editor page This has been one of the coldest winters I have experienced on the Costa del Sol, but then I do believe it’s been the same almost the world over. The cold, combined with the severe flu of an almost epidemic nature, has certainly caused some nuisance to which we are not accustomed. Still, it is certain that spring and the better weather will soon be upon us with the promise of a great year ahead of us. Easter Sunday, on the 1st of April marks the start of the season, which would appear to be one of the busiest so far. II think people everywhere will be craving for the warmth of the Costa’s sunshine.

WHATS NEWS
Building your own home
in Marbella & on the Costa del sol
As
the popularity of the Costa increases the availability of properties diminishes, therefore you may decide to build your own home or extend your existing one as a good measure for investment. My recommendation is that it is advisable to obtain the services of a reputable architect or project manager who assumes the guaranteed ressponsibility to ensure that costs and building time are not exceeded over agreed budgets, as for example a reputable firm like Matecno S.L who do this all the time.
6.
In any case we list below some words of advice which you may wish to consider:
8.
1.
If you are buying land make sure it is classed as “urbano”, where the planning regulations zoned for development are clear. Avoid land which is classed as “rustico” without first getting some professional advice.
2. 3.
Make sure you have enough land for a useful size garden.
Check the Mains Services. Make sure your plot has all the mains services provided or confirmed.
4.
Financial Viability. Satisfy yourself that the value of your finished development will exceed costs. This is where you need your project manager.
5.
Beware of approximate building costs. You need to know exactly what it will cost you. A few days delay in completion or a small miscalculation on materials can the difference between make or break.
6
www.webexpressguide.com
Make sure you design for Energy Efficiency to save on heating or cooling costs and to improve the value of the property.
7.
Find a Project Manager or Architect that understands what you want. He will prepare and present you with a choice of options designed to be within your budget. He will also show you evidence of his previous projects as a reference to his expertise and experience.
Get the Solar Orientation right. When considering plans, make sure that you will have enough shaded areas to combat the midday sun whilst ensuring you have enough light.
9.
ALWAYS use professionals. There is no room for misunderstandings because these can be costlier that you expect. I recommend a well-established firm with a substantial portfolio to support his experience and one that will guarantee to make good for any deviation from the budget. Also preferably one that is by the different planning departments in the council offices. Avoid the cowboys under all circumstances, real cheap can be real expensive. Do it right and you will have a home that complies with regulations, that will give you years of enjoyment in a mild climate by the Mediterranean and most of all that will represent a good investment because the demand for properties of this nature continues to be on the increase.

Did you know that..? How many more can we feed? UN projections suggest that the current global population of 7.6 billion will rise to 8.6 billion in 2030 and 9.8 billion by 2050. Furthermore, the expanding middle classes of countries such as China are increasingly opting for the sort of high meat diets that were once the preserve of the West. The UN expects global meat consumption to rise by 70% between 2010 and 2030, three times faster than the rate of population growth. Daily Mail Where are the stock markets heading? Global stock market indexes ended 2017 at a record high after a year of continued loose monetary policy and high corporate profits. In America, the S&P500 was up 20% on the year, Germany’s Dax 13%, and the French market up 10%. In the UK, stocks rose 7% – the more modest uptick reflecting concerns over Brexit, and weak growth in GDP and wages. The Observer Poll of the week. 53% of 18- to 24-yearolds say they send thank you letters for the Christmas presents they receive – a higher proportion than any other age group. Only 42% of over-55s, and 40% of 45- to 54-yearolds, send them. The Telegraph Donald Trump, a dangerous mind? With 2018 barely under way, Donald Trump has already bragged about his big nuclear button, threatened to withdraw aid to both Pakistan and the Palestinian Authority, and bizarrely even by gold-plated Trumpian standards - taken credit for US air safety. Trump has also set off a firestorm of questions about his mental state, with The Atlantic magazine yesterday calling 8

