MONTH STYLE LY M AND RE AGAZINE ACH O U T TO OUR LOY READER AL S

Spring has finally sprung. Hooray! I am finally emerging from hibernation to seek out the best parties in the region. First up is the “Sparkle in the City” cocktail and canapé party on Thursday 10 March. We have teamed up with All Bar One in Derby Square to bring you the most glamorous launch party of the season. That is swiftly followed by the debut Wirral Fashion Festival at Thornton Hall & Spa on Friday 25 March. Sponsored by Porsche and Fake Bake, this is way more than a fashion show. We have live entertainment, a Take That tribute band, accessory stalls and much more, including catwalk shows from leading brands such as John Lewis, and New Look, as well as featuring hot designers such as Caroline Oates. It’s not too late to book your tickets at www.lifestylemonthly.co.uk We have conjured up a feast for you this month. I went along to a private acoustic set by the delicious McFly, we didn’t get much time to chat due to their demanding schedule but they are lovely, talented, guys. Read the feature inside. Also this month we chat to the internationally renowned horse whisperer, Monty Roberts, who visited Aintree recently. Welcoming our international model scout and columnist, Dan, we also have our regulars; life coach Darren Lawrenson, make up artist Jennie Freedland and jewellery maker Roxie o Del Ablett. Talking of which, it’s Mother’s Day at the end of the month so don’t forget to spoil your special mums. Also put your clocks forward one hour on the 28th – I can’t wait. Roll on sunshine, longer days and time to buy myself a new spring wardrobe! Stay smiling,

Amanda Moss

McFLY

ARE COMING TO THE ECHO ARENA THIS MONTH!!!!

SUPERSTAR BOY BAND, MCFLY, FLEW INTO RADIO CITY 96.7 LAST MONTH FOR AN INTIMATE GIG IN THE LIVE LOUNGE WITH A SELECTION OF VIP GUESTS. The hearthrob band, consists of Tom Fletcher (lead vocals and guitar), Danny Jones (lead vocals and guitar), Dougie Poynter (backing vocals and bass guitar) and Harry Judd (drums). Of course Lifestyle Monthly was invited along to chat to the most sought after boy band in Britain ahead of their Above the Noise Tour for a five minute chat. Tom and Danny sang a few of their favourite tracks including Shine the Light, their classic, All About You and their new single, That’s The Truth, which is released on March 6th as part of their new album.

So you’ve been away for a while making the new album, in that time we’ve seen bands such as JLS and The Wanted emerge, do you feel any pressure to change your style of music or anything ? Tom: No not at all, we took two years out to make the new album, we didn’t think about anyone or anything else, we were just working on our music. What can people expect from your tour? Danny: McFly Ooh, we’ve not really thought about it yet, we’ll just do the best we can. Dougie: Yeah, just us doing out thing. We love going on tour and seeing all our fans. Danny: It’s so long since we did arenas, I can’t remember what we did last time… but we will definitely put on the best show possible. Tom: Every show we ever do we always try and do something new. We have a few dates in Europe and then we have a big chunk of time to come and rehearse for the arena tours and so we’ll decide exactly what we’re doing then.

Lifestyle Editor, Amanda Moss with the boys when they visited Radio City 96.7

Is it more scary doing an intimate gig like this (25 people) rather than performing to a vast crowd where you only see the first few rows? Danny: Yes this is far more intimidating as you guys could see every mistake we made. But when we do big arenas it’s really exciting and we can’t wait to get out on stage and feel the atmosphere. The worse bit is the last few minutes before you go on stage and you are waiting for the curtain to go up. That’s the worst. If you were a girl what fashion would suit you best Harry: Ooh a kitten heel I think. Tom: Skinny jeggings - look I’m wearing them now! Dougie: Oh definitely high heels. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever given you? Danny: We love everything our fans give us. However I think there was this one time we got a very strange cake. I’ll say no more.

Restaurant reviews

51-53 Whitechapel Liverpool L1 6DT

0151 235 041 www.sofritol1.co.uk

The latest addition to Liverpool One's impressive line up of restaurants is Sofrito offering mediterranean cuisine. My friend and I went for lunch on a Thursday and the restaurant was busy and had a nice atmosphere, despite the 80s soundtrack tinkering in the background. The decor is very pleasant, very clean and easy on the eye, warm wooden tables and chairs and cool pink and green walls, reflecting the colours of a warm sunset over the mediterranean landscape. The staff are very friendly and attentive, my little girl of 21 months accompanied us and was immediately offered a high chair and a juice before we even sat down, That was impressive. There is an A la carte menu and a lunchtime special offering two courses for ÂŁ10 on a Tuesday. Everything on offer looked appetizing which made it difficult to choose. For starters we shared a Greek board of tzarziki, humous, taramasalata, olives, grilled halloumi, salad and pitta bread. It was a sharing platter but to be honest we were both so hungry we were fighting over it! For mains my friend had the leek, wild mushroom and asparagus risotto while I opted for the pollo alla creme, pan fried strips of chicken breast in a white wine and cream sauce with wild and basmatti rice. It was so delicious that my daughter decided to eat half of it for me, despite having her own generous portion of fresh chicken breast and crunchy

fries to herself (from the excellent children's menu) The food tasted fresh and was adequately seasoned. The presentation was lovely, and I did admire the lovely crockery, in particular the huge, sparkling white bowls in which our meals were served in. Despite my daughter spilling a drink and using up far too many serviettes, the meal was easy and very enjoyable. My friend and I were both too full for desert, thanks to the generous portions, but we could have had anything from traditional raspberry creme brulee, cheesecake of the day, homemade bread and butter pudding or chocolate brownie. The baby was brought some real vanilla ice cream which she loved and refused to share! Sofrito is perfect for a lunch treat with friends or business colleagues during the day, at night the ambiance is relaxing and warm, whether you are having a pre theatre meal or a relaxing night out. A satisfying meal is guaranteed by all.

