Index What’s news

While wishing a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all, I want to extend my thanks to all who supported and encouraged us in the course of the last twelve months. It’s been a year troubled by terrorism, immigration and now also Brexit news that cause some British residents to move back to the UK due to the low value of the pound. There is always hope it may not happen, I hope it does not, it could mean beginning of a dis-United Kingdom. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!

Desearles una Feliz Navidad y un Feliz Año Nuevo a todos, quiero dar las gracias a todos los que nos apoyaron y nos animaron en los últimos doce meses.

You don´t need to be rich to ENJOY GOLF We live on the Costa del Golf, so make the most of it! The concept that Golf is a sport for the rich is definitely the wrong stigma attached to what is a healthy and pleasurable sport that anyone can play regardless of age, sex, fitness or size of bank account.

The academy has two locations one in Nueva Andalucia (near Aloha College) and the other by Atalaya Golf both offering classes at all levels with all the facilities you would expect to be provided by a reputable academy.

This is one of the main reasons why the ENJOY GOLF ACADEMY was launched not so long ago by 4 well known golf professionals.

Although golf courses have now become more competitive here on the Costa, Enjoy Golf Academy have also negotiated special arrangements to benefit all their members with greater reductions.

Their objective is to make Golf accessible to all with an affordable monthly subscription for the use of the facilities and lessons provided by professionals for both learners and players who wish to practice and improve their skill.

HEALTH & SAFETY IN SPAIN What you need to know by

Business Activities have defined different levels of risk, depending on the potential risks of your business there are certain requirements that need to be met

Risk Prevention.

Any company employing people is obliged to implement a plan of accidents preventions at work and other potential risks that may transpire. If the number of employees exceeds 25 it is required that the employer creates a specific department dedicated to risk management. In the case of smaller companies, the risk prevention management aspect can be outsourced to a qualified professional who will supervise along with the company director or business owner the risks and precautions to be taken to avoid accidents. The professional adviser will know the laws 10

www.webexpressguide.com

applicable to risk management in respect of your particular activity and will help you to conform to legislation to avoid civil liability action in case of an incident and of course to prevent penalties and sanctions in case of an inspection. The certification of your risk management consultant is also required even when you offer your services to a larger company, in accordance with article 24 of Risk Prevention Law.

The 3 aspects of Risk Management.

There are risks related to your work place and others inherent to your profession. You will need to assess the first and be trained to handle the second. The 3 main pillars of Risk Management are:

Risk Assessment and proposal of corrective measures.

Training in danger management depending on your field of activity.

Health checks for employees.

An ongoing process.

The aspects of Risk Management mentioned above naturally are an ongoing process. Your Risk Prevention Plan must reflect any changes over time. The medical checks of employees must be done every year and every time a new employee joins the staff.

In the past there used to be no fine if a work inspector found that a low risk company did not have a Risk Prevention Plan. However, this has changed now, and more and more surprise works inspections are carried out to ensure that all companies have an existing Risk Prevention Plan and that they conform to it.

This month the Chef at KOKOMO recommends Classic Chocolate Yule LOG Method • Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6. Lightly •

Ingredients

For the chocolate sponge

• • • • • • •

4 large free-range eggs 100g/3½oz caster sugar 65g/2½oz self-raising flour 40g/1½oz cocoa powder For the chocolate ganache topping 300ml/½ pint double cream 300g/10½oz dark chocolate (around 35-40% cocoa solids), broken into small pieces