Liverpool, the city of my birth, has been described as the “world’s kindest city”, after hundreds of people left stranded by a devastating car park fire on New Year’s Eve were offered accommodation and lifts home by local residents. The fire swept through the seven-storey car park next to the Echo Arena, destroying 1,300 vehicles. Many drivers had to abandon their cars and run for their lives. The Observer. YOUR BUSINESS TIP THIS MONTH Many managers worry about how to retain top talent without breaking the bank. The good news is that even with the most sought after top talent, research shows non-monetary rewards can be more appealing than high salaries. Here are three things you can provide that often rank equal to or higher than compensation: Be flexible. Offer employees flexible arrangements, such as remote work options, staggered hours, or condensed workweeks. Focus on recognition. The best people want to feel appreciated for their hard work. Whether in a private email or a public venue, acknowledge your peoples' good work. Develop a culture that values results, not just face time. Set the example: Take time out during the day to go to the gym or see your child perform in a play, and encourage employees to do the same.

RECIPE
The Chef at KOKOMO says
Pancake As pancake day is looming, I thought it would make a change to have a traditional recipe as not many people actually make pancakes on pancake day, so this is a slightly healthier version. I have used wholemeal flour, low fat yoghurt, skimmed milk and fresh berries. Great if you are still dieting from Christmas, and if not it’s delicious anyway INGREDIENTS • • • • • • •
14
125g/4½oz wholemeal plain flour 1 free-range egg 300ml/½ pint skimmed milk 1 tsp olive oil low-calorie cooking spray mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries) 4 tbsp low-fat yoghurt
www.webexpressguide.com
METHOD 1. Place the flour into a bowl. Beat the egg, milk and oil together, then slowly add to the flour. 2. Stir the mixture until a smooth batter forms. Leave to stand for about 20 minutes, then stir again. 3. Spray a non-stick frying pan with oil. When the oil is hot, add 2 tablespoons of the pancake mixture and shake the pan so that it spreads. 4. Cook the pancake for 2 minutes, or until the underside is lightly browned. Turnover and cook the other side for a further minute. 5. Keep the pancakes warm while you cook the rest. The mixture should make 8 pancakes in all. Divide the pancakes between 4 plates, top the pancakes with the mixed berries and yoghurt and serve.

“Mens sana in corpore sano” Is what the ancient Romans used to say. However these days the reverse may be more appropriate and say that a healthy body keeps a healthy mind. It is a known fact that you are what you eat therefore it seems logical to say that you are as healthy as the food you eat. Healthy eating starts with learning to train yourself to new ways of eating, such as adding to your diet more fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and cutting back on foods that have a lot of fat, salt, and sugar. A change to healthier eating also includes learning about balance, variety, and moderation. •
•
Aim for balance. Most days, eat from each food group-grains, protein foods, vegetables and fruits, and dairy. Listen to your body. Eat when you're hungry. Stop when you feel satisfied. Look for variety. Be adventurous. Choose different foods in each food group don’t get stuck on one thing only. Eating a variety of foods each day will also help you get the nutrients you need.

•
•
Learn moderation. Don't have too much or too little of one thing. All foods, if eaten in moderation, can be part of healthy eating; yes, including sweets. Drink water. Generally speaking 1.5 litres of water per day is recommended. Of course, you can drink alcohol in moderation, as a matter of fact a glass of red wine a day is said to improve your circulation.
Healthy eating will help you to get the right balance of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients and you will benefit from plenty of energy and handling stress better. Some diseases such as: • • • •
Heart disease. High blood pressure. Type 2 diabetes. Some types of cancer.
are frequently the result of bad eating habits. Healthy eating is not a diet. It is a way of life, it means making changes you can live with and enjoy for the rest of your life.
Diets on the other hand are temporary. Whilst dieting you give up eating a lot to reduce the intake of calories with the result that when you diet, you may be hungry and think about food constantly. And, at the end of the diet, you may also overeat to make up for what you missed. Eating a healthy, a balanced variety of foods is far more satisfying. And if you match that with more physical activity, you are more likely to get to a healthy weight-and stay there-than if you diet. Get your mind to set on a healthier way of life. First, think about your reasons for healthier eating. Do you want to improve your health? Do you want to feel better? Are you trying to set an example for your kids? Do you want to live longer? Next, think about some small changes you can make. Pick ones you can keep doing.
22
www.webexpressguide.com
Don't try to change everything at once. Set an easy goal you can reach, like having a salad and a piece of fruit each day. Make a long-term goal too, such as having one vegetarian dinner a week. If you live with a partner, getting his or her support represents a huge help. The more support you have, the easier it will be to make changes. Ask family and friends to practice healthy eating with you. Have them help you make meals, and share healthy, delicious recipes and cooking tips. These are just general guidelines given to promote a healthier way of life, preventing disease and maintaining or losing weight If you need more help, talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian. If losing weight is your main concern, the following are some good suggestions: Reduce the number of calories you eat daily. Eat smaller portions and do not increase the size of meals at fast food restaurants.
Eliminate all sugar-added drinks from your diet. You can drink 100% fruit juice, unsweetened, but limit servings to one or two a day. Drink more water. Decrease the amount of time spent in sedentary activities, especially watching television. Use your screen-free time working on hobbies, house cleaning, gardening, or engaging in fun activities. Get moderate physical activity such as walking, bicycling, swimming, or using aerobic exercise machines for 30 to 60 minutes a day, at least five days a week. Do muscle strengthening and toning exercises at least 2 or 3 days a week.

