illegal to manufacture, sell, or transport liquor in the United States. This included Iowa. So, why did Iowa farmers get involved in using their corn to make liquor? Linda Mccann, researcher and author of numerous books on Iowa history, will share this information and examples of prohibition activities in the Waukee area. She will also share some of the stories and comments from the children of Iowa moonshiners and bootleggers that she has spoken with.

CRAFT WORKSHOP: WOODLAND CRITTER NEEDLE FELTING SATURDAY, MARCH 24 - 1:30 p.m.

You won't believe what you can create in just a couple of hours! Join us for an intermediate class on needle-felting. We will show you the tips and tricks that take your felting to another level. By the end of class you will make an adorable fox. No patterns, no sewing, and no prior experience needed-- grab a felting tool, some gorgeous wool and... GO! GROWN-UP EGG HUNT

FRIDAY, MARCH 23 - 7:00 p.m.

Don’t let kids have all the fun! Teens and adults are invited to bring a flashlight and go on an egg hunt at the library. Lucky egg hunters may win cash, chocolate, gift certificates to local businesses, and other great prizes. Light refreshments will be served at 7:00, and the hunt will begin at sundown. In case of inclement weather, the hunt will take place inside the library (still via flashlight!). This event is for ages 13+ only for the safety of participants. This event is a fundraiser for teen programs at the library. Tickets will be available at the library or online starting March 1. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door, and they are non-refundable.

Join best-selling local author Sara J. Weis of Go Go Yoga for Kids: the Complete Guide of Using Yoga With Kids for a fun and engaging yoga class for 3-6 year olds. We will have fun celebrating the winter season with yoga poses, games, stories, and snowballs. Bring a beach towel or yoga mat. *There is an adult yoga class for adult care-givers paired at the same time as this event. Registration is required and will open three weeks before the event.

Hear a presentation about the new STEAM kits followed by the '.'.� y \ X)� opportunity to see each kit in action. Kits will be available for check-out the Monday after the event. Parents of children with long hair welcome attend with their child/children to learn the basics of how to style children's hair (ponytails, braids, etc.). Teen volunteers will read to the kids to keep them entertained while their hair is styled. Registration is required and will open three weeks before the event.

Young fans of rainbows and unicorns won't want to miss this celebration! Make uni­ corn crafts, hear a unicorn story, have a unicorn snack, and play unicorn games. Rec­ ommended for K-Sth graders. Registration is required and will open three weeks before the event.
