editor page I am very pleased with our previous edition, not only have we had many compliments for our professionalism but we had a good amount of feedback from people who have seen our magazine in different places on the Costa. This confirms what I have always said, we are not in a race to come out on the 1st of each month it is more intelligent to be out when it matters (ie: Easter week), after all our entire distribution is picked up within days so what difference does it make as long as we produce 12 issues per year?

The US is the best place to be a female entrepreneur, according to new research. The study found that America was closely followed by Canada, Australia, Sweden and the UK, in the women-friendly business stakes. However, it highlighted the lack of funding available to American women: in 2014 just 3% of femaleowned businesses received venture capital. The Guardian www.webexpressguide.com
Two-in-three of us would rather sniff our food to test freshness than refer to the use-by date, according to a new survey. However, experts warn some harmful bugs cannot be detected by smell or taste, so the approach could put families at risk. The useby date is designed to protect consumers from poisoning – unlike best-before dates, which simply guarantee quality. The Times Earth is heading for a “mini ice-age” 15 years from now, say scientists. Fluid movements within the sun, which are thought to create 11year cycles in the weather, will converge in such a way that temperatures will fall dramatically in the 2030s, they say. The “mini ice-age” will cause bitterly cold winters during which rivers such as the Thames freeze over. EXPERIENCE & ITALIAN ELEGANCE FOR THE PERFECT EVENT (Written by Ludovica C.)
Mario Montella is a successful entrepreneur specializing in luxury events with more than 20 years experience. He came to Marbella in 2007 from the capital of fashion, Milan. Elegance, sophistication, jet-set, glamour, exclusivity are the keywords of his success and the base of the exquisite and personalized services his company, BBEVENTS, renders to his international clients, who are only used to the very best. BB EVENTS is proud of its long list of prestigious corporate and private customers over the whole of Spain. There is no event too complex or too large to be organized by Mario’s company; he and his team are also great experts in outstanding branding and marketing strategies.
The superb organizing skills leave all types of customers with peace of mind knowing they are in the very best hands. BB EVENTS’ services comprise everything and anything a client’s heart desires, from corporate incentives, to concierge service, to an elegant declaration of love and marriage proposal… or not…this all depends on the client’s wishes! Mario Montella’s philosophy is that special moments can even compensate for difficult life situations and that his company is there to help all clients organize the very best. He always aims at being the top available in his field. Since he started his career, being different and innovative marked his pathway, which proved him right when he opened the “Speakeasy Bar” in Milan; he was then only 23 years old and where he served an exclusive and unique menu, like Surf & Turf, a famous

After ten years of experience in managing successful events for his clients in Portofino, Cannes, Saint Tropez, Nice, he decides to rest and study the basis of a big project:- the UBIMAIOR CLUB, a private meeting point for high level members, with exclusivity and luxury as the very basis. After participating three times in the ParisDakar race with his friends on a Range Rover, a strong, interesting and unique adventure according to this enthusiastic and clever entrepreneur, that Mario Montella takes the decision to choose Marbella as the starting point of his company BB EVENTS, the perfect place after the well-known jetset destinations in which he already worked earlier as mentioned above, for his prestigious private and corporate clients. From Marbella he manages all kind of events in Spain and, if the client so requires, also 12

abroad, with the support of his second office recently opened in Madrid. What makes BB EVENTS really different is that if you need or wish for any special, extraordinary or extravagant, but also elegant, classic or “cool” party, incentive, meeting, anniversary, trip, etc…Mario and his team will surely make your dream an unforgettable reality!

