editor page Although we depend on advertising revenue, after 17 years of publishing Web Express Guide, I have come to realise that it is our attitude that has kept us going over the years. We work with clients; the advert is just the result, the flower that is born out of our aim to help the client succeed. The advert in Web Express Guide is more than an advert it is a recommendation to consumers, which we even emphasise with our OK sign. Of course not everyone understands this and this is probably the reason why we seem to be selective in our marketing strategy. We always welcome any constructive suggestions of improvement from users and readers please tell us at editor@webexpressguide.com

whats news
Did you know that..? Reading books no longer in vogue. When the Royal Society of Literature asked almost 2,000 people if they were able to name an author, 20% said they couldn’t think of one. 25% had not read a book in the past six months. Evening Standard Prices rising faster since the Brexit vote. Prices in the UK are rising faster after the EU referendum, says Sky News, increasing at an annual rate of more than 3%. Meanwhile, new figures suggests real wages may be falling by 0.6%, compared with the 0.9% growth rate indicated by official reports. The news is seen as further evidence that households are being squeezed as a result of the referendum result. The Times UK population to pass 70 million mark ‘in less than a decade’. The UK’s population will pass the 70 million mark in under a decade, official projections show. Demographers expect the landmark to be reached by 2026 as the number of people living in the country steadily increases. Natural growth - more births than deaths - and net migration helped push the estimated UK population to a record 65.1 million in 2015, a rise of more than half a million on the previous year. Daily Mail Living standards show ‘weakest growth in 60 years’. Living standards are experiencing their weakest growth in 60 years, with low-income families bearing the brunt, the Institute for
Fiscal Studies says. The thinktank also says average household income will be 18% lower in 2021-22 than if the 2007 crash had not happened. The Observer Pop singer Taylor Swift has become the youngest person ever to make it onto Forbes’s 100 most powerful women list. The 25-yearold makes her debut at number 65 and is among 17 women under the age 45 to appear on the list. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is number one for the fifth year running, with Hillary Clinton. The Times Tackling obesity is a major priority the government has said, as a report warns that one in five cancer deaths is caused by it. The alert came at the world’s biggest conference on cancer, which sounded the warning that obesity is killing tens of thousands of people a year in Britain - and the West is about to see it replace tobacco as the leading preventable cause of the disease. The Times U2 lead singer Bono is the only person in history to be nominated for an Academy Award, a Nobel Prize, a Grammy and a Golden Globe. BBC Facebook is the second most visited site in the world after Google. It boasts 1.23 billion active members every month – roughly one sixth of the human population. Metro

ROTARY CLUB ESTEPONA
STOP PRESS As we have gone to print on the same day as the V Carrera Urbana of Estepona, it has been impossible to report with photos of the event and in particular winners. However, we can report that on the 2nd April the 10 kilometres marathon has taken place with more than 1,000 participants running through the streets of Estepona. This year with the additional introduction of the shorter course of 5 kilometres for younger participants organized by the Rotary Club of Estepona, all the youngsters received medals and a set of dental care. This healthy event is becoming a tradition of Estepona with music and all people joining the participants in a happy fiesta. The aim of the Rotary Club is to encourage the repetition of a healthy, sporty event in a family atmosphere embracing all ages.

