My goodness! What an eventful September I have had!

Website www.webexpressguide.com www.directorycostadelsol.com www.directorymarbella.com www.wxpg.com www.directorygibraltar.com

It started on a very sad note when my mother passed on, she was in her 90s and not unexpected, all the same we all have just one mother and the loss is very painful.

On a happier note, my eldest daughter Isabelle got married in New York and to see her face gleaming with happiness went a long way towards lightening my sorrow. It does go to show you though; life goes on in a continuous cycle from which nobody can escape. I am now back to catch up with the work undone and to welcome our newly found Russian readers.

¡Dios mío! ¡Qué memorable septiembre he tenido!

Bombona Handling Charges? No Way!

Changing the hour

As I always do, I went to the petrol station to get a butane gas bottle for the cooker and I happened to notice an extra charge of 50 cents for “handling”. With banks and all sundries looking for feeble excuses to make charges I took exception to this, the petrol station is an agent and gets paid for “handling” the bottles so I refused to pay it or leave it. They cancelled the charge.

Spain is considering changing the hour to GMT to be in line with UK, Eire and Portugal. The question is, what purpose will it serve? They will still want to go to lunch between 2 pm and 5 pm when everyone else closes for the day; they will still want to have their summer hours, banks will still have their “local” as well as national holidays and weekends off and people will still have their breakfast break on their company’s peak time. So what would be the purpose of the change? I’d like to know. www.webexpressguide.com

Australia has been ranked the world’s happiest nation among developed economies for the third year running. International Leadership Consultancy The world’s top 10 happiest nations are: 1. Australia 2. Sweden 3. Canada 4. Norway 5. Switzerland 6. United States 7. Denmark 8. The Netherlands 9. Iceland 10. Now in a continued bid to get its cool back with the kids, the internet veteran has seized upon Tumblr, the fashionable social blogging site for $1.1bn. The Wall Street Journal

Around 50 per cent of all whiplash claims arising from car crashes are fraudulent, insurance industry experts have told MPs. The figure could even be as high as 60 per cent, as whiplash injuries are difficult to diagnose and the symptoms too easy to fake. If the estimations are correct, fraudulent claims make up half of the 550,000 whiplash cases paid out on each year, and cost the industry £1 billion annually. The Guardian Private-school students are finding it harder to win a place at Cambridge. Just over a third of students admitted to the university last year were independently educated – the lowest proportion since the 1980s; 7% of children are educated privately. The Times Britain has 509,000 millionaire households, more than any other country in Europe and an increase of almost a quarter on last year. Only America, Japan and China have more. Life for the super rich, not mere millionaires, has got better still. Britain has just over 1,000 ultra high net-worth households — those with more than $100 million (£66 million) in private financial wealth, not including property. The Times To get ahead in business, deepen your voice. A study of nearly 800 male CEOs in the US has discovered that those with the deepest voices earned more on average that the ones with reedier tones. They also tended to head up bigger firms. TRAVEL & TOURISM

MICE (events) in Marbella & Costa del Sol Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events. Marbella, the Costa del Sol and Andalucia as a whole have become one of the most popular destinations for organised corporate group events from all parts of the world, not just Europe but the U.S.A., Russia and China too. Of course the Mediterranean climate is one of the reasons for this popularity, but that is not the only reason, it is the incredible variety of topography, locations and available activities that make the difference. In effect you can elect almost anything you can think of as the theme for your corporate event. Gone are the days when the beach, the sea and the sun was all you had. From city and pueblo activities, you can move on to the seaside, countryside, mountains, hills, rivers and they are all easily accessible now that the infrastructure has moved on with the times to include good accommodation, restaurants and hospitals. One cannot even begin to describe the number of activity events that are available or can be organised along with conferences or meetings. Perhaps it is simpler to name just a few classifications such as adventure, culture, gastronomy and even other more unusual types. What do wine tasting, beach games, canyon exploring, sailing regattas, boat parties, air ballooning or tapa tours come under? All of this sounds very nice but what matters most is that the event achieves its objective and is successful, that’s why it becomes essential to seek the assistance of a local organiser who will ensure that the whole trip and event is organised according to the set plan which includes transport, accommodation, entertainment and all activities. One such organiser is The Experience Box, your long established event partner on the Costa del Sol, see their website www.experienceboxspain.com/ www.webexpressguide.com

Farmacia Puerto Duquesa New Chemist Shop opens at Puerto de la Duquesa The “Farmacia” is well located right in front of a free car park in an area both pleasant and easily accessible. It is well equipped, modern and neat with a distinct advantage over other chemists: a private consultation room where one can comfortably ask advice on any embarrassing questions in strict privacy and confidence.

