Yes, I know that the world is troubled with so many problems everywhere but quite frankly we are lucky to be living here on the Costa del Sol. As I keep saying, apart from the climate and the good food, it is probably one of the safest and more leisurely places where to be.
Cheer up!! We now have the end of year festivities to look forward to and the start of a very promising year to follow. Web Express is still here after 25 years because we have always honestly considered both the advertisers as well as the readers.

It is almost 25 years since webexpressguide.com was registered, specialising in promoting the best part of the Costa del Sol between Marbella, Sotogrande and Gibraltar, which we also print and distribute as a portable quality magazine.
Over the years we have built a reputation for good quality at competitive prices for high quality advertisers who wish to be seen all year round by all nationalities in the area including Spanish.

This will be done by adding our recommended logo on their printed adverts.

Brexit ‘killing hospitality industry’. e number of hospitality venue closures is rising sixfold in just a year. Brexit is “killing the hospitality industry”, said the paper, as the net closure of almost 4,600 pubs, clubs, hotels and restaurants in the year to 31 March 2023 “lays bare the devastating impact of sta shortages caused by Brexit as well as the cost-of-living crisis”. Many owners have blamed persistent sta shortages since leaving the EU as the main reason for closure.

Wall squats and planks best at lowering blood pressure. Strength-training exercises such as wall squats or holding the plank position are among the best ways to lower blood pressure, a study suggests. Current guidance focusing mainly on walking, running and cycling should be updated, the UK researchers say. Analysis, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, of trials involving 16,000 people found all exercise lowered high blood pressure. But wall squats and planking led to larger falls than aerobic exercise. ese isometric exercises are designed to build strength without moving muscles or joints. BBC
Casino Marbella puts the finishing touch to the Costa del Sol Fantastic Film Festival
The Unicornio Association, directed by Julio Peces, has celebrated, from September 4 to 10, the XXIV edition of the Costa del Sol International Fantastic Film Festival.
This year, the theme chosen by the organization was “Serial Killers” and, as usual, the Festival's closing party took place at the emblematic Casino Marbella.
As a nod to the main focus of the Festival, on September 8, the gardens of the Casino were transformed into the Paris of the 1920s, inspired by the experiences of the character Monsieur Verdoux, played by Charles Chaplin in what would be his penultimate film, based on the life of serial killer Henri Désiré Landru.
A Parisian party where the iconic Eiffel Tower was not missing illuminated by a striking moon full or the shadow of Monsieur Verdoux himself stalking his next victim, creating a magical atmosphere.
Among the guests were personalities from the world of cinema and television, highlighting the presence of the presenter and actress Lara Dibildos, the recent award-winning actress Cristina Medina or the renowned TV Director Javier Quintas, among others.
The Vintage Experience was in charge of providing the soundtrack to the night, creating the perfect atmosphere in which the more than 120 guests enjoyed the evening to the rhythm of jazz.
Once again, Casino Marbella achieved a resounding success, making the event a unforgettable experience for each of the attendees.

BE AWARE OF THE NEW LAW
coming in effect as of 29 September 2023. 17/2021
Fines for not complying with the law are from 500 to 50.000 euros.
The new law is for the protection of animals and is considering them to be living beings with feelings. The law does not include bulls or hunting dogs, they have their own laws.
Rules for dogs, cats and ferrets:
• when over 3 months must be micro chipped, have a passport, and a yearly rabies vaccination.