my opinion
The
Pharmaceutical Mafia. By Count de la Perrelle
I, like many others, have to take various medications which I am told enable me to enjoy a pain and discomfort free life and after chatting with a dear friend of mine we considered the number of tablets we get given for one thing and another. For example: blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, etc. etc. I am wondering if these medications are more intended to finance the pharmaceutical industry rather than curing me.
So it got me thinking......Are the Pharmaceutical Companies creating medications just to keep us alive causing us to buy more medications ad infinitum. I know it is a long shot but bear with me.....Let’s face it, every day we are subjected to a huge amount of advertising by the pharmaceutical industry whether it is a general pill or a substitute for some home therapy. All this is mixed in with pitches for a particular drug— usually featuring super lovely people www.webexpressguide.com
11
Maybe big Pharmaceutical companies do not want to find cures for diseases.
‘Darlings’ enjoying themselves in the great British outdoors with an abundance of energy.
Is it a ploy to make us live longer to pay longer? I do understand completely that we all need more and more advanced medicine, innovative equipment for medical research and modern knowledge. I also realise that people are living longer now than they ever did before, I just ponder if it is a ploy to make us live longer to require more medication. It has also been suggested that drug companies develop medicines that they can easily profit from rather than creating medicines which are likely to be most beneficial to everyone. No doubt if confronted, the big Companies would tell us that prescription drugs are expensive, and then go on to tell us how valuable they are. I can also hear them go on to say that their research and development costs are enormous and go on to explain how much we need them. I understand that as ‘research-based’ companies, they do turn out a steady stream of innovative medicines that, we are informed, lengthen life, enhance our quality of life and are intended to avert more expensive medical care. Apparently we are the beneficiaries of these ongoing and fantastic achievements of these huge companies, so we should just pay up and shut up. Well I am not so sure about that! 12
www.webexpressguide.com
Is it possible that these huge money making drug companies do not want to find and cures for diseases? There are often various statements on News media saying a cure for cancer or some other horrific disease is imminent. Maybe they already have some cures but are being governed by the monetary beast and keeping quiet because they would rather make more money through chronic treatment regimens? It makes one think. After all what possible reason would they have for finding cures for diseases when the main profits come from the pills and potions that any patient has to take over a period of time.
The elderly are the ones that need prescription drugs For obvious reasons, the elderly tend to need far more prescription drugs. Usually for chronic conditions like Arthritis, Colitis, Crohns, Diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated blood pressure and more. Many Senior Citizens do have difficulty in affording some prescriptions in some countries. Insurance does and can help but that only goes to further feed that money beast! Sometimes patients are over medicated by some medical experts and often given profitable drugs with little benefit. No wonder that the NHS has been accused of failing to stand up to the pharmaceutical giants. I understand that it is certainly true that our modern global lifestyle-related diseases like cancer and others I have already mentioned, are horrible killers but the simple fact is that more and more people are living long enough to develop cancer because of our success in tackling
my opinion
infectious other diseases and historical causes of death such as malnutrition. It’s perfectly normal for DNA damage in our cells to build up as we age, and such damage can lead to cancer developing. According to my local Cancer hospital Surgeons whom I interviewed we are not able to diagnose cancers far more accurately, thanks to scans, screening, imaging and pathology.
It is still big money The cancer industry is making hundreds of billions dollars a year, but I have looked into this and in my opinion it is still unclear why an actual cure is nonexistent. I am aware that many people are trying to find the cure for cancer, yet to this date it is unknown.
Corruption does not help During the past few years various drugs companies have been accused of ‘robbing’ the British NHS. They have been using a loophole to push the price of drugs up by phenomenal amounts. Sometimes as much as 2000%, costing us taxpayers millions of pounds per year. At least 15 drugs have
substantially increased in price after being “flipped” from one firm to another, according to information obtained by doctors. The legal “scam” has prompted outrage from the British Medical Association. Basically, the practice involves Drug companies selling on medicines used by the NHS to other businesses outside the Governments price regulation scheme. Then they can mark up however they wish!
To end on a more positive note. Cancer’s Achilles’ heel has been pinpointed by British scientists, raising hopes of a revolution in treatment – and even a cure. In future, patients could be given bespoke therapies that hunt out and destroy every single cancer cell, wherever it is in their body. The first people could be treated in as little as two years apparently and eventually, everyone from those in the early stages of cancer, to those who are riddled with the disease could benefit. A spokesman for Cancer Research UK, which funded the landmark study, said that if it lives up to its promise, ‘it could prove a revolutionary way to treat or even cure www.webexpressguide.com

