We have received a number of remarks from readers about the magazine and we have decided to act on three specific points. The most salient was that the size makes it difficult to place on counters and shelves, the second that the cover pages curl under the sun’s heat and they want more magazines. The solution was simple; so we decided to go back to our previous specification when we had no complaints at all. It is a little smaller but certainly larger that A5 with the thicker cover and while all other publications are obviously cutting down on distribution or frequency of publication we are actually increasing our distribution yet again. This is the second time we do so this year. It proves the point that readers do recognise a professionally prepared magazine when they see one. Although we are not extending the area of distribution, we are increasing our readership, which is what advertisers need.

Fruto Noble Sauvignon Blanc Organic Farming Grape varieties: 100 % Sauvignon Blanc. Tasting notes: A fresh, young white wine. It exhibits an attractive bright, clean, greenish-yellow colour. Very complex aromas on the nose, with tropical fruit coming to the fore. Deliciously flavoursome and powerful on the palate with a touch of acidity that brings lovely freshness in the finish. Recommended serving temperature: It should be served cool at around 8ºC.

Small business ownership: Don’t Give Up!!
Stick to Your Guns and Persevere - by Count de la Perrelle Recently I have been quite surprised at the amount of small businesses all over our area who have decided for one reason or another to give up and close down. I understand completely of course that sometimes and for many genuine reasons, it is not possible for businesses to continue. On the other hand, perhaps the financial crisis is now beginning to sort out the wheat from the chaff (or should that be chavs). However, for some genuine hard working people who are struggling to make ends meet, let me say this: Don’t give up on your intentions and ambitions. The financial crisis that we are all suffering will not last and with luck and perseverance we will all come through. Don’t give up on your small business dream! We are well aware of the many ‘fly by night’ operators who are in one way or another, cheating the system and who are possibly claiming at
least some financial perk from either their own Government or a Spanish one. Let me tell you that these people will not last as the cordon of legislation is now beginning to tighten up around them now that the Spanish Government and the local Governments and tax and social security authorities in the European community are tracking down these leaches. Hopefully, they will flee to the hills and disappear. I am aware of one such cafe/bar, now gone thankfully, that opened just for the summer a year or so ago. The owners had no intention of prolonging their stay in the premises but just wanted to make a few bob for the summer months. They were in the bar for around 6 months and apart from the initial rental payment for the first month they paid no further rent. They also did not pay for most of the stock and the utility bills. They had absolutely

BUY OVEN CHIPS no experience in the trade and just used the whole scenario as a way of having a party at their Customers and tax payers’ expense. At the end of the summer they just packed up and left. Leaving the owner and the local suppliers in the lurch. I am sure that a lot of people will be able to relate to that story and no doubt have one of their own. Whether your business is in catering or any other type of business I am positive that you are more than a little p••••d off at the chancers who are making a mockery of your particular type and style of business by not adhering to the local rules and regulations and exposing their lack of experience when dealing with Customers which in turn reflects on similar businesses. The bars, café’s, dress shops, gift shops and other businesses I see who are struggling to make their targets are being thwarted by these sloppy individuals who think they know best and who are not operating on a level playing field. These individuals have no personal investment in making the business work and expect no penalty for failing, they will indeed fail believe me–and extremely fast. They are just playing at being in business, Business today is extremely competitive and competing retailers are working damn hard to make their businesses work. Going into any

marketplace, without the willingness to work hard or invest the time, emotion and money required, they can never succeed. Ian Duncan Smith, the UK Government Minister, has apparently had talks with Spanish Ministers about this subject and yes I think they were talking about stopping some of these foreign benefits altogether. We all know how hard it is at any time to operate a thriving business let alone now with all the difficulties of a financial crisis hurting everyone and with Customers and Clients not spending as much. We have to be hungry competitors and endeavour to outwork and outsmart the Rogues. Do not be greedy and just put prices up willy nilly just because it is tourist time, consider your Customer base and remember that the season is all too short a period and you will need to recognise and to care for your regular Customers for support in the winter months.