• all cats need to be neutered before 6 months of age or be inscribed as breeding animals in the registro de criadores de animales.
• breeding of dogs is only allowed when inscribed in the registro de criadores de animales. Puppies and kittens may only be micro chipped and registered to an owner with the number of the registry. Otherwise it is considered to be an abandoned animal and will have to go to a shelter. If your pet accidentally gets pregnant you must inscribe directly.
• the owner of a dog must do a free online course before getting a dog. The idea behind this course is to stop the impulsive acquisitions of animals and their abandonment. The course will help future owners to become knowledgeable of what it implies to take care of an animal. It will be valid for ever but still has to be created.
• if you already have a dog then the course must be completed within 2 years.
• the rules for PPP dogs will stay the same.
• no animals are allowed to be left alone for more than 3 days, in the case of dogs this is 24 consecutive hours.
• it is forbidden to tie a dog up outside a shop or to let it wander around in public areas without the presence of the owner, they cannot be left habitually on terraces, balconies, rooftops etc, or left alone in the car.
• dogs will be allowed in the taxi, bus, train, restaurants and on the beach unless it is explicitly (sign) forbidden.
• no more than 5 dogs can be registered to one owner or they will have be registered as a núcleo zoótecnico.
• for the training of dogs the law prohibits the use of electrical collars, impulse collars, physical punishment or suffocating. Education should be done without provoking fear or pain.
• if your pet gets lost you have to communicate the loss within 48 hours to the authorities and through your veterinarian, who will also check your actual data.
• the abandonment of animals is a crime. The penalty is up to 50.000 euros. And if it has put the animal in danger then also 1-6 months of prison or 1-3 months community service can be given.
• when the animal dies, proof of incineration or burial must accompany the baja registral of the microchip
• the sacrificio zero implies that animals cannot be euthanized because there is nowhere to put them, they are old, have a treatable condition or for financial reasons. Euthanasia may only be done by an accredited veterinarian, and is only justified by the purpose to avoid suffering from non-recoverable reasons that compromise the
Ayuntamiento (townhall)
Each townhall is responsible for retrieving animals from the streets and must have a shelter – either private or municipal- to take them to. They must be available 24 hours a day and provide for emergency care. They are responsible for the cat colonies.
Cat colonies
• all cat colonies need to be registered at the Ayuntamiento.
• the person responsible for the feeding etc. will be given a contract as a volunteer. They will be given an ID card. No other person is allowed to feed or remove these cats.
• all cats must be micro chipped (registered to the Ayuntamiento), neutered before the 6 months and vaccinated for rabies every year and treated for worms and external parasites.
• a non- micro chipped stray cat may not be neutered without a implanting a microchip and receiving the obligatory treatments.
ILLEGAL PETS
From September 29, the Spanish Government will also enforce the new Animal Welfare Law, which will make certain pets that were previously legal are now illegal to own.
Under this law, owners of these now-prohibited pets will be required to notify the relevant authorities of their possession within six months of the law coming into effect. Furthermore, the competent authorities will take necessary actions to transfer these animals to wildlife protection centres, zoos, or animal protection entities.
LIST OF PROHIBITED PETS

A BIT OF ``GUIDE`` HISTORY
We GUIDE people to businesses and businesses to people
Since the creation of our website some 25 years ago, some of our clients may still remember the start of Web Express Guide.
Unfortunately this was half a century ago, not only time makes you forget but, apart from the residents to the Costa del Sol, people come and go as well as businesses almost on a daily basis, yes including businesses. I have just read on the news that the number of ``official bankruptcies`` in Spain this year has grown by 200%.
For this reason I would like to try and remind our readers and advertisers that 25 years ago the internet hardly existed nor did Google and I saw the need for an efficient media to serve advertisers more efficiently and at a reasonable cost so I created probably the first website dedicated to the Costa del Sol.
Having spent the time and the money to do this, unfortunately it seemed to serve no purpose because no-one seemed to know about it and there were hardy any internet users then. This is why the website needed to be advertised for people to know about it.
The problem was how to advertise the website. Radio? Newspapers? Magazines? Leaflets? Apart of the expense, advertising in external media suggested that the website did not work.
This is why I decided to start our own magazine, which is a printed version of the website on a monthly basis. As soon as the first edition was out, it proved to be an enormous success as well as the first website printed as a magazine, this is why the company is now called WEB(maga)ZINE S.L. I believe that we still are the only printed website, which is different from a publication online. .
A website that has now been modernized and with excellent results mainly because of the large and well established database and our continuous policy of upgrading and improving results for the sincere benefit of all our advertisers.

