In an emotional closing, the Costa del Sol International Fantastic Film Festival concluded its latest edition after 25 years, establishing itself as a cultural reference in the region thanks to the relentless work of the Unicorn Association, led by Julio Peces. For more than a decade, Casino Marbella has been a loyal sponsor of the festival, actively contributing and celebrating the highly anticipated closing party at its premises each year.
This constant commitment was highlighted on September 8, when the Casino, along with other collaborators such as the Benahavís City Council, represented by councilman Ignacio López Álvarez, and the Estepona City Council, represented by Mayor José María Urbano, among others, received a significant award
Casino Marbella is proud to have provided its support and to have had the opportunity to be part and host the event. Under the theme How Great Cinema Is!, the Casino's gardens were transformed into a cinema gallery with no detail overlooked. The atmospheric lighting, a photocall recreating a film set, posters recalling classic movies, and a popcorn stand immersed the over 200 guests in a unique cinematic experience
The night came to a close, making the crowd dance to their renditions of famous movie soundtracks. To finish the evening, each guest took home a themed cinema glass and a personalised deck of cards as a memento

When did you first realise your passion for cooking, and where did your culinary career begin?
Well, the truth is that my passion for cooking started when I was working in my parents' family business, Agustín and Bárbara's, where I worked as a sales representative for products like fish, seafood, and frozen goods. As part of my job, I was always going into kitchens and talking to the chefs of each restaurant to offer them all kinds of products, and that’s when I realised i was memorised by the way they worked. At age 26 I decided to go to Ireland. While in Ireland, I got the opportunity to pursue a vocational degree in culinary arts at the Bellamar School in Marbella, where I have to thank the directors, Antonio Flores and Carmen Sánchez, for opening the doors of their school for my future training.
What do you find most exciting about being a chef in Marbella, and how does the region’s culture and atmosphere influence your cooking style?
I'm really passionate about everything, but what I love most about being a chef is the day-to-day experience where you're running around, laughing, working under pressure, but above all, enjoying each day There are so many things we continue to learn even today I have to thank Executive Chef Víctor Carracedo (Meliá Don Pepe) for everything I keep learning from him
With autumn upon us, are there any special seasonal ingredients or dishes we can look forward to seeing on your menu?
Well, autumn is a season where we can start enjoying many types of local food It's the season for boletus, chanterelles, and níscalos, among others Just with those ingredients, we can create a crazy variety of flavours and thousands of recipes
We also have seasonal figs, which can be used to make a fig carpaccio with aromatic and citrus notes. Additionally, at Meliá Don Pepe (Erre), we have a special menu every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning where you can come and try it during lunchtime
How do you stay creative and come up with new dishes?

RUTH ÁLVAREZ, POETA COLOMBIANA AFINCADA EN MANILVA

Allí escuché por primera vez de su propia voz sus primeros poemas, que me parecieron agradables al oído con su melosa voz que aún conserva matices de Colombia, su país natal, con una cadencia musical muy marcada, pues a ella le gusta aprenderse sus poemas de memoria para que el tono no sea el monótono que empleamos todos los que leemos, sino una cantinela mucho más marcada, más libre de ataduras, más musical. Y el contenido de sus composiciones me pareció cristalino y también exótico y misterioso.
Me sorprendió que sus poemas fueran largos, narrativos a veces, muy barrocos en el léxico empleado, con gran profusión de vocablos cultos y poco utilizados por los que nos dedicamos a hacer versos, los temas eran los universales: el amor, la muerte, la esperanza, la paz, pero había un acento propio, un tono distintico muy reconocible en todo lo que leía que me llamó poderosamente la atención
También me agradó que acompañara la lectura de sus poemas con sus temas musicales favoritos desde su móvil, lo que le daba más magia a la recitación y más calor al evento Este poemario que acaba de publicar que lleva por título Tatuando el atlas de mis sentimientos ha sido elaborado sin prisas, pero sin pausas, con sangre, sudor y lágrimas y mucho esfuerzo y dedicación, con muchas horas de trabajo, venciendo a ese demonio terrible que es la sensación de que todo se confabula contra ti y que algo te dice que no publiques ese libro.
Sé que Ruth ha sufrido mucho en este proceso de dos largos años hasta ver publicada su ópera prima, pero sé que a partir de ahora va a disfrutar sobremanera en las presentaciones que organice, en las lecturas de sus poemas y en encuentro entre poetas, de esos que tanto le gustan, pues, ella, consideraba que una poeta sin libro era menos poeta, que una escritora sin libro no podía llamarse escritora propiamente dicha todavía y yo le decía que no, que no se ofuscara, que poeta se siente desde la escritura del primer verso, desde la sensación imperiosa de sentarse a escribir lo que se siente en el corazón y en el cerebro.
Ahora, por fin, Ruth Álvarez tiene su libro en ristre y, orgullosa, lo llevará allá donde vaya porque la poesía está impregnada en su piel y en su carne, y sabe que es la llave que abre el alma de par en par y deja abierta las puertas de los sentimientos más profundos, de las vivencias más escondidas, de los más íntimos recuerdos. Enhorabuena porque has llorado cada verso de esta obra, porque has sangrado cada metáfora, porque has sudado cada poema.