For the cream filling

• 300ml/½ pint double cream, whipped To decorate

• Icing sugar, for dusting • A toy snow man or sprig of holly 12

www.webexpressguide.com

grease a 33x23cm/13x9in Swiss roll tin, and line with non-stick paper or baking parchment. For the sponge, in a large bowl whisk the eggs and sugar using an electric hand whisk until the mixture is pale in colour, light and frothy. Sift the flour and cocoa powder into the bowl, cut and fold together until all the cocoa and flour are incorporated into the egg mixture. Pour the mixture into the lined tin and spread evenly out into the corners. Bake in the middle of the preheated oven for 8–10 minutes, or until well risen and firm to the touch and the sides are shrinking away from the edge of the tin. Place a sheet of baking parchment on the work surface, dust with icing sugar generously, invert the cake onto the paper, remove the bottom lining piece of paper. Begin to tightly roll up the sponge using the paper. Roll with the paper inside and sit the roll on top of its outside edge to cool completely. To make the ganache topping, finger-warm the cream in a pan, remove from the heat and add the chocolate stirring until it melts. Put into the fridge to thicken up. Uncurl the cold Swiss roll, remove the paper. Spread the whipped cream on top and re-roll tightly. Cut a quarter of the cake off from the end on the diagonal. Transfer the large piece of cake to a serving plate and angle the cut end in to the middle of the large cake to make a branch. Put the chocolate icing into a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle. Pipe long thick lines along the cake, covering the cake completely so it looks like the bark of a tree. Cover each end with icing or, if you wish to see the cream, leave un-iced.. Dust with icing sugar and garnish with fresh holly or a little robin to serve

MY OPINION

CANCER

CURE OR PREVENTION?

Over the last 60 years, every now and again, I heard of someone discovering the cure for cancer, yet people continue dying of cancer every day.

30

www.webexpressguide.com

Some say that it is the pharmaceutical industry that suppresses such discoveries as it would mean a serious loss of income for them, personally I think it has more to do with certain individuals or companies that want to make some quick money exploiting cancer victims and those who are in fear of

contracting cancer. In my opinion this is the vilest form of exploitation. There is currently a rumour going round to the effect that Dr. Otto Warburg, a German physiologist, was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1931 for discovering the cure for cancer in stating that cancer cannot survive in an oxygen rich or alkaline environment. And here comes the twist, because that is not what he was awarded the Nobel Prize for; the award was based on the fact that he discovered that “low oxygen was typical of cancer cells. His attempts to cure cancer with oxygen actually failed, as he later discovered, it is the cancer process that caused the lack of oxygen and that the main cause for cancer is toxins, not the lack of oxygen. As the cancer develops the affected cells become increasingly acidic, they stop breathing oxygen and utilise sugar instead. If oxygen were to destroy cancerous cells the trick would be to force them to breathe oxygen by introducing oxygen in the cells themselves, this cannot be done by providing an oxygen rich environment or in the blood stream, the cancerous cells just no longer require it. In later years Dr Warburg wrote that he was certain pollution was the cause of cancer.

Dr. Otto Warburg

I believe that cancer has plagued humanity long before we discovered it and officially recognised it, but it certainly made itself be known with the augmenting frequency of its occurrence and if toxins are the main cause, then it makes sense to say that the human race itself has contributed to the propagation of this nasty element. We are using an increasing number of chemical concoctions and compounds to spray on plants, to mix with soil, spray in the air. We create and use other chemical

www.webexpressguide.com

31

MY OPINION

concoctions for cosmetic products, household products, insecticides and pesticides. If this isn’t enough, we also use chemicals as additives in processing food to give it a longer shelf life for the benefit of supermarkets and also to make them more attractive to the eye and the palate, even addictive to some extent. If medications and vaccines are recognised as toxins by the human body, what do you call those fools that keep polluting our environment with the spills of oils and chemicals and idiotic displays and tests of atomic explosions that destroy the environment for years to come? I think also that some serious research should be made on the use of microwave radiation, the easy way to cook food these days. I am certain that all of this does sum up to a massive creation of toxins that our bodies absorb day in and day out through almost all our pores and I haven’t even mentioned the change of climate and ozone layers.

32

www.webexpressguide.com

So what can we do to protect ourselves from cancer? Or indeed from toxins which are clearly harmful cancer or not? Is it possible the humanity has now started another evolutionary process by which we become immune to toxin?