THE MAIN CAUSES OF INFERTILITY CURRENTLY AFFECTING MEN AND WOMEN
DR. JORDANA MATAIThe World Health Organization (WHO) has itself declared it a disease as fertility problems are now estimated to affect 1 in 6 couples of reproductive age.
As we explained in our blog regarding the current importance of assisted reproduction, according to the Spanish Fertility Society, in Spain alone 10% of children born are as a result of assisted reproduction techniques.
The truth is that in addition to the obvious problem for the women and couples affected, the problems arising from infertility may now be considered a true demographic problem. With many couples not considering a second pregnancy, due to a delay in the age at which they finally achieve their first pregnancy, there has been a significant effect on the birth rate.
What are the main causes of infertility at this current time?
Female infertility: why is pregnancy elusive?
We often insist on the importance of age when a woman wishes to become pregnant and this is, without a doubt, the main problem facing assisted reproduction today.
We must not forget, as the years go by, both the quality and the quantity of eggs produced by a woman in each menstrual cycle begin to decrease, especially from around the age of 35, so when reaching this age, it can be very difficult to become pregnant. However, often a woman’s biological clock does not go hand in hand with the best time personally or professionally, postponing pregnancy, something we are fully aware of at HC Fertility,
Although age is probably the main factor affecting women today, in our outpatient department we also treat other causes or conditions which make pregnancy difficult.
The most common causes diagnosed and for which we provide personalised treatment are:
• Endometriosis: endometriosis is a disease which affects approximately 1 in 10 women, hindering or preventing pregnancy depending on its severity, with symptoms affecting day-to-day life for the women who suffer from it. Fortunately, although it is a relatively unknown disease, in recent years much progress has been made in its diagnosis and treatment, as well as in the reproductive options for women suffering from it.
• Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): this is a complex metabolic disorder which affects fertility due to one fundamental feature, the absence of ovulation (also known as anovulation), women with this disease do not therefore fall pregnant easily.
• Fallopian tube damage: a relatively common problem is damage to the fallopian tubes, usually an obstruction, which prevents the egg from moving and meeting the sperm for fertilisation. The reasons for this are diverse, the most common being Salpingitis (inflammation of the tube) or Hydrosalpinx, that is, the accumulation of fluid in one of the tubes, usually as result of infection.
• Absence of menstruation: factors which can cause our body not to ovulate at any given time, apart from diseases such as PCOS, are also very much related to our habits and lifestyle. Thus, factors
such as stress, obesity or rapid and sudden weight loss are very common causes for lack of menstruation. The absence of regular cycles leads almost unfailingly to a lack of ovulation, therefore rendering pregnancy impossible.
Male infertility: main causes
A few weeks ago, we shared an article in our blog section in which we reflected on the increase in cases in which infertility within a couple is associated with a male factor.
It is worth remembering that the number of cases we deal with in our clinic in which the diagnosis of reproductive health status indicates that the problems are in the man or the woman are currently very similar. In around 40% of cases the diagnosis is related to the man and in another 40% it is related to the woman. In the last article we explained how lifestyle and unhealthy habits, for example, obesity, smoking, alcoholism or sedentary lifestyle, are issues associated with poor semen quality.
Aside from this, there are a number of biological factors affecting both the quantity and quality of sperm, including:
Abnormalities in testicular function which directly affect the quality of semen, for example, azoospermia or oligospermia of testicular origin.
Obstruction or infection in the ducts, having a resulting effect.
• Abnormalities in the reproductive system.
• Hormonal abnormalities which influence reproductive function.
• Genetic abnormalities.
CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE
CKD is a condition in which the kidneys are damaged and cannot lter blood as well as they should. Because of this, excess uid and waste from blood remain in the body and cause other health problems, such as heart disease and stroke.
The main causes of CKD are diabetes and high blood pressure and some of the signs as it progresses are nausea and vomiting, muscle cramps, loss of appetite, swelling via feet and ankles, dry, itchy skin, shortness of breath, trouble sleeping, urinating either too much or too little.
Unfortunately, once damaged, currently there is no cure to restore the function of damaged kidneys and as they deteriorate the result is terminal. The time it takes to terminal point depends on the individual case but the result is the same.
Luckily there is a solution that helps, it is called dialysis a medical process where a machine regulates blood and removes toxins like salt, water, and waste. It does some of the work that your kidneys did when they were healthy. A healthy, working kidney can remove uid and waste 24 hours a day.
It is a specialized and expensive process that does prolong extensively the life of the patient it is usually provided free of charge by nations with a national health service but even more luckily it is carried out by some dedicated nurses who deliberately choose and train to treat CKD patients who would not survive past a few weeks without the treatment.
Visitors from non EU countries will require a travel pass to visit EU 30 countries in 2024. Holidaymakers jetting off to certain European countries will be required to apply for a new travel pass next year Because of Brexit, this includes UK travellers.
What is ETIAS?
European Travel Information and Authorisation System
ETIAS is a travel authorisation set to begin in 2024 in 30 European countries. It will be valid for three years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.
The travel pass will be linked to your passport, and visitors will be permitted to travel in the ETIAs countries for up to 90 days within a 180 day period.
The EU website warns travellers they will be refused entry at the border if their passport is not valid for three months after your intended departure from ETIAS countries.
This means that people with citizenship from countries including the UK, US, and Australia will be required to apply for the €7 (£6) pass before embarking on their travels.
How do you apply for an ETIAS?
Applications will be available online on the official ETIAS website https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias and through a mobile app when the pass comes into effect. The fee will cost €7 (£6).
When will ETIAS begin?
An exact start date has not been named, but the EU guidance already urges travellers to apply for an ETIAS "well in advance", specifically "before you buy your ticket or book your accommodation".
The countries that will require ETIAS are as follows: Austria – Belgium – Bulgaria – Croatia – Cyprus - Czech Republic – Denmark – Estonia - Finland – France – Germany – Greece – Hungary -Iceland – Italy – Latvia –Liechtenstein – Lithuania – Luxembourg – Malta – Netherlands – Norway – Poland – Portugal – Romania –Slovakia – Slovenia – Spain – Sweden – Switzerland –