All little girls
want to be ballerinas!
The admiring audience of parents and envious friends follow their every move, cheering and supporting. At the School of Russian Ballet, we can make these dreams come true, and little girls’ dreams need to come true, if only to help us raise healthy, strong and successful women.
Maria Isakova, the teacher responsible for these happy transformations, specializes in working with young children. She holds two dance degrees, in dance education and choreography. She has attended numerous seminars on child psychology, music and dance educations, pedagogy and methodology. And, with over twenty years of experience in this field, she makes a welcome change from the usual practice in many dance schools of delegating entertaining the youngest students to an inexperienced teenager. Madam Isakova is a real teacher.
The youngest of our students are 3 years old. They get to dress up in their favourite tutus, play games, and learn to listen to the pretty music, exercise their fingers and toes, bang on tambourines to their hearts’ content and admire themselves in the huge ballet mirrors. After the long day at a preschool, they often arrive tired and moody, but they leave with the widest smiles and colourful stickers to celebrate their effort and success.
What a pleasure it is to watch the transformation of our little ballerinas when they learn to govern their flailing limbs, when they discover the joys of following a musical rhythm, when they acquire the habits of discipline and hard work, and of course, when they live their ballet dreams!
All little girls want to be ballerinas, prancing on their tippy toes, twirling with the arms raised prettily above their heads, whilst wearing a pink tutu and a sparkling crown.

Heat the olive oil in a large lidded pan and fry the onions, carrot and celery for 4-5 minutes, or until softened. 3. REAL NEAPOLITAN
PIZZA IN SABINILLAS
There are many pizza places on the Costa, only a few restaurants serve a decent pizza, unfortunately the majority of the others have little or no idea of a what proper Italian pizza is.
Do not be guided by the cheap price of a takeaway pizza, the real ingredients for a good pizza are imported from Italy and not usually found in a supermarket. Taste the difference!
To start with the flour, the main ingredient has to be the right one, the sauce has to be prepared, it does not come out of a tin of triturato, fresh yeast for the dough and substitute mozzarella type cheese is just not good at all.
The new pizzeria VESUVIO, in Sabinillas, import every ingredient direct from NAPLES, the home of pizza. We wish them every success in their endeavour to show everyone what a real pizza looks and tastes like, aroma aside. Of course fresh pasta is also available. www.webexpressguide.com

Losing Your Teeth? Did you know that gum disease is the major cause of tooth loss in patients over 40 years old? The progression of the disease is slow, and you may be unaware of its onset untill it is too late. – Art. provided by Dr. Anders Friman of the Dentist in Sotogrande.
Your mouth is full of bacteria, some are harmless, but some coat the teeth and become plaque. Left alone, plaque hardens and becomes tartar. Tartar not only looks unsightly, but contains toxins released by the bacteria and these are the toxins that attack the gums.
the time when brushing and begin to recede. As the gums recede, pockets begin to form between the tooth and the gum, creating a perfect nesting place for more bacteria to enter, settle and muliply. This leads to bigger pockets, and a larger portion of the tooth becomes exposed. Eventually the tooth will get weaker and unsupported, leaving no alternative other than to extract it.
The first stage of gum disease is known as gingivitis. During this stage the gums become red, swollen and sore, and may bleed when brushing.
Looking after your gums is so easy. Simple and regular oral hygiene, such as brushing and flossing daily, combined with dental check-ups every 6 months will not only keep your gums healthy but will stop, even reverse any gum disease that has already started.
In the second stage, known as PERIODONTITIS, the gums become redder, more swollen, very tender, bleed all
So give yourself something to smile about, take care of your gums, and visit your dentist regularly.

What have eggs got to do with Easter? The English word Easter, though it has come to designate a Christian holiday, actually takes its name from the pagan festival of Eostre, goddess of spring, and has roots deep in AngloSaxon mythology. Easter is also timed to coincide with the Jewish feast of Passover. It comes like a breath of spring, marking the return of the planting and lambing seasons. For the Christian world, Easter is the commemoration of Jesus resurrection, observed on the first Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox, which can fall anywhere between March 22 and April 25 and, this year, Easter Sunday is on the 16th April. But for those who love food, it is also a holiday associated with chocolate, painted eggs and big family meals. It is customary early on Easter morning for children to get up and search the house for eggs and other treats left by the Easter bunnyÂ… the eggs and the rabbit both are ancient symbols of fertility and springtime rebirth. An egg's shape is fascinating. The tradition of decorated eggs goes back to the furthest reaches of history, because since time immemorial the egg's shape has symbolized fertility, life and renewal. In the Middle-Ages great egg processions were held, occasions to celebrate the season of renewal and rebirth as nature awoke from her long sleep. www.webexpressguide.com