NOTICE BOARD After sending a serious complaint to Tripadvisor with warnings of claims for defamation of character, they have removed from their website all the false entries about the Pavarotti restaurant in Sabinillas. Can you imagine having the same false, defamatory messages published in 5 or 6 different languages? No reply or apology was ever received by the restaurant. Is this an admission of guilt or what? Just as they can publish defamatory information they can also publish false praises placed on line by whomever. We can only advise readers yet again to take Tripadvisor with a pinch of salt and all restaurants and hotels should request the removal of their entries from this website which is usurping places in Google positioning with information that isn´t worth a pickle.

Línea Directa Reaches 2 Million Customers and Beats its Profits Record In clearly difficult economic times, with the insurance sector decreasing for the fourth consecutive year,LíneaDirectaAseguradorahas closed 2012 with the highest profit levels in its history: 121.5 million euros before tax, representing an increase of 13% on the previous year. There have been three main reasons for this: the sharp rise in the number of customers, effective underwriting risk management and the improvement of all the company’s processes and services, which have enabled it to reduce expenses without diminishing the scope of the cover offered.
The International Area, a strategic business
As a result, the total number of policies, which since last February has exceeded two million, rose by over 105,000 last year, mainly thanks to the Home Insurance Area, which in the 5 years since it was launched, now has over 230,000 policies without having resorted to mergers or acquisitions.
The International Area is a key strategic factor for LíneaDirecta, through which the company offers its foreign customers totally exclusive services, discounts and offers.
LíneaDirectaoffers its foreign policyholders living in Spain all its services in English and German. As a result, purchasing the policy, making enquiries, dealing with accidents, sending documentation and 24-hour road assistance can all be carried out both in English and German, at a time which suits the policyholder and with only one phone call.In addition,LíneaDirecta’s International Area offers its policyholders a translation service which they can use for dealing with repairers.

Dancing Horses
Right from ancient times as far back as the Celts Iberian Chieftains and the Romans, ownership of a GENET (Andalucian Horse Breed) was the most glorious symbol of power, a tradition that continued and was maintained throughout history by kings and emperors alike. The horse enjoyed the reputation of being Europe’s “ideal horse for war” especially from the Renaissance to the end of the 18th century.
16
www.webexpressguide.com
Changes in cavalry tactics, the disappearance of royal riding academies and the French Revolution of 1789 accelerated the decline of equestrian art in Europe and this magnificent breed would soon become engulfed in near total obscurity for 200 years. The descendants of this horse, now known as the “pura raza espanolaâ€? are well known for their ability to learn the intricate steps of dressage and can be ridden or commanded by a trainer from the ground. The real beginning of the turnaround for the Spanish horse take place at the hand of Alvaro Domecq Romero, a star in the bull ring, who changed the entire equestrian panorama of the PRE in Spain when he founded the Real Escuela Andaluza de Arte Ecuestre in Jerez. While Portugal wish to maintain their own identity with their Lusitano horse, as used by the Military Riding School in Vienna, so does Spain with their Pura Raza EspaĂąola (PRE). Yet I hardly think that horses know the difference between political borders. These horses are sstrongly built and compact yet very elegant. Andalusian horses have long, thick manes and tails and their most common colour is grey, although they can be found in many other colors. They are known for their intelligence, sensitivity and docility. They are the ideal horse for exhibiting some of the most intricate dressage movements, which combined with some of the movements that used to come handy in battle, can now provide a unique performance to the sound of music. The patience and skills of trainers specializing in an outstanding display of pure horsemanship is a memorable experience well worth watching when visiting Andalucia. www.webexpressguide.com