HEALTH
There is a lot of “gripe” about! This month we give some useful information about influenza. Influenza “La Gripe” is a virus attacking the respiratory route effecting the upper and lower respiratory tracts. Although sporadic cases can occur, in general the more severe cases appear in the autumn and winter months Transmission usually occurs via aerosols generated by coughs and sneezes, although hand-to-hand contact may take place. The incubation period is from 1 to 4 days and the onset is usually quite abrupt which can give the following symptoms:
Fever, chills, muscular pains, headaches substantial soreness, occasional nausea, general indisposition, sore throat, nasal blockage, dilated pupils, flushed face, redness to the eyes. The mortality rate caused by influenza outbreaks continues to be substantial and pulmonary disease as well as old age are the highest risk conditions. The majority of casualties have an underlying disease that places them at high risk for complications. Influenza can cause a secondary bacterial infection. The interaction is bilateral with sometimes bacteria activating the flu virus resulting is Acute Sinusitis - Otitis - Bronchitis - Pneumonia. Pneumonia is the most common complication and can progress with persistent fever, dyspnoea and eventual cyanosis.
24
www.webexpressguide.com
Patients with influenza prefer to rest in bed; analgesic and cough medicines can help to relieve the symptoms, however sometimes the use of antibiotics may be needed but they must be prescribed by your doctor. As a preventive measure, the flu vaccine provides partial cover (about 85%) for a period of a few months to up to 1 year, that is because the antigenic configuration changes yearly and it is based on prevalent strains from the preceding year. immunity is achieved in about 2 weeks The vaccine is highly recommended to the over 50’s, asthma sufferers, nursing home residents, chronic lung disease sufferers, heart disease sufferers and health care workers as well as children/teenagers receiving chronic aspirin therapy, the side effects are rarely a slight redness or tenderness at the point of injection. In recent years a new kind of vaccine has been developed to protect from pneumonia and it provides partial cover up to 95 % of efficacy for a period of three years. If you have not been vaccinated yet, you may still be on time at the health centre or make use of your SANITAS health insurance and ask a private doctor.