RECIPE
INGREDIENTS The Chef at KOKOMO recommends
‘Cranachan’
For the cardamom honey • •
1 x 250g/9oz jar clear honey 20 cardamom pods, seeds only, finely ground
For the cranachan • • • • • • •
40g/1½oz medium or coarse oatmeal 200g/7oz raspberries 400ml/14fl oz double cream 2 tbsp cardamom honey (from above), or to taste 3 tbsp malt whisky ½-1 tsp rosewater, or to taste rose petals, to garnish (optional)
METHOD
Originally this traditional Scottish ‘cranachan’ celebrates the new harvest, but we can enjoy it all year-round. There are many variations, but the trick is in the slow toasting of the oatmeal; this is then mixed into the dish at the last minute to retain the texture.
16
www.webexpressguide.com
1. To make the cardamom honey, crush the cardamom pods in a pestle and mortar to separate the dry pods from the seeds. Discard the husks. Toast the seeds in a dry pan to release their oils so they become aromatic. 2. Pour half of the honey into a pan and add the crushed and toasted cardamom seeds. Gently heat through until the honey starts to bubble at the edges. Remove from the heat and pour the flavoured honey back into the jar with the remaining honey. Stir and leave to cool, uncovered. When cool, put on the lid and ideally store for 24 hours before using. 3. To make the ‘cranachan’, heat a heavy-bottomed pan and toast the oatmeal over a lowish heat, stirring until it smells warm and nutty and changes colour. This will take 10-15 minutes. Leave to cool. 4. In a bowl, mush half of the raspberries. In a separate bowl, whisk the cream with the honey, whisky and rosewater until soft peaks form, then fold in the crushed raspberries. 5. Fold in the toasted oatmeal and two-thirds of the remaining whole raspberries. Adjust the honey and rose water to taste. Spoon the ‘cranachan’ into small glasses, garnish with the remaining raspberries and some rose petals. Drizzle with a wee bit more of the cardamom honey and serve.

Intimate Laser The revolutionary solution for women’s comprehensive well being. Information of interest by HC Marbella
It represents a revolution from the point of view of the technology applied to gynaecological consultations, tackling in an integral way to solve morphological and functional alterations.
complications and the recovery is very fast. If in doubt, consult your CO2 laser specialist in Marbella.
The gynaecology unit of HC Marbella has a new laser solution for the integral wellbeing of the female intimate zone; it has fractionated CO2 laser technology. This intimate laser means an effective, safe and non-surgical treatment that solves the effects caused by pregnancy, childbirth, age or menopause in a woman's body; greatly increasing their quality of life.
Mild and moderate female urinary incontinence: Unintentional loss of urine in women with stress occurs when they play sports, laugh or sneeze. Thanks to the heat of the laser, the remodelling of the collagen in the vagina mucosa is favoured, reinforcing the anterior wall of the vagina.
How does the CO2 laser work?
APPLICATIONS
Vaginal relaxation syndrome and vaginal atrophy: The intimate laser renews the collagen of the vagina that has lost tone and elasticity through births and age. It is also beneficial in the menopause because it increases mucosal thickness, lubrication and genital microcirculation. Functional and aesthetic genital surgery: GyneLase™ helps to redesign and rejuvenate the appearance of the external genitalia, achieving greater uniformity; it is also used for genital whitening.
The CO2 laser, named GyneLase™, produces a controlled and highly precise thermal effect on the vaginal mucosa, causing a contraction and re-extension of the tissue, giving the vaginal canal its natural elasticity. The laser energy deposited along the vaginal wall heats the tissue without damaging it, stimulating the formation of new collagen in the endopelvic fascia. STROKES WHAT TO DO
Extract taken form Angels Nursing Group newsletter, supplied by Sonia Fendley of STM Nummos Life. For contact details please contact 956 796148 A stroke is a serious life-threatening medical condition that occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off. It is a medical emergency and urgent treatment is essential. The sooner a person receives treatment for a stroke, the less damage is likely to happen. If you suspect that you or someone else is having a stroke, immediately call for an ambulance.
SYMPTOMS OF A STROKE The main symptoms of a stroke can be remembered with the word F.A.S.T.: • FACE: The face may have dropped on one side, the person may not be able to smile, or their mouth or eye may have dropped • ARMS: The person may not be able to lift both arms and keep them there because of weakness or numbness in one arm • SPEECH: The speech may be slurred or garbled, or the person may not be able to talk at all despite appearing to be awake • TIME: It’s time to dial 112 immediately if you see any of these signs or symptoms.
CAUSES OF A STROKE Like all organs, the brain needs the oxygen and nutrients provided by blood to function properly. If the supply of blood is restricted or stopped, brain cells begin to die. This can lead to brain injury, disability and possibly death.
32
www.webexpressguide.com
There are two main causes of strokes: ischaemic – where the blood supply is stopped because of a blood clot, accounting for 85% of all cases haemorrhagic – where a weakened blood vessel supplying the brain bursts There’s also a related condition known as a transient ischaemic attack (TIA), where the blood supply to the brain is temporarily interrupted. This causes what’s known as a mini-stroke, often lasting between a few minutes and several hours. TIAs should be treated urgently, they’re often a warning you’re at risk of having a full stroke in the near future. Seek medical advice as soon as possible, even if your symptoms resolve. High blood pressure (hypertension); High cholesterol; Atrial fibrillation; Diabetes are conditions that increase the risk of a stroke. You can significantly reduce your risk of having a stroke through leading a healthy lifestyle by: Eating a healthy diet; Taking regular exercise; Drinking alcohol in moderation; Not smoking. If you have a condition that increases your risk of a stroke, it’s important to manage it effectively – for example, by lowering high blood pressure or cholesterol levels with medication. If you’ve had a stroke or TIA in the past, these measures are particularly important because your risk of having another stroke is greatly increased.

