The Course Course Characteristics Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the uent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.

Position of Starting Stalls Straight Course-on stands side rail. Round Course-on inside rail except 1m 3f & 1m 4f-on outside rail.

WHO TO WATCH Jon Lees, Ladbrokes Racing PR Manager, shares his thoughts on today’s racing 12.45 Ladbrokes Watch Racing Online For Free Maiden Auction Stakes Keep Right On ran a satisfactory debut to finish second in a Newmarket maiden behind Apollo One, who has since gone on to finish third in the Group 3 Solario Stakes. With that form boost he can be expected to take a step forward from that first effort but even without improving he could be good enough on this step up to a mile, if he handles this softer surface. 1.15 Chichester City Selling Stakes A drop in class presents Bealach with an ideal opportunity to get off the mark. He was well beaten at Sandown earlier this month but that race was over 1m6f and he has run much better in races at around this distance. He has had a wind op ahead of this race which trainer Eve Johnson Houghton has won three times in the last six years. 1.50 Ladbrokes Best Odds Guaranteed Fillies’ Handicap Alemagna has been running consistently without winning so far this season but a return to the track and trip over which she recorded her only victory might end the sequence. She finished second to a progressive filly in a higher grade last time over 1m6f and this will be her first start over 1m4f since she won this prize 12 months ago. 2.25 Ladbrokes Giving Extra Places Every Day Handicap One of only two three-year-olds in the field, Impressor has a chance to rediscover the kind of form that earned him starts at Group level last year. After getting off the mark at Salisbury he contested the Mill Reef Stakes and then the Horris Hill, in which he finished third behind Kenzai Warrior on heavy ground. He has shown nothing like that form in two starts this term, following wind surgery, but got bumped first time out and was on the wrong side of the track last time. 3.00 Ladbrokes Get Your Daily Odds Boost Handicap Rosa Gold and her apprentice rider Stefano Cherchi rattled off a hat-trick together during June and July. They registered their latest success at Chepstow where the filly suffered plenty of interference yet still emerged a comfortable two lengths winner. She has been put up another 10lb but refreshed from a six week break the sequence may not be at an end yet. 4

3.35 Ladbrokes Supreme Stakes Since his victory in the Balmoral Handicap on Champions Day last year, Escobar has had his sights raised and not been disgraced despite failing to win. After wind surgery he ran a career best at the Qatar Goodwood Festival to finish third behind Space Blues in the Lennox Stakes. He suffered interference that day and this contest over the same course and distance represents his best chance to make a breakthrough at Group level. 4.10 Ladbrokes Supporting ‘Children With Cancer UK’ Novice Stakes Marcus Tregoning looks to have found what should be a straightforward opportunity for Modmin to open his account at the third attempt. The colt returned from a year off to chase home the 89-rated Jumaira Bay at Chepstow 15 days ago and a reproduction of that run should be more than enough in this company. 4.45 Gay Kindersley Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap (Div 1) Storminin lines up with an unconvincing record of two wins from 39 starts but the handicapper has given him a chance to open his account for the year here. He is 9lb lower than when he registered his last victory at Leicester last year and has the assistance of one of the more experienced amateurs in Kieren Buckley. 5.20 Gay Kindersley Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap (Div 2) Luna Magic has won three times under Brodie Hampson and the same partnership could be hard to beat again here. Heavy ground hindered further progress but the pair finished third at Southwell on their only start this year, back in March, and the return to a turf surface should help the mare get back into the winners’ circle.

Race Summary SAMMY SUNSHINE proved a little disappointing on debut at Chepstow when only beating one home earlier this month, but the Sea The Moon filly is bred for longer trips and should appreciate this additional yardage with that last experience under her belt. This Ones For Fred caught the eye when second at Salisbury nine days ago and could take a step forward, while similar sentiments apply to Keep Right On, who just found one too hot at Newmarket recently.