ALCOHOL HELPS YOU APPROACH ATTRACTIVE PEOPLE, BUT IT DOESN'T MAKE THEM MORE ATTRACTIVE TO YOU.
It's traditionally thought that when we're intoxicated with alcohol, we find other people more attractive, but a new study finds it's actually about courage.
We often refer to the fact that, when people are under the influence of alcohol, they see others as more handsome than they would otherwise be. But, according to a new study, this phenomenon has not been systematically studied. In previous research, participants were limited to evaluating the attractiveness of other sober and intoxicated people based on photos.
The widespread belief about the effects of alcohol is that intoxication makes others appear more handsome. But this new study published in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs added a more realistic view.
For researchers, alcohol is "liquid courage." Their results indicate that alcohol consumption increases the likelihood of approaching people who are already considered attractive, but that it does not make others appear more attractive. To carry out the research, the principal investigator, Dr. Molly A. Bowdring, of the Stanford Preventive Research Centre, in Palo Alto, California (affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh at the time of this study), and her director thesis, Dr. Michael Sayette, took 18 pairs of male friends in their 20s to the laboratory to rate the attractiveness of the people they saw in photos and videos.
Participants were told that they might have the opportunity to interact with one of those people in a future experiment. After rating their attractiveness, they were asked to select the people they would most like to interact with. Two pairs of friends came to the laboratory on two occasions. On one occasion, both men were given alcohol (up to approximately 0.08% blood alcohol concentration, the legal limit for driving in the United States) and on the other occasion, both men were given a non-alcoholic drink. The researchers brought pairs of friends into the lab to mimic the social interactions that would normally take place in a real drinking situation.
The researchers found no evidence that the participants were influenced by the beer. Whether the participants were intoxicated or not had no influence on how good-looking they thought others were. "The well-known 'beer goggles' effect of alcohol sometimes appears in the literature, but not as consistently as one might expect," Sayette observes.
However, alcohol consumption did affect the likelihood that men would want to interact with people they considered attractive. When they were drinking, they were 1.71 times more likely to select one of their four most attractive candidates to meet in a future study, compared to when they were sober.
It is possible that alcohol is not altering perception, but rather increasing trust in interactions, giving men the liquid courage to want to meet those they found most attractive, something they would otherwise be much less likely to do.
These results could have implications for therapists and patients, the authors note. "People who drink alcohol may benefit from recognizing that valued social motivations and intentions change through drinking in ways that may be attractive in the short term, but possibly harmful in the long term," Bowdring says.

