ADVERTISE IN LIFESTYLE MONTHLY MAGAZINE AND REACH OUT TO OUR LOYAL READERS It’s the most wonderful time of the year!! Hurray it’s Christmas!!!!!! Forget the recession, forget the economic gloom and just concentrate on the magic of Christmas. I love December, the dark days give me an excuse to plug in the fairy lights- the tree goes up on the 1st December and stays up until Boxing Day night when I am ready to take it down. I love all the treats in the shops, the racks of goodies and aroma of expensive perfumes tempting me into the stores. I love the crackling fire in the lounge, the blankets on the sofa and hot chocolate with marshmallows with the husband and the kids. I love walking through the city and hearing the same cheesy Christmas tracks in the shops, I love the twinkling of the high streets and the general buzz of excitement in the air. I love the panto season (Oh no I don’t, oh yes I do) It’s a time of reflection too - What a year it’s been for Lifestyle Monthly, we’ve hosted the Lifestyle Awards with Ruby Wax, we hosted Liverpool Fashion Week, which brought us national creditation and we have established ourselves as one of the top regional magazines for Merseyside. We have bigger and better events planned for next year, we can’t wait! It’s been an incredible journey and I must give special thanks to my right hand man, Neil Woods, who has proved himself as an invaluable member of the Lifestyle team. Thanks must also go to you, our beautiful readers and of course our lovely advertisers. I hope we can continue to raise your profile in this fabulous city. Where else can you be seen in train stations, hotels, retail and leisure outlets, business receptions and supermarkets? So what festive treats have we got in store for you? We dive in to Rick Vaughn’s Christmas stocking and see what he’s expecting from Santa this year. We also chat to The Bees and if you're thinking of having a party we show you one with a difference on the latest fashion and beauty. Model and fashionista Jade Ainsworth has all the inside news. We are offering one lucky reader the opportunity to transform their body with the Bodyline Clinic in Crosby- and we will feature you in our magazine! If you still haven’t sorted out your presents check out our guide to the best stocking fillers on the high streets. So as we come to the end of the year and I have to thank my lucky stars that I have such a brilliant job to report on all the parties, news, events, celebrities and fashion for this incredible region. It’s like having all your Christmases come at once. But for now, though, I will concentrate on this one….. whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, Al-Hihira or Winter Solstice, December is time of celebration…..so enjoy. Peace, love and best wishes to you all xxx

Celebrity Interview
Radio City's not-so-shy DJ, Rick Vaughn has had a successful year... we chat to our columnist and favourite Liverpool socialite How do you feel to be on the front cover? Excited, that after being an award winning columnist for nearly two years with Lifestyle magazine, there is still a massive thirst from the readers to see and read more about me. What has been the most memorable event for you this year? This year has been a real whirlwind and without doubt none of it would have been possible without the whole team that work tirelessly on my behalf. However for me the most memorable moment has to have been in filming and winning “Come Dine With Me”. What an absolute hoot!
What do you want to get for Christmas? I love Christmas and for me, gifts I really like are the little things that cost next to nothing, but you just know someone has put a lot of thought and love into it. What have you got your eye on? Personally, I would love an I Pad You’ve interviewed some incredible people, who has been the nicest? Without doubt “Scouting For Girls;” it’s very rare in this industry that you meet anyone who you actually can call a true friend but these guys are, by far, my best showbiz friends. Have you received any early Christmas presents : I’m just back from my spiritual home in Los Angeles where I received an entertainment award from all the folks in West Hollywood. That was a true honour. How will you be spending Christmas : Working! Yes even on Christmas Day I want to be on your radio and I love doing Christmas day breakfast. You present one of the biggest shows on Radio City, how does that make you feel: I never think of it like that to be honest , I just look upon it as a job that I strived for years to get, I finally got my dream job and I love playin great songs , giving everyone the chance to win some great prizes whilst hopefully putting a smile on your face.
Tell us about a day in your life: Very, very stereotypical and routined!! Up 7am , in work by 7.45 am on the show from 10am – 2pm , out of work by 3 pm , in the gym by 4 pm out the gym and home by 6pm , then it’s either stay in because it’s a school night or get ready for a social occasion or personal appearance. My days have to be routined otherwise nothing get’s done.
What's the best thing about spending Christmas in Liverpool: Family, friends and fun ... lot’s of that of course.
Do you consider yourself a celebrity? Not for one moment! I adore the fact that other people do, but really I’m just a guy who’s on a rollercoaster ride that has some great benefits and the best bit of all is that I want as many people in on the ride with me! Remember ... I eat steak ... We all eat steak!
What's your favourite thing about being a Radio City DJ? I think it’s the fact I get to work with some really talented people. For instance, for years I listened to Rossie on our sister station in Preston and on many others as well and to now be workin alongside him every morning is great, not to mention Team RV!
What films do you want to watch this Christmas: White Christmas & Sex and The City 2! Are you in for a quiet or wild party season this year: I’d love to say quiet but I just know a text from my old pal @ PKPR is seconds away and that means a night of naughtiness! Where would you recommend everyone to hang out: Do you know, I think now more than ever it’s not necessarily the place where you are, it’s the people you are with that make the party.
How much will you be spending on presents this year: I’m lucky in some ways as I don’t have another half to spend a few quid on, so it’s all about my family and friends.
What’s in store for you in the new year? It’s another new year and that will mean another new me , myself and the team @ RVPR strive to re-create the Rick Vaughn brand wagon at every given situation. 2011 is lookin good with my TV show Round @ Rick’s being picked up and if that was not enough I will also be heading back to the stage to appear in a hit west end show that is coming to Liverpool.