Race Summary SALAMANCA SCHOOL rounded out a promising juvenile campaign with victory in a heavy-ground Nottingham maiden, and he began 2020 on a mark of 79. That proved beyond him, though, and a gelding operation didn't seem to work the oracle ahead of his latest appearance, but the drop into a seller just might help boost his confidence. Race Summary ICE SPRITE has progressed well since being switched to handicaps, winning both her starts in this company at Newmarket and Windsor, and William Haggas' filly is capable of taking another step forward despite a 6lb rise from the assessor. Race Summary CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD had only the winner in front of him in his group of runners when finishing fifth in the Stewards' Cup over course and distance last time and Mick Channon's four-year-old, who has already scored twice this season, has a great chance here off the same mark. Brian The Snail was third in that contest but has since failed to land a blow in the Great St Wilfrid, which tempers enthusiasm, while Typhoon Ten was an encouraging fifth in that Ripon feature and was a winner at Windsor before that. Course-and-distance scorers Alaadel and Atalanta's Boy are others to consider.

Race Summary NATIVE TRIBE clearly benefited from a gelding operation judging by his secondplaced finish at Sandown last time, and the unexposed son of Farhh merits the utmost respect off the same mark. Fiji only found one too good on his handicap debut at Newcastle and he could prove to be the main threat to the selection. That said, if the ground is very testing, It's Good To Laugh could go well having already shown plenty of ability on a soft surface.

Race Summary D'BAI hasn't done a great deal wrong in four starts so far this year, three times running well behind top-class stablemate Space Blues and winning a conditions event at Haydock last month. He drops in class after a fine effort in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes at the Glorious meeting and rates the one to beat. Escobar finished three places in front of the selection in the Lennox but has disappointed at York since, so Snazzy Jazzy, Happy Power and Cloak Of Spirits look to be the main dangers. Clive Cox's charge will love conditions and could be the one for the forecast.

RACE SEVEN

MODMIN is likely to go off a warm order, having taken a step in the right direction when runner-up over 7f at Chepstow. Not only did that performance demonstrate his ability to handle testing terrain, the manner in which he kept on in the closing stages strongly hinted a mile would be within his range. Amanda Perrett appears to have a few live chances. Her Suns Up Guns Up should be all the wiser for the experience gained on debut at Kempton, while stablemate Rovera is worth a market check first time out.

Today’s Amateur Jockeys' Handicap Stakes is run in memory of Gay Kindersley A former champion amateur jump jockey who later turned to training, Gay was one of the most engaging figures on the racecourse. A natural raconteur born with an easy charm, Gay particularly enjoyed his long association with The Amateur Jockeys Association, making lifelong friends wherever he went. He broke his back twice during his career but continued to ride against doctor’s orders and his last winning ride was in Belgium in 1969. After retiring as an amateur jockey, Gay became an established trainer in Berkshire. His lifelong ambition was to win a Grand National and he came agonisingly close to achieving this when his part-owned Carrickbeg, ridden by his dear friend Lord Oaksey, was caught by Ayala in the final strides of the race in 1963. On retiring from training in 1985, Gay played a full and highly valued role as President of the Amateur Jockeys Association. He will always be remembered with great fondness by all of his many friends for his wonderful sense of humour and utmost humility.

2019 WINNER: BROTHER IN ARMS (IRE) 5 9 4 Miss Sarah Bowen 20-1 (Tony Carroll) 8 ran STEWARDS NOTED: PURBECK HILLS:Following its run on 11/8/2020 it was reported that the horse was denied a clear run.

Race Summary MOUNTAIN RESCUE and Becky Smith combined to bring the winning spree of Burguillos to an end at Salisbury, and the handicapper may have underestimated the merit of that performance by handing Marjorie Fife's eight-year-old just a 5lb rise. He can account for Triple Nickle, who has been in excellent form this campaign and may also remain well-treated. Uther Pendragon's return to form at Bath coincided with him encountering easier conditions and he completes the shortlist.

Race Summary BEAU GESTE was denied a hat-trick when third over 1m at Lingfield last time but this longer trip could suit Tony Carroll's gelding, given his preceding victories came over the extended 1m1f at Wolverhampton. Soft-ground winner Luna Magic is worth a market check now returning from a break and there could also be big runs on the cards from the consistent Janus and Roller, the latter of whom took a step in the right direction when fourth at Wolverhampton last time.
