Newbury - Dubai Duty Free International Weekend - Friday 18th September

Page 1

Welcome to the first day of Dubai Duty Free International Weekend, and once again we hope you can enjoy all the action from home and that it won’t be too long before we are able to welcome you back here at Newbury Racecourse. This weekend marks two very important anniversaries of our sponsors and we are sorry we cannot host them and their guests in the usual way. Firstly, this year marks the 25th anniversary of Newbury’s association with Dubai Duty Free which first began back in 1996 when they sponsored the Fred Darling Stakes at the Spring Meeting and subsequently expanded their involvement to include sponsorship of the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes in 1997 and supporting card. Sadly, we lost the April meeting due to COVID, but we are very grateful for their support over the last 25 years and look forward to seeing them over here in 2021. Today also marks the 40th running of the Haynes Hanson & Clark Conditions Stakes for two-year-olds over a mile. The sponsorship marks a feat that only six other current serving sponsors can lay claim to in British Racing which is quite a remarkable achievement. Our sincerest thanks and gratitude must go to all the Haynes Hanson & Clark team for their continued support of this race over the years and of Newbury Racecourse. We are delighted to have eight races on the card today, always a fascinating meeting which has been won by some top-class horses in the past, and as is often the case at Newbury, there is a good chance we may see an equine star of the future in action. Thanks once again to all of sponsors today, including Dubai Duty Free, Haynes, Hanson & Clark and British EBF for their generous support and to all the owners with runners. We hope to see many of you here at Newbury over the next two days. Julian Thick Chief Executive

Haajoos made a promising start at Kempton and seems sure to improve also. RACE 4

Race Summary: Having made a successful start to nurseries at Windsor, GENUFLEX still looked in good order when only third at Sandown 26 days ago, not getting going soon enough. He’s persevered with at this trip but the more galloping track should place the emphasis sufficiently on stamina, so he’s fancied to get back to winning ways at the likely expense of last-time-out winner Onaraggatip and Richard Hannon’s Rhythm.