Chef Matthew Academie Culinaise de France
Traditional English Summer Pudding As the warmer weather approaches and the fruits and berries are becoming more and more available in the shops, markets and supermarkets, I thought it was time to offer a recipe for an impressive desert which will compliment any summer dinner party or Al Fresco supper.
Ingredients •
2 tbsp water
•
•
5oz / 150g sugar 1lb/450g washed, mixed summer fruits as available - see note below 4 - 6oz/100 -150g thin sliced white
•
bread, crusts removed Whipped cream or custard
•
Preparation:
1. Stir the water and sugar together and bring to a gentle boil. Add the berries and fruits and stew very gently until softened but still retain their shape. Put to one side to cool. 2. Line a 1½ pint/700 ml pudding basin with the bread slices ensuring there are no gaps. Fill with the stewed fruits and cover the top with more bread slices. Make sure to not add too much of the juices from the fruits. Too much and the bread will lose its shape. There must be enough to soak into the bread though. 3. Place a saucer with a weight on top (a can of tomatoes or beans is ideal) and leave overnight in a cool place. 4. The next day, before serving, turn the pudding out onto a plate and serve with the whipped cream or custard sauce. Note Soft summer fruits suitable for Summer Pudding must have a rich, strong, colour and flavour. Great berries to use include raspberries, strawberries, red and blackcurrants, damsons and blackberries. Other suggestions: You can serve this with creme fraise if you are watching the calories. Why not omit the bread and use sponge fingers or madiera style sponge cut into lengths, or for a rich pudding use brioche bread. You can also put in some other fruits like apples or pears if you want to watch the budget.

I
prickly pair
Ugliness is in a way superior to beauty because it lasts. I wish I had a twin so I can see how I look like without plastic surgery ~ Joan Rivers I am amazingly lucky, blessed as I am with a fabulous figure, even though I eat like Pavarotti on death row, but I appreciate that there are those less fortunate, who will stop at nothing in the quest for “the body beautiful”. I find my tiny frame trembling with horror at the mere mention of the macabre sounding self mutilation on offer. In those enlightened good old days, if you found yourself turning into Hattie Jacques, you adjusted into a few more yards of crimplene and swapped your stilettos for a pair of Hush Puppies. The radical eighties gave dieting a scientific angle, or tried to, with “slimfast”, which really is “Angel Delight” in a tin. The clever Americans who make it had plenty of gullible “Gordos” filled to the gills with the stuff because Uncle Sam told us it was scientifically worked out.
VALERIA LUKYANOVA: Human Barbie 32
www.webexpressguide.com
In the nineties we were shaking our bodies and not our “slimfast”. Every A, B and C list celebrity under ten stone had a “work out” video on sale. Between Jane Fonda “feeling the burn” and the green Goddess telling mature ladies to gently squat, the video shops were full of something ranging from soft porn to the grim reapers P.R.
That is well behind us now. Weight loss, plastic surgery, lipo-sculpture and any number of other unpronounceable tweaking has shot into another galaxy. But thanks to some very glossy, very swanky magazines available close by, all manner of pseudo medical jargon is explained and, if you can’t read, there are plenty of pictures. So many pictures that at one point I thought I was looking at some poor unfortunate’s varicose veins when in reality I was studying a useful map showing a clinic’s whereabouts. I don’t pretend to understand or in fact want to know all the technical ins and outs of plastic surgery but, cosmetic surgery for Ken and Barbie personified aside, plastic surgery does have another face (no pun intended) and has been one area of medicine that has performed some minor miracles for burns victims, birth deformities and all manner of other very worthy, deserving causes. I worry about the beautiful people. Most of them are so pumped full of silicone that topping up the orange tan must be a bit like “Russian Roulette”; how many of them run the risk of ending up as a puddle of melted silicone., when the midday sun hits 100º Fahrenheit? Imagine the poor relatives only being able to identify the body by its Rolex, Mercedes key ring and a set of porcelain teeth! Still, look at the bright side. Funeral costs won’t eat into your inheritance if you can send them off in style in a milk bottle. Some people it seems will go to any length and endure any amount of what must be very painful
surgery just to keep old Father Time and his brother Gravity off the Christmas card list. I for one, will not be visiting any of those Carnal Anatomical Clinics, in fact I am sure some of them are so scary you would be hard pushed to even drag Mulder & Scully into them. On the other hand however, and just for the record, there are the soft option beauty clinics, the ones that don’t offer to turn you into Hannibal Hectors party frocks. If you don’t feel ready to cut off what nature gave you, how about “Chocotherapy”. Something described as “a stimulating and invigorating treatment using melted chocolate, with Brazilian coffee and Madagascar cloves as a base”. It sounds good to me; although I think I would only be going for chocolate rub downs in the winter, unless of course you were thinking of adopting some wasps. So it looks like it all boils down to a choice between looking like a giant ripple or a raw liver lollipop. I know what gets my vote and I, like Marian Faithful before me, I will just have to take my chocolate like a man!