You may all be pleasantly surprised to hear that a new chemist shop is now opening at the Puerto de la Duquesa from early November. With just one chemist in Sabinillas and a small one in Manilva, there was a real need for another to serve a population in excess of 15,000 people plus visitors. Getting a pharmaceutical licence in Spain is not an easy task; with an excess of more than 4,000 applications only 300 licences were granted all over Spain. Manuel Valdayo Boza obtained his licence because of his formal education and experience in the UK for several years followed by 20 years in Gibraltar. Because of his experience Valdayo can offer, not just a service in English, but he is well acquainted with British customs, products and the NHS, which means that he can be a real help to all British nationals that find themselves in a quandary with the Spanish system.

In addition to Valdayo, there will be another pharmacist and an assistant, which means that “Farmacia” will be open 8 hours a day and Saturday mornings with a 24hrs rota agreed with the other chemists in the area. In addition to prescriptions over the counter and other products that are normally sold by other chemists, Farmacia Puerto Duquesa has the distinct advantage of being able to supply any of the familiar British products that are not normally found elsewhere, unless you go to Gibraltar. Of course they can always get anything that may not be readily available. So the next time your baby starts teething you know where to get your Calpol or your Nurofen if you prefer something more familiar to deal with your headache. Of course the service of a chemist shop is not complete without a range of accessories such as sun filter creams or lotions, quality sun glasses and a range of beauty products and perfumery. A most welcome addition to services available in the area www.webexpressguide.com

For the first time in 20 years I have had a good excuse to get away for more than a week at the time. My daughter got married in...New York!

York “not as a touristâ€? and I loved it. Sharing a large 5 bedroom log cabin with other New Yorkers was our first most enjoyable weekend experience. It was just one hour away from the centre, in the middle of a wood inhabited by bears and deer. We looked forward to the evening meals when we all got together in the dining room sharing stories, jokes and playing games. My daughter and her fiancĂŠe live in an apartment on Long Beach with a view to the ocean on one side and the New York City skyline on the other. I know it sounds privileged but not all homes are apartments and the houses are quite simply very attractive and all different from each other. I have seen a few I would have liked to live in. You do not have to be in the city centre to find your shops, restaurants and anything you need. Everywhere you go, you are spoilt for choice. I just wanted a bagel for breakfast the question was which of the different 20 or so types did I want and filled with which of the 50 or so different fillings available. All freshly made for that day, I dare say. Decisions, decisions no matter where you go, even if you just want to buy a chewing gum. Yes, sure there are locations I was told one should not go to, you hear daily on the news of someone shooting someone, but that is all part of the fast way of life. Banks are open every day from early morning until 10 pm and they also open on Sundays. I really liked the lifestyle, although www.webexpressguide.com

there is little help if you do not have a health insurance when you are ill. If I was younger I would seriously consider finding a way to live there. But the main reason for my visit on this occasion, having been there before on business, was my daughter’s civil marriage to David; she is now Mrs Isabelle Bernstein. I shall never forget the gleam of happiness on her face. I like David and I liked all the members of his family whom I met as well as some

friends. The ceremonial wedding is to take place next November and I had the privilege to help my daughter choose her wedding dress at the world renowned Kleinfeld store where you start looking at dresses from $5K upwards. IN MY OPINION

Is Reiki Nonsense? Reiki is referred to as a method of “energy healing” By Chevalier de Fleury

Reiki is based on the concept that the body is surrounded by an invisible energy field not measurable scientifically and practitioners claim to help healing by strengthening or “balancing” this energy or force which is alleged to support life. The concept originates from the Far East and is known as ‘ki’ in Japan or ‘chi’ in China. The practitioner does not actually touch the fully clothed patient, his palms are placed lightly just above the body in different positions until he feels that the energy flow has passed through. A session can be between 30 and 90 minutes.

broken bones, headache, colds, flu, insomnia, impotence, poor memory and so on.

Reiki practice can be traced back to the the spiritual teachings of Mikao Usui in Japan in the 20th century, therefore it would seem that it is not an ancient remedy from the Orient.