GENESIS PROJECT Now that Corinne Lewin is a ROTARIAN, it is relevant to report about her “ART SCHOOL PROJECT GENESIS” which is intended to provide children with free art classes by the gallery’s professional artists, of course with the cooperation of their schools. The aim is to encourage children to better understand art and even discover the extent of their own personal talent at expressing themselves. An art competition for children of different schools, who submitted their artistic entries, was a successful first event celebrated on the 26th of May attended by the panel of judges, who were mainly Rotarians.

Although the event did not seem to be too warmly welcomed by the Laude San Pedro International College, it was where the first number of presentations was made.

The presentation at the Colegio Alboran was a very refreshing experience. We found that the teachers as well as the students made all members of the ART SCHOOL PROJECT GENESIS most welcome. Everyone seemed happy and sincere with big smiles, which was most encouraging and rewarding for Corinne who is offering this special classes to all schools. An invitation to luncheon with the students in the refectory could not be refused and what a pleasant experience it was.

my opinion
Do we need to fight wars
over oil?
Global Conflicts are increasingly fuelled by the Desire for Oil and Natural Gas - and the abstract Funds They Generate. By Count De La Perrelle
Iraq, Syria, Nigeria, South Sudan, Ukraine, the East and South China Aeas. It seems to me that these days the world is aflame with new or worsening conflicts. At first glance, most of these upheavals and smaller conflicts appear to be independent events, sometimes even driven by their own unique and idiosyncratic set of circumstances. But if you look more closely you will see that they share many key characteristics. In fact it is a brew of ethnic, religious, and national antagonisms that have been boiling up to a possibly unnecessary fixation on energy.
www.webexpressguide.com
43
In every single one of these conflicts, the fighting is caused mostly by the brewing up of long-standing historic antagonisms among neighbouring tribes, sects, and peoples. For example in Iraq and Syria, there is a clash among Sunnis, Shiites, Kurds, Turkmen to name but a few. In Nigeria most of the troubles are between Muslims, Christians and various tribal groups. In South Sudan, between the Dinka and Nuer;. In Ukraine, between Ukrainian loyalists and Russian-speakers aligned with Moscow. In the East and South China Sea, among the Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Filipinos, and others. I am sure you get the point. Now to be honest it is very easy to attribute all this to age-old hatreds as we are often advised by many analysts but while such hostilities do help to drive these conflicts, they are often fuelled in my opinion, by a desire to control all the valuable oil and natural gas assets. Let us not pretend anything different, these are all twenty-first century energy wars perhaps being adopted by some using religion as a pretext. I am sure nobody is surprised to know that energy plays a significant role in these conflicts. Oil and gas are definitely the world’s most important and seriously valuable commodities and constitute a major source of income for every government and/ or corporation that controls the production and distribution rights. Quite frankly the governments of Iraq, Nigeria, Russia, South Sudan and Syria derive the majority of their revenues from oil sales. Let’s not forget also that the major energy companies, many of which are state owned, command immense control and 44