HEALTH & BEAUTY
Enjoy the sun – safely! Following on from last month´s article on skin cancer, this month focuses on sun care. By Sonia Fendley - Director STM Nummos Life Safe levels of sun exposure help our skin to produce to produce vitamin D, which can reduce the risk of developing a number of cancers, but too much sun is harmful and can lead to developing skin cancer.
UV Radiation & the UV Index
In addition to the risk of skin cancer, UVA rays will age your skin causing wrinkles and sagging. UV rays can also damage your eyes. Too much sun exposure may even damage your immune system, increasing your risk of becoming ill.
The sun gives out three types of ultraviolet (UV) radiation: UVA, UVB and UVC. UVC rays can’t get through the ozone layer but UVA and UVB rays can. UVA can cause wrinkles and UVB can cause sunburn and skin cancer. The UV index, shown on weather maps & forecasts, describes the strength of the sun’s UV radiation, the higher the number, the stronger the UV radiation. Depending on your skin type, you might need protection when the UV index is anything over three.
How to protect yourself
•
100 percent UV protection
Short term effects of over exposure
•
UV 400 — this means it protects from both UVA and UVB rays
A suntan means that your skin has been damaged and is trying to protect itself. Your tan will fade, but the damage remains. Even short-term overexposure can cause sunburn, usually making the skin red, hot and painful. Soothe sunburnt skin with general lotions such as aqueous cream, aloe vera lotions or other similar. Severe sunburns may need medical treatment. If you have the following symptoms: a headache feeling or being sick - feeling faint or dizzy - heavy sweating - hot skin - high temperature (between 37 and 39˚C) you may be suffering from Heat exhaustion, overheating after too much sun. Get to a cool place as soon as possible and drink plenty of water. If the symptoms don’t improve, or get worse, you should seek medical advice.Heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke, which can be fatal if it’s not treated. 34
Long term effects
www.webexpressguide.com
The clothes you wear can protect your skin. Close weave materials block out most UV rays. A wide-brimmed hat will reduce the amount of UV radiation reaching your face.Sunglasses help to protect your eyes and eyelids. Wraparound sunglasses protect the skin around your eyes. Choose sunglasses that have the following labels:
Always use a broad spectrum sunscreen which means it protects your skin against UVA and UVB rays. Make sure it has a SPF of 15 or higher. The SPF tells you the effectiveness of the sunscreen at filtering out the UVB rays. UVA protection is measured with a star rating ranging from zero and five stars- opt for one with at least four stars. Apply sunscreen every two hours – and not just when sunbathing. Apply more often if you go swimming, or sweat a lot. Water reflects the sun’s rays so apply sunscreen before swimming.
It doesn´t have to be sunny! Cloud doesn’t stop the sun’s UV rays getting through so protect yourself even if it’s cloudy. Indeed, hazy sunshine can even increase your UV radiation exposure because the rays are scattered.

THE BEST SHOW EVER! Marbella beauty academy visit the N.E.C beauty show 2013 - By Georgia Beck-Davies It’s a major beauty event taking place in the Midlands every year. BeautyUK brings together products, equipment, services and training from the leading Beauty, Nail, Tanning and Spa suppliers, making BeautyUK the professionals’ choice. We were so excited to explore the stands at this year’s exhibition that we just wanted to share with you some of the products we discovered.
Henna Tattooing was the first thing we tried, wow!! So glamorous with blue glitter and diamonds, it took 10 minutes to apply free-handed directly from the tube. I really want to try this myself; there are so many designs to try. It looks beautiful on the feet or palms of the hands too!

