JUNE EVENING RACING Welcome to the third June Evening Racing fixture. The final meeting ahead of the Qatar Goodwood Festival at the end of July. We have seven highly competitive races to enjoy this evening, commencing with a seven-furlong handicap restricted to apprentice riders. It provides an opportunity for jockeys progressing towards the 50-winner career milestone to experience the challenging undulations of the Goodwood course. The countdown is very much on to the mid-summer highlight of the British sporting and social calendar. Five days of world-class racing at Glorious Goodwood gets underway from Tuesday 27 July to Saturday 31 July. The Government’s roadmap has moved; however, we are confident of welcoming racegoers back in a full capacity. I am very much looking forward to seeing Stradivarius and Battaash line up for a history-making bid in their respective races. A potential Duel on the Downs will hopefully materialise between leading older miler Palace Pier and tough three-year-old Poetic Flare for Wednesday’s showpiece, the Qatar Sussex Stakes. It promises to be a fabulous week and I do hope you can join us, meanwhile have a great time at the racecourse this evening.

The Course Course Characteristics Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.
Position of Starting Stalls Straight Course-on stands side rail. Round Course-on inside rail except 1m 3f & 1m 4f-on outside rail.

2020:MEETING ABANDONED
STEWARDS NOTED: MIQUELON:Following its run on 3/6/2021 it was reported that the horse lost both its front shoes.
Race Summary There should be plenty of pace on offer in this apprentice contest and that could allow things to set up nicely for SPIRIT WARNING, who was probably a touch unlucky when narrowly denied at this course last time, meeting traffic at a crucial stage. He can take advantage of a mark which is still 19lb below his last winning one. Cold Stare and Flaming Spear will also be suited by a truly-run race and can fight it out for minor honours.
Danger: Cold Stare
Win: Spirit Warning

Experience may prove critical in this maiden event, with the Richard Hannon-trained RIVER PRIDE setting the standard on her most recent second at Doncaster and looking capable of going one better on her first start against the boys. Fozzie Bear (declared to run at Lingfield yesterday) comes from a stable whose newcomers often improve plenty for the experience, so he is offered plenty of respect on account of finishing so close on his Lingfield debut. Debutant Bell Shot is bred to be above-average and could play a major role.

STEWARDS NOTED: SET POINT:Following its run on 4/6/2021 it was reported that the horse was hampered close to the line.
Race Summary RUSHMORE posted a solid placed effort over 1m2f here in May and found another gear when tacking this course and distance two weeks ago. STEWARDS NOTED: SOVEREIGN DUKE:Following its run on 21/11/2020 it was reported that the horse made a bad mistake early on.
Race Summary Potenza has been in fine form at a lower level and should run well off a nice weight here, while Whitehaven also warrants plenty of respect returning to action after rattling off three wins in the month of October last year. However, the one they all have to beat is the hat-trick seeking FLYIN' SOLO. David Menuisier's charge has impressively notched a Newbury (1m2f)/York (1m4f) double and a further 9lb hike in the ratings probably won't be enough to anchor him.

Race Summary FOUR ADAAY has been a model of consistency this season, winning three of her five starts including here last month, and Rod Millman's filly is capable of handling a 6lb rise for that recent success. A Pint Of Bear made a winning start to life on turf at Catterick on his latest outing when encountering soft ground so the forecast rain won't faze him, while Risk Of Thunder's juvenile form would give her every chance of going close.

2020:NO CORRESPONDING RACE LAST YEAR
Race Summary Coul Kat arrives having won on his latest outing at Sandown on soft ground so the forecast rain won't inconvenience him as he attempts to back that performance up off a 4lb higher mark. Marsabit has run with credit on both his starts at the course this season and he remains on the same rating as his recent third. The vote, though, goes to ICONIC QUEEN as she boasts some decent form from last season, including when fifth to Oaks runner-up Mystery Angel at Newmarket, and better is expected of her this campaign.