my opinion
power in all these countries involved and of course the collection and allocation of crucial revenues. Despite the patina of historical enmities, many of these conflicts, then, are really struggles for control over the principal source of national income. Moreover, we live in an energy-centric world where total control over oil and gas resources including delivery, translates into powerful world clout for some and serious economic vulnerability for others. Unfortunately because so many countries are dependent on energy imports nations with abundance and surpluses to export, including Iraq, Nigeria, Russia, and South Sudan, often exercise disproportionate influence on the world stage. Now do not run away with the idea that what happens in these countries does not involve us sometimes it matters as much to the rest of us as to the people living in all of these different countries. Sometimes the risk of external involvement in their conflicts, whether in the form of direct intervention, arms sales or transfers, possibly the sending in of military advisers, or perhaps economic assistance, is greater than almost anywhere else. On first glance, the fossil-fuel factor in the most recent outbreaks of tension and fighting may seem less evident, but look more closely and you’ll see that each of these conflicts is, at heart, an energy war. Iraq, Syria, and IS The Islamic State (IS), the Sunni extremist group that controls large chunks of western Syria and northern Iraq, is possibly a well armed militia group which is certainly intent on creating an Islamic caliphate in the areas it controls. In my opinion it is a fanatical, sectarian religious organization, seeking
to reproduce in this modern twenty first century the pure piety of the early days of Islamic era. Also it intends to create a total Islamic state. There is no way that IS could ever hope to accomplish its evil ambitious goals. However, as it does occupy key oil-producing areas of Syria and oil-refining facilities in Iraq, it is in a unique position with clever manoeuvring to do so. From what I can understand from my research, IS sells oil from the fields it controls to shadowy middlemen who in turn arrange for its transport usually by tanker trucks, to buyers in Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. People we have helped or are allies with! Oil, then, is absolutely essential to the organization’s grand strategy. In a fossil-fuel world, control over oil and gas reserves is an essential component of national power. Oil fuels powerful countries military power, Government treasuries and of course international politics including our own far more than any ordinary trade commodity. It also fuels countries national security, and their individual international power. Incredible power for those who possess this oil resource, and the opposite for those who do not. So in conclusion, I feel that it is even truer today. Energy wars will continue to expand and to be honest the truth of this will only become more evident in the near future. Someday perhaps, the development of renewable sources of energy, wind power, sea power etc., may invalidate this dictum. But in my opinion, if you see a conflict developing, look for the energy. It’ll be there somewhere on this fossil-fuelled planet of ours run by greedy people wanting control over others and the world. www.webexpressguide.com