Scepticism starts with the fact that, to become a practitioner, all one needs is a 1 or 2 days initiation from a Reiki Master to become “attuned” to the force. There are no licensing or set professional standards to follow and to become a Master is said to take years.

It is said that Reiki is gentle but powerful and it aids to heal every known malaise and injury including multiple sclerosis, heart disease, cancer, skin problems, cuts, bruises,

After comprehensive surveying studies at Exeter’s University it was concluded in 2008 that there is insufficient evidence to support the claim that Reiki is a treatment for any

IN MY OPINION

condition. As far as religion is concerned, the U.S.A. Conference of Catholic Bishops in 2009 concluded that “Reiki therapy finds no support either in the findings of natural science or in Christian belief ” and urged Catholic health-care facilities and clergy not to promote or support it. In the mid1990sc the Journal of the American Medical Association called the study a “parlour game”. The British Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has objected to Reiki claims on three separate known occasions on the ground that the claims made are unsubstantiated. Although Reiki has no proven health benefit further investigation ought to be made, meanwhile the ultimate question arises: Does it work? The answer is “Yes” it works just like any other cure through the power of suggestion and mental conditioning which can bring about physiological changes in the believer, but has no effect whatsoever on the sceptic. The serious aspect of it all is that although the practice in itself is harmless, it can be dangerous to a believer who might feel better through suggestion and bypass going to a doctor or hospital until too late. I mean can you really cure cancer or diabetes just by passing hands over someone’s body? Take for instance the tragic example of Debra Harrison, a diabetic and co-founder of a type of energy healing called ‘Consegrity’ who was mortally affected by her own medicine. What makes Cocomo such a successful restaurant?

COCOMO Cocomo Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge Bar first opened its doors in 2010, behind the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Estepona.

One could say it’s the location or even the decked terrace, fountains, mosaics and contemporary, neat style decor that make this an attractive restaurant. Yet the style has been emulated by other restaurants but they certainly cannot claim the same level of popularity with their diners.

“So what is this great secret that makes your diners recommend you so highly?” I asked The answer answer was quick and to the point: “We do exactly what’s written on the tin! It’s all about the customer, for the customer!” The common denominator is value for money; the environment, the style, the high quality food and attentive service are offered at unexpectedly competitive prices and, what’s more important, the choice of food is all yours.

18

The cuisine is classic with an added surprising twist that makes it different and absolutely delicious. The Chef dedicates a lot of time in

www.webexpressguide.com

researching for ingredients, which have to be of the best and freshest quality. For instance his beef now comes from Galicia because of its excellent quality; he applies the same effort with every single product. His object is to ensure that his clients benefit from the best restaurant experience possible, even to the extent that that if he or any waiter notice that a diner seems unhappy with his choice of dish, it will be replaced at no extra cost.

Cocomo is now recognised as a premier destination, recommended by most of the hotels and by all the patrons because they know it is safe to do so. This is why it is essential to book and make sure you have a table. They are already fully booked for Xmas lunch and New Years Dinner. One of their ideas is to organise a typically “English High Tea” with the traditional cucumber sandwiches and scones. To do so, they need a group of 20/30 people just as they already do for some groups of ladies for lunch. If you decide to visit Cocomo, please do make sure you book in advance, they will always try and accommodate you, but it is often impossible with a full house.

Venta La Raspita A country style restaurant with a major difference

Last month Gaby and Antonio could not wait to tell us about the move to their new location on the Manilva Road. We have all seen that La Raspita was one of the busiest restaurant on the Paseo , the problem was parking anywhere near it; now they have their own parking lot and much larger and cosier premises. As we enter the winter season, La Raspita Sierra menu changes to a tasty country style cuisine from Cordoba with an inclination towards game food. Antonio says it is important to maintain a good balance between good food – good service and good prices. He certainly has worked it out well because all dishes, no matter what are at €7.95 (or €3.95 for ½ portions). The only exception is lamb which is just a shade more.

20

The classic fire place, the brick charcoal grill, the super view and the decor create a warm and most welcoming ambience backed by the fact that Gaby and Antonio cannot do enough to please their clients, starting with the little appetisers that come to your table while waiting for your order and finishing with the invitation drink at the end of your meal. Even the bread is freshly prepared and served warm.

www.webexpressguide.com

Apart from the menu, remember to ask what else may be available there are always the extras depending on what may be available fresh at the market on the day. If all this were not enough, live musical entertainment is provided every Saturday evening. It is of no surprise that already the restaurant is attracting diners every day and night, it is also becoming very popular for Sunday lunch, when friends or families can gather for a good meal at an affordable price and within a short distance from the main carretera.