Next we went to the Samina Mineral make-up stand, where our make-up was applied by a professional make-up artist using pure mineral make-up foundation, blusher, eye shadow and lipstick all dusted over with a gold fixing powder to finish!...... It lasted so long, 6 hours later our makeup looked like it had been freshly applied and the added bonus for us ladies living in the sun, is that it is waterproof! No more make-up melting off as soon as you apply it!! Very impressed!
We watched Miss England have her teeth whitened, still wearing her diamond tiara, swimsuit and sash! Stunning!
Big rollers were the order of the day, made famous by the only way is Essex crowd, for big smooth hair and moving ceramic plated straightness for conditioning not drying out and splitting hair. Things just keep getting better. We saw nails finished in pink suede, with pearls, diamonds and painted in coffee and cream stripes. The endless nail stands were simply dazzling. Spray tans, sparkle lips, sparkle eyeliner, breast firming and laser machines and the amazing Lycon hair removing wax were all winners for 2013. We are looking forward to taking our students with us next year!

Inferno Dan Brown
Dan Brown’s new novel, Inferno, features renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon and is set in the heart of Europe, where Langdon is drawn into a harrowing world centred around one of history’s most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces. As Dan Brown comments: “Although I studied Dante’s Inferno as a student, it wasn’t until recently, while researching in Florence, that I came to appreciate the enduring influence of Dante’s work on the modern world. With this new novel, I am excited to take readers on a journey deep into this mysterious realm. A landscape of codes, symbols, and more than a few secret passageways.” The thriller, which is published in Britain in May, once again features Robert Langdon, professor of Religious Symbology at Harvard. Langdon was the central character in The Da Vinci Code, which has sold more than 70 million copies worldwide. Inferno returns to the world of 14th century medieval Italy, but this time Brown turns his attention to the writing of Dante Alighieri, best known for his masterpiece, The Divine Comedy. 42

When a mysterious young woman arrives in a small North Carolina town, her reluctance to join the tight knit community raises questions about her past. Slowly, she begins putting down roots, and gains the courage to start a relationship with Alex, a widowed store owner with two young children. But dark secrets intrude on her new life with such terror that she is forced to rediscover the meaning of sacrifice and rely on the power of love.
The last Stand
Director: Kim Jee-woon Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Forest Whitaker, Luis Guzman, Johnny Knoxville, Harry Dean Stanton, Jaimie Alexander. Action
After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Arnold Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy.
Cloud Atlas Director: Tom Tykwer Starring: Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw, Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent. Action/Mystery
Cloud Atlas explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future.

YES IT’S TRUE
HUMOUR I was so ugly when I was born, the doctor slapped my mother. I was making love to this girl and she started crying. I said, “Are you going to hate yourself in the morning?” She said. “No. I hate myself now.” A car hits a Jewish man. The paramedic rushes over and says, “Are you comfortable?” The guy says: “I make a good living.” Two old ladies are in a restaurant. One complains, “You know, the food here is just terrible.” The other shakes her head and adds, “And such small portions.” A man wakes up in the hospital. A doctor says theres good news and bad. The man says tell me the bad first. The doctor says we amputated the other leg, we will amputate the other leg tomorrow. The man grew very sad. The man says sadly after whats the good news. The doctor says see that guy over there he wants to buy your shoes. One day a blonde and brunette were watching a soap opera on television. On the show, there was a girl standing on a bridge. The brunette turned to the blonde and said, “I bet you $5 that she’s going to jump off that bridge.” The blonde agreed to the bet. The girl in the show jumped off the bridge, and the blonde handed the brunette the $5. Then the brunette felt guilty and said, “This is a re-run I already saw, I knew she was going to jump.” Then the blonde replied, “I saw it before too, but I didn’t think the girl would be stupid enough to do it again!”
I was on the subway, sitting on a newspaper, and a guy comes over and asks “Are you reading that?” I didn’t know what to say. So I said yes. I stood up, turned the page, and sat down again. My sister was with two men in one night. She could hardly walk after that. Can you imagine? Two dinners! Two guys are walking down the street when a mugger approaches them and demands their money. They both grudgingly pull out their wallets and begin taking out their cash. Just then one guy turns to the other and hands him a bill. “Here’s that $20 I owe you,” he says. www.webexpressguide.com