THERE ARE EXEMPTION WHEN SUBMITTING A TAX RETURN As we have previously seen, according to article 10 of the Spanish Income Tax Law, every tax-resident with income of any sort is obliged to submit a tax return, named the RENTA. By Limit Consulting This is most certainly the case for the selfemployed individuals. The Autonomos are obliged to submit a return as part of their administrative obligations in all cases, independently of the fact that they made a profit or not. However, there are some exceptions for individuals who get their incomes by other means. •
46
Workers who receive payments from only one client and whose annual salary is under 22,000€ are not obliged to submit a tax return. The submission of the return is voluntary because the tax would have been deducted at source. However it may be in their interest to submit a return in case they are due a rebate..
•
Workers receiving an annual income below 22,000€ who, even having more than one client, the amounts received from the individual lesser payers does not exceed 1500€.
•
Workers with more than one payer below the limit of 1500€ as mentioned in point 2 above but with a total of all incomes below 11200€.
•
Pensioners with an annual pension under 11200€, in cases when the payer is not obliged to with-hold tax at source. This also applies to foreign pensions. That is, if your pension is over this figure, you are obliged to submit one.
Other incomes •
Real Estate related profit under 1000€ or loss under 500€, when the operation was subjected to retention or withholdings. (This allowance is compatible with cases 1-4)
•
When interests and dividends do not exceed 1000€, and they are the only income.
The main reason for these exemptions is due to the fact that in most cases the Tax Agency has already received your tax via “retentions” performed by your payers at source, or your incomes are so small that any tax liability would be totally reduced by your personal allowances. Any income coming from any other source than those mentioned here should be informed however small it might be. Need any help with your tax return? Call us!

Let’s talk about the questions An exhilarating Experience - By Leslie Thomson
As mentioned in a previous edition, in collaboration with Blacktower Financial Management, the Red Cross Ambulance, the Town hall of Mijas and that of Benalmádena we were given the opportunity to give a talk on “Dying in Spain”. It was exhilarating experience. I know that people are remiss to talk about “kicking the bucket” but once in the mood the flow of questions ….and answers…..not only was it informative to the attendees but illuminating to me too. Many of the questions asked were clearly based on true stories. One particular person asked me what is the situation should someone die in the street, which authority supersedes the other because there are three, mainly the Guardia Civil, the Policia Nacional and the Policia Local.

I am sure you might like to know the answer to that, so I suggest you come up and see us at the next talk, you will definitely find it a good experience. It did not take long before the whole meeting was buzzing with questions and answers. Obviously we cannot mention names but some of the comments made to me subsequently were as follows:“Following your talk I’ve done the following...” “I made copies my documents as you suggested” “I informed and talked to the family” “Is there anything else you suggest I do?” “My wife and I have purchased a Funeral Plan thanks to your talk.” “Could you share with me a copy of your talk?” This is why I say it was “exhilarating”. That the talk should be a call to action is probably the best measure of a message being transmitted clearly. There will be another talk sometime in September, but you need not wait to be informed, drop us a line, give us a call, come to our offices (we’re open Monday to Friday from 9 to 2 and 4 to 8). To my fellow presenters I wish to say “Thank You” for creating an ambience of ease for Q&A and to both town Halls, Mijas and Benalmádena, not only a “Thank You” but also congratulations for their concern with the well being of Foreign Residents. For you information, the persons behind the scenes are Annette and Katja for Mijas Council and Joanna for Benalmádena. Their bosses are M Roy Pérez Vierick and Ana Scherman Martin respectively.

¿Que pasa con las
tallas?
«Y no podía respirar».

The kimono dress user’s manual Because it is one of the most charismatic pieces of the season, it is fair and necessary to control the keys with which to exploit its versatility The keys are concrete, very concrete. The mixture of the exoticism and the naturalism is so balanced and delicate that it’s hypnotic. The speed at which the sight of these kimono dresses appear on the streets, it simply implies they are a resounding success. Well, underlies how do I wear it?
54
www.webexpressguide.com
It is also evocative because worn as is, as a dress, (the use for which it was created), it can be worn as a an evening gown or for a special week-end meal, and why not even a business appointment. The key to wear it with formality is to use the most natural makeup and hair style while reducing all the additional complementary effects.
With jeans and a shirt, but (almost) closed. Yes, you read it right. At this point, the combo dress + pants should not really appear odd as the combination is sufficiently daring although only some would be able to wear it right.
Here begins that slightly difficult terrain iwhere theDress begins to act almost like a jacket. This is because it is not quite a dress in itslef but the defining crossroad leaves it open to play with any other clothing item under it. The greater the drama in the dress (like this lace and transparencies, the more relaxed can be the tone of the footwear. Of course, the reverse works too, which multiplies options and demonstrates that the charism is not incompatible with versatility.

