The Costa el Sol is meant to be a peaceful resort for the full enjoyment of the sea, the sunshine, the good food and the entertainment that is on offer.
No hay duda de que el verano ha llegado, las sombrillas en la playa parecen crecer como los champiñones. Hice un pequeño recorrido por el paseo marítimo la otra noche y me sorprendió la cantidad de gente caminando y sentada en los numerosos restaurantes y bares. No, no solo españoles visitando la playa sino de todas las nacionalidades, y esto es solo Sabinillas. Leí en algún lugar de los medios británicos que España está desanimando a los visitantes del Reino Unido, esto no es verdad, pero sí, España está decidida a desalentar a las personas ruidosas y mal educadas de cualquier nacionalidad que no aportan ningún bien a la zona a expensas de las familias y bien hacer visitantes y residentes. La Costa el Sol pretende ser un lugar tranquilo para disfrutar plenamente del mar, el sol, la buena comida y el ocio que se ofrece.

Vegan cuisine can help reduce excess weight An increasing number of people are turning to plant-based diets in hopes of shedding excess weight. While there’s no guarantee that a vegan diet will lead to weight loss, there may be some good reasons to give it a try. Many observational studies suggest that vegans tend to be thinner and have lower body mass indexes (BMIs) than nonvegans. In addition, several randomized controlled studies, the gold standard in scientific research, report that vegan diets are more effective for weight loss than the diets they are compared with (Trusted Sources). Findings include: A small study found that people eating a low fat, high fibre vegan diet lost more weight than those eating a conventional low fat diet. Participants following a vegan diet lost an average of 13 lbs (6 kg) over 16 weeks, while those following the Mediterranean diet did not see any weight loss. Vegan eaters also lost more weight in a study than people who included meat or fish in their diets. Vegetarians lost just as much weight as vegans in this study. When comparing a low fat, whole food vegan diet to a standard omnivorous diet over 16 weeks, the vegan diet resulted in an average of 6 kg of weight loss. People eating their regular diets did not experience significant weight loss.). What’s more, a small study comparing the weight loss effects of five different diets concluded that vegetarian and vegan diets were just as well-accepted as semi-vegetarian and standard Western diets. Even when study participants weren’t following the diets perfectly, the people in the vegetarian and vegan groups still lost more weight than those on a standard Western diet. Overall, more studies are needed to understand which aspects of a vegan diet make the biggest difference when it comes to weight loss. Whether a diet is vegan or not, many factors can affect how well a weight loss diet works, including: fibre content calorie levels eating whole foods versus processed foods

A VEGAN ICECREAM Pistachio flavour ice cream, perfect for summer. INGREDIENTS
* 250 ml of vegan cold cream frêche * 200 gr of vegan condensed milk * 70 gr of pistachio paste.
Instructions 1. The condensed milk mixes well with the pistachio paste. Mix the liquid cream until a cream is obtained (it does not need to be very hard). 2. The condensed milk and pistachio paste mixture is added to the mixer bowl over the cream and mixed lightly for a further 2 minutes together. 3. Pour into a bowl and top with chocolate chips and toasted pistachios on top. Refrigerate for a few hours.

SWIMMER'S EAR With the arrival of summer and swimming outdoors, one of the most common ear conditions is swimmer's ear or acute otitis externa. This mostly affects children but does also occur in adults. When swimming in the pool or sea, water enters the ear canal leaving moisture that can lead to the growth of bacteria. This can trigger inflammation in the outermost part of the ear (the outer ear canal), this is known as swimmer’s ear.

