STYLE SECRET TASTE THE MEDITERRANEAN DELICIOUS BAKED GROUPER 2 tbsp. olive oil 1 onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic 1 tsp. oregano Salt & pepper

2 tomatoes, diced ½ c. black olives 4 grouper fillets ¼ c. feta cheese ¼ c. minced parsley

Heat oven to 425 degrees. Spray 13" x 19" baking dish with nonstick spray. Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, minced garlic and oregano and sauté for 2 minutes. Add tomatoes and black olives and bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Place grouper in prepared baking dish. Season both sides with salt and pepper. Spoon tomato mixture over fish. Bake 10 minutes or until fish flakes easily with a fork. Remove from oven and sprinkle with feta and parsley. Enjoy!

Eventually the ingredients, the temperature and the timing all come together to create delicious treats. My earliest success was butter cookies. To this day I remember how happy I was when the oven door opened and those gorgeous, light golden-colored cookies emerged. The aroma was second only to the taste. My baking ability is more advanced today, but those pale, melt-in-your-mouth morsels are still my “go to” favorites. I think my little pastry chefs are on track to making similar memories, and I’m going to stick around and share in their success.

To this day, a pale golden sunset reminds me of my carefree days out on the lake and my old truck. It was a “beater.” Beat up from pulling trailers, hauling hay and backing into loading docks. But for many in my senior class, that old, dented, cream-colored pickup was the coolest, and it transported us to some amazing times. Since those days, I’ve graduated to a nice new Silverado 4X4. It’s got nav and Bluetooth and shifts to four wheels on the fly. I’m still enjoying those golden sunsets, and I miss that old truck, but I have to admit I don’t miss having to carry jumper cables everywhere I go.

A THOUSAND SHADES OF GREY { PA I N T E D H A R B O R } My mom is an architect. Maybe that’s where I learned my appreciation for subtle colors. When I turned sixteen, my parents took me to Paris. On a shopping trip, I picked out a dress—a fluffy, pink confection fit for a fairy tale princess—and insisted we take a picture of me, in the dress, in front of the Eiffel Tower. They went along, ignoring the weather report. When the rain started falling, soaking me and my gown, I slumped to the steps and sat there, just staring. They thought I was crying, but I was actually mesmerized, enchanted by the kaleidoscope of grey in front of me—the pale limestone, the dark steel tower, the layered stormy sky. I guess I’m just my mother’s daughter, after all.

thought I would go for clay; getting my hands all covered in that ember grey ooze didn’t appeal to me. But there was something about crafting with my hands, taking that battleship-colored clump of earth and turning it into something special. I like the dull smell of the clay, the clean, grey color of it before it’s fired. The need for such meticulous movements, such detail, put me into a meditative zone. Now, many years later, my hands are not what they used to be. Not quite as steady, and they hurt. But I can’t tear myself away from my pottery. There’s something about that pure, relaxing smoky color, something about that smell. It takes me longer these days, but my work is just as precise as it was back in art class.

I tried to take up fishing when I got older, but really, nothing compares to sitting on the dock with a natural, handmade pole, your feet skimming the water, and a hat that’s way too big for your head.