Karaoke! Although it has been mentioned that the language we use in our column can be a little saucy, in our defence, we are careful to substitute letters with little stars. Of course we try to tome down a little for our more sensitive readers.

Now if you work in a f****** boring job like IT, the chances are you have some form of outlet for the inevitable frustration built up spending all day with only your little square headed friend for company. So, Friday night has come around again. Just how do the normal and not so normal Brits in Spain let off steam? Eating out is very popular, but let’s face it, unless you are old or trying to get into someone’s pants or an IT worker, just eating out is not really the end of the week. Kicking up your heels, letting down your hair is the kind of Tomfoolery that many of us need after a week’s hard drinking, sorry, hard work. Well let’s explore the other options, the cinema was once the place to go for your end of working week treat, but that was back in the days when the films had a basic storyline, the young couple consummating their 24hr old relationship had the decency to sit at the back and a bucketful of popcorn didn’t cost as much as a Saville row suit. Most of the bars in Spain offer some form of entertainment at the weekend; at the top end of the market, you get a nice comfy seat in a clean, friendly, air-conditioned bar, where you can watch a professional singer and spend a nice relaxed evening. Now I don’t need to go over old ground yet again but this kind of venue may not be enough to entertain the more Charlotte Church or Noel Gallagher amongst us. So let’s slide right down to the earthier a*** end of the entertainment league and there it is, Karaoke, still as popular as ever, despite being around nearly 20 years. The question therefore has to be: what makes standing up in front of a group of complete strangers, making a right ***t of yourself so popular? Well believe it or not, I am in a unique position to answer that question, being as I am a bit of a Karaoke queen
myself, don’t get me wrong I am not your run of the mill, usual drunken squawking old tart. Oh no! I am a drunken old tart of a different kind. Being blessed, as I am, with a voice like a much younger, much sexier Shirley Bassey, it gives me a real buzz to know how much pleasure I am bringing into the lives of my many, slightly jealous admirers. Being magnanimous by nature and slightly softhearted, I do feel a great sense of camaraderie towards my fellow karaoke performers, in spite of the fact that I outshine them, like a right star. If you have never been to a Karaoke night, but find yourself curious, then by all means go along. But, if at any stage, or having reached the required level of intoxication, you find yourself strangely drawn to the microphone like a moth to a flame, then there are a few rules the Karaoke virgin should adhere to. Rule number 1, never attempt a full Tina Turner, unless like the great lady herself, you can stand with legs wide enough apart to drive a smart car through them. Rule number 2, nobody likes to hear Old Shep or Seasons in the sun whilst on a jolly piss up. Rule number 3, don’t attempt Big Spender unless you do have lungs like barrage balloons And finally, if at any time a stunning blond, with a fantastic figure and a voice like a chocolate covered angel gets up on stage, you might as well go home, because it will be me and it breaks my heart every time I see that haunted, far away, almost murderous look in the eyes of strangers. Its just another cross I have to bear; thank God I haven’t let it make me vain and shallow! www.webexpressguide.com

DIRT 4
FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE GAME
Dirt 4 will build upon the team management systems introduced in Dirt Rally and Grid Autosport, with the player hiring personnel to repair the car, oversee the day-to-day operations, and boost the team’s profile to secure new sponsors. Players will also be able to buy and sell new and used cars, with previous results and accident histories affecting the resale value of the car.
The game is an asymmetrical multiplayer video game, with up to eight people able to play in one game. One player controls Jason Voorhees, while the remaining players control camp counselors at Crystal Lake. A player may also control Tommy Jarvis, who becomes playable when certain conditions are met. Jason has heightened hearing and vision, with him being able to teleport anywhere the player wants. The objective of the counselors is to escape from the camp or survive until time runs out on the session, while Jason’s objective is to kill all the remaining players.