The most common symptoms are pain, discharge, spiking fever and even hearing loss. Babies may also be inconsolable, crying and irritable. Although the main risk factor is spending time in the pool, excessive and aggressive cleaning of the ears can also encourage swimmer’s ear to develop, as earwax is the protective barrier that prevents the growth of bacteria. To diagnose whether you have otitis, the ear, nose and throat surgeon will take your medical history and perform an examination of your ear canal using an otoscope. If otitis is associated with hearing loss, audiometry may also be advisable to establish to what degree. The usual treatment for otitis externa is 7-10 days of topical antibiotic drops plus anti-inflammatory medication for pain. While you are suffering from otitis, or if you suffer from it on a recurrent basis, you should prevent water from entering your ear - swimming earplugs are the best solution for this. Unfortunately, otitis does not only occur during the warm months, it can also be a problem during winter when acute otitis media is the more common condition. Otitis media is often a complication of a cold due to the accumulation of mucus in the middle ear facilitating bacterial growth. When the build-up is excessive the eardrum can become punctured, the mucus then drains out of the ear. The most common risk factors for developing this type of otitis include being under two years of age, nursery attendance, absence of breast feeding, upper respiratory tract conditions, exposure to tobacco smoke and immunodeficiency. The symptoms and methods of diagnosis in acute otitis media are similar to those in acute otitis externa, however, treatment is different. Oral antibiotics are usually taken for 10 to 14 days, although discomfort normally improves after a couple of days. Nasal decongestants and mucolytics may also be necessary. When a person repeatedly suffers from otitis media, the ENT surgeon will assess the need for drainage to facilitate the removal of accumulated mucus. HUMANS HAVE BEEN EXTINCTING LARGE ANIMALS FOR A MILLIOn AND A HALF YEARS New data indicates that early humans have always hunted the largest animals available to total extinction over the past 1.5 million years. According to a UN report , human activity over the past two centuries has pushed more than a million species to extinction in recent decades, but humans are responsible for the sixth major mass extinction since much earlier, according to a new Telaviv University study on hunting practices of early humans 1.5 million years ago. The study shows that humans always hunted the largest animals available until they became scarce or extinct, and then moved on to the next largest available. When only small animals remained in their environment, then humans began to domesticate animals and develop agriculture. The researchers hypothesize that technological advances throughout human evolution were driven by the need to hunt smaller and faster animals. According to the authors, “Since the arrival of mankind, humans have always devastated their natural environment, but they have also found solutions to the problems they created. However, the damage to the environment was often irreversible.

HUNT TO EXTINCTION, FROM THE LARGEST TO THE SMALLEST The researchers say that, at any given time, early humans preferred to hunt the largest animals available in their environment, which provided the largest amounts of food for a unit of effort. The study, unprecedented in its scope and duration, presents a comprehensive analysis of data on animal bones discovered at dozens of prehistoric sites in and around Israel. The findings indicate a continuous decline in the size of animals hunted by man as the main source of food: from giant elephants of 1-1.5 million years ago to gazelles of 10,000 years ago. According to the researchers, these discoveries offer an illuminating picture of the interaction between humans and the animals around them during the last 1.5 million years. Study director Jacob Dembitzer considers the southern Levant (Israel, Palestine, southwestern Syria, Jordan and Lebanon) to be an 'archaeological laboratory' due to the density of prehistoric finds. In a relatively small area, evidence of the presence of humans is concentrated, starting with Homo erectus , who arrived 1.5 million years ago, through Neanderthals , who lived here from an unknown time until they disappeared about 45,000 years ago. , to modern humans, who arrived from Africa in several waves, starting about 180,000 years ago. The results of the study indicate that a third of the bones left by Homo erectus in sites dated approximately one million years ago, belonged to elephants that weighed up to 13 tons (more than double the weight of the modern African elephant) and provided humans with 90% of their food. ANTOLOGÍA DE POESÍA MANILVEÑA
Llegué a este bello municipio de Manilva hace ya dieciocho años por motivos laborales, ya que comencé a impartir Lengua y Literatura españolas en un Centro Docente de la localidad, y me quedé por amor, para compartir Poesía, Cultura y Vida con Carmen Sánchez Melgar, con la que he cosechado ya muchos libros, tantos suyos como míos, desde entonces. Por lo tanto, acabo de cumplir la mayoría de edad como manilveño, aunque, bien saben lo que me conocen que tengo un pie siempre en Algeciras, de la que no me he desligado nunca pues allí está mi familia, mi ateneo “José Román” y muchos colegas de versos y metáforas, además de una legión de amigos. La primera poeta a la que conocí en esta localidad que está formada por tres núcleos poblacionales: Manilva, Sabinillas y el Castillo, fue, por tanto, Carmen, cuyo nombre, por cierto, significa poema en latín – toda una premonición-, pero pronto fui conociendo a otros muchos poetas y aquí están en esta antología que he titulado “Raíz de verso”.

Y es que todo pueblo que se precie tiene la obligación de mimar a sus poetas y a sus artistas en general. Por ello me he sentido en la obligación de coordinar esta I Antología de Poesía Manilveña que creo que se convertirá en una obra de referencia en el municipio. Así que, basta de preámbulos, queridos lectores, busquen por las librerías y bibliotecas de nuestro municipio este libro antológico y pasen y vean, lean y disfruten y luego debatan y comenten porque hay poemas para todos los gustos y de todas las índoles: los hay oscuros y los hay diáfanos, los hay breves y extensos, optimistas y pesimistas, de amor y de desamor, clásicos y transgresores, rimados y libres, cultos y populares, atrevidos y conservadores… Y es que, como en botica, tiene que haber de todo en una antología que se precie. Y ya sabemos que en todas ellas no están todos los que son, pero sí son todos los que están o eso intentamos.