From the time James was a toddler, Peter would take him along to watch him split wood, and to his workshop to teach him all about woodworking. PEACE AND HONEY No one understood why I wanted to marry Jason. He was a wheat farmer, and I was a city girl. No one thought I could handle the life, and they said I would be back for my city heels and power suits. But I love it here. There is something intensely peaceful when you’re standing in a field, surrounded by warm, honey-colored wheat that softly reflects the golden sun. My bucket list is made up of a lot of things that I did when I was younger. R O B E R T & D E B B I E PA U L S O N ARE ALL ABOUT STYLE Robert and Debbie Paulson are the owners of Floor to Ceiling Kitchen, Bath & Flooring of Elk Grove, CA, which produced this winning kitchen design. The clients were looking for a kitchen that would give them more storage and countertop space, and a more open design that would be great for entertaining and hosting large family dinners. They were also interested in upgrading to professional-style appliances. The winning design gave them plenty of seating space and room to cook together. Waypoint® was able to provide the value the clients were looking for, while not sacrificing the quality of the product. After reviewing the options, the clients fell in love with the Painted Stone finish, and door style 610 was a perfect fit for their dream kitchen. The design included an entire wall of storage and countertop space, a combination of cabinets and shelves—and even modified the space around the refrigerator to hold more storage options. The clients chose a beautiful new range-top gas stove, double ovens and a modern double-door refrigerator. The design lined all the walls with Waypoint® cabinets and included a contemporary tile backsplash that perfectly matched the clients’ chosen colors. The clients had an impending completion date, but that wasn’t a problem for Waypoint®, which was able to provide them with a very quick lead time. CRAIG J. COUTURE Craig J. Couture, of Cypress Design Co. in East Providence, RI, is our featured winner for bathrooms. His clients were fed up with their outdated bathroom and were looking for a spa-like space that would be functional for their everyday lives. Waypoint Living Spaces® was an easy choice for Craig and his clients. The clients were looking for a white-and-grey color palette to coordinate with their master bedroom color scheme. She redesigned her client’s closet into a beautiful, walk-in space filled with functional storage and custom cabinets. Her client was in need of a closet space with lots of shoe storage, shelves for folded clothes and an area for her jewelry. She also wanted it to have a place where she could sit down and get ready in the morning.

Heat 4 cups sugar with 6 cups of water in a medium saucepan until itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s dissolved to make a syrup. Set this in the fridge to cool. Pour the fresh-squeezed lemon juice into a large pitcher. Pour in 3/4 of the syrup, then top off the pitcher with ice. Pour in water, stir it around, then give it a taste. Add more syrup if it needs sweetness or more water if it needs dilution. Serve immediately! Add 2 cups raspberries, blueberries, blackberries or sliced strawberries to the lemonade for different flavors. Or make hard lemonade by adding 2 cups light rum or tequila. (Adults only!)

Hair is weakest when thoroughly soaked and is therefore easier to cut. If there is no time for a shower, then rinse your face with warm water and keep it wet for a couple of minutes. Next, youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll need a good-quality, nonfoaming shave cream and a shaving brush. Apply the shave cream using the brush in a circular motion. Use a quality razor with a fresh blade (seven shaves or fewer) and rinse the blade frequently. Shave in the direction of your beard and let the razor do the work. Now comes the good part. Rinse with cool water, apply a little witch hazel, pat dry and finish with a high-quality aftershave lotion.

CO LO R YOUR WORLD Finding a color palette for your new living space is as easy as opening your eyes. Look around. See colors that appeal to you. Choose only colors you are drawn to. Let the seasonal fall colors inspire you: soft golden orange, deep brown, leaves and sky. Or maybe you’re inspired by colors that are natural but vibrant—like a basket of artichokes at a farmers’ market. Or get inspired by a neutral room setting with spots of color from your magazine. Look everywhere—and if you really get stuck, check your closet. There’s likely a favorite sweater, dress or piece of clothing that will inspire a color palette that’s exactly what you had in mind.

PICKING YOUR PAINT COLOR Picking the right paint color for your living space can seem daunting. Here are some guidelines to help you pick the best color for your space and create the feeling you’re looking to achieve. FIND INSPIRATION. Don’t pick your color for the room first. You need to draw inspiration from the pieces that will be in that room, such as a piece of furniture, a rug or a favorite piece of artwork.

ADDING MORE COLOR. Once you have your basic paint picked out, you might decide the room is not colorful enough for you. An easy way to add more color is to play up monochromatic color schemes by adding an accent color that is a cooler or warmer version of the initial color. Using a color wheel will make this much easier. Another technique using a color wheel is picking a complementary color—colors that are across from each other create a very intense and vibrant feeling when used together.

DON’T OVER-SATURATE. Keep a balance with a neutral base palette and vibrant, colorful accents. Typically, you want to keep your paint mainly neutral and accent with colorful furniture and accessories, or maybe an accent wall. However, if you really want brightly colored walls, make sure the furniture and accessories in the room are neutral colors to balance it out.

USE TESTERS. Paint large swatches of different colors on a wall before making your final decision on color and sheen. Leave them for up to a week so you can experience them at different times of day and with different lighting.