WHATS NEWS
Do you still believe in Tripadvisor? How to fake and make a restaurant the best or the worst restaurant in town. Our readers will already know our opinion of Tripadvisor, however we could not resist highlighting this deliberate “pack of lies” aimed at proving the point that you just cannot believe what you read on Tripadvisor. “The best restaurant, the worst restaurant, fantastic service, excellent food, very expensive, terrible service, and so on.” True or false? Who Knows? And if you do not know you cannot believe, if you do you could be very disappointed. Can you imagine someone saying: “If you do not give me a free meal I shall write a bad review on TripAdvisor”? Well it seems it actually does happen just as one person can make a fake restaurant become the top spot in London. 26
www.webexpressguide.com
WHATS NEWS
Hard to believe? Well, look up the article on the Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, the Washington Post and even the ITV News interview that you will find on Youtube just as the video showing how it was done. "The Shed of Dulwich” is exactly what it says, a shed in a garden. Oobah Butler, a writer for VICE, decided to prove the point by creating a fake restaurant in a garden shed, “an appointment-only restaurant located in south London”. His friends began posting five-star reviews and the Shed climbed Tripadvisor’s ranks, the phone started ringing. Six months after creating "The Shed at Dulwich" website and propping a fried egg jauntily against a bare foot, they were, according to Tripadvisor, the best restaurant in London. The realistic photos of burrata and scallops, and miniature chocolate soufflés and something clever with an egg were rather appealing, except they’re shaving foam, toilet bleach blocks and a sponge covered in instant coffee.
Whenever the phone rang for a booking, the caller was refused the reservation under the pretext that they were fully booked for weeks. The big draw of the Shed, of course, was the combination of excellent reviews and the impossibility to get a table. And this made it the perfect restaurant. I wonder how many restaurants feel proud of displaying their Tripadvisor certificates now that a garden shed is stated as the “BEST RESTAURANT IN LONDON”. Can you imagine how many thousands restaurants there are in London? An exact diagnosis makes personalized medicine a reality It is now more effective to differentiate precisely each type of cancer by the type of genetic mutation that causes each type. Today we know more about cancer than we could have imagined. Due to the advancements made in the study of such mutations, traditional chemotherapy is more frequently replaced with therapies specific to each type of change to the DNA. Identifying the mutations in the genes can provide information about the type of tumor that each patient is suffering from. This is key These tests offer molecular information to precise and personalized diagnosis and obtained through the analysis of the genome treatment, thus enabling targeted therapy. of tumors and the identification of the specific treatments already authorized or in Targeted therapy uses medications specific to clinical trials for each patient, resulting in: the underlying DNA mutations that cause the tumor, which is a more effective and less • Maximum precision in the therapeutic toxic therapy than the traditional treatments. decision for each cancer patient. THE BEST CONSUMERS’ MARKET ON THE COSTA is the middle represented by high level consumers who need to know you
To be known on the Costa you need to advertise your message all the time because PEOPLE COME AND PEOPLE GO CONSTANTLY Too many social media pages with announcements of short duration are time consuming for limited exposure.
Unless you can afford to advertise on National Radio and Television Channels your audience is limited to a few locals and only sometimes.
Unless you are as well known as Johnnie Walker or Pepsi Cola driving past large signs on the roads is not the answer.
Too many cheap publications promoting illegal businesses, leaflets and means to save money cannot have the desired effect on the desired market.
PRINTING IS YOUR BEST ANSWER BUT... Newspapers are expensive, they are not designed to target/reach your desired consumer, they do not represent the quality of your business and they mix your business with too many others including competitors.
Quality, expensive looking magazines are a good option but the cost is high and they do not justify the return.