inally Christmas is nearly here! I love this time of the year. The dark nights with the fire on, all cosy with all the decorations up, the candles lit and a nice glass of wine with my pyjamas on! Oh I really do love it!!!
F
I took a trip to Liverpool One last week with my good friend Jenny and my two girls - Jasmine and Micha, and it was out of this world! It has been totally transformed into a winter wonderland. There was an ice ring that the girls loved, but I didn't even attempt it as we would have definitely been spending the night in Accident and Emergency at the Royal. My nerves were gone just watching the children, but they were great! There are a few different rides and stalls with Santa's Grotto a bit further on outside John Lewis, where we all had our photograph
taken. I also topped up my Christmas decoration collection in Bents Christmas shop. I had been meaning to go to their main store but had not had a chance so was over the moon when I came across this, every single item in there was spectacular. We had a lovely night, freezing cold but so festive! So anybody who has not had a chance to take the children to Liverpool One, I thoroughly recommend it! It has been all systems go with the agency this month, we have had so many photo-shoots and I am really enjoying it. Not one day is the same, we have been shooting mainly children and families in the studio and modelling portfolios at various locations. I have just done a shoot for Style Clinic for their winter collection and their pieces are
fabulous. From Anouska G gowns to funky Super Trash to the futuristic designs of Aqua Couture, there is something there for everybody this Christmas. From nights out with work outfits, to glamming it up to go out with the girls, to fabulous chunky knits for the day to warm coats to keep you through to the night. We did the shot it in Alma De Cuba. It has such a nice ambiance, and afterwards we stayed on for dinner. All I can say is that the crispy duck pancakes were fab!!!!!! It takes a lot to top Jumbo City in China Town but it really did and they have got a fantastic range of cocktails, i think I may have tried everyone they offer!!! Until next month have a very merry, glamorous Christmas and a happy new year!!!
There are some fantastic buys on the high street at the moment and the jacquard effect is all in. I've searched all the cheap and cheerful stores to find the best in these designs. Primark have a limited collection out and are great for Christmas outfits. Here is a few pieces of their Jacquard range and they are really reasonably priced. The Jacket is £21, the maxi dress is £29 and the shorts are £13. They would look fab with a pair of black over the knee socks or tights and a black polo neck jumper.

When I went to The Gallery in Old Swan to get my nails done this week, they asked if I wanted to try the new semipermanent eyelashes and I cannot believe it has taken me till now to get them done. I hate wearing mascara and you don't need to with these lashes. They are so natural and you can't even feel them. Everybody has commented on mine and I don't think I could live without them now! They are £55 to get them done for the first go, then £20 after that for a top up and they last for months. If you would like to book an appointment call 0151-220-2883
If, like me, you love candles then TK Maxx have got these beautifully scented range of candles and are great stocking fillers for Christmas presents. They are good value at £4.99 and they also have these gorgeous frames from £5.99. TK Maxx also have some really nice dresses in at the moment including this jacquard grey, purple and black dress for a bargain of a price £19.99 and this lovely metallic flock number for £29.99
Restaurant reviews
What a refreshing change it is to go to a restaurant and not have to worry about choosing a particular dish on the menu. When you enter Viva Brazil on Castle Street, Liverpool, you are embracing the authentic Brazilian style steakhouse with its simple concept: You can have a cocktail at the bar while you wait to be seated. Then head straight over to your table to experience the real taste of Brazil. ou don;t have to be concerned about which dish to have on the menu as you get to eat everything. Seriously.
prk collar with parmesan, brazilian pork sausages, chicken hearts in black pepper and oregano, chilli chicken and smoked gammon.
"More is more" is the concept at Viva Brazil. There's a huge buffet feast at the bar where you help yourself to as much as you can eat of the freshly prepared gourmet hot and cold salads, pasta dishes and vibrant treats such as garlic mashed potato, traditional Brazilian stew, cheesy dough balls, fried banana and much more!
There's no hurry to leave, the restaurant has a great atmosphere and you are encouraged to stay as long as you like. Just make sure you top up your cocktails!
Then back at the table a troop of passadors( carvers) move from table to table offering over 15 select cuts of freshly barbecued meats such as garlic cap of rump beef, sirloin, beef and pork ribs,
There's a lot to get through so pace yourself. The concept at Viva Brazil is that you eat a little at a time, when you want to be served the meats at your table flip the serving card over where you are sat, so the passadors know to come over to you. When you need a breather, flip the card over and they will bypass you.
Despite consuming more than I could ever thought possible, it would have been rude not to try the deserts. We shared the Brigadeirao which was a sumptuous chocolate mouse pudding with a sponge base. For me, a die hard carnivore and chocolate lover, I had died and gone to heaven.