Dr. Otto Heinrich Warburg, and then others after him, did recommend an alkaline diet, foods that are recommended for their cancerfighting properties. Today we know that these, mostly vegetarian based foods, protect cells from damage, encourage normal cell growth and other processes which help fight cancer and other chronic illnesses, whereas meat and other animal by-products have been linked to inflammation, insulin insensitivity, and increased cell division.

Alkaline & Acid-Forming Foods

The American Institute for Cancer Research recommends a vegetarian plant-based diet with at least five servings of fruits and vegetables per day, whole grains versus refined grains and incorporating beans/ legumes more often and meat less often. This would limit the intake of acidic food while providing the body with cancer fighting ammunition. Combining this with some extra oxygen would seem to be the healthy thing to do.

Norovirus

can strike at any time of year. Although it is known as the winter vomiting bug, A press release sent in by Sonia Fendley, director of STM Nummos Life S.L.

“The only good thing about it is that, while it stops intestinal lining cells from absorbing fluids to cause the diarrhoea, it doesn’t actually kill these cells as many bacterial causes of gastroenteritis such as Salmonella or Shigella do. Most people therefore make a full recovery and there’s no specific treatment.”

10 tips on dealing with Norovirus 1. Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration, and even more than you usually do to replace fluids. Try something like Dioralyte to rehydrate. 2. If you are finding it difficult to drink fluids because you feel so sick, try just taking small frequent sips of either water, squash or a fruit juice. 3. Take paracetamol for fever and aching. 4. Stay at home until 48 hours after the symptoms have passed as you will still be infectious. 5. It’s important not to prepare food or have direct contact with others for 48 hours, if possible. 6. Wash your hands frequently, don’t share towels and disinfect any

surfaces you touch as the virus can lurk on these for several days. 7. Seek medical advice if babies, small children or the elderly are affected as they may need help being rehydrated. 8. Seek medical advice if you already have a serious illness, or if symptoms last more than three days. 9. Take a probiotic supplement as this offers some protection against diarrhoea infections - try Super 20 Pro with 20 billion live bacteria 10. If you are zinc-deficient then take supplements to up your levels - zinc supplements have been shown to reduce stool volume and duration of illness, too. www.webexpressguide.com

Marbella Russian Ballet Student is Finalist in Paris Competition Every year, students of the School of Russian Ballet participate in the world’s largest student ballet competition, “Youth America Grand Prix“ (YAGP) This American competition holds semifinal rounds throughout the year all over the world - Japan, China, Australia, South America, Europe and in over 20 USA locations – in order to select the best of the best for its New York City final competition in April. 38

www.webexpressguide.com

The prizes are scholarships to the most prestigious ballet schools, as well recognition by the peers and the professional teachers. In the past, the School of Russian Ballet’s have won prizes placing its students in such schools as National Ballet of Canada School and Royal Ballet School in the UK; this year, the trend continues. Eight students, five soloists and three ensembles, embarked on the difficult journey to Paris for the European semifinals. Naturally, the experience of taking master classes taught by the world’s most revered teachers at the renowned Paris Opera Ballet School is priceless as well as sharing the stage with competitors from all over Europe and Israel, exchanging ideas, learning from each other, observing each other and evaluating your own abilities to set future goals. The competition is fierce; on average one in ten competitors in each category is selected for the finals. And, as always, the School of Russian Ballet students came back with something to boast about: a finalist in the Juniors division and a place in the top 12 Ensembles. Congratulations participants!