MY OPINION
The Flat-Earth BELIEF Some people make others believe that our planet is flat. By E. Gladstone
One thing that I have noticed lately is that some people say they believe the Earth is flat, stating that the Global Earth is nothing more than a deception created by governments to hide a greater scheme that will unfold in time. So much for all those that were burnt at the stake for saying that the Earth was round and for Christopher Columbus who risked all including his life to prove that the Earth is Round, followed by Amerigo Vespucci and everyone else, including you and me.
These people do not seem to listen to reason or to scientific evidence, which makes me wonder weather they are lunatics or whether they have a perverted sense of power in trying to convince others or scare others into believing that something ominous is afoot. The fact is that this make believe is mostly done via videos on YouTube and social media. What amazes me is the number of people that actually fall for it and even start preaching this crap.
www.webexpressguide.com
37
THAT’S LIFE
There is not an ounce of scientific evidence to substantiate this ridiculous theory and I am asking myself why some seemingly intelligent people would actually support this theory. I decided to write this article for my own and the readers’ protection from this deceit and to provide scientifically proven evidence that we are just a race of humans living and moving about on a sphere suspended in the void which we have named the universe. While they say that Neil Armstrong never landed on the Moon and that the whole thing was staged by the American Government I would like to ask them if they have ever had a good look out of the window of a plane. Flat Earth believers claim that Antarctica 38
www.webexpressguide.com
isn't a continent, it's a giant wall of ice surrounding the flat disk Earth and that noone has ever crossed the whole continent. The fact is that people have and still do. They also claim that the Earth is flat because pilots don't need to constantly dip the nose of their plane down to follow the curvature of the planet. How ridiculous! Planes do not travel on a straight line, instruments on board, such as the altimeter, ensure that the correct distance is maintained in following the curvature of the Earth. If the Earth is flat does it mean that when a boat disappears on the horizon it has fallen off the edge? The horizon may look flat but if you start to climb as high as you can you will start to see that the horizon curves.
MY OPINION Flat-Earth theorists gathered in North Carolina for the 1st Flat Earth International Conference (FEIC) aimed to "reveal NASA space lies," and to bring together like-minded people who think that the world is flat. Around 500 people from various parts of the world attended the conference in Raleigh city, paying a $249 entrance ticket per person.
All NASA photos of the Earth and other planets are fake! Well, isn’t it strange that It was the Soviet Union that stunned the world with the launch of Sputnik, the first satellite ever? On October 4, 1957, the USSR put into orbit a tiny sphere with a radio transmitter that beeped its way into history. NASA were able to take picture of the Earth as early as the 1940’s and as a good measure look up the photos taken by the Apollo 17 crew in 1972 “Blue Marble” Earth. Can you imagine saying that the satellites launched into space don't orbit the Earth? Tell that to all those that relied on satellites to watch their favourite TV programs. These are but a few of the claims that are made to support the Flat Earth Theory, I am
glad that they do call it a theory because the reasons they give are not facts but childish assumptions using childish statements that seem to be designed to pervert the truth and even people. As I have said a load of crap on YouTube and social media, false news, false information that contributes to creating a mass paranoia. In my opinion something should be done to filter this type of perverted made-up knowledge to prevent it from reaching the public at large and also making it illegal to publish or attempt to publish fake information unless it is clearly stated to be false using severe punishment as a deterrent, because it can ruin the life of those who believe it.

THAT'S LIFE
Decided to spend your last days on the Costa? This has been one of the coldest winters in Europe making the climate of Costa del Sol the perfect place for retirement. Relatively mild winters and hot summers with the added bonus of some fresh Mediterranean Sea air is most certainly difficult to resist as a place where to retire. Everyday life can be a pleasant way to spend the rest of one’s life, not forgetting the abundance of fresh food and the cheapness of drinks by comparison and the friendly attitude of the locals. Unfortunately, everything is this life comes to an end, time passes, we grow older, things change and we start thinking about what comes next, especially if we find ourselves living on our own.
No, there is no need to rush back to your own country, that could be rather traumatic; the answer is very simple:
“call me, talk to me, tell me. My name is Leslie and nothing would please me more”. My number is +34 646 19 43 77
I am available 24 hours or If you prefer send me an email at leslie@camero.es
We may have health insurance but if we don’t the Spanish National Health Service is certainly very efficient for all residents yet the one thing they cannot provide is the comfort of talking to someone that can give you peace of mind as to what comes next, when no-one is around to help you leave behind this wonderful gift of life. This is why it is important to talk to someone, explain your circumstances, express your wishes, point out the limits of your budget and your fears because these may well be the questions the answers to which can make the rest of your life more enjoyable and peaceful.