La Casita

A brief Interview with Gaby, the owner “Some restaurants complain that the summer has not been as good as previous years, how was it for you?” I asked Gaby, the owner. “It’s been better than any previous year because we had more clients, since 2006, this has been the best year ever. We even had to increase the seating capacity. Clients came from all parts of Spain as well as different parts of the world.” What do you attribute this performance to? Of course we have a fixed clientele that comes to us every summer; however I think that a lot has to do with the fact that we are a family restaurant, where people can feel at home, this is why we call it “La Casita”. Also the menu and the good friendly service we offer play an important part to our success. Meat, fish, pasta, hamburgers, bocadillos and anything you might fancy is all available and, what is most important, at sufficiently reasonable prices. Don’t you think that the greater number of clients is partly due to the fact that you have started to advertise with Web Express Guide? “Oh yes, I am sure that more people became aware of us, but the fact that they all walked away happy with the three most important ingredients, made sure they came back and told their friends. That is good food, good service and reasonable prices.

international menu intended to please all tastes. And, if it’s not on the menu, just ask. We are looking to amplify the menu in the new year with more Spanish traditional dishes. What makes your restaurant such a good family restaurant? In addition to the service and everything I said, I believe it is the location. We are right opposite the children park and the pedestrian only walk where children are quite safe from traffic. It is an ideal location for birthday parties, baptisms, communions. What’s with all the football flags behind the bar? Well, being an Italian who lived in Argentina for many years, football is in the blood and I am proud of it. You can always come here with your friends and watch a good football match on television at the bar. What are your hours?

Can you describe your cuisine?

We open every day from Midday to midnight, except in winter when we close on Mondays. As a matter of fact we also close for winter holidays. We shall be closed in December and January. We need the rest.

I spent many years in Argentina, Italy and North America working in the restaurant industry. I use the best of my experience to create a truly

A delicious early autumn recipe provided by

Food Hall

PUMPKIN GNOCCHI

COCOMO

Cocktail Bar & Restaurant

Ingredients •

1.5Kg/3lbs 5oz roasted pumpkin, cut into chunks

600Ml/21¼fl oz vegetable stock

Plain flour, as required & rice flour

For the sauce •

1 rosemary branch

200g/7½ oz raw pumpkin, cut into very small cubes

25g/1 oz butter

approx. 200g/7¼oz mashed, roasted pumpkin

3 tbsp olive oil

4 tbsp grated parmesan, or vegetarian parmesan-style grating cheese

extra virgin olive oil, for drizzling

Preparation: • Place the roasted pumpkin in a moulis and whiz until you obtain a creamy consistency. Or mash with a fork or potato masher & set 200g (7¼oz) aside for the sauce • Bring to the boil the rest of the mashed pumpkin and the stock into a saucepan • Reduce the heat and stir-in abundant flour as if making polenta. It will be ready when the mixture no longer sticks to the sides of the pan. Remove from heat, allow to cool. • Place the cooled mixture on a clean, rice-floured surface and using more rice flour, roll large pieces of the dough into sausage shapes, then slice into 2cm (¾in) squares. • Bring a large saucepan of salted water to the boil. • Meanwhile make the sauce. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan and fry the rosemary until the needles are crispy. Add the raw pumpkin cubes and sauté for a couple of minutes. • In another frying pan, melt the butter and stir-in the sieved pumpkin until heated through. • Drop the fresh gnocchi into the boiling water and simmer until they rise back up to the top. As they surface, lift them out with a slotted spoon, drain well and add to the sieved pumpkin sauce. • To serve, place on individual plates and spoon some of the fried pumpkin and rosemary over each. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and a drizzle of olive oil to serve. 28

Autumn!

One of the benefits of living in Andalucia is the fact that one can always count on fresh local produce, however it is not available all year around like in the supermarkets, there are specific times of the year when you can be sure that what you buy has come fresh off the tree or plant.

The chestnuts are here!