Belleza

HIPERBARIC OXĂ?GEN A PREVENTIVE MEDICINE Oxygen is the food of our cells. Oxygen ensures brain activity, the functioning of the nervous system, glands, muscles and organs. It is widely demonstrated in a multitude of medical and health articles and publications that lack of oxygen fundamentally affects the brain because, in the worst of cases, brain cells die without oxygen, and low oxygen saturation causes mental problems, confusion and long-term memory loss. 46

www.webexpressguide.com

Generally speaking, low oxygen saturation causes shortness of breath, tiredness and may even lead to lung problems. To have little oxygen in our blood is an immediate cause of lack of energy. Tiredness and fatigue, lethargy and muscle weakness are some of the immediate effects

If this is what happens with a shortage of oxygen, can you imagine for a moment what wouldl happen to your body if you give it an extraordinary dose of oxygen? Well, this is what hyperbaric oxygen therapy does. Hyperbaric oxygen generates an immediate general well-being effect, it increases the blood supply to all your organs with new and pure oxygen food, it stimulates and strengthens your immune system and making it more able to fight diseases, it stimulates the production of collagen and it generally provides many other benefits to the entire body. Please do enquire with no compromise. The medical consultation is free.

Does the Papal Announcement on Ashes (Cremations) affect you? The first thing to bear in mind is that this edict in no way affects legal and practical aspects of funerals in Spain.

It only impacts the Practicing Roman Catholics, their funereal ceremonies and churches. So, if you are NOT a Roman Catholic and are not going to use Roman Catholic facilities nor the Services of a R.C. Priest this DOES NOT affect you. Also practically all the cemeteries are State or Privately owned and the chapels therein are either ecumenical or non-denominational. If you do follow the practices of the Roman Catholic Church the guidelines established by the church are summarised as follows: You may have the ashes at home, BUT they must be in an area of the house conducive to meditation and respect. Alternatively & ideally they should be placed in Consecrated Cemeteries or Columbaries owned by the church. Private or Public Cemeteries are also acceptable. Ashes may not be scattered, separated or converted into jewellery 50

Do you have

Facebook? What happens with our account when we pass away? In most cases it enters a limbo because we do not know what to do, however there are many options.

The account can be memorialized, this allows visitors to know that the person has passed away and depending on the new configuration may, or may not, leave notices. It is also feasible to designate someone to be the “Legacy Contact” who will administer your account after your passing. Finally you can also specifically instruct that the account be terminated at the time of passing. By the way, the chances are that you also have an email account and other “digital assets” and like “assets” require an “executor”, “digital assets” require a “digital executor”. Your “digital assets” may surely contain much more confidential/delicate information than you imagine, hence designating one’s “digital executor” can be a very delicate issue and foresight is advisable. The term used for those who pass away and have not made provisions for their “digital demise” is “Digital Zombie”.

I

prickly pair

The Spirit(s)( ) of Christmas and office parties

Well as sure as eggs is eggs, the silly season is upon us again and my social diary is groaning under the weight of invitations. It seems that every year my social obligations become heavier due to my reputation as the finest raconteur. Not naturally given to hiding my light under a bushel, I do try to fit everybody in, after all I take my social responsibilities very seriously and would feel mortified if I wasn’t giving everybody a fair crack of my whip. So I would like to share with my adoring fans some of my Christmas shindig, survival secrets. The office party To the aesthetically challenged or IT workers, this is the one time of year that they are almost certainly guaranteed a shag, from the pimply post room boy, to the fat bird, who’s a computer genius, but good for F+++ all else. So how do you survive this clerical orgy, with your dignity and underwear intact? One way is to arrive late, all office parties start with an initial period of standing around, clutching 58

www.webexpressguide.com

a plastic cup of warm, fizzy, supermarket wine and talking b+++++ks, once the ice has been broken however, aided and abetted by Mercadona’s finest, then the real business of the evening gets underway. By arriving late therefore, you will have avoided the poisonous Cava, but still be in time to witness virginal Vera emerging tear stained and deflowered from the gent’s toilets. Other guaranteed delights of the evening will include, seeing your boss half or even fully naked, a 12 stone woman in a thong trying to straddle the photocopier and young spotty’s nipple piercing. Human nature being what it is, come January the second, all memory of the festive, hedonistic frenzy will have been wiped, except perhaps for Vera, who’s leaving in September to become a single mum. The dress code There are no hard and fast rules to the Christmas wardrobe, common sense should prevail. If you favour flat, comfortable shoes for eleven months of the year, then it is only