Lennon statue, the waiter brought us the wine list, which we chose a bottle of Rose manara pinot grigio, which is great with fish, though It has clean, sweet taste that you also enjoy with meat dishes. We also had a selection of home made breads to nibble on with an olive oil dish, while we studied an extensive and varied menu.
estled in the heart of Liverpool One, with fantastic views of Chavasse Park and the Albert Dock is Liverpools latest Italian offering- Prego

Brightly lit and with a fantastic aroma as we walked up the steps to Liverpool One, we were greeted by some very happy diners, who unbeknown to them, I was keen to listen to there unbiased remarks, which were all superb compliments about the meal they had just had, You can't get a better testiment than that. Prego is a cool and contemporary Italian restaurant brought to the city by a top restaurateur from southern Italy. The interiors are chic and stylish with top quality materials used. The restaurant is under One Park West and is floor to ceiling glass fronted to entice you inside. The restaurant was bustling with activity to the sounds of Andre Boccelli, and we received big smiles from all the staff as they greeted us. I felt as if I had just stepped off the plane in Rome! Prego means welcome in Italian, and we were made to feel very welcome indeed. As we chatted about the new visible John
For starters I chose the spicy meatballs braised in tomato and basil pesto, set in bread while my wife opted for the the creamy garlic mushrooms. Both sauces were fresh and sublime. Pregos is the only restaurant in the city to use a Josper Grill oven, which I believe is best described as an indoor barbecue which enhances the natural flavours of the meat. We chatted in between courses to the knowledgeable, informative and thoroughly smashing owner Franco, who is very passionate about food and enjoys providing his diners with a truly memorable dining experience. His knowledge of the menu and the origins of the ingredients and his passion for both are quite clear and we felt completely at ease in his charming company.
Franco has been fortunate to have the majority of chefs across merseyside come under his guidance at one time or another as he also has another very successful Prego restaurant in Sefton just by Aintree racecourse. For our main meal, my wife had the Polloai Funghi which is chicken breast in a creamy mushroom sauce and I went with Franco's recommendation of one the specials. It was Medallions of Angus beef with again a mushroom based sauce ( you can gather the sauces made quite an impression) And both came with a mixture of green beans, vegetables and potato wedges. I highly recommend you give Prego a try whether it is for lunch whilst shopping or for an evening out with friends or loved ones. Before we knew it we were pleasantly full and a thoroughly enjoyable evening and a terrific and undeniably tasty meal was had by us both.

ry a i D s s Fitne of the editor with her personal trainer
Kane Warren is the ultimate personal trainer. Working alongside Lewis Bailey at Elite Fitness in Knight Street, Liverpool, he has given me a nutrition sheet, an exercise plan and is now making a scoring a system between now and Christmas with all his clients and putting the scores on the wall in the wall in an attempt to publicly humiliate us now. We get points for the amount of time we train not just at the studio but in our own time too. I have been put on a 15 minute a day workout at home, which in theory I can manage. But it's just not the same as being pushed and motivated by Kane. Ten press ups at home and I give up. but at Elite Fitness I can do 48 no problem (with a little bit of a rest between each set of 12- what did you really think I did it in one go?) Walking round the shops Kane texts me to ensure I am exercising at home. The guy knows how to make you feel guilty! So with the final push for Christmas to tone up, I have been training hard. Even the cold weather hasn't deterred me. The three week break left me sluggish and probably half a stone heavier, but two weeks back into training and I can't wait to leap onto the exercise bike for a warm up. I must be crazy. I hate lunges and can't walk the next day. But I had the most exhilerating boxing session the other day which had my endomorphins skipping round my body and I was smiling for days couldn't move my shoulders, mind.
It's weird though, I just can't seem to shift the weight, I feel healthy and energized, my skin is glowing and I have really cut down on the caffeine drinks as well as my sweet habit. (OK so don't mention the apple crumble and custard for dinner tonight- but it was a one off treat) I am currently helping one of my daughter's with her "Healthy Body" school project. She is writing about diet and exercise and I feel proud that I am setting a good example to her and the rest of my family, that exercise is good for your body. This Christmas I won't be stuffing my face, yes really, I will pace myself. Ha ha, only kidding. What's the point in spending 12 months working out to reshape and tone my body to then pour unlimited lard and cholesterol down my gut. It's true, I have been brainwashed, For all my whinging and complaining throughout the year, I am converted, I am a fitness freak, throw a weight at me and I'll give you 20 squats and press ups without raising an eyebrow. Twelve press ups without without breaking into a sweat (last year I couldn't manage one) I walk past the carb section in supermarkets now. It's these small steps that will make me live longer. I am happy and healthy and have Lewis and Kane to thank.