We all know that oranges, lemons and mandarins are the fruits of autumn and winter; the best citruses are always seen from November to January, but there are other fruits that belong to this season. One of the first signs of autumn in Andalucia is the aroma produced by street vendors roasting chestnuts; this is when they are plentiful and ready to eat. They can be eaten raw, roasted on your fire/burner at home or you can also boil them. After boiling for 20 minutes, you could peel them and try to make your own “Marrons Glacés”. Dissolve some sugar in a pot of water over low heat, add a vanilla bean if you are using it, and simmer the syrup, stirring it gently with a wooden spoon, until the syrup thickens but keep it fluid. Pour the syrup over the chestnuts and simmer them over a very low flame for a half hour, then turn off the flame and let them sit for ten minutes more. Remove the chestnuts one at a time and arrange them on a serving plate and serve them with unsweetened whipped cream (if you like it). You can also sprinkle them with brandy, or serve them in cups, with a little of their syrup spooned over them.

TRAVEL & TOURISM

Exploring Открывая Andalucia Андалузию Have you ever thought of venturing outside Marbella?

Marbella, the heart of Andalucia, is known for its upmarket shops, restaurants, bars, cinemas and all kinds of night life entertainment, but what seems to be overlooked is that although Marbella is in Spain it is not really representative of the real Spain and, if you live there, it can become a bit boring to visit the same restaurants, shops and so on every day, so you may find it of interest to explore the a bit more of the real Spain.

On this occasion we shall start with Sabinillas, where we are located, between Estepona and Sotogrande, on the N340 (A7). It is a fishing village that has moved on with the times and has become very popular for its beach and its Paseo Maritimo, so much so that quite frankly it presents a parking problem in the summer. However when autumn and winter come it is an opportunity for residents of the Costa to 30

www.webexpressguide.com

TRAVEL & TOURISM

enjoy a very attractive seafront promenade with unlimited views of Gibraltar and the Mediterranean. Sabinillas, within the Manilva Ayuntamiento, makes a very good family outing. The Roman Baths are a historical attraction that is still being used for picnics and bathing in its water for sanitary reasons. You could even bring your own BBQ. The big boot sale (market) on Sundays has become a serious attraction that brings visitors from all over the Costa. This is where you will find anything old or new from fresh vegetables to computers. The area was very well known for growing Moscadel Grapes, although some cultivation still exists, most fields were sold for too many new buildings, which are now for sale at bargain prices. There is not much of a night life apart from some drinking bars which we do not recommend, but some of the restaurants are generally good and offer good value (see our page adverts). Next time you are wondering what to do on a Sunday, Sabinillas is not far, you can make an excellent family outing ending with a nice meal at Sabores on the paseo, or La Raspita for a typical Spanish meal, or even El Molino for some excellent tapas.

pret a porter

Oversize is in for autumn 2013 according to Barcelona Fashion If you like the smart sloppy look then this autumn let your fashion ideas go wild. With the sporty look combined with the comfy look set with warm fabrics and sloppy outfits, it seems we are in for an interesting autumn winter season. Whilst there are many variants with this look I have to say that the comfy factor certainly rules for me. Bomber jackets are getting an edgy overhaul. Super wearable, these jackets look great with a whole host of outfits, particularly dressed down with a pair of skinny jeans and a comfy top. The jersey is the most versatile piece of wardrobe this autumn season and also succumbs to the volume comfortable materials like cotton or wool braided. The jacket plays a major role and is combined with multiple layers of clothing. The proposals are the most outstanding, with a variety of pieces oversize in many of the collections this season. The XXL fashion designers seduced the 080 Barcelona Fashion and seized much of the looks for this winter. Volumes, multilayer’s and pieces, oversize silhouettes and expanded tops all add up to a distinguished touch to models, modern and relaxed. This dysfunctional trend is reminiscent of the 60s. Sweaters, jackets and dresses also succumb to the volume and opulence. 40