PRET A PORTER
Never Underdressed
When it comes to women’s fashion, Europe sets the bar, and Spain is no exception It seems that every woman in Spain is born with fashion sense, as well as the ability to walk for hours in 5 inch stilettos on cobblestones without 44

falling once, with a cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other. Women (and men) are careful about how they dress, making sure to always look nice, as well as being careful about how other people look too. This has had the unfortunate effect of making me care more about how I dress in public. The general rule of thumb is that if you wouldn’t wear it back home, you can definitely get away with it in Spain. The trick is you have to wear it with confidence; women in Spain exude confidence. You must always look nice, ALWAYS! And when in doubt about shoes, wear heels. It is completely normal to see women shopping or buying groceries in high heels. If you go out at night, feel free to go all out.

HoroscopeS Your future as foretold by the Sabinillas gipsy GEMINI
SAGITTARIUS
(May 21-June 21)
(November 22 - December 21)
One way or another, it may be very difficult indeed to keep a steady hand on the financial tiller. You can do it though, and, between 7th and 11th might confront a situation head on and agree more favourable terms.
What could be unsettling are developments between 16th and 20th when disruption that’s quite beyond your control could have impact on savings, your tax position and long-term pension plans.
CANCER
(June 22-July 22)
There’s high probability that a key decision will be taken very soon now. In this instance, decisions arrived at between 9th and 11th could be all important. It might also be that before the end of the month both family and career life will experience disruption.
LEO
(July 23-August 22)
For those born under your sign there is a possibility that domestic upheaval will occur before your birthday this year. The full costs of these changes could be brought home to you before May 20th. On another tack, you may be 100% right in thinking that investing in property now will reap good reward.
VIRGO
(August 23-September 22)
Tempting as it may be to throw even more resources at a project that’s gripped you for months, it might be as well to review the impact this is having on family and domestic life. It may be that the costs are just too high.
LIBRA
(September 23-October 22)
A strong possibility this month is that you might choose to invest in education or in a trip that similarly expands your horizons. Though you may not feel the full reward until closer to your birthday, what’s decided between 9th and 18th should put new wind in your sails
SCORPIO (October 23-November 21)
Though you might feel weighed down by responsibilities and even health issues, it is likely that you’re now ready to relinquish certain duties - or sell items - and that these actions will do much to boost your energy levels.
48

CAPRICORN
(December 22 - January 19)
Disturbance to cash flow seems probable. A solar eclipse offers a ‘fresh start’ however and, with Mars in this same Earth sign, it may be that your expertise is given special value and that freelance opportunities emerge.
AQUARIUS ( January 20-February 18)
Though property issues have been a recurrent theme in Aquarius charts for some time, this eclipse could be the kick-starter into action: possibly involving the start of a sale process. Then there’s a lunar eclipse on May 25th which could mark the conclusion to a long-drawn out matter.
PISCES
(February 19 – March 20)
Financial action is likely at the end of the month. The lunar eclipse on 25th accents the very back-bone of your solar chart and just a few days later (31st) the last quarter Moon is in your sign. All this suggests you’re coming to the end of an arrangement begun about two years ago
ARIES
(March 21-April 19)
A solar eclipse is a sophisticated New Moon promising fresh starts - though it’s not abnormal for these to take nine months to be wholly apparent. What’s suggested then is that a new tempo in your financial affairs will begin this month.
TAURUS
(April 20-May 20)
You may have to put on your ‘financial bovver boots’. All this may be linked to steps take around the lunar eclipse at the end of April. With your financial acumen rising to the surface, coupled with the need to ‘do’ something, you could confront those who don’t seem to be playing by the rules