Other sources say that the egg symbolizes the four elements of life: the shell represents the earth; the membrane, air; the white, water; and the yolk, fire.
egg designs in the baby's cradle. On a more practical note, however, the use of eggs for Easter may well be attributed to the fact that chickens do not fast for lent.
In Chinese custom, nothing is as effective in bringing luck to a newborn as numerous
A strong wave of piety ran through chicken farms from the 4th century onwards, leading to the custom of giving eggs on the first Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox - a rather less spiritual way to celebrate Christ's resurrection throughout Christendom. Why? You may ask. Simply because the church forbade the consumption of eggs during the forty days of fasting that proceeded Easter, but since chickens don't observe Lent, they continued to lay! Thus by Easter morning, people found themselves with a large quantity of eggs making it necessary to share the surplus by giving them away. A basket full of fresh eggs is a nice gift - but when coloured and painted with figures and designs, they became true presents: beautifully arrayed and designed to give pleasure. Every country and every era has had its particular styles. Traditions have not evolved

in the same way from one region to the next, although one thing remains the same: on Easter morning eggs of varying colours are exchanged, whether among Egyptian Coptic Christians of the 10th to 12th centuries, or the inhabitants of Alsace in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Luis XIV
In the year 1200, under England's King Edward I, the royal ledgers showed an expense of 18 pence for the purchase of 450 eggs that were decorated with gold leaf before being distributed to members of the royal household. The gold-covered eggs brought wealth to those who received them. This royal custom was still in evidence 500 years later when Louis XIV of France institutionalized it. His people were required to bring him the largest egg laid in the kingdom during Holy Week, while on Easter Sunday the king himself, surrounded by large baskets, would personally distribute gilded eggs to both his courtiers and menials. Later on, eggs became used as currency and every year churchmen would go through the streets of Paris, baskets on their arms, to collect their ecclesiastical dues. It was not until the 18th century, in France, that someone came up with the idea to empty out a fresh eggshell and fill it with chocolate. Then came moulds, decorations and many delicious traditions. In France, when children hear the bells on Easter morning they set out into the yard to hunt for Easter eggs… or for chocolate chickens hiding in the shrubbery! Here it's the bells that bring sweets to good children, hidden under their wide iron or bronze skirts, as they ring out their pride at having been blessed in Rome on this holy day. However they are not the only emissaries: in the Tyrol it's a chicken, in Switzerland a cuckoo, and in Anglo-Saxon countries, a rabbit. The tradition of the chocolate bunny has had a long evolution, beginning with the ancient Teutons who firmly believed that at Easter it was the rabbits' turn to sit on eggs. The rabbit-Easter-chocolate associations derive from this popular tradition. I can’t see the local supermarket accepting payment in eggs of any kind, as here in Spain the chocolate egg does not seem to be part of the Eater tradition and can only be purchased from specialized foreign managed shops. www.webexpressguide.com