FINANCE
Expenses difficult to justify: Travel, Hotels and Restaurants
By Limit Consulting
You may need to visit a client in another town and need to stay overnight. Or perhaps you need to attend a course, a seminar or a fair in another country. What expenses can you include in your books? The following are excluded from this benefit: Any expense needs to meet the following two criteria to be included in the books.
Let’s not mention that a 2 day-course does not justify a hotel bill for a 7 days of stay.
1. Ordinary and necessary. It must be related to your business activity and necessary, i.e. a carpenter can claim for a hammer, an accountant…hardly.
•
2. There must be a proper invoice as documentary proof to support the expense, with all the relevant information.
How much is the expense
The reason for the expense. In certain cases, as the one we are showing below, point 1 above needs to be demonstrated unequivocally. That is, in case of an inspection by the tax office, the proof to be supplied is of the type that would normally be accepted in a court-room (well documented). Should your travel expenses be easily confused as personal, you will need to provided documents that prove the reason for your trip. For example:
44
•
A contract signed during the visit, or an order sent by the client shortly after can justify the need for a visit.
•
An invoice for attending a seminar, showing the dates in which it was held, can justify the travel and hotel fees of those days.
www.webexpressguide.com
Emails exchanged with your client commenting the need for a visit, or setting the appointment can proof that your trip was done for business purposes.
There is a limit to the amount you can spend on dinners and accommodation per day. If the expense exceeds the limit the invoice is still valid but can only be deducted up to that amount. Remember, if you provide a weak reason, or in any other mean fail to be convincing, the inspector will take away the expense and apply a penalty for incorrect tax deduction, beside claiming the unpaid tax. PRET A PORTER
¿Cómo se logra el look parisino perfecto? ¿tomas nota? TRENDENCIAS

Buying & Running
an English Bar on the Costa
Are you feeling the urge? It’s a known fact, and I am sure there is a scientific term for it, that the average hard working “Brit” reaches a certain age and suddenly develops an almost obsessive urge to buy and run a bar in Spain. The more intelligent push this obsession to the back of their minds and content themselves with merely looking up a few bargain buys such as “a goldmine” or “an excellent investment” Spanish bars on eBay. There are however the weaker willed, slightly crazy, daft b*****ds who actually go out and buy one! Before you know it, that cockroach ridden, fly infested, health hazard on the corner, that Jose has been trying to pass on to any gullible twat since Franco turned up his toes, has suddenly become the newly named, no expense spared, latest new “English Bar” in town. Back in England, if you want to own or even just run a pub, licensed hotel, wine bar or in fact any premises that require a full ‘on licence’, the law requires that you attend a whole plethora of courses and drinks 58
www.webexpressguide.com
licences are no longer given out willy-nilly. Quite stringent checks are carried out on anybody applying, so if Sweeney Todd can no longer get a licence to run a public house in England, the devil still rides him/her to become ‘mein host’ and it’s only natural that his/her thoughts will eventually turn to little Britain on the Costa del Sol, Spain. To be fair, there are a few British bar owners here, who ran pubs back home, on the whole these people make equally as good a job of it in Spain as they did in England, but for every professional landlord there are always three ex lorry drivers, hairdressers or road sweepers chancing their arm at it. The first and most obvious obstacles encountered by these entrepreneurial halfwits are the language, buying the bar, doing it up, getting fliers printed and finally throwing open the doors to the hordes of well behaved, pay for every round, go home quietly customers you are sure you are going to get. All of this can be done without having to utter a single ‘por favor’.
PRICKLY PAIR
However, sooner or later, a Spaniard or two are going to wander in, order a ‘wikky’ and cover your new floor in sunflower seeds. Well, this is Spain, after all! The very sight of a Spaniard should not fill you with fear. Mind you, fair play for the professional landlords who join a course in the Spanish language and, eight months down the line, although he will always sound like a p***k, he will know his way around a ‘wikky’, if a Spaniard should happen to stray in to his delightful little watering hole. Some also make a success in introducing a regular quiz night and sticking at it. A number of English bars have tried this in
the past and given it up after a while, staying with it can make it the busiest bar on a set day. At times I put down part of the success to the man himself who perhaps, shall we say is not the most patient of men, and, you know the old adage “I don’t come here to be insulted”, well I am convinced that most patrons actually do! So, what’s the moral of all this? If you can’t fight the urge and do buy a bar in Spain enrol in a training course before you get here, learn Spanish and provide your customers with some form of entertainment or take a leaf out of Mr Angry’s book , be very, very angry! www.webexpressguide.com

EA SPORTS UFC 3
Battle gigantic monsters in epic locales. As a hunter, you'll take on quests to hunt monsters in a variety of habitats.

New to the series is the G.O.A.T. career mode, where the choices made throughout the career impact the player's path to greatness.
Take down these monsters and receive materials that you can use to create stronger weapons and armor in order to hunt even more dangerous monsters.