AS PUBLISHED IN OUR PREVIOUS EDITION, MASSIMO CEDRINI AND GIUSEPPE CARNEVALE OF THE EXCELLENCE ART GALLERY SUCCESSFULLY PRESENTED THEIR
MARBELLA COLLECTION IN MONTE CARLO.
On August 25, for the 3rd time, the International Contemporary Art Fair presented, in the Chapiteau de Fotvieille district, a new edition taking the Principality of Monaco as its setting. The event was attended by gallery owners, creators, collectors and the general public who gathered there to admire the work of talented and established artists, showing more than 3,000 works from all over the world.
The gallery owners, Massimo Cedrini and Giuseppe Carnevale, brought from Marbella an unprecedented collection of art, part of which was exhibited at the Paris International Art Fair at Porte de Versalles. This proposal surprised by the fusion of different styles and techniques, but at the same time maintaining an impeccable harmony between all its pieces.
This fair celebrated the gallery’s 20th participation in international fairs in its almost 9 years of uninterrupted activity.
The Italian gallerist and artist Massimo Cedrini exhibited his set of figurative works “Osso Polar”, and paintings focused on the animal world. They highlight the impressionist style and the oil work in which the gaze of animals takes centre stage, symbolically launching a cry for attention in defence of the animal world itself.
On the other hand, Ivanna Plaza Frattari, originally from Mendoza, Argentina, focused her abstract painting on the world of interior design, presenting her latest collection made in Marbella in which she showed broken colours through her impure palette to reveal a chromaticism that recalls the desert, where nothing exists and everything is possible.
Samuel Benarroch took the viewer to the most spiritual part of him with his intimate painting of abstract lines. The original methacrylate paintings on canvas by Pilar Segarra representing domestic interiors or poetic gardens were joined by the paintings of the Chilean artist Marjory Muller, inviting a careful reflection on the freedom and strength through the freedom that can express, for example, horses and bulls.
In the works of the Catalan artist Alex Mañe, encrypted messages aimed at the awakening of consciousness were observed in his collages. The Argentine Irma Vitale presented an ode to nature with her works inspired by the design and construction of gardens. Meanwhile, Consuelo Buesa showed her Pop Art style with which she gives free rein to her creativity, representing faces of famous people through a flat painting that has artists such as Hamilton and Hockney as reference.
In the paintings of the American artist Matthew Gabler Lamb one could observe an abstract figuration that recalls, due to its chromaticism, the great “Miró”. Paul Arts, originally from the Netherlands, captures the moment and amplifies the emotion that, otherwise, could remain in the background; According to the artist, body language and facial expressions reveal the true content of a message.
Venezuelan Katty Sardi, says that intuitive painting is transformative and that it allows her to connect with her creativity. She has a degree in visual art and uses alcohol ink on synthetic paper as her main technique. In Spain, thanks to her numerous and successful international exhibitions, she has expanded her studies with a master's degree in design.
The painting of the artist from Utrera (Seville) Juan Villores, inspired by pop art and the world of comics, lives his art through references such as Velázquez and Equipo Crónica. Isabelle Taieb Nicolaï, a self-taught French painter, allows her painting to act freely as an expression of the moment; her abstract and figurative paintings give free rein to her sensitivity and she transfers to them her dreams as a child in her moments of play and imagination.
The paintings of the artist Maya Derodt, from Santiago de Chile, reflected the cheerful metropolitan city, painting houses that rather reflect her dreamlike interpretation of how we could live in a metropolis with buildings all in colour.
The Spanish artist José Masías presented very material abstract works and his intention was to surprise the visitor with their chromatic intensity thanks to the enormous amount of color that he deposits on his canvases. He defines his art as visceral and primal and, for this reason, his painting is made with a very dense impasto that makes his expressionism a work without a beginning and an end; His pictorial horizon blends to such an extent that it is impossible to determine where one begins and the other ends. Jairo Molina, a painter from Granada, presented one of his pictorial series dedicated to sculpture.
The Frenchman Kamien Cholewinsky put the finishing touch, closing the range of this new exhibition with his conceptual photographs inspired by his muse, the renowned expressionist artist Alyosha Serafín.
Magazines such as EDDK Magazine, Italian's News, Bianoscuro Art Magazine and Arte por Excelencias, “El Club Nacional del Lujo Español SPAIN PREMIUM”, “Advice Tourism” and “Design Institute of Spain” showed their support for culture and the gallery and Design Week Malaga, the international fair brand that collaborates with the activities of Excellence Art Gallery and the Web Express Guide magazine of Sotogrande.
On November 24th, 25th, 26th, Massimo Cedrini and Giuseppe Carnevale, from Excellence Art Gallery will once again present their new artists in Brussels.