prickly pair

Sucked,

tucked and plucked! The Prickly Pair say: “Once again, a big thank you to our readers for your mail. To Ana Maria from Estepona: for a spiritual woman you certainly know some earthy language!! And, to Anon from Sotogrande: I would if I could!! Someone famous once said “A woman can filled to the gills with the stuff because Uncle never bee too rich, or too thin” and that is Sam told us it was scientifically worked out. half right, you can never be too rich! In the nineties we were shaking our bodies I am amazingly lucky, blessed as I am with and not our “slimfast”. Every A, B and C list a fabulous figure, even though I eat like celebrity under ten stone had a “work out” Pavarotti on death row, but I appreciate that video on sale. Between Jane Fonda “feeling there are those less fortunate, who it would the burn” and the green Goddess telling seem will stop at nothing in the quest for mature ladies to gently squat, the video “the body beautiful”. I find my tiny frame shops were full of something ranging from trembling with horror at the mere mention soft porn to the grim reapers P.R. of the macabre sounding self That is well behind us now. Weight mutilation on offer. loss, plastic surgery, liposculpture and any number of other In those enlightened good old unpronounceable tweaking has days, if you found yourself shot into another galaxy. turning into Hattie Jaques, you adjusted into a few But thanks to some very glossy, more yards of crimplene and very swanky magazines available swapped your stilettos for a close by, all manner of pseudo pair of Hush Puppies. medical jargon is explained and, if you can’t read, there The radical eighties gave are plenty of pictures. So dieting a scientific many pictures that at angle, or tried to, one point I thought I with “slimfast”, was looking at some which really poor unfortunate’s is “Angel varicose veins Delight” in a when in reality tin. The clever I was studying Americans a useful map who make it showing a clinic’s had plenty whereabouts. of gullible “Gordos” 44

www.webexpressguide.com

So, what’s available on the modern day Frankenstein’s menu? For starters you can ease your way in gently with “Rhinoplasty”, that’s the funky new name for a nose job. While you are at it, why not kill two birds with one stone and go for a “Blepharoplasty”. That one deals with what your granny might have called “crows feet”, so you could in effect stone the crows’ feet. Moving on to the main course, you have “Endermology” (cellulite), “Phlebology” (varicose veins) and “Microdermabrasion”. Surely you do that last one on your own! I don’t pretend to understand or in fact want to know all the technical ins and outs of plastic surgery but, cosmetic surgery for Ken and Barbie personified aside, plastic surgery does have another face (no pun intended) and has been one area of medicine that has performed some minor miracles for burns victims, birth deformities and all manner of other very worthy, deserving causes. Every branch of medicine, especially those dealing with aesthetics improvement, has a commercial private sector and the private clinics will mushroom in any place where the population has deep pockets and shallow beliefs. All this perfect ten paranoia is kept simmering away by the glossy, swanky magazines. You won’t find anybody there wearing a size 18 dress. I worry about the beautiful people. Most of them are so pumped full of silicone that topping up the orange tan must be a bit like “Russian Roulette”; how many of them run the risk of ending up as a puddle of melted silicone, when the midday sun hits 100º

Fahrenheit? Imagine the poor relatives only being able to identify the body by its Rolex, Mercedes key ring and a set of porcelain teeth! Still, look at the bright side. Funeral costs won’t eat into your inheritance if you can send them off in style in a milk bottle. Some people, it seems, will go to any length and endure any amount of what must be very painful surgery just to keep old Father Time and his brother Gravity off the Christmas card list. I for one, will not be visiting any of those Carnal Anatomical Clinics, in fact I am sure some of them are so scary you would be hard pushed to even drag Mulder & Scully into them. On the other hand however, and just for the record, there are the soft option beauty clinics, the ones that don’t offer to turn you into Hannibal Hectors party frocks. If you don’t feel ready to cut off what nature gave you, how about “Chocotherapy”. Something described as “a stimulating and invigorating treatment using melted chocolate, with Brazilian coffee and Madagascar cloves as a base”. It sounds good to me; although I think I would only be going for chocolate rub downs in the winter, unless of course you were thinking of adopting some wasps. So it looks like it all boils down to a choice between looking like a giant ripple or a raw liver lollipop. I know what gets my vote and I, like Marian Faithful before me, I will just have to take my chocolate like a man!

the book

dvd THE ICEMAN

cat sense John Bradshaw

One of the world’s leading experts on animal behaviour. Worshipped as gods, feared as demonic servants, seen as both wild opportunists and beloved companions, cats often seem as unfathomable, enigmatic and magical to us today as they did in ancient times. They have lived with humans for at least ten thousand years (far earlier than the reign of the Pharaohs), and today are the most popular pet in the world. That they now outnumber the dog, man’s ‘best friend’, by three to one, is small wonder: at once affectionate and self-reliant, they seem to be perfectly suited to our busy 21st Century lifestyles. Yet cats still think like the wild scavengers and hunters from which they are descended - and to which they can quickly revert. Today, they face unprecedented challenges in their life with humans: from conservationists who cast them as a threat to wildlife; from other cats who they compete for territory with; and from good-intentioned owners and vets with misconceptions of what they require.