logical that you are going to fall over if you suddenly start tottering around on heels that only a transvestite would wear. By the same token, if you keep your puppies in their kennel most of the year, then people are naturally going to be a little wary to suddenly see them bouncing about unrestrained. Other common sense tips, Fishnets should only contain fish; sequins should have died out with Liberace and only clowns look good in bright red lipstick. If you have teenage children, avoid, at all costs, the temptation to have a quick shooftie through their wardrobe, there is nothing in there for you and anyway, Ben Sherman shirts look s++t whatever age you are. You must be wondering if this leaves you with anything other than your Birthday suit (well only if you can run the iron over it!) just keep in mind, only dress like a teenager if you are one, only wear a little black dress if you are little (if not try a big black dress) and wrapping a bit of tinsel around your head, does not suddenly turn you into Posh Spice! Cold turkey Now, at some stage during the festive frolics it is inevitable that some well meaning hostess is going to thrust a pre-mauled Vol-Au-Vent under your nose; whilst these people are well intentioned they are also dangerous. Christmas, like Easter is one of those occasions, when women whose usual culinary flair stretches only to grating a bit of cheese over the burnt bits, suddenly believe they have turned into Delia Smith. One way of cutting them off at the pass is to put it about that you are a vegetarian, although this is no excuse to the more determined hostess and you wouldn’t believe what some of those women get up to with a stick of Celery!

Every Christmas the average couple will rush out at the last moment and buy 15 Kilos of Alka Seltzer, in the misguided believe that it is a miracle cure for alcohol poisoning. Now if you drink Gin and tonic, then the chances are you will continue to drink Gin and tonic regardless of the occasion, but I would be willing to bet that you don’t buy Quails eggs in Aspic on your usual weekly jaunt to Mercadona. The point I am trying to make is, that maybe alcohol gets all the blame, when in fact some of the bizarre food, bandied about at Christmas, may well be to blame for the traditional outbreak of puking and headaches, (well that and the in-laws). Aga-do It’s a shame, but the party’s that promise to be the most fun, are invariably the ones you should avoid at all costs. Attending a classy, well organized soirée is one way of getting p++++d for free whilst still knowing that nothing outrageous will happen, but it’s not the kind of place where you will find yourself on the floor, with your skirt around your ears and a complete stranger between your legs singing Oops-Up-side your head and in my opinion is the poorer for it. Fancy dress parties always sound like a good idea to start with, but keep in mind, that if you do manage to pull and end up going home with the dish of the day, then the inevitable outcome is that you will find yourself wandering the streets the next day in search of a taxi dressed as a 42 year old Britney Spears. So the moral seems to be, steering a fine line between having a knees-up, but managing to keep them together! Happy Christmas!

WATCHDOGS 2

DISHONOURED 2

Set within a fictionalized version of the San Francisco Bay Area, the game is played from a third-person perspective and its world is navigated on-foot or by vehicle. Players control Marcus Holloway, a hacker who works with the hacking group DedSec to take down the city’s advanced surveillance system. There are multiple ways to complete missions, and each successful assignment increases the follower count of DedSec. Cooperative multiplayer allows for competitive one-on-one combat and connecting with other players in order to neutralize a player who is actively causing havoc.

The series takes place in the fictional Empire of the Isles with the majority of Dishonored 2 set in the coastal city of Karnaca and is set fifteen years after the events of the first game. After Empress Emily Kaldwin is deposed by an “otherworldly usurper”, the player may choose between playing as either Emily or her bodyguard and father Corvo Attano as they attempt to reclaim the throne. Both Emily and Corvo employ their own array of supernatural abilities. They can alternatively decide to forfeit them altogether. There are a multitude of ways to succeed in each given mission, from stealth to purposeful violent conflict.