IT’S SPRING TIME MANAGING YOUR ALLERGIES
Extract taken from BUPA Global health advice provided by Sonia Fendley, director of STM Nummos Life An itchy, blocked or runny nose, sneezing and streaming eyes are all uncomfortable symptoms caused by common airborne allergens found in and around the home.
•
Managing your allergy is a key way you can take control and stop it affecting your everyday life. First, it’s a good idea to identify what you’re allergic to. Do your symptoms happen at work or at home? Or, do they happen at the same time each year – if so, it could be hay fever. Once you know what you’re allergic to, there are some things you can do yourself to feel better.
•
Allergens are caused by proteins, substances that are found in all living things. When your body comes into contact with one that you’re allergic to, you get an allergic reaction. Your body releases antibodies, which trigger the release of a chemical called histamine. This is what sets off your symptoms.
House dust mites are tiny creatures that live in curtains, carpets, mattresses, pillows and duvets. They are almost impossible to get rid of completely, but there are things you can do that will help.
Hay fever
•
Hay fever is caused by grass, tree and weed pollens. These tend to pollinate throughout the spring and summer months.
•
Short of staying inside, you may feel like there’s no getting away from it. But try these tactics to help reduce your symptoms. •
Try not to walk in grassy areas in the early morning and during the evening and night. Pollen counts are at their highest at these times.
•
• •
Ask another person in your family to mow the grass, or wear a mask. Keep the windows closed in your house and car. You could get the pollen filters changed in your car, if you have them. Take a shower to wash off the pollen after you’ve been outside. Wear wraparound sunglasses to help stop itchy pollen getting into your eyes. Apply some petroleum jelly around the inside of your nostrils to form a protective barrier.
House dust mites
•
• •
Choose a wooden, tiled or linoleum floor over carpet if you can. Replace your curtains with blinds that you can wipe clean. Wipe all surfaces weekly with a damp cloth. Use synthetic and acrylic bedding, and fit your mattress and pillows with dust mite covers. Wash your bedding in hot water every week. You could also tumble dry your sheets for 10 minutes on the ‘hot’ setting. If you have them, vacuum your carpets every week. Just be aware that this can stir up allergens in the air for about 20 minutes, so if possible, ask someone else to vacuum and stay out of the room or house until the air settles. www.webexpressguide.com

ARTHRITIS ARTRITIS
How to stop arthritis pain, how to cure arthritis or osteoarthrosis, treatment for arthritis Cura para el dolor, como curar el artritis o artrosis All pathologies ending in "itis" mean inflammation of whatever precedes it, therefore arthritis means joints’ inflammation, these inflammations may be due to various causes such as a badly cured trauma, traumatic arthritis, because of an operation, arthritis postsurgical, because of psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, because of an inflammation of the vertebrae, spondylitis, or, for a still unknown reason, rheumatoid arthritis, the most serious of all because it is degenerative and if the inflammation causing the pain is not treated, it will continue to degenerate the joint until it can no longer move. A typical example of rheumatoid arthritis is in the hand’s "burst", a departure outward from all phalanges of the hand as seen in the image. Our “thermo-percussion” treatment is most suitable for treating these afflictions, both arthritis and osteoarthritis in the hands. Because the joints are small, the microwave’s heat transfers to all joints and the light impact perceived by the percussion is deeper too, as a result re-capillarization and maximum regeneration of the joints occurs within the possibilities of each patient. 42
www.webexpressguide.com

¡Si me siento joven!

The mammography
SAVES LIVES! The importance of an annual mammogram beginning at age 40 By the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Unit at HC Marbella International Hospital
In the European Union one of every 8 women suffer from breast cancer, being the number one cause of death from a cancer disease in women aged between 35 and 55 years. While the number of cases and incidence 52
www.webexpressguide.com
rates slowly increase, mortality figures drop, largely due to a better outcome of treatment and early detection. Our primary purpose, therefore, is to encourage image techniques and clinical
care appropriate for each woman based on her personal and family characteristics of risk for an early diagnosis of malignant breast disease. Today, approximately 25% of cases of breast cancers occur in women under 50 years and in Spain under 5% of women have had a mammogram before that age. It is this age, a time of change in women that is our main concern and we want to focus on.
Aim to save lives: The advice on screening programs We consider it necessary to advise each woman what are the tests that exist for the detection and when they should be performed. It is essential to make society aware of the importance of carrying out a proper clinical examination of the breasts and teach how to perform breast self-
examination as well as provide information on the benefits of participating in a program of early detection of breast cancer. Professionals at the Breast Unit HC Marbella International Hospital unite its concern for one of the most common diseases in women, breast cancer. Therefore, our Unit has specialists in radiology, pathology, oncology, gynecology, plastic surgery and physiotherapy, in our belief that the multidisciplinary teams can offer the best quality diagnosis and treatment. Our goal is prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer.. From HC Marbella we encourage you to attend gynecological consultations where we can advise you for proper monitoring Breast Health.