Abrams Starring: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a warzone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

VIRTUAL

YES IT’S TRUE

HUMOUR He said..What do you call a woman who knows where her husband is every night? I said. . . A widow. He said ... What have you been doing with all the grocery money I gave you? I said to him.....Turn sideways and look in the mirror! A blonde, a redhead, and a brunette were all lost in the desert. They found a lamp and rubbed it. A genie popped out and granted them each one wish. The redhead wished to be back home. Poof! She was back home. The brunette wished to be at home with her family. Poof! She was back home with her family. The blonde said, “Awwww, I wish my friends were here.”

There was a blonde, a redhead, and a brunette. They were all trapped on an island and the nearest shore was 50 miles away. The redhead swam trying to make it to the other shore she swam 15 miles, drowned, and died. The brunette swam 24 miles, drowned, and died. The blonde swam 25 miles, got tired, and swam back. Having sex is like playing bridge. If you don’t have a good partner, you’d better have a good hand. I tried water polo but my horse drowned I always hated weddings because the elderly would come over and poke me saying “You’re next.”. They stopped doing it when I started doing it to them at funerals. A 10 Euros bill, a 5 Euros r bill, and a 100 Euros bill all die and go to heaven. God sees the 10 Euros bill and says he’s been good, so he let him in. He also let the 5 Euros bill in for being good. When the 100 Euros bill went up to him, God said “Hmm, well I never see YOU in church.” www.webexpressguide.com 47

HoroscopeS Your future as foretold by the Sabinillas gipsy SCORPIO

(October 23-November 21)

There are signs that you could make a lightning move this month. Your plotting and planning could give rise to some tension as others may need to see you at least preparing to move! You may be presented with various options – and even a deadline.

SAGITTARIUS

(November 22 - December 21)

You might prefer to invest more in home security, repairs and even property management. All through the month, the need to focus on maintaining wealth is strong. It might also be the case that you have concerns about health insurance or the cost of maintaining fitness levels.

CAPRICORN

(December 22 - January 19)

It should be apparent that coffers have been boosted by your actions and that what’s needed now is different attitude to investment and savings. With property matters high on the agenda for all signs, you might wish to invest on this before you move to shares or savings.

AQUARIUS (January 20-February 18)

Since April finding transmission may not have been easy. Perhaps you’ve been waiting for others to make up their minds? This should now have happened and a feeling of moving toward the finishing line and a new financial base is evident. There might be something to celebrate for.

PISCES

(February 19 – March 20)

This month could bring you sudden ‘emergency’ expenses; you could steady the financial boat over the following week. This may be due to assistance offered by those born under either Libra or Capricorn. The emphasis is still on domestic and property costs.

GEMINI

(May 21-June 21)

This month could be a real cut off point for many situations, perhaps you’ll feel you need to arrive at a conclusion of some sort by the end of the month. Whichever way you go you’re likely to incur costs (emotional as well as financial). Consider who you’re happy to be indebted to, It’s likely you will have to call in favours before

CANCER

(June 22-July 22)

Financial matters may not run as smoothly as you would like. It’s probable you’ll have warning of this therefore have determined ways in which costs could be cut. That said, it’s probable that a self-investment scheme will surface and be at a price too good to miss.

LEO

(July 23-August 22)

Shocking events may prove to be the drivers to all types of situations. It may be that you surprise yourself with renewed determination to do things better. It might also be that you decide to change career or open a second revenue stream.

VIRGO

(August 23-September 22)

It’s quite possible that your entrepreneurial spirit will surface or that you’ll be asked to take on some freelance work. Even this influx of cash might not be enough to plug all leaks, however this stream could turn into something more stable. All signs are more attuned to property and domestic matters generally.

You could be throwing hard-earned cash away. Do not to allow yourself to panic, time heals everything. One of the major features is about making deposits that deplete savings. It’s probable at this same time you join forces with someone in similar position and so alleviate pressure.

ARIES

(September 23-October 22)

(March 21-April 19)

There may be the sound of commercial potential and it’s time to move to the next stage. If you found it difficult to persuade others to come on board, give it another try, you could be successful, but make it clear to a potential partner that they need to sign up or get out of the way by mid month.

48

TAURUS

(April 20-May 20)

www.webexpressguide.com

LIBRA

It’s probable that you’re in the mood to create a long term plan. As always, determining who would be the ‘right’ partner is the driving force. This investment could involve anything from property management to creating a shared portfolio.