From the Super Lamb Banana to the Wealthy Blue Banana You are all probably familiar with the Liverpool’s iconic Super Lamb Banana, but how many know about the European Blue Banana? Well, you should, because it may change the way you view our place in the world up here in the North West. The story begins a long time ago in a land far away – well, actually France in 1989, where geographer Roger Brunet was trying to make sense of the growing European economy. When he took a close look at where the wealth of Europe is actually created he found an almost continuous urbanized region of 110 million people stretching from Milan in Northern Italy, through Germany and the Low Countries, crossing over the North Sea into the Midlands

Our fashion-conscious team is always on hand to give advice on current trends and to assist you in finding whatever it is that your wardrobe may be lacking. and the North of England and ending in – Liverpool! The shape of this super-wealthy region was roughly banana shaped, somebody coloured it blue from the EU flag and, hey presto, you have the famous Blue Banana. Brunet’s message to the French Government was simple – stop focusing on Paris as the centre of the world, you’re not even on the economic map! Well, something similar tends to happen to us “provincials” in the North West, always assuming we have to play second fiddle to the might South East on the other side of the so called North-South divide. Instead we should be taking advantage of the Blue Banana super-region of which we are an integral part. After all, our mixed economy in the North West is much closer to this European backbone than it is to the financial services focus of London. So if you want to grow your local business into new territories, think of going East on easyJet from John Lennon, not South on Virgin Trains! Bon Voyage!

WANTED:VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE MOLEHILLS OUT OF MOUNTAINS

It’s hard to believe but almost a third of everything we stick in our bins is food – stuff which could either have been eaten or, in many cases, at least home composted. The stats get worse. A survey of homes across Merseyside and Halton shows that every week we create a veritable mountain of organic waste (2,000 tonnes worth to be exact) – much of it perfectly good food. It means that, out of the 11 kilos of waste we put in our bins every week, over 3 kilos (or the equivalent weight of three bags of sugar) is a combination of leftover meat, fruit and veg, other food or peelings, teabags and eggshells – food which could either have been eaten or, with the exception of fish and meat, composted. Getting us to change our habits is an uphill struggle – even with the simple message that people are throwing money away (research shows we bin a third of all the food we buy – costing the average household £600 a year) or the environmental issue about having to bury all that waste in landfill (at around a cost of almost £50 a tonne to the tax payer). Undaunted, the team in charge of transforming Merseyside’s track record are determined to turn this food waste mountain in to a molehill. Launched on Merseyside two years ago, the national Love Food, Hate Waste campaign has used just about all the weapons in the campaigner’s armoury to get the food waste message to the region’s householders and it’s been working. They’ve so far persuaded Merseysiders to reduce the food waste mountain by 32,000 tonnes - and they’ve got a further trick up their sleeves. From March waste officers in Merseyside and Halton will be counting on people power to get the campaign messages across.Working with Liverpool-based Faiths4Change, the campaign will deliver training workshops to Council recycling officers and community groups within each six districts across Merseyside and Halton. These “champions” will then spread the message to residents and communities across Merseyside and Halton, and will hopefully encourage a greater number of people to take practical steps to reduce the amount of food waste they generate at home. Carl Beer, the Director of Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority, said:“Over the past 20 or so months we’ve made good progress with the campaign. By training up local enthusiasts we’re hoping that the message will continue to be told and heard.” Whether it’s putting the recycling out or re-using plastic bags, most of us like to think we’re doing ‘our bit’ for the environment. But, say campaigners, if we’re ever going to nail the region’s waste problems, we’ve got to do just a little bit more.

Oh I don't know what is wrong with me, I just can't seem to get myself into gear this month. The weather has been so dreary and depressing it seems as if the cold has gone on too long and my body has had enough. I lack motivation and sleep, which doesn't help. Kane is very attentive, he can sense when I am not up to being thrown around and gives me gently lunges with dumb bells. At least I am keeping the body moving and exercising, he says. As I write this it is half term, it's difficult juggling the kids being off school and running the magazine AND finding the time to go

to the gym. Why can't I be like those TV celebrities who drop three dress sizes when they sneeze? I always gave the excuse that if I had a personal trainer I would be skinny but I am not. I am definitely slimmer and certainly fitter. I feel better in myself but am so annoyed with myself for not shedding that extra stone I wanted. Kane says I have to drink green tea (bleugh) and stop ordering my lattes. I know, I know. I am trying but come on, I need some treats in my life. But I am letting myself down. On a positive note Kane has taught me some brilliant stomach exercises which I have started to do every night. So there may be some light at the end of this and my tummy may start to shrink. I haven't had a flat stomach for 20 years, it would be amazing if I can achieve that. Next week is weigh in… somehow I don't think I am the biggest loser. The new season will launch me to new motivational heights. Come on, I can do this.