prickly pair
What
Now I can fully appreciate that we are all different, and there are those less fortunate than myself (being blessed as I am with exquisite taste) who may look forward to shedding their winter coat with trepidation. Fashion sense, or should I say that certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ is something we are born with and it is not given to every individual to instinctively know what is right. Let’s take the British, for example, now there is no other race on god’s earth with such an inflated opinion of themselves and every far flung corner of the world has at least one little colony of Brits, who for some reason think it is their moral duty to tell Johnny foreigner how to run his country. 58
www.webexpressguide.com
Fashion Sense? The bigoted opinions of such fellows are all encompassing and the Brit abroad wastes no time in voicing (loudly) all the faults of the country he has chosen to invade. This would be all well and good if Englishmen abroad were all like James Bond. But no, instead you will have a 40+ year old, with a professional beer belly, wearing an England shirt and a pair of Asda jeans! I can only think that such men, or even women come to that, either have no mirrors in their homes or they are in possession of a magic mirror. This wearing of football shirts by anybody over the age of, let’s say six years old, is not only embarrassing to well-adjusted English folk living in a foreign country, it is also an indication of a certain lack of self-identity by the wearer and a need to run with a pack, shows absence of confidence as an individual. The same can be said for designer labels and sportswear with giant logos splashed all over them, the only message these are giving out, is that you don’t have any personal preference and that you probably drive a mid-priced Ford. Love them or loath them, the elder members of the British royal family are blessed with superb taste, this does of course come from centuries of platinum credit cards and a lifetime of driving around in Bentleys, but the fact remains, you will never see QE2 sporting a nylon Bradford city shirt! It is not just the British male who shuffles around like a scruffy y b*****d, English women are just as bad as their Geezers and what you see is what you are always going to get from women who spend a lifetime of worship at the temple of Burberry.. Perhaps I am being a little hard by just singling out the Brits, every country has its fashion victims after all; so let’s have a roundup of some of the others. Americans are still the world’s biggest wearers of Crimplene, so much so in fact, that if the whole of America were to get undressed at the same time, they would generate enough static electricity to fire up New York for a couple of months. The French are never truly happy unless they are dressed up like a bar code. The Australians live in sandals all year, because they don’t make shoes wide enough to accommodate their web feet. The Germans all dress like the Walton’s. The Italians wear everything in their wardrobe at the same time; and as for the Spanish, well, let’s not even go there! www.webexpressguide.com

INJUSTICE 2
SNIPER GHOST WARRIOR 3
After the defeat of the High Councilor, Batman and his insurgency attempt to piece society back together while struggling against the remnants of Superman’s regime who seek to restore his rule. Meanwhile, a mysterious new group, known as “The Society”, emerges and makes plans for world domination, eliminating any heroes that stand in their way. With several of his allies either victims of, or collaborators with, Superman’s failed regime, Batman is forced to form a new team of superheroes to combat The Society.
The game takes place in modern-day with a series of conflicts between three hostile factions. A proxy war and a civil war in Georgia also begin. Players take control of American Marine Captain named Jonathan “Jon” North as he proceeds to Georgia to find and eliminate its intruder, with whom he shares a dark past, in order to prevent another Cold War.

CAR OF THE MONTH:
JAGUAR XKR CONVERTIBLE
With the 2010 model XKR, the “tuned” version of the car, Jaguar has really buttoned things down, making the car a serious rival for former family members in the Aston range as well as AMGtuned Mercedes SLs and the BMW M6. It’s basically the same thing Ford has done with its 2010 Mustang. Jaguar says it believes fuel efficiency is be high enough for the supercharged V-8 to become the first 500-plus horsepower engine not charged a gas-guzzler tax in the U.S. 66
